DeSantis Repeats Lie That Booster Shots Make You More Likely To Get COVID
Evidence actually shows that vaccinated people are less likely to be hospitalized or die of the infection.
Flailing GOP presidential candidate Gov. Ron DeSantis will apparently repeat any lie that he thinks will endear him to the Trump wing of the Republican Party. One of the more egregious examples is his recent assertion: "Every booster you take, you're more likely to get COVID as a result of it." Total bullshit.
It's not clear whence the governor got his misinformed soundbite, but the internet is filled with similar bogus claims by anti-COVID vaccine YouTube grifters like retired British nurse educator John Campbell. So what is really the case?
The governor's assertion probably stems from a likely deliberate misinterpretation of an August 2023 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) risk assessment summarizing the possible efficacy of current COVID vaccines against the then-new COVID BA.2.86 variant. COVID vaccines are formulated to target specific variants of the virus. The most recent booster targets the XBB.1.5 omicron variant. However, the virus is constantly mutating and throwing up new variants that might break through immune protection that has been primed by a booster to fight XBB.1.5 variant. This is the question that the CDC's August assessment aimed to address with reference to the BA.2.86 variant.
The CDC summary stated:
Based on what CDC knows now, existing tests used to detect and medications used to treat COVID-19 appear to be effective with this variant. BA.2.86 may be more capable of causing infection in people who have previously had COVID-19 or who have received COVID-19 vaccines [emphasis added]. Scientists are evaluating the effectiveness of the forthcoming, updated COVID-19 vaccine. CDC's current assessment is that this updated vaccine will be effective at reducing severe disease and hospitalization. At this point, there is no evidence that this variant is causing more severe illness. That assessment may change as additional scientific data are developed. CDC will share more as we know more.
Anti-vaccine grifters twisted (deliberately?) the highlighted sentence into headlines like: "CDC Finally Admits That Vaccinated Are Now More Susceptible to COVID Than Unvaxxed." It did no such thing.
Read the sentence again: BA.2.86 may be more capable of causing infection in people who have previously had COVID-19 or who have received COVID-19 vaccines.
Clearly, all that it is saying is that the new variant may be capable of evading immune protection induced by either infection or vaccination. In other words, both previously infected and vaccinated people might be susceptible to the new BA.2.86 variant. It does not even come close to saying that vaccinated people are more likely to get COVID.
In response to this online bunkum, the CDC appended a clarification in September to its risk assessment (although why one was needed if people had practiced basic reading skills is beyond me) that notes:
The first risk assessment CDC released on BA.2.86 included the following sentence: "BA.2.86 may be more capable of causing infection in people who have previously had COVID-19 or who have received COVID-19 vaccines." The intent of this sentence was to raise the possibility that BA.2.86 might be more capable of causing infection compared with other variants currently circulating, but this sentence has been misinterpreted by some. Vaccination remains the best available protection against the most severe outcomes of COVID-19, including hospitalization and death. COVID-19 vaccines also reduce the chance of having Long COVID.
Of course, I agree that the CDC massively damaged its credibility during the pandemic, but only the conspiracy-addled will insist that whatever its researchers report now must be always false.
Whatever the CDC's prior sins, it is nevertheless the case that the virus never stops mutating. The newest and increasingly widespread variant has been dubbed JN.1. Virologists think the JN.1 variant may be the most infectious version yet. The good news, however, is that the current booster formulated for the XBB.1.5 variant continues to provide protection against the worst consequences—hospitalization and death—of JN.1 infection.
As a January 12 news article in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) reports, "Fortunately, laboratory research and rates of COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths suggest that the XBB.1.5 vaccine still protects against severe illness in the JN.1 era."
"The purpose of vaccination is to decrease the severity of diseases," explained University of Tokyo virologist Kei Sato in JAMA. "Many people think that the purpose of vaccination is to prevent infection, but this is wrong."
It would have been fantastic if the COVID vaccines had offered permanent sterilizing immunity the way that vaccines for measles and polio largely do, but reams of evidence do show that current vaccines significantly protect people from the worst consequences of COVID infections. Let's hope that research on creating a universal COVID vaccine bears fruit sooner rather than later.
In any case, pandering presidential candidates should refrain from passing along anti-vaccine lies to voters.
Disclosure: I was boosted with the XBB.1.5 vaccine in September.

Uh-oh.
“The libertarian case for the Gavin Newsom,” January 18 episode.
Hey now, Bailey is the “Science” reporter for Liberteen Magazine here.
Is it?
Anti-vaccine grifters twisted (deliberately?) the highlighted sentence into headlines like: “CDC Finally Admits That Vaccinated Are Now More Susceptible to COVID Than Unvaxxed.” It did no such thing.
Deliberate misinterpretations are called “truth” in these comments.
Blindly trust the government. Even when they’ve been shown to be wrong at every step. Ignore the studies that counter the narrative.
Yes. There are studies. Binion seems ignorant outside of the narrative. Those studies have been linked here.
Blind allegiance is your game though.
Killing people is good ass long ass anti-vaxxers have their way in promoting anti-vaxism ass THE most fashionable of ALL Marks of Tribal Virtue!!!
https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/united-states-rates-of-covid-19-deaths-by-vaccination-status?country=~All+ages
Just LOOK at the interactive graph right at the top of this link!!!! COVID deaths among the unvaccinated VASTLY outnumbered, and still outnumber, the deaths among the vaccinated!!! WHY do You Perfectly Lust SOOOO Much for death and suffering, LYING servant and serpent of communicable diseases?!?!
That goes against Jesse’s narrative, so the source must be leftist.
What narrative sarc? The narrative of not being ignorant? Of not blindly trusting the state who has been wrong constantly?
The fact is natural immunity provides broader protectiond against viruses. This isn’t even debated anymore outside of narrative pushers. Conditioning immunity against one aspect of a virus makes you more susceptible to mutations of the single aspect. Natural immunity allows the body to protect against multiple mutation aspects. This is well documented even post covid.
You remain ignorant as usual.
Now you’re changing the subject from lies about the vaccine to natural immunity.
One good reference to the current topic: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37243095/
(There are many more that are much more technical and tedious if you wish to delve deeper that I won’t go into.)
Vaccine induced tolerance has not been ruled out with Sars-Cov-2 mRNA vaccines. In fact is was a concern with vaccine development with other diseases. Vaccine induced tolerance would explain some European and Israeli studies that report greater likelihood of infection with SARS Cov-2 the more booster vaccinations an individual received. Not proven but it is a concern. U.S. government health professionals are less worried about it than death from Sars Cov-2 but that does not mean they are correct. It may be a few years before we know the truth, but to disregard these concerns and to call it conspiracy theories or attribute it to “anti-vaxers” is really to use non-critical thinking wrapped in a warped view of political opponents as enemies ideology (or religion). Sarcasmic, you offer no good to most (but not all) of the discussions I have seen you participate in. This is surely one where your comments were of little use.
“if you wish to delve deeper”
He might wish he could, but unfortunately he’s unable.
Reading comprehension isn’t sarc’s superpower.
Let’s say for the sake of argument that natural immunity does provide broader protection. Problem is, especially for vulnerable people, it also gives you a much better chance of dying in the process of acquiring that immunity.
For some weird reason young men don’t respond well to your miracle drug.
But since when is a heart attack serious?
The problem there is that the spike proteins produced by the ModRNA (mRNA with N1 Methylpseudouridines replacing Uridines) vaccines are a tiny (but very visible) part of the virus. SARS-CoV-2 is an RNA respiratory virus, which, like the flu, means that its cell entry mechanism is simple and robust. That allows for easy mutation. And, mutate, the virus does, constantly, as we all know. By August of 2021, Delta had pushed out the other variants in the US population, and by the end of that year, Omicron had pushed out Delta. The Delta variant spike proteins were enough different from the Wuhan (original decoded) variant spike proteins used I the vaccines, that the antibodies generated in response to the vaccines were reacting weakly with the actual virus, and almost not at all to the Omicron variant spike proteins. Omicron had, effectively, almost completely mutated around the vaccines.
It was maybe another maybe 8 months before a “bivalent” vaccine was introduced to the public, which in addition to the Wuhan spike proteins (which had long disappeared from the US population) also produced Omicron spike proteins. But by tHen with repeated vaccinated with Wuhan variant producing ModRNA, many, if not most, vaccinated immune systems had overimprinted on the Wuhan spikes, and thus underimprinted on the Omicron spike proteins in the bivalent vaccines. This overimprinting also explains why those infected with the virus after having been vaccinated first, don’t develop as effective natural immunity, as the reverse.
You could argue at this point “no harm, no foul”, except that the use of ModRNA, instead of mRNA, appears to be the cause of many of te apparent side effects of the virus. Pfizer admitted doing that, because the immune system would destroy the mRNA vaccines before leaving the injection site, and their goal was to get the vaccine to the lymph nodes. ModRNA effectively hides the vaccines from the immune system, which, it turns out, is why it was used. Unfortunately, there was no mechanism to stop the vaccines in the lymph nodes, so it is picked up there by the circulatory, and spread through the body by it (with passing repeatedly through the heart – likely the cause of myocarditis and pericarditis, which can cause heart attacks).
The other reason that “no harm, no foul” doesn’t work, is that every vaccination, after the first, results in a massive immune response against the (esp Wuhan variant) spike proteins. This lasts for several weeks to a month, and can often be detected for 60-90 days after injection. Of course, this is the time that we are advised to get vaccinated/boosted again. In any cases, the immune system resources spent fighting the vaccine generated spike proteins are unavailable for fighting other antigens, ranging from the rest of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, to long dormant viruses, to cancers long in remission.
How do you get natural inmunity? Well, you get the disease and if you survive it, well, you are inmune.
If you do not survive? Well, then you become a statistic.
Is that what you advocate?
Russian roulette?
The vaccine does not stop transmission.
You seem to forget that.
I do, in fact, advocate that you play Russian roulette. With a semiautomatic pistol.
The anti-science people can be wrong 90% of the time and still be believed, but let an expert be wrong once and science gets crucified by the anti science crowd.
You are correct sir. We farmers deal with the agricultural equivalent of desantis baloney every day and have for decades.
The sceptics (they aren’t remotely anti-science, but nice epithet to minimize their arguments) aren’t a) claiming to be experts and b) aren’t trying to use science to force people to behave in a certain way.
Government bureaucrats and their mouthpieces in the scientific community ARE doing both of those things, so yeah, it’s a much bigger deal when they’re wrong.
Aajax meant anti-The Science.
As einstien said if I were wrong it would only take 1.
The hhs has been wrong 100% of the time. 1 nut job is able to disprove the entirety of the hhs. In this case the sewwds, the Japanese, the cleavland clinic, and many others have disproven the hhs
Ina meeting with a tech fellow he said “I’m just asking questions” my responce was you are off this program. I pay my tech fellows for answers
You mean the experts who lied about masks and keeping 6 feet apart?
LOL, you saw it on the internet so it must be true!
Sarc can never get enough government semen in his belly.
Will you ever get tired of repeating the same tired lies?
What lie dumdum? I’m describing your fucking behaviors. You STILL defend masks for fucks sake.
I pointed out that deliberate misinterpretations are considered truth in these comments.
I never defended masks. I pointed out that the claims you like to argue against are ones that nobody made. That’s a deliberate misinterpretation that you call truth.
Thank you for proving my original point.
Jesus Christ, how are such a little bitch?
Lots of practice.
John Campbell is not a grifter
I don’t think he’s a grifter either but he did go from maybe the best source on the Internet early on to a bit of a conspiracy nut.
Idk what happened but I suspect he tailored his analysis to ramp up serious subscribes and over time those were the folks who kept watching as most people stopped paying attention to COVID once they got vaxxed. Money corrupts. He really was good early on when the poobahs needed to be whittled down.
On edit – it looks like he’s a grifter. His income from that channel has gone from maybe a couple thousand dollars per year before COVID to probably a million dollars a year. Damn that’s impressive.
What amount of income causes one to become a grifter? Where is that threshold?
5 dollars above whatever Fauci was making. Otherwise you are a humble public servant.
If he shifted from reasonable dissident to conspiracy nut in order to garner more income he’s a grifter regardless of the amount. If he did not shift from reasonable dissent and his income increased without becoming a conspiracy nut, then he’s NOT a grifter, regardless of the amount. But then you already knew that …
MORE TESTING NEEDED!
“The purpose of vaccination is to decrease the severity of diseases,” explained University of Tokyo virologist Kei Sato in JAMA. “Many people think that the purpose of vaccination is to prevent infection, but this is wrong.”
Sounds like Humpty Dumpty works for JAMA now.
I must update my Newspeak dictionary.
That explains why my measles infection only gave me a fever of 100.5, despite my vaccination.
Silly me, I thought the purpose of vaccination was to prime your immune system to eliminate infections.
Polio is still ravaging the world but at least it’s mild…
Mostly peaceful polio.
Ronald Bailey seems to be volunteering to testify at #Nuremberg2.
The data supported DeSantis’s assertion at the end of 2021. People are only allowed to say it out loud now that published studies are confirming it.
Reason might as well be The Atlantic at this point.
They hanged journalists too.
Koch brothers need their open borders.
“The purpose of vaccination is to decrease the severity of diseases,” explained University of Tokyo virologist Kei Sato in JAMA. “Many people think that the purpose of vaccination is to prevent infection, but this is wrong.”
Yeah this is the opposite of the reality that existed prior to Ron’s beloved Covid scam. We used to call medications that decreased the severity of disease treatments. We called medications that prevented infection vaccines. In point of fact, in order to force the population to accept experimental mrna jabs, the CDC changed the decades old definition of “vaccine”. Hope you have enough pfizer checks rolling in to maintain your lifestyle when even Reason becomes too embarrassed to publish your “vaccine” advertisements. You admit that the CDC has no credibility. Yet you appeal to their authority to trash a politician who has dropped out of the primary race. Just fuck off Ron.
Yeah this is the opposite of the reality that existed prior to Ron’s beloved Covid scam.
Vaccines like the flu shot prevent you from getting sick at all. If they get it right. They pick three strains and make a vaccine that’s effective against those strains and those alone. If they guess right you won’t get sick. If they get it wrong the vaccine does nothing at all.
MRNA vaccines are different. They prime the body to fight off a whole family of strains instead of a specific one. This means no more guessing on strains. The trade off is that instead of preventing infection, you don’t get as sick as you would have without it.
If they made a mRNA flu shot it would do the same thing. It wouldn’t prevent you from getting sick, but your body would fight it off a lot faster. And unlike the vaccines that prevents you from getting sick, it’s not limited to certain strains. Again, that’s the trade off.
That’s different than a treatment because your immune system is doing the work, not some drug.
MRNA vaccines are different. They prime the body to fight off a whole family of strains instead of a specific one.
100% innacurate. Holy fuck.
They work to fend off a single aspect of a virus. In the case of covid the spike protein. And only that protein. Why it isnt a broad based vaccine susceptible to mutations in that protein.
You really are fucking retarded.
That’s basically what I said, but with more jargon. More deliberate misinterpretation by you, proving my original point.
You could consider viruses that share a protein a family. The vaccine would be effective against all of them, not just one strain. Mutations that don’t have that protein would not be part of that family, and require a new vaccine.
Except that one of the weaknesses of these ModRNA vaccines is that when the spike proteins change, through viral mutation, the vaccines don’t work as well (Delta), and when they mutate enough (Omicron), they don’t work at all.
Hmmm. It looks Putin sent out the latest talking point to all of his right wing cultists.
Putin is a vax Karen like all your other favorite people.
Hahahahahahahaha
Holy fuck man.
Of all of the ad hominems, this is the most ad hominem of the bunch.
What the hell does your comment even MEAN?
It’s not actually Chemleft. I have the real Chemleft muted. But it’s definitely as believably retarded as something Chemleft would say.
This is some places extremely oversimplified, in some places requiring multiple caveats, and in some places flat out wrong.
Ill throw you a bone, being that I know you hate Trump. When he did his “take hydroxychloroquine, what do you have to lose” I remember cringing and thinking, “that is a stupid fucking thing to say on so many levels, just dont wade into the medical debate with very simplistic and vague statements please, Mr President”
I would issue you the same statement (minus the Mr. President)
Except Trump never said to take it, only that it was showing potential. Then a bitch used some fish tank cleaner that sounded similar to kill her husband.
Fuck off you Leftist cunt. Vaccines for polio, whooping coughing and myriad others prior to COVID did in fact immunize the individual against the ailment in question. When you Leftist cunts bring in the flu that is you lying as it has always been known that “vaccine” is just a guess of the strain.
Vaccines like the flu shot
The flu shot was not considered a vaccine until they changed the definition during Covid. It was always called a shot and gave a low dose of the flu. Some people get really sick from it as well.
“MRNA vaccines are different. They prime the body to fight off a whole family of strains instead of a specific one. This means no more guessing on strains. The trade off is that instead of preventing infection, you don’t get as sick as you would have without it.”
Which is why calling these MRNA treatments “vaccines” is misleading. Just because the medical profession is using “vacciine” to describe them does not mean that the general public does not have an expectation of how something called a vaccine works based on the original, more limited, definition.
‘…It’s not clear whence the governor got his misinformed soundbite….’ That’s correct and so the story should end there or explain what the Governor said and make it clear there is no evidence DeSantis was using or replying or reacting to the CDC statement. He merely claimed (without citing his evidence) that people who aren’t vaccinated now get less COVID than those that get a booster shot.
call me when you have data on the heart-attack link.
Actually Ron’s big pharma masters are currently developing “vaccines” for all of the myocarditis that mysteriously appeared out of nowhere. I’ll post a link if i can find it.
I’ll post a link if i can find it.
Please do.
Pfizer Invests Billions in Treatments for Coming ‘Heart Failure Pandemic’
https://slaynews.com/news/pfizer-invests-billions-treatments-coming-heart-failure-pandemic/
Pfizer is investing billions of dollars in treatments to prepare for a looming “heart failure pandemic.”
The Covid mRNA vaccine maker is making a big investment in treatment for heart failure as cases of myocarditis and sudden cardiac deaths skyrocket.
The pharmaceutical giant recently acquired several companies.
This includes a major $6.7 billion cash acquisition of Arena Pharmaceuticals.
Arena Pharmaceuticals is a firm specializing in developing treatments, particularly for heart inflammation conditions like myocarditis and pericarditis.
lol there’s a vax for that!
Finally found the link. See above. Not a Vaxx, back to “treatments” for another “pandemic” that they probably created. Win/Win. Maybe they’ll give Ron a raise.
What heart attack link? It sounds you’re just making things up at this point.
^^^ exactly how Luciana Vaccaro wants you to go about your life
Maybe, but there isn’t any explanation by DeSantis or the CDC as to why their conclusions are the correct ones.
You have other studies that show existing vaccines imprint on prior versions of the virus (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.11.28.569129v1) (““These results indicate that immune imprinting persists even after multiple exposures to Omicron spikes through vaccination and infection, including post XBB.1.5 spike booster mRNA vaccination, which will need to be considered to guide the design of future vaccine boosters.”)
Does this mean boosters might be harmful on balance? I don’t know. And it’s not clear anyone else really does either. Given that yet another COVOD booster with associated side effects is pain (literally), I’ve chosen to opt out of shot #5. I could be persuaded otherwise, but nothing in this article does that persuading.
This is interesting:
“DeSantis Repeats Lie That Booster Shots Make You More Likely To Get COVID[.]
Evidence actually shows that vaccinated people are less likely to be hospitalized or die of the infection.”
Notice that the first sentence refers to ~getting~ covid. The second sentence, apparently–but not actually–refuting the first, talks about being hospitalized for or dying from the disease. It says nothing about actually coming down with it.
So the headline is either intentionally misleading or the author is an idiot.
I get your point, but as for DeSantis, what evidence does he have to back his claim?
The boosted were far more likely to get Omicron than the non-boosted…
But there’s no evidence for that which is my point. What evidence does he (or you) have that being vaccinated makes you more likely to contract COVID than being unvaccinated?
There is some statistical data on the effects of boosters that he is likely referring to.
In general, frequent boosting of any vaccine is a bad idea because it induces tolerance to the antigen, the same way you desensitize people to allergens. That’s why we have carefully worked out vaccination schedules… for all vaccines other than COVID.
So the headline is either intentionally misleading or the author is an idiot.
It’s both.
The most dishonest sort of fact check. When even the headline can’t stick to checking the claim being made there is no hope for the rest of the article.
Anecdotally, no jab for me and caught it twice with minor symptoms and I never took precautions to avoid catching it. People I know who got the shot have had it more times with worse outcomes. Those who have gotten multiple boosters have been sick more often in the past few years than usual (including some diseases that are only seen in those with compromised systems.) There is data that suggests the covid shots actually suppresses the immune system.
We’ve known since shortly after it came out that the shot doesn’t prevent disease contraction. It does seem to relieve the severity of symptoms for at risk populations. I personally think Desantis is right in that the boosters interfere with the immune system in a way that actually makes the “vaccinated” more at risk to catch it
Not anymore.
DeSantis Repeats Lie That Booster Shots Make You More Likely To Get COVID
Followed by:
Evidence actually shows that vaccinated people are less likely to be hospitalized or die of the infection.
Do I have to read this whole article to figure out how these two disparate, unconnected statements somehow relate to one another in the third act?
Oh, and the CDC reported (admittedly, this is 2022, so a year old now) that there were more vaccinated deaths from COVID than unvaccinated deaths from covid.
The link seems to be broken.
The stats relied on age-adjusted rates. Vaccinated people skewed older (which made sense, they were more at risk). For people of the same age, unvaccinated people were more likely to be hospitalized and to die.
But the biggest travesty was requiring school children to be vaccinated, when they had almost 0 risk from COVID-19. Vaccine proponents would argue that the vaccine risk was also small, but getting the shot gives you a 100% exposure to that small (and unknown) risk, vs. maybe a 30 or 40% chance at catching COVID (with almost no mortality for healthy young people.)
Small quibble.
The risk of covid was way greater than 30%. You’re going to get it, sooner or later, the moment it was shown vaccination didn’t prevent transmission this was a guarantee. More than 90% of Americans have antibodies now by conservative estimates. Lots of kids pre-vaccine had antibodies and never knew they’d had it, it was so mild, and it’s a ridiculously contagious virus that you’re going to be exposed to in social settings, just like you’re exposed to colds.
Anyway, you’re right about it. Travesty is not even a strong enough word. The infinitessimal risk of a bad outcome for a healthy school-aged person was actually less than the expected risk of complications from things like myocarditis. EVERY vaccine has risks like that.
Some of the deplatformed scientists during the ‘rona years made the ethical argument that forcing vaccination on children was entirely wrong on those statistics alone.
Sorry for broken link.
Bailey is either too stupid to realize that the two statements are unconnected, or he thinks that readers are too stupid to figure this out.
– my experience has been that the boosters ruin your natural immunity and my primary care physician agrees
– my wife and i each caught our first case of covid in january 2022
– my wife got a booster in june 2022 and i did not
– my wife caught covid again in january 2023
– we slept in same bed (i never quarantined) and i never caught it
– i caught covid for second time in october 2023
– by my count natural immunity lasts 21 months, booster immunity lasts less than 7 months
– both of us are healthy and in our mid 40’s
– neither of us will get another booster … my wife has gone from pro vax to anti vax
Saw my doctor a few weeks back for my 6 month maintenance. He’s had all the covid shots & boosters and has had covid 12 times. Although he says NOW it’s down to a 1 day illness.
I just chuckled; I haven’t gotten any of the shots and have had covid twice…
While I’m loathe to wade into it. The doctor is exposed to COVID on at least a weekly if not daily basis due to his profession.
In his situation, getting essentially every communicable disease possible is to be expected.
I got Covid in December 2020. Got the vax in like march and april, made me incredibly sick, worse than when I had Covid, for like 2-3 days though. Caught Covid again in January 2022, then again in November, and for my 4th time, this summer of 2023. 3rd and 4th times were no biggie. 2nd time was about the same as the first, except instead of losing my sense of smell, lost my voice for a couple months.
So while clearly it does trigger an immune response, otherwise I wouldn’t have gotten so sick when I got the vax, I don’t think it really helped or hurt all that much either way.
I see it in the same way that I view the flu shot. Neither actually stops the disease they’re keyed to but supposedly your symptoms will be lesser. Every year I got the shot I had a worse time with being sick than the years I didn’t. I’ve had the flu bad enough to get tested several times after getting the shot but only once without.
I don’t trust the people pushing this product on everyone. The data and anecdotes don’t support what they claim
n=2
You were FAR more susceptible to Omicron had you been boosted than if you had not…
Esp since the spike proteins were different enough that your vaccine induced immune system imprinting wasn’t going to recognize the Omicron variant.
No Covid vax for me and no positive Covid diagnosis.
Can’t provide Covid statistics if you never get tested.
^^^ word.
I think I had it very early on in the pandemic (Feb 2020), but doctors wouldn’t even test you for it back then unless you had just visited China or a family member had. I most likely caught it from a TSA agent, on a domestic trip.
I got the first shot and the second round (which flattened me for a day), mostly for work and travel reasons, but never tested positive, because I never tested. The only places that actually checked the vaccine card were my dentist and my veterinarian.
I took a pass on all the boosters after that, since they typically were a year behind the latest variant, and only even claimed effectiveness for a very short window (like from one month after the booster to four months after the booster.)
Trust the CDC!
CDC Drafted Alert For Myocarditis And COVID-19 Vaccines, But Never Sent It
https://www.zerohedge.com/covid-19/cdc-drafted-alert-myocarditis-and-covid-19-vaccines-never-sent-it
The CDC drafted an alert on COVID-19 vaccines but never sent it, this email shows. (CDC via The Epoch Times)
It was titled “draft alert on myocarditis and mRNA vaccines.”
The Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines are made with modified messenger RNA (mRNA) technology.
The draft alert was attached to the email. The Epoch Times is working to acquire the draft alert.
“This censorship of a proposed alert in May of 2021 is just one more example of our regulatory agencies’ repeated pattern of behavior to censor any information that serves to counter the narrative that the COVID-19 vaccinations are ’safe and effective,’” Dr. Joel Wallskog, co-chair of the vaccine-injured advocacy group React19, told The Epoch Times via email.
The CDC started receiving reports of post-vaccination myocarditis in January 2021 and either failed to detect or ignored a safety signal for myocarditis and the mRNA shots the following month, previous reporting from the Epoch Times showed. The agency also hid a warning from Israel, the country that first vaccinated young people, who face the highest risk of myocarditis from
So, the alert died suddenly?
With Covid or from Covid?
Bailey is a big beleiver in The Science. Facts, not so much:
https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/eci.14136
Yes, I was looking for the links to this, but there are a number of studies that show that highly vaccinated people are getting covid infections at higher rates than unvaccinated.
Why Bailey shifted from “vaccinated people getting covid more than unvaccinated” to “not true, they die less” is a mystery that defies credulity.
Because it’s the only subsection of study that backs his pre-determined desired outcome. The more important point is that the goal has clearly been not to inform the general public about these vaccines, but to persuade, cajole and occasionally coerce the public into getting them even if that means telling them things that aren’t true. You can argue that the ends might justify the means there, but even so you can’t deny it’s dishonest.
oh hey completely o/t but I saw John Kerry on tv earlier today and I think there might be something to the child-blood theory because otherwise there are no medical reasons for John to still be alive
He’s the zombie overlord. The apocalypse is coming. And I don’t mean the climate apocalypse.
It’s pathetic how so many of these people hold onto their power till they practically keel over from old age.
Reason is really copying the MSM with using the word Lie for something a Republican says that maybe is untrue, but when have they used that word for a Democrat’s untruth?
They’re going further, they’re calling something that’s true a lie, and using an unrelated statistic to prove it false.
Disclosure: I was boosted with the XBB.1.5 vaccine in September.
Needs to dislcose how many time he has gotten covid. I can recall at least two.
The sound bite is from a Cleveland Clinic observational study, easily googled, that does actually show more positive tests for those more heavily boosted and concludes that it warrants further exploration.
Of course such studies can mislead, but had it turned out to look the opposite way, it would have been treated as gospel.
You seem to be the only person here that knows about that study, which is likely where RDS got his notion from. It’s likely true to some extent but not definitive. I’m guessing the mechanism would be imprinting.
The goof balls talking about more vaxxed or unvaxxed dying or showing myocarditis information have completely missed the boat.
The alleged COVID virus was never isolated and proven to make someone sick.
“The purpose of vaccination is to decrease the severity of diseases,” explained University of Tokyo virologist Kei Sato in JAMA. “Many people think that the purpose of vaccination is to prevent infection, but this is wrong.”
In 2022 that statement would be grounds for arrest, extraordinary rendition, and bans from government-sponsored social media.
It’s the beauty of Wikipedia, you can adjust what things mean as the meanings change.
I’d respond to this, but my polio has been acting up, so I’ll respond later.
And it doesn’t do even that anymore if the vaccine is too far behind the variant of the virus you catch.
You’ve got a lot of nerve calling John Campbell a grifter for bringing up that interpretation of data, which he acknowledged to be only one possible interpretation. Over the long run, Campbell has been more fair about data than most analysts I’ve seen of SARS-CoV2 and other health issues.
Well, getting the shots, and the boosters may not increase your chances of getting COVID-19, but they did increase your chances of getting actually sick (from the shot) and missing work. Many people caught COVID-19 and didn’t even know it until they took a test (and then had to miss 14, or 10, or later, 7 days of work), but almost everyone who got the first booster was sick for a day.
So what was the “lie”, Ronnie? Nothing in the article supports that accusation.
DeSantis (R)
The last three characters support all accusations.
(Ron DeSantis may or may not be ‘lying’, but we have years of proof that the CDC lies like a democrat votes, often)
Just for the record, every single person I know that got the vaccine and/or booster got the Communist Chinese Virus.
Every single one.
No one I know who refused the shots got the virus.
(small sample, granted)
That’s been my experience, also. I got the Novavax vaccine (an actual vaccine, not an mRNA shot) and haven’t had it.
Don’t think that I did, but not sure. Was Vaxed with Moderna in early 2021, and probably ne’er aught the virus.
It’s amazing that Bailey and Reason are _still_ pushing the unsafe and ineffective transfection agents. I’m curious if they’re getting paid a lot of money by Big Pharma and the government, or if they’re really all that stupid.
It’s not clear whence the governor got his misinformed soundbite, but the internet is filled with similar bogus claims by anti-COVID vaccine YouTube grifters like retired British nurse educator John Campbell. So what is really the case?
The fucking fuck? Fuck off, Reason.
Yeah, that line was especially rich coming from Ron “Boost Me Again Daddy” Bailey.
(I know you read the comments Ron, but what kind of malcontent would I be if I didn’t take a swipe at the writers.)
Robert Barnes argues Children’s Health Defense to Court of Appeals on vaccine requirement.
Core argument: FDA still has the emergency use authorization active which allows prescribing vaccines to infants. So you can’t declare this ‘moot’.
One judge: But wait, without the FDA there wouldn’t have been a COVID vaccine.
Whoa… what say you Libertarians?
There would have been a vaccine.
But a properly tested vaccine, with the side effects documented, the adverse effects monitored, and proper liability of the manufacturers, and choice of getting it or not.
(oh, yeah, and no congresscritters getting rich on stock deals)
The companies would also have full liability for their products should they prove to be ineffective/defective.
Yes, it would be better if the vaccine had been tested to your satisfaction, but you forget the conditions in which it was brought forward. Remember the bodies kept in refrigerated trucks because there was no other place to keep them. Remember the full to the brim hospitals. Remember those with treatable diseases who died in the ambulance, after waiting for hours for the hospital to be able to admit them.
Basically they were going against a deadline. And therefore they behaved as anyone going against a deadline do.
Really not that many bodies, and almost all of them were old people or those with very serious comorbidities. There was an early spike in deaths, but it was primarily a result of several governors ordering that people infected with the virus be placed in rest hoes and the like, filled with old people and those with very serious comorbidities, who quickly caught the virus, and died. Oh, and were placed on ventilators, which it is case, wee killers. By doing some quarantining of the elderly from those infected by the virus, and using ventilators as a last resort, not first, the death toll dropped off quickly.
That was impressive. Well done.
Remember the bodies kept in refrigerated trucks because there was no other place to keep them.
How could anyone forget? They were kept there for like 3 yrs., with the bodies still in them, well after the vaccine was widely available and the few (like a couple handfuls) people who had gone into impromptu overflow hospitals had been discharged. Mostly because they couldn’t identify the person or any living relatives/NOK to claim/refuse the body.
It really was a rushed 3 yrs., or two-weeks in COVID time, panic to figure out how best to handle all those bodies.
That’s mostly bullshit. Stop watching TV news.
Ha! The FDA lawyer is essentially claiming that the FDA is just that drunk college friend in the back seat telling you to turn left instead of turn right, so all the mandates, people fired, businesses closed, and general chaos created by vaccine mandates have nothing to do with the FDA, and therefore any lawsuits against the FDA lack standing.
Not making it up.
Great! I’m already drunk so go ahead and crack him in the head with a surgical 2×4*.
*Ah, back when the show was good: Of all of the crazy ideas you’ve had this one ranks somewhere in the middle.
Fauci pulled this same stunt.
DeSantis Repeats Lie That Booster Shots Make You More Likely To Get COVID
Evidence actually shows that vaccinated people are less likely to be hospitalized or die of the infection.
DeSantis’s statement is about excessive booster shots; your statement is about vaccinations, two different things.
For any kind of immune response, if you trigger it too frequently, you induce tolerance; that’s how desensitization to allergens works. That’s why we have carefully worked out vaccination schedules for other viruses.
It is likely that frequent COVID booster shots do increase the risk of serious illness relative to just the initial vaccination and possibly a single booster a year later.
DeSantis Repeats Lie That Booster Shots Make You More Likely To Get COVID
Go fuck yourself, Ron. I’m not vaxxed or boosted, DeSantis’ lies are immaterial to me. I do, however, remember you lamenting the tragedy of the commons and extolling the virtues of forced vaccinations during Zika. To wit, at worst DeSantis told a white lie and you and the company you keep crossed a line that can’t be uncrossed and that you publicly wished for beforehand and are trying to deflect from the fact that your hands are steeped in blood and resumes padded with unprecedented online censorship to go along with it. You. Dishonest. Pretentious. Pseudo-science. Dickbag.
I guess that whole “End of Doom” and “Let’s not go crazy with the precautionary principle!” thing was neither the principled libertarian exposition you hocked it as, nor the ticket to “fuck you money” you thought it would be.
Go get a booster of fucking yourself while you’re at it.
Hear hear!
“Every booster you take, you’re more likely to get COVID as a result of it.” Total bullshit.
It’s designed to trigger the immune response to COVID, and thus use that to build up immunity to it. So – yea, for all intents and purposes, every booster you take is basically giving yourself COVID. Or at least all its symptoms and effects, which is effectively the same thing for anyone not old, obese, and/or already sick.
Google the difference between an traditional vaccine and a mRNA vaccine. The former is built using years of study to introduce weaker strains that the human body can easily overcome and build immunity to. The mRNA is basically like a mom telling the neighbor kid with chicken pox to spit in her own kid’s mouth so that he gets it too and trigger the immune response.
Why is a person running for a US Presidents job even talking about Disease Control. Is Disease Control an enumerated power in the US Constitution?
I really don’t give a sh*t about DeSantis misrepresenting questionable information. The fact that his position is on the US Constitution side of things (UN-supporting of government lock-downs) he and Trump should be praised for as much.
The problem with Reason lately and the left is EVERYTHING and I mean bloody EVERYTHING has to be a Gov-‘Gun’ debate. Is reason going to tell you DeSantis is going to Gov-Gun mandate that vaccines are illegal (“banned”)? Where would one draw such a conclusion from one remark?
Dear Ronald Baily and Reason Magazine:
A study by Cleveland Clinic researchers of more than 50,000 vaccinated health care workers offered this as one of the conclusions:
“The risk of COVID-19 also varied by the number of COVID-19 vaccine doses previously received. The higher the number of vaccines previously received, the higher the risk of contracting COVID-19 (Figure 2).”
Here is a link to the study:

I don’t know how it’s possible for journalists to be repeatedly caught with their pants down by their own commenters and STILL have the gall to call someone else a grifter.
I mean, all evidence points to Reason and mainstream news as the biggest grifters of this century.
“Grifters” still feels like short-selling it. Grifters are at least honest as long as they’re getting paid, Reason and mainstream news vacillate between paid liars, inept liars, sycophantic liars, and compulsive liars.
“Yeah, I sell my SNAP stamps for cash to buy cigarettes, so what? What are you a cop?” vs. “We didn’t look, but we are not aware of anyone selling their SNAP stamps/card for cash to buy cigarettes, so it must not happen.”
“BA.2.86 may be more capable of causing infection in people who have previously had COVID-19 or who have received COVID-19 vaccines.” … “Clearly, all that it is saying is that the new variant may be capable of evading immune protection induced by either infection or vaccination.”
Nope! The original does NOT clearly say that and, in fact, begs the question, “More capable of causing infection … than what?” The CDC clarification may or may not clarify that original poorly worded statement, but the author of this article does not get a free pass to “interpret” it with a different spin than the anti-vaxxers do!
Too many librul marxist scientists. They are all dying from their own vaccines. You-Tuber on my Facebook feed said so.
1. DeSantis Repeats Lie That Booster Shots Make You More Likely To Get COVID
2. Evidence actually shows that vaccinated people are less likely to be hospitalized or die of the infection.
There are two unrelated statements here, one says “Get COVID” and one says “be hospitalized or die”
RONALD BAILEY must just like looking stupid.
I see Ron likes to conflate ‘vaccine safety’ with ‘mRNA skeptics’ and actual hardcore ‘anti-vaccine’ advocates.
Lazy and assholic.
And most of these ‘grifters’ supported the vaccine and got vaccinated.
Meanwhile, 2 recent studies show that the more covid shots you get, the higher incidence of getting covid:
2 recent studies from Cleveland Clinic
April 2023 https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37274183/
November 2023 https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0293449
What I find interesting is that DeSantis says “if you are jabbed you are more likely to GET Covid” but the secondary headline says “if you are jabbed you are less likely to be hospitalized or die from Covid.”
Funny that the authors didn’t catch this…or did they write it this way for a reason?
