A Very Tight Race
Plus: J.D. Vance shouldn't be near podcasts, Trump takes on marijuana laws, and more...

State of the race: In a polling update from this morning, Nate Silver reports that "[Vice President Kamala] Harris's odds have declined slightly over the past two weeks, as she's gone from roughly a 55/45 favorite to a 45/55 underdog." There are a few factors at play: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dropping out (helping former President Donald Trump), a subpar performance in Pennsylvania, and the Democratic National Convention (DNC) bump being a bit smaller than expected.
"Harris is, in fact, polling a bit better now than before the DNC—but only a bit better, with a 3.5-point lead in our national polling average as of Sunday versus 2.3 points before the convention," writes Silver. "The model's baseline expectation was a bounce of more like 2 points. By the model's logic, she's gone from a lead of 2.3 points to a convention-bounce adjusted lead of 1.5 points. That's not a game-changing difference, but it's enough to show up in the bottom line."
Silver makes the good point that, since June 28, there has not been a "normal" news cycle. Instead, we've had the DNC boost, the Biden dropping out news cycle, and the strangeness of the way in which Harris ascended. Given this, you could "ignore the polls entirely and calculate 'normal' based on other factors—what we call 'the fundamentals' around here. Our model's answer, based on the economy being about average and there being no true incumbent in the race, is that 'normal' means a tie in the popular vote but Democrats being underdogs in the Electoral College."
Meanwhile, new ABC News/Ipsos polling shows just how much a lead Harris maintains with women. "Among women, Harris leads by 13 points, 54%-41%," reports Axios, while "among men, former President Trump leads by 5 points, 51%-46% (not statistically significant)." The gender gap just keeps growing, in partisan affiliation and in this race's polling. Speaking of which…
Act normal challenge: A two-year-old video of Republican vice presidential contender J.D. Vance on the Moment of Truth podcast is making the rounds, in which he tries to explain the mindset of the woke: "Clearly this value set [focus on gender inequity] has made me a miserable person who can't have kids because I already passed the biological period when it was possible and I live in a 1,200 square foot apartment in New York and I pay $5,000 a month for it but I'm really better than these other people, what I'm gonna do is project my racial and gender sensitivities on the rest of them. And the reason that our society is broken is because these people don't think the exact way that I think, even though the way that I think has made me a miserable person, I just need to make more people think like that."
Like with so many Vance quotes, I think the point he's trying to make is a reasonable one—that sometimes woke people are engaged in self-justifying projection, and that sometimes parts of that worldview breed misery—but it's communicated in the least palatable, least generous way possible that just makes him look angry and hectoring. Other people's choices really aren't his problem. Also, it really shouldn't be the job of the vice presidential candidate to engage in armchair philosophizing on the political podcast circuit; he should probably be focused on messaging that appeals to the groups Team Trump is trying to win over.
But this is par for the course for Vance, who isn't exactly doing the best job on the campaign trail. But Trump ostensibly knew this when picking him, going for an ideological choice instead of a pragmatic one. He got what he wished for; the question is whether it will in any way help Trump seal up the election.
Scenes from New York: Bring back single-room occupancy (SRO) housing!
People who needed cheap housing in NYC used to be able to "rent a room" in an apartment building with shared kitchens, living rooms, etc.
But building this type of shared housing was outlawed in NYC decades ago.

QUICK HITS
- "After six Israeli hostages were found shot dead in a Gaza tunnel at the weekend, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did something he hadn't done in 11 months of war—he apologized to the bereaved families," reports Bloomberg. "The gesture was among signs the discovery may prove to be a turning point in Israel's long-running conflict with Hamas, after several months of inconclusive cease-fire negotiations. Hundreds of thousands of Israelis protested on Sunday to demand a truce with the Iran-backed group, while the main trade union called a strike that temporarily shut down banks, shopping malls and even the main airport on Monday morning."
- Trump wants marijuana laws that prohibit public consumption (but he's not necessarily opposed to legalizing it):

- "The U.S. government has seized an airplane linked to Nicolás Maduro, the leader of Venezuela, and brought it to Florida on Monday because it was bought in violation of U.S. sanctions, according to a Justice Department statement," reports The New York Times.

In a polling update from this morning, Nate Silver reports that "[Vice President Kamala] Harris's odds have declined slightly over the past two weeks..."
That means she's going to be president.
Most if it is probably bullshit propaganda propping Harris up to prep for a steal. Problem is, as she’s shown recently, whenever she opens her mouth, she demonstrates how she’s dumber than Shrike, and a full-blown fucking communist.
Why couldn't she rebel against her daddy like normal boomer kids?
Because then she couldn't get him to fuck her for favors.
Are the Harris’s into incest like the Bidens are? I wasn’t aware of that.
This. Fully manufactured media candidate and even they are struggling to make her look semi competent. They seem to be struggling more than they did with Biden.
Don't be so sure. Just like every idiot who will pay to see every Twilight and Harry Potter sequel and spin-off, plenty of Democrats already bought tickets for Obama IV: The Wicked Witch of the West.
Hell, Biden didn't need made media. He was chosen as the nominee in 2020 to keep out extremists the like of Harris, and then beat Trump because he'd caused a pandemic and several hurricanes.
Biden was at least smart enough (senile enough?) to keep his mouth shut. Kamala “Dumber than Shrike” Harris can’t even do that much. That’s why they’re struggling more.
I find 'national polling averages' about as useful as astrology.
IMO, it's more indicative of the pollsters than the population or the polls.
Nate knows he can't beat the "She's got a 75% chance of winning drum." for the next two months or people won't show up to the polls and he'll get lynched if she doesn't win.
So he's got to do the old "The market will rise, unless the indicators are weak and it falls, or it might do nothing at all." with his own, personal OpEd woven in and just break up the pieces between the news cycles.
Nate registered as a Republican [so he could vote against Trump in the 2016 primary]. So don't lay any partisan labels on him, man.
No. I still don't believe many swing voters who answer polls in favor of Harris will actually vote for her, and if they try to steal this one it'll lead to breakdown of law & order. And I don't mean like the temporary disturbances in 2020, I mean like where order will not be restored by that regime, ever. And it'll be dirty and ugly, as I've said: brother vs. sister, cat vs. dog, grandma vs. grampa, widespread use of poison and strangulation in bed, lots of mysterious disappearances & sudden deaths.
More fortification!
In the name of Democracy!

found a better spot for question
Well, in any case, the answer is 7.
Yep.
Anyone who believes Trump will be elected president hasn’t been paying attention, particularly in the last 3 months.
He will not be allowed to be president again, regardless of the vote. The fix was in the second they replaced Biden with Kamala. Even if she can’t win, she will get them close enough to fortify the election again.
Our republic is all but completely gone. I fear what happens this November. It’s not going to be pretty.
...and the strangeness of the way in which Harris ascended.
This will be her only enduring legacy.
She got to the top by going down.
And sometimes up and down.
And like Mega Maid, she’s gone from suck to blow.
Doesnt the saying “black dont crack” mean that blacks are the tightest race?
The first ever woman of color to lose a presidential election.
Glass ceiling broken!
J.D. Vance on the Moment of Truth podcast is making the rounds, in which he tries to explain the mindset of the woke
Seems on point to me. Maybe you should get out of your $5000/month 1200 sq ft appartment in NYC Liz.
These only seem to strike a nerve with the people reporting them.
Childless cat ladies is a thing; the Venn would overlap with carriers of NPR tote bags [saw a woman in an airport yesterday with cats on her tote bag].
A two-year-old video of Republican vice presidential contender J.D. Vance on the Moment of Truth podcast is making the rounds
Remember Cancel Culture? Cat Lady remembers Cancel Culture.
That’s a steal there. Must be rent controlled.
I don't know if it's good advice or not, but she does seem to be trying to constructively criticize and suggest how he might better appeal to potential swing voters.
This is how to "boaf sides" with aplomb, it's a total rip on Harris and her supporters, but with *plenty* of shade tossed at Trump and MAGA folks:
Kamala Harris and her new sidekick, Minnesota governor Tim Walz, have opened their vibes-based campaign with a faux-populist platform. Included in this are plans for a massive expansion of federal power, paying mortgages for homebuyers, raising corporate taxes and fixing grocery prices. It’s an agenda even leading Democratic economists, as well as conservative ones, lambast as impractical.
The right mistakenly paints these ideas as ‘socialist’. ‘Kamunist’ has become their new attack line. Last week, the ever-crazed Donald Trump posted a picture on X depicting her addressing something like a Stalin-era Communist Party congress. These memes may work on Goldwaterites in their eighties, but mean very little to most voters more than three decades after the fall of the USSR.
Although a few oligarchs, notably Elon Musk and venture capitalist Marc Andreessen, have hopped on the Trump train, Harris will easily win the money in Silicon Valley and Wall Street. Venture capitalists and tech CEOs were prominent among those who sent her an astounding $310million in July, twice what Trump raised that month and close to what he spent on his 2016 campaign. Some 100 VCs have already signed up to do battle for the new party leader.
This odd alchemy of the ‘left’ with some of the world’s most rapacious capitalists comes in part through the courtesy of Trump. His crude policy of tariff hikes wins few friends in business or among economists. He also alienates tech executives because of his aggressive stance on China, where many have major ties. China’s subsidies to manufacturers, by far the most in the world, may hurt American workers, but for tech executives and Wall Street investors, this is often good for their bottom line.
If the fortunes of working- and middle-class Americans continue to deteriorate, there may be a demand for a more robust, Sanders form of socialism. This could well include a massive tax on the super-wealthy.
Early signs of this more radical approach can be seen in left-wing attempts to build state-owned companies, ranging from grocery stores in Chicago to refineries in California. If similar proposals begin to impact Wall Street and Silicon Valley, Harris may find her biggest headache coming not from the much-demonised MAGA hordes, but from the very progressives now so giddy about her emergence. Across the world, capitalism is falling out of favour, notes one 2020 international survey. Even in the US, the majority of young people are embracing socialism as a better model.
Amid a ‘degrowth’ agenda that precludes upward mobility, Americans, like Europeans, would finally forgo ambition and decide that the best course is simply to ask Uncle Sam for more. Rising inequality and general fear of downward mobility have boosted support for expanded government and greater redistribution of wealth. This is at least the case among the young. Even some Trumpistas are speaking about ‘MAGA communism’.

Boaf sides think the other is evil
Boaf sides accuse the other of fascism
Boaf sides believe the other will be the end of the country
Boaf sides support New Deal social programs
Boaf sides don't care about deficits or debt
Boaf sides love the myth of American hegemony
Boaf sides love the myth of an "American dream"
Boaf sides mythologize American history
Boaf sides lean on school-yard insults
Boaf sides support candidates without integrity
Boaf sides enjoy the unquestioning support of a large and varied media ecology
Boaf sides' idiots HATE the "boaf sides" formulation because they're blind to reality
One side thinks the solution to all problems is more government
One side hates capitalism
One side always wants more taxes
One side has weaponized the security state and used it against us
One side has coopted education, academia, media, entertainment, tech, and Wall Street
One side has gone full retard with extreme social issue stances
One side embraces old and new Marxist ideals
One side already deployed government censorship
One side clearly wants to rule over a country stripped of liberty
But otherwise, sure boat sidze.
Both sides want more government.
Both sides support crony capitalism. Difference is the cronies.
Both sides increase spending, one increases the deficit more by pairing spending increases with tax cuts.
One side created the security state. It hasn't gotten around to using it. Yet.
You're right about institutions.
I've yet to see someone who cries about Marxism show that they understand what it means.
True about censorship.
Neither side cares much for liberty.
Otherwise, yes, the people you hate are worse. But not by much.
Vote for Chase!
"I’ve yet to see someone who cries about Marxism show that they understand what it means."
You use terms you don't understand daily.
One side cannot go one speech without hawking for gun control. People who want to disarm you, want to murder you. There are no historical exceptions.
There are no "both sides".
People who want to disarm you, want to murder you. There are no historical exceptions.
Britain's purge was indeed horrific. How many subjects were murdered?
Give them time. The Brits are imprisoning people for social media posts and speaking against trans ideology.
You have to disarm a populous before you can pull this shit.
You are not a student of history are you?
Goalposts go whoosh!
Learn what the fuck that mean's you little totalitarian shit.
So emotional so early. Could start a fire with the booze on your breath from all the Canadian maple whine you were sucking down last night.
Focus on the first 6 words.
I'm glad the fact that we call you drunky is starting to hit home. Maybe one day you'll try sobriety again, and then learn the actual meaning of things like 'goalposts', 'tu quoque' and 'strawman', and how to use them in a sentence.
Your gaslight is very dim.
Lol, and that isn't what gaslight means either. Admit it, you're fucking up on purpose, right?
Is sarc really trying to project other people as booze filled degenerates now? Lol.
The poor souse just doesn't have an original bone in his body.
Ignoring bad acts from the left seems to be your forte.
Not up to date on what’s happening in the UK I see. Not surprising.
"Britain’s purge was indeed horrific. How many subjects were murdered?"
This is always Sarc's slimy little goto for fallacious and not even specious reasoning. The fascism doesn't matter unless the death camps are in full swing.
By Sarc's argument the Wannsee Conference in 1942 didn't matter because the Nazi's were only TALKING about wiping out the Jewish race in death camps.
Sarcasmic has become evil, even if by accident.
And yet they act as if Trump has already put millions of dissenters into the camps.
As always, that's (D)ifferent.
By police or by peaceful immigrants? Are you paying any attention to what is actually happening? You are horrible.
Both sides increase spending, one increases the deficit more by pairing spending increases with tax cuts.
Lol. You continue with your tax cuts bad while ever showing a single time spending hasn’t increased even more with tax increases.
As for your retarded first assertion, one campaign is running on cutting government. To the point Biden and the deep state is trying to entrench the federal employees to make it so they can’t be fired. Biden last year pushed a new rule to make firing employees harder.
And you love the security state when used against your enemies.
And then your finisher, vote chase. You continue your ignorance on how government works. You decry the executive powers while ignoring they can't fix everything on their own, and in fact need help from Congress. This is your primary attack against Trump, that he didn't act as a dictator while calling him a dictator.
You, you, you.... all arguments against the person.
Poor sarc.
I would like an explanation for why the sarcasmic style-guide (no "you") doesn't apply to sarcasmic.
Pathological hypocrisy.
Notice he never actually refutes the statements.
He can’t. He’s too stupid, and devoid of facts. He’s also drunk.
Then don’t make stupid arguments like tax cuts adding to the deficit?
Unless tax cuts generate so much economic activity that the tax revenue from all that additional activity offsets the revenue lost from the cuts, or the tax cuts are accompanied by proportional cuts in spending, then tax cuts add to the deficit.
It's basic math. Like really basic.
Either way, all of Jesse's arguments are against me, not what I said. He doesn't argue that what I said is wrong. He argues that me as a person am wrong. It's all personal. That's why I don't bother to respond. He's a pig. And when you wrestle with pigs, you get dirty while the pig enjoys it. I'm not giving him a curly erection. Not doing it.
I’ve posted the Balance link enough times here to refute shrike. Every major tax cut in my lifetime has seen an increase in revenue. In fact, in that time span, revenue has only ever gone down due to economic issues and rebounds back higher than before. So it’s a horrible talking point that I would expect from Tony, not you.
And forgive me, but are those not your arguments? Because in his post, he’s not saying they’re wrong because they’re yours. He’s saying they are wrong and yours.
Every major tax cut in my lifetime has seen an increase in revenue.
Correlation is not causation. Revenue is going to increase anyway due to inflation and economic growth. Unless we're in a recession, the economy is growing.
And forgive me, but are those not your arguments?
He says I love the security state, that I don’t know how government works, and that my primary goal is to attack Trump. Those are all personal attacks, not refuting arguments. Why do you defend that cunt anyway?
Sarc, at one point you were smart enough to admit spending was the issue. But now you don't. Is ot because you have to justify Kamalas 5T tax plan?
If spending growth went to zero a year, deficits would reduce to zero in a decade. Or right about.
If tax cuts happen, you admit here revenue will still go up.
You're now a tax and spend liberal. Lol.
No tax increase has ever appeared without more spending right after.
Even I'm the Boehm model projection you were also being pro tax you failed to realize Kamalas spending was 2T more than Trumps.
You're a retarded pro tax leftist now. Lol.
Sarc, I’ve been posting here for a little over a decade. I’ve never seen you support the republicans ever. Unless it’s to back up someone like Kinzinger, or Cheney. You attack Trump, and bring Trumpinto almost every discussion. You also reflexively support democrats nearly 100% of the time.
We’re sick of your whining drunken bullshit. You track everyone else here then cry when we hit back. You are the epitome of a pussy. A weak piece of shit like you should probably just shut up if you can’t take the blow back.
More likely you’ll keep whining and crying like the little drunken shitweasel bitch you are.
"That’s why I don’t bother to respond. "
You respond to him constantly.
He reminds me of a line from Hellraiser 2.
“Oh Kirsty, so eager to play. So reluctant to admit it.”

sarcasmic....vote for Chase? Are you for real?
The sum total of Oliver's accomplishments would take about 15 seconds to describe. He is almost as unserious a candidate as Vermin Supreme. Team L can't expect popular support for that banana otherwise known as Chase.
He's still a million times better than either of the duopoly candidates.
Glad you think this. Believe it or not it's possible to disagree, for reasons that don't involve gay flags.
Don't you constantly go on and on about good faith arguing?
Problem is he can't describe why he is 1 million times better. Why he always resorts to claiming people hate him for being gay.
Sarc has yet to state how Chase will accomplish any of the bumper stickers on his website.
Sarc just loves empty suit intellectuals. Reminds him of himself.
What specific and actionable plan has Chase presented dumbass?
In fairness, Oliver has this in common with at least one of the other candidates.
Tell me how, sarcasmic. Tell me how the banana is better.
He already told you, he's a million times better. What more do you want?
I’ve yet to see Sarc properly understand much of anything. He clearly isn’t being beaten enough, and he won’t follow through on his drunken threats, so I cant do much to help him out.
Sure, if you think AOC is a representative member of all Democrats everywhere.
Here is something closer to the truth:
Both sides are eager to use government to solve problems that THEY think is important.
Both sides are fine with capitalism, until it makes them sad, then they trip all over themselves to regulate and strangle it to death
Both sides are fine with more taxes - one side wants more taxes now, the other side wants more taxes later when they push for tax cuts without spending cuts.
Both sides have weaponized the security state. Remember the Patriot Act?
Both sides think the other side "completely controls" the institutional power in this country. In reality, no one is really in control, and that is what makes both sides REALLY angry, because they want to be the ones totally in charge.
Both sides push for maximalist positions on their particular social issues, and if they don't win, push for retard level reactionary positions when they don't get their way.
Both sides embrace old and crusty ideas that no longer fully work in the modern era.
Both sides are fully comfortable with censorship, whether it be on social media or in the classroom.
Both sides declare their support for "liberty", but they redefine "liberty" to be either utilitarian in nature (Team Blue) or to be based on moral worth (Team Red), and not the libertarian version of the term.
“Both sides are eager to use government to solve problems that THEY think is important.”
Hitler that solving the “Jewish” problem was important. Lenin thought solving the “Kulak problem” was important.
Churchill on the other hand thought that solving the Nazi problem was important.
Both sides in meaningless when one side is horrible. Your side wants to end free speech, fuck and castrate children, a prosecute it’s political opponents. The other side is opposed to all those things.
It’s not same/same.
excellent response
You are a self-admitted Trump shill and so you lack the intellectual integrity to discuss any of this rationally. Of COURSE you are going to depict the other team as monstrously evil, because that is how you can drive votes to your team, by manipulating people out of fear. It's wrong and dishonest but that is what shills like you do.
Your team wants to force rape victims to give birth, your team wants to ban porn, and your team wants to use the power of the state to go after your political enemies. That is not hyperbole, that is what your team has actually said.
_One_ side wanted to restore the state’s (California’s) ability to discriminate against people on the basis of race or gender with Prop 16. As racial grifting is (D)epended-upon by (D)emocrats, the racist revanchism was on the ballot in 2020.
Fuck you and your “boaf sidez”.
"so you lack the intellectual integrity to discuss any of this rationally."
Probably you should take a look at whether or not overtly fifty-centing for the Democratic party while all the time insisting your not, counts as some of that 'integrity' you are trying to invoke.
Mr. Highly Rational Child Castrationist.
Jeffy truly is evil. If congressional democrats put forth a bill to strike down age of consent laws nationwide, he would unswervingly support them.
You calling anyone else a shill is hilarious you fatfuck pedophile neo Marxist. You’re the ultimate shill here. It’s starting to get bad for you, so you lash out.
Newsflash, it’s going to get a lot worse for you. Deservedly so.
I have not said it enough: he is a fifty-cent lollinonce fuckface.
Everyone is being far too nice to Jeffy. Myself included. We all need to be much less nice to him going forward.
And, obligatory reminder:
In November, there is a way for you to register your rejection and disgust for both teams, and to declare your support for someone who is genuinely better than either one on most issues of import. But, it does mean "settling" for a guy who waved a Pride flag at a parade. If you can overcome that, then you can reject both Team Blue and Team Red.
What if you are disgusted by Oliver as Hamas apologist, and don’t give a fuck about pride flags?
But, it does mean “settling” for a guy who waved a Pride flag at a parade. If you can overcome that, then you can reject both Team Blue and Team Red.
They can't.
Have you googled strawman yet?
Since I didn't vote for Libertarians Jorgensen or Gary Johnson (mainly for foreign policy reasons), does that mean they were flag waving gays?
No they can't, because they, just like the Team Blue "vibe election" crowd, value style over substance. They are going to throw away their votes by voting for someone for the stupidest shallowest reasons like "Trump pwns the libs and makes them cry!" instead of for intellectual reasons over policy.
It’s got all the trappings of a religion. Eden is early America right after the founding. The founders are saints and prophets. The Constitution is the holy script. Everything was great until the evil Progressives came. But now there is a Savior who will smite the Progressives, revive the old text, and bring us back to Eden! We must vote for Trump and Vance!
"The Constitution is the holy script. Everything was great until the evil Progressives came."
I have seen literally not one single poster here (besides you in straw spouting form) make an argument like this.
It is a common leftist narrative. Sarc is too retarded to understand he blindly repeats those narratives while crying about being called a leftist.
I mean the retard still uses google.com as his primary reference despite dozens of studies showing the left wing search results. He doesn't actually read the links though, just the link names.
Aw, how cute. Someone finally patted BG on the head.
Sarc, it would be nice if instead of the brain-dead comment above, you would do something to substantiate this as a typical view held by commenters here:
“The Constitution is the holy script. Everything was great until the evil Progressives came.”
Now sarc is stealing my head pat response to him jumping for Jeff?
Fuck man. So boring.
Did Jen Psaki tell you this?
Ironically this is one of the common stereotypes found on panels for MSNBC.
He’ll circle back around and let us know.
Is it possible to oppose Oliver for intellectual reasons?
For me, his apologia for Hamas rules him out. But since you and sarc are also Hamas apologists, I understand why he appeals to you.
Most of us have been clear.
He is an empty suit who slammed onto media praising hin for being a spoiler. He is an identitarian with no plans to push anything without Congress. He would literally accomplish nothing. He literally campaigned for Obama. There are strong rumors he was courted by DNC to run as a libertarian as a spoiler. Why he doesn't actually seem to understand libertarianism beyond bumper stickers.
He is an identitarian
It is YOUR TEAM which has projected the "identitarian" accusation onto him. In every interview or debate that I have seen with Chase, not once has he said anything remote like "you should vote for me because I'm gay". When he is ASKED about being a gay candidate, he of course says he's proud to be a gay man, but that's not the main reason why anyone should vote for him.
But you know that, and the real basis for your "identitarian" accusation is that he doesn't stuff himself back into the closet and completely hide his sexual orientation.
with no plans to push anything without Congress.
How is this bad? Do you want more of an imperial executive?
He literally campaigned for Obama.
Yes, in 2008, when Obama was the only anti-war candidate running (even the Libertarian candidate was not anti-war, he was the execrable Bob Barr). You are always complaining about how the anti-war Democrats from the Bush years were all a bunch of hypocrites when they supported Obama drone-striking citizens. Here is an example of a genuine anti-war Democrat who stuck to his principles and became a Libertarian because they are far more sincerely anti-war than Democrats are. So your criticism of him on this score is completely unfair.
There are strong rumors he was courted by DNC to run as a libertarian as a spoiler.
I find this hard to believe. What is the source for these "strong rumors"? Some random anonymous dude on Twitter? You can't just drop that in there without some basis for its validity.
So, worst case scenario - Chase gets elected and "nothing gets done". So you mean, no tax increases, no spending increases, no additional regulations, no new wars, no "creative interpretations" of the law to go after hated people? That doesn't sound too bad, actually. And that is the worst case. A much better case is that he persuades Congresscritters to go along with some compromise that enables more of a libertarian outcome.
"Yes, in 2008, when Obama was the only anti-war candidate running (even the Libertarian candidate was not anti-war, he was the execrable Bob Barr). "
So it was OK to *not* vote for a Libertarian candidate that didn't meet your requirements on one platform item?
“ Yes, in 2008, when Obama was the only anti-war candidate running”
And yet the big O dropped more bombs than George W. It’s pretty obvious for whom you ply your fifty-cent trade.
"Obama was the only anti-war candidate running"
^THIS IS WHAT CHEMJEFF ACTUALLY BELIEVES^
What JesseAZ said. This banana (Oliver) could not manage his way out of a room with open doors and signage pointing to the exit.
In my judgement, the LP nominee gets worse with every election. They peaked with Ron Paul (way back in ’88!) and it’s been downhill ever since.
Oliver is a complete joke - but he's got the sarcjeff vote, so hey!
Is this a you statement? Or does it not count because you said they?
The only people who rant about chase being gay is you and Jeff so you can ignore his identitarian streak and wanting government to favor certain subclasses.
I don't care if Oliver is gay. I care that he cares that he's gay and he desperately wants me to care that he's gay. Actually I don't even care about that.
It’s disturbing in that it shows how immature and unserious he is. Just like most of the current LP.
“But, it does mean “settling” for a guy who waved a Pride flag at a parade.”
This is just you and Sarckles most absolutely bestest, favoritist strawman ever.
Nobody. Nobody here has says they oppose Chase because he’s gay, but because you two lack arguments as to the actual reasons libertarians would oppose his nomination, you drag out your old lie and mount it on a pole and carry it like a flag into battle.
I almost wish I was a loser who bookmarked comments so I could bring up when your squad was calling him a pedo and a groomer because all gays are pedos and groomers.
As I have said elsewhere, I oppose Oliver for his lack of a serious foreign policy. His ideas re the middle east seem to be no more intelligent than any screaming college student.
People call him a pedo and a groomer because he supports porn in classrooms and castrating children, not because he likes the dink.
But you knew that, didn’t you, tardo.
First I heard of porno, and the other part is a flat out lie. But you knew that, Canadian day drinker.
"and the other part is a flat out lie"
You mean he doesn't support transing minors? You better tell him that, drunky. He's going to be shocked.
He opposes surgery on minors, contrary to your constant lies. Funny how you can't argue against anything without lying about it.
Sarc, why are the drugs he support called chemical castration drugs?
Fucking retard.
Oh no, Jesse. Those chemical castration drugs don't count because of reasons.
Hey buddy. The drugs he supports are called castration drugs for a fucking reason.
porn in classrooms
Ya know, porn is supposed to be material that is sexually arousing. So if you think that the 'controversial' material in classrooms is porn, that says more about you than you probably realize.
Hey ML, is a human anatomy textbook "porn"? How about the famous statue of David?
It wasn’t an “anatomy textbook” you disingenuous fuck, and you know that.
We gave you links to the images and books many times before, cartoons of children masturbating and a comic of a boy giving a blowjob to a man.
You absolutely know that none of it was just anatomy illustration or a marble man nude, but ‘positive’ depictions of prepubescent children engaged in sexual activity with each other and adults.
You’re so fucking rotten, dishonest and evil. What a vile creature you are.
‘positive’ depictions of prepubescent children engaged in sexual activity with each other and adults.
Were you turned on by it? I can see why you would consider it porn then.
Oh and you didn't answer the question. Is a human anatomy textbook "porn"?
One even had a QR grinder to download grindr.
Jeff is an open pedo though.
Jeffy, you’re a sophist and a liar. You should be made to suffer for what you post here. You also likely belong in prison for a myriad of crimes.
He is a _Fifty-cent lollinonce fuckface_, a phrase that combines his job with a portmanteau describing his avid predilections.
Ya know, porn is supposed to be material that is sexually arousing. So if you think that the ‘controversial’ material in classrooms is porn, that says more about you than you probably realize.
Now you're using a shaming tactic, as opposed to debating the issue he brought up. You could have argued that you don't find it inappropriate if it's just DRAWINGS of minor boys giving/receiving blowjobs/masterbating/etc (I vehemently disagree). But at least you'd be refuting that you find that to be "porn," and that's why you think ML is wrong.
But no, you imply that ML is turned on by that kind of material. You are engaging in an ad hominem fallacy. You've already been banging the drum of the strawman argument that everyone in the comments is opposed to Chase simply because he's gAaAaY! Are you capable of engaging in honest discourse?
(Also, are you saying that unless you PERSONALLY are aroused by a type of porn, that it's not porn? That, perhaps, is an even more inane definition than that of USSC Justice Potter Stewart!)
People like ML who accuse me of being a Nazi and a pedophile don't deserve the benefit of the doubt from me. Sorry not sorry that I said mean things about him.
Then quit supporting fascist policies and don’t constantly take the pro groomer position. Also, it isn’t a good look when your open border bullshit arguments allow known child sex predators to enter the US without restriction.
Those are your positions. So now you’re reaping the whirlwind. Don’t cry about it like a little bitch.
Hey sarc. Go do a search on threads about chase you retarded fuck. You won't though because your strawman is so precious.
I have better things to do than to search the comments on some internet site in order to prove an argument to some piece of shit liar who will simply deny it anyway.
"I have better things to do"
Cite?
I’ll give that to him, because it’s a subjective statement. From his perspective, getting blackout drunk, then passing out in the alley behind the bar and wallowing in a pool of his own urine and vomit (possibly feces too) is ‘something better to do’
Fifty-centing means never having to say you’re sorry.
No. You prefer your lies and strawman arguments. And simping for Jeff.
That’s not why they said that. (In sing song voice)
When he’s accused of being an identitarian homosexual, then that’s what it means. Because “identitarian” means identity politics, and identity politics means leftist. Leftist, gay identitarian then means someone who supports all the extremes of the culture war that the right screams about all the time. So yeah, that’s exactly why they said that. They're just too dishonest to admit it.
Calling him an identitarian because he plays identitarian politics is not homophobia.
Regardless of the identitarian smear, that’s not why they called him a groomer. They were very upfront and forthright that they vehemently disagree with his stance on transitioning and his stance on how some states/school boards have reacted to certain books in the school libraries.
Right. Except he doesn’t play identitarian politics, he opposes transition surgery for minors, and the hoopla about these books is no different than the moral panic about sex ed when I was growing up. It didn’t fuck up kids then, and it isn’t going to fuck them up now.
They people attacking him are putting words into his mouth saying he's for all these things when he's not, all because he's gay.
DesigNate, I thought you were better than this. When has Chase “played identitarian politics”? The only time that I can think of, that might possibly count, is Chase has said he thinks the LGBTQ community should be included under federal anti-discrimination protection. If that is what you are considering “identitarian politics” then IMO it is pretty weaksauce, it is a thoroughly mainstream idea and not exactly some radical woke leftist idea of “black-only dorms in college” or something.
Chase has never said "vote for me because I'm gay", he has never claimed to be some type of extra-special victim because of his sexual orientation, in fact he barely even mentions it at all, it is only when someone else brings up the subject does he even address it at all. If he is some type of radical identitarian then he is doing a very bad job of it.
It is *everyone else*, on the other hand, who makes a big deal of his sexual identity and how that is somehow a disqualifying factor, not necessarily because he loves men, but because THEY are the identitarians who judge gays to be automatically leftists.
And sarc either drunk himself into amnesia or lies about having been given and responding to the links showing chase supports laws for special groups.
Identitarian politics is politics that ignore the individuals and curates government power due to race, sexuality, gender, etc. DEI, ESG, race based contracting, California required percentages for race or gender on boards, etc.
Libertatianism at its heart doesn’t support identitarian politics. It supports individuals.
This is why I call you a leftist fuck. You openly support and lie about the lefts actions to defend them.
No group should be elevated through law or contract to be another group based on some common adjective of said group. You openly support this. Same with the pedo Jeff.
Your sex ed books showed minors giving head to adults?
Man the 60’s/70’s must have been wild.
Identitarian politics is politics that ignore the individuals and curates government power due to race, sexuality, gender, etc.
So by your standard, you are an identitarian because you want to curate government power due to an individual's immigration status.
Chase supports identitarian politics. You've been given the fucking links over and over you retarded lying shit.
I’ve seen you cover this at least 20 times since Oliver was nominated by the LP. Other have too. Every time Jeffy turns around and pretends it never happened, just like he does every time he’s discredited.
No, your team opposes him because (1) they don't actually want libertarian policies, they want culture war garbage; (2) they value style over substance, they want a candidate who makes them "feel good" over one who would actually enact libertarian policies; and/or (3) they think "gay" = "leftist", because it's actually YOUR team which are the identitarians, judging and condemning entire groups of people based on superficial characteristics.
You mean to say that gays are not all leftists? That immigrants are not all leftists? That politics isn't genetic? No way!
"You mean to say that gays are not all leftists?"
Another argument that no one has made.
Those 2 clowns can't help it at this point. They literally have nothing to offer in regards to an intelligent argument.
3) nope.
As an example, Douglas Murray is gay. His political analysis is pretty solid and he’s very intelligent. He also rarely brings up his homosexuality.
Not like Oliver.
Fuck off pedo.
I don't have to overcome that. That was never an issue. You're the only one who proclaims that it is and then projects that shit on everyone else. You're also the only one who has ever called Chase a "fag" on these pages (that I've ever seen).
That was never an issue.
Oh yes it was. Right after the convention, a whole bunch of people, including people like Dave Smith, used that as a reason not to support him. Dave Smith even said that he agrees with Chase on most policy issues, but he can't support him because of things like him waving a Pride flag and *voluntarily* wearing a mask during the pandemic, because to them, those activities were signaling Chase's "support for the left".
So to these idiots, the substance of policy is far less important than the superficial style of whether or not someone decides to wave a flag or wear a mask.
Odd. I don’t remember seeing Dave Smith here on any regular basis.
What I have seen here is you calling Oliver a “fag”.
Also, "I don’t have to overcome that. That was never an issue. " should have perhaps, for more specificity, said "I don’t have to overcome that. That was never an issue for me." Because the lack of that objective clause (I may be misremembering some grammar rules) seems to have sent you off on a tangent.
This is all you, you fat bitch. Stop lying. Of course, lying is all you’ve got, since you can’t really defend Olive on policy.
Oliver is a cheap empty suit. He’s about as libertarian as Boehm and Sullum.
“You’re also the only one who has ever called Chase a “fag” on these pages (that I’ve ever seen).”
In fairness, Sarcasmic is the only one I’ve seen do an imitation of the “gay lisp”. But it’s the rest of us, non-sarcjeffs who are homophobic.
All they have is projection and hypocrisy. They are not capable of self reflection.
Give Sarc a break on this subject. He’s really homophobic became off all the times the other hobos raped him after he passed out in his piss soaked alley behind the bar.
Oliver isn’t the best candidate. For many reason that have nothing to do with him being your gay crush. But you can’t really defend him, so you resort to shrill, baseless claims of homophobia.
Oliver sucks, and I mean that in the political sense.
Chase is gay? No way!
Lol. Is virtue signaling a competitive sport for you Jeff?
Boaf sides enjoy the unquestioning support of a large and varied media ecology
The rest of the shit you posted I can let slide, but this is utter bullshit. Traditional media, social media, Hollywood, and academia are in the bag for the Left, with very few exceptions.
One surmises CCC alludes to Fox, Newsmax, OANN, et al.
Pretty easy to scream both sides if you just make all terms mean everything.
Don't forget talk radio.
And curated algorithmic news sources from the Internet.
People like Jesse are walking examples of how one can live a life completely ensconced in a right-wing media bubble.
It’s funny how they scream and yell about all these news stories that aren’t being covered by the media, without any realization at all that they got those stories from the media. It’s as if the source doesn’t count as media if it covers anything they feel to be important.
Is "they" different than "you"?
He doesn't understand that changing from 2nd to 3rd person makes no difference. But, the real point is, none of his rules apply to himself.
A true Democrat to the core. It's always (D)ifferent for him.
Sarc is a drunken hypocrite, without a shred of accountability. Of course nothing applies to him.
The Right will happily trade talk radio for network news, Hollywood, the 90/% of all newspapers, et al.
Sarcasmic is such a moron. He didn't even think about it before he wrote it.
Boaf sides support New Deal social programs
Would add this as one side is defending protecting tax cuts, deregulation, and getting rid of departments.
Part of the issue is how big the GOPe is and allows the left to really push their views unchecked in Congress.
There are really 3 sides.
Democrats (with green party and communists who Pelosi showed are easily controlled.
Uni party (very few blue dog dems but majority of GOP that bows to the DNC and media criticism)
Conservatives (freedom Caucus and those trying to actually do what conservatives claim to stand for)
Three sides, maybe, but functionally two factions.
I disagree.
Pelosi was able to reign the squad in.
Reason and the GOPe have constantly decided the Freedom Caucus members for actually trying to do things like cut spending.
LOL, Trump has said over and over again that he won't touch the gigantic New Deal entitlement of Social Security.
Conservatives (freedom Caucus and those trying to actually do what conservatives claim to stand for)
Where are these? Most of the Freedom Caucus morons are closer to people like Vance, who are NOT conservative. They don't even call themselves "conservative", but instead "counter-revolutionaries". People like Vance want the government to nationalize private foundations that he doesn't like, wants to use the weapons of the government against his perceived enemies - that is not conservative, that is reactionary authoritarianism.
The people who are genuinely "conservative" are people like the Never Trumpers that you and your ilk hate with a passion, because they recognized early on that Trump is not a conservative, never was, and they remained true to their principles.
People like Vance want the government to nationalize private foundations that he doesn’t like, wants to use the weapons of the government against his perceived enemies – that is not conservative, that is reactionary authoritarianism.
Look! Over there! Democrats! Look at what they're doing! Look away! I said look away over there at the Democrats! Over there! Look!
They're not conservative because they are not preserving the current culture or current government policies.
They're also not conservatives because instead of dismantling the progressive administrative state, they want to weaponize it. It's ok though. Democrats did it first. That makes anything ok.
Actually, it does.
Changes do not get made until the pain hits all people.
They need to feel the pain. Hard.
Sounds to me like a petty excuse for revenge.
Sounds to me like protecting the group that made the rules from the results of their rules, but YMMV.
Because protecting the left is the only reason to oppose the right weaponizing the administrative state. Sure dood.
I said Team Trump is not conservative because conservatives seek to dismantle the administrative state. By embracing the administrative state as a weapon, Team Trump is no different than the progressives. But that’s ok, right? I mean, if they don’t become progressives then they can’t get revenge on the progressives. Can't fight what you hate unless you become what you hate.
Sounds to me like you're fine with it as long as it is one way. You cry more about equal protection under the law than even daring or admitting to Democrats corrupting the law and having weaponized it.
Please. Tell us how Joe didn't commit a crime regarding classified documents again because it was (D)ifferent. Please tell us again how those 800 J6 prisoners who committed no violence deserved years in jail. Tell us again how Babbit deserved to be shot. Tell us again how Trump is a criminal and deserves the use of novel theories against him.
Which conservatives are those sarc? You attack all the ones currently in office who want to dismantle the bureaucratic state.
Hardly anyone needs convincing that:
Chinny chin chin.
Is.
Full.
Of.
Shit.
FOAD, asshole.
I'm glad capitalism is falling out of favor. I just hope that's because of support for free enterprise.
Narrator after browsing Reddit for 5 minutes: it was not.
Reddit makes sarc and Jeff look like conservatives. What a cess pool.
This country should be cleansed of all the Marxists.
"Clearly this value set [focus on gender inequity] has made me a miserable person who can't have kids because I already passed the biological period when it was possible and I live in a 1,200 square foot apartment in New York and I pay $5,000 a month for it but I'm really better than these other people, what I'm gonna do is project my racial and gender sensitivities on the rest of them. And the reason that our society is broken is because these people don't think the exact way that I think, even though the way that I think has made me a miserable person, I just need to make more people think like that."
Reason Commentator Board Fact Check Assessment: True! (and Funny)
Excuse me, fact check false. A quick look on appartments. Com I’m finding 5k buys you about 800 to 900 Sq ft in new york. If you want 1200 your looking at 6k to 7k
This prove Vance and all Republicans are liars!
(am I being a reason writer correctly?)
He made the comment 2 years ago so probably true in the historical context.
Two years/weeks ago, the CDC said you didn't have to pay rent.
Ever hear of NYC rent control laws?
Do try to keep up.
Two years of Bidenomics inflation?
Plus two years with influx of massive numbers of illegals……
https://nypost.com/2024/09/02/us-news/migrants-flooding-nycs-justice-system-making-up-75-of-arrests-in-midtown-as-pathetic-sanctuary-city-laws-handcuff-cops/
“Across New York, recently arrived migrants are flooding the criminal justice system — at far higher rates than public officials have acknowledged.
Police sources shared with The Post a staggering estimate that as many as 75% of the people they’ve been arresting in Midtown Manhattan in recent months for crimes like assault, robbery and domestic violence are migrants. In parts of Queens, the figure is more than 60%, sources there estimate.
On any given day, Big Apple criminal court dockets are packed with asylum seekers who have run afoul of the law.”
Another Harris success story! Pedo Jeffy and Sarc approve!
Send them more immigrants. Plenty of Asylum available.
"Like with so many Vance quotes, I think the point he's trying to make is a reasonable one—that sometimes woke people are engaged in self-justifying projection, and that sometimes parts of that worldview breed misery..."
Should have stopped right there, because it's 100% true, and no equivocation is needed.
And also, what the fuck is problem with a candidate sitting down on a podcast and being candid about their world-views? Even if I disagree with Vance about a great deal of things, I find it more endearing than someone like Kamala who doesn't seem to have a worldview. Maybe if I listened to Vance for a while I'd find it very tiresome since it's still just a list of talking points about the problem the "other side," has, like any podcast of leftists accusing everyone to the right of them of being racist and misogynist.
I still find it preferable for politicians to actually engage with people in a more casual manner rather than project false images of themselves and spout empty platitudes.
My favorite part is where Vance lays out how many of the ills of modern society are because we're all hectored by childless cat ladies and, once again, Liz jumps to the defense of childless cat ladies *against Vance's hectoring*.
Like Hindu-wife, Hillbilly Elegy, 3-kid hectoring *VP* is what's really going to torture people and keep them locked in their homes, childless and afraid.
You would think the bigger "scandal" would be what Kamala has said on video when she was last running for president (2019-2020 running for Dem nomination). She has flipped on a bunch of key positions now that she is the nominee, indicating she's probably not serious and will likely go back to supporting decriminalizing illegal border crossing, banning fracking, giving paid healthcare to illegals, etc. But no. To Reason and Liz, it's much worse that Vance, before he was ever the running mate, and sometimes even before he was even a senator, complained about childless cat ladies.
Hell, good luck getting Kacklin' Kammy to sit down for anything that isn't a total t-ball interview.
She can’t even handle those. Even with Tiananmen/Tampon/Traitor Tim holding her hand.
J.D. Vance is "angry and hectoring" for criticizing the sanctimonious, neurotic Leftists who viscerally hate everyone who disagrees with their worldview. Vance perhaps gets that pushback because so much of the news media fall into that demographic.
They built and stocked those safe-space rooms, so they might as well use them.
I know....JD Vance really did nail it. And it was funny.
I hope he is just as sharp witted and sharp tongued during his debate with the avuncular gaffe machine, Tampon Timmy.
Isn't Tiananmen Timmy now?
"the Democratic National Convention (DNC) bump being a bit smaller than expected."
They expected *some* bump, but many sources seem to indicate there has been zero bump.
Hunter Biden most affected from lack of bump.
More like a baby bump?
Many leftist sources, no less.
"Bring back single-room occupancy (SRO) housing!"
Who doesn't want to live like a college student (or resident of Havana) forever?
I believe they are called boarding houses, and use to be quite common. Hell I have lived in one. Of that's the arrangement people want why should the give get in the way?
Until that is the only officially permitted housing, as proscribed by the penthouse elite.
They can be quite useful temporary situations for a lot of people, though. Not really worse than living with several roommates whom you don't know well.
Roommates are really only an option if you are in your 20's - and you've lived in the town for some amount of time. Enough to have settled into a job, know the town, and are ready to spend money on furniture.
I lived that way in my 20s. Seems like I was having the time of my life. Also rented rooms with a shared bathroom. Worked out fine.
SRO's and boarding houses were the easiest way to move from city to city when I first left home and college - and even then they were dying off fast. Mobility - not the white picket fence - was what enabled the American dream for its entire history. Mobility is what made it possible to grab opportunity rather than waiting for it to come to you. It is boarding houses that made mobility possible. 25-30% of the housing stock in pretty much all cities and towns was boarding houses up until WW1 or so.
No matter who you were every boarding house had its tenant specialties. That's the way you could start your social network easily in your new city - long before it became necessary to buy furniture/etc.
Now those don't even exist anymore. It is no accident that mobility is also at all-time lows (the covid bump was fucking nothing compared to what used to be regular). What remains of mobility is overwhelmingly just local moves when rental leases run out. In the 70's, 40% of 20-24 year olds moved every year - some local but many longer distance for jobs. Now its less than 25%. Among 30-40 year olds, it used to be that 30% or so moved each year - now its about 12%. Longer distance mobility (which is mostly job related rather than housing related) used to be 5-8% per year before WW2 - now it's 1%.
With no ability any more for Americans to move easily from place to place - whatever economic opportunity is available in a different part of the country is now only open to newer immigrants (with all the sleaziness of employers exploiting that).
It's almost a road to serfdom.
The other advantages to boarding houses and rented rooms is it gave widows and the elderly a way to earn a living and keep their property. This was very common when I was growing up 50 years ago. These were generally short term rentals without leases and large deposits and, as you describe, gave people the opportunity to find their best options without committing to permanent residency.
Good luck to that, with all the protections for "squatters rights" making it a months-long or more endeavor to remove someone living on your property--and not even paying rent.
Yeah true. Things are not what they were.
Boarding houses did not go out of business because the boarders were the problem. They were regulated out of business by the neighbors. That's been the case for 100 years. Boarding houses attract a diverse clientele. Single family zoning regs started in order to require everyone to be a white nuclear family.
Lol. White people are terrible, j.
I think you hit the nail on the head pretty well here.
'Like with so many Vance quotes, I think the point he's trying to make is a reasonable one—that sometimes woke people are engaged in self-justifying projection, and that sometimes parts of that worldview breed misery—but it's communicated in the least palatable, least generous way possible that just makes him look angry and hectoring. Other people's choices really aren't his problem. Also, it really shouldn't be the job of the vice presidential candidate to engage in armchair philosophizing on the political podcast circuit; he should probably be focused on messaging that appeals to the groups Team Trump is trying to win over.'
Sure, let's hope for more standard US politician bullshit speak, and never, ever support some guy who might be rude but can frankly state the truth.
Other people’s choices really aren’t his problem.
His point was the woke crowd is forcing their choices on everybody else. Something Liz is either missing or approving.
Concur. They want this forced via government.
Well here is my problem with that argument from Liz. Of course it isn't the job of Vance to do that. And had he done that as Vice President Candidate, her point would stand.
But he said this 2 fucking years ago. You know...before he was VP Candidate.
It is getting a little tired to see EVERY criticism of Vance from this site just reacting to whatever years-old oppo research the Dems could get to trend on X. Unlike Harris, Vance is out there giving interviews and making speeches constantly. How about we react to something that he said RIGHT NOW, instead of bringing up quotes on some obscure pod-cast in antiquity.
^
. . . and at the same time, Kween Kamala's unchanging values only date from 2020. She never said anything or had a position before that.
"A tight race?"
Seriously?
No sane person is going to vote for Comrade Kamala, price controls, rent control and other failed and other stupid ideas she has...well, maybe except for the usual suspect of useful idiots on the far left.
She came out against free speech to Jake Tapper, but keep Vance away from podcasts.
Everyone in America should watch the short clip in the link.
“Jake Tapper looks genuinely dumbfounded that this could possibly be her actual position.”
Do you have any idea how many "Americans" support speech bans?
Too many of them, just as too many support gun control laws and warrantless searches.
Yes, but they pretend they aren’t, and they aren't running for president like this moron.
0. Those people aren't Americans, and should be deported
Yes, and Berkeley Law Professor promotes rewriting the U.S. constitution and MSNBC ran with it right away. I also wonder if Reason will pick up on Brazil banning X because a democratically elected senator was not banned from the site. In addition freezing and seizing Musks space X assets.
Anyhoo, here’s the framework for the rewrite of the constitution.
https://www.latimes.com/opinion/story/2024-08-23/constitution-undemocratic-amendments-rewrite
Boaf sides are the same!!!1!1!!!
Trump just has to let her talk; I am hopeful that there are enough voters who realize how wrong she is and reject this mentality.
Those whose religion centers on child sacrifice will always vote for the party of baby killing.
"Also, it really shouldn't be the job of the vice presidential candidate to engage in armchair philosophizing on the political podcast circuit"
"A two-year-old video of Republican vice presidential contender J.D. Vance on the Moment of Truth podcast"
According to you Liz it was a two-year old podcast. Which is about 2 years before he became the VP candidate. What's the beef here?
Yep we need to avoid learning about the philosophies of those we elect.
Hey that's what all the kamala votes think too!
I much prefer to vote for the good guy/gal/they/them. Tell me who I should vote for, and I'll quit listening to the bad guy/gal/they/them.
I was going to point that out also. Have to wonder if Reason editors actually read this stuff before they publish it. It's pretty obvious that KMW has mandated daily Vance bashing no matter how weak the story. And Liz has to pay for her 1200 square feet in NYC so she's doing her best here.
There is so many more skeletons in the Waltz closet, but the stories about Vance are just weird. Most people in libertarian circles and noted the same problems Vance has. While libertines and liberaltarians promote those issues.
The beef?
Trump.
It is always Trump on this site.
Nothing else ever happens except Trump is causing a bad thing.
I guess we think Vance should go back in time to prevent himself from going on a podcast two years ago since his VP candicacy is retroactive?
Now by Hanlon's Razor should we assume stupidity rather than maliciousness on Liz Wolfe's part for mischaracterizing when Vance made those remarks?
In her case, that might be right. I think she is somewhat unintentionally conflating this being in the news currently with the statement being contemporary. I'm glad that she gives the amount of pushback that she does, but ultimately she still lives in a deep blue district and that dulls what might otherwise be solid inclinations.
'Hundreds of thousands of Israelis protested on Sunday to demand a truce with the Iran-backed group, while the main trade union called a strike that temporarily shut down banks, shopping malls and even the main airport on Monday morning.'
Or most of the protestors did what they were told good leftists should do, following the instructions of socialist labor unions who don't really give a shit about current and future hostages.
Meanwhile, new ABC News/Ipsos polling shows just how much a lead Harris maintains with women.
Their husbands need to get this under control.
The purple-haired husbands that are built like oversized oil drums and have innie penises do seem to have their wives under control.
As soon as they recover from their free vasectomies.

Are you sure you aren't confusing loading a dishwasher with driving?
>>only men know how to load a dishwasher correctly
mme. dillinger's applied math degree included neither the science of convection drying nor essays on why wet dishes on top of dry is a moral abomination.
Loading the dishwasher is dead simple.
"Honey, load the dishwasher, please".

It like he's trying to win a GOP primary and not the general election.
It's a shame Vance didn't travel back in time and not say this, because otherwise Trump/Vance would have carried the woke and NYC vote. Yeah, That's it. That's the ticket.
I can imagine the "Cat Ladies for J.D." fan club.
They were the key demographic that got Garfield elected.
Cat ladies were a thing in 1880?
Sure, but we called them witches then.

Can we tax unrealized global warming?
Doesn't that describe the carbon tax? Then yes. Yes we can.
Friend, please dont give the democrats any ideas on new taxes, the answer will always, without fail, be "yes thats actually a great idea!"
Small quibble.

No, they're definitely human, they're just not well.

Re: SROs
NYC got what NYC wanted...
"From 1955 onward, the city made laws to restrict the construction of new SROs, and in the 1970s began offering tax breaks to landlords to demolish them or convert them into almost anything else, especially upscale apartments or boutique hotels for tourists. Between 1976 and 1981 those incentives resulted in the loss of “nearly two-thirds of all remaining SRO units” according to the CUNY report."

Here we go, ML's and Jesse's (and Vance's) model for sex/sexuality education in the US: Paraguay
https://apnews.com/article/paraguay-sexed-lgbtq-curriculum-teen-pregnancy-evangelical-eu-culture-wars-ec1ea559417e2cd7b6ee852550ee9efd
Some highlights:
- Discussion of sexual identity in the classroom is completely banned
- Female puberty is "the body preparing to become a wife and a mother"
- Girls should beware of “how their way of dressing makes men behave.”
- “Men conquer, not seduce”
- Women can't get pregnant "the first time"
- Sex is "God's invention for married people"
Oh, and abortion is punishable with prison time, with the sole exception being to save the life of the mother.
Remember when you posted about 17 of these "Jesse's world" links, and accidentally showed a trend of gays being attacked by immigrants?
Jeff isn’t the brightest.
Maybe I should link the 16 time deported illegal who committed vehicle manslaughter and got under a year.
Jeffy appears to be steadily losing it. He’s gotten much more nasty and shrill lately. Too much bad news for his democrats.
Let’s keep up the pressure.
Hey, since you're now in a "fair and balanced" bullshit phase, please list the equivalent progressive sex ed highlights.
The horror.
Why should a US citizen care.
Why do you think the government should be teaching anything, much less sex education, in the first place?
Build the Wall!?
- Call me crazy, but I don’t think we should be putting a lot of emphasis on ANY identity in public schools.
- female puberty is literally the kick off to preparing a woman’s body to conceive, carry, and feed another human. This is biological reality so I don’t see why you think that’s controversial. (Puberty preparing you to be a wife, not so much.)
- the rest of those are pretty fucking stupid
– Discussion of sexual identity in the classroom is completely banned
Hard agree. This is a home topic, shouldnt be anywhere near schools. Sex ed should be informative of the biology of pregnancy and how it happens, to potentially teach kids there are consequences to sticking your dick in people, before they start doing it. If the school is involved at all, this should be the limit, a biology lesson.
– Female puberty is “the body preparing to become a wife and a mother”
What’s your argument here?
– Girls should beware of “how their way of dressing makes men behave.”
From a moral perspective, not great. From a pragmatic perspective, useful. Or would you tell your daughter its a good idea to walk around skid row in a pair of assless chaps to prove to the patriarchy how empowered she is, dont worry about the raping that will probably happen to her?
So I mean, sounds like they are on a pretty good track with some of it!
"After six Israeli hostages were found shot dead in a Gaza tunnel at the weekend"
Remember when Kamala Harris warned Israel that there would be consequences if the IDF went into Rafa?
"We have been clear in multiple conversations and in every way that any major military operation in Rafah would be a huge mistake," Harris told ABC News' Senior Congressional Correspondent Rachel Scott in part of the interview that aired Sunday on "This Week."
"Let me tell you something: I have studied the maps. There's nowhere for those folks to go," Harris said.
"Well, we're going to take it one step at a time, but we've been very clear in terms of our perspective on whether or not that should happen," Harris said.
Scott followed up: "Are you ruling out that there would be consequences from the United States?"
"I am ruling out nothing," Harris replied.
"What are you willing to try?" proposed Willie Brown.
“I am ruling out nothing,” Harris replied.
POTUS Biden and VP Harris' combined incompetence and weakness are partly responsible for dead American hostages. They are weak empty vessels, and nobody fears them. They mock them. And kill Americans.
I can't think of a worse way to rent a building than to have SRO tenants. Problem tenants with communal bathrooms, and if you want to convert the units to anything else the SRO tenants will do everything they can to extract value from you as if they own the units. The city will have public advocates fighting you on their behalf every step of the way.
If you're going to go that route as an owner you've got to have a really high pain threshold, and a really callous attitude toward the people who'd be renting from you. The latter will come naturally after a few years, so there's that silver lining.
Agree. SRO's were always the step above homeless and rent-by-the-hour brothels.
Course that's why those were all destroyed and turned into condos and such. Eliminate 200 SRO units and replace with 40 condos.
a really callous attitude toward the people who’d be renting from you.
You need to have that regardless of what type of tenant you're renting to, to make money as a landlord. If you're not willing to evict a recently widowed tenant and her children on Christmas Eve because they're behind on the rent, it's not the right investment for you.

Doomsday-Ready Property North of Lake Tahoe to Hit the Market for $8 Million
The Sierraville, California, compound is self-sufficient, with 72 solar panels, a well and enough propane to run the property for up to three years
Located in Sierraville, California, the home sits on more than 10 acres of secluded land—about 8 miles from the nearest road, where a Suburban SUV with snow tracks (included with the sale) sits in a parking lot. The property can also be accessed by snowmobile or helicopter—it’s a quick flight from the Truckee Tahoe Airport.
Eric Ethans, co-founder of the cold-pressed juice brand Suja Organic, bought the property in 2021 for $988,000, property records show. It was already an off-grid property, but Ethans said it wasn’t functional.
“I went through and redid everything, from the well to the waterline to the electricity,” he said. “I wanted it to be a sustainable off-grid compound that doesn’t need many outside resources.”

And in a doomsday scenario, it's good to have solar panels that are completely self-sufficient and don't rely on specialized batteries made from rare minerals to store energy. But good on him for storing up propane.
"Enough propane for three years"
Enough for what?
No way it's for running a Generac. One gallon per hour is typical.
No mention of heating. Is wood burning legal in California?

Robert "Oompa Loompa" Reich promotes left-wing "liberating tolerance":
Regulators around the world should threaten Musk with arrest if he doesn’t stop disseminating lies and hate on X.
This kind of thinking demonstrates just how brain-broke Trump's election and COVID made the left-liberal ruling classes the last 8 years. The more people push back against their project to create a globalist technocratic diversity regime, the more manic they get in trying to suppress anything which is seen as criticism of their political theology. It's the inevitable result of Marcuse's "Repressive Tolerance" essay made manifest, no matter how much the chemtards of the west try to deflect from it by claiming "this isn't happening," or "ok, it's happening, but it's not that widespread and what does it matter to you anyway?"
And the more manic they get, the more resistance they're going to create in the process, and the more suppressive they're going to react to try and destroy anything which pushes back against their dumb Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communist dreams.
kamala's treasury secretary? ... reich is the only person I have seen consistently push price controls
It's amazing how consistently awful and wrong he manages to be.
Bottom line here is that western regimes (as well as third world nations like Brazil) and their leaders are now inherently totalitarian institutions that are openly stating that they will destroy any form of political resistance or criticism from the right, or from left-wing apostates who are horrified at their adoption of censorship as virtue.
It's also becoming increasingly clear that they want to provoke a violent reactionary response to their suppression, because they think they'll be able to destroy their political enemies once and for all. Civil war in the west is inevitable.
They're right. It is no longer possible for a popular uprising to defeat a modern techno-state. Once they've killed or disarmed all the rebels, the long, dark night of totalitarianism will descend.
Bradbury's mechanical hound is up and running.
I wonder how many progressives were always at least suspicious of the classic liberal ethic. Sure, true Marxists and other post-moderns were always dedicated authoritarians, and often not shy about it. But some of the current censors had to come from the activists marching for free speech in the 20th century. Were they bullshitting us then, or have they become more desperate--or more ruthless?
They were bullshitting. Appealing to free speech was always a means to subvert the existing classical liberal order and implement communism. Again, read "Repressive Tolerance"--Marcuse, who was the godfather of the New Left, openly stated that censorship of anyone who wasn't on his side was justified. These people may not be fully cognizant of the connection, but the philosophical foundation is one and the same.
Marcuse's arguments have gotten enough attention recently that commie academics (but i repeat myself) like David Ingram are creating "I know you are but what am I" arguments to deflect from their support of censorship of their political enemies.
counsel for Oompa Loompas on line 2 says desist equating them to those nasty trolls like Reich.
That's something I've wondered about for the past quarter century. It's part of a more general ponderance I've had as to how moderate moderate reformers of any kind really are: whether they'd pull back if it appeared things were going (or had to go) too far, or would press to the extreme if moderate measures didn't produce the results they anticipated.
As to the free speech movement, it may be that they simply never imagined a situation in which they'd have censorship power, or it may be that they deliberately hid their desires in the hope of achieving them by popular means. It's likely that some people of each type were part of it, but I can't gauge the ratio.
I haven't thought about Reich since I stopped listening to NPR years ago. But then he pops up with this completely uncharacteristic and surprising take. I mean, bowf sidez, amirite?
Did you ever use to listen to the commentaries he did together with Barry Bluestone?
OMG Trump doesn't want pot smoking in public, i'm all for this considering how many people think its okay now to smoke pot anywhere now but not cigarettes. I'd rather have cigarette smoke than pot smoke.
Why not both?
I find it a little funny people getting bent out of shape about a smell they don't like in cities that smell like piss and rotting garbage.
Yeah, but my pot-smoking apartment neighbors feel perfectly entitled to light up all day long in our non-smoking building, then get mad when someone has a cigarette outside if they're within 30 feet of the building.
I remember when I lived on the UES. This was a thing.
You'll take more guff for a cigarette than you will for skunking up the entire floor.
The smell of rotten skunk from my neighbors porch in the summer pervades my whole house when the windows are open. I wish he’d just hotbox his bathroom or something.
Yes, that is a weird and obnoxious attitude. And I don't think it's unreasonable to expect people not to smoke in a building where smoking is not permitted. You want to smoke your stuff, let other people smoke theirs. Just not where you have signed a lease that doesn't permit smoking.
Weird, obnoxious,...and widespread. It's culture war.

German far-right party wins state election for the first time since the Nazis

Ok, so the AfD was the first far-right party to win since the Nazi Party. No doubt about it.
But the AfD are not genocidal maniacs like Nazis were. The right has toned it down quite a bit.
Right, Peanuts?

I'm defending AfD, you moron.
Observe the two statements below:
1- We don't want these people in our country.
2- We don't want people who hate us in our country.
The first can construed as racist. The latter as reasonable.

You guys are fucking ridiculous.
But the AfD are not genocidal maniacs like Nazis were. The right has toned it down quite a bit.
I don't know, were they chanting "from the river to the sea" or something?
NBC News has far more in common with the Nazis than ‘the right’. You do too.
I wonder how far right the AfD really is - considering that most of their voters were either indoctrinated in German Communist schools or are the children of people indoctrinated in German Communist schools. But unlike leftist clone-minds, I know the Nazis were a variant of totalitarian socialism, not right-wing at all, and I hope the AfD has found their way to the true right-wing.

My mother and her parents had US visas and took the ferry from Calais to Dover hoping to get a boat from the UK to the US - they couldn't find berths on any boats direct from the continent, but between the ferry leaving Calais and arriving in Dover, the war began and they were stuck in England.
Ha ha, the shit you make up.
Not this, you fucking POS.
Your whole phony backstory you’ve crafted is a lie. You’re Jeff, or DOL/KAR, or White Mike, or Shrike, or one of you fucks sockpuppeting as every single on of you has a tendency to do.
Right now I’m leaning DOL, whose been everything from a Redneck construction company owner who likes Biden, to a special forces operative. A British lawyer is certainly within his wheelhouse. But you still could be Jeff or Shrike, or even Tony.
You're a paranoid or at least, conspiracy-minded fuckwit.

BTW for sake of accuracy, I studied law (the degree is called "jurisprudence" at Oxford) but am not a lawyer nor ever claimed to be one.

But what specific instances are you talking about, you lying POS?
Give me a fucking break--you're so full of shit you stink.
“but between the ferry leaving Calais and arriving in Dover, the war began and they were stuck in England.” That’s strange. All the way through WWII, freighters sailed from the US to the UK heavily loaded and sailed back mostly empty. So why couldn’t they get a ride on one of these? Were their visas canceled, or were they holding out for a luxury liner, most of which were commandeered by the Royal Navy as troop ships and scouts?
Re: polls. Had Harris picked Shapiro, I might be concerned about PA, which might be thee moment of truth. As it stands, and I’ll stipulate to its limits, I’ve seen exactly one Harris-for-President yard sign. One. And I travel a lot in PA.
So I’ll put my old eyes but well-oiled yard-sign test up against Nate’s spread sheets; he also had Hillary at 70% on election eve, lest we forget.
Well I live in rural Georgia and I saw ZERO Biden signs in 2020 yet he took the 16 electoral votes home by a margin of 11,800. Of course Donnie tried to steal Georgia later.
PA will be very close. But whoever wins it is likely to be the next POTUS.
Yep. Agree. PA will be close, and likely dispositive. Hence the 30-40 political ads Per Day I see when watching TV, mostly at might, but who’s counting.
Them requiring multiple days to count the votes (odd how Florida, a larger state, does NOT require that, but that's Democrats for you) is certainly going to make this look totally on the up-and-up.
Like how Germany found a "glitch" that cost AfD a vital seat to provide a block on amendments. Totes convenient.
“Well I live in rural Georgia and I saw ZERO Biden signs in 2020 yet he took the 16 electoral votes home by a margin of 11,800.”

No single probabilistic forecast - and hence forecaster - can be proven wrong. If you say that the probability is 83% that you’ll throw any number but 6 on a fair 6-sided die, when you throw the die and it comes up 6, that doesn’t make your probability of 83% wrong. You need a large number of trials or a very long track record to test how good someone is at making probabilistic forecasts. Related: this is why you can’t look at a fund manager’s short-term performance to tell whether they were skillful or merely lucky.
If a statistical model had been fed just the fact that Hil-dog would obtain 2.9 million MORE overall votes then that 70% probability would have been higher. And also wrong.
Shrike and shrike continue to think the popular vote matters when most of the slate of offices in NY and Ca don't even have other parties on the ballots so it isn't a true meaning of anything. People that are against dems don't vote there as it is party controlled.

Over the weekend, wife and I went to the Jersey shore. On a 2.5 mile stretch of shoreline, I counted no less than 18 Trump flags. Meaning, these people were motivated enough to buy a freaking beach flagpole and fly the Trump flags. Those Trump supporters are energized, and there are a lot of them.
There was not one, not a single Harris/Walz flag on that beach.
This is Jersey, the bluest of blue states.
it really shouldn't be the job of the vice presidential candidate to engage in armchair philosophizing on the political podcast circuit; he should probably be focused on messaging that appeals to the groups Team Trump is trying to win over.
Wrong candidate. Vance has no ability to connect with any normal people. His skill is lecturing and philosophizing to people on the other side of a computer/phone/screen.
I don't know. From what I've seen, he seems to do a better job than you do with people who you ostensibly agree with.
But Walz----that dude is FUCKING dreamy, amirite?
He's the hottest thing since Beto!
He's just getting the same hollywood/MSM turd polishing that Harris is, nothing more.
If he was on the right we would be hearing how he was a weirdo that was going to enslave all the blacks and lock the women in their birthing rooms, etc. But he's on the left so he's dreamy, relatable, cool, fun, happy/joyful, etc.
Townhall.com:
Democratic vice presidential nominee Gov. Tim Walz’s (D-Minn.) brother is warning Americans that voting for a Harris-Walz ticket could mean for the future of the United States.
The governor’s brother, Jeff Walz, has a Facebook account, which Laura Loomer, a Republican political activist, discovered after finding shocking revelations about Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate.
“The stories I could tell. Not the type of character you want making decisions about your future,” Jeff Walz reportedly wrote in a comment.
Walz’s brother warned people on his social media account about the governor’s radical ideologies, saying he hasn’t spoken to his brother in eight years because of his progressive policies.
“I’m 100% opposed to all his ideology,” he wrote in a March 30, 2023 post. “My family wasn’t given any notice that he was selected and denied security the days after.”

They would know Tampon Timmy.
From The Daily Caller:
HBO host Bill Maher accused Vice President Kamala Harris and Democratic Gov. Tim Walz of insulting voters during a CNN interview…
Maher called out Walz for claiming he spoke like normal Americans…
“No, you don’t,” Maher said. “No, you don’t. You’re a huge liar, like all politicians are.”
While amusing...I do think turning on family is kind of a BS move to make.
Especially blood. Brother-in-law I could understand (tho my BIL are both terrific guys), but your actual brother? Ugh.
Scenario:
Nov 4-5 2024; Trump is declared the winner with 270 electoral votes
Nov 5-Jan 20, 2025: The Democratic Party and their catamite MSM allies will decry the [albeit certified] election, and be all in for overturning it in the interest of "democracy." This will be a great expansion of the celebrities [Martin Sheen, Debra Messing, Moby, et al] who exhorted the electors in 2015 to not certify Trump's victory then. There will be no acknowledgement of the paradox of attempting to overrule an election toward this end, and render it a coup if not a true and actual "insurrection." Trump will be arrested [choose your charges] and imprisoned, and we will be gaslighted all the way. Media outlets will either comply or be shut down.
Why? Because Trump upsets the cart of "the way things are supposed to work," never mind any possible diminishment of burgeoning government power and overreach. They don't want to go back.
Stalin would be impressed.
10+ years ago I though such "conspiracies" were the stuff of angry lunatics, but I believe anything is possible now.
Let us know if Democrats attempt a coup in the form of fake electors set up to replace the actual winning electors.
November 7th, 2020.

Also happened in the 1800s.
You've been told this dozens of times.
Hillary also lobbied to get electors to change their votes.

Fake electors is a made up bullshit Democrat term you retarded fuck. Not legal.
Constitution states the date it is required to submit the slate of electors.
In 1960 Hawaii had active lawsuits regarding who won, so both sides submitted electors based on the outcome of the trials. The exact same shit Trump did you not a Democrat lying dumbass.
No such thing as "fake electors".
'Twas an alternate slate of electors, required to exist while the court trials were ongoing.
This time there will be no veneer of subterfuge, no pretending; it will be a coup d'etat. And a significant proportion of the electorate will be happy with it, and inform on you if you're not. Several of them comment here.
Overall we've had a pretty good run as a republic. Not as long as Rome, but still respectable.
“Several of them comment here.”
JFree and Mod in particular would do it in a heartbeat. Peterson noted this occurred during the pandemic.
“When people read the history of Nazi Germany, they always think they’d be Schindler. They always think they’re the person who would have saved Anne Frank in the Netherlands.
They never read history as a perpetrator. ‘I wouldn’t have done that.’
Did you watch people during the pandemic? Thirty percent of my neighbors were thrilled that they had the opportunity to inform on the people around them.
They would have worn those goddamn masks for the rest of their life if the payoff would have been they could feel morally superior and inform.”
The center-right was particularly gleeful about sticking it to anyone that didn't go along with whatever mandate the Branch Covidians were implementing, to the point they even argued that people who got sick shouldn't have insurance pay their bills.
When I mentioned to these assholes that the same standard should apply to the obese, since they die in far greater numbers every year and cost us far more in medical premiums, there was a bunch of harrumphing about not being able to do anything about age or genetics. Equality, rightly understood, as our founding fathers understood it, leads to liberty and to the emancipation of creative differences. Wrongly understood, as it has been so tragically in our time, it leads first to conformity and then to despotism." 1964

Rogue electors brief Clinton camp on anti-Trump plan

Advocates of the long-shot bid to turn the Electoral College against Donald Trump have been in contact with close allies of Hillary Clinton, according to multiple sources familiar with the discussions, but the Clinton camp — and Clinton herself — have declined to weigh in on the merits of the plan.
Clinton’s team and the Democratic National Committee have steadfastly refused to endorse the efforts spearheaded by a group of electors in Colorado and Washington state. But, as with the ongoing recounts initiated by Green Party nominee Jill Stein, the Clinton team has not categorically rejected them, leaving the collection of mainly Democratic electors to push forward with no explicit public support from the failed Democratic nominee or any other prominent party leaders...
Backers of Hamilton Electors are also preparing a wave of lawsuits challenging 29 state laws that purport to bind electors to the results of the statewide popular vote. These laws have never been enforced or tested, and many constitutional scholars believe they conflict with the Founders’ vision of the Electoral College as a deliberative body. Courtroom victories, they hope, will embolden other electors to join their cause.
All 538 members of the Electoral College will meet on Dec. 19 in their respective state capitals to cast the formal vote for president. Trump won the popular vote in states that constitute 306 electors — easily above the 270-vote threshold he needs to become president if all Republican electors support him. That’s why anti-Trump electors are working to persuade at least 37 Republican electors to ditch Trump, the minimum they’d need to prevent his election, and join them in support of a compromise candidate, which could send the final decision to the House of Representatives...
They had one candidate win primaries after blocking actual competition and then simply put somebody else who did not win a single vote in as candidate for President instead.
A total coup.
turd, the shit-stain of the commentariat, lies; it’s all he ever does. turd is a kiddie diddler, and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar.
If anything he posts isn’t a lie, it’s totally accidental.
turd lies; it’s what he does. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit.
Jamie Raskin has already said his side is going to start a civil war to prevent Trump from taking office if the 2 am ballot dump isn't enough to keep him from winning. Or, simply look to what the left-liberal regimes in Europe and Brazil have done the last few weeks as right-wing parties have gained more traction and election victories. They're openly threatening Musk for not censoring right-wing posts and seizing assets, while playing reindeer games with election results to try and prevent a completely open revolt against their regimes for blatantly practicing election fraud in the wake of these parties gaining popularity in areas of the country that aren't completely under the cultural thumb of the left-wing.
In light of this, Milei's victory in Argentina is particularly remarkable, as is the fact that the CIA hasn't assassinated him yet for not being the typical marxist regime simp.
Quit lying. Raskin said no such thing.
He did say that Congress would need to step in to prevent another "rampaging Trump mob" from starting a civil war.
You Trump Cultists own Jan 6 just like Al Qaeda owns 9/11.
Raskin can’t be trusted. He’s another lying democrat statist, who eagerly joined the democrat junta that took out their own elected nominee after a few Obama-Pelosi party diktats.
Extrapolate from that what they’ll do to resist Trump. That’s the point.
Quit lying. Raskin said no such thing.
Quit lying. He absolutely said it, and he made it clear that they would start it if Trump won.
You Trump Cultists own Jan 6 just like Al Qaeda owns 9/11.
Your side bombed the building twice, you hicklib pederast. the only good Open Society cultist is a defenestrated one.

2 am ballot dump
Is that what you guys call it when the huge counties like Fulton and Fairfax finally report?
That's what I call it when 95% of mail-in ballots and coat closet ballots are all votes for one party.
Ahh Fulton County.
Literally a month ago it came out their 2020 recounts had 3 different totals thousands of votes different. 15k votes had no associated ballot images that are required to be stored.
But you're not a Democrat.
Which indicates smaller towns need to hold their ballot results until the larger towns report first.

10+ years ago I though such “conspiracies” were the stuff of angry lunatics, but I believe anything is possible now.
Would you have believed that a losing president would insist that a fair election was actually stolen, encourage the non-certification of the results, suggest an election official “find” votes for him, and that his supporters would set up fake slates of electors, and ultimately there’d be rioting on Capitol Hill to attempt to prevent certification of the election?
The only conspiracy so far was a conspiracy by Trump and others to steal the 2020 election.
You know, you sound just like Maduro in Venezuela.
I don't. Trump judges found against Trump. A right-wing Supreme Court rejected relevant cases. Or are you cretinous enough to think that the right-wing judiciary were in a conspiracy to give Biden the presidency? No, of course not. Given a choice between your being a cretin and your being a liar, always safe to bet on your being a liar.
This is a lie. And I've posted the cases. Wisconsin and Pennsylvania both admitted to illegal election changes. GA admitted to double voters.
But you persist.
You keep using the common liberal tactic of judges dismissing for cause and then dismissing as moot. You refuse to acknowledge the ongoing cases that occurred later.
Likewise I'll comment on this.
encourage the non-certification of the results,
The voting laws require certifications. It is not a forced certification. If elections are in doubt that is up to election boards to certify or not.
Your asshole authoritarian Democrat heroes threatened all boards with jail time if they didn't blindly certify, making the certification process useless.
You keep referring to cases about election procedures. How about post-election cases concerning claims of fraud? You know, the stuff that Trump claimed happened after the election?
You refuse to acknowledge the ongoing cases that occurred later.
Trump lost all but one of the post-election cases.
You keep using the common liberal tactic of judges dismissing for cause and then dismissing as moot.
You really are ignorant or dishonest. There is no "common liberal tactic" - many of the cases were rejected on standing. by judges of all political stripes. In some cases the judges considered the merits even though they said they could dismiss on standing - and rejected the merits. And in some cases they considered the merits acknowledging standing - and rejected those too.
Finally - and a case you would pretend doesn't exist - in Texas v Pennsylvania, not only did Trump's team not join Texas, even their amicus brief did not allege fraud, only claiming that the processes would make fraud more difficult to detect. And Texas lost 9-0 (7-2 in declining to hear the case, but Alito and Thomas would nonetheless have rejected it.)
There were no election issues that justified non-certification, as all the lawsuits proved.
But that was not good enough for you schneeflocken,
It was not a party blocking all competition from the President from the primaries then, after he won all of the primaries, replacing him with somebody who has literally never won a single primary vote ever to be the candidate?
In what way is that not a coup., Because you support it?
In 2019/20 some state GOPs cancelled primaries altogether - hence blocking competition. But I guess you supported that,
In what way is that not a coup.
Because a coup requires an illegitimate change of government. The government did not change, Biden was not removed from being president. And on election day, if people wish to express their disapproval over the Democrats' pragmatic solution to Biden's senility, they can vote for someone other than Kamala. What's the problem with that?
As before, some of you simultaneously think that Biden is unfit to the president but the Democrats should still be forced to run him in November
"And on election day, if people wish to express their disapproval over the Democrats’ pragmatic solution to Biden’s senility, they can vote for someone other than Kamala. What’s the problem with that?"
I guess I do not understand what primaries are [supposed to be] for.
I don't understand why states run them and why they are considered elections. They should be party matters handled and paid for by the parties. And no party should have guaranteed access. Collect signatures like any non-party backed candidate has to if you want to be on the ballot.
Primaries are for individual parties to select their candidates.
Happy to help.
From USA.gov:
Presidential primaries
Most states hold primaries 6-9 months before a presidential election. Primary voters choose their preferred candidate anonymously by casting secret ballots. The state where the primary is held takes the results of the vote into account to award delegates to the winners.
Or, in lieu of this process, they can just be appointed...
And the primaries select candidates - you know, for political parties.
...and?
Some states cancelled a primary when a candidate was already all but guaranteed of, minimum, 85% of the vote.
The Dems blocked off competition for a candidate they had zero intention to run. They then scheduled a debate incredibly early to justify removing Biden. They stuck in Harris because, politically, it was their only option (as I said the moment they pulled Biden).
This is not the same thing.
"Because a coup requires an illegitimate change of government."
Voters voted for Biden overwhelmingly. They are, instead, getting Kamala who they did not vote for. The voters were given zero voice in this.
This is absolutely a coup. You just like it.
"As before, some of you simultaneously think that Biden is unfit to the president but the Democrats should still be forced to run him in November"
The Democrat voters VOTED for him. Overwhelmingly. They should be forced to go forward with him.
So when a candidate is far enough ahead on polls, no need to hold a vote? The zeal with which you defend your position is impressive. The intelligence? Not so much.
Doesn't the party (D, R, L) decide that = the lead by one candidate being large enough to be insurmountable, bag the primary and declare a winner
I would bring back the smoke filled room, just like the Democrats did when they unceremoniously dumped POTUS Biden and installed Komrade Kamala as their selected candidate.
"Biden’s senility"
When did you become a conspiracy theorist?
When did you become a conspiracy theorist?
I believe a suitable response is along the lines of "when your momma said she suspected you were filming us having sex".
Interesting. I've been told by some of the left-leaning posters here that suspecting Joe's senility is buying into right wing conspiracy.
Expect gaslighting; a LOT of gaslighting, and memory holing.
Trump. after all, is an existential threat to our very civilization; in this vein any and every thing is justified.
[DJT is not my first choice, but given the choices we have and the extent we're being lied to, it's really not much of a choice at all]
They may well have claimed that. I'm not left-leaning, though some of the right-wing authoritarians on this board would have you believe otherwise. And conspiracy thinking is not limited to the right, though it's generally more in evidence here in the US.
But the Hur report for one suggested an issue, the debate was bleeding obvious and you don't suddenly go senile overnight.
I took the pragmatic view, we can afford to wait until the election, and after all Reagan was suffering from Alzheimer's in his second term without catastrophe.
I am amused at the obviously symmetrical partisan positions, one holding that Biden is cognitively deficient while Trump is fine, and the other, vice versa when it's obvious that both are deficient, though Biden is further along.
They can always take another shot at him.
They're so enraged that the dude missed.
They will.
Seems to me Vance's only gaffe, if you want to call it that, is speaking a harsh truth. If you want to pretend the primary market for woke isn't the overeducated urban childless, you're welcome to do so. But, if you want us to believe the main selling point of wokeness isn't vindictive status assertion, you're going to have to offer a better sell than this, Liz.
Liz has distinguished herself as the foremost defender of childless cat ladies. It's not clear to me that these people are particularly oppressed or that they need a relatively obscure "libertarian" publication to promote their cause. But she clearly has a deep affinity for these victims of the verbal abuses of one guy. It seems personal to me. Perhaps her circle of friends is dominated by childless cat ladies or perhaps she aspires to one day be one. In either case, me thinks the lady doth protest too much.
Like with so many Vance quotes, I think the point he’s trying to make is a reasonable one—that sometimes woke people are engaged in self-justifying projection, and that sometimes parts of that worldview breed misery—but it’s communicated in the least palatable, least generous way possible that just makes him look angry and hectoring.
JFC.
Crazy Cat Ladies: I’m going to hector everyone about everything until black people are lighting shit on fire and stealing bikes from pregnant nurses, white people are rioting on the steps of the WH, and everybody is so fucking tired of rape allegations and #MeToo that they invent the term Karen to lampoon anyone who’s leery of such things.
J.D. Vance: Maybe we should give the Crazy Cat Ladies a taste of their own medicine.
Wolfe: Quit hectoring the Crazy Cat Ladies!
Reason magazine, including the more venerable Liz Wolfe, showing up just in the nick of time to impugn the side with all the defensive wounds as they start to fight back. It's not supposed to be palatable, Liz. Nobody gave a shit for the last two decades when anyone who didn't suck Obama's cock got called a homophobic racist. Fuck your "hectoring" bullshit. Cat Ladies kept us locked inside because they were scared of COVID. They're anti-human and they've been guiding policy for the better part of 3 decades.
Or what you said.
It goes back to the eternal principle held by the center-right–“you can ruin our livelihoods for wrongthink, you can rape and brainwash our kids, just don’t call us mean!”
The west absolutely needs to break up for its own good, and that's across the board. Fuck "unity" against Russia or China if it means being unified with these freaks. Why should I lift a finger to stand against the nation's adversaries if doing so might allow them to retain political power and cultural control? These people don't even LIKE this country, why should I break my back to preserve it as currently constituted, so they can continue to downtalk and subvert it like a bunch of Rand villains?
Let the enterprise come to an end, and they can have their transhumanist, cultural marxist diversity state experiments to their heart's content, while those who don't agree with such wokeist stupidity can have their own high-trust societies free of such degrading influences.
>>Cat Ladies kept us locked inside because they were scared of COVID.
this. and every doctor on earth owes an apology.
And the Dem VP nominee was about as bad as one can get on COVID policies to boot.
She was against the vax before she was for it...
"Well, I think that's going to be an issue for all of us. I will say that I would not trust Donald Trump. And it would have to be a credible source of information that talks about the efficacy and the reliability of whatever he's talking about. I will not take his word for it. He wants us to inject bleach. I -- no, I will not take his word.
When asked by Bash if she would take Dr. Anthony Fauci’s word on whether the vaccine was safe, she added, “No, I think Dr. Fauci has proven, for anyone who's been watching him for years and years, to put the public health of the American people as the highest priority in terms of his work and his reputation and his priority. Yes, I trust Dr. Fauci.”
During the October 2020 vice presidential debate, Harris categorically stated, “If the public health professionals, if Dr. Fauci, if the doctors tell us that we should take it, I’ll be the first in line to take it. Absolutely. But if Donald Trump tells us that we should take it, I’m not taking it.”
... is an insult to stupid people
Like with so many Vance quotes, I think the point he's trying to make is a reasonable one—that sometimes woke people are engaged in self-justifying projection, and that sometimes parts of that worldview breed misery—but it's communicated in the least palatable, least generous way possible that just makes him look angry and hectoring.
Wait, what? A guy who calls out an entire class of people who angrily hector people is 'angry and hectoring'... because he pointed it out? This is the platonic definition of chiding the guy with defensive knife wounds on his hands for fanning the flames of culture war.
I dare make a point that if these were atheist, nihilist, trolling, peevish, childless men someone would utter the word ‘incel’ everyone would nod at each other and any thoughts or inputs they may have would be summarily forgotten, if not tucked away to be trotted out as a boogeyman requiring Section 230-esque protections.
But since these are atheist, nihilist, trolling, peevish, childless women… well, other women and any chivalrous men worth their salt *should* come to their defense. Any argument against a potential VP expressing obviously uncouth less-than-Section-230 sentiments are obviously beyond the pale and this is totally not a selective manipulation of disparate social standards.
how dare you call anyone a woman without confirmation, non-biologist.
But this is par for the course for Vance, who isn't exactly doing the best job on the campaign trail.
...by talking to reporters, I guess.
He didn’t get in his Time Machine and go back and unsay things from years ago- that are all true. Terrible campaigner
+1
They should've vetted him for saying things in the past that won his election but that childless cat ladies from the future might disapprove of.
Riiiiiiight.
Oh shit, you can't make this up. You've done it again, Reason.
"We're bringing this housing back... 'and it's going to target youth age 16 to 24 with a special focus on services to LGBQITMAP+ young people..."

it's not even noon.
DAYLIGHT'S BURNING
Finally!
I've been saying for years, "You know who rants too much and takes up way too much space on this forum? Fist of Etiquette, that's who!"
At least now we'll get a break at *some* point in the day.
I always try to slip an "A Day without Fist of Etiquette" in every once in a while so people learn to not take me for granite.
So that explains those days where I feel disoriented and just sit around all day and accomplish nothing. I LOVE THAT!
J6 is never more than a year away.

strangeness of the way in which Harris ascended.
*knock on door*
Jill Biden turns TV channel Matlock for her husband, who's sitting in the corner of the room with a blanket on his lap and a bowl of tapioca on the tv tray.
Jill: Ok, that should keep you set for the next hour, I'll go see who's at the door.
Jill opens the door to find two men in dark suits and sunglasses standing at the door.
1st man: Hello Mrs. Biden. the man briefly smiles with the corner of his mouth, then returns to a stern look
the 2nd man stays silent and stony faced
Jill looking somewhat confused Uh, yes, may I help you? she takes a half step back and closes the door a couple of inches in a furtive, defensive gesture, but remains at the door
1st man: Mrs. Biden, forgive the intrusion, we're here from the DNC.
Jill: Jill's shoulders drop slightly, almost as if in relief Oh, I'm sorry, my husband's not really...
1st man: We're not here to see your husband.
Jill: Well, I know that we all really know no one ever comes to see my husband, but usually for protocol...
2nd man: ...that he's officially in the room, yes, Mrs. Biden, that's not... necessary in this case.
Jill: Oh... well, then what can I do for you? at this point, Jill notices a limo parked on the street with dark tinted windows, the rear window cracked open a few inches.
1st man: We've been sent to deliver a message.
Jill: Is this a DNC message or a message from someone specific? Again, Jill looks past the two men to the limo parked in front of her house... a puff of vape smoke ejects from the open window
2nd man: It comes from the top.
Jill: gesturing to the limo Is that?
2nd man: I said, it comes from the top.
Jill swallows nervously but says nothing
1st man: Mrs. Biden, the... DNC would like to thank both you and your husband for your service to the Party and the nation. the man pauses for a moment, Jill saying nothing in response However, the Party is at a crossroads and your husband's presidency has two possible futures. One of them involves the 25th amendment.
a look of shock slowly spreads across Jill's face as she processes the meaning of the statement. Again, she looks past the two men to the limo, another puff of vape smoke drifts from the open window
Jill: I... I don't understa...
2nd man: he hands a card to Jill who takes it, hand trembling You have 24 hours to make your decision. Just call the number on the card when you're ready.
The two men turn and walk away and get into a black SUV that Jill hadn't noticed was parked in front of the limo. As the vehicles pull away, the limo window opens completely, and a Portuguese Water Dog sticks its head out the window and barks but is pulled back into the limo by a gloved hand.
a puff of vape smoke ejects from the open window
They really don't write villains like they used to.
Did Obama quit smoking?
Look at me in the keyboard and tell me Obama's not the kind of guy who would switch to vaping.
Does Clinton still enjoy an occasional cigar?
oh ... he switched to something.
Nicely done.
Other people's choices really aren't his problem
Obviously not. His problem is other people's desire to force their choices onto us.
The Dems will never admit they have chosen a mediocre candidate who comes across like she was made by AI. When they lose it’s gonna be very painful…for us.
They're not going to lose. Trump will not be permitted to be president again, whatever it takes.
Oh wow it's 50 50 again with easily thieved maybe 100k votes separating them, wow I am certain it will be the most fairest safest totally on the up and up election ever except for 2020 which so totally the mostest fairest finest most peaceful and correct election in the history of the universe as our masters and overlords declared unceasingly even before they were done stealing it.
Ditto is the name of the 2024 election.
