Brickbat: Talk About Great Timing

New York's Climate Action Council has ruled that all homes built after 2025 must have energy-efficient electric heat pumps or other heating systems that do not use fossil fuels. After 2030, owners of existing homes with heating systems that burn natural gas, propane, or heating oil will no longer be able to have them repaired and must replace them if they break with units that don't use fossil fuels. The council was established under a 2019 law to determine how the state will meet its greenhouse gas emissions targets.

How far have they gotten in replacing all the existing meters with "smart" meters where they can remotely cut off your electricity if they don't approve of your comments on social media? And will it be one single agency or multiple agencies overseeing your banking, credit cards, automobile usage, shopping privileges, travel authority papers, ability to use phones and the internet, etc.?
Jerryskids just got docked some (who knows by HOW many) "social worthiness" points for posting this comment! NO soup (or fuel, electricity allotments, travel authorizations, soap rations, clothes, etc.) for YOU, sub-standard citizen, until your attitude improves significantly!
Fortunately, I don't exist as far as the government is concerned so they can't dock my social worthiness account.
Says sqrlsy approvingly.
I get paid over 190$ per hour working from home with 2 kids at home. I never thought I’d be able to do it but my best friend earns over 10k a month doing this and she convinced me to try. The potential with this is endless. Heres what I’ve been doing..

Just another reason to move out of NY.
I think in the coming decade the Trump wall might need to go around NY and CA too.
Won't matter shortly, Energy Dept will be mandating this nationwide soon enough. As of the Jan 1st 2023, they cut off sales of certain seer rated units in some parts of the country and revised how they rate them (seer ver 2.0 or something).
Just more proof that socialists and greenies don't understand either the true meaning of capital or the implications of the first law of thermodynamics. Requiring the replacement of an entire system because some small part has failed will cost more money (read: capital or energy or carbon) that will be saved in a long, long time by a switch to (ever more expensive and unavailable) electricity.
These people don't want to "save the planet", they want to control every aspect of our lives.
These people don’t want to “save the planet”, they want to control every aspect of our lives.
Those things aren't mutually exclusive.
My default position is that people have good intentions. In this case they're likely climate zealots who believe the only way to save the planet is to control every aspect of our lives. Hitler didn't wake up every morning thinking "What's the most evil thing I can do today?" No, he actually thought he was the good guy.
Nice move, defending hitler.
That's not to say there aren't people with bad intentions. I've got a lot of them on mute.
POST THE LIST!
THE END OF YEAR LIST!
A few years ago popular posters Chumby and Ken muted sarcasmic for trolling. When sarcasmic noticed they weren't responding to him and realized why, he was utterly devestated. Mainly because he's an attention whore and craves it good or bad. Being ignored was the worst thing that could happen to him.
So you might think it's a bit odd that he keeps bringing up his mute list and threatening to stick people on it, or boasting how many he's muted. But for sarcasmic that list means punishment and power.
He can't comprehend that most people don't give a fuck if he mutes them or not.
They may not be mutually exclusive, but it’s getting harder and harder to tell them apart. The fact that the same ones who need ultimate power to “save the planet” are also the ones who think they should be in charge of my health care, or determining the curriculum for grammar school education, supports the case for the second proposition.
And, even if the first proposition is the case, I would remind them of what my mother was always quick to mention to us as we grew up: “the road to hell is paved with good intentions”.
Because somehow they have the authority to do that.
If they can force grandma into a COVID germination center, they can turn off your natural gas.
The heat pump I just installed will work down to 5Degrees F. Even then, it has to do a defrost cycle at times in order to not become a solid chunk of ice. During defrost cycles and temps below 5degrees F, it requires an alternate heat source. I chose a gas unit. Until 2 weeks ago, I had not burned any gas in the house for heat. The electric heater option to totally replace local gas consumption was too expensive for me.
So, it's not going to work very well in northern New England, or the Rockies, or the upper Great Plains, or Alaska.
Sounds like it's not quite ready for universal use.
Like those regions matter, outside of a few posh ski resort towns.
Yeah, and aside from that, who cares about a few potato or wheat farmers, or sheep ranchers; they're used to being cold anyway.
Or even the northern half of the state. Do these idiots realize what the weather can be like in Buffalo? Oh right, lake effect snow is just added insulation to asshats in the legislature who only need to pull their cheeks down to keep their ears warm.
It's a good thing that, thanks to global warming, snowstorms which could cause power outages are a thing of the past. Otherwise, this policy could have disastrous consequences.
Yup, a lot of people are going to be (physically) hurt by this decision.
All good religions require suffering.
I live in the woods and we lose power several times a year, and usually for almost a week about once a year. If we had to switch from NG to electric heat I’d have to switch from my inverter generator to a whole house generator, which runs about 10 grand installed. And… runs off natural gas.
Luckily there’s no heavily wooded areas in northern New York.
So both of the people staying in NY will be competing to see who gets the wood from the abandoned houses?
Road Warrior V. The Battle for Queens.
After 2030, there will be a sudden underground flourishing of "shade tree mechanics" fixing your furnaces! Neither you nor they will be able to take any disputes over workmanship or unpaid bills to court, for fear of being fined and-or jailed... The Mafia and other gangs will take over this business! Shady men will stand on the street corners, offering you spare furnace parts from the inside pockets of their overcoats. Houses will burn down. Then there will be a "war on underground furnace repairs". People will say, "Geezum, WHY did NO ONE think of these kinds of things ahead of time?"

I put the comment in the wrong place...
PLEASE send Harry Tuttle right on over to my place!
(The ten tired turtles in the tuttle-tuttle tree can stay at home ass well ass I am concerned, though… Those freakin’ turtles are LAZY little varmits!)
Fifth Avenue can be saved from freezing by trapping your Central Park relations in squirrel cage generators
You're probably right. I can see a lot of under the table work being done to maintain older systems for a lot less money than a conversion to a heat pump or some other means. Just because the state makes it illegal doesn't mean it isn't going to get done.
Comment moved to correct spot, above...
I would think that this will create a lot of opportunities for companies like Legion Solar that produce supplemental solar energy without the need for utility approval. Although that could change as the systems become more popular. The systems are cheap and relatively easy to install.
Nowhere near enough power generation to heat a house. And nowhere near enough battery storage available.
A 13KW electric furnace running half on and half off over a day is 156KWH/day x 30 days in a month = 4,680KWH/month.
Now according to ACTUALLY seen solar output.
https://www.solarreviews.com/blog/what-is-the-power-output-of-a-solar-panel
You'd need about (100) 400W solar panels JUST FOR THE FURNACE. 400W panels are 5.5' x 3.25' = 18-sqft per panel. So it would need a roof 1,787 sq ft just to hold that many panels. Which would possibly cover a house just the right size for that much roof footage. i.e. It would require covering every inch of one's roof with solar panels JUST FOR THE FURNACE.
...Costing approx $80K / 360months in 30yrs = $222/month.
If not a single thing broke in 30-years and you live in Arizona you might break-even in 30-years with CA's super high commercial energy prices.
Kinda fun to see how NY leadership is steering towards a combination of 1984 and Escape from New York.
And how does New York State generate electricity?
Natural gas, mainly.
https://www.eia.gov/state/analysis.php?sid=NY
Is "generate" like legislate?
And using that same natural gas to heat your house directly is more efficient (and thus "greener") than generating electricity then using the electricity to heat the house.
It isn't even close.
Yet another great reason not to live in New York, California or any other social engineering state. What we still have to worry about is the Federalization of state-level social engineering. When there is no state left in America where one could vote with one's feet to escape some forms of government stupidity, I suspect it will finally hit the fan with extreme prejudice. Of course, there is no state left in the United States of America where there is not at least some level of governmental incompetence and (or) stupidity, but at least we have the opportunity to choose which kind of tyranny we prefer at this point.
No problem. All we have to do is increase electrical generation around five times, while limiting it to hydro, geothermal, wind, solar, and nuclear (and nuclear is evil and dangerous) in ten years. I’m buying lots of blankets.
You could try moving out of New York.
Buy a wood stove. F*ck 'em!
Google pay 200$ per hour my last pay check was $8500 working 1o hours a week online. My younger brother friend has been averaging 12000 for months now and he works about 22 hours a week. I cant believe how easy it was once I tried it outit..
