Brickbat: Defund These Police?

When a Redmond, Washington, police officer shot Andrea Churna six times, killing her, she was unarmed, lying on the floor of the hallway outside her apartment and complying with police orders. That was Sept. 20, 2020. The King County Sheriff's Office, which is investigating the shooting, says the officer who fired the shots and other officers on the scene have refused to cooperate with the investigation. Those officers have not talked to sheriff's deputies but instead provided unsigned, undated statements written by their union attorney. And the local prosecutor has yet to file any charges. Churna was having mental issues and called police thinking someone was trying to kill her. When they arrived, she was armed and admitted firing a shot. But The Seattle Times reports she had placed the weapon down and had been lying on the ground for more than three minutes before she was shot.

Her retired police commander father should know exactly what you get when you're in mental health crisis and call police. He should also know how accountable police usually are.
Well at least her mental health crisis is over. And we have our heroes in blue to thank for their bravery.
Think of all the money they saved the state and her insurance company.

“I can think of no state of human misery that could not be made instantly worse by the arrival on the scene of a policeman.” - Brendan Behan.
Hopefully, there will come a day soon where a relative of a SC justice will be shot by a cop and they’ll begin to doubt the wisdom of having armed agents of the state responding to medical emergencies.
And? They'll either be of late-RBG-esque consequences or they'll doubt the wisdom right up until they visit Texas:
(keep in mind, this CNN!)
True
Most cops actually believe they're the good guys, so it's entirely possible that the father was surprised. It's people who ask cops for help who understand that there are no good guys.
Ohh easy case of qi, unless there is another case of shooting the daughter of a police commander
It appears also that those three are still on the job.
Fuck Joe Biden.
The King County prosecutor hasn't brought any charges? That doesn't sound like the Dan Satterberg we all know and love.
That page is written so weirdly.
You don’t get to fire a shot at someone then act all cuddly afterwards without likely repercussions.
The police are supposed to stop shooting when the immediate threat no longer exists. But they also have a union and qualified immunity.
"But they also have a union and qualified immunity."
Not to mention no cumbersome limits on magazine capacity.
"The police are supposed to stop shooting when the immediate threat no longer exists."
In this case they didn't start shooting until after the threat no longer existed.
So the story reports. Badgecam videos would be nice. If the suspect was going for the gun she just dropped, shooting her is a justifiable use of deadly force.
Not until her hand touched it. They were close enough to have kicked it away from her or just picked it up.
I assure you, if you shoot someone who isn’t currently armed and you can see the weapon isn’t in their hand, a jury won’t see you acting reasonably.
"The Seattle Times reports she had placed the weapon down and had been lying on the ground for more than three minutes before she was shot."
#believeallnewsreports ??
The damn article also says there were no witness or video surveillance; what could possibly be an accurate source for this report?
Seattle times woke third eye
So we should believe the cops who did everything but move the gun from the balcony to the hallway in order to cover their own asses?
"Those officers have not talked to sheriff's deputies but instead provided unsigned, undated statements written by their union attorney."
And that's why we love unions, right?
Union lawyer should be arrested for accessory after the fact. Assholes like that should be made an example.
Team Red: The police are always right! Unless they are the Capital police!
Pretty sure Team Red also thought mostly peaceful protesters shouldn't be burning down private businesses, churches, dumpsters in Kenosha, and federal courthouses but, when you've got phony-baloney "BOWF SIDEZ!" narratives to uphold, Harumph!
Is that anything like the phony-baloney "Every protest was a riot and every protester was a rioter! Denounce every single protester as a rioter or you're a leftist!" narrative pushed by conservative idiots on this forum?
Captain strawman strikes again!

So you're saying Jan. 6th wasn't an insurrection?
Capitol.

All she did was fire shots and refuse to follow directions.
