(White House video)

After being temporarily banned from Twitter yesterday, President Donald Trump returning this evening with a video condemning the "heinous attack on the United States Capitol," before acknowledging that he lost November's election and conceding.

"A new administration will be inaugurated on January 20th," he says in the video. "My focus turns to ensuring a smooth, orderly, seamless transition of power. This moment calls for healing and reconciliation."

In the nearly three-minute video, he says he's outraged by the "violence, lawlessness, and mayhem" that took place in his name Wednesday. He claims that he immediately deployed the National Guard to secure the building, which is not what officials were telling the media. It was allegedly Vice President Mike Pence who handled the coordination.

Trump did not in the video repeat his frequent claims that he actually won the election and had been cheated out of a second term due to voter fraud. Instead he says his "only goal was to ensure the integrity of the vote. In doing so [he] was fighting to defend American democracy." He adds that he still believes that election laws need to be reformed to assure the identity of voters.

The video concludes with Trump calling on unity to work together to end the coronavirus pandemic: "It will require a renewed emphasis on the civic values of patriotism, faith, charity, community, and family."

He concludes, "To the citizens of the country, serving as your president has been the honor of a lifetime and to all of my wonderful supporters, I know you are disappointed, but I want you to know, our incredible journey is only just beginning."

Which Miller said wasn't true, but hey!
The NYT's and Reason have been a lying and gaslighting us for the last four years. They're not going to magically start telling us the truth today.

    1. JesseAz   4 years ago

The best was cnn trying to push a story today of an officer dying yesterday. Forcing a response from the police agency.

      Craig Caplan
      @CraigCaplan
US Capitol Police spox: “Media reports regarding the death of a United States Capitol Police (USCP) officer are not accurate. Although some officers were injured and hospitalized yesterday, no USCP officers have passed away.”

This lie was trending for hours.

      1. JesseAz   4 years ago

CNN still has the story up despite the correction.

            2. Love to be Wrong   4 years ago

All we know right now is Brian Sicknick returned to his office and then collapsed. That's not necessarily a direct result of violence. Of the five claimed deaths, only one so far is proven to be caused by violence, which was a Trump supporter shot point blank by a DC Police officer, who hopefully will be held accountable.

Really, I meant the freedom to live his remaining years in peace and obscurity, if that is what he chooses to do. We did that in a better political culture than we have today, and so I don't think it's going to happen.

  11. Sometimes Bad Is Bad   4 years ago

What was obvious to nearly everyone is obvious to all. So we now won't get any state to actually fix their elections, and democrats will shove more mail in ballots down your throat in a bid to flip more states and elect more Warnocks and Ossoffs. Expect a few more "new" states to pack the Senate, who will then end the filibuster and pack the court solidifying the swing to the left, and in the next 2 year span a slew of legislation that will increase taxes, spending and every left wing fever dream they've had since Obama halted the rise of the oceans.

Good times. Thanks reason for helping bring that about.

    1. MollyGodiva   4 years ago

Or, you know, the Rs can vote by mail also. States that do all-mail voting seem to like it. You fill out the ballot when you want to and mail it in. Easy and quick. With barcoded return envelopes ballots can not be forged.

      1. JesseAz   4 years ago

Rs don't have the gumption to do shit like go to nursing homes and push people who don't know what day it is to vote.

        1. MK Ultra   4 years ago

          Also jobs.

      2. Bluwater   4 years ago

And when you're done doing yours, you can fill out the ballots for every previous tenant who has ever lived at that address, because they got one at the address too. Voter registrations can never be removed from any given address unless the person contacts the election commission, which nobody does. Who needs forged ballots when you have no fucking idea who lives at any given address, so you mail one there just in case? You can always hope that the current resident just tosses the other dozen ballots, cuz honesty.

But of course you know that and you're just playing stupid, right?

      3. TJJ2000   4 years ago

"Rs can vote by mail" -- They did! Thousands of them voted for the [D] party only to show up in person and told they'd already voted...

    2. JFree   4 years ago

I'm assuming the 'new' states you're talking about are Cuba and Venezuela. But why are you putting them in scare quotes? Are you saying they won't actually become states but will merely get Senators?

      1. JesseAz   4 years ago

You can't be this dumb can you? D.C. and P.R. the left isn't quiet about their plans chicken little.

Looking forward to "The libertarian case for the Great Reset".

    5. chemjeff radical individualist   4 years ago

So we now won’t get any state to actually fix their elections

You were never going to get that from the federal government anyway, because elections are run by STATES. If you want to change your state's voting procedures, then get involved in your state's political process and get it done. A last-minute stunt by Cruz or Hawley demanding a "10 day audit" was never going to fix anything.

      1. DenverJ   4 years ago

See, that's the thing. Fraud? Maybe. States breaking their own laws? Documented and serious. Why participate in the political process if the PTB just ignore the law and do whatever the fuck they want, because scary flu.

        1. Red Rocks White Privilege   4 years ago

Remember, chemtard thinks it's okay if corrupt politicians are in power as long as they were duly elected.

          1. chemjeff radical individualist   4 years ago

Not "okay". But better than the alternative for selecting leaders. I'm not a big fan of mob rule frankly.

        2. chemjeff radical individualist   4 years ago

I think there is space for reasonable people to disagree about whether state executive agencies stretching their discretionary authority to accommodate voting during a pandemic represents "breaking" the law or not. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. But that is ultimately an issue that is decided at the state level, and not just with voting - with lawsuits etc.

          1. DenverJ   4 years ago

What's with the scare quotes around "breaking" the law? There is no grey area. "No ballots shall be canvassed before election day." "No ballots recieved after the close of polls on election day shall be counted." Etc., etc., ad naseum. State legislators had all year to write laws concerning the pandemic and the election; some changed the law, some didn't, and some reinforced their previous rules. The govenors, election officials, and judges who ignored the laws didn't "break" the law, they broke the law, as well as violating their various oaths to uphold the constitution, withhold the law, etc.
This is not some unproven law, this is documented illegality by government officials, illegalities that arguably changed the course of the election. '"Break" the law' jesus fucking christ

            1. DenverJ   4 years ago

              *uphold the law

    1. mtrueman   4 years ago

"Trump said what needed to be said,"

He said what a loser says. If Trump was serious about overturning the election results and remaining in power, he'd be calling on his supporters to escalate the violence and lawlessness.

      1. MollyGodiva   4 years ago

At this point there is no "overturning the election results", it would just be a coup. But lets consider ourselves lucky he is not calling for violence and lawlessness.

Yeah, but don't forget he started WW3 in North Korea, WW4 in Iraq, WW5 when he moved the American Embassy to Jerusalem, and if I'm not mistaken, we are still fighting WW6 with Canada. Cuz like Hitler 'n some stuff. I'm verklempt with the inhumanity. Also, he made a bazillion dollars by being president.

And to top it off, I heard yesterday from someone I'm ashamed to say that I know who said Trump gave himself and his entire family and everyone he knows a pardon, and they know it to be true because they saw it on Apple News, which apparently is the corporately sanctioned news that is specifically selected by Apple for their employees. It's always special when your employer is selecting and spoon-feeding you your political propaganda and downloading your opinion into your brain.

I don't recall posting during the BLM shit, but feel free to link if I did. If you're curious about my feelings towards BLM, it's a movement that could have actually been a force for criminal justice reform if it hadn't been distracted by woke bullshit and rioting.

The democrats act and sound more like the CCP daily.

This country has been trending towards authoritarianism for decades now, sadly. What does that have to do with Nardz wanting journalists lynched?

Jesse's kneejerk response nowadays (maybe always?) is to defend his proto-fascist "allies" with lame whataboutisms. It is about the only rhetorical trick he knows.

      1. Diane Reynolds (Paul.)   4 years ago

Well, I don't really care what the left 'buys or doesn't buy' given their laughable track history of believing in THE most cockamamy conspiracy theories about Trump's election in 2016. All that matters is what Trump does. As for Trump supporters, I'm guessing they'll make some sound and fury about betrayal, and then go back to their dirty working-class jobs.

        1. lap83   4 years ago

As for Trump supporters, I’m guessing they’ll make some sound and fury about betrayal, and then go back to their dirty working-class jobs.

I know a few who joined literal militias before the election and I assume that is just going to ramp up. People aren't going to go back to complacency that easily. This election was different.

          1. lap83   4 years ago

and I know you were actually complimenting Trump supporters there. I'm just saying....it was different this time. People know it.

            1. Nardz   4 years ago

Biden came out and called the 100 million Americans who don't trust the election traitors and terrorists.
They've already laid the narrative for concentration camps via public health "threats" and issues such as "racism".
They tell us exactly what to expect from them, which is full on fucking genocidal war.
We are criminals just by being.
What then do we have to lose?

          2. chemjeff radical individualist   4 years ago

            This election was different.

Why? Because you just *know* that Democrats used the COVID pandemic to facilitate loose standards for mail-in voting so that they could stuff the ballot box and defeat Trump via fraud? Is that about the gist of it?

            1. DenverJ   4 years ago

              Yup.

              1. chemjeff radical individualist   4 years ago

                How do you *know* this?

                1. DenverJ   4 years ago

Because it's documented by the States that broke their own laws. It's not conjecture- many States broke their own laws. They broke the fucking law, they fucking admit it, and you are still arguing that I need to prove it?

                  1. chemjeff radical individualist   4 years ago

Why the scare quotes? Because I am not certain that they did, at least in totality. For example, here is the PA Supreme Court decision that permitted absentee ballots to be counted if they were returned 3 days after the deadline (among other things):

                    http://www.pacourts.us/assets/opinions/Supreme/out/j-96-2020mo%20-%20104548450113066639.pdf

Now it is true that Act 77 said "only ballots received by 8pm on Election Day should be counted". But evidently there is another part of Pennsylvania law which says "if there's a 'natural disaster', then the courts can mess around with the deadlines". And the PA court said that the pandemic was a 'natural disaster' and therefore the 8pm election day deadline could be extended. Criticize that all you want, argue against their judgment all you want, but I don't think it is fair to say that it is some deliberate plot to undermine the election on behalf of Biden. After all, at the time this decision was rendered, could Democrats, or the PA Court, or anyone else, have predicted how Republicans or Trump would have responded to this? They could have responded with "well, if the deadline is extended, we had better get our ground game going and get as many as our voters as possible to vote by mail". Instead they decided to DISCOURAGE their voters to vote by mail even though the court itself made it easier to do. They didn't have to do that, you know.

Furthermore, making it easier for more legal votes to be counted is not equivalent to fraudulently stuffing the ballot box with illegal votes.

Finally, if there is going to be judicial review on these types of decisions by federal courts, I would hope that they take a mostly hands-off approach, and only when there is some very egregious violation that federal courts would get involved. When there is reasonable disagreement, I would hope that federal courts would simply let the judgment of the state courts stand.

            2. Zeb   4 years ago

I don't know if they planned it, but they certainly took advantage of the situation.

              1. chemjeff radical individualist   4 years ago

They took advantage of the opportunity for expanded absentee balloting to get more of their voters engaged, that is right. That is not the same as stuffing the ballot box with fraudulent votes. And Republicans COULD HAVE done the exact same thing. There was nothing stopping Republicans from getting their ground game going to encourage their voters to take advantage of this opportunity for expanded absentee voting to get more of their supporters to vote. But instead they decided to DISCOURAGE it and cede the field to Team Blue. It is not the Democrats' fault that the Republicans chose to do that.

              2. chemjeff radical individualist   4 years ago

It is also not MASSIVE FRAUD or a STOLEN ELECTION that Republicans were outhustled by Democrats in the ground game for absentee ballots. It's just sour grapes.

Hold tight! Here comes the OFFICIAL concession speech!

STOP THE PRESSES!!! INSERT HOTTEST NEWS FLASH!!!

My most-senior inside contact at the White House has surreptitiously slipped me an advance copy of the lame-duck POTUS’s concession speech. Without further ado, here it is:

Friends, non-foreigner-type True Americans, and all who Make America Great Again, lend me your ears! I come to bury Biden, not to praise him. Biden and his minions stole the elections, and we must dishonor that! To Make America Great Again, we must invent the most fantastic, fabulous, YUUUGEST BIGNESS EVAH SEEN, in the ways of truly factually fictitious, but Spiritually and Metaphorically True, NEW Republican ballots! Because I have directed My Generals and My Scientists to research the current and past performance, efficacy, and patriotism of one-party states, versus multi-party states. As I have directed them to, My impartial, unbiased, data-driven council of My Generals and My Scientists have determined that yea verily, one-party states work better! Therefore, we must all strive for the Glorious Day, when America becomes a one-party state, under the One True Party, the Republican Party!

But for now, the courts have sided with Biden and his camel-toe, and Antifa, BLM, and all the Marxist terrorists. We must let the courts have it their way, with mayo on the side. I mean, with Mao Tse Tung on the side, but without the Proud Boys standing back and standing by. Thank you, Proud Boys, for having stood by me. Also, thank you, Steve Bannon, Vladimir Putin, Kim Ill Dung, and Pepe the Stolen-Intellectual-Property Frog. Pepe, watch out for Miss Piggy, she and her “pre-nuptial contracts” will clean your clock, just like Melania is set to clean mine soon! But I digest.

So we can’t disrepute what the nasty courts have said, or there might be civil war. Sad! The courts aren’t very American these days! And if you don’t like what I just said? Well, I’m sorry that you feel that way!

So congratulations to Biden for having stolen the elections! This is America, so we must properly honor the decisions of the courts, in a dishonorable way! Biden can come and live with us in the White House, per the wishes of the courts. He can pour our covfefe for us, for Steve Bannon, Pepe the Frog, and I, and Jill can make sandwiches for us. We promise to call him POTUS, and her, First Lady! POTUS of covfefe, and First Lady of sandwiches, that is! Hey Biden! Get yer butt over here! Pepe needs some covfefe!

That setup will get us by for a little while! Meanwhile, we can schedule the NEW run-off elections, this time without any fraudulent so-called “Democratic” votes being allowed, and we can do this RIGHT the next time!

Meanwhile, congratulations to Joe Stalin-Biden, on being elected POTUS of pouring covfefe for Pepe!

  21. Jerryskids   4 years ago

Too little, too late, he doesn't mean it, he wasn't sincere, now he needs to apologize for the other 40 million things he did, this caving in proves he's a coward, this changes nothing, he needs to disavow the Republican Party altogether, he needs to admit he's Putin's puppet, we knew all along he was all bluster, nothing is acceptable but that he and all his works be destroyed, we need to pass a Constitutional amendment that nobody like him ever be elected again.

  22. Ken Shultz   4 years ago

    It isn't about Trump anymore.

The progressives and their enablers want to imagine that this will all go way with Trump.

Most of that shit that happened yesterday wouldn't have happened if the Republicans had won the elections in Georgia. The issue isn't Trump anymore. The issue is the awfulness of Biden and the Democrats' policies--and that isn't going away anytime soon.

For goodness' sake, the Democrats want to impeach him on the way out the door. That doesn't auger well for showing some self-restraint and not packing the Supreme Court.

The thought that this will go away when Trump does is wishful thinking on the part of progressive Democrats and their enablers. These Americans aren't upset because Trump is leaving. They're upset because the Democrats are staying. If you contributed to this horrible situation in some way, then shame on you.

The agenda on Biden's website is unacceptable.
