AOC's Eggs

Plus: Hamas disarmament, gay bathhouses, Canadian MAGA, and more...

AOC's 2028 aspirations? "This is a choice that I am making to feel more in control of my life," said 36-year-old Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D–N.Y.), announcing on Instagram that she was beginning the process of freezing her eggs. Today's highly educated, high-earning, big-city moms and potential moms—like Ocasio-Cortez—want to be in control of their fates. When we have children, though, we must inevitably surrender a bit.

The fact that Ocasio-Cortez was able to throw this news on Instagram and command a whole news cycle over the weekend points to her earned-media skill. And to the fact that she could possibly be gearing up for a 2028 run: She's choosing not to have kids at age 36, but rather to hold off for several years at minimum. This indicates to me that she might be throwing around the idea of running for president, if her party will give her its blessing.

The Reason Roundup Newsletter by Liz Wolfe Liz and Reason help you make sense of the day's news every morning.

This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.

But whether she's running for president or just hoping to hold onto her congressional seat, she's clearly trying to "normalize" (can we just abandon this stupid term?) being candid about reproductive decisions. "I want you all to see that. And because women can do anything, and I think it's badass that I'm going to be giving myself shots in the green room [as I] get my glam on," she said, noting she would be appearing on ABC shortly (thus the shots in the green room).

"A 2025 UCLA study found that between 2014 and 2021, there was a sharp increase [quadruple] in the number of planned elective egg-freezing cycles. In that period, women began freezing their eggs at younger ages, with the average age dropping from 36 years in 2014 to 34.9 in 2021," reports The Washington Post. "The study also landed on the surprising finding that only a small number of women—5.7 percent who froze their eggs between 2014 and 2016—returned to use their eggs in the next five to seven years."

God bless her. Having kids is a wonderful thing! For me, becoming a mother reinforced the idea that the state can never usurp the family. Maybe she'll come to the same understanding.

Netanyahu rejects Trump's plan: "The Israeli government has rejected a 15-point plan backed by the Trump administration aimed at disarming the Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday," reports The New York Times. "It appeared to be an unusually public break with President Trump, whose relationship with Mr. Netanyahu has had a dizzying and often unpredictable arc. The two leaders launched the war against Iran together in late February. But they have since clashed over how to end it, as well as over the future of Israel's military campaigns in Gaza and Lebanon."

"The U.S.-backed proposal envisions a phased process in which Hamas would hand over its weapons in stages to a new Palestinian administration in Gaza," adds the Times. "In exchange, Israel would gradually withdraw from the more than half of Gaza that it has controlled since the cease-fire last October." For Netanyahu, this proposal doesn't go far enough in terms of what it expects from Hamas: The terrorist group must be fully disarmed before Israel will draw down its troops.

Scenes from New York: "Should N.Y. Bathhouses Be Allowed to Offer Space for Sex?" reads a New York Times headline. "Two state lawmakers have proposed repealing a health code that prohibits establishments like bathhouses from allowing sexual activity."

  • "Nestled within a sleepy community campground and roadside cafe, hundreds of Canadians are gathered to imagine a new country of their own. It's July 1, and they're hosting a family-friendly event that looks like a typical Canada Day celebration. Live music, a farmers' market, hamburgers on the grill. Except there isn't a Maple Leaf in sight," reports Politico. "Instead, people have wrapped themselves in Alberta's flag, wave 'we're done' banners and wear 'Trump 2024' and MAGA—Make Alberta Great Again—ball caps. This is an 'Albertans' Day' gathering at the Whistle Stop Cafe, which gained notoriety for bucking pandemic-era rules and which former Alberta premier Jason Kenney calls 'ground zero' for the province's fast-growing separatist movement."
  • "Rep. Max Miller, the embattled Ohio Republican who faces accusations of domestic violence from his ex-wife, appears almost certain to remain on the ballot in November after a key deadline in the process to replace him passed Saturday," reports The Washington Post. "Miller, who denies any wrongdoing, has resisted growing calls to drop his bid for a third term and resign from Congress."
  • "The U.S. economy shed jobs in July, yet the unemployment rate improved—an unusual pairing that points to a worrying story unfolding behind the numbers for some economists," reports The Washington Post. "That's because even as the U.S. economy lost jobs, American workers left the labor market faster."

Look, I know that modern pant suit womyn need to declare that among all the everything things they can do they can defy biology and physics, and even time itself. But can they?

So some full-of-herself 30 year old freezes some eggs, and dedicates all her time to be all she can be. Then a decade or two later her personal development plan finally elevates motherhood into the priority category, and off she goes to the AI (Artificial Insemination) clinic to get knocked-up the Kool Kids way. Finally this proudly fulfilled 40-something (50-something) gives birth.

If not a true Master of the Universe with abundant full time household staff, she now can proudly deal with all the challenges of new parenting: sleepless nights, physical and emotional exhaustion, adaptation of personal priorities to infant demands, etc., all while embracing middle age--and maybe even menopause.

Then by the time Junior is ready for college, mom is ready for retirement. Besides the potential fun of sharing a dorm room, this could make for some strange family dynamics.

One more thing, ladies: this deferred reproductive plan guarantees that you will never meet your grandkids.

Before Evans' death, Rankin was convicted in connection with a Jan. 4 confrontation with Amy Bunnell at Jungle Jim’s International Market in Fairfield.

Bunnell’s husband, Lance Bunnell, now says he repeatedly pushed police and prosecutors to pursue felony charges against Rankin and warned authorities about concerns for Evans' safety.

Trio of women - two of them transgender - tortured boy, 7, to death - but remembered to take their pet for its vaccines as victim lay at death's door, prosecutors say

Hamilton County court records seen by the Daily Mail indicate that both Keaney and Rankin are biological males. Evans is the boy's biological mother.

According to WLWT, prosecutors said in court that there was evidence to show that William was being abused for over two months by the trio.

After police entered the property, prosecutors said they found him in a closet where he had been bound and duct-taped.

DSA Co-Chair Megan Romer describes her political journey to the DSA:

She was first a "Jon Stewart liberal."

"Got most of my news from Jon Stewart. That was my primary news source."

After Hillary lost, she was "horrified and baffled."

She then got invited by a folk singer to a DSA meeting.

And now speaks in bumper sticker slogans for the DSA and can't answer basic questions about the organization's positions and platform.

All of this explains so much.

    Liberal judges amirite?

    https://www.foxnews.com/us/madison-brooks-judge-faces-heat-docs-reveal-son-sexual-predator-suspect-says-shes-our-side

The judge overseeing the cases against the men accused of gang-raping LSU student Madison Brooks before her death has a son of her own who is a convicted sexual predator, records show.
    ...
Court records reviewed by Fox News Digital show that the judge's son, 46-year-old Nelson Taylor, was convicted of several counts of forcible rape in 1997. Taylor is currently trying to get those convictions overturned, creating a debacle between the district attorney's office and the 19th Judicial District Court, as his mother is a sitting judge.
    ...
Prosecutors pointed to Ray's previous exposure to evidence about Brooks' alleged sexual history, which is being excluded from the trial, and previous rulings that went against them. Those included her order for the state to turn over data from Brooks' cellphone, her initial ruling that evidence of Brooks' activities in the 72 hours before the alleged rape would be admissible, and her decision ordering the state to produce items from Carver's phone.

    Scenes from NYC:

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/democrats-let-down-majority-black-ny-city-as-police-bigwig-accused-of-joining-son-in-gang-drive-by-critics/ar-AA29IZ7G

Critics blasted Democrats for “embarrassing” a majority-black Westchester County city after a police bigwig was arrested for joining her gangbanger son on a drive-by shooting in the Bronx.

The arrest is the latest stain on the troubled city, which has seen two sitting mayors arrested while in office and multiple police department controversies.

The mayors — Ernie Davis and Richard Thomas — left office after being charged with federal tax evasion and state grand larceny charges.

The calls for probes come after Lackard was busted by the NYPD for allegedly driving the getaway car for her son and reputed “Slutty Gang” member Chase Lackard, 20, as he tried to gun down a rival or rivals outside a Bronx courthouse earlier this summer.

The now fired deputy commissioner has been charged with attempted murder for the June 29 shooting.

Her husband, James Lackard, an ex-convict who spent nearly a decade behind bars for dealing heroin, was also arrested a few days later.

The family orchestrated the shooting, with the doting mom even texting the son instructions, according to a shocking indictment.

I thought the food trucks were the only good thing about them?

    https://www.foodtruckoperator.com/news/soriano-produce-food-truck-owner-arrested-for-alleged-snap-benefit-fraud/

Soriano Produce, a food truck based in Santa Anna, California, is under investigation due to alleged SNAP and EBT benefits fraud. The owner, Esmeralda Sorinao, was recently arrested for allegedly engaging in this fraudulent activity, according to a report by the New York Post.

Investigators allegedly discovered that the food truck was processing larger numbers of SNAP transactions, including incidents where undercover officers were able to trade $100 in SNAP for $50 in cash. It had a store dollar volume of $640,924.

Compared to large grocery stores within a five-mile radius during this same period, Soriano Produce was also the highest redeeming store of SNAP benefits, despite having more than 9,700 fewer transactions than the closest store. Further, Soriano Produce had the highest average transaction amount.

    Fraud built into the programs?

Kirk Perry, 62, a former United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) program director, was sentenced today to 24 months in prison in connection with a kickback scheme in which he and his nephew, Jamarea Grant, 32, of Cleveland, Ohio, conspired to bill the government nearly $400,000 for work that Grant did not actually perform, announced U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

According to court documents, Perry was a senior director within the USDA’s Office of the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights and used his position to secure employment for Grant as an Equal Opportunity Assistant. They billed the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights and Grant received about $399,319 from the government for work that was not performed.

Perry worked the same scheme with his longtime partner with whom he resides; a cousin by marriage; and a personal acquaintance who he previously coached in basketball. None of those individuals had any background, education, or experience in EEO related matters.

I want you all to see that. And because women can do anything, and I think it's badass that I'm going to be giving myself shots in the green room [as I] get my glam on," she said, noting she would be appearing on ABC shortly (thus the shots in the green room).

    When underwritten by technology, yes.
