Brickbat: Born Behind Bars

An inmate in the Montgomery County, Tennessee, jail gave birth alone in her cell despite having called for help. The woman, who wasn't named by the media, called for help at 11:31 a.m., and a deputy notified medical staff. A licensed practical nurse examined her and left to consult with other medical staff. A registered nurse then came to examine her, but she left to order more tests. At 12:41 p.m., a deputy came back to check on the woman and found she'd given birth. The mother and her child were then taken to a hospital.

There's never a taxi driver around when you need one.
I'm making $90 an hour working from home. I never imagined that it was honest to goodness yet my closest companion is earning 16,000 US dollars a month by working on the connection, that was truly astounding for me, she prescribed for me to attempt it simply. Everybody must try this job now by just using this website... http://www.Payathome7.com
The baby will of course have to be charged with breaking into a prison facility.
The
babyguilty clump of cells will of course have to be charged with breaking into a prison facility.FIFY.
Give it up already. No-one pretends a born baby is a clump of cells. You're just trying to deflect the silliness of calling a pre-viable pregnancy a baby.
Whether satirical or not; LOL @ "Who cares if it's a baby or a clump of cells as long as we agree that it's guilty up front."
Show me the clump of cells and I'll tell you the crime.
The punishment: post third trimester abortion.
It was already aborted from the womb.
Can baby sue for detainment without due process?
lol... There-in lies the real conundrum of the Pro-Life mob.
We've recently seen evidence that the Texas fetus huggers don't think it's such a big deal if an agent of the state is the one responsible for harm to a "pre-born baby".
I'm sorry, I don't see some sort of gross injustice here.
She was in jail. She called for help and then was seen by two different nurses and downloaded in just over an hour?
Short of having an obstetrician standing by, it seems like reasonable efforts were made to help her. Maybe there's a question of why the nurse(s) didn't stay with her?
This seems to be an event of a completely different sort than some of the reporting recently.

Oh I disagree. This is a hilarious testament to Reason's retardation on the issue. The only two timestamps being unkowably before the baby was delivered and unknowably after the baby was delivered, with the implied "How could this happen?!" narrative, this sounds *exactly* like the status quo reporting on these issues from Reason. There isn't even the implication that there was any sort of harm to mother or baby. They're pretty much just straight up regurgitating the "12:41 Baby definitively arrived, nothing else happened." police report as though it were news.
It really is astounding coming from the "If a woman wants to abort her baby in the bathroom of her local Starbucks at any point in her pregnancy, that's her prerogative." magazine.
What trash this magazine has become.
"What trash this magazine has become."
So then you 'fess to being a trashy person, since we can see that you're still here?
They DO say that confession is good for the soul! So go right ahead and 'fess to being an authoritarian and a totalitarian!
(We, the astute readers, already know that anyway.)
It really is astounding coming from the “If a woman wants to abort her baby in the bathroom of her local Starbucks at any point in her pregnancy, that’s her prerogative.” magazine.
I thought their position was "abortion must remain legal all the way up until the
babyclump of cells head crowns if not immediately after so thatwomenbirthing people don't abort theirbabyclump of cells in their local Starbucks."I'm pro thirtieth-trimester abortion for Democrat pregnant people. They shouldn't breed anyway.
Considering the frequency with which the words "back alley" and "coat hanger" get explicitly thrown around, I think we're both being generous.
Dobbs had absolutely NOTHING to do with the subject you speak of.
The next person I hear defending that position will be the first. But at this point it's impossible not to realize the anti-abortion extremists as the mendacious twatwaffles they are.
And now you're bitching about their complaints on behalf of a baby that was born? I would tell you to make up your mind but that would be assuming facts not in evidence. (That you have a mind, specifically.)
This is a good example of zero effort story writing.
This is a good example of zero effort commenting. It could be improved by actually putting some thought and effort into it, and TRYING to justify the stated opinion!
(My opinion is that I am THE smartest asshole around, and EVERYONE else sucks, but... The REASONS WHY I think that? THOSE are TOP SECRET!)
Sounds like cruel and unusual punishment to me, forcing that innocent little baby to being born in Tennessee.
has nobody sued Tennessee for implementation of County Jail Maternity Wards?
Aren't women about to give birth held in a different facility?
What was she in for? Seeds? Twigs? Conspiracy to violate the Comstock Laws?
This happens over and over, and can be much worse. For example, this death might have been preventable: https://www.texasobserver.org/pregnant-inmates-treated-texas-county-jail/
I've found my local lawmakers ready to listen about making improvements.
There have been babies that died while a jailed mother suffered through hours or even days of unattended labor, but this isn't any such case. It was less than 70 minutes from when she recognized she was in labor to delivery. In that short time, two nurses looked at her. I don't know why neither one could stay, or why a jail with a pregnant inmate did not have an obstetrician on call who could get there sooner, but it doesn't sound like baby or mother suffered any injury.
A woman who is free and delivers the baby that fast will quite often deliver it in a car, without being seen by medical personnel at all. Most women are barely getting started 70 minutes after the first labor pains and won't really need a doctor for hours more.
