Trump-Biden Continuity As U.S. Military Carries Out Airstrikes in Syria
Plus: The Republican Civil War has ended before it began, Mr. Potato Head rage is misplaced, and more...

The U.S launched airstrikes Thursday on two compounds in Syria that were allegedly controlled by Iranian militias. A "handful" of enemy combatants were killed in the attacks, U.S. officials told the press.
Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby confirmed that President Joe Biden ordered the strikes in response to "continuing threats to American and coalition personnel there," according to The New York Times.
It was feared that the militants were part of a weapons smuggling operation, but the Biden administration also wanted to send a message that this sort of thing would not be tolerated, U.S. officials told CNN.
Sen. Rand Paul (R–Ky.) condemned the airstrikes as a foolish intervention in Syria's ongoing civil war.
@POTUS dragging the US into Syria's civil war is a huge mistake. I strongly condemn this foolish military adventurism.
— Rand Paul (@RandPaul) February 26, 2021
While Biden is perhaps not the outspoken hawk that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was, he did not exactly run for president as a proponent of a humble foreign policy. Indeed, during his decades in Washington, D.C., Biden has supported all sorts of costly, pointless wars, including those in Iraq and Afghanistan. And while he apparently opposed the Obama administration's disastrous intervention in Libya, he was unable to convince his boss to listen to him.
Members of Biden's team certainly had problems with drone strikes when President Donald Trump was the one ordering them. When the Trump administration took out Iranian terrorist Qasem Soleimani, then Sen. Kamala Harris (D–Calif.) panned the move as reckless. In 2017, Jen Psaki—now the White House press secretary—questioned the legal justification for an airstrike on Syria.
Also what is the legal authority for strikes? Assad is a brutal dictator. But Syria is a sovereign country.

Needless to say, these objections will vanish now that a member of Team Blue is in charge. Consider the evolving positions of the author and liberal political activist Amy Siskind.

IN OTHER NEWS
In the immediate aftermath of the 2020 election, it seemed as if a civil war was brewing within the Republican Party between a faction loyal to Trump at all costs and a faction desperate to be rid of him. The former is best represented by political figures like Sens. Ted Cruz (R–Texas) and Josh Hawley (R–Mo.), while the latter is exemplified by Rep. Liz Cheney (R–Wy.), who supported the second impeachment of Trump for his role in the Capitol riot.
Though the GOP has morphed into a political organization wholly dedicated to Trump over the past four years, it always seemed possible that defeat would strip him of his hold over the party. President George Bush, after all, commanded little loyalty from the Republican faithful in the wake of his successor's defeat in 2008; the circumstances were not exactly analogous since it was John McCain and not Bush who lost, but nevertheless most Republicans were eager to distance themselves from Bush.
The horrific spectacle of January 6, when Trump's bombastic rhetoric and embrace of conspiracy theories resulted in a literal assault on Congress, seemingly gave Trump non-enthusiasts even more ammunition. Trump lost the GOP the House, the Senate, the presidency, as well as its claim to be the party that opposes mob violence.
Last week, Trump released a vicious statement condemning Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R–Ky.) as "a dour, sullen, and unsmiling hack." If ever there was a time for McConnell to denounce the president, it was now.
But during a Fox News appearance on Thursday night, McConnell was asked whether he would support Trump in 2024 if he is the Republican nominee—and McConnell said "absolutely."
Yes, McConnell qualified the statement by noting that he expected a competitive nominating competition, with several Republican senators planning to run. Yes, McConnell pledged to support Trump in the general election, not necessarily as a primary candidate (though it is difficult to imagine, if not impossible, any major Republican figures endorsing a Trump rival over Trump in the primaries). But come on: It's obvious that if Trump chooses to run in 2024, he is likely to be the nominee, because he still commands the loyalty of a large contingent of GOP voters.
To truly be rid of Trump, GOP leaders would need to take affirmative steps to shun him, at the cost of angering many of their voters in the short term. This is a gamble they are clearly unwilling to take, even as the former president shows nothing but contempt for them.
The Republican Civil War is over before it began. It's Trump's party until the bitter end.

Yidong Chen is a remote student at the University of Illinois. He lives with his mother and rarely leaves home because she is at high risk for a negative COVID-19 health outcome.
But the university requires all students to get tested twice a week—even if they live off-campus and have no plans to physically be at the university. Chen had no idea he was violating campus policy in failing to get tested, but was suspended for a year anyway. According to The College Fix:
Chen is an international student, and the finding against him would have resulted in his and his mother's deportation.
Fortunately for the student, he's a member of the Graduate Employees' Organization, which filed a formal grievance against the university. It also launched a petition demanding UI rescind the punishment and change its practices around the communication of COVID-19 protocols to students.
The petition, which is above 37,000 signatures as of Thursday night, accuses the administration of setting nonsensical rules for remote students who are following COVID safety protocols off-campus. The university requires Chen to "increase the risk to himself, his mother, and the campus community."
The pressure worked and the university readmitted Chen last week, holding his dismissal in "abeyance" as long as he fulfills other requirements, according to Inside Higher Ed. Chen still must kiss the ring by writing two 1,000-word "reflective essays" and completing 25 hours of community service, down from 80 hours in his original punishment.
It's good that the university ultimately relented, but treating Chen like a rule breaker at all is ridiculous. Colleges shouldn't apply their COVID-19 rules in knee-jerk fashion.

Due to the pandemic and not society's response to it.
Pandemic? Response? I assumed it was because Trump had federal agents disappear them. After they voted of course.

I enjoyed Fringe...I thought its was excellent.
That was him? He must have been mostly hands off.
He produced it but did not direct. He directed Star Wars VII and IX as well as the first Star Trek reboot movie. So probably choice of director made a big difference.
Fringe is the only good thing he’s done in his career, and it doesn’t make up for ruining Star Trek with those awful reboot movies.
The Walter Bishop character really made the show.
Abrams had little to do with it that you'd notice. I know because I recognize it as material my friend Damon Lindelof shot back at me from our shared times with his father (and sometimes mother and other friends of either of us). http://users.bestweb.net/~robgood/teach if you want an idea what "Lost" was really about. A senate source tells me that they expect Levine to get confirmed because “pussy Republicans are scared to go against a trans.”
Their exact words.
Wow, an anonymous source that actually sounds real.
Levine will do great harm to this country uf he gets his way.
Let’s hope Americans wise up sooner than later and do what needs to happen to save the country. We simply cannot survive the continued presence of the progressives.
To truly be rid of Trump, GOP leaders would need to take affirmative steps to shun him, at the cost of angering many of their voters in the short term. This is a gamble they are clearly unwilling to take, even as the former president shows nothing but contempt for them.
Which is how you got Trump in the first place. Remember Trump's "New York values" where he explained away his support for abortion and support for gun control by explaining that New York Republicans are more liberal than Republicans in general? It wasn't his strident right-wing extremism that got him elected, it was his America First willingness to talk shit at the progressive globalists and Blame-America-Firsters, his obvious love of fighting. Which the GOPe hasn't learned a goddamn thing from. They're still the same old timid pussies so scared of CNN and the New York Times saying bad things about them that they'll preemptively shit their pants and roll over and play dead to any weenie soy boy that says "Boo!" to them.
Yeah, a lot of Very Smart People still haven't processed the fact that these people voted for Trump specifically as a "fuck you" to their socio-economic class.
Also, Rand was fucking based going after that obese mentally ill tranny. How the hell does someone that disgustingly fat get in a position to tell people how to protect their health?
It's performance makes Tyler Perry look talented.
Yeah I know, it's fun to call Levine a monster and a troll, because he looks like one. But it also gives the left a reason to wave away legitimate criticism as "transphobia." Ignore the fact he's ugly and just focus on the fact his ideology is toxic and dangerous to liberty. Only catching him in a lie or getting him to unequivocally state he wants the government amputating child genitalia will be enough to unseat him, should the unthinkable happen and he get the nom.
Also, Richard Levine is not a woman.
Ignore the fact he’s ugly and just focus on the fact his ideology is toxic and dangerous to liberty.
It's not even an ideology. It's him projecting his mental illness and trying to normalize his body dysmorphia on to small children. He also pulled his mother out of her nursing home when COVID kicked off while saying it was okay to take COVID-infected patients in. He's on the same level as that tranny tard who said that gender reveal parties were transphobic.
I wouldn't be surprised if the fat fuck has child porn stashed on his computer. I'm sure he and PB would get along famously.
After many years, my friend finally went to the VA to be treated for PTSD. They assigned him to a male transvestite counselor. My friend refused to talk to the transvestite. Like most combat soldiers, my friend doesn't trust a man that dresses as a woman. What common ground would he have with a man that doesn't want to be a man, wears a dress, applies makeup, and is attracted to men sexually?
Veterans are being denied treatment just so the VA can virtue signal.
I'm sure that this transvestite counselor can help people, but they have to be people that share common ground with him. Men that have fought in combat and are having PTSD issues already face a tough battle. Without treatment, many more will die by suicide. In this case, we can only hope that the transvestite realizes that no veterans are going to work with him. Hopefully, he has morals and will walk away. Hopefully he cares enough about veterans to do so. Probably not. No matter how bad this guy fails, no matter how many men take their on lives that could have been saved, this transvestite will always have a job at the VA.
Like the military, the VA is now a jobs program for whatever oppressed group the progs favor.
The so,union is to reduce the surplus population of progs in America.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo's pandemic response is still the "gold standard," according to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.
Optics, she means.
You mean, it should be repudiated by law?
I suppose, in the same way that Democrats still consider Mein Kampf to be the "gold standard" of racial consciousness or the Holodomor to be the "gold standard" of food distribution or the Chinese social credit system to be the "gold standard" of democracy fortification.
Well said, I'm stealing that.
Feel free to improve on it if you can. The wording can probably be tightened up.
She forgot she was speaking outside the Democratic Cabal Secret Temple.
More like the Pyrite(fools gold) standard.
That is especially pathetic = Cuomo the gold standard
The man's utter incompetence killed elderly nursing home patients. Phailing Phil Murphy in the People's Republic of NJ was equally incompetent, and even more lethal.
But according to some lying POS on Cuomo's staff, it was Trump's fault.
It is the one that has received the most praise from the press, which seems to be all that matters in judging these things.
Who the press swoons over has nothing to do with policy being effective, as reporters are insufferable ignoramuses.
How can anyone say that? It seems like they must just be ignoring all evidence. How can you say that the state with the worst outcome had the best response? It's like they are just assuming that their models are correct without any regard for actual evidence.
Can he be crucified on a cross of gold? I'd chip in.
Only if you have enough gold to make a cross for his disease spreading, roid infused brother, Fredo.
Some news outlets are doing what the CDC should be doing and researching why flu numbers are so low.
https://redstate.com/michael_thau/2021/02/25/about-that-mysterious-decline-in-flu-cases-n33253
While the CDC and the media want masks to have stopped the flu, no actual scientist should believe correlation equals causation. The size of the covid virus is actually slightly larger than the flu. Do if masks stopped the flu it would stop covid. It hasn't. There is no correlation between infection rates and mask usage rates.
Instead the above article links to a previous study on PCR/test sensitivity of the flu virus. After just 6 days the detection of the flu virus drops by 80% whereas detection of covid virus satys up to 3 months after the infection has passed. Due to clinics prioritizing covid, it is reasonable to believe that the flu tests are just being delayed outside the small windows for detection.
No chance at all that it is because the Communist Chinese Virus brings in thousands more to the health care companies than the old fashioned kind?
It was never the size of the virus that matters with masks; all viruses are so small that no mask could ever prevent one passing through. The masks catch droplets of spit and mucus from spraying out. It is those droplets that contain the virus.
Looking at this, it is apparent that the use of masks in public is for the same reason surgeons wear them in the operating room - to prevent others being infected.
Whether or not this use really matters is certainly a topic for debate. It looks to me like the grandmother's prescription of chicken soup for a cold. "Does it help? Well, it couldn't hurt."
Yes, I understand you blindly repeat whatever you read in the media. If that was the case masks would be for symptomatic people only. Likewise prior to last year virtually every study disputed your claim. The studies that show the claims you suggest use completely sealed masks around a tube. It is not a real life example. That is why the CDC could not show any real life studies of masks usage but return to lab or modeling. Youre repeating bullshit without inspection.
No, hes spot on

Whether or not this use really matters is certainly a topic for debate. It looks to me like the grandmother’s prescription of chicken soup for a cold. “Does it help? Well, it couldn’t hurt.”
Yeah, we've heard this same argument over and over and over again. A surgeon wearing a mask (along with a ton of other PPE) in the operating room is a completely different context from some bourgeoisie wine mom walking around with a piece of cloth over their face in Whole Foods.
If "masks and restrictions work!" was actually a valid argument, then the massive nationwide spike in cases and deaths wouldn't have happened during the normal flu season. 50 types of restriction policies, all the same result. A bunch of balloonheads started clapping when North and South Dakota had case spikes in the fall, claiming it was because they weren't masking up--except the spike already started in blue states that had mask mandates and lockdown policies in place for months.
Furthermore, the "it couldn't hurt" argument has, in fact, hurt millions by destroying their jobs, businesses, and livelihoods. Democratic and a few Republican cuck politicians bent to the Precautionary Principle, and it didn't do shit to stop people from dying anyway. "Everyone shut down! Everyone mask up!" 500,000 people died anyway. California and Florida had completely different policies, and the exact same case/death curves.
People took a look at the Spanish flu epidemic, saw that businesses closed up and mask policies were implemented, and thought, "hey, we just need to do that, but harder!" I guess they didn't notice that 600,000 people still died.
I watched General LLoyd "White Supremacist Hunter" Austin III speaking with reporters today on a plane. He doesn't have the ability to keep his mask over his nose while he expels all that hot air. His nostrils were so flared out you could have used his face for a game of Cornhole.
So what happens after the mask "catches" the drop with the virus on it? Hint: It evaporates, you breathe out, and now the virus is airborne.
The virus doesn't evaporate or somehow cling to gaseous water. Jesus christ.
You guys are scientific illiterates. Stop trying to draw your own conclusions. You aren't knowledgeable enough.
That's not what he said. The droplet evaporates and the virus is still there.
Why don't you tell us where the virus goes after that?
“... and the virus is still there”
Hard to reconcile your reading with “and now the virus is airborne”.
And Red Rocks tries to say De Opp is the one with poor reading comprehension.
You’re right! He just assumed continued breathing without saying it.
New rule: wear two masks, and don’t breath more than once in public.
It’s best that WK ceases to breathe entirely.
He literally said the drop evaporates, not the virus, you dumbass. Your reading comprehension is as shallow as your historical knowledge.
“... or somehow cling to gaseous water.”
Maybe work on your own reading comprehension before criticizing others.
“catches” the drop
Follow your own advice, White Excrement.
Lol. Stupid again.
When the droplet evaporates any viral particles present will be deposited upon the fibers of the mask. Yes it is possible that those dessicated particles could then be dislodged by respiration. But it is unlikely, and it is unlikely that they will come off in significant numbers or be biologically active (most complex polysaccharides do not handle drying well.)
It is important to consider that a virus is not a magic bullet, and generally requires exposure to a significant number of active viral particles - ones capable of responding when they contact the proper cellular surfaces.
This is why fomites are a thing - they are minute objects capable of carrying an infectious load of particles.
Although this process does help explain why mask are only partially effective at best.
I would like to point out to all of you that the surgeon thing is not being framed correctly. Surgeons wear masks to protect themselves from "splash," and to protect their patients from bacteria sputum and debris. They are not being worn for any concern regarding viral transmission.
There is no strong evidence that they work as viral source control. There is weak evidence in the form of observational studies and mechanistic studies, but actual effect on transmission has not been shown in any randomized controlled trial (albeit airborne viral infection source control studies are somewhat lacking and immature - the topic is generally treated as a secondary effect which researchers try to detect as part of studies on masks as PPE for AVIs). There is also widespread debate on the role and behavior of sputum and droplets as infection vectors, and how these vectors interact with masks. Given that studies have shown a lack of strong correlation between masks stopping droplets and masks preventing infection, there is a general debate occurring about our assumptions concerning viral transmission mechanisms. For example, as we breath there may be a wicking effect that evaporates droplets caught in the mask and releases virions as finer droplets and particles. Saturation of masks could also result in the mask acting as another (larger and dirtier) membrane, undermining masking efficacy. Final example, we don't well understand masks as a contamination point. It could be that mask handling exposes the wearer at a rate which compensates for any protective effect.
And again, to be clear, surgeons DO NOT wear them to prevent viral infections. This concern is generally absent in any PPE materials. They are for surgical infections caused by larger contaminants or bacteria. If surgical masks were for AVIs you might have seen them in the past, on your physician when you go in to be tested for flu. They don't wear them for flu because that is not what they are designed for.
Interesting side note, a good deal of guidance training and research does mention the effect of surgical masks on patient psychology. Patients tend to be more confident and receive surgeons better if they look the part and wear the mask. Often surgeons even remove the masks once the patient is out and instead don a face shield, which is generally considered to work better for the purposes of surgery (mitigating splash towards surgeon and direct contamination towards patient).
Science denier.
Careful, this explanation of decades worth of clinical and observational research is now considered heresy in both Clown World and WeFuckingLoveScience! Land.
Little known factoid, but when the creators were making the original Facebook group they accidentally swapped the "fucking" and "love", but ran with it anyway in the end. The original intent is still there though, misrepresenting interpretation as scientific fact.
Saint Fauci removing his mask the instant the cameras went off says it all.
It is also important to note that the efficacy of procedure masks in reducing the incidence of transmission of specific, targeted pathogens has only been validated to the extent that those masks are employed in the studied practice environments, in the defined manner, and along with all the other controls (both procedures and equipment) specified.
Eliminate or alter any of that and their utility is only presumed.
Actually wearing masks can hurt given that we're expected to wear them more or less all the time. Human beings are social creatures and not seeing each other's faces does actually matter.
And yet, I can vape through my mask and still get impressive clouds.
"But it stops droplets! DROPLETS! Don't you understand that we need to Follow The Science?"
Yes, vapor and droplets are different.
And no, surgeons don't just wear masks to protect themselves from splash. The first and primary purpose is to protect the patient. Hippocratic oath and all that. https://www.yalemedicine.org/news/why-doctors-wear-masks
This all so dumb and so easy to be right. You have to really want to be wrong. Which is basically the tagline for Trump cultism.
This is nothing to do with Trump. Fuck off with that shit. There are lots of people, many very smart and qualified, all around the world saying the same. Address the actual arguments or fuck off.
You might think that TDS is something that we just joke about, but it’s real, and DOL has a bad case of it. Even with him out of office, DOL wakes up every morning full of rage for his very existence.
Oh, I know it's real.
Oh, bullshit. Trump has his fingerprints all over whipping up anti-maskers. De Opp might be incorrectly assuming you are Trumpers, but it is not TDS.
Trump worked at the CDC for decades before Wuhan virus and claimed masks don’t block viruses?
He’s even more impressive than I thought!
Or... you and DOL both have TDS.
I would prefer the lying, valor thieving pedophile enthusiast weasel fuck off.
500,000 deaths and counting, and a continued spike in cases during flu season in WeFuckingLoveScience! Land despite mask mandates being in place for months.
When the real world data contradict your assertions, you should probably take the L and move on.
No, see, masks are perfect. It's just because that one guy didn't wear one that there was a big epidemic anyway.
Thousands of people died in California during the winter because a few cowboys and plumbers in Oklahoma didn't wear theirs to the bar that one time.
THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE ACTUALLY BELIEVE (or so it appears).
Why don't you tell us about it from your "support soldier" point of view. Cookie? I can handle Trump supporters, SF was loaded with them. But you, and only you, support Hillary Clinton and claim to be SF. No real SF guy would do that. You are a left leaning, female support soldier, it is pretty obvious.
Who have you "freed from being oppressed", Cupcake? When and where did that happen? The Iraqis? The Afghans? The Kurds? Oh yeah, they are living that freedom that you claim to bring to the world. Only a REMF that never left the base believes that we "free the oppressed". SF are the oppressors, Boy. If you claim anything else, you weren't there.
I have a cool team nickname for you, Cookie. How about....Rambutt?
Not aware of the three primary states of matter? Not surprising.
Vapor clouds are aerosols or droplets, i.e. liquids.
You are arguing with Mr. H02.
He's ignorant of his ignorance.
But he makes up for it by being consistently dishonest.
De Opp, in case you are wondering what the heck they are referring to, apparently I mistyped the formula for water as “HO2” and the CACLLS will never let me hear the end of it.
I don’t know why that would have anything to do with you, since you are not me. Oh, that’s right, the CACLLs do the idiotic thing where they claim we are all sock puppets of each other.
Remind me, who coined that cool acronym?
Ooooh, I know, I know!
The White Knight

It means conservative and conservative-leaning libertarian, and I coined it.
Is there a law in Canada that ordinary people aren’t allowed to coin acronyms. Here in the godamn USA we have freedom of speech..
It wasn’t a typo. You’re revising the facts. As you are a lying shitweasel.
First he murders 100,000 citizens with the China virus, then starts bombardment in Syria. Is there no end to the SleepyJoe bloodlust?
Don't forget re-opening the Kids In Cages™️ and blaming it on Rona. What does he want? These kids to die (grasps pearls!)?
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I–Vt.) wants to punish large corporations that don't pay their workers a $15 minimum wage.
No trust in an unmolested market.
Can we punish politicians who don't pay their entire staff that wage as well? Even the lowly interns?
We're paying them so, taxpayer, repudiate thyself.
Or the campaign “volunteers.” They are working. And Bernie should pay them $15/hr.
He doesn’t need his $700k third home on Lake Champlain and should sell it to pay for the labor those under compensated folks provided to him.
People work for Bernie for free because they love him and his policies so much.
Bernie was chairman for the veterans affairs committe when veterans were dropping like flies waiting for an appointment. He would never fire one of his workers, those affirmative action hired paper pushers were more valued to him than those dying veterans. None of them were ever punished.
EXC: Congressional Black Caucus & Biden HUD Nominee Sent Constituents On Chinese Govt-Paid Trips To Laud “Amazing Communist Country.”
https://thenationalpulse.com/news/black-caucus-biden-hud-ccp-trips/
“Since 2013, students from several CBC member districts have participated in the student study visits to China under this program, including: Rep. Barbara Lee (CA-13); Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18), Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04); Rep. Marcia Fudge (OH-11); Rep. G. K. Butterfield (NC-01); Rep. Gregory Meeks (NY-05); and Rep. Charles Rangel (NY-13),” the program description adds.
Students appear honor-bound to write glowing reviews of their trip and their sponsors, even denigrating America along the way.
One testimonial from June 2017 asserted that the “culture and history of China far exceeds those of the United States” and said the trip would help them “spread the positive light of an amazing communist country”:
“I learned that the culture and history of China far exceeds those of the United States – exceeds it so well, it’s predicted that China will be the #1 country of foreign policy and investments in less than 20 years. Oh, wait, Biden... Nevermind.
Missiles are okay, it is the tweets that stir shit up.
Well, tweets do kill people on the home front, right?
Those and fire extinguishers.
You're right. Trump limited himself to tweets and never engaged in missile attacks:

Fuck off and die, asshole.
Lol, you’re really this dumb. The post is literally making fun of you guys that acted like Trump was going to start WW3 by killing Soleimani, and you just played right along.

White Knight III is still in development.

JesseAz's comment is clearly attempting to make fun of people who criticized Trump's abuse of Twitter.
So even after I explain it it still goes sailing over your head.

https://www.algemeiner.com/2021/02/22/when-will-the-woke-go-full-caligula/
I am quite certain, for example, that everyone in the world — including the Woke themselves — believes that Western civilization is more than just racism and genocide. Everyone believes that, while transgender people should never be subject to prejudice or violence, biological sex is nonetheless immutable and cannot be changed. Everyone believes that Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill are not the moral equivalent of Hitler. Everyone believes that, contrary to the New York Times’ quintessentially Woke 1619 Project, the United States was not founded in 1619 on the basis of chattel slavery. Everyone, in other words, is being told by insane people to adopt insane ideas.
It is worth inquiring into the nature of this madness. When I read that attack on Bari Weiss, what sprang to mind was Albert Camus’ play Caligula, a retelling of the well-known tale of the deranged third emperor of Rome. In the play, the initially benign ruler suffers an existential crisis. Realizing that he alone wields absolute power, he decides to follow the logic of that power to its ultimate conclusion. “It’s just because no one dares to follow up his ideas to the end that nothing is achieved,” he says. “All that’s needed is to be logical right through, at all costs.”
This logic leads Caligula to believe that he is beyond good and evil. Thus, he is free to choose evil. So he does; nothing, after all, can stop him. He initiates a reign of terror over his subjects, rapes the women of the nobility, randomly orders executions, declares himself a god, kills his wife, and in the end invites his own assassination.
Rereading Caligula while writing this piece, I was shocked by the extent to which Camus had anticipated the Woke phenomenon. One can imagine the Woke repeating Caligula’s words. There is the imposition of an absolute ideology: “I wish men to live by the light of truth. And I have the power to make them do so.” A love of the spectacle of humiliation: “I invite you to the most gorgeous of shows, a sight for gods to gloat on, a whole world called to judgment. But for that I must have a crowd — spectators, victims, criminals, hundreds and thousands of them.” And the self-accorded right to crush anyone at any time: “A man dies because he is guilty. A man is guilty because he is one of Caligula’s subjects. Now all men are Caligula’s subjects. Ergo, all men are guilty and shall die. It is only a matter of time and patience.”
Wow so true to our times

The U.S. House version of the “American Rescue Plan Act of 2021” – a $1.9 trillion emergency aid package to help America recover from the coronavirus pandemic has an extra perk for federal workers: Enhanced paid time off if your child is enrolled in a school that isn’t back to full-time, in-classroom instruction.
Critics call it a personal bailout for bureaucrats. It is funded through a new $570 million family leave account exclusively for federal workers.
While millions of parents struggle to work from home with kids who are enrolled in shuttered or partially shuttered schools, and millions more left the workforce or lost jobs to care for their at-home children, evidently parents in the federal bureaucracy need their own, personal Covid-19 bailout.

Can I get a “pounced”?
It's been a while since I played with a Mr. Potato Head, but from what I recall, the *only* thing that made him gendered was the Mr. literally everything else between Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head was completely interchangeable. So, to change him from 'Mr. Potato Head' to just 'Potato Head' is going gender neutral.
Mustache accessory?, but then again maybe he was a Persian woman.
Mustache accessory?
It wasn't an intrinsic part of his anatomy. You couldn't take all the accessories off of a GI Joe and convince anyone it was a GI Jane. Not even if you stripped the paint off. The hair, chest, and groin were all molded male, the inverse with Barbie or She-Ra. Even if you cut the hair, the waist was more slender and the legs were longer. If you stripped a Mr. Potato and a Mrs. Potato of all their accessories the only thing that made them gendered was the 'Mr.' and 'Mrs.'
Really, he's not just a head anymore and they should just market the toy as 'Potato'.
Or, you can buy a Ken and Barbie. The chests are different but can easily be adjusted.

You are running away right now. You just wrote: "And then you proceed to attack the content of Trump’s speech like it’s some sort of gotcha that proves me wrong".
Yesterday you described Trump's speech as laying out exactly what kinds of fraud occurred. And now you are retreating to, "well, I don't back necessarily back anything he said in the speech."
So you're definition of running away is giving an answer that you didn't like or agree with?
“well, I don’t back necessarily back anything he said in the speech.”
I hate to answer this sort of deliberate retardation, but I believe I said the exact opposite: https://reason.com/2021/02/26/syria-airstrikes-trump-mcconnell-biden/#comment-8783615
Here's the transcript of the speech:

Potato.
OK, let's start with this statement from Trump's speech:
"Dozens of counties in the key swing states have more registered voters on the rolls than they have voting age citizens, including 67 counties in Michigan.”
The claim uses the trickery of not acknowledging that Michigan distinguishes between active and inactive voter registration:
https://thefulcrum.us/voting/michigan-voter-registration
"Benson's office said the statistics cited were deeply flawed, that the state's motor voter system is highly accurate and that the suit makes 'no attempt to distinguish between active and inactive registration, and asserts the false notion that voter registration rates should be low.'"
???

To which I replied:
Mother's Lament
February.25.2021 at 8:22 pm
You do realize you’re only allowed 280 characters per Tweet. Why are you expecting an in-depth analysis on Twitter of all places... Trump gave an hour long televised speech where he laid exactly what kinds of fraud occurred, and then released hundreds of pages on the same.
And then you proceed to attack the content of Trump's speech like it's some sort of gotcha that proves me wrong about your statement that "Trump only tweeted".
You're trying to pull a victory lap based on your own idiocy.
Has anyone ever seen a bigger idiot than this absolute burke?
OMG, you are so proud of your lame argument that Trump only had 280 characters that you are repeating it?
God, do I have to come right out and explain, for one thing, you can sequence a bunch of tweets together to surpass the 280-character limit.
I mean, that's not even the biggest flaw in your argument. The biggest flaw is he could have completely refrained from blabbing incoherently about election fraud on Twitter.
Look, stop evading and answer the question I asked you before: when you said that Trump “laid exactly what kinds of fraud occurred” in his speech, does that mean you are 100% behind everything he said in the speech? Do you want to make a disclaimer at this time that some of the claims in his speech were not valid?
you can sequence a bunch of tweets together to surpass the 280-character limit
Oh FFS, seriously? And if he would have done something that retarded you would have claimed he wasn't being serious because he posted it spread out on 500 twitter posts instead of giving a speech.
And you seem to forget that Twitter was censoring him at that point, to your great delight.
Look, stop evading and answer the question I asked you before
"Evading" Where did you ask that question before, Grima?
does that mean you are 100% behind everything he said in the speech?
For all intents and purposes, yes, yes I am, you demonic mouthpiece of fascists.
Oh yeah? Well you're Canadian!
And you’re a Marxist traitor. What’s your point?
"Oh FFS, seriously? And if he would have done something that retarded..."
"if"? Trump did sometimes chain together tweets.
"And you seem to forget that Twitter was censoring him at that point"
"at that point" is vague. Trump started tweeting about mail-in voting around April 2020. Twitter did not censor him at all at that point. Later on, all they did is attach warning notes to his tweets, which is not censoring him.
"“if”? Trump did sometimes chain together tweets."
An hour long speech into a chain of tweets?
Lol, GFY Clownshow.
“at that point” is vague
You always pull this horseshit, and then get pissy when we call you dishonest. There's nothing vague about the time that Trump made that tweet and you know it.
Seriously who are you trying to fool. A toddler would see through your rhetoric.
“that tweet”
The one where he wrote “VOTER FRAUD!”? You never said you were referring to the time frame of that particular tweet. You just started referring to “at that point”. Don’t blame me for your poor communication skills.
THE WHOLE CONVO HAS BEEN ABOUT THAT ONE FUCKING TWEET YOU DISINGENUOUS LITTLE FRAUD!
How fucking stupid do you think we all are, to try and suddenly pretend you were talking about a different tweet or something, when anyone can read this whole thread from the beginning.
I swear it's like arguing with a brain damaged monkey.
Who ever said anything about Trump making the entire hour-long content of his speech into a chain of tweets. You just pulled that out of nowhere.
You did:
"Trump only tweeted the vague statement: “VOTER FRAUD!”
"God, do I have to come right out and explain, for one thing, you can sequence a bunch of tweets together to surpass the 280-character limit"
Fucking retard.
"For all intents and purposes, yes, yes I am, you demonic mouthpiece of fascists."
OK, start with backing up his claim, "Dozens of counties in the key swing states have more registered voters on the rolls than they have voting age citizens, including 67 counties in Michigan.” Make sure you account for Michigan's voter registration system's making a distinction between active and inactive voters.
I honestly can't be assed right now. How about instead of me having to demonstrate how you're retarded, you put the leg work in instead, and demonstrate how it's purportedly wrong.
And don't get all devious and lie again, because I might just check your work.
Already did put in the legwork:

Still crickets. You do about it as well as Sidney Powell, or Rudy Giuliani, or Lin Wood, or The Pillow Guy when pressed to defend the bogus stolen election claims.
Oh FFS, I don't reply for several hours and you pretend like I've chickened out. You're so utterly cheap.
Unlike you I'm not paid to shitpost and propagandize here.
Anyway, it turns out there's an update to your story you somehow failed to mention (imagine that):
The Michigan secretary of state removed 177,000 inactive voters from the state's voter rolls after settling a legal challenge.
The state removed the names from the voter rolls in late January because the voters no longer live in the state or did not respond to the state's inquiries about their addresses, according to a Tuesday district court announcement. The state performed the post-election audit during a legal battle with the Honest Elections Project, an election watchdog...
The move comes after President Joe Biden won the state by more than 100,000 votes, securing its 16 electoral votes. Benson said the state removed the voters after sending a notice prior to the 2018 elections requiring a response or some sort of voting activity. A Michigan voter who is removed from the list is able to re-register in the state before the next election....
"[I] think it is unfortunate that a lawsuit was needed to finally bring about what should have been routine list maintenance activities," Johnson said.
Tony Daunt, a conservative activist recently selected to serve on the state's election certification panel, brought the lawsuit along with the Honest Elections Project. Daunt praised the purge but said that Benson should have acted sooner.
"The National Voter Registration Act protects the franchise of every Michigan voter, and it's disappointing—but not surprising—that it took a federal lawsuit to force Secretary Benson to comply with election law," Daunt said.
https://freebeacon.com/2020-election/michigan-removes-177000-voters-from-voter-rolls-after-legal-challenge/
Biden won Michigan by 100,000 votes, almost half the number of people that were removed from the rolls after pressure from the lawsuit.
You're so shit at your job, Wormtongue.
So, doesn’t contradict my research that they have separate active and inactive categories for registered voters, and your update proves zero evidence any fraud occurred.
“Biden won Michigan by 100,000 votes, almost half the number of people that were removed from the rolls after pressure from the lawsuit.”
Pure insinuation. The numbers are of similar magnitude, but if those lapsed voter registrations actually had been used to give Biden a win it would be BLATANTLY obvious. There would be no way to hide the dirty deed.
Except for the part 177,000 none-existent Biden voters who were removed only after the election, okay.
"177,000 none-existent Biden voters who were removed"
First of all, they removed lapsed registrations, so they wouldn't be Biden or Trump voters, at least not in the 2020 election.
Second, they had better not know which of those 177,000 are Biden voters, or Democratic voters, or Republican voters, or any other demographic of voters -- because that would betray that there has been a major violation of voter privacy.
The removal happened after the 2020 election and the court challenges you retard. Those 177,000 were all potential Joe voters in November.
Crickets
No, I replied, retard.

China telling Zhou Biden what they think of him, and us.
https://www.vice.com/en/article/bvxk9a/china-anal-covid-tests-us-diplomats
The Chinese government has promised to stop using anal swabs on American diplomats to test for COVID-19 after Washington complained that the practice was undignified, the U.S. State Department said.
“The State Department never agreed to this kind of testing and protested directly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs when we learned that some staff were subject to it,” a State Department spokesperson told VICE World News on Wednesday.
The spokesperson said Beijing had assured Washington that the test was given “in error” and that diplomatic personnel were exempt from the test, which was mandatory for incoming travelers in some parts of China.
“We have instructed staff to decline this test if it is asked of them, as was done in the past.”
On Thursday afternoon, China’s foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian denied Beijing had asked U.S. diplomats in China to undergo anal swab tests.
I'm a bit surprised that it didn't turn into a testing war, with diplomats on either side being subjected to anal swabs of increasing severity and rigor. That seems more on brand.
I think that’s more a Japanese game show thing, not Chinese.
Well then lets not start any cold wars with Japan. No no hole violations and further tariffs on Nissan Skylines sounds like an inner circle of hell.

Apparently, Trump lost Robbie, too.
"embrace of coNspiRacy thEoRies"
I'm sure that Robby meant how Russia stole an election using peeing hookers and $150k in Facebook ads, and not ballot box stuffing by the party of Tammany Hall and the Chicago Machine.
He is setting us up to blame trump for any authoritarian actions biden takes.
We should save our condemnation of Biden's entry into the Syrian civil war for when he's actually perpetrating something like that, and while Biden's actions are a continuation of Trump's policy in this one regard, it isn't because Biden is emulating Trump's behavior as a warmonger. Trump's actions were the opposite of a warmonger.
"WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden on Thursday ordered airstrikes on buildings in Syria that the Pentagon said were used by Iranian-backed militias, in retaliation for rocket attacks on U.S. targets in neighboring Iraq."
----NBC News
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/biden-orders-airstrikes-in-syria-retaliating-against-iranian-backed-militias/ar-BB1e2vEZ
At some point, Robby's comments should have included the fact that this was in retaliation for the Iranians targeting Americans, which is the same reason Trump targeted Soleimani (in retaliation for targeting Americans). I would argue that this a perfectly legitimate military response--but whether it's smart is another question entirely.
The difference between Biden and Trump is their objectives.
When the Iranians seized our allies' oil tankers in the Persian Gulf as they traveled through the Strait of Hormuz, Trump did nothing. When the Iranians targeted our allies oil production facilities in Saudi Arabia, Trump did nothing. When the Iranians targeted Americans, Trump retaliated by taking out the general who ordered the attack. When the Turks invaded Syria to go after our Kurdish allies, Trump did nothing.
The message Trump was sending with his actions was that the United States would not be the guarantor of security in the Middle East, and unless our enemies attacked the United States (and it was in the best interests of the United States to retaliate), the United States would leave it to the countries of the Middle East to defend themselves. In fact, the Trump administration approved the sale of a tremendous amount of hardware to Saudi Arabia, the UAE and others precisely because they refuse to defend those countries for them.
The difference between what Biden is doing and what Trump did is that Biden retaliated against the Iranians for attacks on Americans--after killing the approval for the arms sales that the Trump administration had approved. With Biden, we have gone back to the days when the United States is both the guarantor of its own security--as well as the security of our allies in the Middle East.
In other words, this may be a continuation of Trump's policy to retaliate when the Iranians target Americans, but Biden is not doing this with the same goals as the Trump administration. The goal of the Trump administration was to extract the United States from implicitly guaranteeing the security of the Middle East like we have since before the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. The purpose of the Biden administration is to not only retaliate against Iran when they target Americans but also to guarantee the security of the region.
And that is a big difference, my libertarian friends. We need to make this difference clear to our friends and family. Not accuse Biden of being a warmonger for retaliating against the Iranians for targeting Americans.
Weren't there reports some weeks ago of a convoy of American troops rolling back into Syria?
Although I don't remember where I read that, I do remember reading it.
If someone has a link, that'd be great.
https://www.worldtribune.com/convoy-of-u-s-troops-enters-syria-from-iraq/
A large convoy of U.S. military personnel entered northeaster Syria on Thursday, crossing the border from Iraq, Syrian state media reported
Syrian media reported it, no confirmation from American sources. This would be a great question for a journalist to ask of the illegitimate Biden administration, if only journalists were allowed to ask questions of the illegitimate Biden administration.
Thanks!
Where have I seen this before? Oh, yeah:
Thornton Affair
President Polk ordered General Taylor and his forces south to the Rio Grande. Taylor ignored Mexican demands to withdraw to the Nueces. He constructed a makeshift fort (later known as Fort Brown/Fort Texas) on the banks of the Rio Grande opposite the city of Matamoros, Tamaulipas.
The Mexican forces prepared for war. On April 25, 1846, a 2,000-man Mexican cavalry detachment attacked a 70-man U.S. patrol commanded by Captain Seth Thornton, which had been sent into the contested territory north of the Rio Grande and south of the Nueces River. In the Thornton Affair, the Mexican cavalry routed the patrol, killing 11 American soldiers and capturing 52....
Polk received word of the Thornton Affair, which, added to the Mexican government's rejection of Slidell, Polk believed, constituted a casus belli.[68] His message to Congress on May 11, 1846, claimed that "Mexico has passed the boundary of the United States, has invaded our territory and shed American blood upon American soil."
Matamoros
I had never heard that city name before. It literally translates to "slain Black people."
According to La Wik, it's named after a Mexican Revolution hero who was an ex-priest. I'd love to find out how his ancestors got that last name.
Not only that but remember when an Admiral said he lied to trump about pulling troops out of Syria and just moved them around. why Trump didn't fire that admiral imediately for not obeying orders and admitting to lying about it, I'll never know but Trump was under attacks form all angles and probably already realized America was a lost cause.
Fired? He should have lined him up against a wall, shot him in the head, and thrown his body into the Potomac.
Firing is the very LEAST that should have been done; Trump really has no excuse for not immediately canning that asshole and every single officer and suit who went along with it.
This guy outright admitted to disobeying a direct order from the Commander-in-Chief to remove American troops from harm's way, and kept them in a position to be killed anyway despite that explicit order. The precedent has been set now that these fuckers can literally do whatever they feel like, irrespective of the ethical questions, even if the supposed Commander-in-Chief tells them to make it happen.
It's one thing to hesitate on orders to nuke Moscow or Beijing. It's quite another to keep troops in a theater that the President has ordered to be withdrawn, and lie about it up until the point you think he's going to be removed from office.
It was after the election, and he had bigger concerns, and no prospect at all that the Senate would have confirmed a replacement.
Yup, what Biden did here seems marginally okay, and I don't have a problem with it.
I'll be interested to see if we get any "OMG, he just started WWIII!" comments, from the folks here who flipped out when Trump did the same thing.
And it's Biden's stance on guaranteeing the security of the Middle East that's the part that's really worthy of note here.
Given Biden's actions showing that he intends to reclaim America's responsibility for the security of the Middle East probably should cast his retaliations against Iran in a different light.
What used to be an attempt by Iran to derail the sanctions against them by trying to provoke Trump into attacking them and, thus, making the Europeans break ranks with the U.S. becomes a casus belli given the logic of Biden's foreign policy.
I’ll be interested to see if we get any “OMG, he just started WWIII!” comments, from the folks here who flipped out when Trump did the same thing.
Worth remembering/noting that Trump tweeted "I've notified the Secretary of Defense and the Joint Chiefs..." and the media, Reason included, flipped out reporting "We're going to WWIII!" before he finished the sentence with "to no longer allow openly transgendered troops to serve in our military."
Shorter Ken: Even though I would normally criticize Biden for his military adventurism, we shouldn't in this case, because Trump did the same thing, and it's more important to defend Trump's record than it is to condemn military adventurism for its own sake.
You can't understand what you read because you're an idiot.
Narrator: He is indeed an idiot
Jeff’s mom: My son is an idiot.
Not true, his mom didn't actually say that.
What she really said was "it's not nice to pick on idiots."
Jeff’s mom: There there, you’re a good boy Jeff, some day all those kids will regret picking on you for being fat.
He's paid to be an idiot. This was a classic chemjeff shitpost.
He’s paid to be an idiot.
Easy money.
Shorter chemjeff: I don't understand principles.
Chen had no idea he was violating campus policy in failing to get tested, but was suspended for a year anyway.
Bureaucracy more than any other endeavor doesn't need to make sense to continue to exist. In fact, it thrives on it. Add in public hysteria about the regulated and it's pure chef's kiss.
So strange on which topics Reason chooses to quote Paul on. He had a good confrontation regarding child surgeries this week as well. Yet... not a mention of it.
Why it's almost as if Reason isn't a platform for feeding red meat to conservatives obsessed over culture war issues.
It’s telling you consider sex change surgery for children against their parents consent a culture issue.
It's not telling so much as a long-time pattern at this point.
True.
Concerns about castration of children is just conservatives obsessed over culture war issues.
Fucking CLACLALS (Thanks, I invented it myself). Always trying to force their prejudices on everyone else.
Theyre just too dumb to underdtand !Science!
Actually, Paul quoted the WHO and several other international/globalist/socialist organizations that have been railing for years about the evil that is cultural norms favoring the genital mutilation of minors.
Lol. God damn you are a clown. Permanently altering a child's body isn't a culture war you sick fuck.
Like you actually give a shit about these kids. They are useful props in your culture war against the leftwingers whom you consider to be mentally ill and supposedly forcing their illness upon you. These same kids, who if they got sick with COVID, you would tell them to tough it out and if they die, well tough shit but everyone dies someday but don't dare tell you to wear a mask. These same kids, who if they got shot in a school shooting, you'd offer nothing but thoughts and prayers but don't dare tell you what to do with your guns. Fuck you and your fake concern.
Yeah, we all know how much you love kids, fat boy.
I love kids like a wolf loves sheep.
Oh - the ole - this is what you really meant, even though you never said it, objection.
Used to great effect against Trump, but then again, the media, academia, and Hollywood backed that play.
Doing so now in isolation is just pushing idiotic strawmen from a loser desperately seeking moral superiority. IE - it's just sad.
Keep in mind that the fat fuck posted a tweet from the pedophile-employing Lincoln Project yesterday.
https://twitter.com/kgosztola/status/1365151887561998336
Liberal celebration of covert acts of war.
It turns out the hypocrisy was the end rather than the means.
"Mr. Potato Head the toy will remain the strong, masculine spud he always was."
But, just in case, the newest version comes with multiple genitalia, so kids can switch him/her/it back and forth--just like in real life.
Toxic masculinity, anyone?
is why you gotta cook potatoes.
I first read that as cock potatoes.
The same Iranians we want to pay.
https://twitter.com/DanielLarison/status/1365280253648785412
To sum up, we have to bomb targets in Syria without authorization to protect the troops that are in Iraq without authorization in order to pursue an unauthorized anti-ISIS mission that is really just an excuse to keep troops in the country for anti-Iranian reasons.
If the Republican voters want Trump, is it not the Republican politicians job to persuade them otherwise or shut the fuck up? It isn't their job to try and force Trump out. And I hope Trump doesn't running 24, but if the voters want him, that is their choice. They shouldn't be dictated to by the party elites. Oh and BTW, I think Cheney, Murkowski and Romney are dead men walking, politically speaking and they realize it.
You seem to misunderstand the roles of peasants and aristocrats.
Apparently so.
They can form a party of sanctimonious assholes with Flake and Amash. Lincoln Party is looking for new people.
No, Murkowski will be fine because her family basically runs the state of Alaska. Cheney will definitely get Cantor'ed in 2022, so she better start getting her next DC lobbyist job lined up. Romney is going to be in his mid-70s by the time he's eligible to run again, and I doubt he'll have the stomach for politics anymore by that time.
The goal of all this "repudiate Trump" stuff is to encourage Trump to run as an independent and hand victory to Harris.
You don't have to convince R elites to oppose Trump. They did everything in their power to keep him from becoming the nominee in 2016, and they will do so again in the run-up to 2024. But it's not reasonable to expect a leading R official to preemptively oppose his party's potential nominee.
Mormons love Mormon nutcases like Mike Lee, so Romney may be in trouble. 2024 is a long way away.
Just ignore him, ChuckP. Don't even do the "flag refresh". The freak is dying for your attention.
Then why are you replying?
My post had nothing to do with that fat Mormon fuck. I was simply pointing out Mormons are crazy. Mike Lee is a goddamn evil nutcase. Romney's bad too.
https://twitter.com/KamalaHarris/status/985219586881675264
I strongly support our men and women in uniform and believe we must hold Assad accountable for his unconscionable use of chemical weapons. But I am deeply concerned about the legal rationale of last night’s strikes.
When has kamala ever been concerned about legal rational?
I wonder if she's still concerned?
If the USSA had a free press, I bet it would have asked.
Of course the GOP belongs to Trump. With a couple exceptions, the entire group of them is worthless. Who's longing for a return of the 2008-2016 GOP? Nobody.
Being the "acceptable" counter party to the democrats by caving on every major bill was so much better.
McCain was a Maverick!
The Democrats very own Washington Generals party.
Exactly. Being the Washington Generals at least has good job security.
Trump lost the GOP the House, the Senate, the presidency, as well as its claim to be the party that opposes mob violence.
That last item is what should actually sting. "I learned it from watching you" is an adolescent's response.
The first item is only true if you trust our cherished institutions, which after the spectacles they made of themselves the past four years, a significant number don't.
"Trump lost the GOP the House"
Except the GOP actually picked up a significant number of House seats in the last election. Not enough to tip it over, but Robby's not being honest here.
"as well as its claim to be the party that opposes mob violence"
1. How many elected Republicans made statements of support for the protest on the sixth.
2. How was the protest "mob violence"? From Sicknick's death, to the zip-ties, to the poo-smear story we've seen the entire narrative fall apart. The only thing I've truly seen that was violent was a fat fuck trying to scratch an officer's eyes out.
Again, Robby's not being honest here.
Is that a surprise, that Soave misrepresents things, or fails to provide complete context? That is a bad habit he picked up.
That may be, but I’d bet that a lot more people read the roundup this week.
Except the GOP actually picked up a significant number of House seats in the last election. Not enough to tip it over, but Robby’s not being honest here.
And the seats that were picked up were largely not Bush-type Republicans. They were Trump-type populists. For god's sake, Lauren Boebert--a small-business restaurant owner--took her district over an experienced Republican politician and a Boomer state house Democrat.
I wouldn't call it a peaceful event. Some things got broken, some people got pushed around. There was some violence. Pretty minor as far as I can see.
Calling it a "siege" or "insurrection" is absurd, but it was only mostly peaceful.
But it is certainly worth mentioning that pretty much all republican politicians condemned any violence that did happen. Their reputation may be slightly tarnished, but compared to Dems, they are still the party that opposes mob violence.
"Sen. Bernie Sanders (I–Vt.) wants to punish large corporations that don't pay their workers a $15 minimum wage."
Yawn.
I cannot stress this enough — ignore what Democrats say they're going to do with respect to economic issues, and pay attention to what actually happens when they're in power.
In 2021 Democrats have raised the minimum wage by: $0.00 / hour
In 2021 Reason.com benefactor Charles Koch's net worth has increased by: $2.89 billion
Larry Page is up $11 billion. Sergey Brin's about the same. Demonstrating that Biden knows he's in office to undo the disastrous anti-billionaire policies of his predecessor.
#InDefenseOfBillionaires
“Sen. Bernie Sanders (I–Vt.) wants to help large corporations by putting smaller competitors that can't afford to pay their workers a $15 minimum wage, out of business.”
I'm actually quite pleased.
I use
Guatemalan slavesundocumented workers for my menial tasks anyway, so it's no skin off my nose. The Republican Civil War is over before it began. It's Trump's party until the bitter end.
It's been reported that Trump had Democrats voting for him in 2016 and grew the number of minorities voting GOP since. It might mean something other than the pajama class thinks it means.
I posted the gains with blacks, latino. And Asians yesterday. He lost due to woke white liberals indoctrinated in college.
What were seeing is an odd thing form. A worker's party completely bereft of any ties to Marxism and Socialism.
We haven't seen anything like that since the nineteenth century.
It's amazing the degree to which Democrats have made it clear that they simply hate productive people of any background. Their heroes are mostly career politicians, celebrities, equity hucksters, and other parasites. If someone ever comes along with as much anti-globalist populist fire as Trump but without the defects of temperament and personality that sabotaged him, watch out.
Trumpism without Trump's failings is an appealing idea, but it wasn't just his policies, but his willingness to fight even as the establishment threw everything that they had against him.
There are very few people who wouldn't wilt when the whole bureaucracy, press core and corporate world are trying to fuck you over.
Even little Robby who isn't really establishment told a few fibs, that he knows are fibs, about Trump in this very article today. Imagine having to face that times one million from everywhere.
Probably only a handful of people in the whole country are capable of staring down the power centers like Trump did.
To bad Elon Musk was born in South Africa.
Robby's take on Trump and the GOP smacks an awful lot like a supposed libertarian arguing elites should overrule their voters because Orange Man Bad. And this is coming from someone who will change back to Republican to vote against Trump in the primaries in 24 if it comes to that.
Not a big fan of primaries but as long as they exist then we should honor them.
elites should overrule their voters because Orange Man Bad.
Because the voters are always right?
When did it become libertarian orthodoxy to trust the mob?
So you're arguing for elites to have power to overrule the mob? When was elitism a libertarian ideal? It is even less libertarian than mob rule. And we are talking voter preference, e.g. who they want to vote for not mob rule since we aren't a pure democracy the mob rule argument is sophomoric.
1. Yes, Jeff supports elites having power over us.
2. Yes, Jeff is sophomoric.
So you’re arguing for elites to have power to overrule the mob?
Sometimes - yes. See the French Revolution for a case study of what happens when the mob runs amok.
When was elitism a libertarian ideal?
Elitism in the defense of liberty is a libertarian ideal because the goal here is to defend liberty, not to placate the mob.
Who determines who the elite is and who determines when they are right? That doesn't sound like liberty to me. And even a benovolent tyrant is still a tyrant and a threat to liberty. No, elitism is not libertarian at all.
Keep in mind you’re talking to someone who supports shooting unarmed protesters.
Unarmed protestors that are violently breaking through a door with intent to harm the Vice President, congress members, guests and staff that are on the other side of the door? Why do you leave that detail out?
Because it’s a fantasy in your head.
Hey, aren’t you the guy who’s always whining about other posters making assumptions based on what your posts imply? Maybe that’s Jeff, just asking.
Either way, you clearly know the intent of others based on distant observation.
She’s got a narrative to push, and that’s what she’s gonna do.
"distant observation"
You mean did I use one of those newfangled "tele-vision" devices to view, from thousands of miles away, close-up motion images of what happened?
Actually, it being 2021, I don't think I saw any of it on a "tele-vision". I saw a lot of it on an iPad, which is like those space-agey tablets they had in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Who determines who the elite is and who determines when they are right?
Well, a great many of them are selected by the voters. Some are judges, selected by politicians, who are selected by voters. Some are bureaucrats, selected by other bureaucrats, selected by politicians, selected by voters. So voters do in the end select all the elites but in a very very indirect way. And once they are there, their job is to protect liberty and not to cater to the whims of the mob even if the mob is angry and upset. See it now?
Then they aren't elites. They are servants of the people. Which just reinforces my original post about how if the voters want Trump than that is their right. Fuck thank you for making my argument for me.
ha ha ha sure, they are "servants of the people". That Senator you vote for, once he has that vote in his hand, he isn't listening to you anymore.
"Elitism in the defense of liberty is a libertarian ideal because the goal here is to defend liberty, not to placate the mob."
----ChemJeff
What a moron!
Who do you expect to protect your rights, Ken? The mob? Hint: It's going to be UNELECTED ELITES IN ROBES who are going to tell the mob to STFU and protect rights.
Unelected but appointed by an elected official and confirmed by elected officials. Not elitist but answerable to the people still. They all are answerable to the people in the end. We don't elect elites to rule us, we elect people to represent and serve us. Big fucking difference. The fact that you are staying we elect elites to rule us shows you don't understand how the system is supposed to work.
Jeff understands what elites means as well as he does globalists.
Voters aren't always right but it beats being ruled by aristocratic elites.
If only we had some sort of system in which even if the majority votes for one thing, there is still a baseline of rights that can't be voted away.
And if that system wasn't undermined over the years by those elected to office.
And sworn to protect that system.
Are you referring to that moldy old document signed by old white men?
Yeah . . .
Markets are nothing but people making choices.
The problem with representative democracy is that it's insufficiently democratic. It's nowhere near as democratic as a market, where we can all represent our own interests without any politicians in the way.
And the reason ChemJeff doesn't understand the difference between democracy not always being right and the need for elitists to inflict their judgements on the rest of us is because he isn't knowledgeable and isn't very bright.
AIR, he once claimed he was more libertarian than the rest of us because he voted for Jorgensen and supported Harry Browne! Even IF IF IF it's true that he did those things, he probably didn't understand what they were saying and why--either that or all the basic libertarian things he used to know, he doesn't know anymore.
A lot of silly liberals have come here over the years imagining that the reason we're libertarian capitalists rather than progressives is because we're too ignorant or too confused. They come here to set us straight, only to find themselves overwhelmed with the realization of their own ignorance and confusion. At that point, they typically go one of two ways--they either become trolls or they just fade away.
Honestly, facts, and logic have a libertarian and capitalist bias. None of us were born knowing what we know, and almost all of us grew up believing things that turned out to be false. At some point, we went through a process where we decided to be right rather wrong, even if it meant giving up our false, cherished beliefs. Not everyone is capable of that. Plenty of people would rather be stupid, ignorant, poor, and oppressed rather than admit to themselves that they were wrong.
The problem with representative democracy is that it’s insufficiently democratic.
No, Ken. The problem with representative democracy is that it is TOO democratic PLUS it has the coercive use of force backing up its actions.
What is the alternative then?
"it is TOO democratic
This sounds like a job for Stalin.
Lol. This is almost as bad as your trespassing as a capital offense comments. You seemingly want to overrule voters because you know better.
You are an authoritarian globalist.
You seemingly want to overrule voters because you know better.
Since you claim to be such a constitutionalist, you should be very aware of all of the times that the Constitution puts elites in charge over the mob. They very deliberately did not choose a parliamentary style of governance which would give more power to the mob than what we currently have. Wonder why that is, Jesse?
So are you in favor of throwing out the Constitution in favor of parliamentary democracy? Or direct democracy?
Jeff is Cathy Newman.
The Constitution doesn't put anyone in power or create elites. It protects individual rights and creates a purposeful system of conflict between branches of government and between state rights and federalism. It does the exact opposite of creating elites by curtailing the power of those elected and is one of the most anti-elitist things ever written. What a bullshit argument.
If ChemJeff knew what he was talking about, he might have cited the electoral college or Senators being appointed by state legislatures, but he apparently doesn't know what he's talking about--not that either of those are examples of what he's talking about.
He's just blabbing.
There isn't anything in the Constitution about how politicians should show contempt for the voters (Orange Man bad or otherwise). In fact, both the First Amendment and Second Amendment are about how the voters and the law should show contempt for politicians.
"Congress shall make no law . . . "
----First Amendment
What's that about if not showing contempt for elitists?
Yes even state appointed citizens and the electoral college were voted on by state legislatures which were voted for by the people. It didn't create elites. Even judges are appointed and voted on by people who, even second hand, where elected by the people.
State appointed senators
There isn’t anything in the Constitution about how politicians should show contempt for the voters
THE ENTIRE FUCKING SYSTEM is "contempt for voters". In the original construction of the Republic, voters only got to vote - maybe - for their state representatives. That's it!
If you were living in 1790 America, you would, more than likely, only get to vote if you were a white male property owner, and even then, you only got to vote for your state representative once every two or four years, and you got to vote for your federal representative once every two years. After that, you have exercised the full measure of your electoral power. You didn't get to vote for Senators, you didn't get vote for Electoral College electors, you didn't get to vote on ANY judges, not even state judges, you didn't get to vote on referenda because there weren't any referenda to vote on. From that alone, an entire army of elites got to rule over you that you had little or no choice in their selection. And that was constructed BY DESIGN. The Founding Fathers themselves had contempt for the mob. Recall that originally they didn't even want the Bill of Rights because they thought it was clear enough that Congress couldn't do those things without those amendments. Why? Because *the elites would be the ones in charge* not letting Congress do those things.
Some opposed the BOR, not all. As for the property to vote rule, it differed from state to state and wasn't universal. Someone only half paid attention in History class and believes historical myths as a result.
In fact some refuses to pass the Constitution without a BOR.
In 1789 Georgia banned the property owning requirement several other states restricted only to tax paying males. New Jersey allowed unmarried women in 1789 to vote and free blacks who owned property or paid taxes. So your wrong on several accounts.
.....And the government exercised 0 powers not delineated in the Constitution.
No Commerce Dept, no Labor Dept, Education Department, no HUD, no CPB, and the State Dept was concerned with protecting us from being invaded, not negotiating nonbinding pseudoscience. No Administrative Procedures Act, no Chevron Rule, no AFSCME, and no Deep State
So voting for yiur Rep in 1796 gave you a LOT more direct control over your government then, dipshit.
The Constitution doesn’t put anyone in power or create elites.
Bullshit. What do you think Senators are? What do you think the Electoral College is?
The US Federal government as envisioned by the original Constitution was very much modeled after the 18th century British Parliament, where you had one chamber (House of Representatives, aka House of Commons) that the peasants got to vote for, and then you had another chamber (Senate, aka House of Lords) that had elites that could tamp down the passions of the mob when they got too uppity in the other chamber. The only difference is that in the 18th century version of the House of Lords, they were not elected at all but selected by the King, but in the US Senate, they were elected only very indirectly, by state legislatures, but not by the people themselves.
And then you had the whole Electoral College, which was supposed to be this entire assembly of elites to select the President every four years, in which it was completely optional if states even bothered to let the peasants vote for the electors or not. This was very much analogous to the aristocratic elite in Britain and other monarchies deciding how to select the next King once the old one died.
And then you had an entire third branch of government, the Judiciary, which was originally quite ill-defined and going to be staffed entirely by unelected elites.
The entire fucking document reeks of elites ruling over the peasants.
I can't believe I have to explain this to you all. Did you actually pay attention in history class?
See my answer above. Which you obviously missed.
I already addressed this as did Ken. In fact, I think you read our answers and changed your argument and copied exactly what we already stated but twisted it to your own goal. Nothing you stated disputes my point. In fact you just keep reinforcing it. Good job. Especially, ad I stated the counterpoint to your current argument directly above an hour before you posted this drivel.
I think our resident fifty-center's boss is reading their work today, so they're getting a bit panicky and are trying to cheat.
trespassing as a capital offense comments
And fuck you Jesse, I will not allow you to steal a base by continually misrepresenting what I wrote.
I wrote that IN A LIBERTARIAN FRAMEWORK, lethal force in defense of property against trespassers is justified. Which is basic libertarian canon 101. You are a lying shitheel who took that out of context and are now demagoguing the hell out of it to suggest I support something totally different. Fuck you and fuck your demagoguery.
Defense of private property. It becomes far less libertarian when it is the government using deadly force to protect public property from it's own citizens.
It wasn't a mere matter of protecting property. They were protecting the members of Congress, the Vice President, their staff and guests and family members from a violent mob.
When she got shot all the big wigs had already left, Wormtongue. Unarmed women aren't even a threat even if they hadn't.
staff
Or do their lives not count because they aren’t big wigs
And how are the police guarding the door supposed to know where all the people other police are guarding are, in the middle of the chaos of a riot?
Unarmed protestors != violent mob which means no one was in need of protection.
That's a convenient bar you have set for what can be counted as violent. If you don't have guns, you cannot be violent using aluminum poles, eye gouging, crushing people in doors, throwing fire extinguishers, using sheer physical mob force, etc.?
Gee, why even bother with elections? Why don't we just Fortify Our Democracy to the point where we don't even pretend to hold elections and just have a hereditary class of inbred hicks make all of our policy decisions for us?
At this point, the inbred hicks couldn't do any worse than the Super-Duper Smart Big City bugpeople that are currently running things.
Oh , yes they could.
Oh, no they couldn't.
I actually agree. I can definitely see the House of Windsor or Oranje doing a better job than the Bidens and Bushes we have now.
"Because the voters are always right?"
Wow! I can't believe that he actually said it.
"The horrific spectacle of January 6, when Trump's bombastic rhetoric and embrace of conspiracy theories resulted in a literal assault on Congress,"
Robbie, no.
AOC almost died.
Just because you're some distance away from the inSurrECtion, in a completely different building complex, and didn't see it happening, doesn't mean that Ted Cruz and his deplorable army weren't trying to kill you.
She's taking the White Knight approach to proximity arguments. If it was possibly bad, and it happened in the same city, in the same month, then it's violent inSurrECtion.
"Just because you’re some distance away from the inSurrECtion, in a completely different building complex, and didn’t see it happening, doesn’t mean that Ted Cruz and his deplorable army weren’t trying to kill you."
Well, since you brought it up, you are correct. It doesn't mean they were not trying to kill you. It just means they didn't succeed.
If by "in a completely different building complex", you are referring to Trump, he did see it happening. He was watching it go down on TV.
You mean they almost killed him too?
He was watching it go down on TV
Along with AOC and millions of others, the bastard.
It doesn’t mean they were not trying to kill you. It just means they didn’t succeed
Kill you with what when they're unarmed and you're not there? A intercontinental ballistic fire extinguisher? Whoops, I guess not.
I don't know. Maybe the noose that they hung out in front of the Capitol building. There are lots of ways to kill someone.
OMG! Another noose scandal!
There were nooses and guillotines at every single protest in Washington last year, including when they stormed the Whitehouse. Why was that one suddenly violent, Wormtongue?
DC Protesters Put Trump Effigy Under Guillotine During White House RNC Speech
It's standard symbolism at virtually every DC protest ever. Even Bezos wasn't exempt:
Protesters set up guillotine in front of Jeff Bezos' DC home
You're so fucking dishonest White Knight. Your narrative is dead.
It wasn't even a real gibbet, just a 2x4 and cardboard thing.
The new face of domestic terror
https://twitter.com/ajzeigler/status/1365104199827087360?s=19
I am uncomfortable with the FBI sharing an image of what appears to be a teenage girl & demanding the public search for her.
I just reported you for domestic terrorism, for sharing a tweet opposed to using the mob to hunt down obvious white supremacist domestic terrorists.
I also told them to be careful because you're an anti-mask COVID denier who will LITERALLY endager their lives by breathing at them.
And also for hate speech, for deadnaming Xrs. Potato Head.
Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby confirmed that President Joe Biden ordered the strikes in response to "continuing threats to American and coalition personnel there..."
It's not like those American personnel are leaving any time in the next four years.
Needless to say, these objections will vanish now that a member of Team Blue is in charge.
There's always Code Pink.
Poor Cindy Sheehan - she hated Jews as much as KAR hates Mormons.
Next US war will be Reason's war. You guys could have supported a President who wanted to avoid war but you were too shallow and vain.
Every time ENB goes on vacation I find myself hoping she finally took a job with MSNBC or Jacobin. I think the me of 4 years ago would have been amazed to hear I would strongly prefer Robby over some other young reason writer.
Although I think it's great that Reason.com writers so often go on to work for explicitly progressive organizations, I don't want to lose ENB. I need at least 3 abortion-related stories in every Roundup and she consistently delivers.
^this
I should add that I've really enjoyed Robby's reporting on the campus/wokepocalypse/PC police beat
So, who recently said this?
"The biggest corporations in America can afford to pay their workers $15 an hour."
Was it:
(A) Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
(B) Nancy Pelosi
(C) Joe Biden
or....
(D) https://www.newsweek.com/josh-hawley-backs-15-minimum-wage-one-condition-1571530
Great find, jeff!
The fundamental point here is that Hawley might actually believe that nonsense. Whereas AOC, Pelosi, Biden, and pretty much all modern Democrats pretend to care about economic inequality ....... then proceed to govern in a way that helps their billionaire base.
Which ones have actually signed onto legislation that would make it happen?
Keep moving those goalposts, Jesse.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/sarahhansen/2021/02/26/republican-sen-josh-hawley-proposes-legislation-requiring-15-minimum-wage-for-billion-dollar-companies/?sh=7e7d9dfb3edd
"Oh, but does Josh Hawley really MEAN-mean it??? Huh???"
"Keep moving those goalposts"
How was Jesse moving goalposts? You're such a stupid fuck, at least try and understand the idioms you're using, beforehand.
I'll explain it to you.
chemjeff's comment was referring to who SAID this. JesseAz moved the goal post to "actually signed onto legislation".
That's not moving goalposts you stupid fuck.
It's when you change your original criteria, not when others bring up additional issues. If Jesse had said "X", and then chemleft successfully rebutted him, so Jesse replied "Oh, yeah well you still haven't answered "Y", then that would be moving goalposts.
You're so amazingly retarded. Everything you talk about turns out to be bullshit.
Youre talking to idiots.
Baloney. Either party in a debate can attempt to move the goal posts, despite Mother's Lament trying to act as a governing body over which kind of goal post moving counts.
Oh, that's right. Mother's Lament is also the governing body over who is allowed to coin an acronym.
It’s not that you’re not allowed to coin acronyms. It’s that the one you coined is stupid, and then you bragged about coining it.
Just another example of others making fun of you and you not getting it.
Coin as many daft acronyms as you want, White Knight. I won't stop you.
But I'm still going to mock you over them.
Fact check: not true.
"Baloney. Either party in a debate can attempt to move the goal posts"
Of their own original criteria, you gibbering moron. Not that of others.
This is exactly like when you doubled down and insisted that Hydrogen dioxide was essentially the same thing as water. You're so catastrophically ignorant.
I was amazed by his reiteration of the erroneous definition as well.
He could have just googled the meaning first without embarrassing himself.
I didn't set up goal posts fatty. I pointed out your idiocy.
So all four of them support it, but the actual quote is what matters to you. Why? Because you’re a left wing Democrat.
"... but the actual quote is what matters to you"
Way to put words in chemjeff's mouth!
Or I just read his post and don’t fuck up my reading comprehension like you.
Cool! Then you can quote to me the precise part of Jeff’s comment where he spoke in favor of the minimum wage hike?
Go ahead. I’m waiting...
Can you quote to me the precise part of R Mac's comment where he said Jeff spoke in favor of the minimum wage hike?
Go ahead. I’m waiting…
R Mac is right. Your reading comprehension is shit.
I didn’t say Jeff did, I said all the people he mentioned do. So. Fucking. Stupid.
How many mega corps only pay minimum wage?
In my experience, for any job like that, such as janitorial or cafeteria workers, big corporations outsource the minimum wage type jobs out to a contractor.
So your saying you’re a janitor.
No, that require skills.
No, but what would be wrong with being a janitor? It’s honest work. Maybe the most honest types of work.
Cool! Then you can quote to me the precise part of R Mac’s comment where he said being a janitor is wrong?
Go ahead. I’m waiting…
Cool! Then you can quote me the precise part of my comment where I said R Mac said being a janitor is wrong.
Go ahead. I'm waiting...
Haha, now your flailing!
Here you go, tard: "No, but what would be wrong with being a janitor?"
You don’t logic very well.
What's logical about your lack of reading comprehension?
Any chance the Peace crowd is organizing rallies this weekend to condemn President Biden's military actions in Syria? Didn't think so.
Biden acted presidential with his order.
"Sen. Bernie Sanders (I–Vt.) wants to punish large corporations that don't pay their workers a $15 minimum wage."
----Robby
It should be noted that this was Sanders' reaction to the Senate Parliamentarian issuing her judgement that the $15 minimum wage is inappropriate for the purposes of budget reconciliation.
"Senate Budget Committee Chairman Bernie Sanders and Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden said Thursday evening they were considering the strategy after prospects for making a wage increase part of the relief package were dealt a severe blow.
Earlier Thursday, the Senate parliamentarian ruled that Democrats’ minimum-wage proposal fell afoul of rules for the legislative process that congressional leaders are using for Biden’s $1.9 trillion aid bill. Requirements dictate that measures be primarily fiscal in nature; taxes are a component of fiscal policy.
----Bloomberg
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-02-26/key-senators-float-tax-on-big-firms-to-enable-minimum-wage-hike?
The reason the Senate Democrats needed the Senate Parliamentarian to declare the minimum wage hike to be eligible as budget reconciliation with the rest of the $1.9 trillion stimulus package is because budget reconciliation bills only require a simply majority to pass rather than 60%, meaning that the Republicans couldn't block it or filibuster. The Senate Democrats are planning to force the stimulus through as budget reconciliation because it wouldn't pass if it required Republicans to vote for it.
If Bernie Sanders and company are able to get it tied to a bill to tax businesses, it would presumably be eligible for consideration as a budget reconciliation bill.
It's interesting that we keep reading stories about the stimulus, budget reconciliation bills, etc., around here and elsewhere, without much to indicate that these bills are opposed almost universally by the Republicans. You can only write a story about the Democrats bending over backwards to get around Republican opposition to these bills so many times--without mentioning the opposition of the Republicans--before people start smelling a rat.
Is it wrong to mention that the Republicans oppose the $1.9 trillion stimulus bill, bailing out the states, increasing the minimums wage to $15, etc., etc. for some reason?
Also, mentioning that all these moves are hardly reconciliatory or meant as a way to "work together".
Once again the Democrats say compromise when they really mean copulate.
Damn autocorrect but copulate works to since they mean to fuck us all over.
+1
Hawt!
"copulate"
I'd something something AOC if she let me.
seconds.
As long as Bernie and the rest of congress can still use unpaid interns why should they care?
First off; does Biden even know he ordered air strikes?
Secondly, the attack on our facility was a result of Biden's weakness shown by accommodating Iran without precondition.
The alleged civil war in the republican party was entirely a fantasy of the socialists. Trump no more 'took over' the party than any other elected candidate. Once he won, the party follows him. Elections have results; even within a party.
The toy that looks like a potato has been a full fledged pussy since they removed all the pointy parts (pun intended) designed for real potatoes and went with synthetics.
Once he won, the party follows him.
No no, I was told over and over again that if a presidential candidate wins, it's backbencher House members like AOC who *really* control the direction of the party.
"No no, I was told over and over again that if a presidential candidate wins, it’s backbencher House members like AOC who *really* control the direction of the party."
You shouldn't listen to those voices in your head, but then if you didn't you wouldn't have anything to argue against.
But Josh Hawley!
Have you ever not defended democrats?
You mistake "criticizing Republicans" with "defending Democrats".
See, right here, I am mocking the right-wing freakout that occurred during the election season when plenty of people, you included I'm pretty sure, kept trying to tell people that if Biden won, the "left wing crazies" would be in charge.
I'm not defending Biden or AOC. I'm mocking you. You think that's "defending Democrats" because you are a partisan asshole.
You forget that criticism of Republicans equals tacit support for Democrats. Even criticism of Democrats equals tacit support if it's not done exactly thirty times. Not twenty nine, and not thirty one. Must be exactly thirty.
If you, chemjeff, or I were to criticize the Democrats thirty times the bar would be raised to fifty.
Naw. They'd leave it at thirty and then lie about how many times we said it.
Or at least I hope that they would. Any attention is good attention... I'm so lonely.
OMG, Tulpa, the irony is so rich.
Mad at Tulpa? You should steal my handle to teach him a lesson!
He has a nurse friend that he simps for. Probably why he's a Democrat now.
You have never posted a statement you've made criticizing them last year. Odd.
You spent a year and a half running into threads calling everyone trump cultists. Now you crying a bitch when it comes back to you. You still barely attack biden or democrats even though you stated you attacked those on power. You've brought trump into discussions more this year than you have biden. You're a fucking alcoholic joke.
If you, TDS-addled shit, were to argue against anything other than some hypothetical, perhaps you wouldn't get laughed at as much as you do.
I regularly argue against your not seeking psychological help for your anger issues. Your anger issues are not hypothetical; they are very real and backed up by a LOT of evidence.
"I regularly argue against your not seeking psychological help for your anger issues."
So you regularly assume I need help and that's not a hypothetical?
Your hypotheticals are growing hypotheticals, asshole.
In Dee’s defense, she’s very dumb and probably doesn’t know what hypothetical means.
We'll seek help together Sevo.
You for your anger issue and I for my pathological dishonesty.
Pathological dishonesty — we need to get JesseAz in on getting help on that one.
...Because I like to project too.
Lol. You both called anyone attacking democrats last year trump cultists. Fucking hilarious.
"First off; does Biden even know he ordered air strikes?"
Not saying I don't believe you, but I have not heard that. Where did you get that? Cite?
And if you do have a cite I'll either ignore it and ghost the thread, or I'll claim that the source is compromised, or I'll ask for it to be notarized.
Either way I'll be asking for a cite on the same issue tomorrow. It's how I try to cast doubt on your statement.
It was a question.
TDS-addled shit has very difficult problems separating his fantasies from reality.
Yeah, you are right about that. I misread it.
Hahaha!
Meh.
"The alleged civil war in the republican party was entirely a fantasy of the socialists."
Yeah, total imagination...
Trump: "Mike Pence didn't have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution, giving States a chance to certify a corrected set of facts, not the fraudulent or inaccurate ones which they were asked to previously certify. USA demands the truth!"
Trump: "Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack, and if Republican Senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again," Trump said in the statement. "He will never do what needs to be done, or what is right for our Country. Where necessary and appropriate, I will back primary rivals who espouse Making America Great Again and our policy of America First. We want brilliant, strong, thoughtful, and compassionate leadership."
I fail to see how Trump trashtalking Pence and Cocaine Mitch equates to civil war.
Really? You honestly fail to see that?
White Excrement thinks mean words are violence.
You do realize that "civil war in the republican party" is a metaphor, don't you. Nobody means literal violent civil war when they say that.
It's also hyperbole.
Disagreement != civil war
Yes really. I honestly fail to see that.
It will be the first civil war fought entirely with fire extinguishers.
Smokey the Bear approves.
Why are you living in the past?
No, it was more than that. Biden's winning the Democratic nomination for president doesn't even go that far. Obama's winning the nomination didn't usher in any particular tendency among the Democrats. McCain's and Romney's winning the Republican nomination didn't either. And so on. Most of the time it's as described above.
Trump's nomination was palpably different. He wasn't just one of many saying the same thing and acting the same way. He was brought into the party and awakened others who weren't active previously.
"...The horrific spectacle of January 6, when Trump's bombastic rhetoric and embrace of conspiracy theories resulted in a literal assault on Congress,..."
The pile of TDS-inspired shit continues to pour onto the reason.com site.
Stuff your TDS up you ass, Soave. Your head needs some company.
I don't understand why they are arresting and threatening to prosecute the mostly peaceful protesters at the Capitol - they're Trump supporters. And we all know that Trump supporters are retarded little children who have no agency, when Trump told them to go forth and smite his enemies they went forth and smote his enemies. After stopping to ask what "smite" means. How can you hold them responsible for doing what they were told to do when they don't know no better?
It seems that the democrats do not realize by saying Trump started an insurrection before even speaking, they are attributing a super power to him.
Trump's an evil Acheron and can use the power of time!
I recall when the US intervened in Vietnam’s civil war. How did that work out again?
Had Orange Man Bad done this it would have resulted in an impeachment trifecta.
For those born after that piece of history, it started under a democrat, greatly expanded under a democrat, and was ended by a republican.
Kennedy from less than a thousand "advisors" to over 16,000 troops.
Johnson then went up to over 500,000 troops.
Oh, yes, and draftees, not volunteers.
Shoveling boys into war like coal into a furnace.
Chen still must kiss the ring by writing two 1,000-word "reflective essays" and completing 25 hours of community service
Maybe this sort of thing is the out for Cuomo and Newsom.
Doesn't requiring community service require that the potential Typhoid Mary COVID-19 super spreader dude get out in the community, increasing the risks beyond the breaking point?
Wouldn't house arrest be more appropriate?
Consider the following:
1) "The city has lost 500,000 private sector jobs since March 2020."
2) "Tens of thousands of small businesses have closed or will do so when the eviction moratorium ends, and back rent comes due, likely May 1."
3) "Fewer than 15% of office workers are back in their pre-pandemic workplace"
4) "300,000 city residents of higher income neighborhoods have filed “change of address” with the U.S. Postal Service."
5) "5,000 New York City restaurants have closed"
----Gleaned from Partnership for New York City
https://pfnyc.org/news/jobs-not-taxes-should-be-top-priority-for-2021-22/
That piece by Partnership for New York City is arguing against raising taxes because New York City is set to receive so much money from Biden and the Democrats' $1.9 trillion stimulus package working its way through Congress, but the idea that you would raise taxes on an economy suffering so badly is absurd in the first place. That's the process whereby tens of thousands of homes and commercial properties in Detroit became worth less than the cost to demolish them. Why should it ever be necessary to argue against beating a dead economy to death by raising taxes?
And this further underscores the stupidity of bailing out states like New York. The reason they're so desperate for a bailout courtesy of the federal taxpayer is because they're desperate to preserve the outrageous pensions and government jobs of those that benefit from their political machine.
From a moral perspective, forcing federal taxpayers in states that didn't impose such monumentally awful and restrictive lock down policies on their economies to underwrite the damage New York inflicted on itself is wrong. People in other states don't get to vote for Cuomo or de Blasio, and before America meant anything else, it meant no taxation with representation. In addition to that, however, it should also be noted that bailing out New York won't alleviate the cause of their problems. Those businesses and residents aren't coming back because of the bailout, and the solution to their problems isn't raising taxes--neither in New York state nor New York City.
Please consider that the alternative is to cut government spending, meaning THEIR jobs.
When I think about all the government bureaucrats in New York City who would have lost their jobs if Trump had won and there had been no bail out of the states, it makes me feel bad for the people of New York, but it also makes me feel bad for the people of California and Illinois. The government will never cut spending until there is no other choice, and if it weren't for the bail out, those states would have no choice but to lay off government employees and cut their future pension obligations. I wish it were just New York.

Chen still must kiss the ring by writing two 1,000-word "reflective essays" and completing 25 hours of community service, down from 80 hours in his original punishment.
The struggle sessions are real.
Well, those essays could reflect on administration fascism, and the community service could be for republican candidates.
Or not.
https://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2021/02/24/california-collapsing/
If California continues to trail-blaze the future for the rest of the United States, that future is now clear: It is a high taxation society with a huge, impoverished, unemployed and unemployable destitute class where the middle class is annihilated, organized gangs and general chaotic street crime including muggings, rapes and murders metastasize in all major urban areas and gangs more numerous and heavily armed than the police operate openly with impunity.
With an ultra-rich elite that live in gated communities and have to hire armed security so their kids aren't kidnapped by cartels for ransom money.
Gee, I wonder what other nation in the North American continent operates like this?
Starting to sound like the Bronx from the 1970's.
Jesus Christ.
https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/leaked-emails-confirm-un-gave-names-dissidents-ccp
In fact, it appears from the leaked documents that the practice of handing over names of Chinese dissidents to the dictatorship was viewed as a “usual practice” by all involved. The whistleblower told The Epoch Times that it continues to this day, despite UN denials.
Chinese communist authorities used the names received from the UN to prevent the dissidents from leaving China. At least one dissident identified by the UN and detained by the CCP before leaving for Geneva, Cao Shunli, died while in detention.
If the dissident expected to embarrass Beijing at the UN was already abroad, the CCP frequently threatened or even kidnapped and tortured the person’s family, according to UN whistleblower Emma Reilly, who first exposed the scandal.
"died while in detention."
Most likely from that damn US Army flu.

Middle Easterners Begin Painting Transgender Flag Colors On Doorposts To Avoid Biden Drone Strikes
Gotta love the Bee; but Biden probably has forgotten what those flag colors mean after the cultural appropriation of the rainbow from the Jews by the homosexuals.
11 I confirm My covenant with you that never again will every creature be wiped out by the waters of a flood; there will never again be a flood to destroy the earth.”

Hello my name is Rev kuck it has been 13 days since I last clicked a sullum article
Trump lost the GOP the House, the Senate, the presidency, as well as its claim to be the party that opposes mob violence.
A lot of very interesting takes on this one.
I missed that part.
There's so much wrong with that, it's hard to know where to start.
I guess you start with the fact that because 70% of Republicans don't believe the election was free and fair, it doesn't mean that Republican party supports mob violence.
The next point probably has something to do with the fact that the Republicans gained seats in the House in 2020.
"I guess you start with the fact that because 70% of Republicans don’t believe the election was free and fair, it doesn’t mean that Republican party supports mob violence."
No, but remaining pro-Trump after he whipped up a MAGA crowd into invading the Capitol building is abandoning all claims that one is opposed to mob violence.
Are we at least finally coming to face the inexorable conclusion that the Democrats are the party of mob violence, and we're just smug and happy that some republicans are finally getting on board?
No, White Excrement will defend his lefty boos to the end.
Both major parties have thug followers. I don't know about you, but I'm not happy about either contingent of thugs.
The thing that was new under the sun with January 6th was that it was the President himself cheering on the thugs.
"Both major parties have thug followers. I don’t know about you, but I’m not happy about either contingent of thugs..."
Now we sling the 'above the fray' bullshit.
I'm sure that your limited capabilities do not allow you to see how pathetic you are and why you are a laughing-stock.
"No, but remaining pro-Trump after he whipped up a MAGA crowd into invading the Capitol building is abandoning all claims that one is opposed to mob violence."
TDS-addled shit is just like turd; hoping that repeating blatant lies often enough will somehow convince intelligent people that they become reality.
Hint, asshole: They don't. They're still lies.
Good! Good! Let the anger flow through you! With the proper training you will be a Trith Lord!
Just responding to the stupid you post, asshole.
You know. A less angry person would have the option to just ignore my post, and let it go.
"You know. A less angry person would have the option to just ignore my post, and let it go."
Someone not as stupid as you wouldn't constantly post stupid. And then whine about being called on it.
Stop mangling movie lines.
But I think it's hilarious because Trump + Sith = Trith. Isn't that clever?
Those Canadians might say I'm stupid, but could a stupid person come up with something as witty as "Trith"?
You coined it!
And didn't something like 30% of Democrats not believe it was free and fair?
"70 percent of Republicans now say they don’t believe the 2020 election was free and fair, a stark rise from the 35 percent of GOP voters who held similar beliefs before the election. Meanwhile, trust in the election system grew for Democrats, many who took to the streets to celebrate Biden’s victory on Saturday. Ninety percent of Democrats now say the election was free and fair, up from 52 percent before Nov. 3 who thought it would be.
----Politico
https://www.politico.com/news/2020/11/09/republicans-free-fair-elections-435488
A majority of Republicans thought it would be free and fair before the election, and a majority of Democrats thought it wouldn't be free and fair before the election.
Somehow the Democrats weren't insurrectionists for thinking that before the election, and the Republicans suddenly became insurrectionists for thinking that after the election.
And, everybody, please note, that poll was taken two months before the Capitol riot.
I suspect you see similar polls about whether officiating during the Stanley Cup will be fair before and after the series--in the teams' home towns.
The percentage who think it will be fair will be higher in the winner's home town after the series and lower before. Likewise, in the loser's home town, the percentage who think the series was called fairly will drop after the loss.
And, um, that doesn't make any team's fans a bunch of insurrectionists. No, Habs fans are insurrectionists (and will burn the place down whether they win or lose) for completely different reasons!
Huh, I swear I had read some poll that said 30% of Democrats believed there were shenanigans in the election. Meaning 70% believed Biden was the most voted for president in the history of the solar system-- which seems reasonable.
From a poll a week after the one Ken posted: https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/matt-margolis/2020/11/19/whoa-nearly-a-third-of-democrats-believe-the-election-was-stolen-from-trump-n1160882
An easy explanation for the difference is simply more information about election irregularities after another week.
Also, could be differences in methodology or it could be that this one poll is an outlier that got a lot of play in right wing media. I can't find any followups after two or three searches.
continuing threats to American and coalition personnel there"
It used to take an actual attack on American interest to get droned now its just threats. Will they use the same excuse on "domestic terrorist" for threatening to vote differently now
"Unprecedented numbers of students have disappeared during the pandemic."
Maybe those students never existed and the schools were scaming us for the money just like all the prisoners and non californians scamming the employment office out of billions

Deescalation through escalation ! Brilliant !

Words are violence, not bombs.

So we have put aside America First foreign policy to go back to normal bog standard Democrat Wilsonian foreign policy. Praise be to being the World's Policeman once more.
Damn if only Ron Paul had won in 08...debt would below 5T, no wars and millions of foreign people dead, a reducded and most irrelevant federal govt...real economic growth...sound money..and a very small hedge fund industry (along with plenty of FB/Twitter/Google competition). GOP should have just thrown the Troytsky neocons out of the party and acted like real conservatives...
interesting that Siskind has apparently deleted her tweet about how responsible Biden is for unnecessarily participating in Syria's civil war.

The airstrikes were the first military action undertaken by the Biden administration, which in its first weeks has emphasized its intent to put more focus on the challenges posed by China, even as Mideast threats persist. Biden’s decision to attack in Syria did not appear to signal an intention to widen U.S. military involvement in the region but rather to demonstrate a will to defend U.S. troops in Iraq.
