Brickbat: The Ugly American

A U.S. Secret Service agent was sent home early from Israel after being detained by police in Jerusalem after a woman claimed he assaulted her. The agent and a colleague were reportedly drinking at a bar and became loud and rowdy. The woman claimed she told them they were behaving inappropriately, and then he pushed or hit her. No charges were filed against the agent. The agent was part of a group accompanying President Joe Biden on a visit to the Middle East. He has been suspended pending investigation, the Secret Service said in a statement.

You don't tell U.S. federal agents what they're doing wrong. They tell you what you're doing wrong. Either way, violence.

Just so you know, in the book The Ugly American the title character was the good guy. It was slamming American "diplomacy" and "nation building" for arrogance, elitism, and ineptitude by comparing it to a humble engineer who actually lived with the natives, spoke their language, learned about their culture, got to know them and their needs, He was a deplorable, in other words. He didn't attend the right cocktail parties, didn't even own a tuxedo, therefore he was an ugly American.
IIRC he was called that because he was physically ugly.
I without a doubt have made $18k inside a calendar month thru operating clean jobs from a laptop. As I had misplaced my ultimate business, I changed into so disenchanted and thank God I searched this easy task (ky-17) accomplishing this I'm equipped to reap thousand of bucks simply from my home. To be fair, nobody was shot or run over by a car, no dogs were killed, no wrong doors knocked off of hinges, no false warrants were issued with knowingly false, nobody got raped, nobody got arrested for plotting to kidnap a Federal official, these guys really are the creme de la creme of Law Enforcement.
creme de la creme of Law Enforcement
To be fair, these guys are from the Bodyguard division. The Law Enforcement division(s) of Treasury and SS have their own share of overreach.
Agents are rotated in and out of each division periodically.
They figured Israeli police would pick up the slack.
Why is he being called the Ugly American? He was not charged for anything he allegedly did to the Ugly Israeli?
Because he got drunk and pushed a woman down who complained he was being rowdy. That's not "pretty" American behavior, champ.
The agents were probably practicing for the next time they had to fight off the President, who was trying to take control of their SUV from the back seat.
Guy had dripping ketchup PTSD. PDKSD
The woman claimed she told them they were behaving inappropriately, and then he pushed or hit her.
Sounds about right. Nobody tells a fed what to do without receiving some violence. Nobody.
"No charges were filed against the agent."
Duh. Why even write an article?
No charges were filed against the agent.
There's no US Circuit Court in the middle east.
The woman claimed she told them they were behaving inappropriately
He said "check out these matzo balls" and she responded "looks more like couscous".
Not even those Israeli couscous, either, the other kind.
two G-Men walk into a Jerusalem bar ...
And they say to the bartender - "Get us a couple of He-Brews!"
Yada yada, one gets sent home on a plane. [uproarious laughter].
I'd expect that bodyguard details for heads of state routinely get diplomatic passports to travel abroad with the people they are protecting. That means that unless the US State Department waived diplomatic immunity, the Israelis could not arrest or file charges against these agents. All they could do was put them on a plane home. Once they are in the USA, they could and should be fired, but I doubt any US criminal court would have jurisdiction to try them for assault in Israel.
OTOH, this sounds like a great case for waiving diplomatic immunity.
hmm.
