RFK Jr. Breaks His Promises About the CDC on Vaccines and Autism
The secretary of Health and Human Services lied to Sen. Bill Cassidy during his confirmation hearings.
Before voting to confirm Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as the secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), Sen. Bill Cassidy (R–La.) stated on the floor of the Senate that RFK Jr. had promised him that "he would work within the current vaccine approval and safety monitoring systems, and not establish parallel systems. If confirmed, he will maintain the Centers for Disease Control [CDC] and Prevention's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices without changes. CDC will not remove statements on their website pointing out that vaccines do not cause autism."
Every one of the main promises made to Cassidy has been broken. Eschewing the usual system of consultations with outside independent vaccine experts, RFK Jr. announced on X in May that "as of today the COVID vaccine for healthy children and healthy pregnant women has been removed from the CDC recommended immunization schedule." This announcement makes it harder for expectant mothers to access the vaccines because some insurance companies are less likely to pay for them.
In their lawsuit in response to RFK Jr.'s announcement, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Physicians, and the American Public Health Association argued that the secretary's goal is "to undermine trust in vaccines and reduce the rate of vaccinations in this country."
What about his promise to maintain the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices without changes? Nope. RFK Jr. fired all of the vaccine experts and loaded up the committee with anti-vaccination appointees.
Finally, there is RFK Jr.'s promise that the CDC will not remove statements on its website pointing out that vaccines do not cause autism. As of Wednesday, the CDC website states:
- The claim "vaccines do not cause autism" is not an evidence-based claim because studies have not ruled out the possibility that infant vaccines cause autism.
- Studies supporting a link have been ignored by health authorities.
- HHS has launched a comprehensive assessment of the causes of autism, including investigations on plausible biologic mechanisms and potential causal links.
After making these statements at the top of the webpage, the CDC website maintains a headline with an asterisk.

Why the asterisk? A note at the bottom of the page explains:
The header "Vaccines do not cause autism" has not been removed due to an agreement with the chair of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee that it would remain on the CDC website.
These changes are not merely dishonest; they are dangerous. All three of the new claims at the top of the CDC website are specious.
First, evidence accumulated over numerous studies, including studies with millions of children, has found no link between vaccinations and autism.
Second, in support of this claim that studies suggesting a link are ignored, the CDC gestures at reviews by the HHS's own Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Scrounging through them for something that might suggest harm, RFK Jr.'s team found a minor note in a 2021 AHRQ report that observed the current evidence for childhood Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination is "insufficient to support or reject a causal relationship between those vaccines and autism."
The report found that with respect to vaccines recommended for children and adolescents, "we found either no new evidence of increased risk for key adverse events with varied [strength of evidence] or insufficient evidence." The critical question is: "insufficient evidence" for what? The report explains: "There remains insufficient evidence to draw conclusions about some rare potential adverse events [emphasis added]." Certainly, RFK Jr.'s alleged "autism epidemic" caused by vaccines would not count among "rare potential adverse events."
It is worth noting that the cited 2021 AHRQ report is peppered throughout with findings that vaccines do not cause autism. The new CDC site also fails to mention that the report observed that prenatal Tdap vaccination is not associated with a higher risk of autism in children.
Meanwhile, as a result of falling Tdap vaccination rates, the number of American children infected with whooping cough (pertussis) is surging.
What about the third claim that HHS has launched a "comprehensive assessment of the causes of autism"? In April, RFK Jr. appointed anti-vaccination stalwart David Geier to head up that assessment. As I noted at the time, "Geier will doubtlessly and transparently get the answers that our new secretary of Health and Human Services thinks he already knows." In September, RFK Jr. announced the dubious finding that taking the painkiller Tylenol during pregnancy was associated with a higher risk of autism in children.
"We are appalled to find that the content on the CDC webpage 'Autism and Vaccines' has been changed and distorted," declares the Autism Science Foundation in a statement, "and is now filled with anti-vaccine rhetoric and outright lies about vaccines and autism."
That's correct. This isn't what the Senate—or the American people—were promised.

We are appalled to find that the content on the CDC webpage..
Nobody else looks at it anyway.
All they did is admit the truth on the website that most of the claims that have existed for decades were never found through actual deep studies, admitting to papers that show links.
Bailey seems to against scientific inquiry.
Bailey's against whatever he's paid to be against.
Ronald Bailey is science correspondent at Reason.
Alleges fact not in evidence.
He used to be great, even with Trump 1.0 pre-COVID. COVID broke him. Just like Trumpies who cannot admit that Trump has ever made even a single mistake, Bailey cannot bring himself to admit that the entire government medical apparatus was broken and ever made any mistakes.
Get over it, Ron. Stop trying to pretend all was truth and honor with the CDC and NIH mafia.
So then shit is OK with you if high-powered appointees LIE in odor to get POWER, and then break the promises that they made, to get their lies-based powers? Or is shit OK... If you AGREE with the lies?
No, dipshit. The problem is that Bailey has spent five years destroying his credibility. Go ahead and call my comment ad hominem, if you want, but at least admit you are doing the same more generically with all politicians, and don't go strawman on me. I did not say lying politicians are OK. I said lying reporters are not OK.
Also note that there is NO conclusive evidence that there is NO such thing ass an unicorn! No one has looked at EVERY SINGLE POSSIBLE HIDING PLACE for an unicorn, in the entire universe, and so, there might be one!
Then ALSO note that unicorns MIGHT be deadly, and so, if not eliminated on the spot, when spotted, they COULD wipe out Earth-life ass we know shit! (PROVE to me otherwise!!!) So then everyone will now be required to carry anti-unicorn Magic Weapons! Red MAHA hate-hats, which Make AmeriKKKa Hate Again, are THE go-to Magic Weapons of choice!
Stupid.
Yes, Our Dear Orange-ish Health God ***IS*** pretty damned stupid! Cumpetent ONLY at fucking up things that WERE working pretty well!

Hey Peanuts, what do you think about the love fest between Donnie and Zippy Mamdani yesterday? Donnie was effusive in his praise for the Democratic Socialist.
And poor Butch body MTG is resigning her seat because Donnie is mean to her.
Both parties suck, as always.

People who are evil attack others instead of facing their own failures. Peck demonstrates the havoc these “people of the lie” work in the lives of those around them.
There are already early signs that this year's flu vaccines aren't properly targeted at the most recent versions of flu going around. This is at least partially because Our Dear Orange-ish Health God fired the competent and data-driven experts, of dry and boring data-gathering, and replaced them with political flunkies, who believe the correct lies. Sick and dead people will be the result!
Sick and dead people ARE often the result of elevating the political hacks over the technical experts! That's what got Chernobyl for the USSR... Political hacks, not subject-matter experts, making decisions. USA is now follow in the shit-steps of the USSR! No good will cum of this shit!
Flu vaccines are like socialism. The right people just haven't implemented "real" socialism yet.

Key points
The claim "vaccines do not cause autism" is not an evidence-based claim because studies have not ruled out the possibility that infant vaccines cause autism.
Studies supporting a link have been ignored by health authorities.
HHS has launched a comprehensive assessment of the causes of autism, including investigations on plausible biologic mechanisms and potential causal links.
Ron: These changes are not merely dishonest; they are dangerous. All three of the new claims at the top of the CDC website are specious.
First, evidence accumulated over numerous studies, including studies with millions of children, has found no link between vaccinations and autism.
Ron you disingenuous shill.
You know full well that the specious claim comes from yourself as virtually all the "numerous studies" you cite were done by or sponsored by the vaccine manufacturers, who are not keen for the lawsuits that would come if the targeted additive thimerosal was found to be a problem. They were not done by independent researchers not receiving funding from the vaccine manufacturers.
For those who have relied on brown-envelope taking hacks like Ron for their information and somehow think this is about vaccines like Jenner's cowpox one, it's not.
It's primarily about the additive thimerosal which has been used as a vaccine preservative to kill bacteria and fungi in a vaccine since 1930. Thimerosal is approximately 50% mercury by weight in the form of ethylmercury mixed with thiosalicylate.
Ethylmercury is an organomercurial that pharmaceutical companies swear have none of the problems present in methylmercury, a closely related substance that has been the focus of considerable study. Methylmercury is the type of mercury found in certain kinds of fish. At high exposure levels methylmercury can be toxic to people. In the United States, federal guidelines keep as much methylmercury as possible out of the environment and food, but over a lifetime, everyone is exposed to some methylmercury.
Whose studies say that this particular form of mercury is totally safe? The pharmaceutical companies who have been using thimerosal as a preservative for almost 90 years.
And all assessments on thimerosal done by groups like the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) and the American Academy of Pediatrics cited those studies as their primary sources in their assessments.
Now maybe thimerosal contains the one form of mercury that only kills bacteria and fungi, and nothing else. And maybe it is completely safe, with no ill effects established other than minor local reactions every time at the site of injection. But until we get studies done that are not beholding to the companies who would be liable if it were dangerous, we should not claim that concerns over it are entirely specious.
That's dishonest and disingenuous.
Now, back in 1998, the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER) at the FDA initiated a formal risk assessment of thiomersal in vaccines. After determining the levels of ethylmercury exposure from the currently recommended vaccine schedule, the CBER found these amounts exceeded new standards for methylmercury exposure established by the EPA. On July 7, 1999, both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the US Public Health Service issued a statement calling for the removal of thiomersal-containing vaccines "as expeditiously as possible."
By March 2001, thiomersal-free versions of all the recommended childhood vaccines for children under the age of 6 were begun to be made available.
So that's fine, right? But additives aren't the only reason some people would like more caution with public statements. There are other reasons too.
For example:
• Bad eczema or history of eczema → Can’t get the live smallpox or the mpox vaccine – the vaccine can spread all over the skin and become dangerous.
• Very weak immune system (cancer treatment, HIV with low CD4, organ transplant, high-dose steroids, etc.) → Can’t get any live vaccines (MMR, chickenpox, rotavirus, nasal flu spray, old shingles shot, yellow fever) – your body might not be able to fight even the weakened vaccine virus.
• Currently pregnant → No live vaccines – small risk to the baby.
• Ever had a life-threatening allergic reaction to a vaccine or something in it (gelatin, neomycin, latex, etc.) → Can’t get that same vaccine again.
• History of intussusception (part of the bowel telescoping into itself) → No rotavirus vaccine – it can trigger it again.
• Guillain–Barré syndrome right after a previous shot → Usually avoid that same vaccine again (mostly flu or tetanus shots).
• Just got a blood transfusion or IVIG (intravenous antibodies) → Have to wait 3–11 months before MMR or chickenpox vaccines
• Very low platelets (or a condition that causes low platelets) → Doctor might skip or delay MMR – tiny chance it could make platelets drop more.
• Someone in the house has a severely weak immune system → Avoid oral polio and sometimes rotavirus drops – the vaccinated person can shed the virus and infect the vulnerable person.
• Uncontrolled seizures or certain worsening brain conditions → Used to delay whooping cough (pertussis) vaccines until the condition is stable.
• Severe brain inflammation after a previous whooping cough shot → No more doses of vaccines that contain whooping cough.
Then there are the vaccines actually causing the problems.
In most of the world, the only children who still get paralyzed by polio today are not catching the original wild virus; they are being infected by a mutated version of the live oral polio vaccine itself. When vaccination rates drop in a community, the weakened virus in the drops can change as it passes from child to child, eventually turning back into a form that causes paralysis just like the natural disease.
These “circulating vaccine-derived polioviruses” now cause several hundred cases every year and trigger outbreaks in more than 20 countries, far more paralysis than the remaining pockets of true wild polio in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
That is why richer countries long ago switched to the injectable killed vaccine, and the global polio program is now trying to retire OPV completely once wild polio is finally gone.
Other live vaccines have also sparked small outbreaks, though none come close to the scale of vaccine-derived polio.
The old live smallpox vaccinia occasionally spread from a freshly vaccinated person to close contacts, especially those with eczema, causing skin infections or, very rarely, serious illness; this is one reason routine smallpox vaccination was stopped.
Chickenpox vaccine virus has been transmitted from vaccinated children with vaccine-related rashes to pregnant mother or an immunocompromised sibling.
Oral rotavirus vaccines have caused cases of rotavirus gastroenteritis in severely immunodeficient infants. The live nasal flu spray almost never spreads, but can occasionally. These events usually happen only when the vaccine is given to (or spreads to) someone with a very weak immune system.
So again, Ron, concerns over vaccines are not specious.
Now, I believe in (protein-based) vaccinations. I get all of mine and never have an adverse reaction. I recommend you get the ones you can. Especially tetanus (and rabies if the situation demands).
But I would never be so arrogant as to assert that they are all problem free, that everyone's reactions are the same and people should not be aware of the risks and have concerns.
