Brickbat: The Right Criteria

The University of Victoria, a public university in British Columbia, is looking for an assistant professor of music composition and music technology and theory. The position is full time and tenure track. According to a job listing, the school is looking for someone who will "develop an active research and/or creative profile" and "contribute to undergraduate and graduate programs in composition and music technology." And according to the job listing, the job search will be limited only to candidates who are black.

Yes, it tells emigrants from the US to Canada that they're not escaping the racist wokism in the US, unlike the draft dogers who fled there to avoid the Vietnam war - when moving to Canada increased your freedom. No more. Racial discrimination is legal in Canada now, but only white people will be the target or racism.

At least we know the affirmative action in Canada, means the worst doctors and lawyers are blacks, so choose accordingly. After all, discrimination for poor reasons (unlike reasons of merit, capabilities, abilities, character, etc.) works against bigots and people who are advanced for racial equity.

Were I younger I would be depressed and greatly concerned over the DIE machinations in the country, as well as the general political drift including the slowly (mostly) metastasizing socialism, and the drift toward government action rather than individual responsibility. One can trace the origin of this drift back to the last half of the 19th Century, but the rate of the drift has increased in a logarithmic progression.

I said in the above paragraph "would be" - the clear implication is that I am not, or not much, concerned about it, and to infer such would be accurate. Why? WHY would someone who is a constitutional conservative with a narrow streak of libertarianism ever think, much less utter such thoughts?

I would suggest that having Big Sister know all our thoughts, overlook and judge all our actions, take care of all our needs that she deems appropriate to have met, and help us get our minds right by dispensing justice (punishment) to those who are suspected of having wrong thoughts and wrong allegiances is what the country (not individuals, mind you) collectively deserves. Why would one say that the country collectively deserves such a fate?

Take a look around you. See who has been elected to positions of authority. See who has remained in those positions of authority. Here the cries or "more, we want more", which are never answered with the response "then go and earn it". It may be "for the children", but I have my resources extracted by threat of force to raise those that are not my progeny. See rioters, carjackers, smash-and-grab robbers, arsonists - see those who threaten violence, and those who commit it - when captured, set free to prey upon citizens again. Watch as citizens who use force to defend against or repel the malefactors sued, charged, and often imprisoned. Watch our feminized society cry for more of the same, and to satisfy the cry the government continues to manufacture ever larger tranches of paper money to pay for the "more", rendering each unit of that money worth less.

To use a worn analogy, aircraft carriers do not turn on a dime. It will take several more years for this country to be fully transmogrified into a socialist/communist utopia, and there are yet many eggs that will need breaking for this omelet to be made. At my age, I will get to observe at least part of the transition, but because of my age I will be little affected by it. Those who have embraced the coming transformation, and those who chose to remain silent or were cowed into remaining silent, will get, and will fully deserve the society that is coming to them.

But people who would move from the U.S. to Canada would likely be the sort who support affirmative action, reparations, DEI, etc. if their word is good, there will be a bunch headed North if Trump wins in 2024. Of course, those who promised to flee to Canada in 2026 if Trump won mostly didn’t.

The stated intent of moving out of the US if Trump wins/won an election is usually just hyperbole. If they really meant it, they would leave and then renounce their US citizenship. Other wise, such statements are at the same level as some clown running off his mouth down at the end of the bar.
