Congressional Democrats Want To Vote Themselves Into a Supreme Court Majority
Plus: U.S. will finally withdraw troops from Afghanistan, Mastercard caves to religious groups on porn, and more...

New legislation to be introduced in both the House and Senate today would add four justices to the U.S. Supreme Court. If successful, this would bring the number of Supreme Court justices to 13.
"The number of justices on the court, which is set by Congress, has fluctuated throughout the course of the nation's history, reaching as many as 10 seats before settling on nine in 1869," notes The Intercept. So, it would be perfectly legal, and not unheard of, for Congress to shift the number of justices.
And yet…a Democratic-controlled legislature doing so at a time when conservative justices outnumber liberal justices 6–3 seems—and adding not one or two more spots but enough justices to see that, if appointed under President Joe Biden, liberals would once again hold a Supreme Court majority—smacks of partisan politics, not fulfilling legitimate legal needs.
The Senate bill will be introduced by Sen. Ed Markey (D–Mass.) and the House bill is backed by Reps. Jerry Nadler (D–N.Y.), Hank Johnson (D–Ga.), and Mondaire Jones (D–N.Y.). As a reason why, Jones cited cases that were decided in ways he didn't like.
They're slated to hold a press conference about the effort on Thursday morning.
"But there's little chance the bill will make headway," notes The Wall Street Journal.
Republicans are united in opposition to a plan that would undo the conservative majority on the Supreme Court, and even many Democrats critical of the court are reluctant to prejudge the issue while Mr. Biden's commission is at work.
Moreover, some liberal-leaning scholars and jurists, including Justice Stephen Breyer, have suggested that altering the court's makeup for ideological reasons would damage its reputation as an apolitical body.
Mr. Markey disagreed, arguing that adding four justices—thus allowing President Biden to create a 7-6 liberal majority—"will shore up the public's confidence in the court and its legitimacy in the public's eyes."

U.S. will finally withdraw troops from Afghanistan. Biden announced on Wednesday that, after nearly two decades, it is "time to end the forever war" in Afghanistan. "War in Afghanistan was never meant to be a multigenerational undertaking," Biden said. From The New York Times:
Speaking from the same spot in the White House where President George W. Bush ordered the start of the war after the Sept. 11 attacks nearly two decades ago, Mr. Biden made a case that there was no longer any justification — if there ever was — to believe that the United States military presence could turn Afghanistan into a stable democracy.
The roughly 2,500 American troops on the ground there, he said, would be gradually withdrawn starting on May 1, with the process complete by Sept. 11, a timetable intended to signal his determination to end a vexing and largely failed chapter in American foreign policy.
Military officials suggested the exit could be even more rapid, leaving only a token guard force for the American Embassy. NATO forces, which today have a far larger presence than the United States, would also depart, European officials said.

Mastercard caves to anti-porn groups. Under pressure from religious groups, Mastercard is tightening the screws on adult businesses. In order for Mastercard to be used in interactions with online adult businesses, it will now require those businesses to have identity verification on all content creators, review all content prior to publication, and enact a slew of other specific content moderation processes. Since these rules go way beyond what is required of Facebook and other social media sites—which have been found to have a way bigger problem with criminal sexual content than, say, Pornhub—this is clearly more of a political move than anything else.
If your OnlyFans subscribers use MasterCard, you're about to be officially classified as a "seller of adult content" and subject to an entire new set of obligations and regulations, which are being called "a huge" victory by religious anti-porn groups and politicians: https://t.co/Og1taMSNNV

Mastercard and other credit companies have been under pressure from anti-porn religious groups (such as Exodus Cry) and others to stop doing any business with Pornhub, OnlyFans, and other purveyors of online adult content, much like they were pressured to stop doing business with Backpage and Craigslist a few years ago.

If successful, this would bring the number of Supreme Court justices to 13.
Lucky number for checks and balances.
Don’t worry. SleepyJoe says he doesn’t believe in a packed court.
If he sticks to his position, this may be what they invoke the 25th over.
On the other hand, he could have another 'what am I signing?' moment.

Joe Biden won the first presidential debate BECAUSE Trump had spent myriad months lying about Biden's mental status, claiming Biden has dementia, that he can't finish a sentence, and that he has to take "performance enhancement" drugs to prepare for public speaking events. In a very nonsensical maneuver, Trump insisted they do a drug test in advance of debate 1.
(What would they test for? Caffeine and nicotine? It's not as if meth has a reputation for turning people brilliant and articulate.)
So everyone, including Trump State Media, was expecting Biden to be slow-thinking, drooling, and no match for Trump.
When viewers saw that Biden was calm, collected, and capable of expressing himself in entire paragraphs -- while Trump was his usually bombastic-buffoon self who could not abide by the debate rules he had agreed to -- Biden overwhelmingly came across as winning.
I believe he said he does not eat popcorn.
He does not eat Corn Pop.

Wow who knew you fascists would like a show like the Simpsons.

No I don't!

Haha. The simpsons. Hockey. “The cool part of Idaho.” KARen is so desperate for a friend.

That's not very nice!
I thought if you ever visited the NW we could like hang out, but I guess not...
Weird. I thought they'd go for 15, the size of the full panels for the other Circuits.
Any guesses on whether this passes? And if it does, what happens next? It doesn't get any better after here.
They get to 15 by breaking up the 9th circuit - - - - - - - -
So did I. They must be pretty confident of Roberts' vote going forward, to risk a nominal 1 vote majority.
I don't see it passing unless the Democratic leadership engage in some pretty dirty procedural tricks that would guarantee losing Congress in 2022.
So I think they either won't do it, or if they do it, they'll go on to rig our elections to the point where they simply can't lose next year.
No middle ground.
Couldn't, if the GOP regains Congress, they simply slash the number of Justices back down?
And good luck getting Presidents to stand up and defend SCOTUS decisions they dislike when you make it a blatantly partisan body.
No because of the presidential veto. You need the presidency and both houses of Congress. Also, slashing downwards creates the problem of who's off the court. Therefore, you can only increase the number of justices, and you need unified government to do so.
Except that we have reduced the size of the court. More than once. Congress solved that in the past by making it "upon retirement" or similar.
You do, however, need unified government.
Mandatory retirement, alternating opposite (biological) sexes.
And adding a trans judge every leap year...
"I don’t see it passing unless the Democratic leadership engage in some pretty dirty procedural tricks that would guarantee losing Congress in 2022."
That's why Democrats drafted and Senate Dems are trying to railroad HR 1 through via reconciliation, which only requires 51 votes.
It's also why Biden, Democrats, left wing media propagandists, the MLB Commish and dozens of CEO who endorsed BLM have repeatedly falsely accused Georgia's legislature of enacting a racist voting law.
It worked well in other south American countries.

I have lived in a few of those countries. Nothing like substituting the rule of law for political expediency. 'What is your is yours so long as I don't want it. If I change my mind, the law will change as well.'
That's been the case in the US since the Wilson administration.

Oh shut up.
Fuck off mormon lover
You’re not funny or clever.
Of all the trash you post, this is the only thing that bothers me. Mockery, hyperbole, and even threats, could potentially be satire. I don't get your schtick, but being inflammatory has a rich tradition. I always thought Andy Kaufman was a dick, but art I don't appreciate is still art.
But this...
It is contemptuous. It is not 'borderline' psychological abuse, it is 'all the way down the rabbit hole' psychological abuse. It is 'I am gaslighting you, and I don't even care that you know I am gaslighting you, I am going to continue to gaslight you'. It is a sign of a person so insecure that they just can't control their impulse to smash people who threaten their authority.
This is evil, folks.
You're not funny or clever.
If you were you wouldn't be Mormon.
Strange, I'd thought the constant call to kill anyone it disliked was a good enough clue it's evil, Chuck.

...reaching as many as 10 seats before settling on nine in 1869," notes The Intercept.
See? All throughout our nation's history there has been an unbroken string of fluctuations, so this is nothing out of the ordinary.
Yep. Flucked again.
...at a time when conservative justices outnumber liberal justices 6–3...
Meh.
By "conservative" they mean "not an avowed Marxist".
I wouldn't call Roberts a conservative anymore. Frankly, I believe Obama's spies (you do remember they illegally spied on the Senate Intel Committee staffers' computers, and also on Trump's campaign) spied on the conservative judges and found dirt on Roberts which they continue to use to blackmail him. You can call it a conspiracy theory, but IMHO, it's the logical explanation for Roberts' behavior. Thus, I'd call Roberts a compromised, flawed, individual like most of us, who made a mistake he regrets.
This. Since Sebelius at least.
John's stated explanation that Roberts switched to remain popular in Washington, never made sense to me. Sufficient blackmail to come up with that hideously tortured legal reasoning, OTOH, does.
Roberts killed Medicaid expansion.
The rest of the ACA is largely theater.
If you go by what Edward Snowden revealed, the Obama administration was spying on everyone.
BUT....no mean tweets. That's important.
No price is too high to be free of those awful tweets from the mean Orange Man. Apparently.
The adoption angle made sense to me. He did something shady to get this kids adopted and they found it.
If Roberts did anything to be blackmailed I would think that someone would have spilled the beans by now. I always suspected he took a bribe. He gave every indication he was going to vote to strike down the ACA and was hoping Kennedy would uphold it.
He seemed to have panicked when he discovered how Kennedy would vote and came out with his lunatic ruling. Did any other judge claim it was a tax not a penalty?

Counting Roberts as conservative is questionable.
you misspelled laughable.
...smacks of partisan politics, not fulfilling legitimate legal needs.
They know they'll only have Congress for two more years. (This makes that a certainty, if it wasn't already.)
Are you really sure about that, Fist? I'm not.
I guess we'll see, but I can't imagine this administration bucking the midterms trend.
Would this be a trend like the incumbent President getting over 10 million more votes than he did last time, and winning?
It's not about bucking a trend, it's about having a legitimate midterm election.
It's a lot easier, logistically, to 'fortify' a few key districts than it is to do the same to every congressional district in every state in the country.
It doesn't need to happen in every Congressional District. That indeed would likely be impossible to do and hide. Even now.
It only needs to happen in enough edge Districts to keep the margin safely in one group's hands. Not like anyone's been punished---except for a Republican here and there, LOL---for voting fraud. So why won't it continue?
It only needs to happen in enough edge Districts to keep the margin safely in one group’s hands.
So, like California.
Keep that in mind whenever you see a California license plate in your state.
Honestly, I think some sort of "national emergency" will arise that will mean that midterms are "temporarily delayed", and the newly stacked supreme court will agree.
You Americans don't seem to get that you just had your country stolen by people who don't give a fuck about the constitution, and you're not getting it back.
That's why they're purging your military, and that's why they're taking over the supreme court.
Some of us get that we're being hijacked. Some of us know exectly what that means, and some of us know exactly what will be required to take the country back. The rest are going to need to feel the pain of the progressive agenda before they really understand.
Some of us that already know what's happening are still just really, REALLY hoping we can still solve this in a civilized way, because the alternatives are just not anything we relish.
Some of us that already know what’s happening are still just really, REALLY hoping we can still solve this in a civilized way, because the alternatives are just not anything we relish.
Ultimately, I don't think that will be possible if the Dems keep trying to turn us into Venezuela. The pandemic and the mass hysteria that the media fomented in its wake has made it impossible in the long run for any real reconciliation. The only long-term solution is going to have to be a national divorce if we want to avoid some really bad shit happening.
"The only long-term solution is going to have to be a national divorce if we want to avoid some really bad shit happening."
I've come to agree with this whole heartedly. Funny, not so many years ago I would have relegated such notions to late night AM radio shows. But it is becoming, has become, impossible for us all to live under one roof.
It would be great if we could just amicably divorce and go our separate ways. But leftist have become an abusive spouse who's never gonna the other one go.
Really bad shit's going to happen, and soon, if they persist with this bullshit.
ML, did you see yourube banned Rebel News, one of the few conservative outlets up there, just before your elections? USA was a trial run.
Yeah. I never visited Rebelnews too much. It's like every Gen X nineties trope lives there... but they are fighting the good fight for freedom and thus had to be stopped.
Honestly, I think some sort of “national emergency” will arise that will mean that midterms are “temporarily delayed”, and the newly stacked supreme court will agree.
The Dems are definitely trying to enact one-party rule, but I doubt they'd be that blatant to cancel national elections after chimping out that every single person should have a vote and anything that doesn't make it easier to do so, solely on the honor system, is racism.
If it did actually come to that, all bets are off.
They're not going to cancel elections. They shouldn't need to, to remain in power. Even Venezuela and Russia have elections. Hell, North Korea has elections.
They just don't mean anything.
I doubt they’d be that blatant to cancel national elections after chimping out that every single person should have a vote
I don't know about that. They'll pivot on a dime and the press act's like it never happened. And look at chemjeff and White Knight calling everything "whataboutism" the moment someone points out the pivot and the hypocrisy.
It reminds me of how in Animal Farm the animals came out and saw Squealer literally changing the words of one of the commandments in the middle of the night. And they went along with it.
Wow, rent-free, your head.
So, now you are opining about what chemjeff and I will say about some paranoid hypothetical scenario where the Democrats suspend elections. You are nuts. N-U-T-S, nuts.
Pointing out your actual debate methodology is not paranoia, you useless sack of pus.
Why do you repeat yourself?
White knight couldn't disagree because there's a mountain of evidence, so he got mad and says it's crazy talk.
It's like he's stuck using the CliffsNotes version of Rules For Radicals.
A “mountain of evidence” for my or chemjeff’s opinion on a hypothetical scenario that you just made up. You are nutso.
How many examples of you guys pulling that shit in the past do you want? 20? 40? 800?
You cry whataboutism in almost every thread.
Also, is "nutso" your new deflection goto?
Like i said, if they really tried that, all bets are off. Every red state would be fully justified at that point to tell the feds, "fuck off, we're going our own way."
It would be utter chaos--when you look at the electoral map, a lot of these states consist of population-dense deep blue urban areas that are surrounded by low-population red exurbs and rural areas. So you'd have intra-state revolts with the red hinterlands and blue cities breaking apart, with real, actual road wars and sabotage taking place. And the irony of it all is that every 20th century communist made it a point to cultivate support in the rural areas, not the cities.
They'll go with the California model with open primaries, so that in the general election voters can 'choose' between two Democrats.
Winning or losing, the consolidation of power is the more overarching political trend.
They know they only have 2 years to cement a permanent majority. If they pack the court, they can push through HR1 without worrying about challenges. If they push through HR1, there will never be another Republican majority.
No doubt the Democrats in deep blue states, who only have to worry about primary challengers, think this is possible. I'm guessing the other ones (and the ones around for the Obamacare vote) know better.
I think there is a very real threat to Republicans, especially in districts with an influx of blue-state city dwellers that are shifting the balance from reliably red to purplish. If they succeed in nuking the filibuster and packing the court, they won't need a supermajority, they'll just need a simple majority, especially if they manage to rig election laws just enough that they can rely on a democrat VP. All the really need to ram their agenda through is to maintain the situation they have right now.
Fleeing leftist are just locusts. Flee from one area of destruction and then consume the next area.
Leftism, and leftists, are cancer
They are just your relatives returning to the Lower 49 from whence they came. You should welcome them back with open arms just as we welcome their exit
If they did not cheat in 2020 then they won the Presidency, the House and the Senate without cheating. That does not argue for losing congress in 2022.
If they did win in 2020 by cheating they are unlikely to refrain from cheating in 2022 so their power can be taken from them.
What good will it do to hand over the house to this batch of Republicans? Is there a modern day Gingrich in this group? The only thing these "conservatives" conserve is whatever shit the democrats pass. Obamacare anyone?
Unexpectedly.
What about Gropey McHairSniffer's commission? Its like he isn't actually in charge.
These members figured out he's trying to run out the clock on Court packing.
Moreover, some liberal-leaning scholars and jurists, including Justice Stephen Breyer, have suggested that altering the court's makeup for ideological reasons would damage its reputation as an apolitical body.
Heaven forfend that happen.
What happens when states decide to ignore a packed SC as illegitimate?
Keep in mind, the Dems don't want to do this just to the SC, they want to do this to the lower courts as well.
Every State with a Republican legislature should prepare articles of secession. Just as a talking point. Organizing their militia would be useful, too.
Better to pass a constitutional amendment to set the number.
So what is the consensus here, nullification [X Amendment] by State, or an Article V convention [limited to specific proposals as submitted by 34 State legislatures?].

Earth is overpopulated; there are too many rich people
To solve the climate crisis; the rich must be abolished
And by "rich", what's really meant is the Western middle class
And by the Western middle class he means the kulaks. Not the haute bourgeoisie who pay his way.
Have they announced the conversion rate of AGI to cows when deciding who is a kulak? Or are they just going to let your nearest POC neighbor decide?
Being a POC won't mean shit when the establishment decides they're no longer useful. Right now POC's are just tools for the overclass in its war against the proles.
Then we will just have to make sure each local Commission to Determine Kulak Status is sufficiently diverse to represent all viewpoints. Each 3 person committee must have at least one BIPOC, one Muslim, and one homeless person. They can't be the same person. Persons already working for the government automatically receive clearance.
We need to send mormons to kulaks.
Scratch that. Just send them straight to the gas chambers.

Stupid mormon
My answer is: it’s false. Mormons lie.
Wrong. It is speculated that during the Spanish conquests, Jews were avoiding the concurrent Spanish Inquisition by fleeing to the New World under false names. The point being that:
1) You don't know fuck-all. And,
2) there is no way that what you claim has been proven can even be proved. Those pesky Jews turn up all kinds of places you would never expect.
It’s because perv con artist Joseph Smith pulled it out of his ass.
His hat. He made up the story while translating gold plates using magic rocks that he placed in a hat.
I even quoted the Southpark episode for you last week.
Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb.
Just because it can't be disproven doesn't mean it's not complete horseshit.
How much genetic and archeological evidence has been found to support the Book of Mormon?
None.
The book of Abraham in the Pearl of Great Price has been discredited.
Just because it can’t be disproven doesn’t mean it’s not complete horseshit.
That's so sweet. You think I was finally engaging with you about religion.
I wasn't. I was allowing you to demonstrate that you lack critical thinking skills in your fallacious attempt to falsify an epistemological argument with empirical evidence, which, not coincidentally, is why I won't engage with you about religion. Until you demonstrate an aptitude for logic, there is no point.
What you believe is retarded that's why you don't defend it.
Hahaha! Tell us more about kulaks!
What you believe is retarded that’s why you don’t defend it.
What I believe is irrelevant and doesn't need to be defended. To assert that it does is fallacious. Watch this:
Chuck believes X is true.
X is false.
Chuck asserts that Y is true.
Therefore Y is false.
Leaving aside that the first statement is an assumption on your part and you failed miserably to demonstrate the second, the 4th statement would fail to convince anyone who made through the 8th grade.
I don't know what happened that left you emotionally stunted and bereft of critical thinking skills, but the pattern is clear about when it occurred. Seek professional help.
So are you a Mormon who doesn't believe the book of mormon is true?
Did you convert just to fuck your wife?
"I won’t engage with you about religion"
Which word in that sentence is causing you confusion?
"We need to send mormons to kulaks."
LOL!
Embarrassing
Nardz at least I don't promote known liars like Keefe and Ngo.
You also think speculation in a comment section is "mountains of evidence."
You're a traitor!
And excluding him

warned *just 6 months ago* that opposition by Generals to Trump's withdrawal announcement was some grave crisis. *Today*, she heralds Biden as courageous for defying his Generals!
https://twitter.com/DrewHolden360/status/1382477293797400581
Today, President Biden announced his intention to end the war in Afghanistan, to great media fanfare.
You may remember, way back in 2019 & 2020, President Trump said the same thing.
Let me know if you can spot the difference in coverage then vs. now
Biden also promised we'd be out by 2014 when he was VP
ENB repeats what Biden says like it's the truth. As you point out Trump already made that announcement and he had a plan with a date to do it, and ENB missed her opportunity to point out Biden trying to take credit for something Trump was going to do anyway. Further, she missed the observation, that what Biden is really doing is keeping the troops there longer and indefinitely (as the date will continue to slip, as one can easily read between the lines since this is really a slip in the schedule, not an announcement of withdrawal) , while claiming to be bringing them home because he knows that's what the public wants. It's just more lies from the bait and switch gaslight president.
Biden's real announcement: Hey Military Industrial Complex, we're keeping the war for your business, and campaign cash kickbacks, and cancelling the withdrawal indefinitely, so we can continue this scam forever.
Cruella DeBrown is more interested and concerned about pornography, sex workers and abortion than she is in ending our involvement with Afghanistan.
they have already said that they will be keeping a terrorist task force there even after with draw which means we are not leaving. How big is a terrorist task force 10 or 10 times that or 100 times that etc....
"Oh, gee, the Taliban broke their promise to not attack American troops! Guess we'll have to stay here a bit longer and show them a lesson!"
It was amazing seeing Obama and the media claim Joe is ending the war when reality is he is extending it.
The propaganda wasn't even this blatant in the Soviet Union.

Some CNN producer got brained in the head with a frozen water bottle by Antifa yesterday. I laughed my ass off when I saw it, too bad it wasn't a brick or a fire extinguisher.
Good thing we got rid of that power mad tyrant trump, right fellas?
I really wish there was a way to upvote comments on this site.
Mr. Markey disagreed, arguing that adding four justices—thus allowing President Biden to create a 7-6 liberal majority—"will shore up the public's confidence in the court and its legitimacy in the public's eyes."
These idiots think theirs is always the default ideology and everyone but a fringe element in this country agrees.
From what I understand, the SCOTUS has more legitimacy in the public's eyes than Congress. Markey should look to the plank in his own eye.
I think Markey knows what he's up too. He's just trying to fool the wine moms who will now argue passionately with their husbands that this is "fair".
This is the group to whom "compromise" means "giving us everything we want."
Once again making me sick to admit that I currently still live in Massachusetts.
Either Mr. Markey doesn't know what the words 'confidence' and 'legitimacy' mean, or he is so out of his fecking gourd, he's ... he's nuttier than a squirrel turd.
At what point will some of you realize that the Global Socialist Party ruling class is waging war on the American people, and that the left is wholly on board with them?
Never. They are in a media bubble saying they are all good and smart for playing along, and they should live in fear of covid carrying white supremacist science deniers who are destroying the climate. Carrot/stick/carrot/stick. The govt will borrow money until they system collapses, then blame 'capitalism' for the collapse and seize total power.

infrequent reminder that "Piano Man" is one of the most insufferable, self-indulgent, maudlin pop tunes that is enjoyable only when you realize the piano man is totally oblivious to the fact he's playing at a gay bar.
- There's an old man sittin' next to me
- Now John at the bar is a friend of mine. He gets me my drinks for free
- Now Paul is a real estate novelist,
who never had time for a wife. And he's talkin' with Davy, who's still in the Navy and probably will be for life
-the manager gives me a smile because he knows that it's me they've been comin' to see.
bill, you're playing a gay bar, my man.
- And he's quick with a joke, or to light up your smoke, but there's someplace that he'd rather be
He's in love with you, bill.
Bill? Bill!
the clincher: And they sit at the bar and put bread in my jar and say, "Man, what are you doin' here?"
literally everyone except for the piano player knows what's happening.
they're not wondering what you, the supposedly amazing piano player, are doing playing at a bar. they're literally wondering why you, an ostensibly straight man, are the house musician.
Lol
"The waitress is practicing politics..." Lot of female waitresses in gay bars? Lots of females maybe, if it's a dance club, but waitresses?
Besides, the musician is there for the reason any musician is playing somewhere: because they got paid. The author's point is a bit strange. Does he think only gay men work in gay bars?
"Bob, you need to suck three more dicks before the end of your probationary period, if you want to keep working here..." I mean, that's likely how it works in Hollywood, but still.
Coincidentally yes, it's not unusual to find women working at gay bars, nor is it that unusual for straight men to work at gay bars (usually security in my experience but not always).
A paycheck is a paycheck as they say. Or similarly, $20 is $20.
Seems like that would actually be desireable because they wouldn't have to worry about getting gropped or hit on all the time while they're trying to work.
Plus, gay men tend to be pretty generous tippers because they're usually in the upper income brackets. When I waited tables in college, gay men always gave the wait staff the best tips, while the church groups were the worst--other than seniors, but that was because they were stuck in a paradigm where a slice of pie cost a dollar and ten cents was plenty for a tip. The church groups were just cheap-asses.
Did you ever get those fake tips that look like money until you slide it all the way out from the plate and then it's like "GOD WILL SAVE YOU"?
Only once or twice, thankfully, although I was far less insulted by that than when they'd run me ragged for an hour, spend $100-200, then leave like $2-3, at most, for a tip. There was one church group who came in regularly who did this, and after the first couple of times, we stopped giving a damn because we knew they were going to cornhole us no matter how hard we worked. Plus, we figured if they got shitty service, they'd be less likely to stop by in the future.
Groups like that are the reason that "all parties above ____ will automatically have ______% added to their bill" was put in place--because they would cheap out, or in some cases, couldn't do math.
Splitting the check sometimes helps overcome that, because they end up going off of their own specific bill rather than the poor math they're doing in their head from the consolidated one. Even if they're still leaving a shitty tip, the cumulation can sometimes get you at least something manageable for the time spent.
Another trick I figured out for larger families (7-12 tops), if they had grandparents with them, was hand the bill to the middle-aged father when he and grandpa ended up fighting over the check. The grandpa would, almost without fail, tip no more than 12%, while the dad would tip 20% or more 9 times out of ten.
Round here it was the ren fair folks that did this.
"I ponder, fellow travelers, should we add a gratuity to the serving wench after our wee ones spilled two flagons of soda and scattered our rations of chicken fingers across the pub floor??"
"Seems like that would actually be desireable because they wouldn’t have to worry about getting gropped or hit on all the time while they’re trying to work."
Which is exactly the logic behind the women I talked to, loving to dance at gay nightclubs. Using sex appeal goes hand in hand with increased tips. If the clientele are of a social/ethnic class that tips, that is...
Goddamnit! I got the 4-top of Canadians last night! It's your turn to deal with them."
Doctors are the worst tippers of all. They feel the world, including waitstaff, owes them something because they are a doctor. Work in a bar/restaurant near a hospital like I did and you'll see. On Friday's, I used to come in an hour early to make seven pizza's for a doctors' weekly staff meeting at the hospital. Then, I would carry the seven pizzas two blocks to them in the hospital. I never got so much as a penny from them; they would give me a check for the exact amount. The only time I ever got a tip, their secretary had to receive the order. She asked what they usually tipped. I was honest and said zero because at that point I would rather get a shitty tip but make them look bad in the eyes of their staff. She ended up giving me $5, which was still a shitty tip on seven pizzas, even in 1989.
I worked in franchises in more ordinary middle-class areas in Aurora and Arvada, so people with that kind of money rarely came in unless they were meeting a friend for drinks. They'd usually hit the fancy-poo places around Greenwood Village or downtown Denver, and I never worked in those because I didn't want to wear white-collared shirts and dress shoes just to serve people food.
This is funny! Thank you!
But, every truly "enlightened" man would know that there are plenty of women in the bar -- it's just that no such man would ever try to figure out why any woman would be patronizing a bar full of such losers!
They're all "amazing piano players", but about the best thing most of them can do is play at a bar. Why a gay bar? Well, somebody's got to do it.
"Brown Eyed Girl" is about anal sex.
What?? Ok....how the F is Brown Eyed Girl about anal sex???
I have to call BS
The Democrats want to repeal the Constitution by the back door, in other words.
Made me chortle when that was the next comment after a subthread on gay bars.
"Congressional Democrats Want To Vote Themselves Into a Supreme Court Majority"
As opposed to what, losing popular votes and getting to pick the justices. Fuck you, not you personally, but you can't cheat cheaters. The Senate is rigged. The electoral college is rigged. Voting to expand the court is as legitimate and even more so than the way it's been done.
Maybe the Democrats should expand their appeal beyond the incompetent electorates of the dysfunctional states of New York and California.
"As opposed to what, losing popular votes and getting to pick the justices"
Remember how chemjeff was arguing furiously against direct democracy this weekend, and now look at his sock when it's time to switch issues.
Neat how Stroozle suddenly seems to think that it's now okay to literally stack the court, when he was so against Trump making a selection when there was a legitimate opening.
Jeff was never for direct democracy. He believes elites should override citizens. He lies all the time. He wants a global concentration of power. He admittedly to it.

U.S. will finally withdraw troops from Afghanistan.
Blackhawk Down II in the works.
Which ignores that Biden had extended the time for withdrawal from what his predecessor had decided on, in favor of a timetable with the mind blowingly bad symbolism of 9/11 as the target deadline date for completion.

"Mastercard caves to anti-porn groups. Under pressure from religious groups"
ENB knows exactly who is pushing this but she lies and blames her old bogeyman, because no enemies in the establishment or on the left.
This is the state of Reason magazine in 2021. Propagandists who'll run cover even when it hurts their own pet causes.
So Woke isn't a religion anymore? But this is a both sides issue. Religious Christians and Religious Wokes teaming up to create the worst super band in history.
You think MasterCard actually gives a fuck about what Christians think?
I'm sure they're delighted by MasterCard's actions, but all the glory goes to Team Woke for this one.
I think MasterCard cares about keeping federal regulators happy and sex trafficking is the new moral panic being pushed by both groups and their allies in Congress.
Yeah.... Zero chance this is some conservative christian lobby. "Deplatforming" using the banking system was created by Obama. It has been used by the Obama administration directly to attack strippers and porn actors.
It has been exclusively used by the left to attack "right wing" voices in the years since. "Right wing" in scare quotes because the first prominent example was noted conspiracy theorist and performance artist Alex Jones.
I was also wondering about this.
My guess is that the biblethumpers have been after this sort of thing for 50 years... And now - in 2021 - Mastercard caves to the Moral Majority? Really?
Longer than fifty, since the 1920's at least. But in the end all it took is a couple of tweet threats from some wokesters.
OT: the frequency I'm seeing fighter jets from naval station Mayport flying around has increased exponentially.

Insurrection
What's in Jacksonville that insurrectionists are interested in? They already control the whole state of Florida, don't they? Or, at least, those few folks who remain after DeSantis killed off most of them with Chicom-19.
Think you answered your own question. Show of force against all that impose the Imperial Forces.
SleepyJoe needs a diversion. Time to start a war.
It could be something as simple as getting in training hours before the end of a specified period. Or doing workups in preparation for getting ready to deploy/go on a cruise. That is not all that concerning, IMHO.
What I have seen lately, and is more concerning, is a lot of CBP aerial surveillance, flying long---fairly high, but still loud---orbits over West Houston. Cessna high-wing, single turbine engine, blue-white livery, big ventral box, and did I mention the fucker is loud? Not showing up on flightaware or the like, either.
Nothing to see here...
Yikes.
I've lived here for 3 years. This flight schedule is unprecedented in that time.
Maybe they're finally getting that CVN homeport their wiki states they've been whining about wanting for the past 20 years? Alternately, they do already have a gator carrier or two, and those now carry F-35s. At least, some of them do. F-35s are also not the quietest aircraft in the military.
Maybe the Marines are working up to go somewhere?
I've heard them 3 separate times since 8 am this morning.
I'm worried they're getting ready to force the issue in Ukraine.
Wow
Make that 4
If that were the case, then the USN wouldn't have changed its mind about sailing those two Burkes into the Black Sea. Turkey would've been fine with it, judging by their public statements in support of Ukraine.
Loading up a carrier for deployment to South China Sea?

...Mr. Biden made a case that there was no longer any justification — if there ever was — to believe that the United States military presence could turn Afghanistan into a stable democracy.
Ouch. They just couldn't remove enough Afghans, I'm sure.
I remember coming to that conclusion in 2011 after only 90 days in country.

"WASHINGTON—A House panel approved legislation that would create a commission to study the possibility of offering reparations to the descendants of enslaved people in the U.S . . . .
The legislation calls for the creation of a 13-member commission that would study the history of slavery and discrimination against Black Americans and make recommendations about possible remedies to address their lasting impact. It also tasks the commission with considering a national apology for the treatment of enslaved people and their descendants.
“The goal of this historical commission and its investigation is to bring American society to the new reckoning with how our past affects the current conditions of African-Americans,” said Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D., Texas), the lead author of the legislation, dubbed H.R. 40 in reference to the broken Civil War-era promise to give freed slaves 40 acres and a mule.
----WSJ
https://www.wsj.com/articles/house-panel-advances-bill-to-study-slavery-reparations-11618466187?
Collective guilt is an absurd notion. Each of us are responsible for the things we choose to do, and anyone who never chose to enslave others, bears no responsibility for the choices of those who did.
Are the descendants of those who risked their lives on the battlefield to fight against slavery collectively guilty, too?
Will there be a commission to study reparations for the victims of Union Army war crimes and their descendants?
A lot of American blacks are descendants of slavers who raped slaves. Do you get less reperations if you have slaveholder ancestry too?
What about if you're 50% white? Do you only get half?
What if you are like Obama and have no slave ancestry?
This is no time to ask questions.
Questioning the narrative is white supremacy. This is known.
What about the descendants of Asian, Hispanic, Middle Eastern, and other ethnicities, who migrated to the United States long after the Civil War or long after the Civil Rights Act--are they collectively guilty, too?
What about Native American taxpayers? Are they also collectively responsible for the legacy of slavery?
They are the most responsible, what with their open borders policy that allowed settlers to ruin this fine land.
What about black, middle class to upper middle class professionals and rich black people who have managed to acheive success despite being descendants of slaves? Are they also entitled to reparations? Is a poor, white grocery clerk expected to pay reparations to a rich, black lawyer?
Aside from the absurdity of it, this is just a can of worms that needs to stay sealed forever. Once you start a "commission," the commission is going to have submit a finding, and someone is going to expect you to take action on that finding. And given the behavior of the BLM folks this past year, I think it's a pretty safe guess what their reaction will be if they don't like the finding or the action.
What about black, middle class to upper middle class professionals and rich black people who have managed to acheive success despite being descendants of slaves? Are they also entitled to reparations? Is a poor, white grocery clerk expected to pay reparations to a rich, black lawyer?
Yes. And I'm not saying this unironically. They really do believe this, and they're enabled by white liberals who think they're cleansing themselves of the sin of having white skin by doing so.
Cue the 4chan comment that, "This is a new religion, and your surprise at their behavior will sound exactly like Romans who were puzzled by all those people worshipping a Jew on a stick."
The irony is that if they get the "Great Replacement" they've been jonesing for by increasing Hispanic immigration, that will eventually end because most Hispanics aren't all that fond of black people and aren't exactly susceptible to race guilt.
What if your family arrived in the 20th century?
Racist!
Only if the commission agrees to study the impacts of being the descendant of a black person whose ancestors were not slaves as a control group. They don't have to start with Somalians, they can feel free to start with Nigerians.
It's a provocative game because what if they find out that African Americans actually owe society and not the other way around. You start down the path of collective guilt or blame and you're halfway to being a racist.
If it's race based collective guilt, I'd say you're already there.
I think abysmal stupidity will suffice to explain his posts.
as a part of reparations will they have to live on reservations to get it. thats what we did to the first arrivers. will they also get free medical at certain "tribal" clinics like the first arrivers?
Do the north Africans that sold other Africans into slavery have to pay, or do they get money?
If we're doing reparations, why are we excluding the Irish or Chinese?
That's racist.
If any reparations are to be paid to descendants of slaves, the Democrat Party (not Uncle Sam / federal taxpayers) should be held accountable for paying ALL of those reparations, as Democrats:
- Represented slave holders whose goal was to maintain slavery,
- Seceded from the Union and started the Civil War to keep slaves,
- Opposed Lincoln's Emancipation and Constititional amendments that freed and gave rights to slaves/blacks,
- Attacked blacks who ran for political office or vote in the South,
- Created KKK chapters nationwide and enforced Jim Crow,
- Enacted many laws since the 1960s that have destroyed many/most black families, and made many blacks dependent upon Big Brother for free/subsidized housing, food, education, healthcare, etc.
Those traitor democrats were southern conservatives.
Southern conservatives are Republicans today. Trump worshipping Republicans.
They were traitors back then and they are traitors now.
One.
One southern Democrat switched parties. The rest, including those who filibustered the ’64 CRA, stayed Democrats until they were out of office. Most remained Democrats until they died.
There was no switch. The record of who was in Congress proves that.
This is a lie perpetrated by Democrats, the party of slavery, of Jim Crow, of the Black Codes, of the KKK, of segregation, of thousands of Confederate monuments placed to intimidate black people. The party of redlining, of destroying the black family, of creating ghettoes, of aborting millions of Black babies.
Voters switched. Racist conservatives in the south started voting Republican.
"Aborting black babies"
You know a conservative has lost an argument if they bring up abortion.
You know they're racist if they bring up blacks getting abortions.
Btw you're not a libertarian if you want to outlaw abortion
Abortion is as libertarian as rape and cannibalism.
There's two humans involved in every abortion, but fascist ghouls like you don't give a shit if somebody gets murdered.
Do you support the Conservatives in Canada?
Scheer was anti-choice, but Otoole is pro-choice or whatever the leaders name is.
NATO forces, which today have a far larger presence than the United States, would also depart, European officials said.
So Trump, Biden and NATO are all Putin puppets?
In America, the law enforcement caste has some of the harshest rules in the world for us, while it applies a different set of standards to itself.
It's not like it's their businesses getting looted.
Fucking Ed Markey every time. If that ratfuck's name is attached to it, you can guarantee it is weapons-grade bullshit.
I first started watching this piece of shit when he openly called for the prosecution of then-student Christopher Soghoian (now a respected security researcher) for whistleblowing on an airline when they ignored his reports of a flaw in their public-facing software that enabled anyone, including asshole congressmen, to generate a valid boarding pass.
Every time I read his name, it is attached to some authoritarian bullshit like this.

Nadler is also one of the primary authors.
I'm opposed to abortion...but why couldn't mama Nadler become more intimate with a coat hanger at the appropriate time?
I can't believe that fat bastard survived covid.
And isn't Hank Johnson the one who thought Guam was going to tip over?
It's racist to remember that.
A federal appeals court has given Ohio the go-ahead to ban abortions undertaken because a fetus has been diagnosed with Down syndrome.
You know who else...?
Sanger? Democrats?
These forced birther judges and politicians should be required to put a gun to the head of a pregnant woman every year in a symbolic ceremony.
Why?
I realize that you're trying to make some sort of poorly-thought-out analogy, but it sounds stupid.
I like the term forced birther judges. It's natural opposite is 'forced abortion judges'. It exposes the pathology of Progressives, who have always wanted fewer people and zero defect like Downs syndrome. For the greater good, of course.
At least they are admitting they want to murder people for having disabilities.
We need to be forcing mormons to have abortions.
"...but it sounds stupid."
That's because he is; I'm guessing it's his 3rd year in 6th grade.
"Forced birther", LOL. You do know how women get pregnant, right?
Mr. Markey disagreed, arguing that adding four justices—thus allowing President Biden to create a 7-6 liberal majority—"will shore up the public's confidence in the court and its legitimacy in the public's eyes."
A confidence that's been sorely lacking ever since President Nixon in 1948 in reaction to the Brown v Board of Education decision rallied the KKK and the American Nazi Party to reduce the number of SCOTUS justices from 13 to 9, so this is really just restoring the court to what it was before those radical racists fundamentally changed one of our most sacred institutions.
What?
You calling me a liar?
Racist.

????THREAD????
Today, President Biden announced his intention to end the war in Afghanistan, to great media fanfare.
You may remember, way back in 2019 & 2020, President Trump said the same thing.
Let me know if you can spot the difference in coverage then vs. now
The coverage is dramatically different.
Water is wet.
It's become painfully obvious that Donald Trump losing the presidency in 2020 was the biggest disaster for libertarian capitalism since FDR, and may prove to be even worse than the New Deal over time. Being painfully obvious, however, isn't really good enough.
The fact is that as the Democrats become increasingly authoritarian and increasingly socialist, it is entirely appropriate (and maybe even absolutely necessary) for libertarian capitalists to become increasingly Republican. In pragmatic terms, there is no way to stop the country from becoming more authoritarian and more socialist without the Republicans winning significant victories in 2022 and 2024.
No, it isn't enough to admit that Donald Trump losing in 2020 was a disaster for libertarian capitalism. It's also necessary for us, as individuals, to acknowledge that to whatever extent we contributed to Trump's loss, we are responsible for the country becoming increasingly authoritarian and increasingly socialist--to the same extent.
Without that acknowledgement, how do we warn people away from making the same mistake again in 2022 or 2024? Is it possible that the Democrats losing control of the House to the Republicans in 2022 could be bad news for libertarian capitalists? Is there any way that could be considered anything other than good news? Is it realistically possible for the Republicans to nominate someone worse than Joe Biden has been on authoritarianism or socialism? I don't think it is!
Nah, bro. Bad tweets, remember? How gauche.
A columnist in today's paper said a group of Dem pollsters got together and analyzed the 2020 results. They concluded that voters who waited until election day to make up their minds, went heavily for Trump. One conclusion: voters shouldn't be given the opportunity to vote 4-5 weeks before Election Day as late-breaking news (e.g. Hunter Biden corruption) is likely to sway votes.
Both candidates were in their 70s and Trump got Covid. What would have happened if one of them died after 50 million early votes were cast?
I asked that question to many early voters. It never occurred to them, and they had no answer.
Harris or Pence would have been President.
That's not a given. It would be after electoral votes were cast. However, it's conceivable that if the presidential candidate died after early votes were cast, there'd've been time for their respective parties to pick another presidential candidate who would not show up on popular ballots but be known as the person they'd tell their electors to vote for. Depends a lot on timing and the popularity of the vice presidential candidate. Harris did so badly in the presidential primaries, it would seem the DNC would've been eager to not have her as the effective presidential candidate. If the replacement were found early enough, some states' ballots could have a new name sent by the Democrats' state secretary.
...Late-breaking news which can be selectively suppressed by our tech overlords.
Selection of electors of a state is determined by the laws of that state. So if a candidate dies after votes are cast but before election day, that state’s election law would need to have addressed that possibility. Absent that, the state government would decide. There likely isn’t any resolution at the Federal level.
Jeff assured us you're mistaken and a MAGA cultist.
I know you know that it doesn't matter what ChemJeff says about anything. If he's right about anything, it's almost certainly by accident.
First Premise: The Democrats have become increasingly authoritarian and increasingly socialist.
Second Premise: The only practical means for libertarian capitalists to oppose them is by supporting the Republicans in 2022 and 2024.
Conclusion: Therefore, libertarian capitalists should become increasingly Republican.
I'll defend the first premise by citing all the authoritarian and socialist policies piling up in the Senate against the filibuster and Joe Biden's support for them.
I'll defend the second premise by citing Duverger's law.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duverger%27s_law
It seems to me that if the premises are true, then the conclusion is true.
Anyone with a legitimate criticism of the logic or the premises, please step forward. If the premises or the logic are wrong or should be improved, I want to know and I want to know why.
As it now stands, in next year's election, I strongly suspect (and hope) Republicans will pick up at least twenty seats in the House, and at least one in the Senate (likely Ralph Warnock's in GA).
That's also why Democrats (who agree with my assessment) are trying to railroad HR 1 through the Senate via reconciliation.
I agree on both points.
Ken may not be a cultist, but he did sell out his libertarianism for a pocket full of mumbles such are Trump's promises.
You're a leftist, who apparently is already bored of glibs. Sorry to inform you. Are you still waiting on the reward for criticizing Biden?
I outline an argument for why libertarians should support Republicans, and White Knight responds by accusing me of supporting Republicans.
How is that anything but stupid?
She's an idiot.
I’ll just quote your own words:
“I outline an argument for why libertarians should support Republicans, and White Knight responds by accusing me of supporting Republicans.”
Without any sense of irony?
You don't realize why that's embarrassing and why that makes you look stupid?
So, if you are not following your own argument, you are saying your argument wasn’t any good.
Did you really not see me make this argument?
First Premise: The Democrats have become increasingly authoritarian and increasingly socialist.
Second Premise: The only practical means for libertarian capitalists to oppose them is by supporting the Republicans in 2022 and 2024.
Conclusion: Therefore, libertarian capitalists should become increasingly Republican.
I’ll defend the first premise by citing all the authoritarian and socialist policies piling up in the Senate against the filibuster and Joe Biden’s support for them.
I’ll defend the second premise by citing Duverger’s law."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duverger%27s_law
It seems to me that if the premises are true, then the conclusion is true.
Anyone with a legitimate criticism of the logic or the premises, please step forward. If the premises or the logic are wrong or should be improved, I want to know and I want to know why.
----Ken Shultz
For the millionth time--there are only two ways that argument can be wrong: 1) either the premises aren't true or 2) there's a logical fallacy in there somewhere, which means the reasoning is false.
Which one is it?
You keep restating my conclusion as if that somehow makes sense!
Ken Shultz: "1 + 1 = 2".
White Knight: "Ken is wrong because he thinks the answer is "2"".
Ken Shultz: "Can you show me where I'm wrong?"
White Knight: "You said the answer was "2"".
Ken Shultz: "You're an idiot, White Knight, and this proves it".
You sold out to the Republicans.
You're an idiot, and this proves it.
to acknowledge that to whatever extent we contributed to Trump’s loss, we are responsible for the country becoming increasingly authoritarian and increasingly socialist–to the same extent.
I though collective guilt was bullshit? Unless your talking about people who actually voted for the Biden,
anyone who never chose to enslave others, bears no responsibility for the choices of those who did.
- Ken Shultz
"It’s also necessary for us, as individuals, to acknowledge that to whatever extent we contributed to Trump’s loss, we are responsible for the country becoming increasingly authoritarian and increasingly socialist–to the same extent."
----Ken Shultz (bold added)
To the extent that I persuaded friends and family (and the people they talk to in other states) that it didn't matter whether they voted for Democrats or Republicans, I am personally responsible for whatever effect that had on their vote. To the extent that my bad decisions and actions contributed to the authoritarian and socialist policies we suffer as a result of them, I am personally responsible for the results of that.
That's just one example.
Some individuals are professional writers and wrote articles trying to persuade people that there wasn't any substantial difference between Trump and Biden on policy--because neither of them were perfectly libertarian. And to whatever extent those individual writers persuaded some voters to stay home in swing states or stay home during the Senate runoff elections in Georgia, those individuals are personally responsible for whatever authoritarian and socialist policies are a result of that--to the extent that their articles contributed to making those policies both possible and a reality.
We are responsible for what happens as a result of our choices to the extent that our choices have an impact on what happens, and to the extent that the authoritarian and socialist policies we suffer are a result of our failure to persuade others to do the things we needed them to do in order to avoid these authoritarian and socialist outcomes, we are responsible for them.
Unless we accept the responsibility for our actions last time, it is likely that we will make the same mistakes in 2022 and 2024.
I am generally not a fan of Ayn Rand or her writing, but the best thing she ever wrote was in Atlas Shrugged, where she went through the cars in the train when everyone suffocated, with something like a Gunther Grass floating camera eye and showed how each person had contributed to their own deaths in their own way--to various extents. One was a philosophy professor who taught his students that they weren't personally responsible for what they do--it's just a function of outside forces. He suffocated to death because the system tolerated other people's incompetence. Person by person, they had all contributed to the state of society that made the conditions of their deaths possible.
The people of Venezuela didn't only suffer starvation conditions because Maduro is an awful person and made bad decisions. They suffered starvation conditions because they supported Hugo Chavez all those years ago and failed to oppose him when he nationalized food distribution. To the extent that anyone contributed to the election of Hugo Chavez is the same extent to which they contributed to the starvation experienced by the Venezuelan people as a result of those policies. Those policies were not a surprise, and after they were instituted and it was clear what would happen, a majority of Venezuelans voted for him again!
There was no mystery about what the policies of Biden and the Democrats would be before the November election in 2020 and the Georgia runoffs on January 5, 2021. To whatever extent we failed to do what was necessary to avoid this outcome, we are to blame. Because some people are far more to blame than others doesn't mean we didn't contribute to these policies. To the extent that I failed to persuade my fellow libertarians and my fellow Americans to vote for Trump and the Republicans, I am responsible. I don't want to make that mistake again, and the first part of that is admitting that I made a mistake.

Some real patriot, identifiable by the dog-whistle (R) behind his name, will introduce a constitutional amendment to set the SC number at nine, and get it through before the democrats can stage their show trial hearings to 'justify' the expansion.
Go team red!
(by the way, does anyone know who assigned the color of communism to the republicans?)
It used to be incumbent blue, challenger red. Clinton was in office in 2000, so Gore was blue, W was Red. After that election and the aftermath, the colors stuck and weren't reversed in future elections.
No, it was R= blue, D = red. and they switched in 1984 specifically because it was unfair to equate Ds with communism
And a super-patriot would include a reduction to seven, retiring the
oldest members of each sex.
Federal Prosecutors Will Not Charge [Still Unamed] Capitol Officer Who Shot Ashli Babbitt, Citing Self-Defense
https://dailycaller.com/2021/04/14/ashli-babbitt-capitol-no-charges/
The Justice Department said in its statement that an officer who acted out of “fear, mistake, panic, misperception, negligence or even poor judgment” did not meet the threshold required by federal law to pursue criminal charges.
Further proof the justice system is racist. She should have been on drugs and resisting arrest.
So a self-admitted, negligent and panicked Federal LEO can deliberately and intentionally kill someone, and not suffer any criminal sanction. (Or even be identified.) Even in the absence of a perception by the officer of a threat of imminent death or seriously bodily injury.
OK. Now we know what the rules are.
If the family filed a wrongful death lawsuit, wouldn't that police officer have to be identified?
Hmmm, seems different in MN
Whatever you do, don't read the responses to the AP Twitter post on that story. Lets just say there are people who would ecstatically fall over themselves to volunteer for the firing squad targeting Trump voters, if it came to that.
And why would they? The officer was doing his job of protecting the Congress members, Vice President, staff and guests from a mob of rioters who had broken into the Capitol building.
So by your inference here, the cops can open fire on all of the ongoing riots... got it. They have all tried entering various buildings (looting) including government buildings (cutting down fences and attempting to enter various government buildings).
That is your standard right?
You have no principles beyond what is best for the left.
Yes, the cops can open fire in similar situations: a violent mob has infiltrated a building where all that stands between the mob and the people who are being protected from the mob is the cops.
That’s my standard.
N.B. (Because I know you’ll misquote me) my standard is not just trespassing, but also threatening to harm people in the building.
That still leaves open a civil lawsuit by the family or estate of Ashli Babbitt.
We clearly need more thought control. Wait until they install President Heiress.
A Majority of Voters Think Cheating Affected the Results of the 2020 Election
https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/matt-margolis/2021/04/14/did-cheating-affect-the-results-of-the-2020-election-a-majority-of-voters-think-so-n1440003
According to Rasmussen Reports, “Seventy-four percent (74%) of Republicans believe it is likely last year’s presidential election was affected by cheating, a view shared by 30% of Democrats and 51% of voters not affiliated with either major party.”
Think about that. Nearly a third of Democrats admitted that they believe cheating may have impacted the result—meaning that they think Trump may have been the legitimate winner of the election.
Overall, a majority of all voters, 51 percent, believe it is likely that cheating affected the outcome—35 percent say it’s very likely.
That's why there's troops in the capitol and full blown political censorship of social media. That's why the military is doing an ideological purge and why they're stacking the courts.
For the last three months the Democrats and the establishment are behaving exactly like coup leaders cementing power.
God knows the media and the government now is acting like they stole an election.
Nothing says "Totes legitimate" like barricading the capital and putting thousands of troops there while insisting anybody questioning anything involving the election should lose their livelihood.

An update to Bridgestone Americas, Inc’s corporate travel policy dated April 4, 2021, is an example of how employers may leverage their influence over individuals to make the COVID-19 vaccination necessary, even if they do not mandate it. The new policy applies to all employees who travel or meet with customers, but the implications are inescapable. There will be two classes of employees for the foreseeable future: those who have received the vaccine and those who have not. The introduction to the policy update states that explicitly. According to internal documents provided to PJ Media by a Bridgestone employee:
Below is a summary of key updates to the policy’s protocols, which now differentiate between fully vaccinated teammates and partially vaccinated or unvaccinated teammates. Also included is a helpful Q&A to assist you in having conversations with other teammates and customers about their vaccination status.
Everyone must be vaccinated even though 2 of them are too dangerous to take.
Note a California university is requiring vaccination to return to school but once there even though vaccinated they will be tested twice a week. why the testing if your vaccinated this makes no sense and makes for its own conspiracy no need for Q
Without the twice-a-week testing in schools there wouldn't be enough "cases" to be scary.
As an added bonus, as we drastically ramp up testing for students we also get to say stuff like "NEW VARIENT ATTACKING CHILDREN"
Just curious how this doesn't run afoul of ADA.
It 100% does and will be dropped as soon as the lawyers show up.

Secondly, if they voted for the people who gave them 'free shit', they got what they deserved. If not, they need to beat on the parasites who did.

Sarah Halimi was a retired French physician and schoolteacher. She was also an Orthodox Jew. On April 4, 2017, Halimi was in her Paris apartment where she lived alone. In the middle of the night, a 27-year-old Muslim man of Malian origin named Kobili Traoré, who lived in the building, broke into her apartment. Traoré tortured Ms. Halimi, who was in her 60s, beating her and kicking her. According to neighbors, who called the police after hearing Halimi’s cries, Traoré called her a “shaitan” (satan) and a dirty Jew. Ultimately, he threw Ms. Halimi’s battered body out of her third-story apartment window shouting “Allahu akbar.”
There are other gruesome details, but that is the basic story. It’s hard to imagine a set of facts more damning and more clear.
So in December 2019, when I read that French prosecutors had decided to drop murder charges against Traoré, a man with nearly two dozen prior convictions, on the grounds that he had smoked pot, I felt sick.
I could not believe it myself. It was incredible.
My first reaction: Thank God for Israel. I have a haven to flee to. And the way things are moving here in the US, it is something I now have to consider. Which I cannot believe.
What happened to Sarah Halimi is what will happen to Jews a lot more if there is no Israel.
Fuck Bibi

Please. Tell me this is a fake.

So, he was a fucking nut, but prosecuting him for murder might have both illustrated that town's police force's incompetence, and given some fuel to Le Pen's political campaign. Since shithead was from Mali, and is Muslim. Awesome.
Plus, because we're on Island Time or France in August, same/same, it evidently takes the court a half year to even figure out if the mutt is either competent to stand trial or wasn't legally insane at the time of the assault.

The roughly 2,500 American troops on the ground there, he said, would be gradually withdrawn starting on May 1, with the process complete by Sept. 11, a timetable intended to signal his determination to end a vexing and largely failed chapter in American foreign policy.
LOL, goddamn, this really is Obama's third term. Bush had signed the SOFA to pull troops out of Iraq by the end of 2011, but Obama waltzed in and took the credit for it.
Trump signs a deal to get us out entirely on May 1st, the Biden administration drags its heels and issues a list of new demands the Taliban has to meet so it can claim in early April they "don't have enough time" to complete the pullout, and then says everyone will be gone by September 11th so they can take all the credit.
Wonder what's going to happen after May 1st when the Taliban starts pocking Americans again because the Biden administration broke the deal.
“Well, we were going to leave, but a recent flair up in violence forces us to stay. We may have to reinstate the draft.”
"U.S. will finally withdraw troops from Afghanistan."
When Trump first entered into the peace deal to withdraw us from Afghanistan entirely, 14 months ago, you could hardly get Reason to mention it--much less give Trump any credit.
When Biden announces that he's breaching the terms of Trump's withdrawal deal--by refusing to leave Afghanistan as agreed and issuing demands as a condition of withdrawal, such as that the Taliban respect the rights of women--now Reason wants to give Biden credit for supposedly withdrawing from Afghanistan?!
You're influencing public opinion with this kind of behavior, but it's not in the way that you think.

Reason is just following the lead of CNN, MSNBC, NY Times, WaPo, and other left wing propagandists who falsely praise Biden for implementing Trump's excellent policies (just as they did about Trump's covid vaccine creation policies).
A modest proposal to reform the USSC via Constitutional Amendment.
1. Permanently fix the court at 9 members.
2. Each President gets to nominate 1 justice per presidential term, to be sworn in on the last day of the term.
3. The eldest supreme court justice is retired on the same day.
4. In the event of a justice's death or early retirement, the nomination process continues as present.
Thus the court can't be packed, there's a term limit (theoretically 36 years) for justices, and the political risks of "your guy" not being president are reduced.
Hmm, I kind of like that idea.
Still butt hurt over Merrick Garland, and of course Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett: IOW, payback time.

The influence of "politics" is just another term for accountability to the proles.
"And yet…a Democratic-controlled legislature doing so at a time when conservative justices outnumber liberal justices 6–3 seems—and adding not one or two more spots but enough justices to see that, if appointed under President Joe Biden, liberals would once again hold a Supreme Court majority—smacks of partisan politics, not fulfilling legitimate legal needs."

I don't know why Dems *wouldn't* pack the court. It's not like people in the 2020 election were pointing to Brett Kavanaugh.
They've got ongoing peaceful protests that could escalate into a weeks worth of rioting at the rather literal flip of a switch to memory hole anything done months, let alone years ago. With any given arrest of an armed felon as cover political cover, why wouldn't they?

Wow. Well good for Pelosi.
Tactics, not strategy. She will hold the reins until the pretend commission produces the report she wants, then ram it through.
Maybe yes, maybe no. Biden has been less than his wishy washy self and seems to be against court packing. Plenty of polls show it does not have a majority of voters, just far left dem voters.
But the real problem with your claim is if court packing bills are dead in the House for this session that means next session it will be an election issue.
I get it that the pinko commie creep dems want to pack the courts but they are a small, and seemingly getting smaller, group and lots of more moderate dems are pushing back.
Reason was a huge Biden supporter. Surely the four new Supreme Court Judges would be Libertarians!
Packing the court is a waste of time. Liberals have controlled the SCOTUS ever since FDR reminded them who is boss
Article I (Congressional Power) says only this about courts "To constitute Tribunals inferior to the supreme Court"
Clearly, this means the Founders did not want Congress to be able to change the number of SC Justices. Can someone point to Letters from ~1800 discussing this issue? My take is the number of justices needs clear a high hurdle to change the number of SC justices. If Congress can constantly change the number of justices, then this would make the three powers unequal.
It does identify a supreme court.
(Article 3, section1: The judicial Power of the United States, shall be vested in one supreme Court, and in such inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish . . . )
Later it identifies that the supreme court will have a chief justice, in that the chief justice is judge in an impeachment trial.
So congress gets to pick what the supreme court is, as long as it has a chief justice.
Maybe 2020 will teach voters that minor detail.
I read Article 3 Section 1 as Congress can only manipulate lesser courts..inferior courts.
Congress has changed the number of SC justices in the past so your reading is not the same as history's reading of Article 3 Section 1.
Well, just as the commerce clause has been misinterpreted.
Very Good !
