Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a bill expanding government control over the nation's news media. The law gives the National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting authority to regulate online and print media, including the power to temporarily block online media outlets without a court order. It also gives the agency the power to ask social media platforms and search engines to remove content that violates the law. The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine warned that the bill would erode important freedoms that "distinguish the social system of Ukraine from the regime of dictatorial Russia."

“Controversial Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson has launched a legal challenge against the College of Psychologists of Ontario after he said the governing body threatened to pull his practicing license if he doesn’t complete social media re-education for comments he made on Twitter and the Joe Rogan’s podcast.

Peterson also claimed in the National Post that he was targeted for supporting Canadian opposition leader Pierre Poilievre’s criticisms of the COVID-19 lockdowns, criticizing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Chief of Staff Gerald Butts, criticizing an Ottawa council member and making fun of New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

‘Every single accusation is not only independent of my clinical practice, but explicitly political — and not only that: unidirectionally explicitly political,’ Peterson, a free-speech advocate, wrote. ‘Every single thing I have been sentenced to correction for saying is insufficiently leftist, politically. I’m simply too classically liberal — or, even more unforgivably — conservative.'”

I saw that. And while Jordan’s words are perfectly accurate, his description really doesn’t capture the full picture of how truly, and no offense to him, inconsequential he is. He doesn’t hold public office, he’s not the duly appointed leader of some militant or even just reactionary political faction, he’s not and wasn’t even the dean where he taught, he’s not in charge of any union or trade organization… again, no offense to him, but in slightly different times and places, if you were going to effectively crack down on outspoken political dissidents, you would’ve already re-educated people like Dr. King and probably even Dr. Phil before you got to Jordan Peterson.

Peterson has influenced millions to be better in a way that rejects the leftist victimhood narratives but I assume you think until he’s a junior member of parliament (because everybody follows Canadian parliament) he cannot be influential?

I did not say he wasn’t influential. I indicated that he’s not any sort of overt, pointed, or dedicated political threat or specific social activist. Quite the opposite, and to my point about the dark night, he’s only a threat inasmuch as he is a martyr; only controversial inasmuch as people like Trudeau, Butts, and Ardern try to silence him. This is rather distinct from King, X, etc. who, even without political or military/martial position, were threats to longstanding social order. Peterson isn’t a threat because he’s marching, he’s a threat because he chooses to remain seated.

Almost certainly going too far in the opposite direction, Peterson isn’t a threat because he wants Rome to fall, he’s a threat because he’s willing to render unto Caesar what is Caesars, but no more than that. Dialing that back and circling back to my point: he doesn’t really otherwise seek to spread Christianity or free the slaves.

But he’s not that inconsequential… especially to the left. In fact, he occupies a considerable amount of real estate in their heads. Hell, they’re making Hollywood movies where mustache-twirling villains are entirely based upon him.
