Brickbat: Ain't That a Kick in the Head

Officials in Orangeburg, South Carolina, have agreed to pay $650,000 to Clarence Gailyard, who was stomped on his head and neck by a city police officer. Gailyard was walking with a stick wrapped in tape that someone mistook for a firearm. That person called 911. Officer David Lance Dukes responded and ordered Gailyard to the ground. Gailyard, who walks with a cane and has pins and rods in one leg, did not comply quickly enough for Dukes, who stomped his head into the ground. Dukes was fired and later charged with felony assault and battery. The city has also apologized to Gailyard.

Officer David Dukes, hunh? Was he working in the 'hood?
The officer feared for his life not living up to his namesake.
I hope Gailyard sticks it to Orangeburg.
Am guessing the cane was 3 feet long given that it was a Gailyard stick.
You know who’s no daisy? Dukes.
It’s ok to sometimes skip the puns.
No grasshopper, it is not.
Kaufman and later McDonald sometimes would troll their audience. 😉

He must have friends in high places, because cities never apologize.
To add insult to injury, open carry of long guns is legal without a permit in SC.
Open carry is legal in many places, and the cops will always respond to a call of someone with a gun. It happens all the time. This case only made the news because the races involved. Otherwise it was a normal day at the office.
After a search for "Brickbat" I had to read this twice, and check the date wasn't April 1. But here at last is solid evidence that Reason journalism and LP spoiler votes can and do make a difference now and then. Even Honduras has libertarians cropping up here and there...
