Brickbat: Foiled Again

At around 7 a.m. in March 2020, an Alberta SWAT team knocked in the door of the home rented by Joshua Bennett and Jennifer Hacker. At the same time, an armored vehicle knocked out their living room window and cops fired tear gas into the home and tossed in a stun grenade. They arrested the pair, took them to Calgary police headquarters and questioned them for more than three hours, demanding to know where the drugs they expected to find were. Bennett told them there was some marijuana in the basement. But the cops said they didn't care about marijuana. They wanted to know where the meth was. There was no meth. The raid stemmed from the fact that a suspected drug dealer was seen at their home, and Bennett was seen at her home, plus a confidential informant claimed that the woman used rural homes to stash her drugs. Bennett said he only bought some marijuana and used clothes from the woman. The raid caused $50,000 in damage to the home, and now the police are refusing to pay for repairs.

Ha! Take that, landlord!
The full CBC article was well written and informative. A rarity in today’s journalism.
Then we wonder why the rent is so high! Thanks, Government Almighty!
If they were to make government responsible for damages and intrusions against personal property that might disparage them from taking these necessary steps to protect us. We can't have that.
Obtaining a warrant should require getting a performance bond.
I had an idea that wrongly executed warrants, and all warrants for cases which don't get a guilty conviction, should all rebound: the victims get to replay the warrants on those who wrote or executed them, any time in the next year, at any time of their choosing.
Or, of course, those warriors could negotiate payment in lieu of replay, but not like an eminent domain "negotiation"; in these negotiations, the victim holds all the cards.
It might encourage some humility and responsibility.
I thought this shit only happened in the US.
More fool you. Canadians vaunted "politeness" is mostly a passive-aggressive act (they really want you to just go away). Canadians have pretty much the same propensity for criminality as everyone else in the world and their cops react in pretty much the same way as police forces around the world react to the various malefactors in their communities do.
For another country with an undeserved reputation for non-violence, check out Sky News Australia for the kinds of abuses that Australia's state police forces used against "violators" of lockdown and quarantine rules. Yes, Australian cops are slightly less likely to shoot you or your dog, but hauling a pregnant woman away in handcuffs an hour before her ultrasound appointment because she posted on Facebook about an anti-lockdown protest is certainly included in their playbook.
So it's not just the US. Canuck Cops are assholes too. Polite assholes, but still assholes.
As I noted above, "Canadians vaunted “politeness” is mostly a passive-aggressive act (they really want you to just go away)."
Beneath the wokeness of its major metropolitan areas (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver) Canada is a country that is not much different from West Bumfuck, Anywhere in the world.
Canadians arent in the least bit polite. I dont know how that myth started, but it wasnt by an american who knew anyone from london or montreal.
In fact, the level of rudeness from londoners montrealites is rivaled only in america by people in philly, new york or new jersey.
And they fucking dumb... good god are those people dumb....
