Unfortunately There's a Debate Tonight

Donald Trump standing at a podium during June's presidential debate | ELIJAH NOUVELAGE/UPI/Newscom
(ELIJAH NOUVELAGE/UPI/Newscom)

What to watch for tonight: Hopefully, both candidates will appear cogent and awake, which will be a welcome change from last time.

That's not to say either is a great debater or speaker. It was back in 2019 that former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D–Hawaii)—then an actual Democrat vs. a Fox News talking head—forced Vice President Kamala Harris into a defensive crouch, saying Harris owed apologies to people who "suffered under [her] reign" as prosecutor, which Harris responded to ineptly.

Former President Donald Trump, meanwhile, has been on a tear lately, holding a press conference on Friday during which he…reminded voters of all the sexual assault and harassment allegations against him, which is seemingly not in his best interest. ("The former president also repeatedly implied he would not have assaulted two of his accusers due to their looks," read a clinical Associated Press write-up of the conference.)

Though the candidates are neck and neck in the polls, Trump has had a bad August. Harris, meanwhile, was able to ride a bit of Democratic National Convention news cycle momentum but is now concerned about the debate format.

"Kamala Harris had planned to object, fact-check and directly question Donald Trump while he was speaking during their debate next week," reports Politico. "But now, with rules just finalized to mute the candidates when their opponents speaks, campaign officials said Harris advisers are scrambling to rewrite their playbook."

As for the issues themselves…Harris, as of this week, has populated her website with actual policy positions. We'll see now whether she can actually answer for them.

Expect border issues to be front and center during this debate, specifically Harris' record as border czar. Her campaign—and an obsequious mainstream media—has downplayed her role, claiming actually she was in charge of tackling the deeper root causes, so none of the chaos is truly her fault. The Biden/Harris administration has seen a record influx of migrants at the southern border, which they attempted to crack down on via a June executive order that placed restrictions on asylum seekers.

Expect economic issues to be highlighted, too. Trump will most likely look to ding Harris on the rampant inflation that has the made cost of living far higher under the Biden administration. But they've both converged on a broader gospel of economic populism—neither is a fan of free markets, and both want certain types of protectionism and economic interventionism. (Trump's tariffs would cause certain economic ruin, if imposed; but, of course, tariffs are woefully unsexy, so we'll see how much airtime such things get tonight.)

Abortion, a topic Harris' campaign has attempted to ding Trump on, will also likely be emphasized, especially with Trump's recent vows to provide free in vitro fertilization to those who seek it and his opposition to Florida's more restrictive abortion laws. (Another area of slight convergence: Though Trump appointed conservatives to the Supreme Court who ultimately overturned Roe v. Wade and made Dobbs the law of the land, returning the issue to the states, he's not especially pro-life and tends to favor some lenience on first-trimester abortions.)

It remains to be seen whether Harris will embrace far-left economic policies—President Joe Biden's policies, just bigger—or whether she will try to downplay the economic populist agenda she's cobbled together. It remains to be seen whether Trump will be able to effectively sell himself as the candidate with working-class voters' best interests in mind vs. someone interested in petty ranting, settling scores, and putting his opponent down. Perhaps the most telling thing of all about tonight will be that the two politicians have less ideological distance between them than we might have hoped.

Scenes from New York: Readers of this newsletter will remember the scene at Columbia University's Hamilton Hall this past April, in which a mixture of anti-Israel students and outside agitators—full breakdown unknown—broke into and occupied the building. This week, Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg "announced the indictment of one of the most visible outsiders: James Carlson, a Brooklyn lawyer and activist, on charges of arson and criminal mischief," reports The New York Times. "Prosecutors said he ignited an Israeli flag with a lighter and destroyed a camera in jail. They say he also broke into a university building, for which he faces a separate case."

Carlson is 40 years old and "also among the anti-Israel protesters in January who wreaked havoc on the city by blocking traffic at the Holland Tunnel as well as the Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Williamsburg Bridges," a source told the New York Post. In San Francisco, back in 2005, he got in trouble with the law for marching against the Group of Eight (G8) summit (and capitalism writ large) and being part of a throng that ultimately cracked a cop's skull, nearly killing the man. He is the son of now-deceased millionaire ad execs and media reports claim that property records show him to be the owner of a posh multi-million-dollar Park Slope brownstone purchased in 2019.

I suppose sometimes your college-kid freedom fighters end up being middle-aged trust funders in the end; let's hope some consequences dissuade the man from continuing his illustrious rioting career.

QUICK HITS

  • "This is the Harris-Walz media strategy in a nutshell: Avoid the press at all costs, even when asked questions that should be layups," argues The New Republic. "The Democratic ticket, or perhaps those who advise them, seem to believe that nothing good can come from talking to the media—that answering questions only invites negative coverage of pseudo-scandals (like [Minnesota Gov. Tim] Walz relatives endorsing Trump) instead of the real issues at stake in November. If this sounds familiar, it's because President Biden employed the same media strategy in his reelection campaign. That didn't work out so well for him—and it may not for Harris, either."
  • Both Apple and Google just lost their court fights following European Union crackdowns on big tech companies. Google had challenged a fine for allegedly abusing its search engine dominance, while Ireland had given Apple preferential tax treatment that was undone by the courts.
  • "The Miami-Dade Police Department has opened an investigation into Sunday's traffic incident that's raised concerns about police use of force after the MDPD released video showing [Tyreek] Hill, who is Black, being dragged from his car and forced face-down on the ground," reports Axios.
  • The first private spacewalk is slated to happen over the next few days, courtesy of SpaceX and billionaire Jared Isaacman. It will occur as part of the Polaris Dawn mission, which took off from Florida early this morning.

That and the fact there is zero evidence. The evidence Carrol did submit was a dress that came out nearly a decade after the claimed assault. The judge also allowed other women who had no evidence and hadn't been adjudication to testify against rules of procedure. And even then the jury agreed she wasn't raped but the judge said they could change the word rape to assault.

As minuscule as the chances of it happening are, a couple criminal sentences handed down at the DOJ are appropriate.

Literally zero probability of it happening during a Harris administration.

        2. Red Rocks White Privilege   8 months ago

This is the state of the center-right these days. Remember, these are the same people who go on and on about how today's GOP is about identity and personality, and not about Ideas! or policies:

"You don't have to agree with Collin Allred on a single policy issue to grasp that a person like Ted Cruz cannot be trusted to defend the constitutional order."

What Allahpussy means here by "constitutional order" is, "anything that allows communism to happen at 40 mph rather than 100 mph."

What's particularly notable here is that these people are now openly dropping any pretense about being "the Remnant" who care more about promoting True and Honest Conservatism than simply "pwning the libs." Nick Catoggio, dumbshits like Patrick Frey and his ballwashers at Patterico, and hall monitors like Jonah Goldberg and Kevin Williamson are now admitting that it actually has nothing to do with policy, and everything to do with being the left's bottom bitches in the hopes they'll provide them with a few scraps from the political table. They mean "Country First" the same way the Red Guard did during the Cultural Revolution.

          1. Bill Dalasio   8 months ago

These guys are all prime example of what is wrong with Establishment Conservatism. It was pushed on the world by William F. Buckley and entailed the right making its peace with the Progressive Era and the managerial technocracy it gave rise to in the name of fighting the Soviets . I won't comment either way as to the advisability of that grand bargain at that time. I wasn't there to make that decision at that time. But, the Soviets were beaten more than thirty years ago. That was the time to return to America's foundations. But, establishment conservatism got their seat at the managerial-technocratic table. And they opted to continue their lucrative sinecures, trading perpetual war for a perpetual progressivism.

The rest of us were told we had to go along with it and STFD and STFU. These guys were the experts, donchaknow! Just ignore the perpetual failures.

            1. Red Rocks White Privilege   8 months ago

They admittedly had a good racket going for a long time, and still do in some areas. They never had to actually deliver on anything they promised, because they could always say, "well, look, at least we're not Democrats! If you don't vote for us, the Democrats will take over and get 100% of what they want!"

Like the script in Casino goes, "If they hadn't been so greedy, they would have been harder to spot. But in the end, they're all greedy." Once the party's voters started realizing that the neocons weren't actually running things competently or advancing a conservative agenda while in power, the break started happening. First with Iraq--regardless of why the invasion happened, it would have been less politically toxic in the end if the administration hadn't tried to make it into a western liberal democracy, and treated it like Panama (go in and get out) rather than Afghanistan.

What really accelerated the break was the GOPe getting McCain the nomination in 2008, coupled with the bank bailout of TARP. The party not only nominated someone that the base really didn't like all that much due to his thirst for asspats from the Democratic media, it then facilitated a ransom payment to the banks to cover for their own malfeseance, instead of sending these assholes to prison for securities fraud. After that, in the wake of Obamacare passing, they nominated Romney, who had passed a version of that prior to the federal law coming into play.

The GOPe getting behind Jeb while the base was increasingly pissed off about immigration was the final straw.

              1. Red Rocks White Privilege   8 months ago

Like I've mentioned before, the biggest issue with the GOPe and their mouthpieces like Jonah Goldberg is that they've always operated under a paradigm that assumed the left and the right shared the same values. It's why they were always going on about "well, just imagine if someone on the right did this!" every time the left gleefully ignored those boundaries to advance their own agenda. They never bothered trying to stop this from happening, they simply complained that it happened and moved on, accepting that the envelope had been moved further to the left and that was the new "normal". They never understood, or just simply ignored, the left's will to power and didn't have the stomach to act as a counter-revolutionary force at home. It's why they hold such a contradictory view about appealing to Reagan-era Americanism while denying that culture has any impact whatsoever on a nation's identity.

For the power brokers like the Cheneys or Bill Kristol, it was always for the purely venal purpose of using the Reagan movement to further enrich themselves, using American troops as meat shields to accomplish it.

                1. Bill Dalasio   8 months ago

They never understood, or just simply ignored, the left’s will to power and didn’t have the stomach to act as a counter-revolutionary force at home.

Or, as I suggested, they're fundamentally on the same side. Once you see the Buckleyan right as having fundamentally aligned itself with the ruling managerial technocracy, a lot more falls into place. Standing athwart history yelling stop (as opposed to, say, "This whole thing is a bloody disaster.") both fundamentally invests your audience in the managerial-technocratic status quo and pre-announces the whole project as an exercise in futility (inasmuch as it presupposes a directional history the world is evolving toward). In effect, it lulls an otherwise unwilling audience into broad compliance with the managerial technocracy. As I say above, you might be able to make the case that such a strategy was understandable in the face of the Soviet threat in the Cold War. But, of course, the Conservative Inc commentariat gained a lot of power, prestige and affluence playing that role. And has proven loathe to relinquish it in the wake of the collapse of the Soviet threat.

This is fun, from Stephen Green at PJM shows us media chemjeffery in action:

Harris support rises among some likely voters: POLL

if you thought they meant that's what happened in the latest poll... Well, you just might be a Sarcasmic.

"As previously reported, Kamala Harris leads Donald Trump by a slight 4 percentage points, 50-46%, among all adults and registered voters alike, and by 6 points, 52-46%, among likely voters in the latest ABC News/Ipsos poll. While those numbers are virtually identical, closer assessment shows movement to Harris in some groups when comparing all adults with likely voters -- notably, those younger than 40, younger women in particular and Black people.

"As previously reported" is doing an unconscionable amount of work in that sentence. ABC did not conduct "a new poll — though they are pretending — but a reanalysis of an old poll." The data comes from a poll "taken between August 23, the night Kamala Harris spoke at the Democratic National Convention, and — through the four days of post-convention media afterglow — August 27."

In other words, ABC News cherry-picked some data from an older poll taken during the height of DNC Kamalajoymania and reran it yesterday as fresh news.

    1. Idaho-Bob   8 months ago

In other words, ABC News cherry-picked some data…

That’s called “lying”. Maybe Harris will prosecute ABC for misinformation.

It remains to be seen whether Trump will be able to effectively sell himself as the candidate with working-class voters' best interests in mind vs. someone interested in petty ranting, settling scores, and putting his opponent down.

At this point either one of these rallies me equally.

Honestly, though, I think that Ms Wolfe is selling a false choice here. There is no reason Trump can't appear to be "Pro Working Class" while also putting Harris down. I think too many in the political-horse-race club seem to think that getting in the mud is always bad for candidates. But part of Trump's appeal was showing that he would fight for people that feel they have been taking it on the chin the last decade or two.

As far as I'm aware the piss crucifix was bought and paid for by the artist and was his property to store how he wants. This guy stole the flag he burnt.

It won a prize, he didn't get a grant to make it. The problem is the government giving out art prizes and grants at all, not the specifics of Piss Christ.

              It also got a grant.

The problem is the hypocrisy and double standards we’re seeing around religious imagery. Piss Christ got a grant but leave tire marks on a LGBTQQ2SMAP+ flag crosswalk and it’s a big fine or prison.

              3. Zeb   8 months ago

Well, Serano got a grant. The grant is the problem, not what he did with it (and I think the grant was after photographing piss christ. In any case, I'm pretty sure he could have taken a pic of a plastic crucifix in a jar of piss without it).

I think the people still freaking out 40 years later about a silly photo by an artist who got a modest grant from the NEA and the people who think skidmarks on a fucking crosswalk is a major crime are all being fucking idiots and I agree are motivated by similar impulses. But I don't think it's the best example to point out the hypocrisy you are talking about as the events are 40 years apart and cultural norms have changed a lot.

      Harris' Deceptive Ad Scandal
      https://reason.com/2024/08/14/harris-deceptive-ad-scandal/

That's the Harris campaign placing deceptive ads with Google, nothing to do with rigging algorithms.

      1. Mother's Lament   8 months ago

Nope. This is a whole new little ad scandal as per Google growth strategist Dakota Leazer, in undercover footage: “Leazer reveals that Google has been actively coordinating with the Kamala Harris campaign, manipulating its search engine advertisements to favor her in the 2024 election.”

The video is right there. Give it a watch.

        1. Quicktown Brix   8 months ago

Oh dear, is this another guy mouthing off on a date secret camera video?

It seems the same to me. He hints at other stuff, but the only specific claim is about the ads which seems pretty dubious given the previous reports.

Google is no doubt biased but I give this guy a 0 credibility score.

          1. Mother's Lament   8 months ago

            Why?
Why would the Google growth strategist lie about it on a date?

            1. Quicktown Brix   8 months ago

There are many reasons he might lie; to impress a date for one. But that’s not why I doubt his story. I doubt his story for the following reasons:

1 He says that Google was making the ads look like official news stories. This story was widely publicized that it was the Kamala campaign that did this. Google just displayed the ads.
2 He gives no specifics other than the above which seemingly he gets wrong.
3 He contradicts himself. He says Google has Dem bias, but then says they would do anything for a profit.
              4. He also attributes this plan to billionaires and Facebook, which his job at Google would give him no insight.
5 He said Google admitted it. So lets just accept what Google admitted and forget about the shady guy on hidden camera that may be nothing more than a peon for Google. What has Google admitted?

The Kennedy assassination and Watergate were both part of the same coup.

In his memoirs, Chuck Colson of Watergate fame said that Jimmy Carter told him with tears in his eyes that "they" wouldn't let him do anything he had planned to do as president before his election.

As charming as he was, and as much as I hate to admit it, Reagan was probably an establishment man, and the rest up to Trump certainly were.

      1. JesseAz (5-30 Banana Republic Day)   8 months ago

I think it was Tucker who mentioned all the Naval Intelligence connections to Watergate including Bernstein. If someone digs into the narrative it is clear it was another deep state coup.

        1. Mother's Lament   8 months ago

          And the CIA connections too.

First they got rid of Spiro Agnew on a dubious testimony of a guy who said he gave him a bribe, and replaced him with Deep State puppet Gerald Ford.

Then when Nixon started digging deeper into the military contracts – bang – Watergate. Which was peanuts compared to what Clinton, Bush and Obama did.

      2. Red Rocks White Privilege   8 months ago

Reagan wouldn't have even sniffed the White House if he wasn't tied to them to a certain extent. But remember that he wasn't fully a member of the club--the Buckley wing of the party thought they'd nerfed him in 1976 with their support of Ford, because they didn't expect someone of his age to continue pursuing the presidency.

When they realized they couldn't stop him from getting the nomination in 1980, they convinced him to take on one of his biggest center-right critics, Bush, as VP, the same way the GOPe convinced Trump to take on Pence. Bush was there to ensure Reagan didn't wander too far into the conservative populism that made him so popular, and that any American patriotism he expressed in speeches was done within the framework of "the US as the home of globalist democracy" rather than the unique culture and character that made the country what it was. That's how the 1986 amnesty ultimately happened, and why New World Order, End of History globalism became the establishment's new religion after the Warsaw Pact and Soviet Union collapsed.

        1. Red Rocks White Privilege   8 months ago

I highly suspect the reason the party establishment allowed Goldwater to be nominated in 1964 was because they knew there was no way in hell a Republican was going to beat LBJ in the wake of Kennedy's assassination, and decided to use him as a sacrificial lamb in an effort to nip the growing populism of the party's voters in the bud.

          1. Mother's Lament   8 months ago

"When they realized they couldn’t stop him from getting the nomination in 1980, they convinced him to take on one of his biggest center-right critics, Bush, as VP"

That makes a lot of sense.

            1. Red Rocks White Privilege   8 months ago

It’s why the neocons were always going on about the “three-legged stool” of Reagan-era conservatism, and their pathetic worship of politics as an amiable exercise rather than a street fight. The implication was that they were still the ones in charge of the party and that it would fall apart without them, regardless of whether Reagan actually delivered what he promised or not.

Their manic opposition to the Soviet Union was, in hindsight, clearly more about simply having an international bete noir to rail against to justify increased military spending, rather than opposition to communism itself. That’s why they so readily surrendered to cultural marxism here in the US, allowed it to become the de facto worldview of the globalist west, and uncritically quote marxist pundits if they’re complaining about Trump.

I’m not sure how old you are, but I know if you were alive you weren’t paying any attention.

“The Buckley Wing”?!? Reagan WAS the Buckley wing. WFB was far from an establishment Republican. He championed Goldwater and Reagan against the Rockefeller wing of Keynesians and libertines.

Honestly, you sound like a 30-something who thinks Buckley is synonymous with TNR’s Never-Trumpism if 2016. The National Review of 2016 is not the magazine he ran in the 1960s-1980s. It was the insurgency, not the establishment.

Ditto for Reagan and Bush Sr. Bush Sr didn’t keep Reagan on any reservation, he had no role in the administration.

          Just awful, ahistorical stupidity

          1. Red Rocks White Privilege   8 months ago

There's literally nothing ahistorical about it. The Buckleyites were terrified of Reagan and pushed Ford in 1976 and then Bush or Anderson in 1980.

National Review was never an "insurgency". It was started by a guy who marginalized social conservatives and American populists in favor of softer Yankees and midwesterners.

And stating that the ex-head of the CIA "had no role" in the administration is laughable on its face. His faction fully took over the fucking party in January 1989.

    2. Red Rocks White Privilege   8 months ago

Back when john was still commenting here, he made the observation that the Regime’s greatest fear was that Trump would end up proving that it doesn’t actually matter who’s in charge at the top, because the government is going to continue operating regardless.

What seems to have happened is that the Regime saw that they could manipulate the system whether a Republican or Democrat was President, it was just easier to do so with the latter as a figurehead. Hence, you have puddingbrain Biden as “Chief Executive” at the moment, to be closely followed by Kacklin’ Kammy, of whom the press noted up until July 2024 had several problems regarding staff management, public communication, and general competency that showed she wasn’t up to snuff for the big chair.

They know it doesn't matter who's at the top as long as they can keep the march towards the global managerial technocracy moving apace. The center-right realizes this too, which is why they’ve now abandoned any pretense of pretending to care about “issues” and are openly admitting the tribalism they always possessed, but decried in the people who weren’t letting them run the show as controlled opposition anymore.

The only thing this debate can do is show how incompetent Harris is. She'll spout word salads, cackle, forget things she was briefed on just an hour before, and generally look like a deer caught in headlights.

Their actual claimed policies are meaningless. Harris's sole real policy is to break current society as much as possible, because that's what successful leaders do. How many issues has she copied from Trump now, three? Blaming current tariffs on Trump after Biden has kept them going for 3.5 years and raised them is silly.

What really ought to be at issue in all these actions is the President having such power. No one wants to talk about that elephant in the room.

"But now, with rules just finalized to mute the candidates when their opponents speaks, campaign officials said Harris advisers are scrambling to rewrite their playbook.""

Of course, this is bullshit. Harris would have complained regardless. If the mic had been open, she would have complained that evil Trump was talking over her and mansplaining all the time. THE ENTIRE GOAL of the Harris campaign is to set expectations so low that so long as she doesn't shit the bed, everyone will declare that "The final doubts are erased, this is a person who can competently be president!"

The Harris plan is to let the media carry her to victory. She will be a petulant whiner and complainer throughout the debate, and the media will run with any storyline that her handlers provide. If Trump is polite, she will have cowed him into submission. If (more likely) he is his typical Trumpish self, they will talk about that serial abuser and how he treats women.

On the other side, all the sycophantic media is laying the groundwork for "Trump is as mentally incompetent as Biden." Boehm has been flogging that horse for the past week. If he shows any sign of fatigue, the headlines will write themselves.

The only thing Harris has going against her in this debate is herself. Just as Biden put forward a performance that couldn't be whitewashed by a protective media, Kamala could do the same. I think this is unlikely because her staff have done the same analysis and she will be there to play it safe. She will make statements that are vague and she will try to call out a bunch of factoids that the press will happily back up, with the overall goal of playing prevent defense.

the questions to Kamala will include the answer in the question as they always do for democrats while the questions for Trump will be full of accusations of criminality and racism

You're also going to see the moderators keep following up with Trump's answers saying he didn't address the question. In some cases it will be true (he did misdirect his answers to other talking points in the CNN debate), but you won't see ABC do the same when Kamala dodges the question and answers with some word salad.

I do wonder if ABC will go so far as to have the moderators "fact check" Trump during the debate. Probably.

The people featured are something else. DiAngelo is the big fish that he landed, but this caught my eye from the Daily Mail article on it.

They see wilting liberals kick Walsh out of a 'Grieving White Privilege' workshop, and a fancy dinner party where rich white women pay handsomely to hear their black host declare: 'This country is not worth saving.'
Walsh presents his DEI consultant subjects as charlatans.
The workshop host, Breeshia Wade, charged him $30,000 for the session.
      DiAngelo showed up for $15,000.

I highlighted that part because it's an elegant demonstration of what the left actually believes, and why their appeals to "unity" and "America" are always outright lies.

The people who aren't on their side are America. Their side is Not America. And it's important to remember that as the current polarization continues apace.

Breeshia Wade's worldview, incidentally, is as follows, from her own website:

But Breeshia Wade encourages those who are not Black to consider how their own unexplored grief amplifies the suffering of Black people.

This is the mania of the marxist left--"If you're not falling in with our phony baloney framing of ________, you're oppressing other people."

After Biden's debate performance ultimately led to him quitting in shame, I don't expect anything nearly as game-changing this time. (The media will probably declare Harris won the debate no matter what happens.)

I still think Harris is being underestimated by the analysts calling the election a tossup. Still expect her to retain all the states Biden won in 2020, or at worst let 1 or 2 smaller ones slip away which would still result in a narrow Democratic victory.

(Trump's tariffs would cause certain economic ruin, if imposed; but, of course, tariffs are woefully unsexy, so we'll see how much airtime such things get tonight.)

Buden-Harris called for even bugger tariffs. Weird that got left out. But I know. Koch owes China a great debt. Which cares they aren't actual free market actors and their theft and such costs are 10x greater than the tariffs. Those costs are fine.

      1. sarcasmic   8 months ago

Protective tariffs are the equivalent of a government imposing an embargo against its own people, which if done to another country is an act of war. Doesn’t matter if it’s Republicans or Democrats.

Now it’s your turn, tariff lover. If you possess a shred of honesty (which you do not) then you’ll say that Biden-Harris did a great job in continuing and expanding upon Trump’s tariffs. I condemned them for it (which you did not bookmark because that would be honest and go against your false narrative that I never criticize Democrats), but you were silent. An honest defender of tariffs would have said that was great. Let’s see you do it. Praise Biden-Harris for trade policies you defended under Trump. Policies you still defend, when Trump calls for them. Be honest. I don’t think you can. In fact I know you can’t. That’s because you judge everything based upon who, not what. And of course because you're a lying sack of shit.

        1. JesseAz (5-30 Banana Republic Day)   8 months ago

It amuses me to no end how many times I have to tell you which tariffs I defend, retaliatory ones. Like when Trump got China to Crack down on theft.

          https://www.cnbc.com/2020/01/16/us-china-trade-deal-intellectual-property-protection-benefits-beijing.html

This has to be the 10th time I’ve told you this. It was just a year ago you thought all tariffs were protective. Then you were unable to tell us which administration used zero tariffs.

How many times do I have to tell you I don’t like protective tariffs but have no problems with retaliatory? Because the theft you applaud is many times greater than the tariffs themselves and got action against that higher cost.

On top of that the tariffs you constantly cry about are 1/3rd of the costs of spending on illegal immigrants you constantly cheer.

You’re just so dishonest and dumb. Amuses me to no end sarc.

Even after giving you this link foe the 10th time you’ll be back here with the same lie.

You’ll also only continue to scream about tariffs while ignoring higher cost abuses to citizens whether it be regulatory policy or spending on illegal citizens. Because you’re a dumb unserious person whose only concern is defending democrats against Trump possibly winning.

          You’re pathetic buddy. Lol.

. I condemned them for it (which you did not bookmark because that would be honest and go against your false narrative that I never criticize Democrats),

I'm not sure what the "actual" is about. Gabbard quite publicly dropped her affiliation with the Democrats and became an independent (remember when Reason used to like those?). Of course, I'd ask exactly what positions has Gabbard actually changed that she's now just a "Fox News talking head" (By the way, does that moniker now apply to Kennedy? Kmele Foster? Matt Welch?). Say, what's it like hanging out with Dick Cheney now? Whatever you do, don't go hunting with him.

Remember when he claimed he hated them before asking Dick to treat him the way he treats 4 year old boys?

      3. Bertram Guilfoyle   8 months ago

Indeed, Trump’s cozy relationship with Russia was proven conclusively when he was caught on a hot mic describing his increased flexibility after the election.

it's because President Biden employed the same media strategy in his reelection campaign. That didn't work out so well for him

    ????

Seems to have actually worked out pretty well for him. But, of course, if your primary concern in a Presidential election is the outcome of a candidate's media strategy for themselves or their campaign, you're leaning pretty hard on the Statism to begin with.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe polls have shown that each progressively ramped up prosecution of Trump actually helped him with voters, not hurt him, because voters can see right through this shit.

Harris, as of this week, has populated her website with actual policy positions. We'll see now whether she can actually answer for them.

ha ha. Imagine thinking that she is somehow in charge of her campaign or her administration's plans and positions . Lol. LMAO even.

  57. jagjr   8 months ago

"Harris, as of this week, has populated her website with actual policy positions."

I've read them. in detail. repeatedly. they are not, as you claim, "policy positions". they are vague platitudes. & many of those don't hold up to even casual scrutiny. claiming CTC and EITC to be tax cuts rather than subsidy programs administered via taxation authorities is quite the stretch.
