Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu | Chris Emil JanßEn/Zuma Press/Newscom
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (Chris Emil JanßEn/Zuma Press/Newscom)

Netanyahu's cabinet decides: Israel will take over full control of Gaza City, per a cabinet vote, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced today. This comes after news broke yesterday that the Israeli military will also start a complete occupation of Gaza in order to stamp out Hamas, with the end goal being to surrender the territory to "Arab forces that will govern it properly without threatening us," in Netanyahu's words. This means the 800,000 to 1 million Palestinians who still reside there will be evacuated south, with a deadline of October 7 of this year.

At the beginning of the war, which started after Hamas' October 7, 2023, terrorist attack on Israel, the Israel Defense Forces captured most of Gaza City before later giving it up again under the assumption, which turned out to be false, that Hamas had been eradicated in those areas. Currently, Israel controls about three-quarters of the Gaza Strip.

Other countries have responded with sharp rebukes. Germany said this morning that it would no longer supply arms to Israel over the Gaza occupation plan. Officials from Belgium, Norway, and the U.K. have already voiced condemnation.

And "mediators from Egypt and Qatar are working on a new framework which will include the release of all hostages—dead and alive—in one go in return for an end of the war in Gaza and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the strip," per two Arab officials, according to The Times of Israel. In some sense, this could have been Israel's plan all along.

"The threat of a full occupation could be part of a strategy to try to force the group into making concessions in stalled ceasefire talks," notes the BBC. "Israeli leaders say Hamas, for now, is not interested in negotiating as, in their view, the group is feeling emboldened, a view that seems to be shared by the Trump administration which has not expressed opposition to Israel's plans."

But Hamas has so far said that Israel's decision to expand the war shows that Netanyahu and other Israeli politicians are "indifferent to the fate of their captives" and "fully aware that expanding the aggression would mean sacrificing them." (It's estimated that there are 50 remaining hostages, 30 of whom are believed to be dead.)

It's also possible that Netanyahu is responding to internal pressures: There are elements of the right-wing in Israel that view total eradication of Hamas as absolutely necessary, and an occupation—first by the military, then by normal Israelis—as the best means of achieving that. Israeli politicians Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich have advocated, for example, "what they describe as the voluntary migration of Palestinians from Gaza…and resettling it with Jews," per the BBC. (But it's hard to say how exactly you get this voluntary migration, which sounds a little forced to me, especially if there's an Israeli military occupation of the territory; Netanyahu's comments about handing Gaza to "Arab forces" have so far rankled parts of his coalition.)

"According to the Israel Hayom daily, taking over Gaza City is expected to take three months, and two additional months will be needed to also seize control of central Gaza's camps and clear the entire area of terror operatives," per The Times of Israel. "The plan is therefore estimated to take a total of seven months to complete, and to require calling up an estimated 200,000 reservists."

"Netanyahu has set himself an unachievable definition of success, and therefore the operation will never succeed," Thomas R. Nides, former U.S. ambassador to Israel, told The New York Times.

Reposting this...I don't expect Germany, Belgium, Norway, and the U.K. to bring 2M Palestinians to THEIR neighborhood what with them managing to make such great strides in purging themselves of Jews.

Kill Jews, Get Your Own State

A Hamas leader says new global recognition for Palestinian statehood is a reward for the Oct. 7 massacre.

The leaders of France, Canada and the United Kingdom think they’re doing a good deed by saying they’ll soon recognize a state of Palestine at the United Nations. Maybe they should listen to the response from Hamas, which thinks this recognition is a reward for slaughtering Jews.

That’s the only way to interpret comments Saturday by Hamas Politburo member Ghazi Hamad on Al Jazeera. “The powerful blow that was delivered to Israel on Oct. 7 has yielded three very important historic achievements. First of all, it brought the Palestinian cause back. Why are all these countries recognizing Palestine now?” he asked.

Now that the Nova Scotia government has closed woods to travel and activities because of the ongoing dry conditions and high risk of devastating wildfires,...It means that the activities of people have caused the fire. That can include:...Walking through the woods with anything like metal walking poles that could make contact with a rock, causing a spark that may start a fire.

      • Tossing, breaking or uncovering a glass bottle may produce a lens effect that focuses the sun’s rays and starts a fire. Plastic bottles of water can have the same effect under certain conditions.'

Even more likely: spontaneous human combustion.

US manufacturing extends slump; factory employment lowest in 5 years
        ...
WASHINGTON, Aug 1 (Reuters) - U.S. manufacturing contracted for a fifth straight month in July and factory employment dropped to the lowest level in five years amid tariffs that have raised prices of imported raw materials.
The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) said on Friday that its manufacturing PMI dropped to 48.0 last month from 49.0 in June. A PMI reading below 50 indicates contraction in manufacturing, which accounts for 10.2% of the economy.

One of the stated reasons for the CHIPS act was to counter Chinese operations. But Democrats (Chuck Schumer) fought to remove provisions that would tend to funnel US taxpayer dollars into China as part of the CHIPS act.

          -----

"Some are critical of the bill due to it doing little to hold China accountable. “The answer to the Chinese Communist Party’s malevolent ambitions is not spending billions of dollars to help Fortune 500 companies, with no guarantee those dollars won’t end up supporting these companies’ business operations in China," said Heritage President Kevin Roberts"

"The legislation had faced criticism from some Senate Republicans, such as Florida’s Marco Rubio, who said it lacked “guardrails” to prevent any of the funding from winding up in China’s hands.

Today, Senator Rick Scott spoke on the Senate floor and filed a budget point of order against the CHIPS Act, a pro-China bill with a $280 BILLION price tag. Senator Scott also filed an amendment to the CHIPS Act to place safeguards around the funds to ensure that no American tax dollars flow to Communist China, but Senate Democrats led by Senator Chuck Schumer, are refusing to amend or improve the bill.

        4. Medulla Oblongata   9 months ago

I believe we were doing this corporate welfare to *counter* China? You know, in the name of national security and the domestic economy we wanted to bring more semi-conductor chip manufacturing on shore. Between Schumer and Republican in-fighting, we're either going to be handing billions of dollars pretty much directly to China--fully in opposition to the desired outcome--or perhaps (we can hope!) that the bill is scuttled (but I won't hold my breath).

Schumer Strips Anti-China Security Provision From Major Semiconductor Bill (freebeacon.com)

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) removed an anti-China security measure from a bill that invests billions of dollars in the U.S. technology sector, a move Republicans say would allow China to benefit from the spending bill and could kneecap the legislation.

At issue are provisions written by Sen. Rob Portman (R., Ohio) that bar U.S. companies from manufacturing products in China, such as semiconductors, that were developed using federally funded research. Myriad government and private investigations conclude that the Chinese government routinely steals trade secrets from U.S. companies, government agencies, and universities.

Schumer earlier this month removed Portman's provisions from the Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors (CHIPS) for America Act, throwing a wrench into the vote for Republicans who were under the impression it would be included and planned to vote for the bill, according to multiple interviews and internal documents viewed by the Washington Free Beacon.

The reason Schumer removed Portman's anti-China provision is unclear. Some say he caved to lobbying efforts from various interest groups and the White House. The Senate last year passed a version of Portman's measure with bipartisan support, but the House never put it up for a vote.

The removal puts a bipartisan bill that appeared to be headed toward approval in jeopardy. Opponents of the CHIPS Act now include several Republican senators who initially supported the funding for the domestic production of semiconductors. Even if it passes, the lack of meaningful guardrails against the Chinese raise grave questions about whether a bill initially meant to counter China may backfire.

Schumer did not respond to a request for comment.

          1. SCOTUS gave JeffSarc a big sad   9 months ago

No surprise here. His was against the interests of Biden’s Beijing boss. So the order came down to remove the provision.

        5. Medulla Oblongata   9 months ago

          CHIPS Act was pork-filled cronyism...

I know that Ohio has a new Intel facility slated. I have no idea what incentives to get that plant cost Ohio and/or the federal government, or whether these proposed funds will go into that pile. For the record, Intel's gross profit for the twelve months ending March 31, 2022 was $42.205B, a 0.58% decline year-over-year. Intel's annual gross profit for 2021 was $43.815B, a 0.47% increase from 2020. Intel's annual gross profit for 2020 was $43.612B, a 3.49% increase from 2019. It seems to me that if Intel wanted to build chip factories in the US, they can afford to build chip factories in the US without putting their hand out to the US taxpayers.

Same for others in US chip industry:

Qualcomm: Revenue: $11.16 billion, adjusted, versus $10.60 billion expected, up 41% year-over-year. QCT (chip sales): $9.55 billion versus $8.86 billion expected per StreetAccount, up 52% year-over-year. QTL (technology licensing): $1.58 billion versus $1.55 billion expected per StreetAccount, down 2% year-over-year..
Texas Instruments gross profit for the twelve months ending March 31, 2022 was $13.021B, a 30.5% increase year-over-year. Texas Instruments annual gross profit for 2021 was $12.376B, a 33.52% increase from 2020. TI's profit margin on chips was 43%.
Analog Devices gross profit for the twelve months ending April 30, 2022 was $5.690B, a 36.19% increase year-over-year. Analog Devices annual gross profit for 2021 was $4.525B, a 22.61% increase from 2020.
Microchip Technology gross profit for the twelve months ending March 31, 2022 was $4.450B, a 31.69% increase year-over-year. Microchip Technology annual gross profit for 2022 was $4.45B, a 31.69% increase from 2021. Microchip Technology annual gross profit for 2021 was $3.379B, a 4.22% increase from 2020.

List of Companies Pledging to Invest Billions in US Since Donald Trump Win

Multiple companies are still putting big money into the U.S. economy.

Johnson & Johnson: On Friday, Johnson & Johnson announced manufacturing, research and development, and technology investments of more than $55 billion in the U.S. over the next four years. They say it represents a 25 percent increase in investment compared to the previous four years under President Joe Biden, crediting an increase in investment levels to the 2017 Tax Cuts & Jobs Act. Also on Friday, the company broke ground on a 500,000-square-foot biologics manufacturing facility in Wilson, North Carolina.
SoftBank: On Monday, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son visited Trump at Mar-a-Lago and announced a $100 billion investment over the next four years with a promise to create 100,000 jobs focused on artificial intelligence and related infrastructure, according to CNBC.
United Arab Emirates: After a meeting with Trump, the United Arab Emirates committed to a 10-year, $1.4 trillion agreement with the U.S. that will sustain existing investments in AI infrastructure, semiconductors, energy, and American manufacturing, according to Reuters.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company: Semiconductor giant TSMC announced earlier this month in response to Trump's tariffs threat on foreign chips that it would invest another $100 billion into its U.S. operations. The anticipated new chip fabrication plants, two advanced packaging facilities, and a new research and design center will increase the company's total investment in Phoenix to $165 billion—the largest foreign direct investment in U.S. history.
In January, Trump announced a $500 billion private investment in AI infrastructure led by OpenAI, Oracle and SoftBank.
Apple: Tech giant Apple announced a $500 billion investment.
Nvidia: On Thursday, the White House announced that chipmaker Nvidia would invest hundreds of billions of dollars over the next four years in U.S.-based manufacturing operations.

Netanyahu's comments about handing Gaza to "Arab forces" have so far rankled parts of his coalition

If you did something like got an agreement from Arab states to provide troops to patrol a 100m strip inside the Gaza border to prevent Palestinians from traversing into Israel, Hamas would happily kill the Arab troops.

Ask Jordan if they want to have some more Palestinians in Jordan?

    https://www.spiked-online.com/2025/08/04/the-nuneaton-child-rape-cover-up/

British police appear desperate to follow the same failed playbook. Namely, inflaming community tensions in the name of easing them, and treating the public with contempt.

This time, in Nuneaton. The Warwickshire town has been shaken by a horrific crime. On Tuesday 22 July, a 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped. Two Afghan asylum seekers, living in taxpayer-funded houses just 70 yards from one another, are in the frame. Ahmad Mulakhil, 23, has been charged with vaginal and oral rape of a child. Mohammad Kabir, also 23, has been charged with aiding and abetting rape, as well as strangulation and kidnap of the girl.

    ...

Indeed, the protests in Epping were sparked by a chillingly similar situation – an Ethiopian asylum seeker who managed to rack up three charges of sexual assault, one of inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity and one of harassment without violence, just eight days after he stepped off a dinghy on the south coast.

There was the whole population collapse thing due to diseases. Not saying it was deliberate (most of it happened before white people even got to most of the continent), but it did happen. And I'm not sure the New World practices of human sacrifice, slavery, etc. are really a justification for violent conquest. The white culture certainly wasn't any more oppressive, colonialist or violent than many of the native cultures, but let's not pretend they were angels either. The way I look at it, history is what it is and something like the European colonial period was going to happen one way or another once technology and knowledge of the nature of the world allowed it. And it's stupid and evil to blame current people or cultures for what their ancestors did or what happened hundreds of years ago.

            1. Quicktown Brix   9 months ago

And this type of thing happened many times in prehistory.

I wonder if in the distant future people will view this as just another migratory takeover like the Anatolian farmers overtaking the European hunter-gatherers.

It may also be viewed culturally as a continuation of the explosion of Proto-IndoEuropean steppe people spreading throughout Europe and Asia continuing globally.

              1. Earth-based Human Skeptic   9 months ago

But if migratory occupation and displacement is inherently wrong, then everyone currently in Europe that comes from south of the Mediterranean and east of the Urals better go back home.

And yes, I failed post-modern intersectional colonizing, and never understood the asymmetric definition of "racism".

And it seems likely that there were ever earlier migratory displacements in Europe. There's not much left of the genes of the people who were making cave paintings 20000 years ago.

Recall that, a little over 25 years ago, Christy Turner hypothesized that some Pueblo and Dine bands practiced cannibalism, which was MASSIVELY controversial because it refuted the whole Noble Savage bullshit that academia had been pumping out for a generation prior as part of the Dee Brown thesis.

Before he passed, the Desert Drifter guy showed videos to some places that clearly indicated the ruins of fortresses, observation towers, and strongholds. The Pueblo ruins at Pecos National Monument were clearly sited in the place that was meant to provide them with warning on potentially hostile activity. Slavery and kidnapping were considered a normal part of native life.

            1. Earth-based Human Skeptic   9 months ago

Yeah, and the late stage Pueblo culture stuff in SW Colorado has plenty of evidence of violence, and even cannibalism, but gets little time in the modern archeology/anthropology literature--and zero exposure to the public, such as in national parks.

Fun example (from memory): villages excavated before Lake Navajo flooded Ridges Basin, just outside Durango, found ritually destroyed pueblos and lots of scattered human bones with butcher marks.

My own interpretation: people--of all colors-- have been assholes since forever.

    https://www.spiked-online.com/2025/08/07/criminals-who-cross-dress-can-now-avoid-deportation/

Another week, another mad story from the immigration courts. According to the Telegraph, a 27-year-old Algerian criminal has been permitted to stay in Britain as a refugee because he describes himself as transgender.

The man entered the UK in 2013, illegally. Citing the ‘situation’ in Algeria, he was given limited leave to remain as a refugee by UK authorities. Following a string of offences – including burglary, theft and battery – that landed him in jail, the Home Office issued a deportation order in 2022. He appealed, arguing that the fact he ‘was and is a transvestite and / or transgender’ made it too dangerous for him to return to Algeria. He also said that his father ‘threatened to kill him’.

When the Refugee Convention was established in 1951 it had noble aims. It was designed for a world coming to terms with the aftermath of war and mass displacement. But the flexibility of the term ‘refugee’ has now made it close to meaningless. Should a trans-identifying burglar from Algeria really be entitled to the same protection as women and children fleeing a war zone?

‘I realised I was a woman because I hate the smell of balls.’ This was in reference to Tickle once saying that the bad smell of men’s changing rooms inspired him to transition.

    https://www.spiked-online.com/2025/08/05/australia-land-of-sun-surf-and-pregnant-men/

Australian trans activist Roxanne Tickle is as likely to get pregnant as the late Dame Edna Everage. This isn’t a jab at his dating prospects – it’s simply an acknowledgement that he’s a man. Yet Australia’s sex discrimination commissioner, Anna Cody, has in effect told a court that Tickle is perfectly capable of giving birth. In fact, Cody has argued that Australia’s pregnancy-protection laws should cover Tickle – and any other man who declares himself a woman.

Of course, the weirdest thing about this case is the fact that it is happening at all. What we are witnessing has to be seen to be believed: in modern Australia, a man can sue a feminist because he wasn’t allowed on an app specifically designed to protect women from men. He can even claim pregnancy protections, and have the nation’s sex discrimination commissioner cup his balls while he does so.

Carville calls on Democrats to 'unilaterally' pack Supreme Court, create new blue states 'to save democracy'

Democratic strategist James Carville urged on Wednesday that Democrats open "Pandora’s Box" and execute multiple controversial power grabs to "save democracy," including establishing a permanent electoral majority the next time they gain power.

"The Democrats talk about democracy – the importance of democracy and preserving democracy and saving democracy," Carville said. "Well, the truth of the matter is, people are right when they say this democracy is really imperfect."

Carville listed several perceived imbalances in the current system, including Texas attempting to redraw its congressional districts. He argued that if Democrats can pull off a resounding victory in 2028 – winning the presidency, the Senate, and the House – they should use it to enshrine their power in unprecedented ways.

"They are just going to have to unilaterally add Puerto Rico and District of Columbia states," Carville said.

"They're going to have to do it. They're just going to have to do it. And they may have to expand the [Supreme Court] to 13 members," he said.

Scenes from NYC: Of course he is...indoctrination centers (schools) are important to communists.

And your education! Is not that also social, and determined by the social conditions under which you educate, by the intervention direct or indirect, of society, by means of schools, &c.? The Communists have not invented the intervention of society in education; they do but seek to alter the character of that intervention, and to rescue education from the influence of the ruling class. The bourgeois clap-trap about the family and education, about the hallowed co-relation of parents and child, becomes all the more disgusting, the more, by the action of Modern Industry, all the family ties among the proletarians are torn asunder, and their children transformed into simple articles of commerce and instruments of labour.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/socialist-mayoral-candidate-declares-war-on-charter-schools/ar-AA1K78Xv

Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani recently said that if elected mayor of New York City, he would fight against charter schools, leading parents to respond with outrage.

“I oppose efforts by the state to mandate an expansion of charter school operations in New York City,” the state assemblyman from Queens said in a Staten Island Advance questionnaire prior to the June Democratic primary, which he won.

Charter schools, which are publicly funded and often educate lower-income students, would not be allowed to share the same space as city-owned buildings, according to Mamdani.

“I also oppose the co-locating of charter schools inside DOE (Department of Education) school buildings, but for those already co-located my administration would undertake a comprehensive review of charter school funding to address the unevenness of our system,” the survey said.

There is a school voucher program starting up in my state. The lefties on reddit have been having a collective tantrum about it, often making up stuff about the program that isnt founded in reality at all. Stuff like "this is just a handout to the wealthy and the private schools who will double their tuition" despite the fact that tuition hasnt changed a dime in our area, and its mostly for poor to lower middle class earners. If you post just a link to actual facts about the vouchers they will downvote to oblivion, or the mods will remove your post.

They all know what they are doing. The local district is extremely progressive, and the surrounding private schools, charter schools, and county schools are more focused on academics with minimal social politics. They want as many kids trapped in their indoctrination schools, and are having a full freakout that some kids are being given an exit ramp

    Inclusivity is misogynistic:

    https://www.outkick.com/analysis/minnesota-fencing-division-eliminates-womens-competitions

"The USA Fencing Minnesota division has announced it will no longer sanction sex-based competitions, opting instead for only mixed-gender events — a move that will force female athletes to compete against not only transgender-identifying males but also the entire male field.

The decision is a direct response to USA Fencing’s updated transgender athlete policy, which took effect on August 1 and now bans biological males from competing in the women’s division. USA Fencing made the change after the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) updated its athlete safety policy to align with President Donald Trump’s "Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports" executive order.

Rather than comply, Minnesota’s division condemned the change as "harmful."

"The Minnesota Division would like to affirm our commitment to inclusion and acknowledge the harmful effects of the new USA Fencing policy as guided by the USOPC's guidelines," the organization said in a statement. "The recent changes in the USA Fencing policy, in line with USOPC guidelines, has caused pain and confusion in the entire fencing community.""

"That controversy prompted the Department of Education to elevate its case to the federal Title IX Special Investigations Team — a joint enforcement effort with the Department of Justice.

Minnesota law also makes it easier for biological males to enter female divisions through a birth certificate loophole: individuals can change the sex marker on their birth certificate with only a doctor’s note or a court order, and the updated document does not have to indicate it was amended. This allows male athletes to appear eligible for female-only categories even when national policies forbid it."

"a move that will force female athletes to compete against not only transgender-identifying males but also the entire male field."

This was always the logical conclusion once you start down this path with Lia Thomas and others.

The farce will be complete when entire teams or events in the playoffs/finals are just dudes competing against each other, some of which we have already seen. There was some UK handball co-ed tourney that got dominated by a team that just had guys, recent billiards event where the finals were both transgender biological males.

The result will be erasure of women's sports.

      1. tracerv   9 months ago

Maybe bullying does have its place.

I did have a female friend in HS who joined the football team. And after trying out field hockey in gym class, I kind of wished there was a boys team.

        1. Red Rocks White Privilege   9 months ago

The University of Colorado notably has a sanctioned girls lacrosse team, but not a boys team. There is a boys team, but it's a club sport, which is incredibly stupid considering how popular lacrosse is on the Front Range specifically. I remember my high school having it as a club sport itself 30 years ago (playing mainly a few other schools in the east metro), and now there's nearly 75 sanctioned teams. They could easily have as good of a program as the University of Denver does.

          1. JesseAz (Prime Meanster of Sarcasia)   9 months ago

I actually played club lacrosse in college and the woman's team was sponsored by the school. This was due strictly to title ix. They had to offset the number of funded men on basketball and football by funding women's sports. So women got funded for travel, men had to pay their own way.

            1. Red Rocks White Privilege   9 months ago

I get the Title IX requirements, but at CU that's not the case. Adding the women's lacrosse team actually increased the number of women's teams over the number of men's teams. I suspect it was done that way for no other reason than the same dumb "women and girls" virtue signaling.

Why is it folks make backassward comments like this when reality proves otherwise?

"There are elements of the right-wing in Israel that view total eradication of Hamas as absolutely necessary, and an occupation—first by the military, then by normal Israelis—as the best means of achieving that."

Sensible honest and good people regardless of what part of the political spectrum they are in want terrorists to be eliminated from the earth. Sorry but I do know some on the left who do not support Hammas or terrorism. Yet your comment suggests they all do.

I have had enough of people trying to pin religion to being on the right when religion is not left nor right. The Taliban, Iran, Hammas etc are totalitarian and that makes them extreme left.

The only folks starting wars and causing destruction in any sizeable amount are leftists.

This BS needs to end. The spectrum manipulation and feeding the masses lies for decades needs to stop.

On the left, the extreme left, is Totalitarianism. 100% government control. The Taliban, The Spanish inquisition, Russia, China, Iran.

On the right is Anarchy. No government. No controls. Free for all without restriction or order.

The US began just to the left of anarchy but right of center. Libertarian is supposed to be right of center. Small government and the least infringement on society as possible by authority.

And you also have the economic part. Socialism is the extreme left, 100% state control and complete regulation of the economy. And capitalism 100% free market, no regulation at all.

The Marxists/Communists/Socialists after WW2 had to have a boogy man on the right because at that time all of the evil came from the left. All of it. So they tried to paint Nazis and fascists on the right to make themselves appear less evil.

And as we see the left is always slinging lies and hate, violence, assault, vandalism, etc while attempting to suggest, project, the right is going to rise up and act as they do. And that does not happen...

    California's child trafficking enabling bill:

    https://paulchappell.com/2025/08/07/ab-495-parental-rights-on-the-chopping-block-in-california/

"AB 495, misleadingly titled the “Family Unity and Preparedness Act,” is a bill making its way through the California legislature. It’s being framed as a compassionate measure to help children of detained or deported migrant parents. But a closer look reveals something different.

The truth is, AB 495 opens the door for adults—who are not the child’s legal guardian, and may not even be related—to gain temporary custody with little more than a signature.

Here’s what the bill actually does:

Allows any adult, including a non-relative with no legal connection to the family, to assume broad authority over a child by signing a caregiver affidavit—no court hearing, no background check, no oversight.
Requires schools and licensed childcare providers to implement policies that limit cooperation with immigration enforcement, even when the safety or identity of a child is in question.
Blocks schools and childcare staff from gathering or reporting information related to a child’s immigration status or the legitimacy of custody arrangements.
And the scope of that assumed authority is staggering. Once the affidavit is accepted, the caregiver may be able to enroll the child in school, access medical care on their behalf, and even consent to gender-related interventions or other serious procedures—all without a parent’s knowledge or consent."

"It’s impossible to receive this bill as a good-faith attempt to help children of migrant parents for two reasons:

It removes protections that already exist. California law already allows parents to make plans for temporary guardianship during emergencies. What AB 495 does is bypass those legal processes—removing the checks and balances that exist for a reason. In the name of speed and convenience, it eliminates the very safeguards that protect children from being placed with the wrong people.
It applies to everyone. Even if this bill only applied to migrant families, it would be a serious threat to child safety. But it goes further. The text of the bill makes no such limitation. Its provisions would apply to any child, anywhere in California. That reveals what this bill really is: not a narrow solution for a specific situation, but a broad expansion of state power over families."

"If you live in California, this bill threatens your parental rights. It tells institutions to trust paperwork over parents, and it tells the state to trust strangers over families.

It empowers adults to walk into a school and take a child—no court order, no hearing, no legal vetting required.

If you live outside California, you’re not off the hook. History shows us that what happens in California rarely stays there. Bad policy spreads—especially when it goes unchallenged. If this bill becomes law, it sets a precedent that other states can follow.

We must shut this down before it becomes the new national norm."

    1. Red Rocks White Privilege   9 months ago

Seriously, fuck California, and fuck the people and their politicians. This is nothing more than the state legalizing kidnapping.

The politicians supporting this bill all need to be pushed through a woodchipper if it passes.

      1. Earth-based Human Skeptic   9 months ago

Again, think about national divorce. We could cede only about 5% of the geographic US and eliminate 80% of the crazy. But we would have to find a taker.

        1. Zeb   9 months ago

Why do we need a taker? CA and NY certainly have the wherewithal to be independent states.
And you really only need to lose coastal CA south of SF and NYC, long Island and maybe a few other NY counties in that area and those states would be nearly solid red.

    "The Occupation."

There would be no "occupation" if the Hamas terrorist pigs would release the 7 October hostages they kidnapped, raped and murdered.

I hope no released illegal immigrants rape or murder anyone in Chicago.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/chicago-police-refused-to-turn-over-92-of-illegal-immigrants-to-ice-under-trump/ar-AA1KaQRv

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem announced on Friday that Chicago’s refusal to let police work with ICE has led to virtually all illegal immigrants being released onto the streets after being arrested by local police for offenses in the community.

“In just the last seven months, ICE has issued over 1,664 detainers in Chicago alone,” Noem said during a press conference in the Chicago area Friday morning. “Unfortunately, Chicago and its leadership has only honored 8% of those.”

He Turned Around Detroit as a Democratic Mayor. Now He’s Ditching the Party.

DETROIT—One of the nation’s most popular big-city mayors says he can’t be a Democrat any longer and is instead trying to prove Elon Musk’s suggestion that America needs another option to the two major parties.

“The identity of the Democratic Party is we hate Republicans in general and we hate Donald Trump specifically,” he said. “That is the only unifying principle of the Democratic Party today. They disagree on everything else.”

Duggan, 67, said both parties are dramatically different from when he was growing up as the son of a federal judge.

“He was a proud Republican: stand up to the Russians, balance the budget, cut taxes,” he said of his father. “The Republican Party doesn’t stand for those things today, and the Democratic Party used to be focused on leveling the playing field for the blue-collar workers and for people in the rural areas. Today, those folks don’t think the Democratic Party speaks for them at all.”

    Fascists!

I'm told that when government employees are laid off, it's fascism...

But it's still funny to see L.A. getting reamed by lawyers and judges alike over their waffling on homelessness solutions and how much they cost. Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind! and all that.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/law-firm-in-l-a-homelessness-case-bills-the-city-1-8-million-for-two-weeks-work/ar-AA1K8XyJ

A high-profile law firm representing the city of Los Angeles in a sweeping homelessness case submitted an $1.8-million invoice for two weeks of work in May, according to records reviewed by The Times.

The city retained Gibson Dunn just as council members were signing off on hundreds of employee layoffs, part of a larger strategy for closing a nearly $1-billion budget shortfall. The first batch of layoff notices was scheduled to go out this week.
