Brickbat: Sorry, Wrong Number
A New Orleans 911 operator is facing arrest, accused of hanging up on callers without obtaining necessary information or relaying that information to dispatchers. Precious Stephens has been charged with malfeasance in office. Stephens was fired after an audit of random calls found problems with how she was handling her calls. She faces up to five years in prison.

My Precious!
Nasty Hobbitses lying! Don’t believe them, Precious! (Also don’t take their calls.)
At least they didn’t indicate that the caller’s extended vehicle warranty was about to expire.
OK, so tell me I got this right.

Hanging up the phone, 5 years?
Why doesn’t she get qualified immunity? Is she black?
Easy, her actions stopped police from doing their job, 1 thru 3 on your list.
Since when do police need necessary information to kill things and steal stuff?
They at least need to know what address they are supposed to go to so they can go to the wrong address
Serious guess at the reasons they aren’t covering for her: 911 operators at least in NOLA aren’t employees of the police department or the district attorney’s office, and aren’t members of the police union. She’s just a “civilian” and therefore subject to the same rules as the rest of us. And then she dropped a 911 call from the family of someone who *was* with the police or DA office.
Of course your last suggestion is plausible too.
She doesn’t get qualified immunity because she is facing criminal charges, not a civil suit. Qualified immunity is only relevant to civil suits.
Qualified immunity doesn’t protect against criminal charges – but unless a pretty bad video hits the six o’clock news, employees of the Police Department hardly ever have to worry about the DA filing charges against them. Did Precious make the news by hanging up on a report of something like an elementary school on fire, or did she hang up on a VIP?
She deliberately hung up on emergency callers. Why (animosity) is not relevant.
The only way for her to claim it wasn’t deliberate is for her to say she is so incompetent that she doesn’t know how to use a phone and was unintentionally hanging up on people.
Oh, and did you get the allusion to the radio play and movie?
Qualified immunity is only relevant to civil suits.
