Brickbat: Old Acquaintances

Lovejoy, Georgia, Police Chief Michael Gaddis said he was disturbed by video of a traffic stop conducted by one of his officers, who wasn't named by media. The video shows the officer pounding on the window of the car and repeatedly shouting, "Driver's license now. Driver's license." The officer threatened to break the window unless the driver produced her license more quickly. The driver, who wasn't named by the media, said she had previously filed a complaint against the officer and believes that is why he was so aggressive. Gaddis said the officer has been suspended while the incident is under investigation. The driver was charged with running a stop sign, obstruction of an officer, and failure to obey a person directing traffic.

The worst part about living in a police state is the hypocrisy.
If that's the worst part, your police state is not trying.
You can tell they're not even trying by the complete lack of suspension or other disciplinary action and corrective action investigation, right?
So, say you got a chief that's on your side and is willing to suspend the officer, investigate the incident and implement policy changes. What's the exact decibel level and degree of politeness required during a traffic stop, libertarian, personal or other? What's the penalty for officers violating the decibel level and/or politeness level requirements for a traffic stop, libertarian, personal, or other? Most critically, who are you going to get to enforce it? How?

Papiere, bitte
I don’t see the problem with yelling at a closed window during a traffic stop.
Motorists don’t have to roll it all the way down, but they do have to roll it down enough to hear lawful requests.
If the motorist had been white and the cop had walked up to her window and summarily shot her in the face Reason would be cheering his heroic actions that saved many lives. Because libertarians are subhuman Marxist trash.
acting under the impression the people running Reason are libertarians could lead one astray.
Tell me you do not know what either libertarian or Marxist means without saying it.

I have to act in a professional manner at my job. Most do. Why would you find it otherwise acceptable for law enforcement?
I have to act in a professional manner at my job.
What about on the drive to and from your job? It’s been a while, but people used to shout at the order box and through the drive through window without anyone getting suspended all the time. Later, you had to shout over the servers and through partitions at the data center. At any point anybody could decide you’re being too hostile and file a complaint. The behavior may’ve warranted a suspension but a suspension is what you got. This isn’t even an 11 o’clock “Fast food employee, customer, altercation captured on video” news non-story. Not even ‘dog bites man’.
Think about how terrible the DMV is. Imagine how much better it would be if the public and the branch manager started suspending every employee who shouted "Driver's license now. Driver's license." in an insulting or condescending tone.
The drive to and from your job is irrelevant. The officer was on the clock, not commuting to or from his shift.
Shouting over background noise is also irrelevant. That's not even close to what was described above.
The point your blithely ignoring is that this person who was rude and abusive also has unfettered authority to use lethal force. If a person can't be trusted to control their temper enough to not shout abusively, why should we trust that person to be an armed agent of the state?
The drive to and from your job is irrelevant. The officer was on the clock, not commuting to or from his shift.
No it's not. Just because the guy at the grocery store, autoparts store, fast food place, etc., etc., etc. is on the clock doesn't mean they can't get pissed off if you're dangerous or a dick.
Shouting over background noise is also irrelevant. That’s not even close to what was described above.
So, you don't actually know one way or the other but you've decided guilt. How... authoritarian of you.
The point your blithely ignoring is that this person who was rude and abusive also has unfettered authority to use lethal force.
"Unfettered" other than the reprimanding you mean? Or are you going for authoritarian *and* ignoring factual evidence as presented? And, everyone has unfettered authority to use lethal force, that's what the 2A's about. Not everyone is justified, thus, the dude was suspended for not using lethal force.
Think I'm being an officious dick? Whaddyagonna do? Yell at me?
How about you save it for when an officer shoots Philando Castile or chokes out Eric Garner?
In the video is looks like the window is open slightly, so he wasn't yelling to be heard.
Whether through pre-broadcast editing or at-the-scene circumstance, I don't see any actual pounding though either and none of it is clear how long she was stopped at the intersection before anything was initiated. She can be clearly heard repeatedly instructing him (shouting no less!), "Break the window, sir!"
Stupid games. Stupid prizes.
Kinda weak one this morning Charles. You're just phoning it in.
The driver was charged with running a stop sign, obstruction of an officer, and failure to obey a person directing traffic.
Unless there's video evidence, she didn't do it. It was a retaliatory stop.
Exactly my thoughts.
Vague, impossible to refute charges.
The squad car is sitting right there in the video. Not sure what the FOIA release is like in their little slice of nowhere, but the superior officer pulled no punches in suspending the guy and still charged her. I'm sure Reason or the local news media would never tell just one side of the story and just go with only the hot take presented on amateur video, too much integrity.
"Driver's license now. Driver's license."
Without exclamation points, I don't see a problem.

it was a damp and chilly afternoon, so I decided to put on MY SWEATSHIRT!
Failure to obey is punishable by death. She got off easy.
Skin colors or it didn't happen.
Team Red doesn't like the FBI, but it's the local law enforcement that is the real problem. Even in Team Red states like Georgia.
Cops need to be policing their own. Republicans need to stop promoting Thin Blue Line bullshit.
The one and only reason why Team Red doesn't like the FBI is Trump. Otherwise the GOP is more than happy to gag on LEO cock.
Why sarcasmic, what's with the sudden urge to be so passively non-partisan, why don't you just go ahead and say racist, fundamentalist, and right-wing, anti-government extremism is at an all-time high while you're at it?
Like nobody on the right can spell Lon Horiuchi's name without looking it up. Team Red hates LEO bureaucracies even more than the next guy, (public) unions even more, well before it was cool. What they don't hate is the guy they went to HS with, who attends the same Church on the weekend, and who just happens to wear a badge during the week.
Fuckin' retard.
Yeah, and Democrats need to stop pushing the Defund the Police / ACAB bullshit.
Most people want to have police that are present, reliable, trustworthy, and accountable. Even in minority-majority neighborhoods in St. Louis, crime was a big issue for people this last election. It was the #1 thing that came up when voters were asked about what they were concerned about - they want a police presence in their neighborhoods.
I would be happier if they were just a little bit more beholden to the citizens they serve than their unions.
That said - the FBI has been completely corrupted. We don't need a politicized law enforcement agency like that, going after the regime's political opponents with the full force of the federal government.
You can say it's just the leadership or the bureaucrats at the top or whatever, but I think it goes far deeper. Just look at the Safe Deposit case in LA, where field agents were caught just blatantly ignoring the terms of the warrant they were serving.
Time to clean house.
I would be happier if they were just a little bit more beholden to the citizens they serve than their unions.
That said – the FBI has been completely corrupted.
Again, the GOP has been more consistently and effectively, even if only minimally, anti-police bureaucracy, anti-public-sector union, and anti-FBI than any other political party since before I was born.
You know who else shouted too much?
Hebrews marching on Jericho?
Isley Brothers?
I'm sorry, what?
Lil' John?
