Brickbat: Old-Fashioned P.E.

Craig A. Schmeckpeper, a former physical education teacher in Nebraska's North Bend Elementary School, has been charged with child abuse not resulting in serious injury. The incident happened in a P.E. class in which police said Schmeckpeper pinned a student's arms behind his back before telling the rest of the class to line up and hit the boy while he held him. Schmeckpeper reportedly said "free hits" and "free punches" as students walked by.

Ha, that type of gym teacher still exists.
Yeah, they're a bunch of Schmeckpepers!
This is how Leonard Skinner got a famous band named after him.
They used to be the norm. I actually got excused from PE in 9th grade because of the way the teacher treated me. They just took me out of the class to shut me up rather than try to discipline a popular teacher.
"Ha"? That kind of abuse makes you laugh, or makes you happy?
Sadly, yes, that type of gym teacher still exists.
Makes me wonder what Chuckles left out from the time up to this part of the incident.
Yeah. I get the distinct impression that if the teacher were an abject sociopathic bully, he would've known he was putting his career in jeopardy by doing this and, if he weren't, he had a reason to believe he was in the right (or somehwere in between).
That said, "The alleged victim also reported that he felt pain from having his arms pinned back during the incident." suggests the "Toughen up, weenie." lesson utterly failed.
And what exactly could he have left out that might have justified this treatment?
He's resigned and probably good riddance; unfortunately, you can never rely on Reason to provide any context that explains what actually happened start to finish. Kids rough housing goes back centuries i.e. '... but when walking along the sidewalk, if you saw an empty Lucky Strike cigarette pack on the ground you could put your foot on it, yell Lucky Strike and punch your buddy.....' There are (were?) all kinds of rough house games this idiot probably grew up.
If only he molested the student then the left would have defended him
It's likely that he was aroused.
Schmeckpeper? Smells phony to me.
Yeah, April 1st was last week.
Would Reason be upset if the victim was white, and the teacher and other kids were POCs?
Depends on whether the 'free shots' were of the fist, 9mm, or .25 gauge variety.
Privately, perhaps, but they wouldn't have posted the story.
Skin color is the most important thing.
Kid had it coming, clearly.
That is the face I make when asked to do core exercises.
No point n punning this story—it already has its own punch line
