Selling Libertarianism in the Marketplace of Ideas: Podcast
Brian Nichols interviews Nick Gillespie about persuasion, the history of Reason, and whether the future looks libertarian.
The libertarian podcaster Brian Nichols recently interviewed me for his show. Here's his intro:
A
nother week, another phenomenal interview. This week's guest should need no introduction, but dammit, I'm going to introduce him anyways, because he's just that awesome.
This week, I am joined by the former editor in chief and current editor at large over at Reason, Nick Gillespie! Nick served as the editor in chief Reason.com and Reason TV from 2008 through 2017 and was Reason magazine's editor in chief from 2000 to 2008.
Today, Nick joins The Brian Nichols Show to discuss his venture into libertarianism, the beginning of his professional career, and his tenure at Reason. Listen as we discuss the best means for libertarians to "bridge the gap" in regards to connecting the cultural aspects of libertarianism and the philosophy and political movement of libertarianism.
It's a fun, wide-ranging conversation that covers my origin story (reading Reason in high school, covering zoning board meetings as a cub reporter, going to grad school during the birth of the P.C. era of the late 1980s and early '90s, etc.), the need for persuasive outreach, and whether things are looking up for individual choice and autonomy.
