Baroness Thatcher will be honoured with a ceremonial funeral on the scale of those that marked the deaths of the Queen Mother and Princess Diana.

The former British prime minister, who died today at the age of 87, will receive a ceremonial funeral with military honours at St Paul's Cathedral, Downing Street announced.

The ceremony is likely to be the biggest farewell staged for a former British leader since that of Winston Churchill, who was honoured with a state funeral—usually reserved for monarchs—in 1965.

Some Tory MPs had called for a similar ceremony for Baroness Thatcher, but she specifically stated before her death that she did not want a state funeral.
