New Media Company Cites Retroactive Tax as It Flees California

Compares the state government to Hugo Chavez

Grumbling about California taxes and regulations is nothing new. But one San Francisco entrepreneur is going a step further by saying good riddance to the Golden State.

In an article posted on PandoDaily, Bleacher Reporter founder Bryan Goldberg said he was moving a new media startup to New York, largely in response to a retroactive tax applied to his 2012 income and the passage of Proposition 30.

"This is an asset seizure plain and simple," he wrote.

Goldberg said he didn't oppose paying higher taxes, and made a point of disavowing any identification with the Tea Party or Republican Party.
