Brickbat: Some Horseplay
Melvin McClain, a teacher at Conyers Middle School in Georgia, faces one count of simple battery and three counts of cruelty to children after allegedly beating a 13-year-old student more than 20 times in the head and stomach. School surveillance video shows McClain grabbing the boy by the neck, clearing other students from the classroom, and carrying out the attack. A former "Teacher of the Year," McClain described the actions as "horseplay."

Maybe the boy had it coming?
He could be a Reason intern.

Former Officer of the Year described punching the cuffed suspect as fearing for his life.
I hope they don't let this man near horses.

There are plenty of 13-year-olds who could benefit from a beatdown. Does he have a GoFundMe?
There is, of course, no discussion about what the little monster did first.
A lot of stuff I saw my teachers do in the 1970s could be described as this. And we were better off for most of it. Hard to tell what is true here.
I don't know where Chuck Oliver went to school or learned to fight... or learn journalism, but where I grew up, one count for one incident in one classroom or ring counts as one beating, regardless of the number of blows.
If it went 20 rounds with one minute breaks in between, I could kinda understand "beating... more than 20 times" euphemistically. One count of battery for *striking* someone 20+ times seems more like what someone who isn't suffering from TBI would say.
You know who else likened his actions to horseplay? Jerry Sandusky. Conclusive proof that any time an adult interacts with a minor and refers to horseplay, the person is full of horse excrement.
You should post a picture of the teacher. Just so we all know who to avoid in case we run into him. 😉 Or the principal, Fannetta Gooden.
He cleared the classroom... but did it where there was a camera?
