Brickbat: Do You Know Who I Am?

The Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission has found that two Detroit judges, Demetria Brue and Debra Nance, violated judicial ethics when they used their positions to try to get a discount on bicycle rentals during a conference on Mackinac Island, threatened to accuse the owner of assault when he refused, and lied about the incident to investigators. Video from the bike shop showed Brue grab the receipt out of the owner's hand and tear it up. Investigators said Brue then said to the owner: "You assaulted me. Did you just assault me? You took my receipt and tore it up. I want the police. … I am a judge. … I am an African-American female. That was racist, and it was disrespectful and it was violent." They will now face a judge who will be appointed to determine what discipline, if any, they will receive.

Did you come here directly from Stupidville, or did you have to change planes in Chicago?
From Stupidville to Chicago. Is there actually any travel involved in that?
She's a judge and too dumb to understand there are cameras everywhere.
I earn $100 per hour while taking risks and travelling to remote parts of the world. I worked remotely last week while in Rome, Monte Carlo, and eventually Paris. I’m back in the USA this week. I only perform simple activities from this one excellent website.
view it, copy it here....>>>> http://Www.Smartcash1.com
Demetria Brue and Debra Nance will be "disciplined" by a superior judge, by...
'A) Being forced to make sammiches for the superior judge, or...
'B) Being forced to make Deep and Meaningful speeches about racism, to the "advantaged community", ass a "pubic service"?
Place yer bets, ladies and germs!!!
She’s a judge and too dumb
I am an African-American female she said. It isn't being a judge that makes you dumb.
KAR might refer to her as an uppity dinger

And yet smart enough to realiE that she will go before another judge who will determine whether or not her behavior is in anyway worthy of discipline.
I will remind you of all those hilarious videos that people share of defendants in minor criminal cases rolling their eyes at bail demands or saying something with an attitude and getting 30 days for contempt.
These judges did something that is really criminal - as in threatening real harm in order to deprive someone else of their money or property.
Let's see if they get a consequence as severe as the trashy woman that popped up in my feed yesterday. She was on an arraignment via zoom and walked away from the camera before the judge wanted her to. He gave her 30 days for that. And then when she mouthed off about the unfairness, she got another 30 days.
So 60 days for backpack.
Let's see if threatening this guy like this is worse than talking back to a judge.
Somehow I doubt it.
Back talk.
Backtalk Google. For crying out loud, quit changing what I write after the fact.
30 days for you, Google autocorrect.
Submit to the narrative (as curated by our digital overlords).
We know that Her Honor is black, but can we confirm whether she comes from an impoverished background? That would explain her poor judgment.
Or that she's a woman. Was anyone there a biologist?
Lysenko?
Uh..... "That was racist" - has been a valid *entitlement* claim for the last decade. All started by the 64 Civil Rights Act. I was wondering how far it would go before anyone would catch onto what was really going on.
“All started by the 64 Civil Rights Act.”
I don’t agree. The Civil Rights Act was never going to end “racism.” It was simply going to make the enforcement of such things illegal (separate restrooms, etc) in facilities serving the general public (and yes, I know that is a “condensed" version).
What has happened is that some on the left are (and have been) parading “wrong-think” and, most especially, “wrong-speak” as something equivalent to segregation, and it isn’t.
If the 1964 et al Civil Rights acts had merely banned government-mandated segregation and racism, that would have been fine. But they mandated integration at the expense of freedom of association, beginning full-employment for busybody lawyers who scream "racism" at every chance.
“But they mandated integration at the expense of freedom of association…”
So, “white only” restrooms, restaurants, and grocery stores is okay, then?
You know, at my first good-paying job, my supervisor, who had served in the Army in the Korean war, and wasn’t exactly an “activist,” wasn’t all that happy when he returned to New Orleans and found that there were quite a few places he wasn’t permitted to enter.
So he was forced to choose between using a private restroom or public street like everyone else in New Orleans?
Sarcasm, I assume? If so, well done!
Did you know that the 1895 Plessy Supreme Court decision which allowed Louisiana to mandate segregated rail cars was not what the people and the railroad wanted? They were happy with integrated rail cars because running more cars and more trains to keep them segregated was too expensive and clogged the rail lines.
I’d much rather have the bigots face fiscal reality for their bigotry than have the government (try to) mandate non-bigotry. Society would have been a lot better off in 1964 if 1895 had left freedom of association alone and told the bigots to take their state mandates with them when they sulked in the corner. I do not think it is a coincidence that Woodrow Wilson desegregated the post office 20 years later and that the KKK had a huge resurgence in the early 1900s; they had the federal and state governments backing them with mandated racism.
When will you statists get it through your thick skulls that government oppression is evil, even when it is on “your” side momentarily?
So then, it's okay to have privately-owned, but, supposedly, open-to-the-public (meaning not a private club), "white only" restrooms, water fountains, seating in sports arenas and movie theaters, etc?
In the words of Thomas Jefferson, "It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg."
Yes! Freedom of association doesn't disappear because some government makes up some "public accommodation" law.
If you don't believe even bigots will follow incentives and accommodate the people they hate, then you have no faith in humanity.
If you don't believe that bigots who act out their bigotry are a minority who society will shun enough to make the fiscal and social cost apparent to the bigots, then you believe that a minority of bigot haters should overrule a majority of bigot lovers.
This is not a question of a majority ganging up to rob or beat up a minority. There is no aggression here. This is a question of whether the government can use guns to force bakers to bake cakes for people they don't like.
“If you don’t believe that bigots who act out their bigotry are a minority who society will shun enough to make the fiscal and social cost apparent to the bigots…”
Actually, I do believe this, in most circumstances, and given enough time.
“This is a question of whether the government can use guns to force bakers to bake cakes for people they don’t like.”
It’s not about “baking a cake.” It’s about “decorating a cake,” which is a creative, expressive act, and nobody should be forced to “decorate” a cake, or design a website, contrary to their personal belief.
Nice distinction. I agree that a baker can create cakes decorated with "Gay Marriage is Wrong" but has to sell them to everyone.
Now that's a marketing idea that, I have a feeling, might not "pan" out all that well. Sort of "half-baked?" Or is it just all "frosting?"
Your distinction without a difference was born from the need for statists to have an excuse to stomp those they dislike and favor those they like.
Freedom does not depend on such quibbling.
"Your distinction without a difference..."
No difference? Au contraire! (At least, seemingly, from the point of view of the baker!)
Nice diversion, again without a difference.
Freedom still does not depend on such quibbling.
If it were left to the choice of the business owners, the boycotts which would befall those businesses which chose to segregate would leave them unable to compete with integrated competition. The "Jim Crow" laws eliminated that factor by mandating all businesses to segregate, thereby not only eliminating the competition amongst proprietors with different ideologies, but making it impossible for boycotts of businesses providing needed goods/services to take hold.
If the Colorado activist community ever gets their wish and a law is implemented requiring the bakery they keep targeting to provide cakes for same-sex marriages, they'll announce a boycott of that business within minutes of its passage; in the meantime, they continue to walk in with demands for that particular service for no reason other than to create the pretext to call for more legal/regulatory action.
Is it okay that many colleges now have black-only dorms?
The University of California campuses in Los Angeles and Berkeley both offer segregated dorms to black students.
Study: 75 American Colleges Offer Black-Only Graduation Ceremonies. A study by the National Association of Scholars revealed that at least 75 American colleges have black-only graduation ceremonies and 43 percent of surveyed colleges offer segregated residential halls.
A survey of colleges discovered segregated orientation programs, finding 80 colleges that host them.
A growing number of campus are offering black-only "resource centers".
Depends on what you mean by okay. I don't much like the idea, but I don't think it should be illegal. If someone wants to open the Ku Klux Kafe and serve only straight, white Protestants, I don't think it's the state's place to tell them they can't. OTOH, I'd never spend a dime there, even though I'm terminally white and can easily pass as a straight Protestant.
I'm a big believer in freedom of association. This naturally includes the right not to associate, just as freedom of speech includes freedom from compelled speech. The problem with Jim Crow laws was they didn't merely allow segregation, they often compelled it. Otherwise, many businesses would have offered integrated services, not necessarily because they were run by racial progressives, but because providing "separate but equal" cost them money. (Even if the "colored" facilities were usually far short of equal, they still added costs.) A lot of businessmen cared a lot more about green than black vs white, and only maintained segregation because of social and legal pressure. In modern society, I suspect the number of businesses willing to turn down money because the person trying to spend it was the "wrong" color would be tiny.
The government should be barred from discrimination, since it claims to represent all citizens. (And it certainly claims authority over everyone.) Private citizens are a very different matter, and I utterly reject the notion that somehow changes just because someone is trying to make a buck.
I think you meant to say that Wilson re-segregated the Post Office. But the jist of what you're saying is correct.
The only thing worse than an attorney is one with state power.
There is no way around the need for judges. But you’d think the people of Michigan would pick better ones…
Who thinks these two will be reelected after all this? I’d say the odds are at least 50/50.
Maybe, but then we need overt and direct means to punish illegal judge behavior. Sure, we will invest extraordinary power in you, but see that guy with the executioner's axe?
Odds are they run unopposed and are elected again and again and again and...
They are considered officers of the court, so that is a redundancy.
And nothing else happened...
Wasn’t even aware that VP Harris had made a visit to Mackinac Island.
Of course. She’s the Border Czar and Mackinac Island is really close to the Canadian border. She realizes that it’s the Mexican border that has problems, but she gets north and south mixed up. So what? Cardinal directions are a white supremacist invention. Insisting that anyone needs to always distinguish between north, south, east and west is racist.
I wasn’t aware that there was cackling involved.
I am a judge. … I am an African-American female.
*fingers crossed this ends up in KBJ's lap*
They will now face a judge who will be appointed to determine what discipline, if any, they will receive.
Which they will no doubt blame on racism.
I'm sure you're right.
Some people go through life with a chip on their shoulder.
In all fairness, it was racist of him to be born white.
His parents were both white and they probably only exclusively slept with each other. I’ll bet, that being northern Michigan, they didn’t even interview any oppressed minorities for the position of egg-fertilizer or sperm donor. It’s racism all the way down.
The transphobia of the whole thing is intersectional misogyny at its racist peak.
It is racist to posit that a black could not identify and express itself as one or even both of this bike shop owner's parents as an act of self-loathing.
Clearly having at least one black parent who was in self-destructive denial left this poor clerk with PTSD in which his hatred of his most-vulnerable-parent-amongst-his-family was externalized against a mother-authority figure at the earliest opportunity.
I can only hope and pray that he can receive the race-affirming surgeries he needs so desperately.
I believe that is the core of the matter. The only option that beleaguered clerk had was to recognize his station in life and appropriately grovel before the offended parties.
Yes, it is Jim Crow in reverse.

Jim Snow, huh?
Also pretty white privilege-y of him to force her to declare her race and sex/gender in order to assert her legal dominance.
It’s a cultural thing.
Like knife fighting?
And people think Better Call Saul is unrealistic — that people who are already so well paid and powerful couldn't be that venal.
It will be great when the "Flag Comment" and "Mute User" functions are working again.
Manually hit the refresh button in your browser after each use. It's not wonderful, but it gets the job done.
Thanks; I was wondering about that.
That may work for mute but it does not work for flag.
Yeah but Reason doesn’t do Jack with flags anyway. I’m resigned to just muting and refreshing.
They used to condense flagged comments to a single line, less than muted commenters.
Oh yeah, that’s right. It was useful with…..a certain person who’s know for rather lengthy copy pasta.
Still, that was one you always had to refresh for a result. I hate losing my place in a 464 comment thread.
No, flagging reported it flagged right away.
As for losing your place, you can avoid that. Click on the time: that is the URL for the specific comment. Nothing happens except maybe scrolling that comment to top of screen. Then hit reload, and if that comment is not at top of screen, click anywhere in the URL and hit enter to reposition it.
May I offer you a most sincere thanks?
Sure, and I will be pleased, but also confused. Sincerity? These pages? That's sarcasmic's excuse.
🙂 🙂 🙂
I hate losing my place in a 464 comment thread
Thank gawd we don't see that anymore amirite?
You know who thought copypasta equalled truth?
Manually hit the refresh button in your browser after each use.
Thanks.
Words and ideas are dangerous.
Really? I had no idea. I’m truly speechless.
Words and ideas are literally violence, they say.
I think the story is misleading---the complaints have not been adjudicated.
Throw them off the bench. Or off the ferry, halfway between Mackinac Island and the mainland.
already enough race in this story w/o finding out who can swim and who cannot.
A black person was the aggressor and falsely claimed racism? NO WAY. That doesn't happen.
Hey, POCs and especially "black people" can't be racist. Kendi told us so.
It's almost like Jim Crow, only in reverse...we must be in the age of pay back.
I assume these strong black women also flew first class to their little bike holiday. Because reasons*.
*Racially fueled entitlements come to mind.
If they flew into Mackinac Island, it was in a small chartered plane, or else they probably drove to Mackinaw City and took the ferry. The airport is too small for commercial flights, and the nearest commercial airport is Pellston, 15 miles away. I suspect it would be faster to drive from Detroit than to go through TSA security, fly to Pellston, and rent a car - even if the frequent bad weather in Pellston doesn't cause your flight to be delayed or canceled.
FYI, they were trying to rent bicycles because motorized vehicles are banned on the island, except for the fire truck and ambulance.
Racist angry black women? I'm shocked! /s
Supplying links to leftists breaking the law or abusing their power is now treason.
Same logic behind social media companies, save one.
Yes, which doesn't say what they claim. Why are right-wingnut traitors so gullible?
Don’t the trolls ever tire of pedaling lies? An official spokesperson confirmed the story and I’m glad someone steered Reason’s attention to it. Sorry if you can’t handle the truth, but give me a brake!
"Don’t the trolls ever tire of pedaling lies?"
Rhetorical question. Just don't feed them because they are only interested in ginning up some outrage and their means are by no means constrained by things like evidence, facts, reason, or even staying on subject.
No, Treason.com never tires of it. The simple fact is that the story is not what they claim.
The worst crime is defying the Party.
Die.
Google pays an hourly wage of $100. My most recent online earnings for a 40-hour work week were $3500. According to my younger brother’s acquaintance, he works cs-02 roughly 30 hours each week and earns an average of $12,265. I’m in awe of how simple things once were.
