Julie Hudson spent a week in a Pennsylvania jail because a police officer in Texas thought she looked like a robbery suspect. Hudson, a doctoral student at Holy Family University, had been told she had an outstanding warrant when she was turned down for a job she'd applied for. When she went to police to find out why, she was arrested on a warrant from Texas, a state she has never been to. It took seven days for police in Webster, Texas, to determine she wasn't the woman they were looking for. Why did they think she was? They'd been told the woman they were looking for was named Julie Hudson. They found her photos on social media and decided she was the woman in the store surveillance video.

These things don't happen to white folk. Well sometimes to po'white. But for the most part the war on crime is a war on minorities. The anti-crime league types will say it's all because minorities commit more crimes. No excuse. You don't lock someone up because of their skin color.

This is NOT white privilege. This is a distinct anti-privilege of being a minority. And it's not white folk warring on black folk, black cops and jurisdictions do the same. It's the system that is broken.

I'm a bit confused. There's a robbery. A tip comes in with a name. A photo linked to that name appears to match the surveillance footage. Likely the reason the name was tipped in the first place.

What are the cops not supposed to do with this information? Did they show the surveillance footage?
