Australia's borders have been closed since March 2020 in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19, and Health Minister Greg Hunt says he can't guarantee the borders will reopen, even if the entire country gets vaccinated against the disease. "We still have to look at a series of different factors: transmission, longevity [of vaccine protection] and the global impact, and those are factors which the world is learning about," he said during a press conference. Some 36,000 Australians remained trapped overseas because of the border shutdown.

Two things:

1) Foster's is an export brand; no one drinks it in Australia (there may be exceptions but they don't count because they're un-Australian). Toohey's is a NSW brand; you can get it in other states but, you'd be surprised how parochial we are when it comes to beer. I'm from Victoria so, I generally drink Victoria Bitter or Carlton Draught.

2) Greg Hunt is a politician so, he'll only drink beer when he's pretending to be a man of the people. Pollies here usually prefer to drink wine, like chardonnay or shiraz (syrah to you Yanks). Occasionally, they'll drink spirits but, only when someone else is picking up the tab.

I believe he's stepping on Dr. Fauci's lines. Fauci's only up to the Stage 4 lies, that the numbers have to be lower before we can safely re-open, and hasn't yet announced that the number has to be zero and every single person in the country has to be vaccinated before we can safely re-open, let alone saying that even then we still can't safely re-open. Maybe it's the time difference between Australia and the US - isn't it already tomorrow in Australia?

Aussies stuck in other nations, who get deported from there? They will be forced to forage for grasses and shrubs to eat, in stateless areas, such as the DMZ between North and South Korea, or, for another example, in a long, skinny concentration camp between rows of walls on the USA-Mexico border. Will this lockdown theater [and I call it that because it is as much if not more about virtue than virus] go so severe and so long and require an absurd level of risk aversion, that finally enough of us rebel against it [and the overreaching governments behind it]?

And we will no doubt "hit a wall" at a point in the very near future; this will occur where everyone who WANTS to be vaccinated is, but around 30% will refuse; will that necessitate that we remain arbitrarily on shut down indefinitely? I also realize there are citizens who love showing that "they are on the side of science" and "progressively minded" who wouldn't mind if this went on forever, as well as authoritarians like Whitmer who seem to get off on ever increasing amount of power and the ability to stymie fundamental rights.

If this does result in a general rediscovery of what matters to us and that we cannot take fundamental freedoms for granted, and perhaps a house cleaning of politicians who seem to thrive on squelching those freedoms, that might not be such a bad thing.

It's why they have to keep the fear porn going with the virus variants. They have to somehow convince people with a near-perfect vaccine that they still have something to fear from the virus.

If rational viewpoints can reach voters, voters will ultimately put the kibosh on this. Australia will have an election no more than 13 months from now. At some point, politicians will start feeling the heat.
