Before setting his house on fire and laying a trap for the responding fireman, an ex-convict left a haunting type-written note where he made his intentions clear, officials said.

Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering read one line from the two- to three-page note officials believe was written by Williams Spengler: "I still have to get ready to see how much of the neighborhood I can burn down, and do what I like doing best—killing people."
