Brickbat: This Burns

The Los Angeles City Council has banned natural gas appliances in most new buildings. Council members say the move will help fight global warming. But some restaurant owners say electric stoves can't replace the effects of gas ovens in some cooking techniques and styles of cooking. The impact would be felt especially by Asian restaurants, which use natural gas stoves to crank up the heat immediately, searing in flavors in certain dishes. Owner Leo Lee said he won't open a second location of his Cantonese-style barbecue restaurant if the ban is upheld.

Progressive policies implemented; Asians hardest hit, as it's always been.
Laycists!
"Laycists!" --Very good
Not Craw, C£aw!
I’ve made so far this year working online and I’m a full time student. I’m using an online business opportunity I heard about and I’ve made such great money. (res-35) It’s really user friendly and I’m just so happy that I found out about it. Here’s what I do.

You have our gwatitude!
The impact would be felt especially by Asian restaurants...
If you didn't want to be treated like second class citizens by LA you shouldn't be white.
Council members say the move will help fight global warming.
If they were sincere they would perform seppuku. The Japanese in their locale would likely be animated to show them. This is assuming they all have not moved out of CA to flee Black hatred towards Asians.
….. banned natural gas appliances in most new buildings.
Guess who’s buildings won’t be affected
"Let them eat cake batter."
We MUST initiate a Nazi-Regime!!!! ..... BECAUSE; the weather changes.... /s
At what point are people slapped with the stupid stick of their idiocy.. Apparently it isn't from the multiple times climate alarmists have been proven FALSE by the test of time and reality.
...But tomorrows weather with burn us all dead and cause a dust bowl... Pandora's box of 'faith' without a speckle of reasoning to establish any.
Electric stoves are an abomination to mankind.
aye
Also agree
My very progressive neighbor was trying to suggest the other day that apparently, cooking with gas now causes cancer.
There's a new study out about it any everything. Not promoted by activists who have been trying to ban natural gas for years or anything, I'm sure.
Good to know. Let me add this to the list of things that cause cancer:
1 everything
2 cooking with gas
Lol.
If you live in California there's a Prop 65 warning on everything.
EVERY THING.
So many things people just ignore them. Which is great because you could be buying baby asbestos dolls or a stainless steel spoon, you're going to ignore he warning either way.
I left the tag on my golf bag. Because a golf bag by prop 65 could cause cancer. I certainly need to know that at the driving range.
Yeah, we even see those prop 65 stickers here on the East coast. I got some on some wooden dowels from Home Depot.
No joke, glad I got out when I did shortly after the Prop 65 coffee kerfuffle. When I was there my neighbor actually had a warning sticker on the driver's window of her car. Don't know if it was the window or the car but but we both found it quite humorous as it was on there when she bought it.
You have to wonder why all these cancerous things have just one thing in common, California. Clearly California causes cancer.
Those stickers may not be helping prevent cancer, but I can tell you they are helping increase blood pressures. Every time I see one of the godcursed things, I want to scream at the arrogance and stupidity of the whole thing.
Tell your neighbor that someone that doesn’t even own a microwave told them to go fuck themselves.
+1
Such a minuscule virtue to signal. Burners are around 15,000 BTU, and only on for, what, half an hour or a full hour a day? Furnaces are a lot hotter and on much longer, more than making up for being on only half the year. Hot water heaters are on much longer.
I’ve been hearing a lot about these natural gas bans that seem to be popular in deep blue enclaves, curiously, they seem to exempt outdoor gas grills, or generators -yet…. So will Asian restaurants then just move their stoves outside, or cook it in food trucks? The progs will catch on soon enough no doubt and shut those down too.
Presumably because it's done through the building code, so they have to demonstrate that the change is for health or safety, and burning unvented gas inside does produce some less than salutary byproducts.
Then again, that didn't stop California from citing all sorts of gobbledygook regarding how climate change affects health and safety for their green building standards, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Commercial gas ranges are all required already to have hoods above them for venting.
Typically a gas cooktop burns with an open flame so it has excess oxygen. As a result it actually cleans the air by completing combustion of any present carbon monoxide. Granted any slopped cooking oil that lights up isn't going to burn clean but gas, either CNG or LPG, does.
Yup. Electric stoves just aren't the same thing. Won't heat evening. And even more wasteful of carbon (electricity gotta be generated somehow).
So without gas chefs gonna use... wood? Okay for some barbecues that would work, but throw consistency out the window. Maybe briquets. But electric sucks.
They could bring in charcoal grills to handle the high/immediate heat processes.
The impact would be felt especially by Asian restaurants
INSTRUCTIONS TO ALL WHITE PERSONS OF ASIAN ANCESTRY...
"Owner Leo Lee said he won't open a second location of his Cantonese-style barbecue restaurant if the ban is upheld."
That is the end-game. We won't need restaurants in the socialist future - we'll have our local communal food dispensary where we will all eat bugs together in socialist harmony in between shifts at state fulfillment warehouse #2641 before we return to our assigned sleeping pods for mandatory off-shift rest.
All restaurants will be Taco Hell.
Sort of like Soviet Russia in the "good old days" when private kitchens were essentially outlawed on the premise that a family might be plotting the overthrow of the country, but if everyone cooked and ate together, there would always be plenty of busybody ears and eyes to monitor everything?
If I'd seen this anywhere else I'd've taken it as a joke or a lie. If it is for keepsies, the People's State will have to allow engineers to reopen some perfectly good idle reactors.
Carbon neutral renewable energy provides around 7% of energy needs nationwide, but it's going to have to provide 100% by 2045. 13 years to replace 93% of current energy needs.
What could possibly go wrong?
Rolling blackouts, anyone?
23 years. Climate change is apparently degrading my math skills.
Same difference. Unreliable energy is still going to cause rolling blackouts. Whether it's 3 , 13 or 23 years only affects how many rolling blackouts there will be.
Is this where we point out that since about 44% of LA electricity is produced by natural gas at an efficiency of about 36% it's actually cleaner to cook with gas than electricity. We'll ignore the other sources of electricity that are actually dirtier and who knows how the power is generated that's imported from Mexico.
Cooking with gas: 90 mbtu of cooking with 100 mbtu gas used at 90% efficiency.
Cooking with electricity: 90 mbtu of cooking with 44% from gas produced electricity = 39.6 mbtu electric from gas. 39.6 mbtu at 36% efficiency = 110 mbtu of gas used.
Note, 36% efficiency is generation only subtract another 5% for transmission losses and it's closer to 128 mbtu of gas used.
Same BS going on in the "nicer" neighborhoods around Boston.
******************
[Slightly OT, when I moved a few years back, a coworker asked where and when she heard she went on to ask "Oh, a good liberal neighborhood?".
To which I replied "No, nice people".
I think that was the last time she talked to me.]
CA already has rolling blackouts every summer and they want to use _more_ electricity.
Never under-estimate the stupidity of the left.
"Californication" is coming to your state. Just keep voting and see.
Voting is self-enslavement, choosing to be ruled, i.e., forcefully governed by initiating violence, threats, fraud. This is NOT protection. It is exploitation! Why do you do it to yourself?
