Plastic, Perfected
Researchers have developed a promising and "infinitely recyclable" plastic called polydiketoenamine.

Useful and infinitely malleable, plastics are ubiquitous in modern life. They are also a mixed blessing.
Plastic detritus litters landscapes and befouls the oceans, and Americans are estimated to ingest about nine ounces of microplastics a year. The U.S. annually generates about 280 pounds of plastics per capita. Despite all the earnest sorting by householders, only about 9 percent of plastics is actually recycled, while 16 percent is incinerated. The remaining 75 percent is landfilled, accounting for 12.2 percent of municipal solid waste.
But there is reason for optimism that we can have unproblematic plastics.
One of the biggest obstacles to recycling current plastics is that they are usually mixed with dyes, adhesives, and metals that make isolating the plastics energy-intensive and expensive. Most current plastics also become increasingly brittle as they get recycled, which is why it's much cheaper to manufacture virgin plastics out of fossil fuels. Fortunately, several research groups and companies are developing and deploying more recycling-friendly plastics.
A team of researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has developed an "infinitely recyclable" plastic called polydiketoenamine, or PDK. Items made of PDK can be bathed in acid that separates the plastic molecules from any additives; this material can then be reassembled into different shapes, textures, and colors again and again without loss of performance or quality. While producing virgin PDK resin is initially expensive, the researchers calculate that recycled PDK resin will be competitive with petroleum-based virgin plastic resins.
Meanwhile, the Israeli company UBQ Materials converts 100 percent unsorted household waste—containing food, mixed plastics, paper, cardboard, and packaging materials—into a composite thermoplastic material that can replace plastic polymers in hundreds of applications. An independent life-cycle analysis found that every ton of UBQ material produced prevents greenhouse emissions equivalent to 11.7 tons of carbon dioxide. While regular plastics degrade after their first use, UBQ says its product—which is already being used by Daimler, McDonald's restaurants, and Keter Group, an Israeli furniture manufacturer—can be recycled more than five times without degrading.
Another team of researchers at the University of Delaware's Center for Plastics Innovation has developed a novel catalyst and a unique, low-temperature process to quickly break down hard-to-recycle single-use plastics, including polypropylene, polystyrene, and everyday polyethylene bottles and bags. Instead of burying or directly burning these plastics, the new technique turns them into higher-value lubricants and diesel, jet, and gasoline fuels.
Given innovations like these, it is possible that plastics won't pose environmental challenges in the future.

Also please note that whale-bone and whale-boners can replace plastic as structural materials for many applications. Unlike plastic, the source materials are 100% bio-renewable resources!

Plastic press release detritus befouls the Reasonscape, as recycling hype continues.
What could possibly go wrong with saving the Earth with an expensive plastic that can be disposed of in your friendly neighborhood acid bath instead of the nearest ocean ?
Probably something: too expensive for many applications, causes cancer, but it will probably end up like a lot of other materials — useful in certain applications, ends up not being a silver bullet.
Researchers have developed a promising and "infinitely recyclable" plastic called polydiketoenamine.
Actually, all plastic is already recyclable, it just that the damn recycled grocery bags don't hold up as good as the originals used to make them.
And "polydikedoenamine"? Is that like a Lesbian foot fetish?

Ah, but it was Petroleum that replaced whale blubber oil as a source of heat and light and thus saved the whale in the 19th Century.
Unless you're planning on doing liposuction and vat growing of whale bone, you'd be back to hunting the whale into extinction. That wouldn't be too bio-renewable.
Karen will still whine about 'plastic pollution', and how we still need the green new deal to make everyone else do what she wants.

Sea turtles snort cocaine through plastic straws? Good to know that plastic straws that reach the oceans, are being put to good use! Now I can throw my straws wherever I want, in good conscience!
I advocate glass bottles. They too can be re-cycled, but also they can be re-used up to 20 times with relatively simple cleaning.
They can also be used as weapons.
Which means Biden would look to leave hundreds of thousands of them behind in Afghanistan so Taliban fighters would get them.

“Former President Donald Trump was booed by his own supporters during a rally in Cullman, Alabama Saturday night after he encouraged the crowd to get vaccinated against COVID-19.”
No no, I've been told over and over again that the choice to get or not get a vaccine is a personal decision that individuals of good will can take reasonable positions on either side, that we shouldn't judge or condemn people who make a different choice than ourselves, and that the choice to not get a vaccine is totally not a political statement - because that would be just foolish, to risk one's own health in order to 'pwn the libs' - but the result of carefully considered risks and benefits.
Oh who are we kidding. These idiots aren't going to get the vaccine because they think it's a librul plot to poison them and they won't get the vaccine until they personally are affected by it, without regards to the larger community as a whole whatsoever.

1. I voted for JoJo and don't regret it one bit.
2. If you want others to take your vision of libertarianism seriously, then maybe you should stop construing it as little more than right-wing narcissism and paranoia.
Narcissism and paranoia is best exemplified by denying everyone else's rights because your fatass is scared of a virus with a 99.99% survival rate for the average person.
Narcissism is, "I don't have to do anything that I don't want to do unless it personally affects me"
Paranoia is, "There's microchips in the vaccine therefore I will listen to some nutcase on Youtube tell me the 'real truth' about the vaccines"
"Narcissism is, “I don’t have to do anything that I don’t want to do unless it personally affects me”"
No, that's the fundamental principle of individual rights and autonomy.
"Paranoia is, “There’s microchips in the vaccine therefore I will listen to some nutcase on Youtube tell me the ‘real truth’ about the vaccines”"
And that's a strawman talking point you've been handed to repeat when you need to deflect from your indefensible position.
No, that’s the fundamental principle of individual rights and autonomy.
That is a toddler's conception of liberty. While we have the right to act like an asshole, we should have enough self-control and maturity to not always act like an asshole all of the time. It is understandable you have a problem with that concept, though.
Then why do you act like an asshole all the time?
Jeff makes the comics.

Lol
Fuck, that cartoon's perfect sarcasmic.
"While we have the right to act like an asshole, we should have enough self-control and maturity to not always act like an asshole all of the time"
But you want to make it illegal to be an asshole any of the time.
Besides, you can't be trusted with the definition of asshole.
You constantly take perfectly legitimate, non-asshole activities, and scream that they're assholery and should be censured.
So if I don't make an immediate medical decision during a time of government censorship regarding that decision and have not changed in any meaningful way before said decision was on the table; I am now an asshole.
Weird that with reasoning like that floating around, I am hesitant to jump on the train.
Weird how you three keep bringing up microchips when it is such a fringe conspiracy and never brought up here. You use that fringe idea to reinforce your belief that others should do exactly what you want them to do.
You deny science. The APA was just caught removing the importanc eof facial expressions from teachers and parents on young kids, citing a database migration. Of course it happened right as they released a statement on kids and masks in schools. This is anti science, the type of stuff you agree with. You would have been a follower of Lysenko. You believe in politics based science of research based science. It is why you believe models more than primary data.
So the REAL scientists like MarxistJesseBahnFuhrer believe that there ARE microchips in the vaccines! Gotcha!
You resent the hell out of the fact that many other people are flat-out, better, more honest people than you are, right? More “live and let live”, and WAAAY less authoritarian?

From the conclusion to the above…
These findings suggest that we don’t need to downplay personal triumphs to avoid negative social consequences, as long as we make it clear that we don’t look down on others as a result.

They’re not getting vaccinated because you people told them they’re assholes unless they get vaccinated. So of course they’re not.
Sort of like how you people believed the virus couldn’t possibly come from a Chinese lab because Trump and Fox News said it could.
a) It’s stupid and self-destructive and childish to refrain from doing something useful to one’s personal health, and community health, because someone you disrespect would like you to do it.
b) I don’t claim to know whether the COVID-19 virus came from a Chinese laboratory. I have seen some non-conclusive evidence it did, and I have seen analyses that say that there is too large of a genetic difference between COVID-19 and the virii they were working with for it to have come from there.
It’s stupid to treat people like idiots and then wonder where the trust went.
True. We are talking past each other, about different aspects of the same scenario.
I guess the same could be said for people who tell other people that they’re communist totalitarians when, in reality, they just want the government to take care of old people and the sick. That might be why BERNIE Sanders is head of the Banking Cmte in the Senate.
“I made a hobby of trolling the libertarian site, but they were so unreasonable! Boo boo!”
You’re the one arguing that we should pay attention to the tender feelings of people who think the Covid-19 vaccine is an insidious plot against everyone as opposed to using rational thought in response to a pandemic. Right here:
They’re not getting vaccinated because you people told them they’re assholes unless they get vaccinated. So of course they’re not.
"How dare you question the credibility of Big Pharma and object to the huge profits they make from the confiscated earnings of the working and middle classes!"
I stand squarely behind my comment.
What you comment does not say is whether you think this is a reasonable stance for the people refusing to get vaccinated to take.
You are very concerned about the other people who are hurting the feelings of those not getting vaccinated.
Forcing people to take drugs against their will is unreasonable.
Who said anything about forcing people to be vaccinated?
It is reasonable for people to make individual healthcare decisions for themselves.
in reality, they just want the government to take care of old people and the sick
I'll go out on a limb and say I don't want govt to take care of...
They (govt) are doing an improbably bad job of it if you've been listening to how bad health care is since the ACA and all its diversions. All that's needed is more govt involvement another they say.
This goes for every social issue - which they (govt) have failed to resolve or improve.
I find the story illustrative that the Big Lie can eventually grow and grow until it overcomes and rejects the Big Liar.

Kill yourself, totalitarian trash.
Do it, and I'll happily piss on your grave
I'm not the fat fucking faggot advocating centrally planned, top-down totalitarianism for the collective "good"
I'm not advocating any of those things.
You, however, are advocating for outright violence and civil war and murdering people who disagree with you politically.
I think that puts you slightly more into the "dangerous and needs psychological help" category.
Here we see collectivistjeff outright lie, as he usually does
No, you really do advocate for murdering the people that disagree with you politically. That's not a lie.
Not murder, and not your collectivist cope.
Yes, you 100% advocate centrally planned totalitarianism imposed on the broad population.
Not murder? Because deaths during wartime don't count as murder?
You say "It'd be a great idea if you did xyz" and they read "I want government to force you to xyz."
Can't have a rational conversation with irrational people.
Because authoritarianism is never a great idea sarcasmic. No matter how much you want it.
And Jeff has literally said you should do it voluntarily or the government will make you.
So enjoy defending your new best friend.
Of course. Should have known, you're another one of the crowd that have abandoned all semblance of principles.
"I will happily accuse others of doing horrible things that I myself would have no problem doing against the people that I don't like!"
Bitch, you argue that anyone not taking an experimental drug or wearing a mask then leaving their home during a declared "pandemic" is assault upon the public and should be viewed as a crime.
I'm simply judging you by your own collectivist standards.
I don't argue that being sick in public is necessarily "assault". I do, however, think the libertarian position of what to do during a pandemic should be more complicated and nuanced than simply asserting an individual right to do whatever the hell one wants regardless of how it affects anyone else.
Think of it this way. If you start a fire on your own property, and then the fire - due to no fault of your own - spreads to a neighbor's property and damages it, should you be held liable, in some sense, for the damage to your neighbor's property? I think the answer ought to be "yes". It isn't arson, but it is perhaps negligence.
So I am saying that there is an analogous view to be had when it comes to spreading a virus during a pandemic. The analogy with fires is not exact of course because there are differences between fires and virus. But, should there be some degree of culpability when it comes to the infected person interacting in public? I am willing to listen to reasoned and reasonable arguments that discuss the issue. What I'm not willing to listen to, is an assertion that there is no culpability for individuals who knowingly spread harm to others, based on a toddler's conception of liberty. "I can do what I want, and you can't make me do otherwise!" That is 'toddler libertariansm' and I am not interested in a philosophical framework that relies entirely on the assumptions that a toddler might make.
So, there you go. I have zero confidence in your ability to contribute meaningfully to the subject. But, go ahead and continue to advocate for murdering people you don't like. I'm sure that will persuade lots and lots of people.
Here collectivistjeff proves the point while whining about it, then pretends its opinion has value.
"Its" above referring of course to the collectivistjeff virus
Here, you prove that you offer nothing constructive to any conversation.
You've made it clear that you want the toddler's viewpoint of liberty. You get to do whatever you want, and if anyone else has a problem with it, that's their problem and they need to deal with it and get the hell out of my way and shut the fuck up and go kill yourself if you have a problem with any of it. That is not a thoughtful view of liberty. That is a narcissistic entitled immature view of liberty. It is no wonder that so many ordinary people are now more comfortable with curtailing fundamental liberties - because people like YOU, unrepentant narcissistic assholes, are more and more becoming the face of "liberty". When ordinary people associate "liberty" with "narcissistic assholism", it is no wonder that they will vote against it. You need to grow up and start viewing that the world does not revolve around you. It is possible to have a system of liberty which does not also mean everyone is an entitled asshole prick.
You shouldn't use words you don't understand, and you should stop stuffing your fat face. Maybe get some exercise. Then perhaps whether or not I take an experimental drug or wear a piece of cloth in front of my face wouldn't concern you so much.
You're not entitled to use State force to make me live the rituals you prescribe. Your beliefs are unjustifiable, but since the authorities (illegitimate but nonetheless in place) have decided to spread mass hysteria among the population, you think being part of the hivemind is the same as being right.
Your beliefs don't magically become something other than totalitarian collectivism just because you come up with an analogy that you think justifies totalitarian collectivism.
I don't give a fuck what your confidence is in my ability to contribute to your passive-aggressive fantasy. You, and the left broadly, have proven that you have no interest or ability to have a reasonable discussion, compromise, or live and let live. You're driven by hatred, resentment, and desire for absolute dominion over anybody who thinks independently. Dressing these motives up in altruistic terms doesn't change their nature.
We are past the point of discussion, and that is 100% your/the left's fault. 100%. You are the virus, not covid, and must be defended against.
See how it lies:
Assertion - "you argue that anyone not taking an experimental drug or wearing a mask then leaving their home during a declared “pandemic” is assault upon the public and should be viewed as a crime."
Non-denial deflection - "I don’t argue that being sick in public is necessarily “assault”. I do, however, think the libertarian position of what to do during a pandemic should be more complicated and nuanced than simply asserting an individual right to do whatever the hell one wants regardless of how it affects anyone else"
Sick people should stay home. High risk people, including fatties, should really get vaccinated. Karens should quarantine.
Simple stuff.
But, in order to soothe the feelz of the fatties and Karens and seize totalitarian control, The Science has declared all shall be treated as if they're sick.
If a healthy person objects, because he or she is healthy, to being banned from walking down the street, we'll justify it by arguing that sick people don't have a right to go up to others and cough into their mouths, pretending this is a legitimate response to the healthy person's objection.
You’re not entitled to use State force to make me live the rituals you prescribe.
On this we agree. I don't advocate for the state forcing you to wear a mask or to get a vaccine.
The rest of it is just your paranoia speaking, without regards to what it means to be a responsible citizen in a diverse society.
You want to be an asshole? Fine, you have every right to be an asshole. Go ahead and be an asshole. Flaunt your assholery in public. But then DON'T BE SURPRISED when everyone else gets upset by it. And if you justify your assholery in the name of liberty, then don't be surprised when they turn on the concept of liberty itself.
You don't actually want to live among other people who might disagree with you. You want to live your life however you like, as craptastically as you want, and never be criticized or called out about it. What you actually want is freedom from judgment. Which only can happen if you live in a community where everyone agrees 100% with you. Good luck finding that type of 'paradise'. In the real world, we all make reasonable accommodations for each other because we are decent human beings. We do so even in the absence of government coercion that would force us to do so. Because it is a part of being a decent human being living among other people with different beliefs or ideas than you have. That frightens you and scares you and so instead of trying to reconcile yourself with people with whom you might disagree, you instead want to murder them. This is part and parcel of the modern right-wing rejection of pluralism itself. This is evident in their hostility towards immigration and voting rights. They no longer want to live in a place where they have to defend their ideas on their own merits instead of having them taken for granted. So they will rig the rules in order to try to keep themselves at the top of the pecking order. From a long term perspective that strategy is doomed to fail, so you had better get used to trying to accommodate yourself to them, AS WELL AS others accommodating themselves to you.
Nardz, you are a child. You have the mentality and the maturity of a child when it comes to liberty and responsibility.
On this we agree. I don’t advocate for the state forcing you to wear a mask or to get a vaccine.
Except for all the times you said people better comply before the government forces them to.
be a responsible citizen in a diverse society.
How authoritatians coerce people into doing what the state wants. See Chinas social score.
You dont get to decide an id ividuals responsibility. Especially in light of you refusing to lower your own health risks from obesity.
You want to be an asshole? Fine, you have every right to be an asshole. Go ahead and be an asshole. Flaunt your assholery in public. But then DON’T BE SURPRISED when everyone else gets upset by it.
You posted an article about someone dying of covid who wasn't even against vaccinations because you wanted to celebrate his death fatty.
What you actually want is freedom from judgment. Which only can happen if you live in a community where everyone agrees 100% with you.
Oh the fucking irony as you daily preach in these threads on how people should act and defer yo experts to live their lives.

Why don't you go fap to whatever the Arizona Audit produced.
Why does JesseAZ do this crap? I have not responded to his comments for a very long while. He's been on my permanent ignore list. And yet there he is, following me around like an anklebiter troll.
Why, Jesse? Why? It can only be because he wants to provoke people with his trolling. He does not care about rational conversation. He has made that exceptionally clear with his constant tu quoques and strawmen and misdirections. He's just another Republican.
Jesse, your team is the team of Marjorie Taylor Greene and the team of "microchips in the vaccine" and the team of Jade Helm conspiracies and the team of birther conspiracies and the team of Matt "sex pervert" Gaetz and the team of irrational anti-democratic lunacy. I don't expect you to actually own up to any of this bullshit but there it is. You could behave like a responsible person or you could continue to be a conspiracy-addled right-wing moron. Your choice.
Seriously jeff? You ask those who are asymptomatic to cover up their mouths because you're obese and fucking scared. Instead of putting cookies down you want to force others to mitigate your risk? The CDC said asymptomatic transmission is near zero but you are asking people to mitigate their behaviors foe an appearance of safety. That is not a libertarian position fatwad
We didn't start fire.
Fauci/Chinese lab should be investigated for starting the fire.
In your analogy, your blaming someone who happened to breath, pushing oxygen into the fire increasing its fuel.
You have no principles jeff. Youre dancing on a grave because you think it is a solid talking point.
So youre fine with being a hypocrite. Good work jeff.
How is that relevant?
Trump delivered the vaccine at light speed alacrity. Thankfully for that, there was a POTUS that was capable of handling a large project. No naps. No mumbling. No finger pointing. No vacations when decisions needed to be made.
US and its NATO ally Germany are urging their civilians still in Kabul to avoid the airport. Several news outlets are reporting deaths just outside the airport. What is the plan to get these people to safety? Or will the US continue to follow what the Taliban wants.
Merkel has condemned the US botching this. The UK parliament condemned President Biden over this failure of a cohesive exit. Macron has commented on how poorly the US has been handling this. China is commenting on how poorly Biden is doing using the opportunity to again threaten Taiwan.
But hey, let’s spend time on a Trump rally. Anything to deflect attention from the worst US international incident since deciding to invade Iraq, which then Senator Biden supported.
Trump delivered the vaccine at light speed alacrity. Thankfully for that, there was a POTUS that was capable of handling a large project. No naps. No mumbling. No finger pointing. No vacations when decisions needed to be made.
In fact, I saw Trump himself in a lab coat in the Pfizer building synthesizing the vaccine himself! What a dreamy hero!
God you really are a Team Red shill. How could you possibly believe this sickening bilge and present it with a straight face.
The only credit Trump deserves for the vaccine is (a) approving the program, and (b) not standing in the way of its development. He didn't do jack shit otherwise. How many times did he vacation at Mar-A-Lago during 2020? I'm thinking the number is more than zero.
Lol. You were congratulating biden in February despite him doing nothing bit take credit you ignorant shit.
You've also pushed the false narrative that the gop is telling people to not get vaccinated despite these videos of them supporting vaccines going back to last year.
So fucking dishonest.
ConfectionistJeff ain’t got time for facts or logic. Too busy pounding peanut butter cups.
Ordinarily it'd've taken a lot longer for a vaccine to get out, and it would not have easily gotten authorization for emergency use. Congress appropriated to buy it all up, and it was done. This was a very political process, going very much against the usual grain of delay in drug licensing. Even I said a year ago there was no way I'd get a vaccine produced at "warp speed", but after a short interval in which I saw many doses given without ill effect, I went for it. It might've been a factor in preventing my getting sick, while my housemate, who was unable to get vaccinated quickly here in NJ (which made it hard to get one), died of CoVID19, although the fact that his diabetes drugs stopped working shortly before he contracted the virus was surely a factor too.
Not only was a deregulatory climate in achieving this important, but it had a further importance in setting a precedent for rapid drug licensing. Surely down the line, no matter how slow FDA licensing may be, this will be used as an example to keep it from being even slower. The fact that Trump was in the White House, both in official function and symbol, made this a go where it might not have been otherwise.
I am sorry to hear of the loss of your housemate. That must have been a difficult time.
The fact that Trump was in the White House, both in official function and symbol, made this a go where it might not have been otherwise.
Well I think that is a stretch. I think anyone in charge at that time would have attempted to move heaven and earth to try to get the vaccine out as soon as possible.
Yes. You can't give any credit to whk you see as political opposssition. Youre a leftist.
“In fact, I saw Trump himself in a lab coat in the Pfizer building synthesizing the vaccine himself! What a dreamy hero!”
You’re being facetious, but that’s not that far off from what Donald, Jr. (not the brightest guy) actually believes.
No it isnt you dishonest shit.
Trump delivered the vaccine at light speed alacrity.
Moderna and Pfizer delivered the vaccine at light speed alacrity.
(fixed it for you)
No no. Chumby saw Trump in a lab coat personally synthesizing the vaccines himself.
And yet you and Buttplug were squealing not to long ago that it was Trump, and not the governors, who was responsible for every Covid death, because he was ultimately in charge.
I wish you guys could settle on a gaslighting narrative. By your logic here the doctors at the hospitals are the ones ultimately responsible for the Covid deaths.
God youre such a dishonest fuck.
Operation Warp Speed.
Now go to prison.
Trump deserves credit for approving Operation Warp Speed and for not standing in its way while it was developing the vaccine.
The rest of it, Trump deserves no credit at all.
Yet above you claim all credit only works if trump was in a lab. Almost like you practice dishonesty to a fault.
Johnson and Johnson delivered theirs a little too fast.
“Former President Donald Trump was booed by his own supporters during a rally in Cullman, Alabama Saturday night after he encouraged the crowd to get vaccinated against COVID-19.”
Yet the White Mike/chemjeff/DOL sockpuppet continuum are constantly telling us that Trump supporters are cultists who obey his every word.
I wish that they would get their gaslighting narratives straight.

STATEMENT
Terry Roberts, attorney for Ashli Babbitt's family:
I have seen nothing to confirm that an internal affairs investigation by the Capitol Police was done or has been completed. But, if true, I challenge Capitol Police to release the detailed findings (if any) of its
investigation. It's not enough to say that an officer did nothing wrong if it cannot demonstrate how it reached that conclusion. I say release the findings to the public so we can determine for ourselves if the investigation was thorough, competent and fair. It wasn't. I predict
the Capitol Police will not release anything substantive because it would demonstrate it conducted a sham "investigation." A one-sided inquiry behind closed doors proves nothing, and it WAS NOT an "exoneration." The world has already seen citizens' videos of the shooting and
has reached a different conclusion - one which is far from clearing the officer.
It's kinda hard to clear a Capitol Police officer of shooting an unarmed woman who was of no immediate threat, when he's caught on camera shooting an unarmed woman who was of no immediate threat.
But by gum the Capitol Police managed to do it.
White Mike Laursen naturally thinks that this is a good thing, as the girl was armed with a very loud voice and the toes of her shoes looked pointy. If she had kicked someone they could have gotten a nasty bruise.
Better a bullet in her brain than a sore shin on an officer.
My thoughts are that the death was the result of an inadvertent discharge and as such is being investigated as a workplace accident with fatality and handled under OSHA rules.

The Hawaiian mask mandate is suffocating for sure.
This really is a terrific breakthrough. It represents a paradigm shift of how we think about plastics and their cleanup costs.
Current plastics are based on very cheap starting materials, but the cleanup costs are outsourced to the commons. The companies that produce the plastics, and the individual consumers who use the plastics, don't specifically have to deal with the cleanup costs of the plastics themselves. But with the PDK type of plastics, the cleanup costs are, to a degree, built in to the cost of making the product itself. The raw material costs are higher due to the greater chemical complexity of these materials, but it's their greater chemical complexity that enable them to be "infinitely recyclable"*. In this sense, the costs of cleanup are, to a degree, paid for by the company and the consumer themselves, and not outsourced to the commons.
*Of course they are not "infinitely recyclable", side reactions will inevitably degrade the performance of these materials over time. But certainly they will be more recyclable than current plastic materials.

Meanwhile the entirely insane Senile Joe (lid called until Wednesday) and his sociopathic protege who is on vacation in Singapore would like you to know they'll force US airlines to pick up stranded Americans and their Afghan "translators". All the while military operations are likely ramping up putting even more people in danger. Now wouldn't that be a sight when a US branded airline gets shot down by a Taliban terrorist and it's all on TV.
Sleepy joe's job approval went negative, and is sinking even faster than his commie VP's, which is saying something. Here I predicted he'd make it two years in so his disastrous and stupid VP could take over, and it's possible they'll both be impeached and removed in early 2023. Of course that would mean McCarthy taking over and maybe nobody really wants that. So GOP pick your speaker of the house wisely. No RINOs.

Yeah, that's another strong contender for the role.
Of course there is no requirement that the Speaker of the House actually be a member of the House, so they could install Donald Trump himself as Speaker if they wanted to.
So perhaps the plan is:
1. Wait for Senile Joe to die
2. Impeach and remove President Kamala
3. Trump becomes President!

https://www.wsj.com/articles/pentagon-tells-airlines-to-help-fly-afghan-evacuees-from-foreign-bases-11629632843
The Pentagon said Sunday it had activated a rarely used program that compels commercial airlines to be used in times of a national emergency, activating 18 civilian aircraft to help evacuate Afghans from Europe and the Middle East.
Officials said the aircraft wouldn’t fly in and out of Kabul but would ferry evacuees in and out of bases in Germany, Qatar and Bahrain.
Where did you read that the civilian aircraft would be operating out of Kabul's airport? Whoever it is, that person is lying to you.
Now wouldn’t that be a sight when a US branded airline gets shot down by a Taliban terrorist and it’s all on TV.
What kind of "sight" would that be? Would it be:
1. A sight that evokes sadness and compassion; or
2. A sight that evokes rage and I-told-you-so's and finger-pointing against Joe Biden?
2. A sight that evokes rage and I-told-you-so’s and finger-pointing against Joe Biden?
How long do you fifty-centers have to suck old Joe's dick before he cums?
Is it still sticky or are you left choking on a cloud of dust?
I envision no commercial airline actually flying in Afghan air space. It could free up the military transport aircraft to fly the Germany-Afgahnistan-Germany routes and let the commercial airlines to fly from Germany to the US. If Biden is arrogant enough to send commercial airlines into Afghanistan that will increase the risk of a plane being shot down.
"It could free up the military transport aircraft to fly the Germany-Afgahnistan-Germany routes and let the commercial airlines to fly from Germany to the US."
Ding, ding. Though I'd read that he was only thinking about activating those 18 airliners, not that it was a done deal.
Probably will start with cleaning out Al Udeid before Germany. As it is, the Qataris are pretty much stopping incoming refugee traffic, due to their not wanting anymore refugees, and that's a convenient close airfield to be able to use. Of course, the Qataris could just keep saying, "No.", no matter how empty you made the base...
"All the while military operations are likely ramping up putting even more people in danger. Now wouldn’t that be a sight when a US branded airline gets shot down by a Taliban terrorist and it’s all on TV."
The government isn't conscripting the airlines to move people out of Afghanistan. They're just using them to ferry people around after they've escaped Afghanistan and they're in Bahrain, Qatar, or Germany, where they're piling up.
The ugly truth, if I'm not mistaken, is that the Biden administration is reluctant to bring them to the United States because once they're in the USA, if they request asylum, the vetting process goes out the window.
Once they're in the USA, if they request asylum, the burden of proof falls on the Biden administration to deport them--despite having a legitimate fear of persecution--rather than any vetting process our military wants them to clear.
It'll be interesting to see how Reason staff respond to the government conscripting the airlines.
I remember them being quite critical of the Trump administration conscripting manufacturers to make ventilators.
Exhibit A:
"The vast, powerful, and incredibly intrusive federal bureaucracy is headed by Trump, who also petulantly invokes the Defense Production Act to forcibly reshape the production and distribution of goods in ways that are already underway, or else that make no sense and threaten to do more harm than good"
----J.D. Tuccille, May 26, 2020
https://reason.com/2020/05/26/the-president-and-governors-alike-botched-the-pandemic-response/
I appreciate the libertarian and capitalist principles behind this, but it'll be interesting to see if the response is the same when the emergency is getting refugees from one place to another rather than trying to save an untold number of Americans from a lack of ventilators.
And like I said, the question, here, isn't about getting the airlines to fly people out of Afghanistan. These commandeered commercial aircraft won't be flying to or from Afghanistan. They'll be flying between Germany and other parts of the world. This isn't about getting people out of Afghanistan. It's about them bottlenecking in places like Germany.
Reason will promote Biden doing it before a decision is even made to do it. And of course blame it on Trump. Something about an insurrection organized by Trump that took away Biden’s laser focus on Afghanistan.
The ugly truth, if I’m not mistaken . . . "
If somebody who knows more about this than I do, please chime in.
The reason they aren't being brought to the United States is because once they cross our border, the burden of proof is on the military to deport them.
I doubt there's a judge in the system who would deny that they're likely to suffer persecution if they ask for asylum. At that point, for the federal government to contest their asylum claim, they'll need to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the Afghan in question is a terrorist security threat, and that will be hard to do.
In other words, don't believe the hype about the Democrats being all heart when it comes to asylum claims. The obvious reason the Biden administration doesn't bring these people to the United States is because it will make it too hard for them to kick these people out if they decide they're too much of a security risk, and they can make that determination with more arbitrary criteria when the people in question have never been within the borders of the United States.
“The ugly truth, if I’m not mistaken…”
In other words, the worlds most self-professed logical person is guessing.

NEW: Australian authorities have shot dead rescue dogs due to Covid restrictions. They shot them to stop volunteers at an animal shelter from travelling to pick them up
Via @smh
If anything will get Karen's ire up worse than the unmasked it's being unkind to puppies.
I think Karens like collectivistjeff are going to overlook murdering puppies because there's a pAnDeMiC and those puppies had to be murdered for the collective "good".
So to kill volunteers from traveling to pick up the dogs, other people had to travel to kill the dogs. And instead of the usual means of killing dogs, they had to use guns, because, uh, presumably they'd avoid contact that way. Which means they had to shoot them in place, which means bullets flying in vicinity of who-knows-whom. And then, what, the dead dogs had to be put into the bin for regular garbage pickup?
A blast from the past - before the Trump Cult ruined this neighborhood called Reason:
https://reason.com/2018/10/25/why-you-are-not-a-conservative/#comments
What is the difference between libertarians and conservatives? It is our unique belief in liberty and its spontaneous ordering, in the way that language or art or science is ordered. We see a world ordered by people having a go within a loose framework of honest rewards. Conservatives (and socialists and most people in the middle) believe in top-down order, as in a loving or authoritarian household.
You book-reading types know that I'm getting "spontaneous order" from Friedrich Hayek and borrowing my title here from his essay "Why I Am Not a Conservative," reprinted at the end of The Constitution of Liberty (1960). Hayek argues that both conservatives and socialists believe, along with most lawyers and soldiers and bureaucrats, that "order [is] the result of the continuous attention of authority." The extravagant modern growth of law as legislation embodies such a belief, to be contrasted with the older tradition of law as the discovered customs of our community. Problem? Make a law, and then go on holiday.

Nevertheless, Hayed wisdom is needed today. Conservatism is retrenching all over the world - The Taliban, Brazil, Hungary, the USA, etc.
Hayek said that conservatives are not capable of modern remedies:
One of the fundamental traits of the conservative attitude is a fear of change, a timid distrust of the new as such, while the liberal position is based on courage and confidence, on a preparedness to let change run its course even if we cannot predict where it will lead.
F. A. Hayek
This fear of trusting uncontrolled social forces is closely related to two other characteristics of conservatism: its fondness for authority and its lack of understanding of economic forces. Since it distrusts both abstract theories and general principles, it neither understands those spontaneous forces on which a policy of freedom relies nor possesses a basis for formulating principles of policy.
F. A. Hayek
Truth.
Uncontrolled forces make an unholy mess out of eco-spheres! THIS is why we need Central Planning to decide how many blades of grass each bunny-rabbit should eat, and how many rabbits each wolf should eat, etc.! THAT would FIX things!!!
(Also the human brain should be re-designed to supervise how may sugar molecules each and every cell in the body shoves into each and every mitochondria).
I like Hayek, but I suspect he would reach different conclusions today about which side of the political divide has more of a "fondness for authority".
and "lack of understanding of economic forces" is just a fancier way of saying "Progressive" or "Green" or "AOC".

The downside of using entrepreneurial driven technological innovations to solve our problems is that that they undermine public support for using socialism and the coercive power of government. And we don't really get that collective satisfaction of knowing that we sacrificed for the greater good--if no one every makes us sacrifice. And in this case, it's like the sacrifice is completely unnecessary! I mean, solutions like this pull the rug out from under the whole purpose of progressivism, and obviously that can't be right. Is there any way we could force people to use this new plastic against their will? That might make it alright.
"A team of researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has developed an "infinitely recyclable" plastic called polydiketoenamine, or PDK"
Except that PDK is already a result of your socialist government in action. I hope your sacrifice is worth it.
A high-priced plastic not in appreciable production that has many low-price alternatives already dominating that marketplace. Sounds like a product of a socialist government.
If only this were an 'entrepreneurial driven technological innovation,' then it would be truly perfect, unsullied by pointy headed socialist elites.
An entrepreneur would recognize that customers would not pay $20 for a QPC meal at McDonalds so they can have it packaged in a wonder plastic.
Innovation is risky business.
Vermont could produce all of their electricity using only dehydrated horse manure biomass power plants. It would just need enough tax money to subsidize. And it would be innovative!
When I stayed in Tibet I burned yak dung in the stove to keep warm. They also use the dung of goats, another high altitude grazer. It burned hotter and was more expensive than yak dung. More and more these days Tibetans use solar powered cookers, subsidized by various governments and NGOs.
I don't suppose you've read Bruce Chatwin's The Songlines. In it he speculates that in the event of some global catastrophe, it will be the nomads of places like Australia and Tibet that will ensure the survival of human kind.
http://library.lol/main/499308FB85DC2FDCC700C4E3F17C6BF6
Do you still heat with yak dung?
The sun is all I've needed for the past decade or so.
So solar is cheaper for you than yak dung.
Do you have to burn it, or could you let it generate heat on its own if you packed the house with enough of it?
In the room there was a brick open topped enclosure about a cubic yard in the corner of the room. It was kept filled with lumps of dry odorless dung the size of a lady's fist.
The reason why the low-priced alternatives have such a low price is that the price of cleanup and recycling those plastics are not built in to the price of the product itself.
That is why PDK represents a paradigm shift. The cost of the recycling and cleanup of plastics made from it are incorporated, to a degree, to the cost of the plastic itself.
Lol. The true cost of disposing of one use plastics is land fills. Could fit the US trash into 1 sq km land fill and it would take 50 years to fill. For fucks sake. Stop looking for ways to force your belief on others.
" Could fit the US trash into 1 sq km land fill and it would take 50 years to fill"
There must be tens if not hundreds of thousands of landfills scattered across the country. And they don't have to be full before they start menacing the surrounding habitat.
Progressives have already tipped their hand with their reaction to vaping, campaigning against it to "save the children", even though vaping saves many young people from the far greater dangers of smoking.
No way this is going to make it. Cost of raw materials is too high and the product isn’t priced high enough. Two big problems.
As with previous new generations of "tech", these problems will be overcome in time. Rich people who care about the environment will happily pay extra for this, as will niche users. Think about the ISS Space Station, and remote bases on and off of the Earth now and in the future, where transport costs are enormous. There, recycling plastics will make tremendous good sense. And then the "tech" grows in volume, and is improved on... With the help of "greedy capitalists" who brought new tech to the masses, like the Vanderbilts and steam-ships!

Look out, new CNN report that "climate change" is making hurricanes worse. Timed perfectly for a (well tropical storm) hitting the expensive real estate. Thanks state and IC controlled media.
But of course that is bullshit, as the UN report says no such thing, and it's been proven that overall cyclonic storm energy is getting lower, not higher.
I'll save you some time when you go "cite?" and I will say "look it up yourself" and then you'll say "lol". There paid trolls don't get paid.
The issue is the expanse of the expensive real estate that appeared on coasts in the past three quarters of a century. Generations before understood building this close to the ocean would lead tp bad consequences.
"Look out, new CNN report that “climate change” is making hurricanes worse. "
Worse like cat 5 instead of cat 4? No. Those categories are based on wind speed which is not responsible for most of the damage inflicted by tropical storms. That would be rainfall and storm swell which to some extent are independent of the storm's categorization.
The low pressure and the wind are what cause the storm surge. The hurricane category is based on wind speed. Independent of other factors, higher wind speed equate to a larger storm surge.
I think with other tropical storms, not proper hurricanes, you can still get heavy damage from storm swell, more severe than hurricanes. Same with rain. Wind speed is what? Fallen trees and collapsed tents? Who gives a fuck.
The surge is from the low atmospheric pressure of the tropical cyclone (hurricane, depression or tropical) and the wind pushing the water with wind being the major component. Faster speed winds equates to greater surge.
https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/surge/
We design around FEMA’s 100-year base flood elevations (flood insurance maps) and have begun to incorporate IPCC/USACoE high increase sea level rise considerations when evaluating inundation. There are also considerations for storm surge based on the highest historical intensity hurricane for that area. One project I worked on had a CAT 2 hurricane surge of 11 feet and a CAT 1 surge of 4 feet.
As you said, wind certainly causes other damage to areas outside of the risk to inundation by surge. Downed trees on power lines the biggest concern though flying debris and blown off roofs also an issue. When we design structures we are required to evaluate wind and provide those calculations on our plans so the structural folks at the truss supplier knows what they need to provide to ensure the roof stays on in those high winds.
But a major hurricane just hit New York City! It never gets hit by hurricanes! Oh wait, it does, and this was a tropical storm.
We were told way back in 2005 that Rita and Katrina were just the beginning, and we would get more storms like that every year. Except we didn't. And when we do get a big hurricane, it proves they were right all along!

We ready to talk about inflated death tolls yet, or nah
Despite all the earnest sorting by householders, only about 9 percent of plastics is actually recycled, while 16 percent is incinerated. The remaining 75 percent is landfilled, accounting for 12.2 percent of municipal solid waste
There's a subtext here that makes this whole thing worse: The 16 percent that is incinerated and the 75% that get landfilled got put into a magical blue bin, carted away by a very large diesel truck that drove away with it, then found its way into a sorting facility, and so on and so on. All of that cost money, used energy and spewed CO2 into the air. When it could have just been thrown into your trash and landfilled, saving a lot of time, money and energy.
Stop recycling your plastics. Throw them in your trash.
"When it could have just been thrown into your trash and landfilled, saving a lot of time, money and energy."
Just throw it into the street if saving time, money and energy is your priority.
Recycling: Saves time, money and energy, reduces pollution, and keeps our landfills from filling up.
Reality: Burn 16%, throw 75% in the landfill.
Mtrueman: Success! Recycle harder.
Better to re-use and reduce when possible.
I mean the cost savings from that is why we sell our recycling to China where they ultimately dump it in a land fill. Lol.
I believe recycling works OK with aluminum and a few other items like that but otherwise it seems that it's more trouble than it's worth. And, despite being eminently recyclable, avoid products packaged in aluminum anyway, as it's insanely energy intensive to produce and manufacture.
Re-use and reduce should be your watchwords.
FYI, that's why I'm paid to recycle aluminum. I have said repeatedly, and stand by it... if recycling were working, they'd be paying me to take it, not the other way around.
Re-using and reducing works best.
Part of the appeal of the PDK plastics is that they can be recycled even if they are in a mixture of other types of plastics.
Just add acid, filter out the other crap, and voila, you have the components back to make more PDK plastic.
I know this is totally unrelated, but I was reading this:
And got to thinking about MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) which is used to dissolve certain kind of plastics and has been around for decades-- but had been banned for a while due to environmental and health concerns. It's all a bit muddy and I'm not even 100% sure of what MEK's legal status is.
Anyhoo, I googled MEK and this is what google presented me as the first hit:
Peoples Mujahadin of Iran.
I went to DuckDuckGo, I googled MEK, and this was my first hit:
I'm starting to keep track of where Google either fails or seems to direct you to something less obvious and where DuckDuckGo simply gives you exactly what you asked for.
"Anyhoo, I googled MEK and this is what google presented me as the first hit:"
As I remember, google's first hit would be an ad, in this case perhaps enticing people to join the MEK cult.
MEK is not a unique acronym that stands only for "methyl ethyl ketone".
I understand, but it's not the point.
You know, I'm guessing that whatever this innovation in plastic is is great, but plastics are a very complex subjects. Plastics are not plastics. There are hundreds of different types of plastics that are used for different and specific purposes and any one plastic may be highly suitable for one task, but very undesirable or unsuitable for another. Then I read stuff like this:
I'll be curious to know how far out this plastic is before we start seeing it on the market, and how widely adopted for various tasks it will be.
Meh, got interrupted, was going to make a comment about the Israeli company UBQ making the recyclable plastics. That sounds like a complex process with highly limited use and possibly more energy intensive than just throwing the stuff away.
You are right, plastics get their various properties by being blended together with other materials. But one of the exciting properties of PDK is that it can be reclaimed even in the presence of other polymers. So if I have a hypothetical blend of PDK and, say, PVC, then I can add acid and reclaim the PDK starting materials and filter away the PVC. No the PVC isn't recycled, so PDK is not a magic bullet, but it is a promising step forward towards plastics that are overall more recyclable.
https://www.sciencenews.org/article/medieval-grave-finland-warrior-nonbinary-person-gender
Discovered in 1968 at a site known as Suontaka, the Finnish grave held a largely decomposed human skeleton. Only two leg-bone fragments were successfully excavated. The grave also included jewelry traditionally associated with women and two swords, including one with a bronze hilt, typically attributed to men. Items in the Suontaka grave date to the latter part of Finland’s early medieval period, between 1050 and 1300.
That genetic evidence, combined with the unusual mix of male- and female-related items in the grave, suggests that the grave held an individual who was nonbinary, Moilanen’s group says. Gender identity refers to a person’s concept of self as male, female, a blend of both or neither. It often, but not always, coincides with a person’s biological sex. Nonbinary individuals have gender identities that are not strictly male or female.
What in the actual fuck? A woman may not have acted like a stereotypical woman, so "science" concludes ze was nonbinary?
Transgenderism is misogyny in drag.
^
What in the actual fuck? A woman may not have acted like a stereotypical woman, so “science” concludes ze was nonbinary?
It is one possible conclusion.
Or she was a shield maiden, as popularized on the History Channel hit series "Vikings". Scandinavian women can be big and strong, and still bear you a mess of kids.
And BTW, the Shield Maiden concept in the show Vikings took a very remote and unproven theory and ran with it across the finish line. There is some evidence of such a thing in Viking culture, but archaeologists and other scientists just don't have enough conclusive evidence to say that the scant evidence they have found is meaningful. It was definitely cool for the show-- and I enjoyed it. But the "science is far from settled" on the subject of whether women were fighting alongside the Viking men.
I thought you were going to say the medieval warriors had plastic armor.
It's a telegraph article, but not going to subscribe. So reprint gets linked.
https://www.paktravelnews.com/22-08-2021-police-pin-hopes-on-rainbow-cars-to-drive-out-hate-crime.html
Police are replacing patrol cars with “hate crime cars” to encourage people to report incidents such as social media comments.
Deputy Chief Constable Julie Cooke said that the cars painted with the police insignia and rainbow designs are now “part of our vehicle fleet” and will be driven daily by officers on patrol.
Hmm, this seems concerning:
"The number of hate crimes reported to police have more than doubled in recent years, with allegations of transgender hate crime seeing the sharpest rise.
However, cash-strapped forces across the country have faced criticism for focusing on the allegations, a large number of which stem from social media comments.
Even where a crime has not been committed, police record the allegation as a “hate incident”, which could show up on a person’s criminal record checks."

From a friend within the Virginia authorities:
800 Afghans were just quietly flown into Dulles International.
Officers escorting them were ordered:
“Once the foreign nationals hit the public concourse, do not stop them from leaving if they decide to separate from the group.”
The good news, if you want to see it, is that the far left and neo marxists are losing power rapidly. Pelosi has a rebellion amongst democrats in the house, the Senate will never support anything Biden does again after this latest fiasco, and the administration is compromised. I expected this next year, so I'm happy it's earlier. But they are done getting what they want, there's no consensus, the president and the VP are worthless and ineffective. Of course there's still the real power in the military, IC, DoJ, and other swamp rats. Someday though. We can finally end the warfare and welfare machine that is crushing us.
By then the baseline budget will be 8 or 9 trillion dollars though.

O/T: Well well, looks like we are about to get effective nationalization of prescription drug prices.
https://www.politico.com/news/2021/08/22/white-house-dems-drug-price-plan-506498
This actually makes sense. As long as fedgov is such a big buyer of drugs, why shouldn't they negotiate for better deals?
Because they are not "negotiating better deals", they are "negotiating handouts to drug companies". The end result will be that consumers will be forced to overpay for some drugs (where government prices are too high), while others will simply disappear from the market (where government prices are too low).
Proof that markets are inefficient!
Trump agrees with you.
That makes no sense. If the complaint about existing plastics is that they are not biodegradable, then they don't generate greenhouse gas emissions but rather sequester carbon.
No, the idea is, the PDK material is more recyclable so that products can be made from recycled PDK rather than from virgin sources, saving on CO2 emissions.
And, again, where are those savings in CO2 emissions supposed to come from? Think this through.
By not using virgin materials to construct the same product.
And how exactly do you think "using virgin materials" produces more CO2 than recycling PDK?
The synthesis of monomeres like styrene or bisphenol-A from natural oil and gas doesn't produce any CO2.

Good point.
Encouraging.
O/T: The FDA is scheduled to give full approval to the Pfizer vaccine on Monday.
https://archive.is/kf7i0
Will this change anything? No. The usual suspects, even though they complain that the vaccine is 'experimental' and only has 'emergency authorization', will instead say that the vaccine approval process was "rushed for political reasons" and they will still refuse to get vaccinated. Because their refusal to get vaccinated had nothing to do really with the formal approval process from the FDA.
Please cite the usual suspects instead of your strawman.
Bonus. Link to the long term studies of these drugs especially in children. Then read up on the history of FDA approved drugs that have been removed later. Thanks.
And what they do with their bodies is none of your business.
That depends on the body and the business. An acquaintance of mine, an elderly gentlemen from Osaka, had his entire body intricately tattooed by a highly esteemed and even older 入れ墨sensei. He received a handsome payment from a creepo hobbyist/collector who was to have the cadaver of the man skinned and put on display in a room in his house made over for the purpose.
A reverse mortgage for one’s skin.
So that "acquaintance" (fictional or real) got to decide what to do with his body, even though you consider his choice "creepy".
Hence, "what they do with their bodies is none of your business".
"even though you consider his choice “creepy”.
I consider the practice of skinning people and displaying their hides creepy.
So do I! But it's still none of your business if he chooses to do that with his body. QED
It's the creepo's business. His business is the body of another. Not mine. I never claimed that it my business. I am pointing out that what the tattooed acquaintance does with his body is the business of the hide collector. That's what I was referring to when I initially wrote 'that depends on the body and the business.'
So, let's consider a story.
Suppose I have a fire on my property. No problem, right? And then, due to no fault of my own, the fire spreads from my property to your property, damaging it. I think everyone here would agree that I would be responsible, at least to some degree, for the damage to your property. No?
Now, replace the word "fire" with "virus". How does the analysis change, and why?
Your beliefs don’t magically become something other than totalitarian collectivism just because you come up with an analogy that you think justifies totalitarian collectivism.
Nope, that's not how it works. Your neighbor might be a private home or it might be state or federal land. It's your responsibility to ensure that your home is surrounded by fire breaks and built to code appropriate for where you live.
Likewise, if you don't get the COVID vaccine and you catch COVID and get seriously ill from it, that's your responsibility, not the fault of the person infecting your.
Did that clear things up for you?
So the person causing the harm is not responsible, it's the victim's fault for not putting up enough defenses to the potential for harm?
It's the victim's fault for not getting out of the way of the attacker's fist fast enough?
If that is what you really think, then you need to rethink the whole NAP.
The NAP is about not deliberately hurting other people.
If someone sets fire to your house (arson), that's a violation of the NAP.
If someone's house burns down and your house catches fire as a result, that's not a violation of the NAP.
You are responsible to protect your home from flying embers and spreading fire from neighboring lots.
The Pfizer vaccine is a completely new vaccine platform with no previous applications in humans or animals; both the modified mRNA and the adjuvant have been in widespread use for less than a year. We have no idea what the long term side-effects are. We have no idea what the side effects of repeated booster vaccinations are. We have no idea whether using this vaccine will interfere with the administration of other vaccines or future, improved mRNA platforms.
An FDA approval is a necessary but not sufficient condition to trust the vaccine. So, it has "something" to do with vaccine acceptance, but it isn't the whole story.
If a rushed FDA approval is good enough for you, great! We need volunteers like you to try out new drugs. But let's be clear: your eagerness to force others into your footsteps isn't due to your concern for mankind, it's the result of cognitive dissonance, because deep down, you recognize that the risk and uncertainty of this new vaccine makes you just a tad uncomfortable yourself.
You are overstating the risks of the vaccine. We do have some idea about what the long-term effects are.
https://www.uab.edu/news/health/item/12143-three-things-to-know-about-the-long-term-side-effects-of-covid-vaccines
In every vaccine system ever devised, any significant effects show up within eight weeks or so after vaccination. Since we don't see mass numbers of people falling ill and dying from the vaccination itself, it seems reasonable to conclude that the long term risks are minimal.
Not only that, but it is not enough to consider the risk of the vaccine in isolation; one must weigh it relative to the risk of COVID itself. There are possible long-term effects from COVID as well.
The mRNA technology used to make the vaccine has been around for over 15 years so it is not this brand new untested thing. We know what it does. And if you don't want the mRNA vaccine, then get the J&J vaccine which is a more traditional type of vaccine.
As far as my motivation goes, I just want this pandemic to end. It will end when the virus goes away, at least to the extent that it isn't putting huge numbers of people in the hospital every day.
In every vaccine system ever devised, any significant effects show up within eight weeks or so after vaccination.
First, patently false. See The Cutter Incident, RotaShield, and Polio - SV40, the latter took over a decade to completely rundown/correct/recall. Second, we have seen significant effects, why do you hate children? Third, even if it were true for conventional vaccines this is, by wide reputation, not a conventional vaccine.
The mRNA technology used to make the vaccine has been around for over 15 years so it is not this brand new untested thing.
15 yrs. unused. Is that because it failed clinical trials due to adverse effects or because the relatively expensive and complicated storage conditions made it non-viable? Yes!
It will end when the virus goes away
The virus isn't going away. Even if you vaccinated every last human, there are large mammalian reservoirs. Moreover, in less than a year we have multiple variants. The idea that it will 'go away' is held fools stupider than any religion waiting for one of the various forms of Judgement Day. The fact that you say this as an off-handed defense of the above indicates that you don't really care about safety or efficacy, you just want other people to bend the knee. You want the pandemic to end? Muster up the "courage" to live your life the way your parents and grandparents did through all the other pandemics in human history. Otherwise, eat a bullet and avoid all future pandemics.
I'm neither overstating nor understating the risks of the vaccine, I'm stating that we don't know the risks of the vaccine and have no good basis for evaluating them.
Simply false.
We don't know what the long-term effect of injecting modified mRNAs with novel adjuvants is. It could cause autoimmune diseases, it could increase susceptibility to other viruses or other diseases, it could lead to degenerative diseases, etc.
There has been no successful, approved adenovirus-based vaccine so far. The adenovirus-based HIV vaccine not only failed to reduce viral load, it actually increased the risk of HIV infection in those vaccinated.
Look, I think the COVID vaccines are a reasonable choice for people at high risk for COVID complications. But to say that we "know" that they are safe and effective is ludicrous at this point. It will take 5-10 years before we can be reasonably certain.
You're a gullible fool then. COVID will never go away. It will simply join the thousands of respiratory viral diseases that humans are exposed to and die from every year. Welcome to the real world; try to live in it.

really good thanks for your free ios apps
Items made of PDK can be bathed in acid that separates the plastic molecules from any additives; this material can then be reassembled into different shapes, textures, and colors again and again without loss of performance or quality.
"We solved our plastic contamination problem with a contaminated acid bath problem."
Plastics are a primary way to trap carbon. The more plastics you produce, the more carbon you trap. Recycling decreases the amount of trapped carbon.
Also, I'd be interested to see the 'one ton saves 11.7 tons of carbon' analysis. I bet it's like the lab-grown meat analyses where gasoline spent collecting conventional plastic for recycling gets counted against it but all the gasoline spent trucking around and decontaminating/disposing of acid baths doesn't.
This assumes landfills are bad. But bad compared to what?
A comparative pollution study of landfills and recycling would be very interesting.
Landfills produce emissions, sometimes used as fuel, sometimes not.
Landfills can pollute groundwater, although in general this is well-controlled.
Both require transportation, but recycling uses a lot more transportation, often overseas.
Rinsing recyclables pollutes water.
Recycling adds processing centers and factories, which pollute air and water and produce waste, especially factories that start with contaminated feedstock.
Mr. Bailey, I await your insight on this.
Plastic's don't "get more brittle as they get recycled". Let's call it as it is. Plastics rot over time, especially when exposed to sunlight. This is why hard hats and car seats have expiration dates. It's not "cheaper" to make materials out of new plastic. It's POSSIBLE to make materials out of new plastic.
Only a small subset of situations can use recycled plastic. Clearing it from dyes is one part of the problem, and not the most important part. The 9 recycling categories only tells you the general chemical formula (and number 9 is "other"). Each category has hundreds or thousands of individual products.
When making a product, you need your material to not only be the right type, but the right melting point, the right melted viscosity, the right strength and flexibility, and even the stickiness needs to be right for some applications. When you use recycled material, you can control precisely none of these parameters.
When you put plastic in a landfill, you are essentially returning it to it's place of origin...underground. We have bigger problems to solve.
This Article was worth reading! thanks a ton for sharing 🙂
