COVID Variants Upend Our Reopening
Plus: the Hawaii Innocence Project gets results, a new federal eviction moratorium, and more...

Are the bad old days of the pandemic returning? There have been at least two coronavirus pandemic movies made, both thrillers, each based on the premise that COVID-19 mutations have ushered in successive waves of extended—and increasingly drastic and authoritarian—protective measures. Alas, this frightful scenario is starting to go from a convenient plot device to a too-close-for-comfort possibility.
At present, the delta variant is being cited as a reason to bring back mask mandates and other restrictions, to mandate vaccines for certain employees, to require proof of vaccine status, to continue Trump-era immigration policies, to extend eviction moratoriums, and to justify other invasive government measures.
It's also changing the way some people react in their personal lives. As the number of breakthrough cases—vaccinated people who are infected—rises, it's bringing back the need for some to think twice about large indoor gatherings, travel plans, and going mask-free everywhere.
It's totally reasonable for vaccinated people not to renew precautionary steps, trusting that even if they're infected, the resulting coronavirus case will be mild. But I'm currently in a higher risk category myself (nearly 30 weeks pregnant) and also in close contact with a number of higher-risk people. All of us have been vaccinated. After recently spending time around several folks (including Reason's Robby Soave) who are vaccinated but caught COVID-19 nonetheless, I'm suddenly rethinking my "the pandemic is over!" attitude.
For me and my husband, the summer so far has been filled with airplane travel, indoor dining, being in big crowds, meeting up with long-lost friends and new acquaintances, and acting as if life had returned to normal. We ate at the bar of the most crowded Mediterranean restaurant while passing through New York City. We went to a big conference, where we congregated indoors, shook hands with strangers, and ate from buffets. We put most of our masks away in a box in the closet.
Now, we're trying to figure out which of these activities might be a mistake to continue.
In some places, U.S. stores are once again facing shortages of some products and, in China, people are panic-buying again. Hospitals are once again overcrowding. People are wondering whether schools will actually reopen in a few weeks.
This is all due to one wily variant, delta. Now, we're hearing that another variant, lambda, may also prove more transmissible and able to overpower existing vaccines. "The Lambda variant of the coronavirus, first identified in Peru and now spreading in South America, is highly infectious and more resistant to vaccines than the original version of the virus the emerged from Wuhan, China," Reuters reports.
There's also a delta-plus variant on its way (the plus refers to an extra protein, and not its severity). According to The Washington Post:
Yes, these are worrying from a public and personal health perspective. But I also shudder to think what new emergency orders, massive spending plans, intrusive executive orders, and other government-induced calamities they may bring.
The idea that the worst of pandemic politics, COVID-19 culture wars, and overreaching public health initiatives are behind us now also seems remarkably quaint.

The Hawaii Innocence Project has helped free a Hawaii homeless man wrongfully locked up in a mental hospital for two years. Joshua Spriestersbach was arrested in 2017 after sleeping on a Honalulu sidewalk. Awoken by a cop, "Spriestersbach thought he was being arrested for the city's ban on sitting or laying down on public sidewalks," Sky News reports. However,
the officer had mistaken him for a man named Thomas Castleberry, who had a warrant out for his arrest for violating probation in a 2006 drug case.
Mr Spriestersbach somehow ended up with Mr Castleberry as his alias, even though he never claimed to be Mr Castleberry or met him, according to the Hawaii Innocence Project.
Lawyers for Mr Spriestersbach have said it all could have been cleared up if police had simply compared the two men's photographs and fingerprints.
Instead, despite Mr Spriestersbach's protests that he wasn't Mr Castleberry, he was committed to the Hawaii State Hospital (HSH).

New eviction moratorium issued. The new federal moratorium on evicting tenants who don't pay rent applies to high transmission areas and will be in effect through early October, per a new order from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "A source familiar with the effort said the announcement would cover 80% of US counties and 90% of the US population," reports CNN.

COVID Variants Upend Our Reopening
Bureaucratic dictates are hardly variant.
Bureaucracies can be awful, but what's your alternative? Nepotism? Patronage?
Slit your wrists
Lol.
Because the only alternatives to overweening bureaucracy is nepotism and patronage?
You realize you're on a libertarian site, right?

I note that "limited federal government" was not among your choices.
I love limited federal government! But a limited federal government can (or rather has to) choose between bureaucracy, nepotism and patronage.
No, grasshopper, it does not.
Queen is working backwards from mission creep and totalitarianism.
Yes, lil' cricket, it does.
No you fucking slaver, it does not.
Piss off you goddamn soulless bitch.
Two sentences! Way to go Bukcleup!
Are you trying to distract from the fact that you're a soulless bitch, Mike?
No you steaming pile of lefty shit, it does not.
Urrr! Yoou're SOOOO angry!
But he's absolutely right, you know.
Removing civil service protections to not protect open activists in government seems to be missing from your list.
Someone doesn't understand civil service protections...
I actually do. You seem to favor them despite how incompetent a government worker is. There were cases in the last administration where emotes active in antifa were using government databases to dox people. They were not fired due to civil service protections. Their access to databases.
All these protections do currently is ensure the 90% of democrats in government remain in government despite who wins the election.
The spoilage system was already won. Now the protections merely protect that win.
But you're ignorant and applaud autocratic rule.
Employees, not emotes.
Actually I think I like "emotes" better. That's what most of those fuckwits do, they just emote. No thinking involved.
So you're against civil service protections? Very Libertarian! Hire nephews and campaign workers instead!
Are you incapable of reading? Honest question.
Civil Service protections should be extremely minimal based on the power the government has. These people are not voted out and there is no other way to reject their abuses of a powerful centralized state.
You defending a system where people can't be fired for blatant abuses is the literal extension of authoritarianism.
You can stop lying about being a fan of liberty at any time now WK.
I think professionalism is better than nepotism and patronage, yes.
Pretty sure it’s Tony.
Same level of sophistry, blaming TDS, and general non acceptance of facts as WK. Tony doesn't really go around calling people trumpistas. That has been mostly chipper, SPB, and WK.
It's definitely White Mike, he pulls out the QA sockpuppet whenever he's feeling cunty and wants to do some trolling.
Most lefty shits don't understand much at all.
Rarr, Sevo Mad!
Maybe. But he’s absolutely right, you know.
Also you once again removed reducing government from your list.
Among an infinite number of other options, how about apathy? A federal government as apathetic as the average person would be a great improvement.
Apathetic bureaucrats, patronage hires or nepotism hires?
Fuck off and die. Soon and painfully.
The level of thought from Trumpistas!
Still deeper than CRT and woke.
I'll take nepotism and patronage. They can always be dismissed when the next batch of hoodlums get voted in.
Your fallacy is: false choice.
Over/under on Queen being a sock for a reason staffer?
Her posts seem shockingly familiar…
It's White Knight/Mike Laursen. If they're a Reason staffers socks, then my guess is ENB or Boehm.
The Constitution explicitly forbids titles and positions of royalty, so I guess that leaves you out.
Patronage. Have SOMEBODY be responsible.
At least this guy is willing to embrace his full Tammany Hall.
It already is dummy. See The Resistance openly defying the election for 4 years.
Don't believe everything you read online, dummy.
I’d bet $20 that Jesse doesn’t believe anything you post.
That's really your reply WK? You actually are denying there was open resistance under Trump's administration? Despite the leaks, despite the opeds, despite the open marches of government workers, despite the interviews of them saying they ignored valid orders?
You're dumber than most leftists WK.
That happens under lots of administrations.
And even if it did moreso, that could just mean the administration didn't respect professional norms.
Odd such things are not occurring when Biden is pursuing blatantly illegal things.
They did remove the one FTC worker that didn’t agree with their anti-trust case. i.e., they removed him for doing his job. But his analysis did not agree with the party directive.
They also purged military members for "Wrongthink" and all.
Actually, organized revolutions are either National socialism or communism. That’s science. Look it up.
I’m sure you can point to the federal bureaucracy protesting and defying orders under Obama.
Your false both sidesism is extremely laughable.
Not like it did under POTUS Trump = That happens under lots of administrations.
How about freedom of association freedom of movement they do not require bureaucracies or nepotism or patronage
Bureaucracies can be awful, but what’s your alternative? Nepotism? Patronage?
Not listening to them in the first place.
Nepotism and Patronage are caused by bureaucracies. Just look at any deep blue metropolis - if you have family or friends working there, you too will have a job for life.
Queen is just woefully ignorant of who actually set up shops like Tammany Hall and who currently runs the alphabet soup agencies.
Less bureaucracy? Yes, any government will necessarily have some bureaucracy. But when bureaucrats are making policy that has the force of law, you have a big problem.
A Constitutionally Limited Republic that respects individual private property rights. I know, it's a tough sell. Some dudes tried to get one started a couple hundred years ago or so, but it failed.
Right. The virus isn't upending anything, the government is.

Almost like it's a convenient tool for authoritarians.
Why would 'authoritarians' want to...make people temporarily wear masks and show they had vaccines (something lots of people have to do)?
Because they're auhthoritarians?
Really? Just for shits and giggles? And the shits and giggles come from those minor inconveniences?
I would have thought there were more ambitious authoritarians...
1) Because it allows them to say they did something.
2) Because it allows them to divide the nation. Do you know what a wedge issue is? It is an issue so volatile that by hammering on it you can continue to keep the populace from uniting against you.
3) It allows you to set a precedent that in the name of public health you can force people to stick needles in their bodies and carry around papers proving that they did so. If you don't see that as an authoritarian's wet dream, then ask yourself what would happen if the government made you carry around proof of clean drug tests every quarter.
Not really worth attempting to educate willfully-ignorant piles of lefty shit.
1. All politicians do that.
2. All politicians do that.
3. This all seems relevant during a worldwide pandemic.
"All politicians do that".
You are absolutely the worst debater among the lefties. I note that you have now changed the subject, and take that as realizing how foolish you look.
"This all seems relevant during a worldwide pandemic."
Again you are changing the subject from "why would authoritarians do that" to "Oh I am ok with the authoritarians doing that." But in any case, we are not in a pandemic. We are in an epidemic. And you know what else is an epidemic according to authoritarians? Drug use. And Gun control. And Alcohol use. And Terrorism. And anything else that the government feels is a problem. So don't be surprised when the reasoning they use to force you to stick chemicals in your body for someone else's protection is used to take even more autonomy from you.
So, you don't think all politicians in an emergency want to say they 'did something?'
"we are not in a pandemic"
We are in an officialy declared pandemic.
"And you know what else is an epidemic according to authoritarians?"
Jesus. My ninth grade teacher taught me the difference between metaphor and reality, I wish your's had.
Jesus. My ninth grade teacher taught me the difference between metaphor and reality, I wish your’s had.
Except your side does consider those things to be epidemics, and demands public policies to be made based on those considerations. When you say that it's just metaphor, you're lying.
You spent an entire year bitching that Trump didn’t do anything! and now you’re going to pretend that all politicians do that?
Hahahahahahahaha
"My ninth grade teacher taught me the difference between metaphor and reality, I wish your’s had."
And yet, it is your lefties who don't understand what the "metaphor" is, then. After all, the Right didn't insist that the CDC investigate the "epidemics" of alcohol abuse and gun violence. The right did. So whether or not it is a metaphor, the authoritarians you are hell bent on defending don't seem to see the difference.
"The right did."
D'OH - of course, I mean the Left did.
Statists love to lie. And when that doesn't work they deflect and redirect.
Because you lack inherent value and meaning in your own life, thus resentfully lash out at people who display independent thought, and you enjoy the vicarious thrill of your collective bullying others into compliance via State force.
+1
The '+1' to this tribute to independent thought is the chef's kiss!
Because two people cannot independently agree on the same thing?
Temporarily?
You don't have to where the mask in private.
You don’t have to where (sic) the mask
in private.FTFY
Or if you attend the DC mayor’s birthday gala.
Queens gotta queen.
Read up on the Nazis, red guard, or bolsheviks. Once educated come back and discuss.
You might want to read up, they did, well, kind of exponentially worse stuff...
Proof you are a know nothing. In each case they started with minimal changes in governance often on the form of protections and safety of the populace. Again. Educate yourself then come back.
"In each case they started with minimal changes in governance often on the form of protections and safety of the populace"
So they were modern Republicans?
Your argument is at such an absurd level of generality it lends itself to such mocking.
LOL.
First you finally admit you know nothing about which you speak. And when it is pointed out you yell "but republicans!" in response.
Is that you white mike?
I asked you to read up on the past so I could actually get into specifics. It is clear you have no idea how any of those authoritarian regimes started. So why bother discussing things you will not understand if I repeat them you'll just yell "yes the republicans!" like a useful idiot of the left?
You made a dumb point about how every bad movement starts with small steps. But, hey, every ok movement does too! d'oh.
You're just showing yourself to be an idiot, you know that right?
No, just the ones you support.
I'll give you one specific example.
The Reg Guard of China went after landlords and land owners as one of their primary tasks. They then followed up with attacks against businesses who put profit as their primary motivation. This was followed up by laws that required business to enact certain social actions on their business making decisions in the operations of their business.
These ideas are currently present almost exclusively to the left. With the creation of social responsible mutual funds, working with government on censorship lists, etc. This is almost exclusively of the left at the moment. It is a leftist goal that was enacted early under Maoist china an currently being pushed by the left and "libertarian socialists" that are really just leftists. There are currently calls for nationalization of some of these industries on the left.
The most you can point to on the right is asking for SV companies to become common carriers or lose extra legal protections if they don't extend free speech protections. Not even close to the same, but know you will try to claim so.
You're basically ignorant to world history. That's why I told you to educate yourself.
JesseAZ...I shun ESG mutual funds like the plague (or maybe covid-19 is more apt). I had not considered the origin of the idea of ESG mutual funds before. That was an interesting point. Thanks for that.
Slit your wrists
Lol.
That’s all the response you usually deserve.
You're asking why "authoritarians" would want to...exercise power over their subjects? This has to be a parody.
Paid shill and sophist troll is my guess. There are a few, and they can't argue well.
make people temporarily wear masks
"Temporarily," LOL.
and show they had vaccines (something lots of people have to do)?
Since when? The only time a vaccination record was even considered relevant for daily life has been for schoolchildren and the military.
I suspect they’re making the case for more mail-in-only elections, so they can undermine democracy.
This election will need Super Fortification.
Control. Every policy like this is another means to control and monitor people and what they do. Government does not readily give back powers it takes on in "emergencies". Many dictatorships start with states of emergency that never end.
Most rapists aren't in it for sexual gratification, they're in it for control over other people.
Sounds like something you should seriously ask yourself.
Don't worry, as soon as the Delta Variant runs out of steam they'll come up with a new reason to continue all the same shit. They figure all they need at the moment is to make it to the mid-terms, after the Dems win bigly next year with 140% of the vote they'll be able to simply legislate all the wholesale changes to the Constitution they please.
SCOTUS: "That's unconstitutional, but whatevs"
They would have a stronger case for restoring the mask mandate if the data from last year had showed the mask mandates worked, at all. California had mask mandates the whole time and pretty much had the same seasonal case rate and hospitalization rate curves as everywhere else with a similar climate.
The vaccines have proven effective, but I can understand why some are reluctant to take an experimental vaccine on an emergency use authorization, if they are young and healthy and at little risk from COVID to begin with. I only took the shot since I may need it for international business travel (if that ever comes back), and so I can visit elderly family members.
After recently spending time around several folks (including Reason's Robby Soave) who are vaccinated but caught COVID-19 nonetheless, I'm suddenly rethinking my "the pandemic is over!" attitude.
I too am hoping we can get back to the good old days of zero communicable diseases.
Could some communicable diseases be more serious than others?
They can certainly be hyped as such by self-serving and low-credibility sources.
They can't *actually* be though?
Certainly. But why are you trusting for data and analysis the people you are trusting? Have they earned that over the past year and a half?
Even if they are off by half, which would be quite something (we're talking *worldwide* here), it would still be substantial.
The recent 'surge' in the bay area has 11.8/100,000 people infected.
Multiply by what ever number satisfies your ignorance and fuck off.
It it either good data or bad data. Bad data is ignored. Why not just guess?
So you'd rather give up your liberty to save less than 1% of the global population who were largely sick with multiple comorbidities.
Yeah, you're not for liberty then.
one study said 80% of the people who died had already lived past the estimated life expectancy and would most likely have died within a year or less. I've know people praying for death in their old age and/or sickness
That was my grandfather who decided to stop getting his lungs drained every other month and decided it wasn't worth continuing the outpatient surgery/recovery.
They predicted upwards of 4 million, they settled at a worst estimate of 600k. It is far more than half. You are terrible at argumentation WK.
Do you trust that they would give you all the information needed for you to make informed consent about getting or eschewing any of the vaccines?
Out of curiosity, if given the power, do you feel confident making blanket medical decisions for 330 million individuals?
The Queen can't wait for them to start serving the Kool-Aid.
Definitely!
Which is why this particular disease is not seeing people flocking to get the vaccine.
Turns out when you have something that is extremely contagious (say measles, which has a very high R value and also commonly has bad sequelae in children) or something that is extremely deadly (smallpox) or something that has frequent terrifying outcomes (polio) you dont have to force a vaccine on people for the most part, they make the decision themselves because the risk benefit profile logically leads that direction.
COVID is often asymptomatic or a bad cold, and for many like the flu. This is something people are used to and experience every year. The death rate is <1% overall, and even lower if you arent an obese sick person.
So ya, some diseases are worse than others, and in those cases you dont have to force anything because people in general fear the disease. COVID just happens to not be one of those diseases. Sorry that the govt and media has you so indoctrinated that you thought this was the black plague, because its not.
"Sorry that the govt and media has you so indoctrinated that you thought this was the black plague, because its not."
Lol, every accusation is a confession.
Sorry that there wasn't anything you could object to on substance so you had to go with the "projection/rubber glue" ad hominem.
It's ok, no one expected you to be able to keep up.
Speaking of 'keep up,' maybe keep up that the anti-vaccine people are likely indoctrinated by anti-vacccine media folks.
You don't know this.
In fact the people not getting vaccinated are the poor. That means strongly democrat-favoring minorities like Hispanics and African Americans. But I note once again that when someone brings up a counterpoint to your vague, poorly thought out objections, you just change the subject again.
You think you are being clever, when in fact everyone sees your constant goalpost shifting and fallacious reasoning for what it is: a fool squirming, squirming, squirming like a worm caught on the sidewalk in a hot day.
But please, keep reaching. It is making my morning.
" But I note once again that when someone brings up a counterpoint to your vague, poorly thought out objections, you just change the subject again."
I think that's why it is assumed to be Tony. It's his classic, no substance, cant make a counter argument, so make a non-sequitur, move goal posts. Also, BUT TRUMP! is a nice fallback.
Tony has a very different style though. There are tons of people like that out there.
Or not:
https://www.wsj.com/articles/misinformation-covid-vaccine-hesitancy-polling-demographics-polarization-partisanship-11627914431
600k+ Americans dead I guess is just no big deal then huh?
Face it- you're a fucking idiot if you don't get the vax. You might be alright but with the vax you will be guaranteed to be fine (at least as much as we can guarantee). If you're still refusing then you're just an idiot, full stop.
Which quite frankly, I really wouldn't give a shit if we could vax kids and then throw antivax idiots out of the ICU if it gets too full. If you don't care enough about yourself to get the vax then no one should give a shit about you either.
This was better in the original German. Viel danks.
3 Million people die every year. Stop living in fear. Last year's excess death count was just over 200k compared to the year before. Hmm....
and a lot of that was from people avoiding medical treatment for serious conditions, out of fear of contracting COVID if they went to the hospital
"Which quite frankly, I really wouldn’t give a shit if we could vax kids and then throw antivax idiots out of the ICU if it gets too full. If you don’t care enough about yourself to get the vax then no one should give a shit about you either."
What a surprise, socialist lefty POS ends up on the side of "let em fuckin die if they dont do what the govt says". No surprise your ilk end up siding with communists.
There are tons of things people do every day, and conditions they walk around with, untreated, that they choose to not get treatment for, that have a significantly higher risk than COVID. Unfortunately, you statist fucks cant get it through your head that you could potentially let people be free to make their own decisions AND also try and help them if it doesn't work out for them. If we followed your lead, millions would die of smoking, alcohol, obesity, and many other things.
You know how many young black people, with insurance, that we see who go on early dialysis because they had early hypertension and wouldn't take the time / follow up / effort to take a daily generic dirt cheap BP medicine? I guess fuck em right? Dialysis is expensive as hell, why should we pay to keep them alive, they could have prevented it with a daily pill. Why should we help them now?
Good thing you didn't go into medicine. That 600k would be nothing compared to the deaths you are asking for.
Not insurance, medicaid.
Medicaid pays tens of billions every years for dialysis
My point is these unfortunate cases are ones where the person had insurance, a family practitioner, the funds/insurance to have access to BP treatment. They chose to ignore, and continually would show up with very high BP. Then ended up on dialysis
JimboJr....I am not sure there is a good way to enforce direct accountability for (in)actions over the years, contrary to medical advice. Your example of cheap, generic BP treatment was a very good one. Type 2 diabetes is another I would add. The problem is, you can't 'not treat' them when they come in years later with severe medical issues (like dialysis). By then, they've likely blown through whatever savings they had.
But you made a hell of a good point about how your bad choices can cost a bunch later. That is so true. I see this literally every day.
Im just saying that I am not at the point of "you fucked yourself, so see ya later". I get irritated, but if I can do something about it I do.
I dont feel that if someone is dying in front of me, I am going to withhold care because they caused it. Im going to help.
The liberals on here have recently revealed themselves to be the sociopathic fucks we knew they were.
Why do people act as though the vaccines come with zero risk? Do they believe that or do they not want people to assess for themselves cost/benefit with regard to personal health decisions? Has it dawned on you that pro-vaxxers and anti-vaxxers are making the same argument at each other as to their respective choice of poison?
I like the world having a mix of pro- and anti-. That’s diversity, and it increases the survival chances of the human race, and it applies to all one-size-fits-all policies forced on mankind.
If the pro- people are right, then they will survive while the anti- people die. If the anti- people are right (and eventually, on a long enough time line, they have to be), then they will carry on the human race after the establishment believers kill themselves following fatal advice.
It’s a circle of life.
raspberry shitters doesn't seem to realize that they only started testing these experimental vaccines on small kids in March of this year.
Apply this logic to AIDS.
I like how you pretend that it’s a big deal to you when you would gleefully watch as the 80 million Trump voters were lined up and summarily executed.
Duck off, slaver.
Nope. Anything worth media and government attention must be the WORST THING EVER.
Could some communicable diseases be more serious than others for people in certain age groups or with certain health conditions?
Couldn't people in those groups take greater precautions, and not limit everyone's freedom to conduct business and travel and enjoy life?
Megalomania is a contagious condition spread by casual contact unless face with effective self-defense and resistance
It's like people saying we need to continue with the gang violence, police corruption and reduced freedom of Prohibition because if we ended Prohibition people would start drinking again. (when Prohibition never actually stopped them from drinking anyway.)
Some of us never closed. #libertarian
Some of us never obey stop signs. Who is the government to question our judgement about when to go or not? #libertarian
I don’t obey stop signs posted on one-way streets with no turn-ins. Did you get your booster this week? And are you masking?
"I don’t obey stop signs posted on one-way streets with no turn-ins. "
You, sir, are a champion of freedom. William Wallace got noting on ya.
You, sir, are a champion of totalitarianism. Fidel Castro got noting [sic] on ya.
I think Castro might have gone further than stop signs.
I think you want to as well.
Do you think that of everyone who thinks stop signs are a good idea?
JFC
Do you always make strawman arguments when you are called on your bullshit?
JFC
Yes he does.
Yes. And, in general, if one is honest. Though it likes to use false equivalency and false assertion to mix things up.
Ask queen if it slit its wrists yet.
Lol.
Boy, we got a real lefty asshole infection going on this morning.
Oh, there's an infection, but more of the Trumpista variety.
It's very telling that this is your retreat when your arguments are easily shut down by other posters here lol.
Yeah. The delta variant of TDS.
You know there are countries that have few, if any, traffic control systems, and many of them have a far lower rate of traffic accidents than the US.
#libertarian
Poes law.
So you're just joking about being an ignorant, authoritarian slaver?
Sorry. You're really convincing.
I'm thinking someone must be spoofing this sock of White Mike's, not even chemjeff or Buttplug would try to be this obvious.
I think you'll get far in life arguing that stop signs are indicative of authoritarian slavership.
Fuck off and die.
I don't get this, when I fucked your mom I felt more life affirming. But, she was really freaky, so there's that.
Huh, I didn't realize they let Chris Chan post from jail.
I mean no libertarian ever has come out against speed traps or pulling people over under guise of a traffic violation.
You're not a libertarian, you're a Trumpista.
Why are you hanging out here?
You're a steaming pile of lefty shit. Why are you here?
Your mom referred me. She said 'Holy God, that was the best, so much better than Sevo's father ever did...Speaking of Sevo, can you go to this libertarian website where he hangs out? He's not a libertarian, not by any means, he thinks Trump should be his daddy, he yearns for that. But I think it would be great for him to hear what you have to say. by the way, let's go again, I've stopped the bleeding!'
Please. Get help.
You're really exposing your $.50 payments. Where have I mentioned Trump. That seems to be your go to when exposed. You're obviously a sock.
Can you not have an intelligent retort?
You're really not good at this, are you?
Where have I mentioned payments?
Lol.
It is obvious you are here to basically distract from actual argument. $.50 center is a term that is essentially global at this point to talk about people whose sole goal it is is to push government views. Even Hong Kong resistance people use that term against the posters who do this.
But again, you'd have to be educated to understand this. And not an ill informed leftist.
So you are not supposed to disclose them? Understood.
Queen is fired up with terrible responses!
Driving around Mexico City is basically “don’t get in an accident.” And we somehow survived.
Ever seen the traffic in saigon? It’s a hoot.
Jakarta, too.
The traffic killed 98% of the residents in HMC and COVID took out the remainder.
Let me guess...you never exceed the speed limit ever, do you?
your a lousy Troll, most at least have some sense in their debate
Oh, don’t start ripping off Bill Maher now.
"Are the bad old days of the pandemic returning?"
Only if you are not a fear-mongering or fear-living advocate, a government bureaucrat, an authoritative socialist, a Democrat, or a Karen/nanny type.
There's also a delta-plus variant on its way (the plus refers to an extra protein, and not its severity).
That's the last straw. I'm trying to do Keto here!
"It's totally reasonable for vaccinated people not to renew precautionary steps, trusting that even if they're infected, the resulting coronavirus case will be mild. But I'm currently in a higher risk category myself (nearly 30 weeks pregnant) and also in close contact with a number of higher-risk people. All of us have been vaccinated. After recently spending time around several folks (including Reason's Robby Soave) who are vaccinated but caught COVID-19 nonetheless, I'm suddenly rethinking my "the pandemic is over!" attitude."
So stay home, seal your doors and windows with plastic sheeting and duct tape, and STFU.
So maybe get your baby whiney ass to a close by pharmacy and get a lil' shot? It doesn't hurt that much, you'll be ok.
You won't
I will.
No you won't, you fucking government whore.
I'll be fine, you needle averse baby.
Please fuck off and die.
This is the anti-vaccine mantra, true.
OK, just fuck off and die.
You know you're not tough, right? You're sad.
Ask him if he has been vaccinated.
J & J
One of the reasons why I respect him. He made a healthcare decision for himself based on his situation and he respects my choice to do the same.
Chubby wasn’t talking about you Queen, you self absorbed asshole.
It is well known that Sevo got the shot for himself based on his own decisions and risk factors. He just respects others enough to allow them to make the same choice.
You on the other hand, are an authoritarian mouthpiece.
If he is non obese and under 65 he will be too. But you peddle fear as a means to authority.
And you peddle fear as a means to very irrelevant authority.
Fuck off and die painfully and slowly.
You really can't stay on argument can you? So much emotions when your diatribes are easily refuted. White Mike, is that you?
That Jesse Az wrote his after Sevo's comment speaks volumes.
Sevo is consistent and admits who he is.
You lie about it.
So maybe learn to mind your own business and accept that all life involves risk, and that (spoiler alert) we will all die.
F*ck red lights, all live involves risk and we will all die!
Get fucked with a chainsaw.
What a freak. Your mom preferred dildos.
Get fucked with a running chainsaw.
I said no to your mom's dildo request, so certainly no chainsaws! I'm not your dad, dude.
Many of us are being asked to stop at no light. And that is the issue.
No, there's a light. This thing that has killed hundreds of thousands.
gGt fucked with a running, rusty chainsaw.
I’m not in a high risk category and I’m not contagious. To change my activities would be virtue signaling.
If I were sick I would not be going around infecting people including nursing homes in New York. Do you think Cuomo should face charges for his role in causing the deaths of thousands of New Yorkers? If so, what should he be charged with?
Then get it to protect others, vaccinated persons have a proven lower change of transmission.
I mean, is your fear of the shot (understandable, lots of kids I know are afraid of shots) greater than protecting those who can't get it you might come into contact with?
Protect who? People have had access to vaccines for months and can readily get one if they feel they need it.
Who around me can’t get a vaccine?
And you missed answering the Cuomo questions regarding COVID.
Anal Queen seems to stop responding if someone takes the time to make points instead of just insulting her like she deserves. She is probably some sorta Electra complex victim and only responds to negative attention.
I mean, is your fear of the shot (understandable, lots of kids I know are afraid of shots) greater than protecting those who can’t get it you might come into contact with?
No one is afraid of a shot, and no one has an obligation to protect you or anyone else.
This thing that has killed hundreds of thousands.
So what? 500K-600K die from heart disease every fucking year.
He's not the one whining about feeling "unsafe"
Maybe shut up and mind your own business. I owe you an injection of chemicals in my body like I owe you protection from a pack of wolves. You can thank me if I choose to do so, but I have no moral or ethical obligation to put myself at risk, or even expend effort to protect you. If you are so concerned about this virus, do what you can to protect yourself and then shut up. Your self-serving judgement makes you look petty, privileged and selfish.
Even Herbert Spencer thought 'liberty' should be restrained to stop disease spread.
Lefty shits are always appealing to authority.
Then this shows Herbert Spencer does not understand the principles of liberty. Just as your fallacious appeal to authority shows that you do not understand logic.
I often take my queues from sociologists instead of thinking for myself.
Always a reason to suspend "liberties", ain't there?
"Your self-serving judgement makes you look petty, privileged and selfish."
Yes, typical leftist.
Its example here is instructive and useful.
QA is the left, folks.
Act accordingly.
I have no moral or ethical obligation to put myself at risk, or even expend effort to protect you.
But if your actions cause the hospitals to fill up and hit capacity, you do expect others to expend effort (and even die themselves) to protect you in the event you made a horrible assessment of your risks.
Nah, these people are just contrarians to the hilt. Anybody even suggests to do something then they immediately refuse and go the exact opposite direction. Pretty much the definition of an idiot.
Basically they've taken "freedom" to mean that they MUST exercise absolutely every last shred of it, whether or not it's a good idea.
Heaven forbid anyone remembers that with freedom comes responsibility and that a shrewd person exercises it carefully. But hey, look who I'm talking about. These people wish they had a couple marbles rolling around upstairs.
Were you supposed to login to a sockpuppet account to reply to your original post?
You are full of shit. I have made a principled argument against vaccine mandates since Bailey suggested them 4 or 5 years ago.
https://reason.com/2014/03/25/should-vaccines-be-mandatory/#comment-4409334
Back then, they actually had a symposium where libertarians argued both sides of the issue. This was not about being contrarian, it was about looking at first principles and natural rights and coming to a basic conclusion that nobody owes you their body.
The funny thing is that this was pretty clear 5 years ago, and all it took was WuFlu to see "libertarians" abandoning "my body my choice" like a hot potato.
MY BODY MY CHOICE!!!...wait a second...
THIS IS BETWEEN A WOMAN AND HER DOCTOR!!!...no, not that either...
THE GOVERNMENT DOESN'T BELONG IN MY...wow, this is hard.
Maybe women need to carry around a “no abortion passport” to go the gym or eat in a restaurant.
What is it with Kirkland and Queen A and a lot of bernie types that they all have names after anime? I don't get the connection.
Basement dwellers.
Incels
Perpetual children.
Lol, given the gender gap in voting that's precious!
Stuff it up your ass.
Such eloquence!
Stuff your PANIC flag up your ass, steaming pile of lefty shit.
You're being too polite, Sevo.
Given the rates of non parenthood in leftists...
Kirkland's comes from basically yaoi, so you know he's either a Tony or a land whale.
Kirkland is from an anime? I didn't know that, and I identify as a weeb.
I thought he came from Costco.
It's from Hetalia. If you're not a fujo the character wouldn't be in your radar.
Washington Post Fact Checker Glenn Kessler tackles D.C Mayor Muriel Bowser's "poor spin about not following her own mask mandate."
Glenn Kessler is a legend. I still remember when he brutally fact-checked the Sinophobic far-right conspiracy theory that the #TrumpVirus leaked from a lab:
I fear @tedcruz missed the scientific animation in the video that shows how it is virtually impossible for this virus jump from the lab. Or the many interviews with actual scientists. We deal in facts, and viewers can judge for themselves.
Virtually. Impossible. For. This. Virus. [To.] Jump. From. The. Lab.

Is Glenn Kessler echospinner?
At least Biden is authoritarian in normal parameters right Reason?
Jonathan Turley
@JonathanTurley
Biden admitted that "the bulk" of the constitutional experts consulted said that extending the moratorium would be unconstitutional. Yet, he indicated that he would still like to pursue it due to a couple of scholars encouraging him.
...What was astonishing is that Biden acknowledged that it is still likely unconstitutional but that they could tie it up in courts to get the money out in the interim...
...That line would be at the start of filings in federal court to impose an injunction on the program. The President expressly acknowledged that they would seek a likely unconstitutional program hoping to get money out the door before the court killed the program.
Given the ideological makeup of law school faculties, it is chilling that most of the preferred advisers to the Biden Administration admitted that this would be likely unconstitutional. It is equally unsurprising that there are a couple dismissing such constitutional concerns.
...President Biden took an oath to uphold the Constitution, not to violate it when he can use the delay in any final order to get the money out the door. In so doing, he is admitting that he would be spending federal money without constitutional authority.
So what are the penalties?
Joseph Zeballos-Roig
@josephzeballos
The new 60-day CDC eviction moratorium carries steep criminal penalties for individual landlords who break the law:
- Potential $100k fine and 1 year in jail if eviction doesn't result in death
- Up to $250k fine and 1 year in jail if evicted person dies
https://cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/communication/Signed-CDC-Eviction-Order.pdf
I for one am so glad we elected a president who openly discussed unconstitutional actions on his campaign website with a focus on increased spending, regulations, and social laws. Truly the libertarian outcome we deserve. No more mean tweets! Celebrate.
IMPEACH!
Turley? Next, Zell Miller's opinion!
Youre paid $.50 too much. The trick is to then link to salon. Kos, or the atlantic and claim they are neutral.
Dismissing Turley outright just gives up your game too quickly.
Turley's a tool. You might as well have gone full Greenwald!
Again youre paid too much.
By the way, I find it odd that you've jumped on the anti Turley and anti Greenwald bandwagon despite them being loved by the left just 5 years ago. But since they didn't come down with TDS, they had to be excommunicated from "the elite" left's discussions. They have been admirably consistent since before and after the last administration.
Let me guess, you don't call yourself a lefty despite basically pushing every narrative of the left?
It's not odd at all.
The hivemind cannot tolerate thought
https://slate.com/culture/2021/07/conservative-book-publisher-interview-editor-eric-nelson.html
Ahh, so because he disagrees with you, he is a "tool". Got it.
You seem OK with the CDC making "law" and designating "penalties" for violating their "law".
Get lost, steaming pile of lefty shit.
…says rando on webernet.
You'd think ENB MIGHT have mentioned that whole issue. But, nope, not relevant to her "reporting"
LIBERTARIAN MOMENT~!
Minor concerns on her part. Minor concerns.
Can't admit Biden is openly acting in an unconstitutional manner when they couldn't get Trump explicitly on that action.
Of course, no Republicans even MENTIONING impeachment for Biden, you know, wholesale violating his oath of office.
Man the GOP is fucking useless. Trump was the last good thing that party produced. DeSantis would be wise to leave and make his own party.
Thank god he's not Trump, who routinely obeyed court orders even when they were clearly in opposition to the law as written.
Biden is horrible, but at least it’s within normal parameters.
It's a bit surreal, Biden admin. defies SCOTUS and crickets from almost everyone... but muh orange Hitler!!
We are so f'd
Yes, these are worrying from a public and personal health perspective. But I also shudder to think what new emergency orders, massive spending plans, intrusive executive orders, and other government-induced calamities they may bring.
We can't have it both ways. Whether we mean for it or not, with panic comes invitation to government action.
If you feel you get to get vaccinated, do so. You are responsible for you. And that doesn’t extend to someone else.
It's totally reasonable for vaccinated people not to renew precautionary steps
Careful, Elizabeth. Pretty sure that's bordering on "hate speech".
Misinformation.
Both of those form a venn diagram circle with "individual thought".
The covid variants need to market them selves like the collage Greek system.
Try (tri) delt every one else has
Lambda Lambda Lambda variant affects geeks more than others.
Only the fat and ugly... Sorry booger
By the way, something few people notice about that movie: it depicts an instance of successful rape as a tactic of courtship.
Dude pretends to be cheerleader's boyfriend, goes down on her under those pretenses, only reveals who he really is afterwards, then goes on to get the girl and marry her in the sequels.
Definitely a bold move, with an extremely high risk/reward ratio.
It came from Hollywood, which has been Cuomo-esque for some time.
Keep in mind, that movie was written and directed by people who think Portnoy's Complaint was a lifestyle guide.
Is it bad that I can still recall the Lambda Lambda Lambda and ... O-mega Mu rap?
NERRRRRRDS!!!"
Delta house on double secret probation!
Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to survive COVID.
"knowledge is good" (note knowledge about the actual risks and reinfection rate of the wuflu is bad and undermines the proggi agenda)
The idea that the worst of pandemic politics, COVID-19 culture wars, and overreaching public health initiatives are behind us now also seems remarkably quaint.
Almost as though some can't and won't let these go.
"Instead, despite Mr Spriestersbach's protests that he wasn't Mr Castleberry, he was committed to the Hawaii State Hospital (HSH)."
Obviously, anyone who disagrees with authority must be insane (and definitely seditious).
I knew the Biden Era would be awesome. I just didn’t know it would be THIS awesome.
WASHINGTON (AP) — US official: Number of unaccompanied children encountered by border authorities likely hit all-time high in July.
Just think of all the cost-effective labor they'll provide for billionaire employers like Reason.com's benefactor Charles Koch!
#KeepSendingUnaccompaniedChildren
#OpenBorders
#(EspeciallyDuringAPandemic)
SleepyJoe dreaming of all that hair to sniff.
We are the epicenter of unaccompanied minors wandering in the desert. Doesn’t anyone in this government care?
VP Harris was tasked with addressing this months ago. As a WOC she cannot be criticized for the great job she has done completely addressing this. We should all be thankful for her leadership and amazing qualities.
Lawyers for Mr Spriestersbach have said it all could have been cleared up if police had simply compared the two men's photographs and fingerprints.
Almost like he didn't have legal representation before now.
Will critical race theory bans be "a wake-up call on free speech" for the left?
"What is this 'free speech' to which you refer?"
Since 1/20/21, the Democrats could do it by themselves. What exactly is the excuse for rule by bureaucratic fiat?
Ha, what indeed.
Regarding the eviction moratorium, I wonder: is it a 3rd amendment violation?
"No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law."
Obviously (most) renters aren't members of the US military, but if a dude with a dick can call himself a chick and is expected to be treated as such, why can't a landlord identify as someone whose house is being quartered by soldiers?
Less facetiously: shouldn't the 3rd amendment be read to prohibit Daddy Gov from forcibly occupying domiciles, regardless of whether the occupant is an official soldier?
Postmodernism at it's best.
Dumbass paid trolling at its worst.
Fuck off slaver.
bukleup "Is postmodernism bad? I think it's a bad thing! Fuck off, slaver!'
Fuck off and die, slaver
Sevo: "I'm gonna double down on my ignorance!"
Fuck off and die slowly and painfully, slaver.
You're lying about what post modernism is in a weird attempt to turn around the arguments against your own posts.
Pay your rent
Who, "Welfare Queen" Amalthea?
Lol, I'm against the eviction moratorium, but I don't go to a place where I equate it with quartering soldiers!
But I get in your tribal world anyone who agrees with you must be defended.
Piss of, asshole.
That totally explains why you outright dismissed Turleys arguments above.
Jeff like posting detected. You are against it, but you'll just defend it whenever someone talks badly about it.
The government is forcing landlords to house people in their property by the government with no compensation.
Seems like a rather easy violation of the 3rd Amendment. Government seizing your property for their own use to house people for free.
Well put
They are now getting compensation. At least here. Govt sends the tenants money. The tenants then must get s certified (bank) check and give that to the landlord. Coworker gave me an update on their rental property situation.
How much do you get paid to be a troll Queen? you are so bad at it I'm sure they would be willing to pay me double what they pay you.
Biden ready said it was unconstitutional but he was going to do it because the courts take time to dismiss his orders.
Biden ready said it was unconstitutional but he was going to do it because the courts take time to dismiss his orders until he packs the court, then no problem.
I cannot imagine how an injunction cannot be granted based on his words alone.
Isn't threatening to intentionally do something unconstitutional grounds for impeachment if he follows thru, or at the least insurrectionist and should be put in solitary confinement for half a year or more
Well, if Republicans weren't useless shits it'd be a problem. Biden is blessed to have people like Romney and Cheney as his "opponents"
useless and worthless
Why not? If the commerce clause can be interpreted to mean you can go to jail for growing food on your own land, why can't the 3rd amendment be interpreted to cover more than the quartering of soldiers?
Solider = warrior and you can’t have a SJW without “warrior”
Infrastructure bill gives 1 billion to the commission run by Joe Manchin's wife. Appointed to the position by Biden.
https://www.dailywire.com/news/infrastructure-package-gives-1-billion-to-commission-led-by-joe-manchins-wife
Government is back to operating smoothly.
A terrible bill exemplyfing the worst aspect of the modern Democratic party: just chuck taxpayer money in any direction for every problem.
And also Nepotism. So I guess we don't have a choice after all.
The Queen already forgot that she made the argument against nepotism and for bureaucracy earlier. She's having a hard time keeping track of all her nonsensical and bad faith arguments.
Also:
https://www.zerohedge.com/political/infrastructure-bill-mandates-new-cars-detect-drunk-driver
Wow. Their actually mandating spyware in cars.
There has never (not even during the civil war, WWII, and the post 9/11 nonsense), been a bigger threat to the individual liberties of Americans as a whole, as right now.
To be fair...it's been that way every year for 2 decades now. Sure gays can marry, and ever day is 4/20...but the ratchet on spying has never stopped clicking along.
There's also the pilot program for the mileage tax. Get ready to have your every move tracked by a government that despises you.
But don't worry, Biden doesn't say mean things on the Twitters.
Well, he does, but the corporate media pajama class (like ENB) don't freak out about it.
Calling half the country terrorists and white supremacists is pretty mean.
Always own a vehicle w/ no electronics, problem solved. Less to go wrong, and easy to work on, plus, no GPS or spyware.
These interior cameras look to be mandatory regardless of your trim level.
Well Uber was too successful at reducing drunk driving so now we need to stop them and impliments survalence cameras on the people

Lol, the last time it was raised was not under GOP rule.
It's a parody account you stupid bitch.
Progressives and women don't do humor.
I know it's a parody, hence my reply. Lol that you don't get it.
I have acknowledged several times that Democrats used to be a working-class party. Emphasis on USED TO BE. Like, before I was old enough to vote.
The modern Democratic Party, in contrast, exists to serve Wall Street, Silicon Valley, multimillionaire entertainers, and billionaires.

The new NYC Covid Safe app accepted this picture of a menu from @4505_Meats in San Francisco as proof of my valid vaccine.
Artisanal inoculation.
TOP MEN wrote the app.
Probably a nepotism hire.
If the vaccine came in the form of a brisket, pulled pork, or burnt ends, I might get vaccinated.
Free official 4505 Meats vaccine passport inside every side of ribs!
The biden administration and democrats are worried about the party losing Asian and latino voters.
Who knew calling Asians white so you can demonize them and limit their numbers in top performing schools would upset them?
And those Latinos. Don't they realize all Latinos only care about open borders??
https://pjmedia.com/uncategorized/matt-margolis/2021/08/03/democrats-panic-as-latinos-and-asian-voters-leave-the-party-n1466731
No, no. It's obviously because of disinformation. Probably from the Russians.
It couldn't possibly ever be because the Democratic party's messaging has prioritized billionaires and the woke, and alienated everyone else.
They don't care about Latinos only latinex
"Will critical race theory bans be "a wake-up call on free speech" for the left?"
In other words, will statists support free speech when said speech demands restrictions on speech?
I still don't get how this is a free speech issue. Nobody's arguing free speech about banning creationism, so what makes marxist propaganda any different?
They like it more.
Especially in K-12.
Will critical race theory bans be "a wake-up call on free speech" for the left?
This is a culture war of attrition. And it appears the left has more cannon fodder than the right.
That's OK. The right has more cannons than the left (and less reluctance to see a few bodies in the street). Win-win!
Critical race theory and rewriting history is an important gaslighting process needed for the American government to meet its Agenda 2030/21 goals.
You can see the exact same process in Canada and Australia where a massive misrepresentation and vilifying of residential schools as being the equivalent to the holocaust, is underway.
You see this in New Zealand with their government's te reo Maori craze. Everything is colonialism and must be Maorified.
It's harder in Europe where the Europeans are indigenous, but they're using North African and Middle Eastern immigrants and subs in France and England, and Turks in Germany.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed employees and created a hostile work environment...
As saviors will do.
Ya gotta take the bad with the good.
Yeah, but are we really going to hold him accountable for these little foibles after all those lives he saved last year?
Nassau County, New York, has passed a bill that could serve to limit the First Amendment rights of those who criticize cops...
They just want to go home safe space.
Washington Post Fact Checker Glenn Kessler tackles D.C Mayor Muriel Bowser's "poor spin about not following her own mask mandate."
Four Pinocchios. Which, by WaPo Democrat standards, is remarkable.
She's married and pregnant? I thought she was a sex worker.
Her beard is shocked too.
do either DQ?
Bad news for fraternities and sororities.
"At present, the delta variant is being cited as a reason to bring back mask mandates and other restrictions, to mandate vaccines for certain employees, to require proof of vaccine status, to continue Trump-era immigration policies, to extend eviction moratoriums, and to justify other invasive government measures."
----ENB
I don't blame mask mandates, vaccine mandates, proof of vaccine status requirements, immigration policies, eviction moratoriums, or other invasive government measures on the delta variant.
Those are all the fault of our politicians, bureaucrats, media figures, and our fellow Americans who believe what these people say, fail to question what they're told, fail to vote against progressives when they have the chance, and do what they're told to do.
To some extent, we're also to blame. Every time we fail to point out and ridicule the evil, stupid, and elitist progressive narrative to our friends and family, we contribute to the problem. If your friends and family turn to bureaucrats and the news media for solutions to their problems, that's partially your fault. Take responsibility!
How can public policy be the delta variant's fault? Public policy and its toleration are the result of individuals with the power to think for themselves, criticize, make choices, and vote.
Until the delta variant can participate in elections, take over our bureaucracies, and script the news media, mask mandates, vaccine mandates, proof of vaccine status requirements, immigration policies, eviction moratoriums, and other invasive government measures are all our fault.
Did you know there's a recall election in California over lockdown policies enforced by the governor? He'd love us to blame his policies on a virus.
It wasn't a virus that ordered a shutdown of our beaches. It was Gavin Newsom.
https://www.politico.com/states/california/story/2020/04/30/newsom-closes-all-orange-county-beaches-despite-growing-political-backlash-1281581
Every voter who fails to remove this progressive from office only has themselves to blame for awful, progressive policies implemented in California in response to the delta variant.
To an extent, this is why the media and our political leaders are forcing the Vaccination as the subject. They really want us to debate the efficacy/risk of the Vaccinations, rather than the pure evil of forcing people to stick needles in their arms.
The whole Provincetown debacle has shown us that we can find any "science" to support our narrative. The media will amplify the science that meets their narrative, and they will insist that the science from the "others" is wrong. Calling you a science denier is easier than confronting the claim that you are dictating the drugs someone must/must not put in their body.
To an extent, many on the right (like Rand Paul) allow themselves to be pulled into this fight. Rather than make an argument based on principles, they continue to argue scientific facts.
Yep.
But what are we gonna do about it?
https://youtu.be/iEUZLYx7_jU
"Until the delta variant can participate in elections, take over our bureaucracies, and script the news media, mask mandates, vaccine mandates, proof of vaccine status requirements, immigration policies, eviction moratoriums, and other invasive government measures are all our fault."
Well, since Russian social media bots can do all those things, COVID probably can, too.
Bill de Blasio's "Key to NYC" initiative requires vaccine passports, and the headline the next morning reads, "COVID Variants Upend Our Reopening".
This is only true insofar as progressives politicians like Bill de Blasio should be considered a virus. In that narrow, metaphorical sense, yes, viruses are to blame for progressive public policy.

I supposed it's too much to hope that this is all just a viral (pun intended) marketing scheme for these movies?
Just wait 'til you see the total-immersion VR games!
How can you be sure you're not already stuck in a virtual reality vindaloop?
This was the back story for V for Vendetta as well, a pandemic had led to a lock down that lead to a permanent state of emergency. Don’t know about these new movies but in V as in most movies it is the conservatives that seize power. In the real world it is always the left.
That's far worse than anything the virus variants themselves will do. But try explaining that to any of the brain dead, fear addled, mindless lemmings we're all surrounded by and they'll look at you like you're some kind of lunatic.
Nice to live where people do what they please, they take whatever precautions they need, and no government stooge comes around to harass us about viruses as deadly as the seasonal flu.
Piss off government slavers, permanently.
"Hospitals are once again overcrowding."
You know what you should really do, ENB? Turn off twitter. I have seen over and over these bots pushing this "Hospitals overcrowding" narrative. It is CLEARLY bots because account after account has exactly the same verbiage.
Look at the article you referenced. It calls out 50,000 new hospitalizations across the nation. To put that in perspective, there are 6,000 hospitals across the country and over 900,000 licensed beds (which can increase with approval of local authorities). We are talking about less than 10 people per hospital. Even in places like Jacksonville where they are reporting capacity at maximum, this is because (unlike last year) they are *NOT* turning away elective patients. Instead they are temporarily increasing the number of beds they can use to handle the surge.
We had a discussion last week about what it means to be Red Pilled vs Blue Pilled. ENB is blue pilled- not because she is a lefty. She is blue pilled because she happily accepts the narrative being fed to her. Yesterday, she said that "hospitals are swamped" and presented nearly a dozen articles, none of which said that hospitals were swamped. But because that is the narrative being pushed on Twitter- of a crisis that we cannot control- she read every article as evidence that we are blowing through our capacity on hospitals, when it really has not happened.
All of ENB's kvetching and worrying about the Rona is caused because the entire matrix has decided that her bubble needs to kvetch and worry. They aren't being lied to, so much as fed a version of reality that is highly curated to get her to panic. And she is spreading that panic as the Matrix always demanded of her.
It was amazing to watch doctor after doctor, probably need air quotes, on Twitter used the exact same tweet at the exact same time. Then looking up the hospitals and counties they worked in to see the numbers say the exact opposite.
Hopefully it kills her
No! She is with child. The child is innocent.
Then hopefully IT kills her
Be fair. If not for Twitter, ENB's life has no meaning.
I understand there are numerous openings to make sandwiches for Subway - - - - -
Why do all these Trumpistas hang out here and comment critically on the articles?
Because they aren't libertarian.
Why do lefties hang out here and defend bad takes that are generally not libertarian?
Why do TDS-addled piles of lefty shit make up names for those who figured out we had the best POTUS in the last century?
Who's ripping coolage?
"Why do all these Trumpistas hang out here and comment critically on the articles?"
You are calling me a Trumpista? Really?
Yeah, QA does not seem to read your writings.
Overt is far, far, far removed from somebody even remotely fond of Trump
Queen is flailing and sputtering. As usual.
I subscribed to Reason for years. In the last decade it's abandoned even the pretense of libertarianism, and has become bog-standard establishment apologetics a la Slate and Huffpo.
I want old Reason back, and I will continue to criticize the thinly disguised establishment agitprop they're trying to feed us.
This assessment is correct. My hospital normally operates at 80-90% capacity. Its how we make money. With the recent small surge (and it is small, look at the national or state numbers compared with Dec 2020) we are more full than on avg.
But we also have 2 backup units we havent needed to reopen yet that were full last winter. Also we are still doing a full surgery schedule including electives. We have at least 3 layers of buffer that are untouched. And the ICU's are not overrun, no one is being left for dead without care, we have not even been on diversion.
We have 20 COVID right now, most not intubated, none have died this wave in our hospital. We had in the 70's last winter and the ICU and overflow units were full. I live in a red state that does not have crazy mandates and restrictions for the most part.
These people are absolutely blue-pilled. They just pass around the same chicken-little fear porn and get each other hyped on it.
"...With the recent small surge (and it is small, look at the national or state numbers compared with Dec 2020)..."
In the SF bay area, according to the really scary chart in the Chron, the recent 'surge' is up to 11.8 people per 100,000.
That's not symptomatic, not under treatment, not hospitalized, not dead, just diagnosed.
For this, SF is considering papier, bitte.
I would imagine that a lot of people put off surgeries when the coronavirus was raging. Even people who needed heart surgery, etc. were more likely to avoid going under the knife before the vaccine.
Who wants to be in the ICU post-op during the coronavirus epidemic? There must have been a certain amount of pent up demand, and as more of these people became vaccinated, more of them started going into the hospital.
I bet the national hospital occupancy rates reflect some of that pent up demand.
I very nearly lost a very dear relation to me because of this. He was forced to put off hip surgery for nearly 6 months because his DOCTOR didn't want to risk going into the hospital. After months, he could not get out of his chair- his muscles had atrophied to the point of him being unable to stand. He lost over 40% of his body weight.
He finally complained to his PCP who forwarded him to a different doctor who organized the surgery within a few weeks. It probably saved his life. All this because some healthy doctor was happy to stay in his house, earning a fat paycheck to do nothing, while an old man wasted away. By moving to a different county hospital, he was able to get into surgery, even amidst the winter surge.
That's a doctor who's not getting his contract renewed.
"Your wRVU is what?!?! Get the fuck out of here, and good luck to you in the future"
"All this because some healthy doctor was happy to stay in his house, earning a fat paycheck to do nothing,"
My only slight disagreement with your statement. Guy is likely an orthopedic surgeon. There are very few of them making money to stay home. Hospitals werent giving docs money to stay home. In fact, many groups were absolutely struggling when elective surgery got shut down. Most of them have their money directly tied to doing more cases.
Most groups tried to get a PPP loan to pay their employees so they didnt have to furlough, but not all did get one. That would be the only mechanism to stay home and earn pay. My group took a massive hit to our income for a couple months while elective surgery was down.
No argument with the rest of your statement
And I'm saying, there are people who legitimately willfully avoided going to the hospital for fear of covid-19 before the vaccines.
When I worked in a hospital, patient admissions used to dry up during the holidays. Some of that was because doctors would schedule elective surgeries for other times, but ER admissions would evaporate during the holidays, too.
It's November 21st or December 22nd. I may have just had a little heart attack. Maybe it's just gas! I think I'll wait until after Thanksgiving or Christmas when the grandkids have left.
People went without stents for thousands of years. I think I'll take my medication, monitory my blood pressure, and wait until there's a vaccine before I go in for a procedure. That probably went on for a year or more. Now that all those old people vaccinated and feeling safer, they're coming in for those surgeries again--all at the same time.
The low vacancy rates at our hospitals are probably reflecting that.
My system just reinstituted its mask mandate in off-campus admin facilities, even though the rise in COVID census over the past month is barely 5% of capacity, we're under 25% of the winter peak (nevermind last spring, which was an actual emergency situation), and 75% of employees are vaccinated. It's madness.
Whatever, just another excuse to keep me remote until, oh, forever. And I actually want to go into the office, but not if I'm in a dopey mask for no good reason whatsoever.
You know what you should really do, ENB? Turn off twitter. I have seen over and over these bots pushing this “Hospitals overcrowding” narrative. It is CLEARLY bots because account after account has exactly the same verbiage.
It's not really an accident that Twitter addicts are all parroting the exact same talking points. And guess which political party members dominate Twitter use?
It may be bots, though stories tend to cascade through the media, similar headlines, ledes. Similar lack of research, avoidance of facts.
Probably bots bought by somebody DNC-adjacent to push the narrative that the politicians are going to follow regardless.
Even in places like Jacksonville where they are reporting capacity at maximum, this is because (unlike last year) they are *NOT* turning away elective patients.
Keep up with reality willya? Yesterday - there were 11,500 people in FL hospitals. Today, there are 12,400 - 2,500 of whom are in ICU (38% of total ICU beds). Tomorrow, the numbers will be higher not lower. What do you think are the chances of building two 500-bed temp hospitals TODAY in preparation for tomorrow?
At least half a dozen hospitals are mentioned in this story eliminating elective surgery and not allowing visitors. Tomorrow the numbers will be higher - not lower.
You people just really suck at trying to hit rapidly moving targets. Hell - can't even hit last YEAR's targets.
What do you think are the chances of building two 500-bed temp hospitals TODAY in preparation for tomorrow?
Ask your current state governor.

“It’s clear that this variant is capable of causing serious illness in children. You heard those stories coming out of Louisiana pediatric ICUs, where there are kids as young as a few months old who are sick from this,” Dr. Francis Collins said during a CNN interview, although he admitted that such cases “[are] rare.”
But he added that “anyone who tries to tell you, ‘ah you don’t have to worry about it if you are a young, healthy person,’ there’s many counterexamples.”
“That’s the reason why the recommendations are, for kids under 12, that they avoid being in places where they might get infected, which means recommendations of mask-wearing in schools and at home,” Collins said.
“Parents of unvaccinated kids should be thoughtful about this and the recommendation is to wear masks there as well. I know that’s uncomfortable. I know it seems weird, but it is the best way to protect your kids.”

Wtf is with allowing these weasels to "walk it back" just because people noticed what they say is idiotic and abusive?
What he said is so mind-numbingly stupid that it's likely he meant to say, "in public" and had a Freudian slip. But the public health apparatus is so thoroughly totalitarian that I also wouldn't be surprised if he meant it as a trial balloon.
I'm willing to give people the benefit of the doubt, but their credibility is shot at this point.

You just posted this the other day, Impostor Buttplug. And I already explained why it's wrong.
These dubious numbers show Obama's annualized real growth being worse than Ike, JFK, LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, and Clinton. Real Buttplug spent Obama's entire Presidency insisting we were in the strongest economy in US history. There's absolutely no way he'd be so stupid that he'd volunteer information completely eviscerating his fundamental economic claim over the past decade.

Government mandated indoctrination is now Free Speech. The First Amendment protects the government from angry parents and miffed middle management
By mandating easy-to-replicate cards (indicating receipt of a covid vaccine to access restaurants, gyms, concerts and other indoor activities), NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio is finally encouraging entrepreneurship by hundreds/thousands of New Yorkers, who will be soon hawking fake vaccination cards for $50, $20, $10 and eventually (as competition grows) just $5 on street corners.

"Alas, this frightful scenario is starting to go from a convenient plot device to a too-close-for-comfort possibility."
The line between parody and prophecy has been erased.
The new federal moratorium on evicting tenants who don't pay rent applies to high transmission areas and will be in effect through early October, per a new order from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The Supreme Court already opined that the moratorium order was unconstitutional but what's a little Constitution among friends? And the CDC has immediately decided to take advantage of that nod-and-a-wink. Does the Supreme Court have the balls to stand up to the CDC this time around or are they going to find some new excuse to puss out? It was bad enough that the Supreme Court flat said that unconstitutionality was no big deal as long as it wasn't too much unconstitutionality, if they don't jump on this sort of bullshit fast and hard then that's it, there is no more rule of law.
The thing is, the rule of law already only applies to the people stupid enough to believe in the rule of law and that's us. At some point, enough regular people are going to wake up to the fact that either the law applies to everyone or it applies to no one and you're a sucker for following the rules when nobody else is. And then things are going to get very ugly very fast.
You wonder where all this shit is heading? America is a profoundly evil, racist country founded on evil, racist principles by evil, racist white men and therefore the Constitution and Law itself is an evil, racist relic of white male supremacy and if you're not a white male you are under no obligation to obey the law. If you're not a white male, the law does not apply to you. That's it purely and simply. Only white men have to obey the law, everybody else is free to do as they please. And that's the way it should be, "for justice".
At some point, enough regular people are going to wake up to the fact that either the law applies to everyone or it applies to no one and you’re a sucker for following the rules when nobody else is
Except that's not the case. The law only doesn't applies to the right people and it only doesn't apply to the wrong people. So if Antifa Annie down the street decides to burn down a church full of black children, the police won't even stop her to ask questions as she's leaving the scene with an empty gasoline canister. But if you decide to walk into a grocery store without presenting the appropriate identification, you'll be put in solitary confinement without trial for at least six months for endangering democracy.
We now know that Senile Joe Biden and his administration of left wing fools is violating the Constitution of the United States of America by pushing forward with a new illegal ban on evictions. Therefore, they are treasonous criminals that should be prosecuted. Impeachment proceedings should start immediately. Admin officials should be investigated tried and jailed.
Anyone against this is also committing treason and likewise should be investigated for sedition and acting against the interests of the country.
As per routine procedures those people should be placed in solitary confinement awaiting trial and sentencing and held without bail. This was established as proper by the DOJ and the federal courts.
With full vaccinations, Covid may turn out to be on the order of the flu. But what if it mutated as rapidly as the flu does? Every year we get a new flu variety. And a huge number of people die of it every year. But we don't freak out about it.
So my fear is that Covid mutates just as fast, and new variants will be the excuse for permanent lockdowns forever.
So get your damned vaccinations! Not because the government tells you to, but to deny government an excuse to impose arbitrary rules every Monday morning. They'll still do it, but don't hand them the excuse for it.
"...So get your damned vaccinations!..."
Fuck off and die, TDS-addled pile of shit.
Fuck off
Agree that anyone who can get vaccinated and hasn’t should so.
Nevertheless, it seems apparent now that this is pretty much guaranteed to become another endemic coronavirus that we have to learn to live with and manage. Studies indicate that at least one-third of white taildeer have SARS-COV-2 antibodies in their system, which almost certainly means that it spreads among other animals far more easily than anyone realizes. You’ve probably noticed that white tail deer don’t exactly like to hang close to humans very much. Those things are natural born social distancers.
LOL. Do what the government tells you to so they don't force you to do it seems to be the typical leftitarian response here.
Vaccinations would only increase the rate at new vaccine resistant strains from appearing. Not even the CDC is claiming that 100% vaccination rate would stop covid forever. That is just anti-science nonsense so you can tell others what to do.
the goal will be shots every year even though all other variants are less harmful. it is about control of the people and the media and how voting is done to ensure certain groups maintain power. they don't really give a shit about anyones health.
Vaccination hasn't made the flu go away and I'm pretty sure it's not making this go away either. Everyone getting vaccinated isn't going to fix this problem. People need to stop going along with this shit. Massive disobedience is the only way this stops.
Your fear is your problem. Put on the big boy pants and evolve into adulthood.
"Congress has had since March 2020 to enact a (potentially) lawful eviction moratorium, with compensation for landlords. Since 1/20/21, the Democrats could do it by themselves. What exactly is the excuse for rule by bureaucratic fiat?"
First of all welcome to planet Earth since you've obviously just arrived. There's this thing called a filibuster. You can figure out the rest.
Oh, so you can point to the bill the democrats introduced to extend the moratorium? Or are you just blindly defending the left again?
So the Ds can't pass an unconstitutional bill 'cause or Rs?
Gee, pod, maybe we need more Rs.
Also maybe congress shouldn't get between landowners and their tenants. you don't want fascism but that is teh definition of fascism.
So, the Democrat controlled legislature in Albany is accelerating their impeachment proceedings against Cuomo, and they may be ready to take a vote as soon as next week.
"The Assembly’s judiciary committee, which is conducting the impeachment inquiry, plans to meet Monday and combine the report with evidence it has already collected, members said. The chamber’s Democratic lawmakers convened remotely Tuesday after the release of the 165-page report by state Attorney General Letitia James, Assembly members said.
Lawmakers said there was a consensus during a three-hour conversation that Mr. Cuomo was no longer fit to stay in office. Several legislators who had previously stopped short of calling for the governor to step down did so in public Tuesday, including Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, a Democrat from the Bronx.
https://www.wsj.com/articles/andrew-cuomo-faces-impeachment-threat-more-resignation-calls-after-sexual-harassment-report-11628069400?
Here's the part that got me thinking:
"A Marist Poll released Wednesday found 59% of New Yorkers surveyed after the release of Ms. James’s report believed Mr. Cuomo should resign from office, and the same percentage of voters said he should be impeached if he didn’t step down on his own."
----Ibidem
59% said he should resign on be impeached--WTF are the other 41% thinking?
Most Republicans were probably happy to see Cuomo resign or be removed from office before any of this ever happened. Most of the 41% who don't think Cuomo should resign of be removed from office are presumably on the left.
Is this 41% saying that these women shouldn't be believed? Are they saying that they won't come to judgements until Cuomo's lawyers have had a chance to grill these women on the witness stand in a court of law?
Maybe the 41% are saying something else. Are they saying that they don't really care about sexual harassment all that much--so long as a progressive stays in office--like the feminists did during the Clinton administration?
I don't see how to sugarcoat this. Any way you slice it, it looks like a fat chunk of progressive in places like New York have been just playing lip service to cancel culture all along.
Some may prefer to see him face impeachment and be forcibly kicked out. But I don’t think anywhere near 41% of them. A resignation is a one day headline. A lengthy impeachment puts his ego on display for longer. And it could matriculate into questions regarding his handling of the nursing homes. Ken Starr did not begin investigating a blowjob.
59% said he should be removed from office or resign.
If he resigns, it'll be immediate. If he's impeached, it may be as soon as next week, and they're saying the consensus among Democrats in Albany is that they'll remove him from office. The Democrats' speaker of the house in their state legislature says she wants to remove him from power.
The question is about what the Democrat voters who don't want to lose him are thinking, and whatever else they're thinking, it appears to be in addition to not giving a shit about cancel culture. Cancel culture is all about removing people from public life for things they've said or done--that may not even be crimes.
The breakdown of election results in New York state went 61% Biden to 38% Trump in the presidential election of 2020. I strongly suspect Trump voters are more than happy to see Cuomo go. Subtract that 35% from the 59% of New Yorkers who think Cuomo should resign or be impeached right now. That means 24% of them may be Democrats who think Cuomo should either resign or be removed from office right now.
Doesn't that suggest that only a small fraction of Democrats in New York state really care about cancel culture? Because if 41% of New Yorkers don't think Cuomo should resign or be removed from office despite all the evidence against him, they apparently don't care about cancel culture--any way you want to slice it. By that estimation, only 24% of New Yorkers really give a shit about cancel culture.
That is a remarkably low percentage for such a highly progressive state. We should expect the percentage of cancel culture social justice warriors to be even smaller nationally. They make a lot of noise, but they aren't anywhere near as big of a group as the ns media makes them out to be--not among the voters. Cancel culture social justice warriors appear to be overrepresented in the Democratic leadership of the party, but among the voters, there may not be that many of them.
It doesn't matter, Ken.
Cuomo isn't even going down for his most egregious offenses, and the left ultimately doesn't care if they have to sacrifice a pawn.
You're free to celebrate, but don't delude yourself into thinking this is some sort of significant victory.
It's a sideshow on the road to totalitarianism.
Are they saying that they don’t really care about sexual harassment all that much–so long as a progressive stays in office–like the feminists did during the Clinton administration?
This also assumes a single issue mindset/lack of awareness. Locking old people in assisted living forcing them to die is OK as long as a progressive stays in office.

Moving the goal posts:
Covid in a historical context.
Percentage of population killed by epidemics:
Black Plague (Europe): 30%
1918 Flu Epidemic (worldwide): 1%
Covid 19 (worldwide) as of August 1, 2021): .06%
Fauci’s Wuhan lab needs to come up with something deadlier to help impose additional restrictions.
we all get trophies now a days so yea .06% means everyone must contribute to be fair
Black Plague (Europe): 30%
1918 Flu Epidemic (worldwide): 1%
Covid 19 (worldwide) as of August 1, 2021): .06%
The Black Plague is estimated by some to have killed as much as HALF the population of Europe all on its own. Edward III actually implemented salary caps on skilled workers and craftsmen, because the plague killed off so many that the ones who survived were in such high demand they could basically name their price and they'd get it.
Estimates vary. I used a "low" estimate. It also varies according to which one of the plagues one looks at.
The two things aren't mutually exclusive. England is a part of Europe but it's not all of it and the plague affected some parts worse than others.
It also varied considerably depending on where one lived. For instance, those living in the cities in England suffered considerably more than those living in the country.
I don't think COVID even qualifies for Wikipedia's top 100 pandemics.
1918 Flu Epidemic (worldwide): 1%
FWIW, I've generally seen more rigorous estimates in the range of 1.5-3.5%
I went by total worldwide deaths compared to population. But yeah, given the record-keeping, especially in poorer countries, it could very well have been higher.

viruses don't upend. governments upend.
Well, we need to be honest here. Viruses (and other diseases) can upend. If your plague that literally no one understands is killing 30% of the population, that's going to upend some stuff. But if your plague is killing .06% of the population (and even that my be a gross overestimation), then yeah, a total "lockdown" (funny how we use prison terminology in a completely cavalier manner) instituted by government is what's doing the upending.
fair enough. no need to bomb Cedar Creek just yet ...
“lockdown” (funny how we use prison terminology in a completely cavalier manner)
Yeah, "funny" (I know what you mean). I've been disgusted by people's willingness to accept that, and use that term, since I think the Boston Marathon bombing which may be the first time I heard it outside of a prison context.
Even funnier; “shelter in place” when the lockdowns first started. They were using the active shooter verbiage for virus restrictions.

Almost certainly not being over 65, pregnant women are not at higher risk. Pregnancy is not a comorbidity. Not enough to get attention because your pregnant but gotta heap the "I'm more likely to be a victim!" feminist bullshit on top don't you?
The CDC probably says that because 30% of 'covid hospitalizations' are actually just pregnant women doing what they do -- going to the hospital (it's the #1 reason for a stay). Remove all the context and it looks alarming.

I have a feeling that definitions, as with virtually every other part of the English language in this pandemic, are being fudged. Whether inadvertently through the doctors/medical experts-public health officials-lay press telephone game or inentionally, terms like 'morbidity', 'mortality', 'incidence', 'prevalence', 'comorbidity', 'complication', and 'condition' are being widely conflated.
Even in reports that are clearly alarmist, the data is still pretty clear:
So, 90% were 'immune' (by vaccination standards) and the only 3 to die had actual comorbidities that both did/didn't pre-empt the pregnancy concerns.
What's funny is that one or two generations ago, feminists like ENB would've actively shunned considering pregnancy as disabling or a disease and considering women as being unequal/more frail simply because they reproduced.
Pregnant with COVID, or pregnant because of COVID?
Does the mass of cells have COVID?
Did ENB actually get through this tedious screed without mentioning the fact that the death rate continues to decline despite the variant? Infections don't matter.
Fear ain’t gonna sell itself.

Reason is explicitly a libertarian advocacy organization. I dunno why they feel the need to keep around a token leftist.
Well ENB..maybe your smoking you told us about wasn't a good idea...hopefully you quit when you got pregnant and will not go back..believe me as a biochemist..smoking will kill you way before a virus related to the common cold created in a lab.
There is NO variant. Doesn't exist except for a Genome sequence which is 99.9% the same as CV84. All crap. Instead of adding another bio engineered cold or flu bug to our typical lives, which will do the typical little sickness for 99& of the world, we have allowed the Resetters nearly complete control. WTFU!
