Brickbat: Come Fly with Me

U.S. Rep. Kai Kahele, D–Hawaii, appears to have been in Washington, D.C., just once since the start of the year. He has cast five in-person votes in 2022, all in January. He's used proxies to cast his other votes. Kahele cites his concerns over COVID-19 for his absence from Congress. But local media outlets report he has been traveling the islands meeting with constituents and elected officials and possibly preparing for a run for governor. He has also been working as a pilot for Hawaiian Airlines. A spokesperson said Kahele only flies "occasional flights to maintain his certification."

1 down, 434 to go.
Why is he afraid of COVID? His sea shell necklace surely has more protective power than a T-shirt mask.
A rep staying home more than DC is far preferable to a rep staying in DC more than home. This is an odd brickbat.
Spot on. this is how our Congress-persons should be.
At home, and treating it like a part-time job.
Every Congressman should have a day job. And Congress should only meet every other year, for a couple of weeks, long enough to pass the budget and address any urgent issues. We have way too many laws already, how often do we really need to add more?
And if he can fly himself from wherever to DC, all the better.
Always good to have something to fall back on.
