CDC Says Vaccinated People Don't Need To Wear Masks or Socially Distance At All
Local officials should end most pandemic restrictions immediately.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced Thursday that people who are fully vaccinated do not need to wear masks or engage in social distancing while outdoors or indoors. CDC Director Rochelle Walensky explained that except in a few special circumstances, vaccinated people can resume normal life completely.
"We have all longed for this moment," said Walensky during a media briefing.
The available data made it clear, Walensky said, that the vaccines are very effective at eliminating both illness and transmission of COVID-19, and that they have thus far tackled the variants with incredible success.
"Anyone who is fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities, large or small, without wearing a mask or physical distancing," she said. "If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things you stopped doing because of the pandemic."
This news is long overdue, as it has been clear for weeks that the vaccines should be considered a ticket back to normality. The CDC has proceeded with extreme caution.
But that makes this declaration all the more important: If even the notoriously risk-averse CDC says the vaccinated can put away their masks, then there's no reason to keep local restrictions in place. If you're not vaccinated, get vaccinated; if you are vaccinated, do whatever you want. All government mandates should reflect this reality.

Getting the disease? Sure. Giving the disease? Not to the vaccinated. If you don't think enough of your own health to get vaccinated, what gives you the right to make that my problem?
You are talking out of your ass. If you are vaccinated then you don't need to worry about anyone else, vaccinated or unvaccinated.
If you are intentionally unvaccinated good luck.
Tell it to the eight NY Yankees who caught the bug, despite being vaccinated.
Fuck you and your shitty Chinese flu. Stay home, you fucking coward.
Still super rare, 1/10000 ish odds of reinfection.

Officials can restrict away, people can obey, it makes no difference to me. I decide what I do with my body, not officials. This is called "exercising rights", self-governing, being an adult. I know it's not common. I know most are waiting to be told how to live their lives. I know most are unable to think for themselves, or to think at all. I am an exception. I was "born that way". You do you, I'll do me. Live & let live is my political mantra, unlike most who exist as they are allowed by their masters, by the laws made to control them, demean them.
Awesome! Are you going to get vaccinated?

If you scare get vaxxed or go to church
I still think it's going to be sometime around the end of May to mid-June for most places. At least if we want to do it without having to carry our vaccine cards with us everywhere.
Fuck your vaccine card. Fuck your fetish mask. I go where I fucking choose, and no one has stopped me.

I know a way to protect you against KungFlu forever. All you need to do is drink a jug of drain cleaner, and let it do it’s work.
If you do, I promise you will never have to worry about WuFlu ever again.
If you hate America so much you're free to leave.
Asshole flag again!
You’re a silly bitch. I’ll bet they pass you around like a pack of cigarettes on your cell block.
Well, we got the mute button now.
Did ya mute me?
A lot of people have.
Mitt Romney hasn’t muted you. He wants to give you a Mormon foot massage.
Hi KARen!
Why would anyone mute you? You’re an impotent, angry little incel, but you’re harmless. Pretty funny, actually.
Keep up the good work. Don’t change. Haha.
So you're not mad at me?
If you're like ever in the NW maybe we can like hang out?
Instead of asking random people to hang out like the disgusting creep you are, you could also just hang yourself? Should be used to hanging [out] alone anyways.
You’re probably about 5’6” and either scrawny or a tubby spear shaped schlub. I’ll bet you’re gangfucked by Mormon men every day.
You’re a little bitch.
Asshole gets flagged again!
Once you've muted asshats like KAR, it's kind of funny; you can tell they are posting by reading the responses, but you don't have to see their drivel. Win/win.
Not me! I ENJOY listening to retarded harelips.
Based. I love it.
Property owners here, have usually gotten pissy if you don't wear one. So I do when I visit them. To hell with you fuckers who demand taking an experimental vaccine to prevent a disease that someone in my age cohort usually needs a test to figure out if they're even infected.
I'm not suggesting you do anything. I'm only predicting how my local authorities will react. Unfortunately, the guy in charge of my county is a medical doctor. Super conservative with the risk equation.
He's gonna want to wait, and he's going to have to back it up with something. My best guess is - everyone was opened to receive the vaccines on April 11th or so, give them a couple weeks to get their first shot, so April 25th, then 3 or 4 more weeks till the 2nd shot, so that's roughly mid-May (now) and then 2 more weeks of waiting until full efficacy.
That puts us at about the start of June to the middle of June depending on how chicken-shit our local leader is.
For what it's worth, I work in a hospital; we've been interacting directly with COVID patients for over a year now; because we all wore 1] the right mask 2] the right way and 3] at the right times and circumstances, none of us got it. Now that we are all vaccinated I am a lot more confident that I will continue to not get infected [and we still wear protective gear at work].
But one friend and colleague of mine, for his own reasons [and such is his, and every persons, right] did not get vaccinated. Unfortunately, he got COVID and died as a result.
So, based on my personal experiences in health care, I advise you to get over "taking an experimental vaccine to prevent a disease that someone in my age cohort usually needs a test to figure out if they’re even infected." Now that is just my opinion, and you do as you wish; that is on you. As it should be.
Well that changed quick. Have we always been at war with Eurasia?
Always.
Except for a brief period of four years when we weren't starting wars with anybody.
Except for a brief period of four years when we weren’t starting wars with anybody.
The dark times of Nazi leadership.
Fortunately, the people in charge now are all sane and good and noble and simply want to point out how unfair it is that so few Jews were killed in the violence in Israel.
The nazis definitely believed in open borders.
Sure they did. The believed in open borders within the framework of a new order encompassing the entire world and dominated by themselves...Where have I heard that one before?
Remember when Hitler (the orange one) made a quip about buying Greenland? Lots of fun discussions with historically ignorant State-worshippers on that one:
T: He can't buy Greenland!
M: Why not, we bought pretty much everything West of the Mississippi? When we flagged our real estate market it caused their economy to effectively collapse. If they're that invested in us, material costs/ROI aside, I don't see the substantial difference in reciprocating as much or more than we do with, say, Puerto Rico. It's not like he's proposing a military occupation, there would be a negotiation and they would have to accept payment. It's better than what we did in Iraq or Afghanistan.
T: It's a country! You can't buy a country!
M: Why not?
T: That would be like buying a culture or a religion. You can't buy someone's God!
M: *Raises eyebrows, turns on heel*
Also, the CDC director who just announced this definitely didn't have a meltdown and use the term "impending doom" just 6 weeks ago...
And your chocolate ration has been increased to 20 grams per week.
I should've realized...
No, but the chocolate ration just got increased from 20 to 15.
Over/under on number of days until Biden stops wearing his mask completely: 30
Is that the death pool over/under?
ummmm.... if it's never how do I get paid for my bet?
He will die one day (hopefully after he is president, just so we don't get President Harris [well, officially]), and even if they bury him in his mask, eventually it will rot away or fall off.
At this point the mask is keeping his dentures in place.
It's a feed bag filled with donepezil.
>> If you're not vaccinated, get vaccinated
*not* the lesson.
I know right? This stupid author just undid all the good of the anti-vaccine articles here.
Whatever “libertarian” pretended to edit this, and whoever oversees the supreme lack of editorial oversight in general here should be ashamed.
They are beyond shame. As are most people working in or with .Gov in D.C. Act accordingly.
Recombinant vaccines (like this one, where only a fragment of the entire antigen is used to produce an immune response) do not provide lasting immunity. I'd say it's 50/50 that boosters will be required every 6-9 months. Sounds like a fine implementation of another Big Pharma revenue stream.
Agree, but those odds are more like 90/10; I completed vaccination series in January and expect I will be getting a booster in the Fall.
As to who is making bank off of this, or where and how it started [and these are indeed valid concerns] my first priority is to not get the fucking virus.
But the rest of you do as you wish; just try to be informed about your decision.
The vaccine doesn't stop you from contracting the virus, but it reduces the average severity of symptoms. So, hypothetically, what is the difference between a vaccinated asymptomatic or low symptom COVID patient and an unvaccinated asymptomatic or low symptom COVID patient? Why does the former get to hug other people maskless while the latter has to stay isolated at home?
There are two studies out from Israel and GB that show 80% reduction in transmission post vaccine including asymptomatic and symptomatic people. A CDC study had same result. These are in real world conditions.
In other words compared to non vaccinated people.
Did they differentiated between asymptomatic and symptomatic or just lumped them all together?
A useful rule of thumb in statistical studies is that any extraneous variable you can think of probably was thought of my the researchers, who have more experience in the field.
There are ways for people with less experience to critique papers from people with more, saying, but what about this?, is not how.
A useful rule of thumb in statistical studies is that any extraneous variable you can think of probably was thought of my the researchers, who have more experience in the field.
Such inimitable omniscience totally explains why the majority of scientific research is so reproducible. They're so good at thinking of and considering all the variables, even in *novel* research, that their peers are able to effortlessly reproduce their results based on the clear instruction.
Climate science is the perfect example. Nothing but pristine, reproducible, and accurate results for over 40 yrs. All the error is due to the innaccuracy of physio-chemical measurement, which the statisticians have totally and clearly accounted for.
+ many! All has been considered!
You also have to keep relative efficacy versus absolute efficacy in mind. Pharmaceutical companies will use relative efficacy in their marketing materials for an obvious reason: it makes their shit look grrrrrrreat! How? Take an infamous case with Lipitor, for example, that said it reduced heart attack risk by 36%:
"This 36% number comes from a randomized trial called ASCOT-LLA published in The Lancet in 2003. It showed that 1.9% of people taking Lipitor suffered a heart attack, while 3.0% of the placebo group had one. The relative risk reduction, or RRR, is the ratio of the two risks and is calculated by subtracting the Lipitor heart attack rate (1.9) from the placebo group rate (3.0) and dividing the difference (1.1) by the placebo group rate (3.0). This equals 36%.
But the absolute risk reduction, or ARR, is calculated by simply subtracting the two risks, so 3.0% – 1.9% = 1.1%."
That's a Pfizer product, so what about the Pfizer vaccine? 95% relative risk reduction...and 0.71% absolute. We're emotional creatures, however, and we're evolutionarily wired to go with the "feels" over the facts. It's obvious why they'd advertise the 95% and omit the 0.71%. The messaging tends to work, especially in the context of a pandemic. I'm not saying that the vaccine does nothing, but it may not be as effective as advertised.
Ve = 1 - (Rvacc/Runvacc)...where Rx is the risk associated with the state.
So 90% efficacy means that Rvacc is 10x smaller than Runvacc
The transmission percent for asymptomatic people is under 5% per the CDC.... So how can it reduce it even more and not just be considered noise? Plus if you were asymptomatic you have already built up an immune response to the disease so the vaccine does little to nothing.
The studies have shown that asymptomatic infection rates are lower in those vaccinated (>= 12 days after vaccination) than in the unvaccinated. That alone will reduce overall transmission, which is really the point. However, evidence from Israel suggests that viral loads are lower in the vaccinated (again if the positive test is 12 or more days after vaccination) by about 75%, this is typically associated with lower transmission (though this would of course include both asymptomatic and symptomatic patients).
Aren't asymptomatic infection rates already below the noise line?
Epistemologically speaking, either they were below the line enough to forego 'flattening the curve' or they weren't and effectively flattening the curve because of asymptomatic is/was between impossible and unreasonable (not in the 'unjustifiable' sense but in the 'not able to be reasoned' sense). Two weeks to make sure you know what you know makes some semblance sense. Two months, especially in the (post-)Information Age and lots of people are going to die while you dick around trying to figure out how to use the inernet. Two years and any real threat was going to kill at least a few million people no matter what you did on that time scale.
Moreover, as I said above, there are apparently legions of mammals as yet entirely unaccounted for assymptomatically waiting in the wings.
They're also running the cycles for vaccinated people at 27, not 40.
An important point. Cycles shoulda been ~27 the entire time. The tests that indicate infectiousness are the rapid antigen and a low cycle count PCR.
If the "vaccine doesn’t stop you from contracting the virus but it reduces the average severity of symptoms" then it's not a vaccine but rather a therapeutic treatment.
It's not effective at providing immunity just effective at creating the cellular response that triggers the immune system.
Except this is how most vaccines work, they don't stop contraction (if by that you mean, in the case of COVID, having the virus invade your cells), they just make it so that the immune response is activated upon that happening, meaning the virus/bacteria generally cannot reproduce enough to cause viral loads that cause symptoms or allow for transmission. The only vaccines that don't work this way are toxoid vaccines (like the D & T in DTaP and Tdap), which actually work against the toxins produced by bacterial infections, rather than the bacteria themselves.
"It’s not effective at providing immunity just effective at creating the cellular response that triggers the immune system." This is literally what immunity is.
“It’s not effective at providing immunity just effective at creating the cellular response that triggers the immune system.” This is literally what immunity is.
You're arguing virology with someone who doesn't/can't understand and/or can't articulate the difference between humoral/B-cell immunity and cellular/T-cell immunity. It seems exceedingly likely that you could give Consensus_Denier a full course on immunology and the exchange would still end like any conversation with a 2 yr. old asking "But why?" over and over again.
There is, however, a distinction made in the medical community between effective immunity and sterilizing immunity in the context of vaccines: https://theconversation.com/coronavirus-few-vaccines-prevent-infection-heres-why-thats-not-a-problem-152204. So yes, unqualified "immunity" is the provocation of the immune system, but clearly there is a scale of efficacy to be considered.
The likelihood of anyone vaccinated developing the level of viral load necessary to propagate the virus is very low.
While it is theoretically possible to be an asymptomatic carrier after vaccination, it's not something that's likely to happen to anyone.
Also, the kind of "zero-risk" baseline that places like CA and Los Angeles have been trying to predicate their response policies on (at least until the push to fire the Governor got some legs) has always been insane.
"The likelihood of anyone vaccinated developing the level of viral load necessary to propagate the virus is very low."
If that is the case, then why am I reading about 8 NY Yankees who've been vaccinated, but have come down with COVID?
CDC Limits Review of Vaccinated but Infected; Draws Concern
So, 16 mos. after initial outbreak and there are something between a dozen and a hundred cases of natural infection followed by natural reinfection worldwide. But, less than 6 mos. after the release of the vaccine, there are thousands of documented cases of natural reinfection in the US alone.
And to add extra shit icing to the shit cake you're being "asked" to eat, the CDC is saying they're going to curtail monitoring vaccinated people because they aren't able to generate even trivially convincing lies fast enough.
natural infection followed by natural reinfection
This needs an asterisk. It's not clear whether it's reinfection or that they in fact never cleared the virus and simply became asymptomatic carriers. Either way, still empirical evidence that natural immunity is superior to induced.
There's also the possibility that a high CT used in PCR testing resulted in false positives for the first "infection" that might have, in fact, been some other disease. No way to know for sure, but just a thought.
The only rational argument I have heard related to the hypothesis that acquired immunity is better than natural is that having the infection yields less predictable levels of antibodies & B/T cell response. However, I have not seen any data that backs up that hypothesis.
“ The vaccine doesn’t stop you from contracting the virus...”
What is your basis for that premise? It seems reasonable to hypothesize that vaccination will reduce the chance that you will be infected given exposure to an applicable pathogen, just as natural immunity should.
It might be the 9,000+ people who have been fully vaccinated and then laboratory tested positive for the virus. In contrast, there have been approximately 60 cases, globally, of laboratory confirmed reinfection after laboratory confirmed infection. Until the CDC starts putting those who have recovered from the virus in the same category as those who are vaccinated (freedom-wise), it has absolutely no credibility.
And you assume some current credibility?
When he says 9000+ people have been fully vaccinated and then tested positive, he's quoting the CDC.
Where on earth are people getting this BS about the vaccines not preventing you from getting infected? It is total BS. The CDC in their fear mongering did say that some people could catch it still and those people might spread it while asymptomatic.
But I. The real world the some people is a miniscule percentage and of those that catch it the risk of spreading it is even smaller because asymptomatic people just have less mucous and coughs to spread it with.
So what you have done is take the absurd CDC fear mongering and amplified it and took it to say the vaccines don't stop infection.
They do. They literally cut your chances of being infected down to 1/10 of without vaccines. They just aren't guaranteed to work for every person. So yeah a small amount of vaccinated people will get sick with a minor illness.
This really isn't that hard to understand is it?
How do we prove who's vaccinated and who's not?
Duh. Arm tatoos.
Face tattoos. Just like the Maori. Each line in the design represents the brand, year, disease, and variant you were vaccinated with.
Numbered tattoos.
Just like your Nazi buddies in Germany did.
Asshole flagged!
No. Just like YOUR Nazi buddies. I am in no way a socialist. Nazis are. It’s in the name.
And this is what your treasonous masters like Biden will attempt to force upon us. I’m against it.
Get vaxd if you want and stop worrying about it. Everyone else can do the same.
or get vaxd and start worrying about *that*
I was replying to Karen Reynolds above to stop worrying about who is/isnt vaxd. But yes, vax does have unknown risks.
just adding to the worry.
I think you misunderstood his concern.
What he wants to know is when can we expect normal given that we can’t distinguish.
Unfortunately I expect that will not happen until we see more vaccinated and even more drop in cases.
Yes.
Diane (Paul) is very respected hereabouts. You misunderstood the point.
Sorry DRP if I missed the point. 50 lashes with a wet noodle.
yes, the point was missed. It's easy to say "the CDC says masks aren't req'd for vaxed people". Now walk into your local supermarket without a mask and see if you're hustled out of the building.
"Now walk into your local supermarket without a mask and see if you’re hustled out of the building."
My wife does it every week. 😉
I've done it for a year now in my (still) mask-mandated state, and have been hustled out about 50 percent of the time. Last week in my local grocery, though, most people weren't wearing masks, and the manager who usually cracks the whip soured her mouth up in disapproval but didn't come screeching up to us as per usual.
You are a guest on their premises. Why would you not honor their house rules?
Not a guest, a customer, and you'll note the Nurse Ratshit didn't expel the 'miscreant'. Perhaps the owners of the store will instruct Nurse Ratshit.
yes, the point was missed. It’s easy to say “the CDC says masks aren’t req’d for vaxed people”. Now walk into your local supermarket without a mask and see if you’re hustled out of the building.
Oh sure, and then you'll probably get persnickety about the fact that I'm not sober!
The CDC isn’t issuing the mask orders. That is the state governor.
I'm a business owner, I'm not letting anyone in without a hazmat suit unless they provide me some sort of passport or flair on their arm that indicates they're vaxxed.
So now you're taking over OBL's schtick?
WILL NO ONE RID ME OF THIS TURBULENT PARODY?
WILL NO ONE RID ME OF THIS TURBULENT PARODY?
[Muted]
why do you care anymore?
They should be wearing at least fifteen pieces of flair.
I'm suprised a fascist like you can make a joke.
One more for the asshole.
I do it all the time. And I’m not a fascist. Fascism is another for, of socialism. I am not a socialist. You are.
You are a infinitely closer to being a fascist or a nazi than I am. But you’re too stupid to understand that.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought that.
i got the vax and it made my third testicle swell like a tennis ball! i mean, sure the missus liked it but it made my slacks too tight and caused chafing
If you're vaccinated, why do you care what all those other idiots are doing?
Okay, yes, there is some residual risk for those who can't get vaccinated because of compromised immune systems, allergies to the vaccine components, etc. But those people have always been at elevated risk for flu, measles and every other vaccinatable disease. They and their families will cope as best they can - as they have always done. That's not relevant to the broader discussion.
It appears that people either willfully or obtusely missed my point. If we can eliminate all the mask requirements for vax'd people... then the implication is some sort of government document will be required to transact freely in society?
Or is that a system that's now considered "libertarian"?
I got you the first time around, and it's a valid question that no one is addressing. If, as some communities assert, there will be NO proof of vaxx required, then the CDC dictate is beside the point. Otherwise, it means vaxx passports and that's about as anti-libertarian as you can get. Maybe not anti-Reason, tho.
Vax passports are not necessarily "anti-libertarian".
If a business wants to create a passport, presumably at some cost and in a form that is easily verifiable, for those who want them and are willing to share their medical records, that would not be anti-libertarian. For those few people who can't get the vaccine for some medical reason, this organization could require a doctor's certification of that fact and track which doctors are issuing such certifications and refuse to accept additional ones from that doctor (or investigate further) if a doctor is issuing an inordinate number of such certifications that is inconsistent with their specialty.
Nor would it be anti-libertarian for any private business to require that all customers have such passports and/or have special "COVID Hours" where unvaccinated customers would be allowed in (perhaps with reduced services to avoid risks to employees).
Government requirements around this could, of course, be "anti-libertarian".

This is a passport and, from a libertarian perspective, a business refusing to accept my passport because my doctor
Jewishextremely efficient at vaccinating people is exceedingly anti-libertarian.God bless the millenials who are a-OK with government-licensed or government-proxy-licensed shadow organizations tracking them and erecting requirements that they participate in their own tracking. I look forward to the impending libertopia.
(or investigate further)
As a shareholder, I'm curious as to how you think a business would justify such a non-profit endeavor.
As a regular libertarian, I'm curious as to how you think a business would gain access to such protected information without government intervention.
As an older, cynical libertarian, I totally expect a solution composed of a network of doctors voluntarily working with businesses under a legal blanket of totally-anonymous cryptographic information-sharing automagic to be your explanation of the future of my outdated notions of libertarianism.
No, sorry. I refuse to get a jab of an as-yet experimental "vaccine" in order to go about my daily life. This is a virus with a 99.8 percent survival rate. It's not the zombie apocalypse, it's not even T.B. The yearly flu season is deadly as well, and when was the last time a business required a flu shot before entry? Businesses who refuse service because I'm not vaxxed are not operating within their "rights," they are neurotic.
Do you not get your flu shot every year?
Again, I dont understand this reasoning: if you want to make a stupid decision, go for it, but for God's sake bragging about it is stupid.
Untested ... this is one of the most rigorously tested vaccines ever.
"...Again, I dont understand this reasoning: if you want to make a stupid decision, go for it, but for God’s sake bragging about it is stupid..."
Let me make is very clear to you, since you seem to be a bit dense:
IT'S NONE OF YOUR DAMN BUSINESS.
Untested … this is one of the most rigorously tested vaccines ever.
Not even close. For decades, virtually every infant born here has gotten MMR, TDAP, etc. There have been likely thousands of longitudinal studies. None of the COVID vaccines has yet completed testing let alone gotten approval for infants.
Do you not get your flu shot every year?
No. In fact, one year that I did, I came down with a nasty flu bug that kicked the shit out of me for a solid month.
Untested … this is one of the most rigorously tested vaccines ever.
Well, that's a fucking lie--they didn't even start testing this on kids until about two months ago. It's officially not approved by the FDA--they granted an emergency waiver. The companies are exempt from liability if long-term effects set in.
Most vaccines take YEARS to get fully tested. And the reason for that is to watch for long-term effects. Flu shots have been around for decades. So have a lot of other vaccines. They went through years-long testing processes. Coronavirus vaccines have been notably tough to pin down and these versions aren't even sterilizing.
So no, this is not one of "the most rigorously tested viruses ever." The vaccinated for this are actually the beta testers, sort of like Cyberpunk getting released despite having a bunch of bugs that users end up reporting as they play the game.
"sort of like Cyberpunk getting released despite having a bunch of bugs that users end up reporting as they play the game."
I knew waiting until the GOTY Edition was the smart play!
Did it with New Vegas too, and I was like, "What game killing bugs?"

So wait for the collector’s edition of the covid vaccine.
What if the DLC sucks, though?
Working in the industry, I can tell you that the major reasons for vaccine development taking years has little to do with how long the trials are, but is mostly due to government red tape and infection rates.
Just to give an idea, there are 4 stages in the process. First is preclincal testing, this is the animal testing stage to determine if there is any sign of toxicity and if you are testing in an animal model, you can also get some idea of effective doses. Typically this is done first in mice or rats and then subsequently in dogs or primates.
Then you start the 3 phases of human testing. Phase I is for testing short-term safety, dose levels, and immune response. These are smaller trials and usually take 2-3 months to finish.
Then you get Phase II, which, for vaccines and other similar therapies, will continue to test safety and immune responses but in a larger, more diverse population (since this is usually done at multiple sites rather than just one, like in the previous phase). Here you start to look for proof of concept, but not efficacy. These take about 3-4 months.
Finally, you have Phase III, these are the large trials designed to prove efficacy to advance the vaccine to market. Typically this takes 6-9 months for the main study, typically with longer follow-up to assess long-term safety.
Now the issue is in the typical case is that these studies are done separately, so there is a good deal of time between the phases (and sometimes even within studies in the phases), mostly where you are dealing with a bunch of bureaucratic crap and preparing for the next round of studies. Add on top of this that you are not in a pandemic situation, so in the pivotal Phase III you need incredibly large sample sizes in order to ensure that enough people get exposed and infected to be able to compare the vaccine to placebo (or whatever the control is). This takes a good amount of time to recruit, both because of low infection rates, and low desire to be a part of a clinical trial.
However, what Operation Warp Speed did was allow for the planning and execution of these 3 phases of in-human trials to flow together. This was done in two ways, first, by allowing for conditional planning of later phase studies while earlier phases were still ongoing. And second, by combining some studies together, typically either Phase I and II studies, or Phase II and III studies. Essentially, these work by starting with a small sample, take a look at the data as you normally would for the earlier phase, and then expand the sample. This type of study is not unprecedented, and is often used in diseases that affect a small population.
So with no downtime between studies, combination of phases, and quick recruitment this really accelerates the timeline. Now, you are not wholly wrong that these vaccines are not as fully tested as others. Much of that is simply because other vaccines, like MMR, have been around for so long that we have tons of data on it. However, it is true that the Phase III trials are not complete and are in the long-term follow-up part of the trial. But I should tell you, having years working in this industry, you really don't tend to need these long-term follow-ups for most compounds, vaccine or otherwise, because the materials in them just don't stay in your body that long. Most drug-related adverse events are going to happen within less than a month of taking something, and with vaccines in particular, within a couple days, if not almost immediately (like anaphylaxis). The FDA usually wants these long-term follow-ups because they are so abundantly cautious, not because they actually have any worth.
So are the vaccinated, like me, beta testers? No, I would say those are the Phase III trial participants. We are more like gamma testers.
That all being said, I am a libertarian, you want to wait, wait, you want it now, go ahead, you don't want it ever, sure.
I do have to say though, it is really amusing to me to see so many self-proclaimed libertarians actually worrying about what the FDA thinks. The people who work there are almost the same as those at the DMV, they just have fancier degrees.
I do have to say though, it is really amusing to me to see so many self-proclaimed libertarians actually worrying about what the FDA thinks.
I'd say the fact that the companies are exempt from liability is a lot more worrisome than whether the FDA has formally signed off on it.

It's interesting that you go through this as though there was no chance of failing any portion of the trial, like it's all just paperwork and mRNA vaccines for other diseases hadn't failed multiple times between preclinical testing and phase III. And when I say 'interesting' I mean 'something between naive bullshit and propaganda'.
no, i don't get the yearly flu shot. historically they're at less than 20% success rate in guessing the strain. that nears rounding error status. if you or i were successful at our job at a rate like that we'd be fired. i'd sooner play a slot machine
for those who skipped statistics day in HS a 99.8% survival rate is a VERY high rate, and that rate is for the population as a whole. the infection rate among those under 15 is so low as to be inconsequential. the average number of CO-MORBIDITIES for deaths is 2.6. that means the obese, smokers, elderly and otherwise compromised are the VAST majority of the .2%
a vaccine testing of well less than a year cannot by any metric be called "rigorous".
science does not care what you think...
I refuse to get a jab of an as-yet experimental “vaccine” in order to go about my daily life.
Experimental's got nothing to do with it. It's (further) corrosion of habeas corpus, private property, and the presumption of innocence and relatively arbitrarily/selectively. The safety/efficacy of anti-retrovirals is pretty well established. Imagine telling everyone they need to start anti-retrovirals or carry around an HIV-free card.
Maybe not anti-Reason, tho.
Not any more anti-Reason than the WOD, sure.
There is no such implication. We don't have either mask or proof of vaccination requirements for the flu, measles or any of the hundreds of other contagious diseases that can kill or cripple you. Now that we're past the fear and uncertainty and have actual data about the disease (and vaccines), there is no reason why this one should be any different.
By implying that we must have one or the other, you are setting up a false dilemma. The right answer is neither.
Yeah, like I pointed out above. Imagine mandating anti-retrovirals or HIV-free passports because you never know who's a carrier and who's on the DL.
Scientifically speaking, there's less justification for COVID passports than there is for HIV-free passports.
Feel free to chuckle to yourself about gays in Stonewall getting denied access to "public" bars because they don't have their HIV-free cards.
Because the larger the unvaccinated population the higher the probability of new strains arising.
So those who are concerned about their own health should take precautions.
You're welcome.
Maybe you missed that this is a *novel* coronavirus? That's because there are several other strains of COVID that are endemic to humans. Being more clear, humans are/were already largely immune to coronaviruses, just not this mutation. For a few viruses, polio, smallpox, etc., you can eliminate the probability of mutation by eliminating the virus. For a multitude of others, CMV, Adenovirus, HPV, HSV, influenza, RSV, rhinovirus, etc. you can't eliminate the possibility of mutation without eliminating the virus, every last strain, from everyone.
Moreover, maybe you also missed that, auspiciously, this strain originated in a reservoir population of other mammals. So, not only would you have to vaccinate every human, you'd have to vaccinate every last mammal carrier as well.
Having missed both of those... uh... 'details' one might question your understanding of virology/infectious disease or, given the truly unprecedented ways in which the above information has been conveyed to you, your ability to grasp facts in general. Some horses when led to water, can't be made to drink. Others can't be made to drink while being blasted in the face with several fire hoses while standing in the rain.
I was going to correct the inclusion of 'mammal' in 'mammal carrier' as it's presumably redundant, but not guaranteed to be so. Then I realized that I'd be effectively starting a discussion about potential inter-genus virology with someone who understands it at about the same level as my 6-yr.-old. So fuck it.
5G, of course

UPDATE: If you are fully vaccinated against #COVID19, you can resume activities without wearing a mask or staying 6 feet apart, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal or territorial laws, incl. local business and workplace guidance. More:
Why worry about it? If you're vaccinated, you're fine. If you aren't vaccinated, well, it's on you to behave appropriately (or get vaccinated) - the non-vaccinated are putting pretty much only themselves at risk.
We're Americans/libertarians. One group of people telling another group of people "behave appropriately" is kinda our thing.
If the unvaccinated weren't behaving inappropriately before, then we question the necessity for the distinction and why the focus on undocumented/undocumentable vaccination states rather than the inappropriate behavior. We're nitpicky like that.
"...If you aren’t vaccinated, well, it’s on you to behave appropriately..."
Uh, no.
If you are concerned, it is up to YOU to behave appropriately.
"No dogs on the beach."
also,
"No shirt. No shoes. No service."
also,
"Don't cough on other people or blow your nose on their shirt."
If only there were a way to say "We reserve the right to refuse anyone service for any reason." and mean it.
“Don’t cough on other people or blow your nose on their shirt.”
Sarc, stupidity? Can't tell.
"Just behave appropriately"
Sarc, stupidity? Can't tell.
Bake the cake.
Heh, "I'd love to bake your cake, but really I shouldn't even have let you into the bakery without checking your HIV passport."
point made and taken
For what? You either ask or mind your own business.
Did you mean “what do mask police do”? Easy. They go fuck themselves.
The unvaccinated must wear yellow stars on the outside of their clothing at all times.
Gonna call sarc.
Key words being "except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance."
I've actually considered getting my vaccine card printed onto some t shirts, maybe along with this directive. They are not going to give up on this opportunity to signal virtue just like that; oh hell no.
Exactly, it is a meaningless statement from the CDC when they say fully vaccinated people can resume normal life, but oh wait, except where WE say it is still against the law and they are in no rush to rescind/limit mask mandates anytime soon (at least for the majority of the country).
Which is said since I've been told the (D)s are the party that follows science.... apparently unless it tells them something they don't want to hear.
It is likely a way to encourage more people to get jabs. At some point they can cross out the ‘except’ and will.
You sure about that? Haven’t met a government official who didn’t love power and fought tooth & nail to keep the power they have and or expand it.
Americans willfully and gleefully turned to the government and said “please protect me at any and all costs, even if you abridge any and all constitutional rights”.
Kudos for the optimistic view of government you have though.
There's not a constitutional right to be reckless with other people's lives and health, bub.
What do you not understand about the efficacy of the vaccines and the concept of voluntary assumption of risk?
Voluntary assumption of other people's risk, you mean.
It's like you people can't even conceptualize the existence of other humans besides yourself.
"Voluntary assumption of other people’s risk, you mean."
Cowardly lefty shits need to look after their own health. I don't.
They should crawl under a rock ad stay there.
The people at risk should conceptualize that none of the vaccines are 100% effective ranging from 66% to about 95%. And adjust their lifestyles as needed.
None of it. He understands none of it.
Reckless?
I am not legally required to take action to protect others.
Yes you are, in all sorts of circumstances.
I'd hate to think libertarianism is just what sociopaths do when they try to have political philosophies.
Tony, you used the word “misery” in reference to working for a living at least half a dozen times in the unemployment thread last week. That says a lot about you and your outlook on life, “bub”.
I’m thinking you should be more pitied than mocked at this point. What a way to go through life.
The thing is I have such a cushy job.
I don't mind trading labor for money. I mind being identified with my job, an artificial culture being imposed on me by people whose interest it is to keep me assuming my task in life is to work for them.
We get 80 years if we're lucky. Don't tell me we can't reimagine how we live or how we distribute resources. No wealthy person earned a damn thing. They were just born obsessive people with institutional privileges. Life is unfair, I get that, but don't try to turn around and sell me on the idea that it's fair in certain self-serving contexts.
The only sociopath here is you.
I'm actually rather empathic, which comes across to people as detached sometimes, because detachment is a defense mechanism for people who feel too deeply. Common mistake.
No Tony, progressivism, is what sociopaths do when they have to have political philosophies. Your masters are largely sociopathic. It’s also why so many democrats are sexual predators.
The fuck you aren't. That's why we have drunk driving laws.
Yep, a steaming pile of lefty shit like you would pick that, wouldn't you. Why not offer laws against murder?
Remind us again about why you don't provide cites; it's because you're too stupid to know what a "cite" is.
Eat a dick, lefty slave.
Good one!
Asshole gets one more flag.
And last I read the constitution I don’t remember there being a clause that suspends our rights on the edict of an executive order. Maybe your new 2020 revised version includes it but it’s not in the one that really matters.
The fact so many are willing to accept fiat rule by executives (both federal and state) is astonishing.
Hey faggot, turns we’re right ad you’re wrong.
As usual.
I really hope Biden weeds all the anti-American extremists like you out of our military.
If you're not Christian then why do you hate gays? Is it just because you're a fascist?
Do you live in the south? If not the south what rural shithole state do you call home? I'd like to alert DHS to your location...
Asshole is looking for a record number!
Karen
Hi KARen!
What’s up with your obsession over people’s locations? You ain’t goin nowhere anyway.
Haha. What a doosh.
Just curious...
Let me know if you're ever in the NW. Maybe we could be buddies???
Even if that's what happens, the camel's nose is already in the tent. China can continue to conduct progressively more aggressive rounds of aerosolized viral weapons research and the US can progressively more aggressively tell you to get vaccinated for it.
"Drink the damn koolaid!"
They actually drank flavor aid at Jonestown...
Why don't you answer my uncle and house questions?
And one more for the asshole!
Hi KARen!
Why don’t you stop asking stupid questions?
The only stupid question is the one that is not asked.
Sounds kinda smart, huh?
And if you are not fully vaccinated, you can do those things too.
Whatever you think about the vaccines or the wisdom of getting or not getting one, the CDC presuming to tell us what we can or cannot do is extremely offensive.
"RENT IS FOR SUCKERS" - CDC
Just to set the record straight on that, President Trump issued an executive order ordering the CDC to ban evictions. They didn’t come up with the idea on their own.
Bullshit. The EO specifically said that they floated the idea to the WH who then signed off on it.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the Department of Health and Human Services have concluded that “growing and disproportionate unemployment rates for some racial and ethnic minority groups during the COVID-19 pandemic may lead to greater risk of eviction and homelessness or sharing of housing.”
...
CDC has observed that “[h]omelessness poses multiple challenges that can exacerbate and amplify the spread of COVID-19. Homeless shelters are often crowded, making social distancing difficult. Many persons experiencing homelessness are older or have underlying medical conditions, placing them at higher risk for severe COVID-19-associated illness.”
...
The Secretary of Health and Human Services and the Director of CDC shall consider whether any measures temporarily halting residential evictions of any tenants for failure to pay rent are reasonably necessary to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 from one State or possession into any other State or possession.
I'm not trying to remove blame from Trump. But let's be clear how the sausage is made in DC.
Being factually inaccurate so she can blame Trump is how Dee sets the record straight.
Thanks. I stand corrected.
Somebody with integrity...
Oh so Trump didn't come up with the bad idea, he simply signed the papers and didn't review what he was signing.
Like he is the president guys. The buck stops with him. If something bad happened because he couldn't get the executive branch under his control, well, that is his fault. He could have started by not bashing his own staff on Twitter.
The lengths some of yall go to defend this asshole is incredible ...
To be fair, MP did say, “I’m not trying to remove blame from Trump.”
"...The lengths some of yall go to defend this asshole is incredible …"
The lengths TDS-addled steaming piles of lefty shit will go to blame him is not at all incredible; he's YOUR BOY: he owns a large part of your identity, at no cost to him at all!
Fuck off and die; give your dog a place to piss.
My doctor tells me to exercise more and get a colonoscopy. I don’t plan on either at least for now.
It is what they do. It is what public health is all about other than gathering data.
Well, I'm sure you can understand why it bothers me a lot more coming from a government official. The particular phrasing about what you CAN do now really irks me. Make recommendations, try to explain what the risks are if you choose to do one thing or another. But don't presume to tell us what to do as if people can't judge for themselves what risks they find acceptable. (This is addressed to the CDC, not to you).
Moreover, your doctor is telling you to do so for your own health when you visit him. He doesn't come on the TV at your local bar and tell everyone there you should get your colon checked out or everyone's grandma might die, or forbid you from charging rent because poor people are more likely to die of colon cancer.
the simpsons had an episode devoted to what would happen if the geeks took power...
A public health agency making statements on public health? Oh the humanity!
"Who cares if what they were saying was bullshit, it was a government agency stating this stuff. How dare you question our holy priests?!"
Right, just so long as it is "for our own good."
Do you always spread your legs so willingly? Asking for a friend...
That Narrative isn't going to push itself you know!
Don't need ID to vote, but you need certified paperwork to travel or even simply to show your face in public.
Seems legit.
No one's asking me for certified paperwork. Don't be panicking until there's something to actually panic about.
So says the squirrel who doesn't think that he should gather any nuts before winter.
Squirrels don't think about gathering nuts. They just do it.
Lefty shits don't know what a non-sequitur is.
Don't panic until the knife has fatally stabbed you in the heart.
Nothing screams support of liberty and free speech like, "Only the vanishingly narrow window between when you have standing and before it's moot is the appropriate point to complain."
In this day an age, the slippery slope is no longer a fallacy.
When the slope is 90deg, it doesn't matter if it is slippery.
It’s more of an analogy or a metaphor. Sometimes a comparison to a slippery slope (a physical patch of land on an incline with lubricating mud on top) is applicable, but when it isn’t, you should explain how the subject differs from what it is being compared to in regard to the aspects of each which are foundational to the argument at hand.
Did you major in pedantry?
What goes around, comes around. If you don’t act when a few of your neighbors’ rights are violated, yours might be next.

"No one’s asking me for certified paperwork..."
Just a tat, which lefty shits like you are happy to provide.
The airlines are, though, private entities, able to choose who they admit to their flights.
Biden has said that he won't pursue vaccine passports, and probably doesn't have the political capital to spend on them. His legislative agenda may be starting to wind down already, with the easiest to pass (covid free stuff bill) behind him.
Sure. But it's the TSA that extended the mask mandate until mid-September. Not the airlines.
Abolish the TSA!
But they have protected us from all those terrorists they caught!
(0)
The airlines are, though, private entities, able to choose who they admit to their flights.
Delta heard you and just decided to stop admitting black people. Are you totes OK with that?
What a maroon. Airlines are common carriers, they don't get to discriminate. That's why they make everyone wear the mask.
I know you have trouble with this concept, but people choose to wear a mask or not. They can't choose their skin color.
Just like you choose to go to a bigoted church. So being bigoted against mormons is not the same as hating non-christians, non-whites, and gays like your church does.
If anything it's righteous to be bigoted towards bigots like you.
F/R many times.
Shit he probably muted me. I'm trying to be less of a dick to him, but it's so hard! Mormons are just such bad people. It feels wrong to not be a huge asshole to them.
F/R many times +1
Speaking of maroons, airlines are certainly allowed to discriminate. They just can’t discriminate against protected classes.
They just can’t discriminate against protected classes.
Pedantry. I don't think anyone is afraid they are going to discriminate against ugly people.
If they discriminate based on a health condition they are in violation of the ADA, which absolutely applies to common carriers.
Did you know that maroon is an old timey slur that evolved etymologically similarly to the word nigger and negro from negro?
It originally cam from french marron, meaning brown. At some point it came to refer to escaped slaves in the french caribbean. From there it evolved to mean feral and wild before taking on the current meanings of shipwrecked/trapped on an island and the ethnic category of people descended from escaped slaves and tainos indians.
Another interesting aside is that in the early 1900s it was also a popular name for sports teams before bugs bunny changed the meaning again.
So we now go back to worrying about peanut butter, lawn darts and plastic straws in sea turtle noses?
And vaping. Don't forget vaping. Protect the children!
Gretchen Whitmer thanks you for reminding us of that. Until COVID she didn't have a better excuse for her petty tyranny than flavored vaping products.
+; I live in said State, but before the 'demic I barely even knew who she was.
I didn't know who she was. Now I wish I could forget.
She was supposed to fix the damn roads.
I'd hit that
Wearing it out, asshole...
yes, VAPING! now the CDC can get back to priorities
Don't remind them about the straws. They forgot about it, and I don't want to deal with that bs with Democrats in both houses.
Off topic: GOP House Bill to End Federal Cannabis Prohibition!
https://joyce.house.gov/press-releases/joyce-continues-to-lead-the-effort-to-responsibly-reform-outdated-federal-cannabis-policies
Buy weed stocks and be prepared to hold for a few years. You have to look for otc ("pink sheets") stocks for American companies, since they have been kept off of the major US exchanges.
There is no way this presidential term ends without federal cannabis legalization.
There is no way this presidential term ends without federal cannabis legalization.
Funny, most of us thought the same thing about the Trump administration. And before that it was the Obama administration. I really doubt politician-for-life Joe Biden is going to be the guy who finally does it. I'd love to be wrong about that, but I'm not. I'd put money on it.
I think ol' Joe would not veto almost any bipartisan bill. Especially one as popular as this.
Bipartisanship is more rare than ever, and any move against a popular, bipartisan bill would be seen (rightly) as divisive and counter to Dem rhetoric.
The congressional Dems would not sign on to it enough to pass. It is too useful for them as a campaign issue. But they'll pull an OPEC on that and miss that window too.
As far as "bipartisanship", when the Dems are trying to redefine bipartisanship to "we think people in both parties like what we want, but not what Republicans want" I think they would do the same to find some way of making it not bipartisan. Given Biden's stated opposition to it, I can easily see him finding something in it to hang his veto on.
Or at least his handlers would.
Wait, didn't Clinton inhale? Oh wait, he didn't inhale. He still got the pothead vote anyway.
"Dude didn't inhale, and he threw me in jail, but no way imma voting for Dole!"
I miss the "Roll/Hemp" bumper stickers from the 96 election.
Screw the asshole with Tony's dick
Hi KARen!
You can’t be this stupid, and old too. Haha.
How old are you?
I picture you as an early 20s woman, so I'm slightly older than you.
Not so old that we can't be friends. Platonically. Unless you like think otherwise?
Fucking creep.
They got right out on election Thursday and voted for Clinton! What? That was Tuesday? Oh man..........
Eh that's pretty lame dude.
Most Fascists aren't funny.
What's really bad is far righties who think they're funny but aren't.
Greg Gutfeld on Fox News is painful to watch. That guy has no fucking talent.
Again.
"Hello, John. How are you doing today? You mailed in my company a postcard a few weeks back, requesting information on penny stocks that had huge upside potential with very little downside risk. Does that ring a bell?
"Yeah, I may have sent something."
"Okay, great. The reason for the call today, John, is something just came across my desk, John. It is perhaps the best thing I've seen in the last six months. If you have 60 seconds, I'd like to share the idea with you. You got a minute?"
"Actually, I'm really very..."
"The name of the company, Doobie International. It is a cutting edge high-tech firm out of the Rocky Mountains, awaiting imminent patent approval on the next generation of hydroponic growers that have huge medical and civilian applications. Now, right now, John, the stock trades over-the-counter at 10 cents a share. And by the way, John, our analysts indicate it could go a heck of a lot higher than that. Your profit on a mere $20,000 investment could be upwards of $200,000!"
"Jesus! That's my mortgage, man."
"Exactly. You could pay off your mortgage."
"This stock will pay off my house?"
"John, one thing I can promise you, even in this market, is that I never ask my clients to judge me on my winners. I ask them to judge me on my losers, because I have so few. And in the case of Doobie, based on every technical factor out there, John, we are looking at a grand slam home run."
"Okay, let's do it. I'll do ten grand.
"$10,000? That'd be 100,000 shares, John. Let me lock in that trade right now and get back to you with my secretary with an exact confirmation. Sound good, John?"
"Yeah, sounds good."
"Great. Hey, John. Thank you for your vote of confidence and welcome to the Investor's Center."
Ha. Nice adaptation.
I don't normally get into pink sheets, but the situation with weed is a little different.
No need to wait for the series-7 licensed conman these days. It's pretty easy to get otc stocks now. I use TD and don't have to call anyone.
I don't do stocks, but I've been thinking about getting in to penny stocks mainly due to the relatively low risk it entails. If I invest $50 and take a loss, at least the hit isn't as bad, and I can spread it around a hell of a lot easier than if I was buying blue chips.
Let's face it, the guys actually making the big bux on the market are far more connected than we'll ever be, unless you're an autistic genius like Mike Burry.
When I got out of the Army and realized my 3/4 finished previous bachelors was not going to count for much more than electives, I went into Finance.
The entirety of the field, outside of some rather simple corporate finance stuff and understanding the concept of the time-value of money, is bullshit. All the portfolio balancing equations, supposed purpose and manner in which a market for investments work, all of it bullshit. And they tell you that while making you learn it! Not directly, but you'll be doing a giant excel book on balancing a portfolio using a Markowitz formula, and then in the next class you are studying the 27th HBS study that says that active stock picking is no better than a monkey and a dartboard.
So why the fuck do I have to make this giant excel book if the math underlying it gets us no better results than random noise? To justify the existence of the field and the government licenses required to practice it. And the guys on Wall Street are not outsmarting us, for the most part, they are out connecting us, as you said.
Went through the same thing in my finance classes. Learned the Black-Scholes equation for the sole purpose of learning portfolio valuation. You’re right, it was all bullshit.
Now that's funny!
A backwards, uneducated hick like you in school?
Haha good one!
Tiresome.
No shit, that's funny.
Black Scholes does have a little utility as everyone else has decided that's how to price options, and most anyone can sell covered calls in their IRA now. Not that I ever do the formula myself. It's all built into the trading software.
That’s not bullshit. That’s a result of game theory and economics. Your opponent can run the formula too. That doesn’t make it bullshit.
I understand what you mean. Competing parties can build ever better models that through ways of measuring correlation and assigning probability that could in theory get better results than random picking or indexing.
But the end result is typically no better than random, as evidenced by the Vanguard study showing at most 18% of fund managers beating index benchmarks over a 15 year period. And with index ETFs gaining so much popularity, they're even harder to beat now.
It's not really "no better than random". It's that everyone (except the suckers) is competing using similar and equally-effective methods. With everything else balanced out, the differences that remain are due to random chance. Beyond that, the prices of stock and other financial instruments tend towards the valuation given by these best methods - so none of them are better than the others. As long as you can count on the prices being set thus, you might as well skip the difficult math and throw darts at stock names - because they're all as good.
If you _did_ invent a better method of stock-picking and talked about it, soon everyone would be using it and you'd be back to random chance. If you managed to keep it secret, you might be doing better - but everyone would think you're just lucky. Eventually someone else would discover it, and then your "luck would run out".
I made 900% on MJNA and 250% on TOKE earlier this year.
I miss John. Hope he is doing ok.
Yeah, the place has been a lot less lively with him gone.
Pretty sure Red rocks muted me.
Oh well. At least I won't get called "hicklib faggot" anymore.
Hopefully he's dead
No, hopefully YOU die. In fact, you should kill yourself, just to what all the fuss is about. Then get back to us.
How would I get back to you if I'm dead?
I love that movie.
Why would an anti-drug warrior like you like a movie like that?
5-fer!
lol (D) will never legalize it.
Why not? They are all in the business of winning elections, and D's especially need the demographics that are most in favor of weed being legal.
"They are all in the business of winning elections, and D’s especially need the demographics that are most in favor of weed being legal."
That is precisely why. They need people to keep voting for them. It is not that different from Roe v. Wade, Planned Parenthood, Voter ID, or school choice for that matter. They serve the Party more as reason to keep people contained than for actually making substantive reductions in the power of government.
the Elites need the drug war and will still always get the votes on the promise of legalization
I guess only Nixon could go to China, but joe was dumber than Nixon even before he went senile.
>lol (D) will never legalize it.
Huh? What you are saying makes no sense. The majority of states that have legalized have a fully Democratic governor/legislature.
California
Colorado
District of Columbia
Illinois
Maine
Nevada
New Jersey
New Mexico
New York
Oregon
Vermont
Virginia
Washington
And 100% percent of states that legalized it via the legislature were Democratic-controlled (IL, NM, NY, VA, VT).
I invite you to compare that that to the list of fully Republican-controlled states that have legalized:
Alaska
Arizona
Montana
And look at what happened in South Dakota. The people voted for it and the Republicans political apparatus is blocking it.
Only when beaten with 2X4s:
"Gov. Jerry Brown on legalized marijuana: ‘How many people can get stoned and still have a great state?’"
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2014/03/02/gov-jerry-brown-on-legalized-marijuana-how-many-people-can-get-stoned-and-still-have-a-great-state/
What was the mood like at your 12 step meetings when Cali legalized it?
I know you're just going to f/r because you're too senile to mute me, but I'm genuinely curious what you losers thought?
What was the mood at your local bathhouse when they legalized it? Did they celebrate by serially spitroasting and fisting you?
I’m sure you offered.
What was the mood like at your Klan rally?
2-fer.
Kinda like snaking a sewage line in your house, except the asshole doesn't stink though the web.
I'm sure s/he does in contact.
Maine legalized via referendum with a sitting R governor. Though he did try to stop it based on the issue of taxing it while still federally illegal.
And in how many of those states was the law enacted by the legislature, and in how many was it done by vote?
Hint: All but one was done by the people
Will this proposed federal bill pre-empt the state legislation, like New Jersey’s, which create state sponsored cannabis cartels and impose taxes that the party in power then funnels to its most loyal constituencies? Man, I would love to see a federal law that kicks the legs out of the crony capitalist disaster our state just enacted and deprives Murphy and the Democrats of their “social equity excise fees.”
Off topic: Do not fill plastic bags with gasoline.
I don't have cable but would love to see the meltdown on CNN and MSNBC right now about how masks will save the world. Or perhaps they will celebrate and spin as Dementia Joe saving the world.
Those are on you tube TV if you can get that.
The point was they've done the job, just as everyone said they would until they're not needed anymore.
It was only the extremely stupid that talked about "sheep" and the "new normal" where we're all controlled somehow.
"It was only the extremely stupid" who claimed all this was just ducky, extremely stupid piece of lefty shit.
170,000 people died in the last 100 days wearing masks.
Since the vax it is what I have been doing anyway. I think pretty much all of us. Except where it is required like stores.
They have a way of coming up with these recommendations long after the rest of us have figured that out.
Basically. I mask on private property if required (mandates for businesses still), everywhere else no.
I am worried about my elderly parents who are anti vaxx. With reopening, they are going to face the consequences of their decision. We are not going to keep our kids out of their activities, nor are we going to put limitations on their visits with their grandparents, and so it seems they will likely become a vector at some point. I really wish retired people didn't have so much time and so little savvy to be brainwashed by facebook posts.
On a side note, the only thing the VA has ever done for me relatively friction free was get me the vaccine. If you are eligible for VA care, don't pass on it because of bad previous experiences with VA.
Yes, tell them to ignore Facebook posts and believe the government and science driven by The Narrative.
If you're not vaccinated, get vaccinated
Nope.
And it is people like you that will ensure we never reach herd immunity.
If that means people like you stay in the house forever and never come out, I'm not getting one either.
https://babylonbee.com/news/more-conservatives-deciding-not-to-get-vaccinated-after-learning-liberals-will-stay-away-from-them
Man the Bee has been on fire lately.
My one problem with the Bee is that the headlines are so good I don't need to read the articles. This is in contrast with most newspapers, where obviously the headline was written by an editor who either had not read or could not understand the article...
It's not his job to protect you.
And society should reflect that those who want something from it shouldn't get it unless they chip in.
Anti-vaxxers are just freeloaders is all. You want something for nothing. That should be very concerning for any self respecting libertarian.
ITT: naturally acquired resistance isn't a thing.
"I don't care if you've already had chicken pox as a kid, if you don't get a chicken pox vaccine, you're killing grandma!"
>>Anti-vaxxers are just freeloaders is all.
lol nice leap
Anti-vaxxers are just freeloaders is all.
How much did you pay for your vaccine, shitlunches?
Now do the half of the country that doesn't pay any taxes.
The fuck is this "logic"? Look, asstard, you want to force me into a yearly flu shot? How about a T.B. shot? How about smack that Big Mac outta my hand and the Coca-Cola too? How about taking away my car? Anything else you want me to do to assuage your neurotic, medieval fears?
"And society should reflect that those who want something from it shouldn’t get it unless they chip in..."
Want a real laugh?
This from a steaming pile of lefty shit who proposes those of us who are productive support parasitic pieces of shit like him!
I’m just pro “you take care of you.” If that is beyond your ability, may I suggest Cuomo assign you to a facility.
I’d be interested to know why you think someone should have to get a vaccine for a disease they’ve already beat.
Wait, no I’m not.
More than 35% of the U.S. population is fully vaccinated, according to CDC data, and over 46% of the population has gotten at least one dose.
46% are vaccinated, ~40% of the remaining are already recovered (+17%), and another 20% are children, a class of people that bear as much (and possibly less) infection/transmission risk as the vaccinated elderly. We're basically there.
I've been curious about the overlap. Percentage who recovered and were vaccinated. The total percentage with immunity must be lower.
Agree. Most places are near the point where they can reopen even superspreader-type events without risking shutting those back down with a ramp-up in cases. Say Memorial Day for those. Some states based on vaccination rates and actual medical risk. Others based on stupidity, stubbornness, and partisanship.
But the aggregate numbers/pattern - we're there now. Excess deaths dropped below the 5% excess marker in early April for the first time since mid-March 2020. And we're near normal by now.
Stuff your PANIC flag up your ass, stick first. And then fuck off and die.
And it is people like you who don't understand herd immunity that feed the fear and demonization.
"People like you will get the virus, and continue giving it to people forever!"
If this behavior was so risky, these people got the virus and got over it months ago. If they haven't gotten the virus yet, how can the behavior be risky?
How is it possible to not achieve herd immunity for a virus with negligible reinfection risk? Isn't the virus just going to circulate among the non-vaxxed until enough those folks have natural immunity that it doesn't really have anywhere to go?
I mean, it is an odd decision that people want to get their immunity via infection, rather than by vaccine, but the end result is the same. I remember a bit under a year ago, people were screaming their heads off trying to prevent herd immunity. Now, we have 60% vaxxed, and getting half of the non-vaxxed natural immunity is impossible?!
I mean, it is an odd decision that people want to get their immunity via infection, rather than by vaccine, but the end result is the same.
Unless you oppose not the vaccine itself, but the selective upheaval of government regulation (that still continues to kill people who need orphan and infant drugs), the up front government spending, the
reefervaccine madness campaign, the creeping fascims of 'private' businesses 'voluntarily observing' federal mandates/guidance...I omitted the part that bugs me the most: the inversion of reason surrounding borders and the presumption of innocence.
Pre/non-COVID: You're not from around here and may not understand our environment, customs, and laws or any laws at all for that matter (any more than we would understand/observe them in your country). Provide some semblance of evidence that you do.
Post-COVID: You're from around here and have been healthy and law-abiding all your life. Provide official documentation that you're not a carrier.
I already got Covid, so fuck off slaver.
Every time someone who doesn't get the vax gets Covid, we get a little bit closer to herd immunity, so your statement only makes sense if you believe that it will not spread among the unvaxxed. I am assuming that you're smart enough to know that prior infection offers better protection than the vax. The data is quite clear on that.
Herd immunity? We are already there.
"And it is people like you that will ensure we never reach herd immunity."
And it's lefty shits like you who crawl on your knees to beg.
The CDC is indeed saying this. It's right there on their front page. And all my friends are posting clips and graphics from the CDC saying this.
Gosh, was that the sound of Karen's head asploding?
Ok, I live in a State with a cunt for a governess [I'm sure you've guessed "witch" one by now] and I'm stopping at the liquor store on the way home, sans mask. I have a copy of today's CDC directive for any concerned Karens.
A private business can require you to wear a mask.
asshole flag!
Ha we've never done them here anyway. All the maskholes can fuck right off.
But they didn't say this two weeks ago, so I'm voting for fascists from here on out!
don't you vote (D) now?
Fascism is a big government project.
Perhaps, but that suggests there's such a thing as a small government project. That's just a euphemism for government shitting on poor people in order to host yacht parties for rich people. And it never, ever seems to mean locking fewer people up in cages, does it?
The core appeal of fascism is cultural and emotional. A sports game with higher stakes, and the opponent is "the Jews." Or "the Mexicans" or "the trans" or pick a scapegoat.
Do you ever wonder why you think all your problems are caused by marginalized people who don't have any power?
Tony, almost no one here thinks that. Stop being such a shit. Most people here would probably identify political elites as the biggest cause of most of our problems. Political elites are pretty much by definition the opposite of marginalized people.
So help me understand why a billionaire whose entire brand is "elite" and who served as the most powerful politician in the world is not a member of the "political elite."
The term "political elite" establishes a specific class of eliteness. Is Bill gates in the "athletic elite"? Is he in the "medical elite"?
When normal people use the term "political elite" they are referring to people in the ruling class who are seemingly untouchable. They look out for each other - even to those they disagree with. To say that Trump was a member of a class that railed against him (regardless of what one thinks about it or him) for the entirety of his campaign and tenure is simply absurd. He may have been elite in terms of wealth, but that did not and does not of its own make him part of the politically elite.
For that he'd have to be protected by the political elite. And none f us can make an honest claim that he was, or is. He could, theoretically, become part of it if a new political ruling class were established with him in it. But he is not currently a member of that class. He didn't rise to where he was/is by a career in politics. He needs that to be in the political elite, just as an athlete has to be an athlete to get into the athletic elite.
He was the president of the United States. He wants to be dictator. If he's not a member of the political elite, then we're not talking about anything.
Which wealthy politicians do you consider members of the political elite, and which wealthy politicians do you consider not members of the political elite? We can start there and see where this euphemism is really going.
When he was president, I'd say you kind of have to consider him part of the political elite. Despite the fact that most of that set hated the idea, they were stuck with it.
Now, not so much.
He and his hangers-on are counter-elites, and their presence represents a "disturbance in the elite ecosystem.
A traditionally-favored race/religion/class combination in America is now disfavored and underrepresented (relative to historic norms and its own expectations) within apolitical (and many political) power centers, and Trump et al are trying to co-opt that for their own ends.
But being oppressed carries a lot of cachet in this country, so the nomenklatura has embraced a convoluted theory that historical circumstances call themselves marginalized even though those that embrace their values and norms control nearly all aspects of civil society. And so we end up in our current weird, dumb state.
disturbance in the elite ecosystem
My typing skillz is whack:

Your TDS continues to amuse me.
Your boring everyone R turd! Stop boring everyone!
Asshole gets one more flag
Maybe he is. But I think that the rest of that elite, for the most part, really doesn't want him to be.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I have no problem saying that Trump is part of the problem too.
No shit.
So help me understand why a billionaire whose entire brand is “elite” and who served as the most powerful politician in the world is not a member of the “political elite.”
Do you consider Trump to be elite? If I told you I graduated from Trump's school would you consider me to be Ivy League? If I serve Trump-brand liquor, do you think 'top shelf'? If I said I was making a movie or TV show with Donald Trump as the host/star do you think 'legit Emmy' or 'daytime TV/reality TV Emmy'? At this point, Trump steaks is more synonymous with 'well done and lots of ketchup' than anything resembling well-prepared steak.
Hell, even for Hotels and Casinos the connotation is more 'obnoxious opulance' rather than anything actually resembling 'truly elite'. I'm not much of a golfer, I believe maybe his golf course(s?) are considered among some of the best.
Well if your dad gave you 2 million dollars at age 20 to "invest in real estate" then I would call you elite. Just because you ACT like trailer trash who won the lottery, even though those aren't your circumstances, doesn't change the fact that you are elite.
It's rare to see someone walk into a knife fight with a double-barreled shotgun pointed at themselves. You'd have to be in an elite class with Hunter Biden to walk out of such clusterfuck relatively unscathed.
Yeah, I mean obviously his "elite" shtick is the manifestation of some deep impenetrable fear. He's so mentally ill his brain should be studied by science. Most of us don't encounter that sort of delusion in our daily lives.
Nevertheless, the point I'm getting at is that when you're attacking "elites" as the source of all your problems, you actually mean "the Jews," whether you realize it or not. It's fascism. This is what fascism is. We should have caught on when Reagan was doing the same shit in a more humble package.
The only ways to get government out of the yacht party business are to shrink it to irrelevance or to maximize it to destroy all yachts.
Choices:
1. Yacht parties hosted by rich people without members of the government
2. Yacht parties hosted by rich people featuring members of the government
3. Yacht parties hosted by prominent members of the government featuring rich people
4. Yacht parties only feature members of the government, because only the state owns yachts
5. No yacht parties at all because the revolutionary vanguard has destroyed all trappings of the wealthy
I just think at some point you need to see just how absurdly large the yachts are getting, and take that to mean that perhaps resources are a bit inefficiently allocated.
I just think at some point you need to see just how absurdly large the yachts are getting
All those Insta-hoes need space to move around on the high seas while they're networking.
The biggest yachts are nothing compared to the fleets of warships that would sink them.
I was gonna say maybe if you summed linear feet the yachts would win, but if you start counting all the coast guard clippers, PT boats and RIBs that any member of the military sets up camp on, I'm not sure. Any other metric, displacement, speed, pounds of munitions... it's not even a contest.
Climate Warrior John Kerry had a huge (yuge?) yacht. He saved some money on it by registering it in Rhode Island even though it was a Mass boat. The carbon footprint of such a monster must also be yuge. Thankfully, we have John Kerry on top of the yuge yacht and climate change issues.
I'd amend No. 5. You aren't going to destroy all yachts, it's not a choice. They'll just get flagged out of another country and the yacht parties will take place, with or without members of *our* government in overt attendance, in places you've never heard of.
Sigh. You always start screaming at cats.
The most power fascists right now are in the White House and congress.
No, we cleansed the White House, but Congress does have a lot of them.
You can find them whining about the oppression of hygiene measures and the great existential threat of cancelling racist Dr. Seuss cartoons.
I'm only using the word "fascist" advisedly, with full awareness of the limitations of words. Don't ruin it by generalizing it to "any person I don't like." I'm assuming we agree on the terms here dude.
Don’t ruin it by generalizing it to “any person I don’t like.” I’m assuming we agree on the terms here dude.
I mean, you've been doing that for years.
If we're to agree on terms, you're going to have to come to grips with how thoroughly entwined the Wilsonian progressivism that undergirds the Democratic party of the past 120 years is with Mussolini's OG fascism.
You're on sturdier stuff equating Trump with Franco, but the former isn't nearly so ruthless, nor so competent.
My utopian vision of society doesn't fit any old labels. Democrats are most accurately labeled social democrats or something like that. Bt labels are just labels. If they don't support fascist and Wilsonian things, then I don't see why those labels are helpful.
No, we cleansed the White House
^ Totally not a fascist.
I’m only using the word “fascist” advisedly, with full awareness of the limitations of words.
I'll bite - what's your definition of "fascist?"
They literally turned the White House into a viral Hot Zone. It was literally cleansed of their disease.
I use fascism loosely to mean authoritarianism, ethnic nationalism, and a single policy hammer for all nails: exterminating undesirable people.
That the details don't matter is the point. There isn't even a religious underpinning to these politics. All that matters is that there ARE symbols, not what the symbols are. And it doesn't even matter that white supremacy has been one of the more popular aspects of fascist regimes. Plenty of African shitholes have had the same sorts of qualities. China is nominally communist but still justifies authoritarian rule by stoking anxieties about cultural loss.
The important point is not to look for concentration camps full of Jews, or even crisp uniforms and goose-stepping. You want to look for people living in the midst of a pandemic trying to overthrow governments because Dr. Seuss got canceled. Fascism is always about the stupid shit. It's clever about humans that way.
I use fascism loosely to mean authoritarianism, ethnic nationalism, and a single policy hammer for all nails: exterminating undesirable people.
Right. So, just like the people you're complaining about, you don't actually know what the word means.
Remember the "I know you are but what am I" thing?
You want to look for people living in the midst of a pandemic trying to overthrow governments because Dr. Seuss got canceled.
Those people should probably be
exterminatedcleansed from the country for being so authoritarian as to have disagreed with government authorities on the cultural place of a children's author.I don't want to see anyone killed, but you tell me how we are supposed to deal with militant Nazis. They're not the easiest people in the world to reeducate.
Fascism is the one true cancer in human culture. It pops up a lot because we evolved in small tribes and our brains still work that way. Our brains are socializing machines that tell us to instinctively fear people perceived as outside our tribe, whatever arbitrary distinctions that entails. It truly takes an evolved sensibility to get around this nature, and that means institutions, education, and guile. All the stuff libertarians want to eliminate.
I don’t want to see anyone killed, but you tell me how we are supposed to deal with militant Nazis.
Find some first and we can start discussing it.
Our brains are socializing machines that tell us to instinctively fear people perceived as outside our tribe, whatever arbitrary distinctions that entails.
Says the guy who calls his political enemies Nazis and says "I don't normally call for people to be exterminated, but . . . "
Fascism (/ˈfæʃɪzəm/) is a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism[1][2] characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition and strong regimentation of society and of the economy[3] which came to prominence in early 20th-century Europe.
“Authoritarian”… “Lockdown!”….check.
“Ultranationalist”… check.
“Dictatorial power”… “Lockdown!”…. check.
“strong regimentation of society and of the economy”… oh hell yes check.
You embrace the worst parts of fascism. I’m not one to quibble over definitions, so you’re close enough.
Anyway, the left has been embracing more and more censorship and opposition to free speech with each passing month.
Pro-tip: if you need censorship for your democracy to work, what you’re doing isn’t democracy.
What about people who aren’t “miserable” about going to work, or resentful of fucking “yacht parties”? Fascist or elite?
Get help dude.
Right? Why do lefties always assume that everyone hates rich people and wants to "redistribute" their wealth?
Most people don't care. They are busy building careers or businesses, raising families, taking care of people in their communities. And they do it in spite of massive government regulations and overreach (and would be better off without gov't, in fact), NOT in spite of the "elite" hogging resources.
Another hint, Tony, a lot of people are rich. It's just a matter of degree. Like, I hike a local mountain every weekend and am proud of the fact that I can do it in a certain amount of time. But I could care less about scaling Everest.
So you mean you're still voting for Democrats?
Oh yeah, the fascist Democrats who could barely agree on what to order for breakfast.
Not like those hippie dippie Republicans who haven't organized their entire party and platform around one narcissistic asshole and his whims.
>>one narcissistic asshole and his whims.
Fauci's more of a (D) pet
lol nice leap
my words against me. funny.
Not like those hippie dippie Republicans who haven’t organized their entire party and platform around one narcissistic asshole and his whims.
Now do Black Jesus.
Yes, the party that partners with large corporations to persecute its political enemies is the fascist one.
Keep making the lamest jokes in the world. I'm somehow comforted by the fact that fascists are never actually intelligent people.
I’m somehow comforted by the fact that fascists are never actually intelligent people.
You prove that maxim every single day.
I said fascists were stupid, but that's no excuse to be lazy with your word-fucking. You can't just say "I know you are but what am I." You have to be a little clever about how you project all your own terrible motives on marginalized people. Or maybe not. People don't need a lot of excuses to support genocide if they feel threatened enough.
Why you so mad? Did I strike a nerve?
You can’t just say “I know you are but what am I.”
With you that's actually the perfectly appropriate response northwards of 90-95% of the time.
" I’m somehow comforted by the fact that fascists are never actually intelligent people."
Which is why you have or will get bamboozled by the intelligent fascists. Many of the Fascists were quite intelligent. Wrong, but still intelligent.
I don't really know what "intelligent" means, and I suspect it's inadequate to the task of categorizing people's skills. A plumber who dropped out of high school knows more about plumbing than I do, even if he doesn't know as much about Kant. Who's more intelligent? I think it's relative to the subject at hand.
On the other hand, it seems that Einstein really did have more brain matter than average, so who knows.
And fascism is a means of exploiting the masses for their passions, so in theory a true psychopath could be intelligent and wield it for his ends, though even then he should know how fragile a fascist regime is.
No, my theory is that all true believers are actually invested in the made-up cultural distinctions they're willing to commit genocide over. There's simply no reason to be a fascist if you're an educated person. The regime is flimsy and the goals are pointless and cataclysmic. And Hitler and Stalin and most other despots were drug-addicted and mentally ill, not clever. Unfortunately it doesn't take a lot of smarts to run tanks over people.
There’s simply no reason to be a fascist if you’re an educated person.
Which is why T. S. Eliot, Ezra Pound, and W. B. Yeats were all fascists. Uneducated types.
Your party wants to control every aspect of the economy while leaving the capital in private hands, and has done so since FDR.
You are textbook definition fascist. And that’s not even taking into account all of your OTHER authoritarian impulses.
Go fuck shrike’s mother.
Problem with this CDC guidance is all the antivax covidiots will use this as cover to never wear a mask and they will keep covid spreading for years. They may even lie about being vaccinated.
Perhaps you'd prefer that police just summarily execute unvaccinated people?
Not unvaccinated people, just the ones who haven't gotten the coof shot. Bette Midler's already said she wants to kill unvacccinated kids with peanut allergies.
The irony is I've likely received more vaccinations and boosters in the last ten years than both these bitches have in the last 30.
Exactly. All those anti-vaxxers are going to spread germs everywhere. You should probably stay in your diswase bunker and never come out again. It's too risky.
She might catch a 24-hour cold or get sniffles from the pollen! The horror!
We have to do our best to make sure no one ever gets sick from anything ever again. The best immune system is a clean, pristine one that only relies on manufactured inoculations!
You sound like a guy with a bright future in the CDC.
Covid is not going away. No one has even remotely suggested that as a possibility even if everyone gets vaccinated.
I think early on, last March or so, the idiot Fauci and his CDC buddies actually believed that they could use contact tracing and quarantine to snuff out a disease with an up to two week gestation period and mostly mildly symptomatic carriers.
Test and Trace was always an idea so dumb that only government would try it.
"Problem with this CDC guidance is all the antivax covidiots will use this as cover to never wear a mask and they will keep covid spreading for years. They may even lie about being vaccinated."
Fuck off and die, cowardly piece of lefty shit.
Yeah, you don’t get to decide what others do. Welcome to adulthood.
Being skeptical of a particular vaccine doesn’t make you an anti-vaxer
Biden's handlers told the CDC to end its unscientific and unwarranted fear mongering mask mandate in order to reduce the well deserved criticism and blame away from Biden/CDC/Fauci (and onto state and local Democrats, some/many of whom will rescind their state/local mask mandate because they know the mandates are unscientific and unwarranted, but imposed them because Biden's CDC and Fauci repeatedly said so).
Every day that goes by Jay Inslee looks dumber and dumber for mask mandates outdoors while free states are open with no issues.
I'm sure New Jersey will be dropping all of its mask rules forthwith.
Fuck Phil Murphy.
I wouldn't surprised if that asshole demands the same segregation in restaurants that Cuomo does in stadiums.
Murphy’s running for re-election this year. Watch how fast the restrictions go away. And he’ll make it sound like it was his idea all along.
Sometimes democracy has its benefits.
"CDC Says Vaccinated People Don't Need To Wear Masks or Socially Distance At All"
Things are true or not regardless of what the CDC says about this or anything else.
Ken thinks he's smarter than the professionals at CDC.
Morons with performance anxiety, the biggest problem in the world.
BTW, abstinence, when practiced correctly, is still the most effective (including cost effective) way to prevent STDs. The science on that is settled.
It sounds like you're trying to justify your own lack of sexual experience to yourself.
I have no use for tautologies posing as hypotheses.
And it takes a small dick to demand a dick measuring contest.
Me, neither.
But why are you anti-science?
I'm not disagreeing with your insight that not having sex will prevent you from getting a sexually transmitted disease. I'm disagreeing that stating a tautology is interesting enough to be considered a scientific insight.
True statements of fact that, if embraced, reduce or completely eliminate social problems are worth considering. Especially when they’re very cheap.
I assume you’ll be embracing a social program focused on eliminating the misinformation and disinformation that makes people choose against their own self-interest.
Everyone being abstinent would certainly all but eradicate sexually transmitted disease.
Probably fix climate change too.
Almost everyone is smarter than the retards at the cdc
The dumbest, drunkest, most obnoxious redneck in the bar is behaving like an absolute genius when he makes fun of people for believing something just because some bureaucrat says so.
There's this thing called the appeal to authority fallacy, and it's survived thousands of years of radical scrutiny. It's also the logical fallacy to which libertarians, by temperament, should be least susceptible.
We might even define libertarians as people who scoff at the idea that government experts should make our choices for us on our behalf because they're smarter or know more than we do. I've seen better definitions of a libertarian, but I've seen worse.
And Tony is dumber than the dumbest guy at the bar. Just sayin
There's no point in discussing this with a 100% zero risk proponent.
“The dumbest, drunkest, most obnoxious redneck in the bar is behaving like an absolute genius when he makes fun of people for believing something just because some bureaucrat says so.”
Congrats
I could not pack so many logical fallacies and hyperbole into one sentence on my best day.
There isn't a logical fallacy in there anywhere. In fact, it's exposing a logical fallacy. This one specifically:
https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/appeal-to-authority
Damage has been done. One day there will be a serious virus that takes out more than 90 year olds. And no one will respond to these CDC a**clowns cause of their nonsense here
CDC Director Rochelle Walensky explained that except in a few special circumstances, vaccinated people can resume normal life completely.
Then, with a hearty laugh, she blurted "April Fool!"
Honestly, the CDC being 6 weeks behind everyone else sound perfectly plausible.
Created an account JUST to reply to this.
I live in California. Tuesday Newsome said all mask mandates would be revoked on June 15 for everyone (with very rare exceptions where people from all over the world would gather) everywhere.
On Wednesday he started saying that the indoor ones would remain.
Kafka would be proud.
As would tin-pot dictators everywhere. We can hope this might lead to his recall.
He won't be recalled. And if he is, nobody better will be elected, this state is impossible for someone outside the D part fold and the only name you ever hear as a "republican" in the press is Jenner, to detract from anyone serious.
But that isn't the point. We had to force his hand. His policies effectively drove small businesses under while supporting the bigs last spring, and when he changed the rules on a whim in December he made it so all those small businesses like restaurants that invested in winter outdoor setups were going to go bankrupt, too.
The recall got him scared. Scared enough to jump the gun on relaxing the December "lockdown" early, for instance. And I put that in quotes because nobody where I live listened to him. Before his capricious diktats they tried to follow rules with outdoor dining, for instance, but after they put signs out in front of their stores and restaurants calling it a "peaceful protest" or saying "Welcome to the French Laundry" and opened for business inside and out. But he only sees San Francisco and Napa. So the rest of the state put a burr under his saddle to get his attention.
So the recall served a purpose, even if he won't get ousted. Not that he'd get my vote. He was bad enough when he couldn't keep the lights on, and I have plenty of gripes about his handling of the last year. The French Laundry incident was icing on the cake.
But after the comments about people signing the recall petition being conspiracy theorists, anti-vaccers, insurrectionists, racists, etc engaged in an armed coup... well lots of us went out and signed after that. I'd vote for Jenner, Cox, or anyone else first. Hell, I'd vote for that porn star that ran when Gray Davis was getting ousted before I'd vote for Newsome again.
What has changed in the last 3-4 months is that the media is NOT emphasizing the number of deaths from the Wuhan virus anymore. They are talking total cases. I have to conclude that deaths have plummeted a lot, again leading to the conclusion - why are we not free to resume our normal lives? If fewer are dying, what is the problem? Answer- the problem is political, not medical. Still political, just like May 2020.
Yep... The 7-day average daily deaths for May 12th is 644. That's down over 80% from the peak of ~3400 back in January.
Yes - and when even cases started plummeting, the media started focusing on worldwide cases instead of US. You can see it on the Washington Post, where they switch their frontpage graph to whichever stat is most alarming. You would think from the news that everyone in India died of 'rona, but they're 109th in deaths per capita - behind tiny island nations like Martinique.
It's why people who watch the MOST news are the LEAST informed about this virus.
Yes excess deaths have been dropping. Not just the last couple weeks where it takes time for deaths to be recorded and paperwork to make its way up to the level where the totals get aggregated.
The reason the media is not reporting on excess deaths now is because - there aren't many now whereas there were about 25,000 excess deaths per week in January - 82,000 deaths per week v a 'normal January' where there are 61,000 or so.
The research that supports this policy change didn't come from any health outcome data. It came from the recent UCLA Health and Politics study, which said that allowing vaccinated people to stop wearing face diapers and resume their normal lives would sway an additional 25% of the unvaccinated to get a vaccine.
It came from the recent UCLA Health and Politics study, which said that allowing vaccinated people to stop wearing face diapers and resume their normal lives would sway an additional 25% of the unvaccinated to get a vaccine.
Well, yeah, it was obvious that was the motivation--what's the point of getting a shot if you still have to wear the face diaper?
Watch the Maskthulians take one of two routes:
1) "The Science Says that masks aren't needed anymore. It doesn't matter that this isn't consistent with what The Science Said for the last four months, The Science is always right!"
2) "I'm going to continue wearing my mask indefinitely because I haven't gotten sick or gotten allergies in the last year. Plus, even if you're vaccinated you can still get sick if you don't wear a mask."
Most will start off with 2), but peer pressure and social conformity will eventually lead them to 1).
I was and still am convinced that masks have a beneficial role in reducing covid transmission. That being said, I do not want masks (or Covid, if that can be helped) becoming part of "the new normal". And think that mask mandates are completely inappropriate now, even outside of a libertarian lens, that vaccines are available for essentially all.
I have been out and about as if covid never was lately, and got my first cold in two years as a reward. Don't know if I'm a big baby now from not getting sick for so long, or this was a bad strain, but it has really knocked me out.
Avoiding colds is not worth wearing a mask all the time though. Although I would not mind if the habit of wearing a mask when you are sick caught on, like in Japan.
"I was and still am convinced that masks have a beneficial role in reducing covid transmission..."
Goody for you. Wear one and STFU.
Do you mask up at your loser 12 step meetings?
One more flag for the asshole.
That being said, I do not want masks (or Covid, if that can be helped) becoming part of “the new normal”.
A lot of people who have been wearing masks honestly don't. The ones I'm worried about are those who have been massively traumatized by the prospect of their own mortality, and that they might make up a large portion of our society who actually control the public narrative.
You forgot 3) "I wear a mask to prove I'm not a Trumptard."
You can find plenty of videos of vaccinated Branch Covidians making this exact statement.
"Branch Covidians" genius!
I'm gonna steal that.
I learned that they are actually good for allergies. When I groom my horse or dog it is incredibly helpful in reducing symptoms and duration. After realizing this I aso started using it when lawn mowing and weed whacking.
To prevent corona and the flu, meh, I'll pass. Chances of getting those is too low to deal with the annoyance.
You mean the CDC is granting us full privileges?
Some of the comments online from the far left maskholes are hilarious. They really wanted their lockdowns and mask wearing to continue. I say those that really want it bad keep doing it. Maybe there's a small corner of the country we can put them in.
We've been saying this for the past year plus. I think today's reaction from the left proved us correct.
Its another way for them to show their virtue, these people are sick in the head.
See Tony up thread.
The science has changed?
It is now political science.
Always has been.
Someone got taken behind the woodshed recently.
Hopefully both parties were masked. Even if in a lean-to.
I'm getting more of an Atlas Shrugged feel from all of this more than 1984.
CDC = Ministry of Health
Most of Biden's economic policy = Anti-Dog -Eat -Dog
And the general populace were complete morons in AS. Dumbed down by handouts and no incentive.
Which seems like what we have now.
Also, the graphic layout of the image from the White House reminds me a bit of 'Max Headroom' from the '80's.
It makes me wonder if CDC Director Rochelle Walensky is there of her own volition, or a hostage.
Can we agree on the following: (a) Unvaccinated people don't have a right to put others at risk. (b) Large pools of sick people have significant external costs -- like increasing the probability of variants not to mention burden on the healthcare system that (whether you like it or not) we all pay for to some extent. (c) It's going to be some time before children and adolescents under 16 can be vaccinated. (d) Unless you want to brand unvaccinated people with a scarlet letter, there is no practical way to enforce a masking policy for the unvaccinated only. These are the things that have to be evaluated to determine whether some form of mask-mandate makes sense. And that's a decision properly made by government.
No we can't agree with any of that. What would you say the effectiveness of the vaccine is? I've heard some numbers
Can we agree on the following
LOL, consensus through passive-voiced question-begging isn't how things work around here, bucko.
The bit about children tells me that this is a 100% zero risk advocate. There is no discussing this with these people.
Nah. I "follow the science", meaning my opinion generally tracks the scientific mainstream, and I disagree with ongoing mask mandates. Vaccines are available for anyone inside the US over the age of 16. It is a personal choice to leave yourself vulnerable to covid at this point in time.
I wouldn't mind people having to "opt out" of using emergency room care for covid symptoms if they decline the vaccine, though.
Masks are for protecting other people!!!
Why can't you people understand the most basic thing about the concept that other people exist? It's truly crazy.
Tony's lost his mind. He's one of the maskholes who cannot conceive of losing power this way.
“ Masks are for protecting other people!!!”
So is abstinence.
Why can’t you people get over your own selfish orgasms and think of someone else?
Sweet Tony’s logic just proved leftists are in fact in favor of a strong 2nd amendment.
My gun is for protecting other people (my family) so why can’t you understand that and leave my guns alone?
Go back to your basement clean room Tony until you feel there is 0% chance you face any risk in life.
Tony thinks working for a living is “misery”, so lockdowns and free money from the government worked great for him.
He’s losing it.
If we respect the 2nd amendment the way you want, you will have a gun for your purposes, but so will the bipolar loon next door.
This kind of phenomenon is known as an arms race. We all end up in a similar relative situation, just with more firepower between us.
It's an arms race metaphorically when referring to peacock feathers, but in this case it's a literal arms race. Nobody would need nukes if nobody else had nukes. The same logic applies. Your family would be safer if neither you nor the nearest psychopath had a gun. Not to mention your kid couldn't accidentally shoot himself in the head.
Because those other people can and should get the vaccine.
The situation has changed. The vaccine is available to anyone.
If someone is still at risk today from a vaccinated but unmasked person, then that person has chosen to not take the vaccine or is in an extreme risk category for basically any infection.
Responsibility has shifted completely to those at risk to take their own precautions.
A do not treat for covid order for those who willingly do not get vaccinated would be a fair compromise in libertopia.
"Because those other people can and should get the vaccine."
Thank you for stating *your* opinion regarding an issue which is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.
Is that clear?
"Why can’t you people understand the most basic thing about the concept that other people exist?"
There's an obvious lesson to be found in the hypocrisy here; shitstain claims to be foundationaly concerned with 'other people', and yet his concern is quite obviously not in protecting the freedoms of those 'other people'.
Nope; it is quite obvious that his interest lies in controlling the activities of those 'other people'.
IOWs, he truly is a steaming pile of lefty shit.
We can agree that cowardly shits should look after their own health.
No to all.
Some of these might make sense if hospitals are completely full. They are not. So mind your own business. If you don’t want to get Covid, protect yourself however you wish.
What about the increased probably of variants?
"probability"
"bullshit"
What about the possibility of an asteroid strike?
What about the bogeyman?
We lost the chance to eliminate mutations over a year ago.
This virus mutates roughly every 20 transmission events. Or once every couple of weeks. So - every country where the virus spreads for more than a couple weeks has its own mutation now as well. There are hundreds of these strains now.
(a) Debatable. Maybe for a much more deadly pandemic than what we currently have.
(b) You are right about the probably of variants.
(c) The Pfizer is already down to be approved for those 12 and older.
Exactly why gays should be forced by government to abstain from anal sex, or at least mandated to wear condoms.
Right?
Fucking finally. This was obvious for a month. Dunno what took them so long.
The jobs report just came out the other day.
What about those of us presumably immune from having had the 'rona and recovered? Everything i read that says "why you still NEED the vaccine even if you've had covid" makes no such case, and the argument basically boils down to "well..like 4 people who had covid got it again, so you should get the vaccine which also is 100% effective just to be super duper sure!".
I have seen nothing that argues vaccine immunity is any better (or worse) than immunity from having the disease. If that is true, why should i get a shot that will make me feel like crap for two days so i can end up in the same place i started (immune to the rona) ?
I am not against the vaccine. If i hadn't already had the virus i would want one, but as i have said there does not appear to be a compelling reason to get it if i've already gotten the bug. Have i missed something?
They're making shit up as they go along.
Meanwhile, it's looking like the Keebler Elf is likely partly responsible for his mess.
Holy shit, you haven't been here in ages (unless you've been in other threads. I don't read everything on this site)!
I'm pretty sure you muted me, but I'm sorry for calling you a traitor.
You seemed to have moved on from Trump.
"CDC Says Vaccinated People Don't Need To Wear Masks or Socially Distance At All"
5 hours ago:
"Newsom said the outdoor mask mandate will be lifted June 15 if cases and hospitalizations continue to drop and some guidelines will remain for indoor locations..."
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/newsom-says-more-about-changes-to-californias-mask-mandate/ar-BB1gHIR1
You think grease-ball tin-pot dictators like Newsom and Cuomo are gonna just let go of their "emergency powers"?
Have you been doing your 12 step meetings over zoom?
Alot of those losers don't have internet or phones so I wonder how that works.
Asshole's getting a bunch of flags.
The left says "Vaccines work", "believe in science", and that trump's biggest failure was in "ignoring the experts, especially the CDC".
Now the CDC says that the science shows that vaccines work and half the leftists I know are somewhere between mourning and denial. Some are seeming to be more afraid now that non-vaccinated people might take advantage and go around unmasked as well (which is really only endangering non-vaccinated adults who those same leftists insist are sociopaths and "Q-Anon extremists" for choosing to be vaccinated).
I can't help but wonder if they're unable to accept a solution that doesn't include the masses being forced to comply with some form of government mandate (and the higher the level of government, the better).
Don't worry, everyone. They just needed something to take everyone's eyes off the Colonial Pipeline and the shitastic jobs report.
There will be a new variant next month and everything will be back to the New Normal.
Idiots.
And you're an idiot if you're still in a mask and an imbecile to think they work.
14 months of stupid hysteria.
These very useful tips and helped me to solve out my current problems, Thank you writer. Stay Safe, Stay Healthy

Enjoy your experimental gene therapy. The rest of us are busy planning the new society after the next variant wipes out most of you because your corrupted immune systems won't know how to fight it. The third wave is going to be interesting!
To be clear, I didn't start masking because of the pandemic. I started because the Commonwealth of Virginia required it.
Now, would someone, please, tell Governor Blackface about this?
local officials should end most pandemic restrictions immediately.
Boston, May14, 2022 In an unexpected move today, Governor Charlie Baker has declared that following CDC guidelines announced last year, the Commonwealth's mask mandate has been dropped for businesses employ 1 person or fewer.
Great! No more masks saying: "God Is Good!" or 2 (Two) Corinthians 5:7 "We walk by faith, not by sight!"
No more masks saying: "We're All In This Together and Apart!" and sporting anything like tie-dye over Hipster beards!
No more Jailhouse Paralegals saying: "Masks are tyranny and I'll sic the Americans With Disabilities Act Jackboots on your private business if you politely ask me to wear one!"
No more Antifa and Burn Loot Murderers spreading a biological layer of destruction on top of a conventional layer of destruction!
No more cognitive dissonance among Trumpsters denying the reality of COVID-19 and praising Operation Warp Speed all at the same time!
No more "get-paid-to-exist" checks...or at least none with the pretext of the pandemic, with all laziness and worthlessness made plain for all to see!
And finally, no more excuses for libertarians to not find better hills to fight on and hopefully live on as well!
Oh, and I forgot: I can now go from social distancing at 6 feet or more to prevent viral spread back to my old anti-social distancing at 6 feet or more to make thugs have to work for their prey.
He didn't arrive at that opinion by doing scientific research.
I don't know who you're responding to, but the idea that things are true or not regardless of what anybody says about them shouldn't require any further qualification.
The sun was orbiting the earth for eons before Galileo said so, and if he'd said it was the other way around, he'd have been wrong. The earth orbits the sun--no matter what the CDC says about it, too.
And everyone who thinks things are true or not--just because the CDC says something--is being stupid in a very specific way.

They've still only partially updated their indoor / outdoor activity guide:

A week ago it had the unvaxxed making up for everything.
SARS 2003 infections in Taiwan gave immunity to SARS-COV 17 YEARS later. 24M pop and 12 deaths from covid.
Naturally immune should have been freed from Contagion Theater from the start...
Just wanted to say, "Thanks!" I've really enjoyed reading your posts on this subject, Dizzle.
Absolutely re: immune memory. An immune response to the entire viral signature is known to provide longer memory, as is the case when you receive a live virus vaccination:
"Because these vaccines are so similar to the natural infection that they help prevent, they create a strong and long-lasting immune response."
Compare that to recombinant vaccines: "Subunit, recombinant, polysaccharide, and conjugate vaccines use specific pieces of the germ—like its protein...One limitation of these vaccines is that you may need booster shots to get ongoing protection against diseases."
Your best defense against this virus is to have had it beforehand (and survived, obviously).
Even better.
Driving is more dangerous, too.
Nor did the CDC, their protestations notwithstanding. The Biden admin gets taken to task by the public and normally friendly elements of the prestige media over their overly conservative outdoor masking guidance, and the next thing you know the CDC is dropping indoor masking? Surely there's no political factors at play there.
Obviously there are political factors at play. It's government.
The most efficient thing would have been for government to force everyone but essential workers to stay in their homes for a month in March 2020. The only reasons they didn't were political.
You should be scared when government stops responding to political forces.
Your logical fallacy is "I'm right because I say so on the internet."
Your claim is that how a novel virus works is as simple a matter as knowing that the earth has less mass than the sun.
The fact is there is no reason to think that vaccinated people can't participate in further spread of the virus. Maybe the risk is very low, maybe it's not, but it's not obvious.
We should all be free to make our own decisions pertaining to our personal health, hygiene and safety, regardless of the extent to which we may voluntarily harm ourselves.
My body, my choice. Fuck the tyrants.
You mean all 8 people in the US that were confirmed with SARS-2003? Yeah, I'm sure they would have appreciated the freedom.
The most efficient thing to do would have been to nuke Wuhan on New Year's Eve and shoot every plane from China out of the skies. I doubt that would have been the most effective thing, all else considered.
"The most efficient thing would have been for government to force everyone but essential workers to stay in their homes for a month in March 2020"
What would this have done except delay the inevitable? Better to expose most people and provide therapeutics.
Oh, I forgot:
"forcible suppression of opposition".... weren't you discussing how we should put Republicans on trial for their crime of disagreeing with you on climate policy?
If it walks like a duck, and it talks like a duck...
Well, nevermind. I see that they have now:
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/pdfs/choosingSaferAct.pdf
Not a novel virus
See, now you're thinking like a robot.
A virus that doesn't spread to anyone causes much less death than a virus that is encouraged to spread to everyone.
That little science lesson will cost you $5.
Lefty shits like you are more than willing to sacrifice the freedom of others.
Shitstain is jealous; it's "thinking".
Actually there is; having COVID may increase your immune response, but you are not truly immune. The vaccine [regardless of how you think about it] is still your best bet to not get it, or get it again.
