Brickbat: Batter Up

The police department in Prichard, Alabama, has placed Officer Tvon Campbell and another officer whose name was not released on administrative leave after video went viral showing Campbell hitting a man with a baseball bat. The officers were responding to a domestic violence call when Devoris Malone fled, holding his wife in the car against her will. When a Taser failed to subdue the suspect, Campbell used a bat, even continuing to strike Malone while he was on the ground. The Prichard Police Department, working with the Mobile County District Attorney, is reviewing body camera footage to assess the officers' actions. Malone has been charged with first degree kidnapping. Mayor Jimmie Gardner emphasized that baseball bats are not authorized by the department.

He subdued the perp using an unauthorized baseball bat in lieu of using his authorized 9 mm and making him a holey man. Watched the video - a large handful of well placed one-handed strikes did the trick. Unorthodox but effective, and nobody died.
Better to follow official procedure and kill him.
A normal person would not hesitate about the bat, horrible as that is. A cop has a higher standard but unless this cop has a history of abuse I would say he did the perp a favor. He didn't kill him
Yeah, the cop used it as if it were a standard issue baton.
Outrage meter: nil.

That other officer's class must be triple protected. It's interesting the arbitrary nature of what tools of violence the state's agents are permitted to employ against its citizens to gain compliance.
Adapt; improvise; overcome.
Wrong uniform; color is the most important thing.
“During this incident, the officer deployed a piece of equipment, a baseball bat that is not authorized or issued by the department instead of the standard issued baton,” Prichard Mayor Jimmie Gardner said.
Does the standard baton have any real world difference then the bat? Other then Big Baton's contract with the state.
Black cop in video. White cop in Reason graphics.
