Escalation in the Red Sea
Plus: Inheritance taxes, lady gadgets, a stabbing in South Korea, and more...

U.S. Navy sinks three Houthi boats: Starting in October, the Houthis—a group of Iran-backed Yemeni militants—staged a series of attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea. This past weekend, the situation got out of control: Houthis attacked a container ship, the Maersk Hangzhou, and U.S.S. Eisenhower carrier group helicopters responded to the distress call. Houthis started shooting, and the American helicopters responded, sinking three of the four Houthi boats and killing at least 10 people who were on board.
Iran claims it was not behind the attacks, but "ten days ago, the [Biden] administration declassified intelligence indicating that Iranian paramilitary groups were coordinating the Houthi attacks, providing targeting information about commercial shipping passing through the waterway and the Suez Canal."
Now the administration "must decide whether to strike Houthi missile and drone sites in Yemen, or wait to see whether the Houthis back off after the sinking of three of their fast boats and the deaths of their fighters," according to senior officials who spoke with The New York Times.
Yahya Saree, a Houthi spokesperson, said the Arab world ought to be "ready for all options in confronting the American escalation."
"The American enemy bears the consequences of this crime," said the Houthis, and no U.S. Navy actions can prevent the militants from "performing their religious, moral and humanitarian duty in support and aid of those who have been wronged in Palestine and Gaza."
"If attacks by Iran's proxies against U.S. forces continue, we will not hesitate to take further necessary measures to protect our people," said Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin back in October. Now, the U.S. is weighing how to handle the growing threat posed by the Houthis—as well as how to ensure safe passage for ships that must traverse the Red Sea, which is an essential route for about 12 percent of global commerce.
Scenes from New York:
Many migrants entering from the southern border will now suffer a terrible fate—landing in New Jersey.
Over the weekend, more than a dozen buses originally supposed to end up in New York instead dropped migrants off in New Jersey. Officials in the state say this is a direct result of a new emergency order recently issued by New York City Mayor Eric Adams, which "requir[es] charter bus companies to provide 32 hours' advance notice of the arrival of migrants and restrict[s] the times of day when they can be dropped off," per The New York Times. The buses were sent by Texas officials intent on forcing other states to share in the burdens imposed by the migrant crisis and/or galvanize political will against letting more migrants in.
The migrants continued on to New York City from their Jersey bus depots. Adams' attempt to impose order is in response to an untenable situation in which buses are chaotically dropping migrants off at Port Authority without notice, and the fact that the city has handled 161,500 asylum seekers since spring 2022, nearly 70,000 of whom continue to be provided housing or other social services paid for by taxpayers.

I believe it was Aristotle who observed that you should call no man happy until he is dead.
That saying originated at least two centuries earlier than Aristotle.
Solon (630-560BC): Call no man happy until he is dead, but only lucky. (Often mis-attributed to Croesus.)
Sophocles in Oedipus Rex (ca. 429 BC): Count no man blessed in his life until he's crossed life's bounds unstruck by ruin still.
Good news; it's a new year.
Bad news; it's an election year. (maybe)
Come to Virginia. Every year is an election year, for something.
With some Virginia candidates, it is an erection year.

No shit. Social media is inundated with this pro-Palestine astroturf.
If you believe the propaganda, Oct 7th never happened. Israel just decided to murder everyone in Gaza for no reason.
What's the number now? 20,000? Of course, they are nearly all children.
Obama changed the definition of child to be age 25 for ACA, so might be correct.
They have pretty much wiped out the entire next generation with their genociding. At this pace, the population in Gaza will only increase by 30% in the next decade.
Actually the idf has murdered eleventy billion palisitinians, mostly todlers
I thought it was over a kajillion. Misek says so.
And apparently no Hamas fighters, since they're never mentioned in the news, since Oct. 07.
Well Gaza residents now have the rights of Israelis. The right to respond as victims of genocidal or mass-murder trauma by doing whatever the fuck they want to whomever the fuck they want with complete moral immunity.
Not that this started on Oct 7. Nor will it be remembered as 'context' on the next Oct 7. Just the perpetual spiral of victims claiming the 'biggest victim' leeway.
But it will be ironic when the success of dealing with Hamas morphs into the next iteration of Hamas using all the grievances and victimhood and 'rights' created with these spirals.
"Well Gaza residents now have the rights of Israelis. The right to respond as victims of genocidal or mass-murder trauma by doing whatever the fuck they want to whomever the fuck they want with complete moral immunity..."
Approaching turd-level 'honesty' here, shit-for-brains.
Is both sides an addiction for you idiots you can never recognize who the aggressor ending cease fires is?
I swear JFree has gotten dumber over the last month.
That’s really saying something.
"The right to respond as victims of genocidal or mass-murder trauma by doing whatever the fuck they want to whomever the fuck they want"
Ya, watch out, they might do something like call for the death of all jews, bombard Israel with rockets non stop, and breach their borders to kill and rape as many people as they can.
Oh wait, they never needed a reason to do it last time, and they wont next time either.
they might do something like call for the death of all jews, bombard Israel with rockets non stop, and breach their borders to kill and rape as many people as they can.
Yes I can see how different that is than Netanyahu overtly calling for genocide; bombarding Gaza with the equivalent of the German bombing of London during the Blitz (or three nuclear bombs); and killing 22k+ civilians (which also happens to be more than civilian casualties during the London Blitz - or more than total IDF deaths during all Israel wars combined).
Hamas has always been a terrorist gang that is nowhere near an existential threat to Israel. Is Israel just Hamas' big brother now? Who gets the pedestal for biggest victim?
Soooo...Does "JFree" mean "Jew-Free" as in Judenrein?
Bye bye
Just admit it, J(ew)Free, you hate them.

Silicon Valley is testing censorship waters again as Facebook suspends libs of tik tok. After blow back they did rescind the suspension. But testing the waters.
https://nypost.com/2023/12/31/news/facebook-suspends-libs-of-tiktok-for-violating-community-standards/
I don’t do social media, but am wondering; when they suspend reposting of videos, do they also take down the original post?
Of course not.
Their theory is her posting the videos leads to death threats which is laughable.
She is posting their public videos. By that logic, maybe they shouldn't post them themselves.
There is no "logic" in these decision, only justifications.
Logical or legal consistency is a form of patriarchal white privilege.
Libs of TikTok is probably the best thing to happen in the last several years. No better display of the other side's awfulness than using their publicly shared videos to expose them. I love the fact that they see it as so bad it needs to be banned when they are sharing videos made by the people wanting it banned.
Ever see either of her confrontations with AOC? Very satisfying.
It's amazingly hilarious "logic".

Hey, how are we supposed to protect democracy if we can't lie about violating democratic laws and principles?
Wasn't jeff claiming just this weekend that it only ever happened once?
Most of what jeff claims are false narratives. And since this memo was discussed only at JTN he will yell opinion piece and deny the memo exists.
Especially after his narrative fell apart that the DoJ wasn’t involved in the initial “Parents protesting COVID measures and transgender grooming are potential terrorists” memo at all, when in fact they basically drafted the damn thing and simply had the School Board Council sign their name to it.
Jeff came back? Ugh. What a maroon.

Hey, that's not fair. NYC gets exactly the same amount of notice that the illegals are arriving as Texas does.
Officials in the state say this is a direct result of a new emergency order...
Sanctuary on a schedule. Compassion on a clock.
A kinder, gentler wall.
Not surprisingly, the state of California is leading the effort to get the Supreme Court to reverse a decision enjoining the government from censorship efforts. California has long sought to impose speech limits on doctors, businesses, and citizens to silence opposing viewpoints.
.
However, 23 Democrat-led states joined this ignoble effort in signing on to the brief of California Attorney General Rob Bonta. The brief lauds past efforts of these states to combat “harmful content” on the Internet and to protect the public from “misleading information” through partnerships with social media companies.
https://jonathanturley.org/2023/12/29/are-you-in-an-anti-free-speech-state-we-now-have-the-definitive-list/
Democrat power centers hate you. They don't want you thinking or speaking your thoughts against the state and more importantly the party. They spent too much to buy off legacy information sources to let you ruin it now.
Remember how several Reason editors voted for Biden “Strategically” because Trump was so bad for civil rights or something?
Good times.
Not just Biden. The 2016 election was also telling for some of those same editors who voted for Hillary Clinton and thought Trump was "the worst thing ever, ever". Both of those articles were rather revealing.
Remember all the Trump supporters calling libertarians "leftists" for opposing Trump's trade wars? Good to see they were so principled that they credit Biden for continuing them. Oh wait...
Remember when sarcasmic wanted good honest discussion but no one would help him?
https://reason.com/2023/12/15/in-godzilla-minus-one-government-wont-save-anyone-when-the-crisis-comes/?comments=true#comment-10359327
Yeah, but it's been a really long time.
Remember all the Trump supporters calling libertarians “leftists” for opposing Trump’s trade wars?
I don't, but I do remember someone with a strange definition of what constitutes a trade war. Why don't you remind us who called the one real libertarian a “leftist”, and what the actual topic was about.
It becomes a "war" as soon as a (R) takes action. See: "Culture Wars."
I dont call him a leftist for his ignorance on trade theory. I call him ignorant.
I do call him a leftist for defending the dem party so much and his constant shit flinging anytime a mild criticism of a Democrat is made to attack conservatives instead.
^THIS!^
I’m pretty sure the people that agreed with Trumps tariffs have posted agreement with Biden continuing them. Of course of the few articles that Reason has posted on the tariffs, they usually devolve into bitching about Trump and the comments spend more time on that than the actual policies.
Yep, see the newest Boehm article about US Steel. Whining about Trump, but not one word devoted to US Steel's labor issues over the years.
The most harmful content on the web is the democrat party platform.
And it all started when we let women vote.
Sorry, estrogen-crazed birthing persons.
You weren’t wrong.
Totally shocked to see Colorado on the list. /sarc
When I first moved here almost 20 years ago, it was a red leaning but purple state. It's now gone full progtard. You never go full progtard.
We need a wall around California even more than we need a southern border wall.
You can’t entirely blame California for that, though. There’s a whole book that’s been written about how the state’s left-wing Gang of Four millionaires, including the current governor, used their financial clout to turn the state blue starting with the 2006 mid-terms. Also, in the wake of the housing bubble, the state became a magnet not just for the tech industry, but a whole bunch of Atlantic coast Millennial shitlibs who were getting tired of east coast crowding, and wanted a relatively low cost, outdoors-oriented place to live. Most of these dickheads initially settled in Denver condos or bought up property in working class neighborhoods like Highland, and eventually filtered out to the northern suburbs as they aged. Also, bear in mind that the Denver metro’s native Gen-Xers are some of the biggest shitlib morons in the state, and lot of this can actually be put on their shoulders.
Post-pandemic, they’ve been migrating down to Colorado Springs and mountain towns like Crested Butte, after their odious presence shat up the Denver metro and turned it into a Calhoun rat experiment.
Fast forward to 2023, and the state is run by a bunch of drug-addled, mentally ill poopots, PeeOhhSee hood rats, and overeducated neoyuppie slimebags who are constantly shitting up the state with the latest Good Idea Fairy idiocy.
And I am still pissed off about the special state legislature session called by Governor McDreamy to ram through the same progressive tax laws that voters rejected by referendum in November. But Democracy!, right?
Not to mention the only reason that was even brought to a public referendum was because the limp-wrists in the state house convinced the Front Range’s slack-jawed, drooling voter base to get rid of the Gallagher Amendment, resulting in the entirely predictable consequence of property tax rates going through the roof.
All that incident proved the Iron Law of Progressivism that leftists love talking about increasing tax rates, but always expect the person who makes $1 a year more than them to actually foot the bill.
At this point, Putler dropping strategic nukes on Denver and the entire Turnpike corridor from Broomfield to Boulder would be doing the whole state a massive favor.
They can have my TABOR refund for that.
Boulder is a mini-california. The shitlibs are on another level. You can smell the woke as you walk around.
And the rest of the corridor followed right behind them post-2006. I'm not even joking. When I grew up in Broomfield, it was a pretty conservative bedroom community run mostly by Republican professionals, and had been ever since the Broomfield Heights subdivison was platted and built (the developer was Aksel Nielsen, a donor and buddy of Dwight Eisenhower's, and the city library is named after Mamie).
Today, it's just another bog-standard wine socialist suburb, with a dyke mayor who's only been living there for about a decade now, and city council members who spend more time chasing the latest shitlib laser light than ensuring the community is functional.
"You can smell the woke as you walk around."
It smells of brimstone and rotting flesh?
More like patchouli oil, pot smoke, and meth.
To cover the smell of brimstone and rotting flesh?
There’s a whole book that’s been written about how the state’s left-wing Gang of Four millionaires, including the current governor, used their financial clout to turn the state blue starting with the 2006 mid-terms.
Do you know the name of the book? Sounds like something I wouldn't mind rage-reading. I know we have problems other than Californians moving in, but they're an easy target to dunk on.
Yeah, it's called "The Blueprint" by Adam Schrager and Rob Witwer.
Thanks, might have to check that out the next time I feel the need to rip my hair out in frustration.
I saw a documentary about how Colorado turned blue recently. TONS of money, lots coming from out of state, poured into progressive causes in the state, mostly environmentalism. Just overwhelm people with the greenist rhetoric so they're worried about doing enough, and then promote candidates who claim they're doing everything possible to save the environment.
A lot of this really comes down to public school indoctrination. The greenie shit was all over my schooling when I was in public schooling in the 90s, getting kids terrified that that their plastic waste is all killing turtles and birds, and that the world is running out of water. It's only gotten worse since and turned younger generations into religious zealots on the issue.
Yeah, I remember all the jerking off over Earth Day during its 20th anniversary. I even had an 8th grade teacher unironically tell me that the earth probably couldn't handle more than a billion people.
This wasn't Current Year, this was late 80s-early 90s. This climate cult shit has been going on for a long time, after relatively simple measures like catalytic converters and environmental cleanup laws didn't sate their appetite for control.
Just remember though, the gnostics running this scam aren't terrified of the end of the planet, they just see it as a tool to leverage their efforts to bring about global communism.
Yeah, I remember the panic, too, from like 30 years ago, claiming we'd exceeded the earth's caring capacity. As a kid that's kind of scary, but then you become an adult and realize just how much arable land there is which we aren't even using. It's ridiculous. If we wanted to, we could shut down agriculture everywhere in the world except the United states and still feed the entire world's population.
And that's without resorting to expensive measures like desalination. If we were near the earth's caring capacity, we'd be constantly tapping into saltwater reserves and running desalination plants all across coastlines, with pipelines carrying water to inland areas. Even if we reach a future where such a thing is necessary, the vast amounts of water in the oceans make this completely viable because water is a cycle, and water ends up back in the oceans anyway.
We could probably increase the population of earth by an order of magnitude and not feel the pinch.
What's really aggravating is how the Davos crowd seems determined to artificially reduce the population in the service of their terror, instead of letting nature take its course and determine that naturally, like it's been for millions of years. In fact, instead of actually working on ways to accommodate the populations that are here, they seem to be far more focused on actually making things worse by artificially limiting supplies of food and housing--such as the anti-farmer laws in European countries, or the limitations on housing development in the EU and FVEY nations while those same countries' leaders encourage mass immigration from the Third World.
I am also not well pleased with the people trying to exterminate humanity.
...
Are we sure they aren't lizard aliens come to steal the planet?
It just goes to show what the greeniacs really want!
A smaller population is easier to control.
And they must know that a command economy can in no way support a large number of people, if any.
The Climate hysteria started before the first Earth day. That's how we got Nixon's EPA. Even the Manson clan was into eco bs. This is one movement that definitely can be laid on the boomers.
There's at least something to be said about the social push for cleaner air (though not the EPA). There was a time when we were throwing lots of gross black stuff into the air via power plants and industrial mills. We've gotten to the point that even coal burning plants, using scrubbers, are mostly throwing off steam and C02. Smog has disappeared.
But there's a huge grift there to exploit. We got cleaner air, but the Clean Air lobby never went away.
But in Climapocalypse 1.0, we were all going to freeze to death in a new ice age.
TBF, water use is a real issue. Of course, if the government wasn’t subsidizing alfalfa farmers in the desert, it might not be so dire.
The interesting part is that Reclamation's most famouse commissioner, Floyd Dominy, is on record stating that those farms were never meant to be some kind of baronial estate. They were created specifically with basic subsistence in mind, under a Jeffersonian yeoman farmer philosophy.
What's really fucked up a lot of water use in the west is the fact that these states all use a water law (prior appropriation) that was created explicitly for California gold rush mining claims, not agriculture. So water is treated similar to mineral rights, instead of a common resource that has to be sustained. This isn't a big deal when the region goes through a wet period, as it did for most of the 20th century, but save for a year here and there, the 21st century has largely been one of persistent low precipitation.
This isn't unusual in that the region is naturally dry, anyway, but pile on a whole shitload of population growth in conjunction with most of that water going to agriculture, and you're going to have problems. Phoenix and surrounding towns have tried to make up for it by pumping groundwater, and now they're seeing sinkholes pop up because the aquifer is too low to keep the ground from collapsing. Albquerque does the same thing, but they've held off on that for now due to a general lack of population growth over the last 20 years.
The real solution is to redraw the states according to the watershed map that Powell drew up, and replace prior appropriation with riparian rights, but that's obviously DOA in Congress because it would completely turn the nation's electoral status quo upside down.
Interesting, I didn’t know that about the farms.
Or corn, for gasoline poisoning ethanol.
Can’t forget corn. Or if I remember my trip through NM and AZ, almonds.
Pecans actually, I think. But at least those are being grown as food, and not an intentional pollutant to petrol.
Water usage is not a global climate issue, though. It's related to issues in a locality, and usually the greatest problem is shitty government policy rather than people taking showers with actually decent water pressure. Water problems are not in a lack of existing water, but in distribution.
Same thing happened to NM, only it didn't take nearly as much money.
We need a wall around California even more than we need a southern border wall.
Yep. I saw more CA plates over the holidays than I recall all summer.
And it's important to keep in mind that the center-right is all on board with this, too. They absolute LOVE the surveillance state and will defend state-run censorship with every fiber of their being.
The training materials included in the CTI files intended for people who are going to review domestic speech featured a quote from the joint chiefs of staff, “talking about how you have to use certain tactics to defeat your enemy,” Mr. Taibbi said. Thus, trainees learned to treat other Americans as the enemy, he added.
This is how Bidens government describes the need for censorship.
https://www.zerohedge.com/political/whistleblower-docs-expose-key-tactics-censorship-industrial-complex-matt-taibbi
If deplorables aren't the enemy then who is?
Yes Sarcasmic. Reason is absolutely failing its duties as a libertarian magazine in failing to tackle this, and yes deliberately ignoring this when it goes against everything your supposed to represent is a form of colluding.
Adams' attempt to impose order is in response to an untenable situation in which buses are chaotically dropping migrants off at Port Authority without notice...
Keep that chaos in the red border states where it belongs.
What good is cynical virtue signalling if you're going to be forced to live up to the ideals you espouse?
I let my immigrant servants deal with that.
Anyone know where a city mayor gets the power to regulate interstate transportation?
^Even the mayors are citing the FUTW clause now...
Article 1, section FYTW
Any chance this gets legally challenged and overturned like when Arizona tried to enforce its part of the border?
Just as reminder, during COVID panic, I had to imagine that the mayor of Champaign IL *had* to have had her maniacal plan at the ready, probably in a special red folder in the center drawer of her desk, just waiting for the chance to unleash her dream of ultimate power. This was her set of orders on March 13th, 2020. And they call Trump "authoritarian".
What Constitution?
https://bloximages.newyork1.vip.townnews.com/wandtv.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/5/51/551ced24-6535-11ea-9826-4f4fd396dacb/5e6b960454b21.pdf.pdf
After the declaration of an emergency, the Mayor may in the interest of public safety and welfare make any or all of the following orders and provide the following direction:
(1) Issue such other orders as are imminently necessary for the protection of life and property.
(2) Order a general curfew applicable to such geographical areas of the City or to the City as a whole, as the Mayor deems advisable, and applicable during such hours of the day or night as the Mayor deems necessary in the interest of public safety and welfare.
(3) Order the closing of all retail liquor stores, including taverns and private clubs or portions thereof wherein the consumption of intoxicating liquor and beer is permitted;
(4) Order the discontinuance of the sale of alcoholic liquor by any wholesaler or retailer;
(5) Order the discontinuance of selling, distributing, or giving away gasoline or other liquid flammable or combustible products in any container other than a gasoline tank properly affixed to a motor vehicle;
(6) Order the discontinuance of selling, distributing, dispensing or giving away of explosives or explosive agents, firearms or ammunition of any character whatsoever;
(8) (a) Order City employees or agents, on behalf of the City, to take possession of any real or personal property of any person, or to acquire full title or such lesser interest as may be necessary to deal with a disaster or emergency, and to take possession of and for a limited time, occupy and use any real estate to accomplish alleviation of the disaster, or the effects thereof; (b) In the event any real or personal property is utilized by the City, the City shall be liable to the owner thereof for the reasonable value of the use or for just compensation as the case may be.
...
They added a "Plus anything else we think of later" rule.
(30) Issue any and all such other orders or undertake such other functions and activities as the Mayor reasonably believes is required to protect the health, safety, and welfare of persons or property within the City or otherwise preserve the public peace or abate, clean up, or mitigate the effects of any emergency or disaster.
At least one of which was supposed to be enforceable outside the city limits...
(18) Suspend or limit burning of any items or property with the City limits and up to two (2) miles outside the corporate limits.
So yeah, I can see how a mayor might think they can control interstate commerce.
to take possession of and for a limited time, occupy and use any real estate to accomplish alleviation of the disaster, or the effects thereof
They even went for third amendment violations. You don't see that very often.
(18) Suspend or limit burning of any items or property with the City limits and up to two (2) miles outside the corporate limits.
This is hilarious. Outside of obvious jurisdiction arguments, why restrict burning?
What an absolute shock that a rat-faced feminist mayor of a marxist college town started rubbing her clit at the thought of violating Constitutional rights.
Academia proves every day that they are going to have to be socially cleansed.
She learned it from Beetlejuice.
She learned it from Beetlejuice.
Which part? The constitutional rights violations or the clit rubbing?
Surely "emergency powers" will be invoked next.
Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker declares public safety emergency
In her first official act since being inaugurated Tuesday, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker signed an executive order declaring a citywide public safety emergency and directing the Police Department to develop “comprehensive plans” that address crime across the city.
The order directs new Police Commissioner Kevin J. Bethel to work with Managing Director Adam Thiel and other city department heads to deliver a plan within 100 days detailing how they will hire more police officers, reduce violent crime, quell quality-of-life offenses, and “permanently shut down all pervasive open-air drug markets.”
And it directs the commissioner to employ “any lawful means necessary to abate the public safety emergency.”
Emergency powers. Duh.

Nothing shows confidence in your stance like blocking dissent.
As our resident individualist will point out, there must be a consensus on speech or it's just disinformation.
It also looks like religious fervor.
It absolutely is. The green movement is extremely religious, requiring sacrifices, penance, and has its own version of original sin. Have you read the infamous article by Jared Diamond claiming the Agricultural Revolution was the worst mistake in human history? We should all go back to being hunter gatherers, with a worldwide population of a couple million people.
We used to live in a hunting-gathering Eden, then some asshole ate from the Tree of Knowledge and now we're all sinners, cast out from the garden forever.
Yup. Avoiding 80% child mortality is Euro-centric colonial industrial privilege.
We should all go back to being hunter gatherers, with a worldwide population of a couple million people.
Challenge accepted. The fastest, greenest option would be for the ruralites stop sending food to the urbanites.
Well, at least we'd be free to gambol about the plain.

Perhaps NY mayor Adams could find a way to deal with the tens of thousands of illegals on the taxpayer dole similar to how then NY governor Cuomo dealt with the seniors crisis during covid.
He's working on a final solution. It's much more efficient to just run the flamethrowers at one place for 3 hours a day than to spend resources hunting them down throughout the city and much cheaper than letting them sponge off the resources he needs to buy votes.
Flamethrowers? That doesn't sound very Carbon Neutral.

Shrike.... how is what Trump did worse than what democrats currently do with removing him from the ballots? How is it worse than the numerous election challenges in history including Gore?
There's a slight difference between trying to steal an election and enforcing the Constitution, but I can see why you missed it.
Whatever the facts actually are, attempting to steal requires intent. It's not illegal to be wrong. I can't speak to Trump's actual state of mind, and I'm not convinced that the election was stolen, but I don't see any particular reason not to believe that he did in fact believe that he was trying to stop an election from being stolen.
Obviously just KNOWS he tried to steal it!
"There’s a slight difference between trying to steal an election and enforcing the Constitution, but I can see why you missed it."
There is a major difference between obviouslyfullofshit and a sentient human being, and it's clear that obviouslyfullofshit misses it.

Cutest part of the idiots rant is he doesn't think exposing voter fraud is constitutional. Petitioning courts isn't constitutional. Using free speech rights, not constitutional.
ONS is an idiot.
1:09 P.M. ET: Rep. Jim McGovern of Massachusetts rose to object to the certificate from Alabama.
“The electors were not lawfully certified, especially given the confirmed and illegal activities engaged by the government of Russia,” McGovern said.
Biden denied McGovern on the grounds that he didn’t have a senator’s signature on his written objection.
1:14 P.M.: Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland rose to object to 10 of Florida’s 29 electoral votes.
“They violated Florida’s prohibition against dual office holders,” Raskin said.
Again, despite the fact that Raskin pointed out that he had his objection in writing, he failed to get a senator’s signature.
1:15 P.M.: No sooner had the Florida question been settled than its neighbor to the north was the subject of another objection, when Washington’s Rep. Pramila Jayapal objected to Georgia’s vote certificate.
“It is over,” Biden told the congresswoman.
1:21 P.M.: Rep. Barbara Lee of California brought up voting machines and Russian hacking when she objected following the counting of Michigan’s votes.
“People are horrified by the overwhelming evidence of Russian interference in our election,” Lee said.
Once again, her objection was denied for the lack of a senator’s signature. They also turned off her microphone.
1:23 P.M.: After New York’s tally was read, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas stood up to object.
“I object on the massive voter suppression that included –” Jackson Lee began.
“The debate is not in order,” Biden interrupted. Again, the congresswoman lacked a senator’s signature.
1:28 P.M.: Arizona’s Rep. Raul Grijalva rose to object after North Carolina’s tally. He tried to object on violations of the Voting Rights Act, but Biden shut him down.
As you may have guessed, he didn’t have the signature of a senator.
Once he gave up, Jackson Lee tagged him out and tried to object to the votes herself. They cut off her microphone, too.
“There is no debate. There is no debate. There is no debate,” a visibly agitated Biden said as he gaveled.
1:31 PM: Jackson Lee made another appearance minutes later after South Carolina’s certification.
“There is no debate in the joint session,” Biden said, shutting her down once more.
1:36 PM: Biden must have thought, after five minutes of peace and getting through the state of West Virginia, that the House members might observe the rules. Lee wasn’t even able to make it through her objection before Biden said, “There is no debate.”
They cut off her microphone again.
1:37 PM: Wisconsin’s votes had been read. With just Wyoming to go, the finish line was in reach.
Jackson Lee once again tried to make an objection on the grounds of Russian interference in the election.
“The objection cannot be received,” Biden said.
1:38 PM: The final state’s votes had been read. Then entered California Rep. Maxine Waters.
Taking a play from her own book – she objected to the certification of George W. Bush’s 2000 election – Waters admitted that she didn’t have a senator’s signature on her objection.
“I wish to ask: Is there one United States senator who will join me in this letter of objection?” Waters asked. Through House Speaker Paul Ryan’s chuckle and boos from the rest of the chamber, it was clear that there was not.
1:40 PM: The states were counted, but three protestors started yelling from the visitors’ gallery of the chamber. At least one of them was reciting the Constitution as he was taken away by security.
Biden did not look thrilled.
But at the end of the day, despite the objections, Trump’s election was certified by Congress.
"That's different because fuck you!"
It is not hypocrisy; it is heirarchy.
Imagine Trump doing the same for Biden...
Considering that Pence did certify the 2020 election....
And Trump left the WH on the appointed day at the appointed time without having to be shackled or manhandled…

That might explain "The Florida Issue" and the Florida stories.
"Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. "
Polls mean nothing when the votes will keep being "discovered" and counted (despite obvious reasons to invalidate many many ballots) until the proper winner total is reached.
Speaking of polls..."no widespread fraud"
Over 20% of voters who used mail-in ballots say they’ve engaged in some form of voter fraud, a recent poll by Rasmussen Reports and The Heartland Institute finds.
According to the survey, 21% of likely voters who utilized mail-in or absentee ballots say they filled out a ballot, in part or in full, on behalf of a friend or family member.
Nineteen percent (19%) of those who cast mail-in votes say a friend or family member filled out their ballot, in part or in full, on their behalf. Furthermore, 17% of mail-in voters say that in the 2020 election, they cast a ballot in a state where they were no longer a permanent resident.
Justin Haskins, director of the Socialism Research Center at the Heartland Institute, called the results of the poll “nothing short of stunning.”
“For the past three years, Americans have repeatedly been told that the 2020 election was the most secure in history,” he said. “But if this poll’s findings are reflective of reality, the exact opposite is true.”
"Most secure election in history" does not mean what you think. Or maybe it does.
They were saying "most secured election" in history.
Furthermore, 17% of mail-in voters say that in the 2020 election, they cast a ballot in a state where they were no longer a permanent resident.
Pretty sure left-wing college students have been doing this shit for a while now.

There was a WSJ story years ago about a man who had to be out-of-town on business.
———- As Isaac Pollak, an ardent Republican, kissed his wife goodbye before heading out on a business trip to Asia several years ago, he handed her his absentee ballot for the coming presidential election and asked her to mail it.
Bonnie Pollak, a Democrat, weighed her options. Should she be loyal to her spouse, respect his legal right and mail the ballot? Or remain faithful to her deeply held beliefs and suppress his vote?
“It was a real dilemma,” says Ms. Pollak, 58 years old, a student in a doctoral program in social welfare who lives in Manhattan. “I decided to do the right thing.”
Ms. Pollak threw the ballot away.
——-
She “did the right thing” and threw his ballot away.
Years later, she fessed up to the husband, who became very angry and said that he never trusted his wife again and that action almost ruined their marriage.

Who wants to bet on the next DNC step after banning Trump from state ballots? What about banning seditious states from the Electoral College?
What about banning seditious states from the Electoral College?
With "seditious state" defined as any state where the "wrong person" won.
To be fair, we could start by banning the states who joined the Confederacy, right?
That would depend, of course, on Trump winning via the Electoral College again.
I can absolutely guarantee, 100%, that Democrats in states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Arizona will be working overtime to get electors in place that will actually vote for Biden in the event their “ballot harvesting” isn’t enough to overcome actual votes.
Also, expect some chaos when they try Georgia-type tricks like kicking the election observers out and suspending vote counting over a “busted water main,” and the GOP observers getting arrested when they absolutely refuse to leave.
That never happened! but even if it did it wasnt widespread. And even if it was widespread it didnt affect the outcome.
So there you have it
Under which part of the Constitution would that be authorized?
Democrat response: "Here's this made-up legalistic bullshit that we concocted to justify our clearly partisan political decision."
"Front of mind for those voters is what has been an Achilles heel for Biden"
Is that what keeps causing him to topple over?
Adams' attempt to impose order is in response to an untenable situation in which buses are chaotically dropping migrants off at Port Authority without notice, and the fact that the city has handled 161,500 asylum seekers since spring 2022, nearly 70,000 of whom continue to be provided housing or other social services paid for by taxpayers.
Without notice... like illegals crossing the southern border? 161k? So just over half what southern states saw in December alone?

The rise of the "Welfare Industrial Complex"
Why are GDP and jobs defying slowdown predictions? Because most new jobs -- 56% -- are disguised government spending.
In states like Illinois and New York, they make up between 113% and 121% of new jobs.
In other words, the rest of the economy is actually shrinking. Only the the government is growing.
GDP also is government spending. Where most of the growth occurred as companies prepare for layoffs this year.
Thank God Biden gave fed work from home slaves another 5.2% raise.
Our deficit is currently running around 8% of GDP. Any growth less than that is just government debt. Not a good sign. Plus, tax revenues were down 9% on the year. How can we have strong economic growth and decreasing tax revenue? I sure as hell didn't get a tax cut in the last two years.
How can they make up over 100% of new jobs?
Simplified example:
Government sees 120 jobs added
Private Sector sees 20 jobs leave
Net jobs added is 100; Government jobs added (120)is 120% of net jobs added (100)
Double woke standards.
https://www.spiked-online.com/2024/01/02/why-do-feminists-turn-a-blind-eye-to-islamists/
Would you say that feminists' attitude towards Israelis is similar to conservatives' attitude towards illegals?
I've not seen any conservatives denying illegals get raped by the coyotes bringing them here. Does not make it our concern.
Was there a point to this?
Point is I doubt conservatives give a shit because illegals are illegal and deserve whatever they get, just as anti-Zionists see Israelis as invaders who deserve whatever they get.
Why do you doubt that, sarc? Every indication I've seen is that they do care that these folks are coming into the country illegally, without any proper documentation of through the proper immigration channels, essentially throwing the rule of law aside.
So what if they're raped or murdered on the way? They're illegal. Not human.
Um, where the fuck did this come from? Do you have a citation or a link stating this?
The people you are describing don't have sympathy for Israelis because they view the Jews as invaders, pushing Palestinians off what's left of their land. As such they deserve what they get.
From what I've seen that's the same attitude that conservatives have towards illegal "invaders" from the south.
And I asked for evidence of this view. Most conservatives I know are more concerned about the following with the migrants:
1. That Biden's Administration is releasing them into the country without any regard to the rights of citizens or any proper documentation for the Illegal aliens.
2. Who is encouraging them to migrate northward and telling them that they will have free stuff given to them in the US?
3. That the Administration seems to be trying to use them for their own benefit.
And I asked for evidence of this view.
The dehumanizing of illegals is on full display in these comments every single day. As far as the rest goes, I really don't believe the "It's all about welfare" excuse. Not one bit. Regardless, complaining about the cost of illegal immigration while ignoring Social Security and Medicare is akin to playing the fiddle while Rome burns.
I'll remember this the next time there's an article about the mistreatment of illegals, and your tribe falls back on appeal to authority while deriding anyone who voices any concern.
You're deliberately being vague with your assertions. I asked for hard, concrete evidence, links and citations. Give something concrete, sarc, or as far as I'm concerned, you're simply blowing bullshit.
sarcasmic 13 seconds ago
I’ll remember this the next time there’s an article about the mistreatment of illegals, and your tribe falls back on appeal to authority while deriding anyone who voices any concern.
Asking for hard, concrete evidence is not falling back on any appeal to authority.
Your constant refrain of "Rule of law" is an appeal to authority, especially because it implies that the current immigration laws are perfectly fine and just.
While I don't have a specific citation of you deriding people for being concerned over abuse of illegals, I'm quite certain something will be in the news soon enough.
How much of a hangover do you have from New Year's?
Your constant refrain of “Rule of law” is an appeal to authority, especially because it implies that the current immigration laws are perfectly fine and just.
It's rule of law as oppose to rule of man, i.e. everyone is supposed to be subject to the same law as opposed to it applying for one group, but not another. Do you even understand those therms?
"Asking for hard, concrete evidence is not falling back on any appeal to authority."
It is if you're a lying pile of lefty shit without a shred of evidence.
Your constant refrain of “Rule of law” is an appeal to authority,
What? I hear the center-right spout this phrase constantly when it comes to Trump and social conservatives. Are they indulging in the same appeal?
Are you really shocked sarc isn't backing up his bald assertions?
And we all remember the card in Monopoly community chest that says "got molested while committing a crime, pass the border, collect welfare."
Are you really shocked sarc isn’t backing up his bald assertions?
Not really. But, one should push him to provide the evidence anyway.
Sarc' back to lying his way out again I see.
“So what if they’re raped or murdered on the way? They’re illegal. Not human.”
How, again, is that our responsibility?
If a criminal breaks into your house and dies because he fell on some nails on your floor — that is not YOUR fault in the slightest.
Hate to see them raped/hurt/killed. I'd suggest not paying coyotes who do that and simply not come here.
If a criminal breaks into your house and gets hurt because he fails on some nails, you can be sued.
Only in retarded states.
I don't know where you are getting the notion a conservative would not be happy to throw the book at a coyote accused of raping and murdering his clients.
The problem.is there is not much that can be effectively done when people looking to evade the law put themselves at the mercy of criminals.
One could even say encouraging illegal immigration knowing about the high incident of rape is wrong. You know people like sarc and Joe.
Convincing them they can get free things once here to encourage even more.
This even includes the use of children in false family units that exploded under Joe Biden as he stopped familial DNA testing for the most part, up to 28 days backlog on tests but released after 3 days.
In fact, I think some conservatives have asked for greater border security in part because of the horrible circumstances happening to people as they try to enter.
To be frank, I think sarc is simply trying for the lamest attempt at "Boaf Sidez" I've seen in a while.
He's failing and flailing.
No, I am concerned about it and I wish the fucking Democrats would stop making the southern border an attractive nuisance that incentivizes people to put themselves in that situation to get here.
How so, sarc?
No.
Uh, no. US feminists denying the accounts of Israeli women directly contradicts their statements for the past few decades. If by conservatives you mean people who want tighter border control, that has been consistent for a long time.
If you take the colonizer argument to its logical conclusion, the “Palestinians” should have done a better job of enforcing their borders 80 years ago.

I'm not sure which 'Western feminists' have failed to condemn the violence perpetrated on Israelis on Oct.7. Certainly none who've appeared on TV or in the press, where an initial statement of condemnation of Hamas is de rigueur. This applies to all Westerners appearing in the media regardless of their attitudes of feminism.
"If we want to advance women’s freedom around the world, then we cannot ignore the misogyny of the Islamists. "
There is something here. Western feminists tend to see the events of Oct. 7 as a part of the long standing struggle between Palestinians and Israel. I don't think I've seen any attempt to cast Oct. 7 as an assault of Islamists on women of the world.
Nobody cares, trueman. Fuck off and die in a fire.
UN Women specifically did not do so for weeks.
And the Islamic world's treatment of women is quite well known.
"UN Women specifically did not do so for weeks."
And how many managed to get themselves prominently displayed on western TV or press? Anyone, man, woman, feminist, or misogynist who has appeared on western media to discuss Gaza, was immediately prompted to denounce Hamas and the violence of Oct. 7. The notion that 'western feminists' were exempt from this ritualistic requirement is ridiculous.
"And the Islamic world’s treatment of women is quite well known."
Spiked magazine is not much better. Their misogyny is so deep that they feel it necessary to smear all western feminists. Ten words denouncing western feminists for every one word denouncing murderers and rapists.
Spiked magazine is not much better. Their misogyny is so deep that they feel it necessary to smear all western feminists. Ten words denouncing western feminists for every one word denouncing murderers and rapists.
I demand an example of Spiked's misogyny, liar.
I was responding to a longish quote posted by InsaneTrollLogic. I suggest you read that and get back to me if you are still in doubt.
Where exactly is there misogyny at Spiked, and in particular, within the article, Misconstrueman? It seems to me that the author, a woman, is calling out the double standards.
"Where exactly is there misogyny at Spiked,"
Denouncing 'western feminists.' Engaging in overly broad caricature to promote an ideological agenda. I already made the point, which nobody has disputed, that ritualistic condemnation of Palestinian violence is required of anyone who appears in the media to discuss Gaza. I assume you read what you posted and are familiar with the contents. Perhaps I'm wrong.
So it's the "ritualistic condemnation of Palestinian violence" that bothers you, not the fact that routine misogyny occurs in most of the Islamic world, and is never called out by Western feminists, especially third-wave woke feminists?
"So it’s the “ritualistic condemnation of Palestinian violence” that bothers you"
I'm not bothered. It's entirely predictable. I'm telling you the contents of the quote you posted, and why it's crap. What bothers me is that you can't spot misogynistic garbage when you see it and have to ask others point it out to you.
"I’m not bothered...."
Nobody cares, trueman. Fuck off and die in a fire.
"What bothers me is that you can’t spot misogynistic garbage when you see it and have to ask others point it out to you."

"Misconstrueman slings bullshit."
Fear not. I'll be slinging unmisogynistic bullshit throughout the year. I invite all western feminists to join me.
Misogynistic or not, it'll still be bullshit.
Says the asshole who rhapsodizes China with it’s history of foot-binding before Communism and forced abortions under Communism.
And criticizing Western Feminists, especially when they don't stand against Islamofascism, is not misogyny, Dummy!
The forced abortions started with the Capitalist Roader Deng. Mao was a committed natalist, as well as an opponent to foot binding.
"And criticizing Western Feminists"
A strange reaction, I agree. Gazan inmates escape their prison and rape some Israeli women, but it's western feminists we choose to criticize. Using these acts of violence as a cudgel against never defined 'western feminists' is highly distasteful as well as strange.
"They 'choose' to wear burkas"

True. Our first two wars were against Islamic pirates capturing our ships and Citizens on the high seas.

The Houthis sinking some of our woke Navy would probably be doing the country a favor at this point.
'Over the weekend, more than a dozen buses originally supposed to end up in New York instead dropped migrants off in New Jersey. Officials in the state say this is a direct result of a new emergency order recently issued by New York City Mayor Eric Adams, which "requir[es] charter bus companies to provide 32 hours' advance notice of the arrival of migrants and restrict[s] the times of day when they can be dropped off," per The New York Times.'
Sounds like that MAGA border control stuff.
And the Mayor of Edison NJ (Team D, of course), just blocked a bus from disembarking and ordered the bus back to the border. NJ is a sanctuary state. Just ask our Governor, Phailing Phil Murphy.
So much for Sanctuary State. Phailing Phil Murphy is the worst kind of politician...a stinking, uber-wealthy, uber-lib, lying sack of shit. And whose wife is running for NJ Senate. No conflict there at all.
Team D politicians talk the good game, pass stupid laws about being a sanctuary state, and then hypocritically don't deliver. Then they wonder why people are so disgusted. They make themselves look like total fools.
Perhaps suits should be filed about it.

Shit, I just want to know how they can prevent a bus from dropping off passengers.
Same here. And If these people have been processed at a port of entry they are free to go anywhere they want until their court date. That’s the law. This mayor is breaking the law whether NJ is a sanctuary city or not.

Virtue delivery is much harder than virtue signaling.
Is Adams at all concerned with the problems created by several times that many "migrants" chaotically released by the border patrol in much smaller towns in Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona? Or any other Democrat, aside from a minority in the border states?
This is raging hypocrisy.

Oh no...
But anyway...

How can that be? I've been told many times that immigrants are ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS net positive.
Next you'll tell me that Newsoms plan to put 700k illegal aliens into CalCare for free health insurance will also be a net positive and will not make their $60+B budget deficit worse?

Thank god. The original list was too disinformationy.
It's going to be disappointing to a lot of people who hope for too much.
If there was someone even remotely high profile on that list they are working off of, it would have been leaked already.

Iran claims it was not behind the attacks, but "ten days ago, the [Biden] administration declassified intelligence indicating that Iranian paramilitary groups were coordinating the Houthi attacks, providing targeting information about commercial shipping passing through the waterway and the Suez Canal."
I'm always skeptical of using classified reports to build up war fervor among the population. It's telling people we have to go to war with these guys because of reasons we're not allowed to see. They've done a whole bunch of terrible things but we can't prove it because the proof is classified. So trust us, they're bad, and please send us your sons so we can send them to war with the bad guys.
It's not like Presidents don't have a history of claiming they need to intervene internationally to distract from their unpopular domestic agenda. Gulf of Tonkin, for one.
Yeah, but did we send $5 billion to North Vietnam first?
Yes, probably.
Is that the most recent event that comes to mind?
Not, I don't know, the invasion of Iraq?
That's of a slightly different character, IMO. The single pressing issue of the early aughts WAS the war on terror, so it was used as a pretense to topple a problematic political figure. That wasn't about building war fervor, it already existed at the time. What happened was the CIA and the Bush administration just re-directed the existing pro-military, pro-war sentiment toward an unrelated target.
Not defending it, just showing it's got a different type of nuance to it. Right now, you have an American public that really doesn't want any more foreign wars, but the entrenched Defense apparatus is trying to convince everyone that we really do need to take out Iran. Trump got in trouble for keeping a document that was the invasion plan Milley and company tried to arm-twist into making into policy, and his biggest failing was that he seemingly didn't de-classify it. I'd love to see it, just to show evidence that there IS a pro-war deep state trying to dictate US policy.
"new emergency order recently issued by New York City Mayor Eric Adams, which "requires charter bus companies to provide 32 hours' advance notice of the arrival of migrants and restrict[s] the times of day when they can be dropped off"
I'm pretty sure this is unconstitutional! The so-called crisis is a direct result of the Federal government not doing its McJob and partisan culture wars pissing matches. The solution is so obvious that it quite embarrassing to me that our so-called leaders don't implement it as an emergency measure: Congress should immediately pass a law allowing anyone from anywhere to enter the United States after a simple criminal background check and allowing them to proceed to their chosen destinations at their own expense and remain in the United States as long as they continue to support themselves. All laws regulating employment in the United States should be immediately suspended as an emergency measure and all welfare payments to immigrants (except emergency medical care) banned permanently.
Unconsti-what?
And before we open borders (any more) how about eliminating all of the welfare state?
Well, just in case you missed it, our borders are already open and there are already about thirty million "illegal" immigrants living and working here. Any attempt you might have made to stanch the flow has failed miserably and caused more trouble than it solved. Any attempt you might try to make in the future will fail just as miserably. But by all means continue to fail miserably if you want to. I don't have a dog in this fight.
The problem is so bad we all have to accept the costs and move on? Crime is bad too, we should just give up and dismantle the police and not track down criminals.
all welfare payments
to immigrants(except emergency medical care) banned permanently.FTFY.
Of course, but one insoluble issue at a time, please.

More than 350 migrants flown from Texas to Rockford before being escorted to Chicago
https://www.cnn.com/2023/12/31/us/migrants-arriving-chicago-texas-sending/index.html
Rockford is the big town a few miles from my house. The Chicago collar counties are posting signs on the interstate warning migrant buses not to exit. It was inevitable that they would end up here. The headline says they were bussed to Chicago but the story says they were dropped of in McHenry county which is a mostly rural county east of here. All of the counties and towns around here are scrambling to figure out how to avoid being overrun. It's a complete shitshow.
Most of these are being dropped off at Metra stations in various suburbs from Wheeling to Lockport (and everywhere in between) to finish their journeys into Chicago from there. The first Metra stations for this group would be up in Pingree Grove and Elgin. I'll bet they were taken there first, then on the train to Chicago.
You've got to admit, there is a bit of delicious irony to the banning of buses and them just jumping on the Metra.
Imagine that... a rounding error's worth of Migrants show up to sanctuary social constructs and everyone loses their shit.
I don't think Rockford is a sanctuary city or any of the other towns around, maybe Madison WI (?). They'll all end up in the Windy City. About 25 degrees out right now. Dunno what Brandon is going to do with them.
The war in Gaza would end if the Palestinians turned against Hamas. Unfortunately, much like Germans and the Nazis, the Palestinians will have to go through de-Hamasification for peace to last.
"The war in Gaza would end if the Palestinians turned against Hamas."
I don't think that's likely to happen. On the contrary, Hamas is likely to emerge from the conflict with unprecedented prestige and authority. And not only with the Palestinians but with regional Arabs in general. That's why corrupt and despotic regimes like the one in Egypt fear them so much, arguably even more than the corrupt regime of Netanyahu, who was until recently sending regular suitcases of cash to Hamas in an effort to strengthen them and undermine Palestinian support for a two state solution.
On the contrary, Hamas is likely to emerge from the conflict with unprecedented prestige and authority.
If that's true, it shows just how brainwashed Palestinians are that they would applaud raping old women and beheading babies, much like Germans tolerated and even supported the Nazis gassing and starving Jews in concentration camps.
Again, they can end the conflict and secure lasting peace and prosperity if they renounce Islamist ideology. De-Hamasification is the only way forward.
Israel kept Hamas around (with subsidies) for the last two decades precisely to eliminate the possibility of ending a conflict or securing 'peace and prosperity' with the Palestinians. That was the explicit goal expressed by Netanyahu.
And the point re Gaza is true. There are now 2 million Gazans who will find every reason in the world to take revenge - on Israelis (and Americans since we are complicit) - using all the terrorist tactics that are now apparently approved. And if Netanyahu is defining the statute of limitations re his genocidal statements, that vengeance is approved for at least 3000 years.
"Israel kept Hamas around (with subsidies) for the last two decades precisely to eliminate the possibility of ending a conflict or securing ‘peace and prosperity’ with the Palestinians. That was the explicit goal expressed by Netanyahu."
You.
Are.
Full.
Of.
Shit.
Israel kept Hamas around (with subsidies) for the last two decades because the US government forced them to.
"Again, they can end the conflict and secure lasting peace and prosperity if they renounce Islamist ideology. "
You need a plan B. This 'only way forward' malarkey is not doing Palestinians any good. It's not doing the Israelis any good, it's not doing America's corrupt Arab partners any good, or Jews worldwide, who've seen antisemitic incidents rise dramatically.
Look, I understand you're a patriotic American, anxious to wash his hands of middle eastern entanglements, and get on with the pivot to China and business of war mongering in the far east. We'll never get any of that done if we're going to hang around waiting for the Palestinians to renounce their faith, accept their second class status, or convert to Judaism.
You need to fuck off and die in a fire, asshole.
Jews do not proselytize their religion to Gentiles, much less force Gentiles to convert to Judaism. Which puts them a peg up over Islam or Christianity in the book of this here Howling Atheist.
Dummy!
"Jews do not proselytize their religion to Gentiles"
From what I understand, Jews go to great lengths to make the conversion as difficult as they can get away with. No, "I accept Lord Jesus into my heart" and have done with it, for the chosen ones. And if you're an atheist, and wish to become a secular Jew along the lines of Woody Allen, forget about it. To convert, you have to profess to a belief in God, Moses, and the whole Megillah.
There's a difference between Nazis and Hamas. The Nazis tried to keep their extermination programs secret, or at least concealed enough that the "good Germans" could avoid seeing any irrefutable proof. Hamas brags about its war crimes on-line. Hitler was worried that he'd lose the support of the German populace if they fully knew what he was doing. Hamas gains support from its populace by advertising what they do. So don't come crying to me about "innocent civilians" - anyone in Gaza that still had a conscience past 10 years old has been murdered by his neighbors.
Hamas is a government, that was elected once. It sent armed men to invade Israel - out of uniform, but armed and organized as an army, so they were illegal combatants as well as Hamas's army. That invasion is war. The men committed massive murder, torture, and rape of civilians, obviously following a plan. That is, Hamas sent troops to commit war crimes. They are war criminals, and should be tried and executed, ASAP. Gaza civilians that get in the way aren't innocent, but they'll suffer the same fate as the possibly innocent Germans that got in the way of Allied bombing raids and ground offensives.
As for the Houthi, among other things they are pirates. Pirates can and should be executed by any nation that captures them. Those who keep up their support bases are as guilty as the pirates firing missiles at shipping or going forth in attack boats.
That’s why corrupt and despotic regimes like the one in Egypt fear them so much, arguably even more than the corrupt regime of Netanyahu
Egyptians and the other Arab nations don't want Palestinians based on an actual history of violent upheaval and subversion, not because of whatever Hamas's reputation with the "Arab Street" might be.
I don't think you've understood my point. Whatever prestige Hamas had before Al Aqsa Flood, it's miles ahead of that post Oct. 7. Whatever fear of Hamas corrupt Arab regimes had before, it was a fraction of what it is now.
It's much the same with the Israeli government. Previously, they would engage in what they called 'mowing the lawn,' bombing operations that would last month or so, destroying some infrastructure and kill a few hundred Palestinians. Now, they're not mowing the lawn, but engaged in all out war with ground troops and US aircraft carriers.
"I don’t think you’ve understood my point."
Stop pretending that you're here to do anything other than sling bullshit.
See you double wrote:
"The war in Gaza would end if the Palestinians turned against Hamas. "
I think he's got his head in the clouds. Hamas will likely emerge from the conflict with increased authority and prestige. If you think the Palestinians or anyone else is on the verge of rejecting Hamas, or that will bring peace, make your case. It would be more than See you double has done. And, put on your big boy pants because making your case requires more than posting a sentence of school yard taunts.
Stop pretending that you’re here to do anything other than sling bullshit.
I don’t think you’ve understood my point.
I don't give a shit about your point. There's very clear and multiple historical precedents for why Arab nations don't want Palestinians living in their country, and it has absolutely nothing to do with their respective corruption or despotism.
The contention that these governments are more terrified of Hamas than before is sheer question-begging. They've already seen the lengths to which Palestinians will chimp out for decades now, and they've already made it clear even before 10/7 that they don't want that shit in their backyard.
The "Arab Street" is a western media concoction that doesn't mean shit in the actual policies of these nations. The only time that was ever a threat to them was in 2011, and that required Obama's CIA playing reindeer games in the form of fomenting the "Arab Spring" color revolutions.
" They’ve already seen the lengths to which Palestinians will chimp out for decades now, and they’ve already made it clear even before 10/7 that they don’t want that shit in their backyard."
This is similar to what the Nazis faced in the 1930s. They tried very hard to rid themselves of what they saw as an alien and unwelcome presence. They readily gave visas and even money to Jews who'd emigrate. Problem was the rest of the world didn't want that shit in their backyard.
We see the same apologetic for genocide today from many today vis a vis the Palestinians. Whether you know it or not, you're mouthing words from a script written long ago by wicked men.
"The “Arab Street” is a western media concoction"
Then why bring it into the conversation? I never mentioned it. It's not the Arab Street the Egyptian government are worried about. Rather, it's the Muslim Brotherhood, of which, incidentally, Hamas is the Palestinian off shoot. They feared this group ten years ago when they killed over 1000 unarmed while dispersing protests.
"The only time that was ever a threat to them"
Aren't you forgetting the assassination of Nobel Laureate Anwar Sadat, who signed the agreement with Israel under the eye of the US president Carter? He was shot not by a member of Muslim Brotherhood, but an even more radical Islamist outfit, more akin to al Qaeda. The regime lived on in the form of VP Hosni Mubarrek, himself decades later booted from office due to Islamist inspired and organized insurrection.
mtrueman continues to make his favorite nazi proud.
Nothing of substance. Childish taunts only. You're in good company here.
We see the same apologetic for genocide today from many today vis a vis the Palestinians. Whether you know it or not, you’re mouthing words from a script written long ago by wicked men.
Actual historical events are not a script, shitlib, no matter what your dumb belief in historic determinism tells you.
Then why bring it into the conversation? I never mentioned it.
You alluded to it with your contention that all these governments are going to be terrified of Hamas now.
The regime lived on in the form of VP Hosni Mubarrek, himself decades later booted from office due to Islamist inspired and organized insurrection.
Aren’t you forgetting the assassination of Nobel Laureate Anwar Sadat, who signed the agreement with Israel under the eye of the US president Carter? He was shot not by a member of Muslim Brotherhood, but an even more radical Islamist outfit, more akin to al Qaeda.
That wasn't some rando, it was a Egyptian military officer.
No, he was booted from office due to CIA-inspired color revolutions, not Islamist insurrection.
"Actual historical events are not a script,"
You missed the point. Propaganda is read from a script.
"You alluded to it with your contention that all these governments are going to be terrified of Hamas now."
They were always afraid of Hamas, if only because of the connection with MB. It's got nothing to do with Arab Street which is why only you, in your profound, if occasionally amusing ignorance, brought up.
" it was a Egyptian military officer."
Who was sympathetic to the Islamist cause and a member of a radical Islamist group,
"CIA-inspired color revolutions,"
Islamists living decades under a vicious secular dictatorship would never dream of opposing the regime, let alone lifting a finger to overthrow it. They need the CIA for that. You guys always make the same mistake underestimating the Arabs. Did you read about Israeli intelligence warning the government that something was cooking in Gaza. The government ignored the warnings, presumably because they knew Hamas was little more than a collection of gibbering human animals who, worse come to worse, might inflict a pin prick which would provide the government with a convenient pretext to launch their final solution, while stooges like you cheer them on. The only thing that proved correct were the stooges like you clapping themselves silly as the genocide unfolds.
You missed the point. Propaganda is read from a script.
Your point is meaningless when compared to actual historical events.
They were always afraid of Hamas, if only because of the connection with MB. It’s got nothing to do with Arab Street which is why only you, in your profound, if occasionally amusing ignorance, brought up.
Egyptians have been keeping Palestinians out of Egypt long before Hamas was even a thing.
Who was sympathetic to the Islamist cause and a member of a radical Islamist group,
Lots of officers were. You bringing up Sadat is simply misdirection, since the officer wasn't a member of Hamas or the MB.
Islamists living decades under a vicious secular dictatorship would never dream of opposing the regime, let alone lifting a finger to overthrow it. They need the CIA for that. You guys always make the same mistake underestimating the Arabs.
Thanks for confirming my point.
"Your point is meaningless when compared to actual historical events."
I'll spell it out for you. Your propaganda is the same as Nazi propaganda. We're talking about propaganda and actual historical events are secondary. You believe that Palestinians are subhuman vermin, and your proof is that neighboring countries are reluctant to give them refuge. This warrants their extermination. This is the justification for the holocaust perpetrated by Nazis against the Jews in the 1940s.
"Egyptians have been keeping Palestinians out of Egypt"
They are Palestinians, not Egyptians.
"You bringing up Sadat is simply misdirection, since the officer wasn’t a member of Hamas or the MB."
Sadat was a victim of Islamist extremism, wouldn't you agree? You claimed that the events of 2011 were the only time muslim extremism was a threat to the secular US friendly dictators. I remind you one such dictator was assassinated by muslim extremists years previously.
"Thanks for confirming my point."
I'm uncertain what point you think I'm confirming. I believe, contrary to what you seem to be saying, that Arabs have agency and can act without the CIA pulling their strings. The Oct. 7 attacks prove that, don't they? Or perhaps you think US intelligence was behind them.
I agree with mtrueman. Carpet bombing the Gaza Strip until all the rubble bounces is the only sure path.
Sure path to having the Chinese come in and build it back to where it was before. That's not what Obama meant by the pivot to China.
I was wondering when Reason was going to cover the fact that Sanctuary City New York had blocked legal immigrants from arriving in NY.

By far, Masnick's biggest postitive contribution to tech is that his blog has "tech" in the name. Many of modern womens' freedoms are underwritten by technology.
I've read a compelling arguement that the vast majority of the wealth created over the last couple centuries has actually gone to women.
1. You want to be a homemaker? Washing machine, stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, mop wringers, etc - tons of labor saving devices where you might spend only a couple hours a day working and a lot of your work is being done by machines simultaneously.
2. This frees you up for a second career outside the home.
What do men get? A lawnmower and a 60+ hour work week;)
Long listen, Chris Williamson podcast with Mary Harrington, an alarmingly sharp and bright feminist, arguing that modern feminism is no longer helping women, and in fact is hurting them. She was the one who pointed out how many of the liberations that women enjoyed were not legislated, but underwritten by technology.
Feminism Is No Longer Helping Women - Mary Harrington | Modern Wisdom Podcast 596
Harrington is one of those intimidatingly sharp and incisive people that are increasingly rare these days.
Trigger warning: One of the reasons I really like her is because she noticed the same thing I've been seeing: The weird dichotomy with the younger generation where sex is so dangerous that seeing stage dancers at a video game conference is exploitation or being asked for coffee on an elevator is practically rape and... Agreed, but one of these things is not like the others: Washing machine, stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, mop wringers.
Basically, women's lib has always been a luxury item, much of it only makes sense to a society that can afford it.
I'm not sure I'd put it that way, because that seems overly antagonistic. But there are the realities of women's liberation which cannot be ignored. Things like birth control are major factors in the equation and absent that technology, life would be very different.
Seriously listen to the podcast I linked above. She wrote a book about feminism post industrial revolution. She makes some incredibly insightful arguments about who we traditionally see women, women's roles, critiques of "Jezebel/Magazine feminism" and how she perceives the case that women were essentially "chattel slavery" is an incorrect reading of the past. She makes arguments that women were wielding significant power in subtle ways and contributed mightily to the economies and that just because their names weren't on the title deeds didn't make them mere "chattel slavery".
One of the things that brought about her transformation from woke feminist is she had children and was pushing around a stroller with a child in it, and realized that her brain hadn't turned off-- whereas "Jezebel/magazine feminism" seems to indicate that women's life is over once children come along.
childless women telling women life is over after children never made sense.
Yeah, people act like protecting women's chastity and stuff like that was just done for no reason to be horrible.
The intention was more unpleasant reality than antagonistic. I tend to agree thar seeing women's status in society as being exclusively terrible in the past is a very crabbed view of history which is much more nuanced if you take a closer look at it. I expect she has come ti much the se type of conclusions.
I have to wonder how its legal for a municipality to put up rules how people may or may not freely travel to that city.
I also have to wonder how they have the chutzpah to do it while claiming no such restrictions shoul apply anywhere else.

German lawmakers want to send Ukrainian refugees to trenches as NATO proxy war falters
German opposition lawmakers and media are demanding that Berlin reverse course on its policy of not forcing Ukrainian men taking refuge in the country to return home to fight Russia.
“Germany pays significantly more for the living expenses of Ukrainian conscientious objectors than it does investing in the training and equipping of Ukrainian defenders against Russian 'aggression',” FAZ correspondent Peter Carstens wrote, pointing to a campaign by the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU) to send Ukrainian men home to be drafted.
German Justice Minister Marco Buschmann announced late last month that Berlin will not force Ukrainians to go home to fight against their will, while CDU lawmaker Roderich Kiesewetter has called on the Olaf Scholz government to reconsider its position.
