St. Louis firefighter Arnold Britt has pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property and fraudulent use of a credit/debit device. Britt asked a survivor of a car crash that killed four people to give him his wallet for identification. Britt slipped the wallet, which contained nearly $700 in cash and $200 in gift cards, into his jacket and did not return it. He is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 6. Prosecutors have recommended he serve six years in prison.

When no one is being even arrested for shoplifting more than that? I saw a dude use a blowtorch to open locked containers and steal everything in it while being filmed by like 7 different people, including store employees. No one did a thing.

The proper punishment for this guy is to be fired from his firefighter job and fined $2 or $3k, including full restitution. Not 6 fucking years on the taxpayer dime.

Nope. I was trying to avoid victim blaming but, even after a car accident, there's a distinction between wearing a short skirt and taking it off and giving it to your rapist at their request.

Again, not to any way excuse Britt. If he hadn't gotten caught here he almost certainly would've gone on to pilfer from corpses or unconscious people but, if someone asks you for ID, they don't need $700 in cash and $200 in gift cards to ID you.

The "receiving" would have been the things purchased with the stolen debit card, I believe.
