Brickbat: Taking a Bite Out of Crime

A jury has found former Transylvania County, North Carolina, sheriff's deputy Joshua Kory Jones guilty of assault with a deadly weapon after a police canine attacked a suspect who was under control and being handcuffed by other officers. The incident happened after the conclusion of a high-speed chase through three counties. Dominique Lamar Fore, who was wanted for assault, was a passenger in the car being pursued. Fore was on the ground with multiple officers on top of him when Jones approached with the dog, which bit Fore on the neck and shoulder. Jones was given a 30-day suspended sentence and 12 months probation.

That'll teach him.
I feel confident that I too would receive a 30-day suspended sentence and 12 months probation if I approached someone who was lying on the ground and committed assault with a deadly weapon against them. That seems extremely likely.
That’s like a 7 mos. suspended sentence and 7 yrs. probation to the one who actually perpetrated the attack.
I'm making $90 an hour working from home. I never imagined that it was honest to goodness yet my closest companion is earning sixteen thousand US dollars a month by working on the connection, that was truly astounding for me, she prescribed for me to attempt it simply. Everybody must try this job now by just using this website... http://www.Payathome7.com
Law enforcement can barely govern their own actions. Add to the mix an animal that has been conditioned that it is rewarding to attack humans.
Training an animal to attack humans should itself be a crime.
While I'm glad that cop was charged, convicted, and punished for this, his sentence is FAR too lenient.
I'm pretty sure a dog owner who set his dog on a cop, with the same resulting injuries, would NOT have gotten a Suspended Sentence (even before making it a scenario where the cop has been handcuffed and is lying on the ground when attacked).
Of course the article about police dog misconduct has to feature a dark brown/black (brindle) dog in the photo. Fucking racists.
You know that the real problem is white dogs.
....which bit Fore on the neck and shoulder
Dog was going for the throat. If you can't defend yourself by any way other than tucking your chin, that is indeed assault with a deadly weapon. Cop must have been related to the Biden's with that kind of slap on the wrist.
And the dog must have been related to Biden’s Secret Service biting pooch, although probably not acknowledged by Biden or his dog.
Since deputy Joshua Kory Jones added "Assault with a Deadly Weapon" to his resume as a police officer, the job offers have not stopped pouring in. It is unclear with which department he has chosen to complete his career.
So, since the cop was convicted of a felony can he own or buy a firearm?
He can just use the weapons the department provides.
Sorry Ride ‘Em. From the actual news article:
“After being in a deadlock for most of the day, the jury found Joshua Kory Jones, 31, guilty of assault with a deadly weapon, a Class A misdemeanor. Jones was originally on trial for a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, after the SBI investigated allegations of excessive force in 2021, agency spokesperson Angie Grube told the Citizen Times July 21.”
Thanks. I guess I just assumed it was a felony.
If I understand correctly, this misdemeanor counts as a "felony" for the federal law banning possession of a firearm by a felon. If 1 month suspended plus 12 months probation is possible for this crime, 13 months in prison is possible, and the feds consider any crime with a maximum sentence of 12 months or more to be a felony, even if no one has ever been sentenced to 12 months or more. So if this guy ever carries a gun, or even picks up a gun from a crime scene to turn in as evidence, he commits a federal crime with a 5 year or more sentence.
Unless they have carved out some sort of exception to this law for dirty cops, this guy's career as a cop in the USA is done. He could possibly be a prison guard since they don't go armed in the areas with prisoners, but I doubt a prison wants to hire a guard that can never hold a gun in a safe area to back up the guards going into the prisoner area.
