Trump Never Told Georgia's Lead Election Investigator To 'Find the Fraud'
He said plenty of other bad things. But more than one quote sourced to anonymous informants has turned out to be wrong.

One of the most damning indictments of President Donald Trump's behavior in the immediate aftermath of the 2020 presidential election was that he allegedly pressured Georgia's lead elections investigator to "find the fraud." The Washington Post first reported this detail on January 9, and countless other mainstream media sites publicized it.
But that reporting was wrong. Trump never used the phrase "find the fraud" during his December phone call with Frances Watson, the chief investigator within the secretary of state's office; moreover, he never promised Watson that she would be a "national hero" if she did discover evidence of fraud.
The Post's article relied on testimony from an anonymous source, since it was believed that no recording of the phone call existed. But Watson discovered an audio file during an effort to retrieve documents for a public records request. This file, which was published last week by The Wall Street Journal, makes clear that the quotes supplied by the anonymous source were erroneous.
During the call, Trump told Watson that she had "the most important job in the country" and that she would be praised "when the right answer comes out." He also made several incorrect statements, and continuously asserted that he had actually won the state of Georgia.
"I won Georgia, I know that, by a lot, and the people know it," said Trump. "Something happened. Something bad happened."
Trump deserves criticism for repeatedly and loudly making this false claim, which eventually culminated in some of this more rabid and deluded supporters assaulting the U.S. Capitol. But the notion that he pressured Watson to specifically uncover evidence of fraud looks much weaker now that a recording of the call has been released.
Trump's other call with Georgian election officials, a transcript of which has been available for months, continues to look quite bad for him: He repeatedly stated an exact number of votes that he would like the investigators to discover. It would not be wrong to conclude that Trump inappropriately exerted pressure on Georgian election officials. But he did not say precisely what the media alleged that he had said, and that matters.
It matters because many White House reporters have increasingly come to rely upon anonymous reporting. The public needs to have confidence that when The Washington Post, The New York Times, CNN, NPR, etc., supply information from a confidential source, that information is accurate. When a source's name is used in an article, readers can place a greater degree of trust in the information—since that person has put his or her reputation on the line—but an anonymous source is shielded from criticism, putting the onus on the journalist to get it right. That clearly didn't happen here.
At a time when the public's trust in traditional media has hit an all-time low, screw-ups like this one certainly don't help.

Sullum hates you so much right now Robbie.
More disinformation from a Drumpf apologist! I hope Robby knows that after this betrayal of the free press, he will never get a job at reputable publication. Goodbye dreams of working for Vice or Buzzfeed!
What about HuffPo?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!
Trump deserves criticism for repeatedly and loudly making this false claim, which eventually culminated in some of this more rabid and deluded supporters assaulting the U.S. Capitol.
And Reason deserves criticism for not being critical of all of the changes outside of the electors clause or any of the data showing that things didn't add up or were completely out of historical comparisons such as voting numbers, bellwether counties, etc. Instead they just push the narrative "government told us all is good, so election was good." Followed by "no need for election audits".

Nope, sorry retard. A sturmbannführer and a Bahn Fuhrer mean very different things... that's why they're spelled differently.
You were trying to call Jesse a Nazi, but instead you called him a railway leader.
What a fucking moron.
Bann... Spell (look it up, ignoramus!)
Fuhrer... Leader
Bahn... Rail car, rail road.
JesseBahnFuhrer as our leader in a fucking SPELLING BEE?!?! JesseBahnFuhrer misspells, and proudly slut-struts its grade-school education, ALL THE TIME! Sarcasmic has given up it seems.
Amen. Very well said.
So the reporters and news organizations that libeled Trump, framing a perhaps guilty man, based on this anonymous source are going to pay a price for their lack of professionalism, how?
Bottom line is DJT made a phone call under the color of the presidency and got caught when the transcript surfaced asking for the vote to be altered. The exact verbiage is nitpicking because the intent was crystal clear.

Only count the legal votes. We should never allow anyone to even suggest that. Lock em up.

I am soooo surprised. And shocked. Surprised and shocked. Or rather, shocked and surprised. And shocked.
"The media lied about something to get Trump," #7,390 in a series.
Right, and Sullum fails to point out, that the MSM continues to shield their fake sources when any honest media business would expose their lying source, for lying to them. But none of these MSM firms do so, which tells you their purpose is political, not to inform the public of the truth, and certainly not to expose the members of the political class they're in bed with.
Wait your telling me that "anonymous source close to trump" isn't the paragon of information integrity?
Don't forget, this story came out before the run off election in order to drive down GOP voters.
Literally the Monday before, if I remember correctly.
I'm more shocked with how many media outlets "independently" verified Trump said something he did not say.
An "anonymous source close to Trump" is about as honest as their fake news. IMHO, it's likely it's John Brennan, who was close to Trump by being in the same city. That's a lot more effective for their purposes than the truth.
Soave - you better dick out when Sullum's around.
Duck out. *Duck*
You were right the first time. This is Reason's equivalent of a size contest.

I've made it a point to never click a Jacob Sullum article ever again. I started doing it a while ago with Shikha and it seems that she's not around these parts anymore. I'm on the fence about whether I'll take this step Suderman.
I can't reward Sullum's disingenous bullshit anymore and nobody else should. Stop clicking the links, stop commenting on his articles, stop providing the "engagement." Sullum is full of shit and doesn't care because he's getting rewarded for it with clicks.
Soave is the main reason I'm still actively engaged with Reason.
I completely agree. See my support group in the roundups
I doubt it makes any difference at all what the comment section engages with. And I still like to read what he has to say on guns and drugs issues.
Agreed. And I would add policing to the list as well. His continuing reporting on the Dennis Tuttle and Rhogena Nicholas shooting in Houston has been very useful. I'm still amazed (although I really shouldn't be) how little coverage this has gotten given the insane fallout from it that is still going on.
I appreciated the coverage of those stories but what I've learned over the past five months is that I simply can't trust what Sullum has to say. Once he's identified a narrative he is going to stick with it and frame everything that happens in the context of that narrative.
I'm not going to read what he says because I don't trust him to be truthful. He does not deserve the reward of my time because he apparently lacks integrity.
Reason is establishment media and as such a charity case.
Clicks don't mean much to them.
This.
Rich Uncle Charles pays far better for a magazine full of the shit that he wants to read than pandering to libertarians ever does.
Their purpose is basically to present the illusion "reality has a liberal (leftist) bias" as if it were true.
They are a niche, ostensibly outside the mainstream yet perpetually beholden to the mainstream narrative.
Can you blame them? It's easy (if two bit) money.
Sullum's fine away from the Trump stuff.
Shikia's not only got massive TDS but her immigration stuff got to be grating even to me - and I'm pro-open borders (sort of).
"Soave is the main reason I’m still actively engaged with Reason."
To be sure.
I'm also done with Sullum.
My narrative! What have you done to my narrative?!?!?
/Sullum
And Soave, this is why I like you even when I hate you and your 'to be sure's' - relying on anymous reporting *is* bullshit and should be called out even when used to smear the people you hate.
Why haven't any of the people in the Georgia video been interviewed on tv? They've completely disappeared. Did the police even talk to them? If what they did was innocent why not explain that?
The D.A. in georgia even opened a criminal case regarding this call.
Of course, the activists have all decried following existing procedures when it does something they don’t like. https://www.andropow.com
For progs, the proper procedure is whatever benefits them. So basically, the rule of law is dead, or at least in the ICU on life support.
Looks like an open and shut case of election interference.
There was/is no fraud.
Say that over and over while looking in a mirror.
No widespread fraud.
That is what they deny; what was/is accused is just enough fraud to steal the election.

Trump deserves criticism for repeatedly and loudly making this false claim"
not looking into claims of fraud is not the same as proving a statement false
But they recounted the same votes they initially counted!!! That's all audits are for! Not to disposition ballot validity - government, leftists, reason.
Unless, of course, those audits are recall signatures in CA. Then we must be incredibly strict!
Yep, I learned something from this election. What we saw on the Atlanta video https://thefederalist.com/2020/12/07/no-the-georgia-vote-counting-video-was-not-debunked-not-even-close/ was the dem operatives "backfilling" the paper ballots to match the machine counts. I.E. they were creating ballots so the recounts wouldn't find anything.
And/or trashing ballots with the wrong guy's name on them and hauling away the evidence. Because once trashed, they won't show up in any counts or recounts.
"...more than one quote sourced to anonymous informants has turned out to be wrong."
You could have knocked me over with a feather.
Serious question:
Which stories to make Trump look bad that have been based on anonymous sources have turned out to be true?
Q: "Which stories to make Trump look bad that have been based on anonymous sources have turned out to be true?"
A: All of them.
HAHAHAHA!
Madja think!

You spelled "deliberate lie at a level that qualifies as a campaign contribution 'in kind' to the democrat party" as "erroneous".
"The public needs to have confidence that when The Washington Post, The New York Times, CNN, NPR, etc., supply information from a confidential source, that information is accurate."
The public knows that even when attributing a named source, those political propaganda machines are lying.
They go with anonymous sources because their names have no credibility any longer.
They lied about Trump for four years.
They told the truth. It's just idiots choose to cover their ears rather than open them.

It's like you don't even see the article you're commenting on.
“Trump's other call with Georgian election officials, a transcript of which has been available for months, continues to look quite bad for him: He repeatedly stated an exact number of votes that he would like the investigators to discover.”
You don't think that kind of back-room wrangling goes on in every close election?
I see no reason not to believe that Trump believed he had won and that he wanted the to find enough additional legitimate votes or fraudulent/invalid votes to validate his belief on that score. So unless he was asking anyone to do anything illegal, I don't really see the big deal. I don't believe for a minute that Hillary or her campaign wasn't making calls like that in late 2016. Comes off as a bit pathetic and desperate to me, but that's the shitty game that is politics.
Well, we know Stacey Abrams is still making calls like that.
So???
What are you trying to imply?
He's hoping his TDS-addled lying might be overlooked
Discover, not create, not manufacture, not fraudulently procure.
The first 2/3rds of that quote are an unbridled opinion. The final 3rd is not a crime. If I believe 50k votes were stolen from me but the election margin is only 5k votes, I need not ask for the other 45k to have the result match the correct conclusion.

"But that reporting was
wronga total fabrication for the purposes of turning a tight election"They lied Robbie. And because they lied, your entire profession looks worse. And if they want to haggle about the why, and taking that stance scares you, "a lie" is dead on accurate and legally defensible.
So while I genuinely do appreciate the article and your effort, you really need to go stronger than "wrong" when your own skin is in this game.

This. This is what journalists are supposed to do. You have to be honest to a fault so that when you deliver the earth-shattering expose, the world will believe it rather than dismiss it as a lie.
They are not a profession, they are a trade.
Like streetwalkers, only less clean and less honest.
69% of the American people still believed that Saddam Hussein was personally complicit in 9/11--six months after the invasion of Iraq. A majority of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents all believed that to be true.
The news media was telling us about yellowcake in Niger at the time--according to unnamed sources. The government was showing us pictures of mobile WMD labs. The news media reported this and more like it as if it should be taken more or less for granted.
The worst part of it wasn't that people were misinformed. It's that this false news altered the substance of the debate. No longer was the question about whether it was in the best interests of the United States to bomb, invade, and occupy Iraq until the cows come home. No longer was the question about what removing Saddam Hussein from power would mean stratetically in regards to Iran.
When WMD didn't turn up in Iraq, in any amounts necessary to justify the war, anyway, I was as surprised as anyone. Why would Saddam Hussein resist weapons inspections when pretending he had something to hide clearly meant his doom? Turns out that megalomaniacs are irrational. Who knew?
So, how do we know what to believe when the news media may be and often is reporting false information?
This is why it's so important to have our stance on the issues grounded in principle. If it wasn't in the best interests of the United State to invade Iraq, then we shouldn't have done so--regardless of whether Saddam Hussein had WMD. My opposition to invading Iraq had nothing to do with WMD. WMD was a red herring. My opposition was based on the principle that the United States going to war in Iraq was against our best interests. It was also against our interests for Obama to go to war over WMD in Syria--regardless of whether Assad used WMD.
Within the proper purview of democracy, the voters' concerns are entirely appropriate for lawmakers to consider stands as a principle--regardless of whether Trump said this or that over the phone. The principle that trespassing on public property doesn't justify shooting an unarmed protester remains the same--regardless of the particulars in any specific case. The fact is that populism is a reaction to elitism--and Trump doing this, that, or the other thing can do nothing to change that general rule. We need to focus less on what the media reports and more on our principles.
Facts are important. Our principles need to be grounded in facts, facts from history and science, demonstrated principles in economics and philosophy, but none of those principles or facts change because the news media reports something false in their news narrative instead of the truth. To be human is to be subject to perspective, and that means a certain amount of uncertainty is inescapable. There isn't anything foolish about people who are hesitant to believe everything they're told by the media, and there isn't anything sophisticated about being gullible.
w/o making light of all your well-thought words, when *has* the press told the truth as a policy?
Wars have to be justified?

Why would Saddam Hussein resist weapons inspections when pretending he had something to hide clearly meant his doom? Turns out that megalomaniacs are irrational. Who knew?
I don't recall the exact details but there was documentation or testimony to the effect that Saddam himself believed he had weapons of mass destruction. Inept brutal authoritarians are often told lies by loyal sycophants and fearful subjects. Who (except the little boy unwittingly brave enough to ask why the Emperor is naked) knew?
I don't know where you got that information but it isn't true.
Saddam's handler - from capture to execution - says he knew he didn't have a viable WMD program, but kept up the impression that he did. He did this because he was more concerned with what his neighbors would do, if he didn't have them, than what he thought America would do, if he did.
That the west thought he had a robust WMD program was his intention. That we acted on it was what surprised him.
After all, he had kept us fooled for twelve years. After the destruction of any he had - don't forget he used some against the Kurds - was part of the cease-fire agreement.
Just to insert a point of order...the Iraq War was a fully bi-partisan deal and duly authorized by Congress. May have been wrong, but it was not an executive war, nor was it some idea Bush made up and sold to the country. Contemporaneous quotes from many prominent Democrats said Saddam needed to be addressed and that it was feared that he had WMD.
CNN: "The lack of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq contradicts years of intelligence indicating Saddam had such weapons, which also was the conclusion of officials in the Clinton administration. "The consensus was the same, from the Clinton administration to the Bush administration," she [Sen. Hillary Clinton] said. "It was the same intelligence belief that our allies and friends around the world shared.
Check out the House and Senate roll calls for the votes on the Iraq War. Pretty much every prominent Democrat voted in favor of the actions, including Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Harry Reid, and Joe Biden.
In the House, 82 (39.2%) of 209 Democratic Representatives voted for the resolution.
Indeed, in the Senate Democrats could have stymied the whole thing if they had not gone over to the other side on the vote. It passed 77-23, but 29 (58%) of 50 Democratic senators voted for the resolution. If Democrats had voted as a bloc against the war, it would not have passed (i.e., resolution fails 48-52).
Senate Democrats voting for the resolution were:
Sens. Baucus (D-MT), Bayh (D-IN), Biden (D-DE), Breaux (D-LA), Cantwell (D-WA), Carnahan (D-MO), Carper (D-DE), Cleland (D-GA), Clinton (D-NY), Daschle (D-SD), Dodd (D-CT), Dorgan (D-ND), Edwards (D-NC), Feinstein (D-CA), Harkin (D-IA), Hollings (D-SC), Johnson (D-SD), Kerry (D-MA), Kohl (D-WI), Landrieu (D-LA), Lieberman (D-CT), Lincoln (D-AR), Miller (D-GA), Nelson (D-FL), Nelson (D-NE), Reid (D-NV), Rockefeller (D-WV), Schumer (D-NY), and Torricelli (D-NJ).
To the disappointment of some antiwar liberals in her Democratic base, Clinton, the former first lady, voted in favor of the Iraq war resolution in October 2002.
"Obviously, I've thought about that a lot in the months since," she said. "No, I don't regret giving the president authority because at the time it was in the context of weapons of mass destruction, grave threats to the United States, and clearly, Saddam Hussein had been a real problem for the international community for more than a decade."
This is a distinction without a difference. He pressured them to "find the right answer."
He's guilty as sin of trying to pressure them to change the outcome regardless of the bullshit spin you put on it.
Fuck Trump and every cultist still defending that sack of shit.
No, he didn't. You're quoting anonymous sources dummy. He asked them to investigate the fraud. He asked them to check the machine counts (knowing one machine had already been missed in the original canvassing that included thousands of votes).

In legal theory, offering a new interpretation of an on-the-record quote does not constitute evidence. Unless Trump literally said "whip me up some votes or fabricate some reasons to disqualify Biden votes" or some other variation, you're doing nothing more than talking out of your ass.
The truth is Trump consistently alleged fraud occurred in 2020 (making this allegation is not a crime) and then he asked investigators to investigate his fraud allegations (also not a crime, to investigate is literally their job). That's the absolute spin-free reality. The spin occurs when you make up quotes or reinterpret actual quotes into a statement that was never uttered.
It says all anyone need to know about you that after swallowing one lie from your abusive spouse of a party, your response to finding out they were deceptive is to rush to their defense. Your Irish Kisses are well earned.
"This is a distinction without a difference. He pressured them to “find the right answer.”.."
No, you lying piece of lefty shit, he did not.
As if the correct answer is a bad thing.
"Fuck Trump and every cultist still defending that sack of shit."
And TDS-addled lefty shits ought to be fucked with a running chain saw.
Do you want him to find the wrong answer?
The one thing we can all be grateful for is the Democrats ability to stop any forensic audits in the contested counties. They knew how badly it would embarrass President Trump if they allowed it and nothing was found. It proved they had a heart. They weren't hiding anything.
Didn't trump get the memo; Questioning 600,000 votes that went 94% in Biden's favor (at odds with *everything*) is 'terrorism'!
EVERYONE knows the election was rigged. It will either take transparency and proof up the wazoo to prove otherwise or the blatantly imbecilic ignorance of a lefty cheerleader to *pretend* otherwise.

Model TJJ2000 Dictatorbot believes that the USA already is (and should be) a 1-party dictatorshit! That the USA HAS BEEN a 1-party dictatorshit for some 200 years!!! There is NO point in trying to persuade the Model TJJ2000 Dictatorbot of ANYTHING! Almost ALL of the circuits of the Model TJJ2000 Dictatorbot have gone kaput, big-time!
Model TJJ2000 Dictatorbot is lusting after an UPGRADE to its rusting old body! Wants to be upgraded to Model TJJ20666 Dictatorbot, and run for POTUS in 2024, with Alex Jones as the VEEP of Model TJJ20666 Dictatorbot!!! Be ye WARNED!!! And a three-fer!
Do you recall the awesome enchanter named “Tim”, in “Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail”? The one who could “summon fire without flint or tinder”? Well, you remind me of Tim… You are an enchanter who can summon persuasion without facts or logic!
So I discussed your awesome talents with some dear personal friends on the Reason staff… Accordingly…
Reason staff has asked me to convey the following message to you:
Hi Fantastically Talented Author:
Obviously, you are a silver-tongued orator, and you also know how to translate your spectacular talents to the written word! We at Reason have need for writers like you, who have near-magical persuasive powers, without having to write at great, tedious length, or resorting to boring facts and citations.
At Reason, we pay above-market-band salaries to permanent staff, or above-market-band per-word-based fees to freelancers, at your choice. To both permanent staff, and to free-lancers, we provide excellent health, dental, and vision benefits. We also provide FREE unlimited access to nubile young groupies, although we do firmly stipulate that persuasion, not coercion, MUST be applied when taking advantage of said nubile young groupies.
Please send your resume, and another sample of your writings, along with your salary or fee demands, to ReasonNeedsBrilliantlyPersuasiveWriters@Reason.com .
Thank You! -Reason Staff
Just a one-fer this time.

but muh insurrection!
At a time when the public's trust in traditional media has hit an all-time low, screw-ups like this one certainly don't help.
And what part do you personally have to do with this Soave. You're no innocent.
They always throw him under the bus so the globo-homos get mad at him instead of them.
The editors are fucking cowards.
The editors here are evil shitbags
Proving for the one millionth time that the press is dishonest corrupt lying shitbags who pimped old man Biden. Now we've got a border crisis, more debt, bad election and labor laws, and they are going to raise taxes and restrict firearms. Good job.
Now we’ve got a border crisis, more debt, bad election and labor laws, and they are going to raise taxes and restrict firearms.
And that’s just the first 100 days plan.
Don't forget the destruction of the election process
Not that Reason is going to mention HR1.
Yesterday, saw regular gas at $4.09 per gallon.
Well, I never!
Luckily he's still wrong about everything else, though, right?
DANGEROUSLY wrong.
And he grabbed pussy, and was a Russian plant, and told people to drink bleach, and tweeted his blood was a vaccine, and, and, and...
Just search "No, Trump didn't..." and you'll find a whole raft of things the press claimed he did, which he did not.
The tag team of turd and Tony is here often enough to prove how gullible lefty shits can be.
At a time when the public's trust in traditional media has hit an all-time low, screw-ups like this one certainly don't help
It's not a screw-up when they deliberately lie, Robby.
Maybe you're honest, but read the dreck that your colleagues pump out (ENB, Sullum) if you want to see what paid hacks read like.
Moronic, and blatantly mendacious statements like that are why Rico will never get any respect from me.
The little shit thinks he's clever.
So Republicans around the country want to keep minorities from voting to insure the election integrity. No proof of election fraud but there is a need to make it harder for people to vote, a need to make minorities stand in line longer if they want to vote. In Georgia, and other places I suspect, there is a straight case of election interference and people want to quibble. Was he really trying to pressure the officials. Yes, he was. This were we need new laws, you want to talk to a state election official, it has to be recorded and released to the public.
LOL.
"So Republicans around the country want to keep minorities from voting to insure the election integrity."
Why do lefty shits lie so transparently?
"Anyone trying to restrict our phony-baloney ballot stuffing is racist."
You seem to have a very low opinion regarding minorities. Probably because you live in one of the whitest states in the country.
But I live in one of the most mixed cities in that state. My city has worked very hard to make sure that every citizen eligible to vote gets that opportunity.
So what do you know about minorities that I don't.
"...So what do you know about minorities that I don’t."
Given your mental age approximating 15, probably just about everything.
Clearer Moderation4ever:
"Minorities are too fucking stupid to obtain ID or register to vote, and everyone has to stand in line longer because opening more polling stations and running them effectively isn't a thing."
First I have always been willing to accept ID requirement, but those ID requirement must be fair and sensible. The purpose of the ID must identify that the person presenting themselves is the person in the pollbook. Many forms of ID will do this and should be accepted.
There is no reason for not making voting more accessible by mail-in voting and longer early voting. The 2020 election has been shown through rigorous checks court abdication to be both secure and accurate.
Finally we have evidence of the attempt at election manipulation in the 2020 election. It was the former President attempting to strong arm officials. This should therefore be the focus of new laws.
"Many forms of ID will do this and should be accepted."
Yeah, you're going to have to elaborate on these "many forms of ID" before we can accept your support of an ID requirement at face value.
The purpose of showing an ID at the polls is to link a name with a visual image. You can only vote if your name is in the poll book and that is established at registration. When voting you show an ID with your picture and your name. That confirms for the poll worker that your face matches the name in the pollbook. So all you need is a ID with your picture and your name. A drivers license, a passport, many student IDs, If you work for a large company, the military, a unit of government, a hospital you likely have a photo ID that provides the needed information, your picture and your name. Many states require recipients of the social safety net programs to have photo IDs. All of these could be legitimate IDs for the stated purpose of identifying you at the poll.
The fact is in person voter fraud is very rare. Independent studies confirm these and it could be easily identified if a person comes in to vote and the poll book shows they have already voted. The rarity of occurrences would suggest a minimum level of response is needed. So an ID is OK if the ID requirement is easily met.
A driver's license, if securely issued. Remember, illegal aliens routinely use fake identities, and will end up with drivers licenses under those fake identities, if care isn't taken.
But RealID IS supposed to take care of that.
A passport, sure.
Most student ID's? No. The educational institution won't care who you are, they just want to make sure the person showing up to be educated is the person who the tuition was paid for, they're not terribly concerned about fake ID's where the check cleared, or whether the students really are citizens.
"The fact is in person voter fraud is very rare. Independent studies confirm these and it could be easily identified if a person comes in to vote and the poll book shows they have already voted."
I'll actually agree that, in theory, in person vote fraud should be relatively uncommon. (Though it does happen.) Absentee vote fraud is really where it's at.
Sorry all. Spell check got me "abdication" should be adjudications.
A little long to get paid 5 cents, don't you think?
Republicans are making laws and places to vote that only affect minorities? Have you ever voted? There are not separate places just for minorities to vote. 3,069 counties oversaw over 130,000 polling places and coordinated over 700,000 poll workers. The most restricting circumstance in polls is finding enough poll workers. State laws govern where polling places can be located. The number of polling places is based on the number of active registered voters in a county. Each county is responsible for the cost of voting. The only time there are long lines is when people fail to take advantage of early voting or when Democrats bring in bus loads of voters to one poll and have the media there to show the lines. If you are dumb enough to wait until late on election evening to turn up to vote you deserve to stand in line. If voters want more polls in their district they need to register early to vote so the county can count them. If you believe minorities don't have ID you are definitely a lefty. When Georgia first passed voter ID laws Democrats took it to court. The judge stated if they could find one case of the requirement to show an ID that disenfranchised on voter he would decide against the law. The could not find one.
BTW, one of the lefty rags or TV "news" shows, not but a couple of weeks ago, had it that Trump was nearing criminal charges over exactly this 'crime'.
There we go:
"Georgia Prosecutors Open Criminal Inquiry Into Trump’s Efforts to Subvert Election
[...]
State officials are being instructed to preserve documents related to “attempts to influence” the Georgia election, just weeks after former President Donald J. Trump asked an elections official to “find” votes."
https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/10/us/politics/trump-georgia-investigation.html
Yes, that bastion of honesty and neutrality peddling a steaming pile of lefty shit!
Not only that, but somehow, white supremacy and Trump are responsible for all of the murders, in broad daylight, of senior Asians on lefty city streets.
. . .by young black guys . . .
You have to understand the NYT...run by bolsheviks who cheered on Trotsky killing millions in the Ukraine and lynching of Italian Americans in New Orleans..its all about "old world" revenge in their eyes..always has been.
President Trump has been near criminal charges for over 4 years. Donald Trump may be the most convicted man never charged in America. The disconnect between legal analysis and legal reality matters little in today’s media. For four years, they have supplied a stream of allegations, all described as conclusive, to feed readers’ and viewers’ insatiable appetites. There is no crime of incitement for legal analysts who exaggerate or oversimplify criminal provisions; the public can be whipped into a frenzy with claims of easy prosecutions or slam-dunk charges. Many people are addicted to rage, and these claims, even if illusory, feed that addiction. It is all entertainment until someone actually tries to bring a prosecution — and that is when reality sets in.
What's bad about, "Find the fraud"? Isn't that their job?
In case anyone is curious, here's an academic talk given by a veteran journalist who details, in great detail, all the patently false headlines and articles written about Trump, why they were written, which major news organizations wrote them and how their journalism standards gargle balls.
Great video.
This is the kind of thing White Knight, Moderation4evar, Sarcasmic/Sqrlsy and the Jeff complex needs to watch... but they won't.
This (below) is the kind of thing that conservaturds (who are allergic to truth) won't even skim-read,
http://www.churchofsqrls.com/Do_Gooders_Bad/
Sorry, I don't do links. Send me the name of the journalist and the organization they work for, I will look it up myself.
Sharyl Atkisson, who was unpersoned by the legacy media after criticizing the kid gloved with which the Obama presidency was handled.
Thank you. Took a look at some of her stuff. I feel she is trying to overlook much Trump lying. It is easy to say all politicians lie. I think it is more correct to say that many politicians spin the truth in the direction they want it to go. Trump was much more of a person that would lie to your face, even when he and you both knew it was a lie.
Look at his claim that he won the election and there was election fraud. He is more than happy to say that in public. Neither he nor his representatives have been willing to say the same under oath, when he or they could be held for perjury.
"...I feel she is trying to overlook much Trump lying..."
Given the severity of your TDS, this isn't at all surpising.
She does not expressly overlook Trump lying. She discusses journalistic standards on how the word 'lying' has been traditionally used, and why it was such a rarity when reporting on politics. She may be a complete MAGA-hat wearing Trumpy McTrumpist. I have no idea, but her very well researched chronicles of media malfeasance in regards to how Trump was covered is second to none in the talk she gave.
My favorite was the clarification and editorial doubling down by NBC news-- trying to frame with the definition of 'is' is, when they were called out for their falsehoods regarding Trump's Christmastime visit to the troops.
If an anonymous source tells you something untrue, and you run with it, do you have to honor the anonymity? Why? Afraid to discourage more lying?
Sounds like a good rule to me.
If you are stupid enough to 'run with it', is there any reason you should not be fired?
“He said plenty of other bad things”, and plenty of other “bad” or mean tweets.
Reason concludes that those bad words and mean tweets are all worth the authoritarian, technological socialism takedown of the republic.
Gotta love the free minds at Reason never being able to communicate Trump's damning acts of malfeasance beyond: "he said other bad things" without further explanation.
What’s bad about, “Find the fraud”? Isn’t that their job?
Jesus, Roberta, don't you know anything? Sure, when you or I say "Find the fraud," we mean "Find the fraud." But when Trump says "Find the fraud", he means, "Whip me up some fraudulent votes to put me over the top." Just like when he asks his supporters to "peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard" at the Capitol, what me means is "Storm the Capitol, lynch Nancy Pelosi and Mike Pence, and burn the motherfucker to the ground."
What *he* means is . . .
Well said. Every leftist theory for "Trump did a crime" requires you to believe Trump speaks in such complex coded language that words like "find" can secretly mean "fabricate" and words like "peaceful" can secretly mean "violent." Under that standard, me vehemently denying I committed a crime is tantamount to an uncoerced and unequivocal confession.
"Trump Never Told Georgia's Lead Election Investigator To 'Find the Fraud'."
That doesn't matter.
The story excites the Biden voters.
Both of them.
Posthumously.
"One of the most damning indictments of President Donald Trump's behavior in the immediate aftermath of the 2020 presidential election was that he allegedly pressured Georgia's lead elections investigator to "find the fraud." "
I don't really find anything damning about it. If someone had an item stolen and then called up the city's property crimes detective to say "find the thief", I really don't think anyone would consider it to be a big deal.
The fact that Trump believes that there was massive fraud in a few of the swing states isn't a surprise (his position has been extremely clear on that). If a campaign believes that there was massive fraud that has been insufficiently investigated, I am really not sure why people are shocked when it turns out the campaign is cajoling the investigators to uncover the fraud. Other than it being a bit weird that Trump would make the call himself, this doesn't seem to be particularly noteworthy.
To be clear, I would consider such a phone call to be absolutely worthless, as no concrete suggestions were offered for how to uncover the fraud and presumably the investigator had already followed up on all significant leads. Alas, demanding results for possibly impossible tasks, with no concrete suggestion of how to go about it seems to be a common feature of modern politics.
You have to get out your MSM trump decoder ring to know why it is bad.
Oh man, the decoder ring I got out of a cereal box broke recently. Maybe someone who still has theirs can let me in on the secret?
If any of those outlets print anything WRT Trump, it's a lie.
Because dog whistles or something.
You're behind the tech curve: These days the MSM use retinal and cochlear decoder implants; Rather than manually having to decode what Trump says, it's automatically translated before they're even exposed to it.
That's why they'll literally listen to a recording of a call, and tell you that Trump said something, though any sane person can tell he said something else.
NYT, Wapo, CNN, and NPR are not actual journalist organizations...once you accept that it's all very clear.
Bolsheviks love controlling the media...its what they do
https://twitter.com/ConceptualJames/status/1371612943872315395?s=19
When you start going backwards beyond the writing of the bogus story into the situation that became the bogus story and pair that up with how we ended up with this retraction, it's... really something. Journalistic malpractice might be the least scandalous part.
https://twitter.com/JackPosobiec/status/1371562636127649792?s=19
Why did the Georgia Secretary of State delete the full audio of the call from Trump in the first place?
It was only later found in a trash folder on a state computer
They tried to cover the whole thing up
Right, they lied about the contents of the call, and tried to delete the recording after to avoid exposure.
In Georgia, it is pretty well known that the City of Atlanta, Fulton County, and Gwinnett County are shot through with corruption. So many elected officials from those areas have been charged by the FBI with corruption over the years. It would not at all be surprising if it was someday discovered that elections officials in those counties did something really bad.
In a run-off election when EVERYTHING hinged on the Senate seats, I find it very hard to fathom that the Republican candidate for PSC District 4 received more votes than did 3 of the 4 Senate candidates. I have to admit the possibility that thousands of people would vote for Jon Ossoff *and* Bubba whatever his name was, and that there is a possibility that thousands of people would vote for Republican Bubba for PSC but not vote for either Republican for Senate. Sure, it's possible. I'm just dumbfounded by it, so much so that if it came out later that somehow 15 or 20k votes for Republican senators were erased but the perp forgot to erase a similar number of votes for Bubba down-ballot, it would make a lot more sense than the alternative voting patterns.
As has been previously related, Georgia recently eliminated the straight ticket option when voting; You have to individually vote for each office.
The result is that, if you're manufacturing ballots, it costs twice as much effort to vote for two offices on those ballots, as for one. So there's a strong motive to not bother rigging down ticket races.
Jon Ossoff (D)
2,211,603 50.2%
David Perdue (R)
2,194,578 49.8%
(a total of 4406181 votes, and a margin of 17k votes)
Raphael Warnock(D)
2,230,231 50.61%
Kelly Loeffler*(R)
2,176,048 49.39%
(a total of 4406279 votes, and a margin of 54k votes)
You'd think that someone voting for Ossoff would also have voted for Warnock and vice-versa, and similarly that a Perdue voter was also a Loeffler voter and vice-versa.
But 20k fewer people voted for Ossoff than Warnock. There is a similar 20k vote differential in Perdue over Loeffler, so the implication seems to be that 20k people voted for Perdue AND Warnock, which I find virtually unfathomable.
Meanwhile, there was another state-wide race, for PSC
McDonald, Lauren Bubba i (R)
2,214,057 50.78%
Blackman, Daniel (D)
2,145,636 49.22%
(a total of 4359693 votes)
So it seems that about 46.5k people voted for Senators but didn't vote for a PSC. That is in itself not unusual, as it is not rare for people to only vote on the "important" seats and skip down-ballot votes.
The AMAZING thing to me is that despite 46.5k FEWER votes total, that 20k MORE people voted for a Republican for the PSC seat than voted for Senator Perdue and 38k MORE than Senator Loeffler. Heck even 3k MORE people voted for the Republican PSC candidate than voted for Jon Ossoff.
But pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Nothing to see here! Absolutely no shenanigans could possibly have occurred.
20k people voted for Perdue AND Warnock, which I find virtually unfathomable.
There's your "no mean tweets" voter (I also can't grasp why a decorum Republican would vote for a wife-beating Communist, but some people get funny when HISTORY!! is involved).
The AMAZING thing to me is that despite 46.5k FEWER votes total, that 20k MORE people voted for a Republican for the PSC seat than voted for Senator Perdue and 38k MORE than Senator Loeffler.
I would consider this further evidence that Trump totally screwed the pooch two weeks prior. A decent chunk said, "fuck those guys" but didn't punish the down-ballot candidate because of local concerns.
That's some of the most enthusiastic state/msm dick sucking I've ever seen
Mary Rose Woods, please call your office.
"...The public needs to have confidence that when The Washington Post, The New York Times, CNN, NPR, etc., supply information from a confidential source, that information is accurate..."
No, the public doesn't.
This is not an isolated incident; it's the default mode of the lot of them and began becoming more and more obvious beginning in 2008.
The public has to understand that the lot of them are DNC-propaganda outlets and take that into consideration, especially WRT ANYTHING concerning Trump.
'.......including 'and' and 'the'...'
What the public needs is to know that, the moment the media say "anonymous source", they should stop listening.
Anyone remember the reporting of G.H.W. Bush, in 1992, telling a group of POW/MIA families to "Shut up and let me talk"?
The media made it sound like he was directing that to the families, when it was to a reporter, who kept interrupting him.
During the same election campaign, he was ridiculed as being out of touch, for not knowing how UPC scanners worked, when it turned out he was impressed by a new kind of scanner that could assemble even a torn code.
These were falsely presented to the public, even when only a small amount of investigating could reveal the real context.
Media in-kind contributions to LieCheatSteal party candidates, through deceptive reporting, has been going on for a very long time.
There are lots of examples for Trump. Remember when he took a hat to autograph from this crippled kid, and threw it to the crowd instead of giving it back to the kid?
Oh, wait, turns out they used a specific camera angle, lied about what happened, and another camera angle shows that he tossed it back to the kid.
We had 4 years of frauds like this, sometimes they'd fess up, sometimes they'd stick with the story even after everybody present went on record saying they were lying.
When they did 'fess up, it was below the fold on Pg. 10.
Lets hope, new government will bring prosperity to USA.
Everything the "new government" has done so far will only destroy prosperity and end our civil rights. You are brainwashed.
Spending trillions in non-existent money will not bring prosperity, but will cause inflation and destroy businesses.
Bringing millions of illegal over the border will destroy wages, bring more unemployment and burden schools and the welfare state, which will destroy prosperity.
New sweeping government regulations will destroy prosperity.
New higher taxes will destroy businesses, especially small business and destroy prosperity.
$300 extra dollar on unemployment benefits will never bring the prosperity of a real job.
Attacks on the 1st amendment will not bring prosperity.
Attacks on the second amendment will not bring prosperity.
The US is in for a tough time ahead. Again, you are brainwashed. You must get your news from CNN or MSNBC.
They complain when Trump calls them "Fake News" then time and again they are proven to be FAKE NEWS.
The December phone call, described by a person familiar with it who spoke on the condition of anonymity in order to describe the sensitive nature of the discussion, is yet another link in the chain of the extraordinary pressure campaign waged by Trump on state officials as he sought to overturn the results of the November election, which he lost to Democrat Joe Biden.

"Trump deserves criticism for repeatedly and loudly making this false claim..."
I’m sorry, Reason, are you:
1. Blind,
2. Stupid, or
3. Evil?
Other than the people arrested for voter fraud, the videos of voter fraud, all the affidavits of voter fraud, and the breaking of laws by making up the rules as they went, here’s an article that you, Reason, keep ignoring:
https://time.com/5936036/secret-2020-election-campaign/
-An An-Cap who wouldn’t have voted for Trump with a gun to his head
"Trump deserves criticism for repeatedly and loudly making this false claim"
So where's the proof this claim is false? Unless all the documented, under pain of prosecution for perjury, irregularities are investigated, and the Dominion computers undergo a forensic audit with the software used in the election, there's no proof. Heck, the Antrim County forensics audit of their Dominion voting shows their election was hacked, for those who don't believe counting the same electronic votes 3 times with vastly different results isn't enough evidence there was fraud.
It's not just that there's no proof that the claim is false. There's also no proof that it's KNOWINGLY false. Not every falsehood is a deliberate lie. Sometimes people are just wrong. If I'm taking a math test and forget to carry a decimal, I didn't lie about math, I just got the question wrong. In this case, Trump may be right to claim fraud. He may be wrong to claim fraud, in which case his being wrong is not a sinful act if he arrived at his position by honest misunderstanding or misbelief.
Furthermore, the only evidence really being put forth to claim Trump is wrong are court cases that never considered the merits of the evidence, but that were instead dismissed for laches and other procedural grounds.
Used to be journalists didn't just get to decide what the facts are without a shred of evidence to back it up. Used to be journalists had to avoid assuming a person's motives. Now journalists like Robby don't need to show their evidence and they are mind readers who can declare what a person's motives are, based solely on their ability to read and discern the thoughts of others through extra sensory perception.
Even if he had said that -- if he believed there was fraud, and asked Georgia officials to "look for it," what's the problem with that? If he's wrong they wouldn't find any. But what's the problem in asking?
Exactly. If he's correct that there was fraud than asking to "find the fraud" amounts to telling election officials to do the right thing and not affirm a stolen election. If he is incorrect and there was no fraud or not enough fraud to change the result it is still within his right to ask that it be investigated and there is no illicit request or profer of a quid-pro-quo or solicitation of criminality in asking someone to "find" fraud if you believe it does exist.
The only way this "find the fraud" quote is criminal is if you assume that Trump doesn't actually mean "find" when he says "find the fraud" but instead means "fabricate the fraud". Since no evidence exists to support the claim Trump was using the term "find" as a code word for "make up" or "fabricate" there is absolutely zero to support the idea he was pressuring the officials to partake in any illicit activity. Far too many leftist theories about how Trump is a bad guy are predicated on the idea that he speaks in the euphemisms of a mob boss, instead of the more likely reality that he's a blunt and temperamental person with a narrow vocabulary who tends to say what he means, albeit in a jarringly inartful way.
Trump making a call to ask for an investigation is within his rights as a candidate. It was not likely to change the outcome regardless if a thorough investigation was performed. The same with if any court actually heard the evidence instead of deciding to not hear the various cases on technical grounds.
I can understand how Trump voters feel that there is a double standard, that the media used their partisan bias to spin the narrative for their political aims. How the media is attempting to brand and label anyone who is not to the extreme left as some sort of nutcase.
I have a harder time understanding how anyone could case a vote for either Biden or Trump. The farce of the two major political parties should be enough for a massive exodus from the two major parties towards a multi-party state. The dishonesty of the two major parties only eclipsed by the dishonest corporate media.
Because Trump isn't a Republican, thank goodness, and was clearly the best choice available, by a galactically wide margin.
But, hey, no more mean tweets, right?
Yes the politicians and political pundits mock populism. But populism is what should be the norm. Populism is fulfilling the will of the people (as long as that will is Constitutional), not dictating from on high.
Well to be fair the made up quote "find the fraud" was a legitimate request.
Since it was visible in plain sight it should have been "prosecute the fraud"
But wow Robbie just realizing this was all made up? Golly Gee Whiz what a rube
Well, Reason spent five years bashing the total bejeezus out of Donald Trump, so all the staffers should be happy with Joe Biden. It's one thing to go after this or that Trump policy, but most of the time it was as personal as the mainstream media. Once upon a time, for many decades, Reason was a great magazine espousing liberty and free market ideals. Then the staff spent way too much time in California and DC and drank too much kool aid.
"Trump's other call with Georgian election officials, a transcript of which has been available for months, continues to look quite bad for him: He repeatedly stated an exact number of votes that he would like the investigators to discover. It would not be wrong to conclude that Trump inappropriately exerted pressure on Georgian election officials."
Nowhere did Trump ask election officials to do anything illicit. The only thing he is guilty of is believing he won and asking those officials to look into fraud to see if there was fraud sufficient enough that, if exposed and negated, would affirm the outcome he believed was correct in a fair and honest election.
If you actually read the transcript, it's pretty clear Trump wasn't telling anyone to make up fake votes or commit election fraud. He listed about a dozen irregularities he believed were big enough to cover the margin of victory and he asked the election officials to look into those irregularities. His comments essentially amoint to "I know I'm the rightful victor of this election and I know I was cheated a dozen different ways by your state's faulty election procedures, but rather than making you admit your election procedures facilitated a dozen different types of fraud, I'll only ask you to look into the bare minimum to reach what I believe is the truthful conclusion, that I won."
Most people that feel they are the victims of an act of fraud aren't exactly happy about it (perhaps even pissed off), so it's understandable that Trump would be blunt about his intentions. Brevity is not a crime (in many cases it's a virtue). Opposing fraud is not a crime (it is,again, virtuous). Trump's only crime is believing he won. IF he is right to believe this, than there is zero wrong in him seeking justice in blunt terms. IF he is wrong to believe this, and the election irregularities are not enough to overturn the result, its still not a crime to ask for transparency in an election and rule out the possibility that fraud occurred. Attempting to criminalize ones beliefs that fraud occurred (whether a sound belief or not) is still an attempt to criminalize an opinion. Criminalizing an opinion is nothing close to a libertarian value.
It would behoove Soave to next time just let the story be about the fact that the media lied and made up bullshit to discredit Trump, rather than this half-assed shifting of the goal posts. It makes Reason seem petty, dishonest and, dare I say, unreasonable.

No they won't. One of these two is a lie. Guess which one they will believe, go on, take a guess.
I bet Trump threw a fire extinguisher.
If they committed a crime they need to be held responsible. The integrity of the election process needs to be maintained.
Too late
Dude those weren't suitcases so it's fine!
It’s moot.
Who would even have standing to talk to them?
I like how you use the word "integrity" and the phrase "election process" in the same sentence.
Ballsy.
Woosh...
The statute of limitations is 3 months?
A crime is moot?
Which story was the meltdown on?
Lol garden of gods. Wtf is that shit?
Couldn't stop laughing.
That’s just freaking sad.
I love that him and Jeff think the people that have stayed consistent since before 2016 are the ones that changed. It’s like they can’t see how far off the deepend they went after Trump won the nomination.
That was entertaining.
Other ones were.
Woosh...
JesseBahnFuhrer is a good NAZI leader instead of a spelling-bee leader? Is THAT supposed to make me trust JesseBahnFuhrer more?
"bann german to english"
Google it, pro-ignorance one!
And then a three-fer!
Wow sarcasmic. This is becoming hard to watch.
Another two-fer!
"Wow sarcasmic. This is becoming hard to watch."
Reality is hard to face! Try this:
A wise writer wrote the below!
“Relax! Just Because I am Right and You are Wrong, Doesn’t Mean that I Want to Steal ‘Your’ Woman”
In the special case of Der JesseBahnFuhrer, substitute “Your Inflated Doll(s)” for “Your Woman”.
To actually UNDERSTAND complex thoughts of LEARNED high school graduates, who have actually bothered to THINK about things, READ the content of the below!

Ha-ha-ha, you are trying to evade the repercussion of your fuck-up.

The Banality of Evil: Hannah Arendt on the Normalization of Human Wickedness and Our Only Effective Antidote to It
JesseBahnFuhrer, the one who would railroad us all into fascist, power-pig evil? NO! Let’s downgrade that name into JesseBannFuhrer, the spelling-bee leader! If THAT doesn’t smell like “The banality of Evil”, then what, pray tell, does?
Changing topics won't stop you from being retarded.
Mamma the fascist moose-fucker wants to do THIS:
JesseBahnFuhrer, the one who would railroad us all into fascist, power-pig evil? NO! Let’s downgrade that name into JesseBannFuhrer, the spelling-bee leader! If THAT doesn’t smell like “The banality of Evil”, then what, pray tell, does? (Moosefucker favors “The banality of Evil”).
HOW is that "changing the topic", fascist?
Oh by the way, what does JesseBahnFuhrer / JesseBannFuhrer prefer that we call its sorry, fascist ass? Till JesseBahnFuhrer / JesseBannFuhrer addresses the issue, I think that JesseBahnFuhrer is near-infinitely FAR more accurate!
You have gone full cringe. Never go full cringe.
A simple Google search on language makes you cringe, pro-ignorance one?
“bann german to english” yields "spell"!
Google it, pro-ignorance one!
Have you ever heard of homonyms, Sqrlsy?
I know you're kind of dumb, but German has them too.
SQRLSY, kill yourself. Your continued existence is both undeserved, and unwarranted.
Did you know that?
The people who lie constantly, destroyed millions of people's lives, and stole an election to seize power are totes going to hold themselves accountable now...
The Governor and Legislator are Republican...wait I see your point.
