Israeli strike in Qatar: For a long time, striking Hamas officials in Qatar has been regarded as off-limits by the Israelis; Qatar is a strong U.S. ally. Though it vowed to avenge the deaths of those Israelis killed in the October 7 terrorist attack, the Israeli military was willing to accept limits for the sake of its relationship with the U.S., the possibility that Hamas might accept a ceasefire deal, and regional stability.

But "by noon Tuesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had given the green light for an audacious attack on Qatari soil, targeting a residence used by Hamas figures in the dusty northern suburbs of Doha," reported The Wall Street Journal. "More than 10 Israeli jet fighters fired long-range munitions at the house, causing explosions heard across the capital. It was an escalation of Israel's tactics against the U.S.-designated terrorist group, targeting its leaders in a sovereign country that mediates Gaza peace talks and hosts the most important U.S. air base in the region."

The Reason Roundup Newsletter by Liz Wolfe Liz and Reason help you make sense of the day's news every morning.

"The days are over that terrorist leaders will have immunity anywhere," Netanyahu said yesterday.

"This morning, the Trump Administration was notified by the United States Military that Israel was attacking Hamas which, very unfortunately, was located in a section of Doha, the Capital of Qatar. This was a decision made by Prime Minister Netanyahu, it was not a decision made by me. Unilaterally bombing inside Qatar, a Sovereign Nation and close Ally of the United States, that is working very hard and bravely taking risks with us to broker Peace, does not advance Israel or America's goals. However, eliminating Hamas, who have profited off the misery of those living in Gaza, is a worthy goal," wrote President Donald Trump on Truth Social. "I immediately directed Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to inform the Qataris of the impending attack, which he did, however, unfortunately, too late to stop the attack. I view Qatar as a strong Ally and friend of the U.S., and feel very badly about the location of the attack. I want ALL of the Hostages, and bodies of the dead, released, and this War to END, NOW! I also spoke to Prime Minister Netanyahu after the attack. The Prime Minister told me that he wants to make Peace. I believe this unfortunate incident could serve as an opportunity for PEACE." (Remember: The Qataris have been working hard to curry favor with Trump.)

"I'm not thrilled about it," Trump told reporters last night. "I was very unhappy about it. Very unhappy about every aspect."

This comes on the heels of Israel ordering a total evacuation of Gaza City, signaling that it will be launching a ground invasion with an additional 60,000 reservists added to the Israel Defense Forces.

Cook's removal blocked: U.S. District Judge Jia Cobb has temporarily blocked President Trump's removal of Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, allowing Cook to return to work and possibly participate in the Fed's widely anticipated meeting next week that's likely to result in a rate cut. "The judge concluded that the alleged mortgage misconduct likely didn't amount to 'cause' to fire her under the Federal Reserve Act, and that the way in which she was dismissed likely violated her due process rights under the Constitution," per Bloomberg.

"The best reading of the 'for cause' provision is that the bases for removal of a member of the Board of Governors are limited to grounds concerning a Governor's behavior in office and whether they have been faithfully and effectively executing their statutory duties," wrote Cobb.

Scenes from New York: "The latest New York Times/Siena College poll shows that while Mamdani holds a clear edge in a crowded New York City mayoral field, leading Cuomo 46 percent to 24 percent in a four-way race, the numbers tighten dramatically in a two-way matchup, where Mamdani's lead over Cuomo shrinks to 48 percent to 44 percent among likely voters—raising doubts about his staying power in a head-to-head contest," reports Newsweek. "Among registered voters, Cuomo leads Mamdani in a two-way race, with 46 percent to his opponent's 45 percent."

In other words, Cuomo needs both Curtis Sliwa and Eric Adams to drop out in order to have any chance of beating Mamdani. I'm of course still praying for a wild Sliwa upset, and for Cuomo to be banished to some sort of far-away island.

QUICK HITS

  • Sen. Josh Hawley (R–Mo.) wants to ban driverless cars, saying they're "not safe" and "would be terrible, terrible for working people." The safety thing isn't really true—rather, it's not like cars manned by fallible human drivers are currently "safe" by any stretch of the imagination—but is he saying that we should go without new, better technology to protect the jobs of taxi drivers and long-haul truck drivers?
  • "The economy added 911,000 fewer jobs than previously estimated in the 12 months ending in March, according to Labor Department data released Tuesday, wiping out about half the employment growth that had been reported during that span," reports Politico. A rate cut looks more and more likely for next week. For what it's worth, this revision is the largest ever recorded.
  • Cops join the PR game, using "tax revenue from legal marijuana sales and property seizures to fund their ice cream operations," per Connecticut Public Radio.
  • "NATO-member warplanes shot down several Russian drones over Poland, the first time the alliance has engaged Russian drones over a member's territory after what officials contend was a test of its defenses by Moscow," reports The Wall Street Journal. "The incident, which Polish authorities said involved 19 incursions into its airspace, led authorities to close major Polish airports for the first time since the Ukraine war began."
  • Wild read from Wired on how much the new AI "friend" wearable absolutely sucks.
  • From Propaganda, by Jacques Ellul (1962):

"The typical error was to believe that if the individual were liberated from the smaller organic groups he would be set free. But in actuality he was exposed to the influence of mass currents, the influence of the state, and the direct integration into mass society." https://t.co/KaWjsd92pW

    Bitter Pill to Swallow

President Trump has signed a memorandum requiring Big Pharma to disclose all health risks in their ads.

    - Real-Time Daily News

Think we are moving beyond “100% safe and effective” while under the umbrella of blanket immunity. For those that view network television programming, “rectal bleeding” may appear in small print across your screen. For those Maddow viewers here, a visual of what that looks like will be provided in between when the advertisements air.

The glue that held together the tenuous alliance between libertarians and the political right was economic liberty. Now that the GOP has become the Trump party, it vehemently opposes the concept. So the left, which has traditionally opposed economic liberty, is now starting to embrace it. Simply because Trump hates it. That's one of the reasons why you see libertarians grudgingly allying with the political left. Because Trump drove them away.

Slaves? Do slaves typically take on significant personal risk to become enslaved? I'm sure there are some situations that could be called slavery, but I don't think it's a reasonable label for most illegal immigrant workers.

First, This is a non sequitur. marijuana grow ops are more about the drug war/cartels than cheap consumer goods.

Second, Let's see your evidence about these minors.

                    How many minors?
                    How old were they?
                    Did they get paid?
                    What hours did they work?

The reverse isn't true, though. The right has latched onto RFK's quest to fight Pharma which was always a left issue. At this point, the left so reflexively opposes anything that the right is for that it's impossible to join their positions. As soon as you do, they change them and start opposing.

It's not necessarily an ally, but it's a very complex situation there and they aren't our adeversary, either. Qatar is in this weird geopolitical space where they've been hosting us at their air bases for a generation now, but also have to maintain good relations with Iran due to the South Pars gas field. Thus, they've allowed leaders of Hamas to stay there, and are tied to other Muslim Brotherhood-aligned individuals such as Erdogan in Turkey. Because of this, they also have a massive rivalry with Saudi Arabia and the UAE, as well as Egypt, which has led to Kuwait taking on the role of peacemaker in the GCC, sort of like how there's one sibiling in a group that everyone seems to get along with, even if they hate each other's guts otherwise.

This probably won't mean much other than there's a real possibility going forward that the emir of Qatar will start questioning whether the presence of the US on his military bases is still providing him the protection he and his predecessors have enjoyed.

Not that matters because Trump is as feckless as Biden when it comes to making a statement like "I'm not thrilled about it," Trump told reporters last night. "I was very unhappy about it. Very unhappy about every aspect."

    Vax Romana

An Italian study on the decreased life expectancy for the vaccinated has been cited at a couple of libertarian outlets.

    Excerpt:
This means that the subjects vaccinated with two doses lost 37% of life expectancy compared to the unvaccinated population during the follow-up considered.

    And:
We found all-cause death risks to be even higher for those vaccinated with one and two doses compared to the unvaccinated and that the booster doses were ineffective. We also found a slight but statistically significant loss of life expectancy for those vaccinated with 2 or 3/4 doses.

    Review for yourselves:

I'm a bit more interested in that:
      1. This judge is apparently a sorority sister of the federal reserve board member who can't file financial paperwork properly.
      2. Her reasoning was that the only justifications by which a board member may be legally terminated 'for cause' are a) behavior in office, and b) 'whether they have been faithfully and effectively executing their statutory duties'. (So by that notion, even a conviction for mortgage fraud would only serve as cause if her sentence prevented her from executing her office.)

The president is not her boss. The Fed is an independent agency. The board members have fourteen year terms, and are not supposed to be subject to political whims. Historically when the central bank answers to the president the result is massive inflation. See Turkey, Argentina, and Hungary as examples.

The Fed is not part of any of the branches. It is an independent agency. The members have fourteen year terms and cannot be fired except for extreme circumstances. Otherwise there would be no point in them having fourteen year terms, since each new president would replace the entire board with toadies. The point of the long terms is so they can focus on long-term policy, as opposed to the whims of whomever is in the White House. When the central bank loses that independence, and becomes a tool of the president, the result has always been rampant inflation. As I said before, see Turkey, Argentina, and Hungary as examples. Wanting the president to control the central bank is a really bad idea. Especially because this particular president has to be one of the most economically ignorant people to ever occupy the White House.

Credible accusation of something that would effect job performance. Not spurious bullshit. The entire point is for the board members to be insulated from political crap like what Trump is doing. He wants to stack the board and put the rest in fear so they'll answer to his whims instead of looking forward.

There are seven board members at the Fed. They each have fourteen year terms. That means that each president gets to appoint two, or four, depending on how many terms the president gets. However once appointed, and confirmed by the Senate, they are hard to fire. And that is by design. They are supposed to be politically neutral. Yeah, that's hard for a hardcore partisan to imagine, but they're supposed to try. And since the presidency tends to alternate between parties, the board tends to be a mix of Republican and Democrat appointees. Again this is by design.

Pretty much every country now has a central bank. That's just the way it is. When the bank is independent, and the members are hard to fire, there tends to be more stability. When the bank is not independent, or is independent but the members are easily replaced by the president, there is no long term stability. The bank does what the president wants, which is usually low interest rates. So when there is inflation, and the central bank is supposed to raise interest rates to curb it, that does not happen. As a result the inflation gets worse. Why does Trump want to run the Fed? To keep interest rates low. Take a wild guess as to what will happen if he gets his way.

    The Bluegrass is Greener

A few years ago, Kentucky set the default starting point for shared custody at 50:50. Divorce rates subsequently dropped by 25% during the study period (2018 to 2023) which was a greater drop than the 18% national average over the same time.

    https://dailycaller.com/2025/09/08/mr-right-kentucky-divorce-rates-50-50-child-custody/

Note this is not an automatic outcome, just the baseline presumption. If one partner were a drunken loser that had CPS called on him after putting hands on his child, he likely isn’t getting 50% custody and hopefully wouldn’t get any access as a cardboard box in an alley is no place for a child to spend time.

Custody is the number one weapon by the woman's lawyer in divorce suits.

Here the alimony rates are set by a simple calculator, but judges are free to issue very high child support judgements, pushing women to go for full custody.

    https://legalinsurrection.com/2025/09/michigan-judge-dismisses-charges-against-fake-electors-for-trump/

But Simmons said testimony offered in the case made it clear — the electors were instructed by the Trump campaign that they were acting in the event results were overturned for Trump. Simmons said the charges require an element of intent. She recalled the witness testimony of James Renner, a Republican fake elector who was initially charged then had his case dismissed after agreeing to testify.

    Meanwhile, from southwestern Colorado:
Family’s world upended after ICE arrest near Bayfield
When Martin Geobany Terrazas, 33, and his co-worker were run off a dirt road and arrested last week near Bayfield by U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement agents, it wasn’t just their lives that were upended.

Terrazas’ wife, Liz Lozano, said her husband’s arrest has devastated her and their 8-year-old son, Tavo Terrazas, and brought everything in their lives to a stop. (and followed by many paragraphs about how wonderful Terrazas has been and how unfair any immigration enforcement is to "innocent" people.)

But in a reader comment (not verified):
This article conveniently omits any mention of Mr. Terazzas's criminal record, which includes:
    • Cocaine possession
    • Aggravated battery w/a deadly weapon
    • DUI
    • Domestic Violence
    • Driving on a revoked license

I guess when your husband's income is based on criminal activity, arresting him would technically bring "everything in your life to a stop." Maybe her 8-year-old can start slangin' that rock.

I see there's a domestic violence charge on there, too. Notably, the pooner that participated in the shooting at the STEM school in Highlands Ranch had an illegal immigrant father who also beat her mother on the regular before he got deported.

Maybe I'm off base, but I think all of these polls are grossly overestimating how many democrats are left. They're sampling like the country is 40% democrat, but they've been losing voters by every measurable metric for nearly a decade. The only real sign of strength was Biden getting 5M more votes than anyone in the history of the country.

It's different because for Bin Laden it was the US doing what the US wanted to do for our own purposes, no apologies. For Qatar it is Israel doing what the US did not want (if we are to to take Trump at his word) at our peril. I'm not criticizing Netanyahu, I'm criticizing his beta boy for letting him run roughshod over our foreign policy and putting us at risk for more increasing hostilities in the middle east...again.

Wait. How is it Trump's fault here?

DLAM has a good point. When the US took out Bin Laden it didn't consult with Israel and Qatar. When Israel took out a terrorist camp in Qatar it didn't consult with the US.

These are all independent, sovereign countries. They don't need anyone else's permission and that's how it should be.

Of course they did. The US controls Qatari airspace. Trump said he was told ahead of time and warned Qatar. There's no way this would have happened without Trump giving his blessing.

"It is de facto true via the Al Udeid Air Base"

It isn't de facto true for the Al Udeid Air Base. The Qatar Emiri Air Force monitors and controls the space over the airbase, which doesn't just host the USAF but also the Royal Air Force.

The USAF has a Combined Air and Space Operations Center at the base to provided command and control of American air craft throughout Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, and 17 other nations, but there is an explicit agreement with the US and the Brits that over Qatar it runs the show including the control tower ops for American aircraft within its space.

                      "This is naive"

Tell that to the crew of the USS Liberty.
Or Eisenhower after he learned of the Sinai Campaign.
Or Johnson when he found out about the kickoff to the Six-Day War.
Or Foggy Bottom when it learned about the Entebbe Raid.
Or Reagan when he found out about the Israeli strike on Iraq’s Osirak nuclear reactor, or when he was told after the fact about Israel’s invasion of Lebanon and the subsequent siege of Beirut.
Or Double-U when he learned about the airstrike on a purported nuclear facility in Deir ez-Zor, Syria.

This US was warned about none of them, wasn't consulted on any of them, and in half of the cases opposed the actions.

" We give billions of dollars of aid and weapons to Israel"

And billions to Egypt, and billions to Jordan, and billions to Iraq, and hundreds of millions to Saudi Arabia, and billions to the Gulf states, and yet somehow you don't think those countries are all Trump's puppets.

I'm talking about military air superiority, not air traffic control.

And if I'm wrong and Trump told Israel don't do this and they did anyway and he still continues aid to Israel that's an even worse instance of him being Netanyahu's bitch.

yet somehow you don't think those countries are all Trump's puppets.

And the reason this keeps happening is because the people who DO try and put a stop to it, like Daniel Penny, get dragged through the courts by shitlib DAs.

Blacks (and drug-huffing schizos regardless of race) acting like aggressive retards on public transportation happens because they know they have top cover from the media and urban shitlib politicians to do so.

Excellent. This is the conservative way. Lie and lie some more:

Another factor in the death of Iryna Zarutska on Charlotte's light rail--the left-wing MacArthur Foundation giving Mecklenburg county a $3.3 million grant to reduce the jail population. Specifically as part of "racial equity aims.
      ....
Like Soros' Open Society, the MacArthur Foundation incentivizes local municipalities to make residents less safe by leaving threats like Decarlos Brown on the streets.

The MacArthur Foundation must be owned by Soros.

Your lying skills are very conservative. You lie like a good little conservative should.

While ostensibly independent, OSF and the MacArthur Foundation have frequently joined forces on addressing "democratic" governance and "technological integrity" (badthink on teh intrawebs):

In October 2024, both foundations launched a US $20 million fund to support "democracy" in West Africa over a three-year period. It focused on citizen engagement and "democratic stability" in a region experiencing political instability.

In November 2023, OSF and MacArthur Foundation joined together in an initiative promoting "responsible" artificial intelligence—aiming to ensure AI advances "democracy", workforce empowerment, transparency, and "accountability".

Recently both foundations collaborated to increase overhead support for non-profit grantees, acknowledging the need for sustainable administrative funding (no more USAID to pilfer).

U.S. District Judge Jia Cobb has temporarily blocked President Trump's removal of Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, allowing Cook to return to work and possibly participate in the Fed's widely anticipated meeting next week that's likely to result in a rate cut.

Scotus has consistently ruled against these injunctions. Yet they keep happening. Time to start impeachment in the lower courts.

This is both false and retarded.

Decades of case law in private sector has allowed for cause firings for people who commit fraud working in financial institutions.

That’s what these anti-car fuckwits tend to forget. Before people used cars, they didn’t walk, nor did they use the streetcar. They rode horses, rode in wagons, buggies, and carriages pulled by horses, and they used horses for everything people use cars for now. Streets were built wide to accommodate horse drawn vehicles of all kinds, pulled by teams of horses, sometimes as many as ten to twelve horses. And unlike car, if a horse died, it was left right there, in the street to rot.

The Israeli attack on Hamas in Qatar is an example of what happens when Israel has nothing further to lose with world opinion. Destroying Hamas in Gaza earned them nothing but opprobrium from the feel-gooders despite the heinous crimes committed by Hamas on civilians in Israel. If you have already been labeled as genocidal for a legitimate total war in self-defense, what is the downside of attacking your enemy wherever they happen to be hiding?

Also, Trump is wrong about brokering peace in the Middle East. Peace is impossible in the Middle East. Every President in recent history has fantasized about peace-making there and all of them have failed. The only way the terrorists will stop attacking Israel and derailing any other long-term efforts to stabilize international relations with Islam would be the elimination of the Jewish State of Israel completely.

Sure. Last week Trump should have told the Qatari gov to give up the Hamas leaders and terrorists in their country.

Trump's ultimatum ended for Hamas to surrender their arms. This action was justified due to the lack of desire to cooperate and end the war from Hamas's side and they will continue to pay the price.

This interference by judges has elevated beyond absurd. Now citing due process rights for someone to be fired?

How is fraud, a financial crime, not an immediate proper cause for removal from the Federal Reserve? Cook would be denied being hired by a Check Cashing store, FFS.

And she did fail at her job.

This judge has essentially ruled that Cook could commit murder and because the murder was outside of her job and did not involve anyone working at the Fed Cook could not be removed?

WTF is wrong with people these days? It's like there's no ability for practical reasoning or thought with the vast majority of people in powerful positions.

It's their favorite stalling tactic du jour, and by "due process" they mean a full trial by jury and not actual due process.

I had to look up what the context for this was and when I googled "non-human orange county" I only got one related result on the first page. Checked the same thing on Bing and first 7 results were relevant to this news.

Anyway, here is some context for everyone else -
"Laura Lee Yourex, a 62-year-old Costa Mesa resident, was charged with five felonies on Friday after she registered her dog, Maya, to vote in the 2021 gubernatorial recall election and the 2022 primary election, prosecutors said." https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/orange-county-woman-charged-for-illegally-registering-dog-to-vote-in-2021-2022-elections/ar-AA1LYPTk

Crime is down. The stats prove it.

“The man who allegedly kiIIed former vet professor Julie Schnuelle while she was walking her dog was arrested in 2023 on a gun related felony (2-10 years) & misdemeanors

Prosecutors DROPPED the charges and let him out on unsupervised probation.

Another m*rder that could’ve been prevented if we kept criminals in prison!”

    >but is he saying that we should go without new, better technology to protect the jobs of taxi drivers and long-haul truck drivers?

    Maybe?

Consider this - the cost of transport is already so low. How far will we go to maximize efficiency? How far will we go to render our fellow humans useless? And what will we do when we no longer need anyone else?

Charlie Kirk shot at a speaking event:

A close up video not available at a website suggests he died instantly.

I saw a clip on a relatively notorious website and they got him right in the neck.

The boomer suspect is in custody. Once the name is dropped, will search the FEC website for any political donations.

Multiple outlets reporting that he has died.

It's not him, just some random Boomer schizo. The guy that got him did it from a building 200 yards away, meaning it's probably some ex-military tranny or Antifa assassin.

Keep in mind that Trantifa's been openly saying on social media that they're going to start nurking people. The Zizians are of the same stripe. Watch for the Palantir surveillance state to go into overdrive after this.

Congrats, lefties, you actually managed to do something that took the Epstein birthday card off the newscycle.

Kirk getting killed like this is particularly ironic given that he was absolutely dedicated to sitting down and talking to the left about all these issues. It's why he always went to the left's strongholds on college campuses. He's said that the minute people stop talking, that's pretty much the end. He was one of the most inoffensive, nonthreatening dorks you could possibly imagine, sort of the epitome of the goofy right of the 2000s.

Our elites worry endlessly about right wing political violence, but we get left wing political violence.

Always the same. But NYT will blame Charlie and then claim Republicans pounced on the story.

MSNBC speculated whether it could have been a supporter shooting their gun off in celebration. The world of MSDNC and Reason cocktail parties is like Plato’s cave to me.
