Brickbat: Reckless Driving

New Haven, Connecticut, police officer Robert Ferraro has been placed on administrative leave after being charged in Las Vegas with reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol and/or a controlled substance resulting in death. Ferraro was driving a Rolls-Royce Cullinan with three other officers and two women as passengers. The vehicle left the roadway, crashing into a vehicle in a private driveway, and then collided with "utility poles, landscaping and a fire hydrant." A Las Vegas police department report said Ferraro appeared to be impaired when officers arrived. One of the other officers, Joshua Castellano, was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Death of a civilian is one thing, but loss of LEO life means that Ferraro is likely going to be staying in Vegas due to what happened in Vegas.
Iswydt. Vegas will be his new haven.

Anniversaries are the perfect time to remember why we are there. Remember why we keep trying, why we care so much and why we want to keep doing it. It's finding your reflection in the eyes of the person you love and realizing the smile in your face.
It is a moment to look back on time and see the road traveled with all the willingness to keep walking that same stretch, to keep walking by their side.

I was aware of Rolls Royce models of the past like Phantoms, Silver Ghosts, and Silver Wraiths, but I’d never heard of a Cullinan. It sounds like an Irish guy, not a Rolls. So I looked it up…it’s an SUV!
So first Porsche switches over to SUVs, then Maserati does, and now Rolls Royce does too? Was there something wrong with a Range Rover as a ridiculously expensive British luxury SUV? What’s next, minivans?
Have you ever taken a ride in a Range Rover? They’re not comfortable. Just expensive.
If you sold me a new Range Rover for five dollars, I’d sell it for six and be happy I’d gotten rid of it before it ended up needing repairs. Let some other idiot get stuck with it.
No, but I have taken a ride in a Land Rover. Those things are, or were, the real deal when it comes to SUVs. And lots of expensive cars are money pits, especially when purchased secondhand.
The old classic Land Rovers were not luxury vehicles. Strange how they morphed into luxury and got the cache of elegance.
"No, but I have taken a ride in a Land Rover. Those things are, or were, the real deal when it comes to SUVs. And lots of expensive cars are money pits, especially when purchased secondhand."
Maybe the old school Defenders, and yeah, yeah, 'Muh Camel Trophy', but Range Rovers have been especially unreliable pieces of shit. Even compared to other expensive makes.
SUVs---or as the Germans (allegedly) call them, Hausfraupanzers---are immensely popular. Along with crossovers. (But don't you dare call them station wagons.) Not surprising that luxury makes are going to try and exploit that market.
I'm just wondering why this particular wreck is worth Reason's time. The cop got charged, right? Did he pull a badge, demand professional courtesy, or that people were to give him their evidence against him? If he got trashed, wrecked his car, and killed his passenger, ring him up for intox manslaughter and move on. Just like we do with everyone else.
Its weird that station wagons have lost their cachet when they came into existence as a vehicle to service the wealthy.
'station' as in 'take my luggage to the train station, I'm going to the estate for the weekend'.
Oh man, whether they use it or not, I'm stealing "hausfraupanzer".
Well, yes. Like not being uncomfortable or falling apart all the time - that fabulous British craftsmanship!
There is used 2021 Rolls Royce Cullinan for sale in Beverly Hills for $495,000. One can rent one for $2500/day in Vegas (plus a $5000 deposit).
I guess we can rest easy knowing the Vegas cops aren't being underpaid.
And one of them is now a Rolls Royce Ghost.
If they have video footage, would like to see if the vehicle Rolls over during the crash.
The officers involved are/were from Connecticut. Not reading the linked article but my trick knee is telling me the two women might have bern from the Vegas area…
Probably tour guides.
Actress/models. Specializing in intimate venue performances.
Unless there is an identical case where a drunken police officer driving a Rolls Royce in Las Vegas crashed his car, the driver should receive qualified immunity.
The owner of the parked car as well as the utility companies should be charged in the death of the passenger.
The Rolls has a seating capacity of 5.
It weighs 3 tons.
There were 6 in the vehicle.
It hit a vehicle, utility pole, and a fire hydrant.
I have forgotten a lot of my physics classes, but the speed might have been a bit excessive for a residential area.
Oh, wait, cops.
QI
Nothing to see here - - - - -
At least they won't get QI because they weren't on duty.
A cop killing another cop? I don't think professional courtesy will protect him here.
Was the deceased wearing a mask? And did he test positive for COVID because if so, this is a COVID death where White Mike will tell us it was caused by the unvaccinated.
"Ferraro was driving a Rolls-Royce Cullinan"
Would have been funnier if he was driving a Ferarri.
Or a Pontiac Fiero
A Fiero 2M4. Because a cop couldn't handle the overwhelming horsepower of a 2M6.
Hey, the Fiero with the 6 was a good car if it didn't catch fire on you.
They are surprisingly mod-able. I have relatives that drag race them. I forget what their 1/8th ETs were, but it seemed like good clean American fun.
Aside, I wonder what percentage of a Las Vegas or L.A. exotic car company's stable gets wrecked over the course of a year? On the one hand, having driven a bunch in a past job, I was usually incredibly paranoid about it touching anything besides the road. On the other, I wasn't trashed in Vegas while driving them, like I'm guessing a decent chunk of their clientele are.
With a $5000 rental deposit and mandatory insurance, I don’t think the rental company cares much if half their stable of vehicles is wrecked.
always let the chick drive so when the cops show up she's the one in trouble.
I'm surprised their female companions weren't charged with prostitution to deflect attention from the accident.

Bacteria are the most widely used protein expression systems for their rapid growth, high yield, ease of manipulation and scale-up.
He was placed on administrative leave as a result of reckless driving and under the influence of drugs. Do you think if this was an ordinary citizen, was he only going to be placed on administrative leave? What is the type of car?? What is the category of the car and was the car clean or full of garbage?
