USC Suspended a Communications Professor for Saying a Chinese Word That Sounds Like a Racial Slur
Greg Patton was describing the Chinese filler word "nega," which earned him a temporary suspension.

Greg Patton is a professor of clinical business communication at the University of Southern California. During a recent virtual classroom session, he was discussing public speaking patterns and the filler words that people use to space out their ideas: um, er, etc. Patton mentioned that the Chinese often use a word that is pronounced like nega.
"In China the common word is 'that, that that that,' so in China it might be 'nega, nega, nega, nega,'" Patton explained to his class. "So there's different words you'll hear in different cultures, but they're vocal disfluencies."
But because the Chinese word nega sounds like nigger, some students were offended and reported the matter to the administration. Patton is now suspended, according to Campus Reform:
On Tuesday evening, the USC Marshall School of Business provided Campus Reform with a statement, confirming that Patton is no longer teaching his course.
"Recently, a USC faculty member during class used a Chinese word that sounds similar to a racial slur in English. We acknowledge the historical, cultural and harmful impact of racist language," the statement read.
Patton "agreed to take a short term pause while we are reviewing to better understand the situation and to take any appropriate next steps."
Another instructor is temporarily teaching the class.
USC is now "offering supportive measures to any student, faculty, or staff member who requests assistance." The school is "committed to building a culture of respect and dignity where all members of our community can feel safe, supported, and can thrive."
This is ridiculous. It seems clear that Patton did not mean to harm anyone, and that the point he was making was perfectly valid. The resemblance between these two words is purely coincidental, and adults should be perfectly capable of hearing the Chinese version without fainting in front of their computer screens. Anyone who is this prepared to be bothered all the time needs to turn down their outrage dial.
"I'll say this ten thousand times, but if anyone thinks they're helping the cause of racial equality by engaging in absurd, over-the-top speech policing of innocent people, then they're sadly mistaken," wrote The Dispatch's David French.
There is nothing for the university to investigate: Patton should be restored to his teaching position immediately. If anything, the offended students should apologize to him for causing the inconvenience.

Banning a professor for explain a common usage word in a different culture is almost as damaging to education as going to USC
Sounds like Olivia Jade and Isabella Loughlin got out of that school just in time.
Similar to indoctrinated children denouncing their parents in Pol Pot's Cambodia.
And the poor guy will from now on be known as The Nega Guy.
USC? Meh. I'm willing to go so far as to say that it's almost as damaging to education as going to HARVARD.
The only reasonable outcome would be expelling the idiots who complained.
THIS. That's how you begin the purge.
Or at least tell them to stop being idiots and wasting everyone's time. That the administration didn't dismiss the complaint out of hand is probably the biggest problem here.
"Recently, a USC faculty member during class used a Chinese word that sounds similar to a racial slur in English. We acknowledge the historical, cultural and ~harmful impact of racist language~ contextual points, and did nothing"
FTFY
I don't see why it is offensive. By using this logic, USC and the black student body should fire all the profs that teaches Spanish. After all, how do you say "black" in Spanish?

After many years of studying Chinese in college and beyond and studying abroad in Beijing, I can confirm that the proper phonetics (in pinyin) of the words in question is actually Nage, not Nega. Na means that, ge is a measure word like "one". For example "na ge ren" means that person. This is like "um" in the Chinese language. USC is a joke. But we knew this already ever since they let those fake rich sailors in. Sorry, rich fake sailors.
While you're right, "that one" is often pronounced nega as somewhat of a contraction of na ee ge. Not sure if it's a dialect/regional thing. I'm Taiwanese.
Also, please don't learn phonetic Chinese in Beijing. Fewer Chinese pirates, please.
My wife is from China. She's the only one in her family who does NOT live in China. I've been to China numerous times, and my wife video chats every day with her family and friends in China, as well as her Chinese friends here in America. We also are constantly doing things with the Chinese community here in NYC. I hear actual Chinese every day.
I have literally never heard anyone pronounce it the phonetic way. Although you are correct that it phonetically is "nah guh"..nobody really actually says it that way. Everyone pronounces it "nay guh" in real life. The professor is right that people will say it one after another really fast so it does sound like "nega nega nega." There have actually been Chinese people here in nyc beat up before for this.
Also, they use "Zhe ge" which is more or less of the same thing (this vs. that). That one said fast sounds more like "jigga jigga jigga"
Heck, they had to supply "support", meaning psychodoctors, to students who heard the speech, and probably a few who just heard rumors of the speech. If this is indicative of the current college age generation this nation is screwed.

"agreed to take a short term pause while we are reviewing to better understand the situation and to take any appropriate next steps."
Said next steps being expulsion of those students incapable of rational thought.
They should offer the "offended" students a one way trip to China.
The situation is that universities have lost their rational moorings and descended into mob rule, and done it deliberately. Those students are not offended, they just get off on the unlimited power the administrators have given them.
I dunno.
Those all would be appropriate next steps.
But I'm also thinking.... firing every member of the administration who approved this "short pause removal".
Firing the idiots who hired those guys.
Firing the idiots in HR who approved the suspension.
Firing the President of the University for hiring anyone who had anything to do with this idiocy.
And then insisting that everyone at USC start using "nega" in all conversations...repeatedly....every single day ... in every single class....forever.
Firing is too good for them. Tar and feather the seditionists.
I don't know, he did a lot of damage in North Africa.
He made the other poor bastards die for their country.
Nice!
Does USC also not teach Spanish, Italian, Porteguese and Latin? I mean has anyone told this snowflakes what the Spanish, Italian, Porteguese and Latin words for the color black is?
don't keep it a secret SM76 or maybe they just skip over that word which shall be erased from history
But, one of my favorite beers is Negro Modello!
Is that available in a 40 oz size?
(Go ahead, click the flag, I know you want to.)
What I want to do is buy you a beer!
I get paid more than $120 to $130 per hour for working online.PPa I heard about this job 3 months ago and after joining this i have earned easily $15k from this without having online working skills.
This is what I do....... Cashapp1
It's Negra Modelo
No, it's "Modelo Negra", and that's only now. It used to be the other way.
I was quite sad when I went to the bar at my local Mexican joint and saw the dark Modelo had been changed to Modelo Negra. I obstinately call it by its old name.
Proper grammar is the biggest casualty of the latest culture war.
It’s non binary beer. Super woke.
I believe it's modelx negrx now
OK, everyone go home... We have a winner!
This will now be the only way I order said beer from now on.
How the hell is "Negro" offensive? That is so weird.
I don't think that changed. "Negra" modifies "cerveza". It's always been called that and it is grammatically correct. "Cerveza Negra Modelo".
So, a while back I saw a landscaping truck, presumably an immigrant-owned business, "Negros Tree Service" (not that it would've made much of a difference but, no apostrophe). I can only assume that isn't the name they registered with at the BBB.
I can't fathom how that doesn't happen every. single. day in CA.
The main difference would be that "nega" sounds more like "nigga" phonetically than "negro" (when pronounced with a Spanish accent) sounds like either "nigga" or the (hah) 'proper' form of the word. The kids are obviously still vastly oversensitive snowflakes, and should have shaken it off once they realized they had misheard, but comparing the Spanish isn't very similar.
You seem to think that the confusion and offense can only take place based on phonetic grounds. I'm pretty sure you're wrong and I'm pretty sure that the same people who mistakenly take offense to "nega" would equally take offense to "Negros Jungle Adventures" or "Negros Porch and Yard Service", whether the "offense" was intended or not.
Negro removal services is already trademarked by the police.
True.
Well, that's all true, of course.
Well, that would require them to get their heads out of their asses, which such cranial placement is now what college is designed to teach them how to do.
Critical thought? Not on my campus!
The sad thing is that many degree programs aren't like this. You would find this kind of thinking, for say in a college of agriculture pretty rare. But it is rampant in other degree programs.
Little late for my reply, sm76, but if you see my post, please contemplate the vast idiocy of the following drama, currently unfolding in a high-level university *computer science* department: https://www.thecollegefix.com/ucla-students-demand-removal-of-computer-science-department-chair-who-chided-pc-police/
Gaze and despair. The form of the destructor has been chosen, and it's a whiny manbunned soy-boy.
Yeah, the kids are morons, but this guy must know that. Why go there? It’s hard enough to walk on eggshells, but a college prof should be able to manage not to provoke the woke idiots with words that sound like other words in a different culture.
On the other hand I’m sure that understanding what nega means was crucial to the days lesson plan. Might come in handy when these kids wind up as baristas in Chinatown.
Italians were smart enough to drop the 'G'.
Those are the languages of white supremacist colonizers. Real Latinx don’t speak them. If it came up, the correct term would be “negrx.”
Regardless of any of that, USC definitely teaches Marxism and identity politics.
I was listening to another interview with Douglas Murray the other day. He said he was talking to a 96 year old friend who said to him in despair, "No one knows anything any more..."
It's worse than that.
Some of them do KNOW but still ignore facts and truth.
Look at how we're handling the pandemic. We're literally ignoring established science about what we know about immunology and viruses.
The masks are a seemingly harnless request but in fact are symbolic a wider 'symptomatic' problem of embracing pseudo-science in order to soothe the masses. Despite the mass body of evidence that show masks are largely useless.
"Despite the mass body of evidence that show masks are largely useless."
But, but, but if it appears to saves just one life. C'mon, man. Don't be so selfish.
This paragraph is an extremely cautious way of tiptoeing around simply saying that this whole situation was fucking retarded, and anyone who not only reported, but pursued it as a valid thing should be hounded out of the university and made to hang their heads in shame.
These people are utterly batshit insane and demand to be taken seriously by everyone upon pain of expulsion from society.
Exactly right.
Everyone is scared these day. No one wants the mob at their door, calling for their head.
And so we tiptoe round every single precious tulip for fear we'll offend. The Stephen Fry quote would also be very appropriate:
"It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so fucking what."
That too would have been effective.
Does this ever get turned around? In 10 years will college kids be laughing at the perpetually triggered morons of 2020?
Hope so.
Like Disco!
I’ve heard rumblings that the younger generation looks at the millennials like they’re a bunch of tools.
They have a professor of "clinical business communication"? Is that for doctors? Can they teach them penmanship while they're at it?
I can see value in this class, when I started in my professional life (engineer) I worked for a small company that had 60-70% of business outside of the US. You can't talk to the Germans the same way you talk to the ittalians or seeds, and deffinatly need to know the cultural differences in communication between the Koreans, japaneese, and Chinese.
There's just no talking to seeds!
Seeds? And just for whom is that a slur?
I'm thinking....
HAY seeds! I am SO offended!
No, the ha seeds in Brooklyn. Rock the Casbah.
It's a new universal slur that is ment to denegrate everyone but me.
I am going to appropriate that.
I would count it as one of my greatest life achievements if the Commenters at reason started using "seed" as a pejorative now
I prefer, "you're a towel."
Bravo!
I like saying nigger.
I like saying stormfag.
Fill your boots.
Die in yours.
If you're referring to misek, wouldn't it be more appropriate to use the term 'sturmfag'?
Stormfag is a perjorative for neo-nazis (referring to nazi websites like stormfront)
Does that mean you're just a regular fag, a leftnutfag, what?
I get paid more than $120 to $130 per hour for working online.YTg I heard about this job 3 months ago and after joining this i have earned easily $15k from this without having online working skills.
This is what I do....... Cashapp1
Yeah, a stupid one.
typing it is lazy.
I like saying "seeds".
Me too. Member when pot used to have seeds? They were useless. Seeds are useless.
Let’s do this.
I like saying "Misek eats dicks".
USC seems pretty niggardly with the First Amendment.
USC seems pretty niggardly with the First Amendment.
I hate to niggle, but you posted twice.
He should be negalisted for that.
Doesn't negate his point.
I did and I Fagged, er, Flagged myself for it.
"I hate to niggle, but you posted twice"
Well, when posting is free there's no cause to be niggardly about it.
Nega, please.
Shoot me Nega! Shoot me Nega!
"Shoot me Nega! Shoot me Nega!"
F'n prophetic. Priceless. Careful what you ask for.
Nice. This is a fun thread.
Yeah... Until the seeds show up and start shitting all over it.
"In China the common word is 'that, that that that,' so in China it might be 'n-word, n-word, n-word, n-word,'" Patton explained to his class in subsequent semesters.”
Correction: "Chinese word that sounds similar to n-word, Chinese word that sounds similar to n-word Chinese word that sounds similar to n-word Chinese word that sounds similar to n-word"
"A noise that someone might find offensive, a noise that someone might find offensive, a noise that someone might find offensive, a noise that someone might find offensive."
Wouldn't want to say "The N Word" because then the person listening heard it in their mind and that's just as bad as hearing it out loud, so you have to be more circumspect than that.
So I suppose the linked Dave Chappelle sketch would trigger the little snowflakes.
http://www.cc.com/video-clips/mlg0y7/chappelle-s-show-the-niggar-family---uncensored
Now *that* was funny.
No your sock post was not.
So, the first time one of these students is conversing with a Chinese counterpart who peppers her speech with "nega, nega, nega" I assume the duly offended will demand her employer cut off business relations with obvious slavers?
I'm sure the CCP will send the offender off with the Uyghurs.
LeBron needs more shoes.
Uyghurs...are those the white kids in the suburbs who listen to rap and wear saggy jeans?
Uuygers. With 2 u’s. Double U.
It's OK when the Chinese say it. It's "their" word. It would probably be OK if the student was black cause it kinda sounds like "their" word. Or maybe not. But white people can't use either word.
I think you've found a chink in their armor.
You must know the British WWII song, "Mr. Wu is an air raid warden now."
First they'll run out of the room crying looking for a safe space.
Niger and Nigeria, you are now on double secret probation!
I would also point out that the reaction of those who complained is extremely ethnocentric.
Once again proving that leftist tend to be narrow minded bigots.
And that Germans love David Hasselhoff.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lT2FJLhVRUg
This!
Like their insistence on latinx rather than how it’s fucking spelled.
How dare you speak your language!
Or Native American when most prefer American Indian. I've actually seen white progressives lecture one of the girls I grew up with on Facebook, a registered member of the Coeur d'Alene tribe, that by referring to herself as an indian she was being racist and ignorant and that Native American is the preferred terminology.
“C’mon, man!”
Let’s not make this serious. They’re really all just a buncha seeds anyhow.
Ya that's what I was gonna say. I think the professor ought to get the Chinese student association or whatever they have to call those idiots racist.
it's not University Second Choice because you should go there.
But the University of Spoiled Children is so appropriate.
"adults should be perfectly capable..."
Now that's just all messed up from the get go.
I went to a music and arts boarding school in high school, my roommate was from China and I would hear him say nega all the time. Chinese people are very aware of the similarity between the words.
This kid was also racist, like actually racist not the modern definition where everything is racist, and would use the slur frequently too.
The Chinese nationals I’ve known are the most unapologetically racist/sexist/elitist people I’ve ever known, especially towards black people and Japanese people.
Well, that Nanking thing.
The Chinese culture actually taught for centuries that foreigners were subhuman or demons. But the Japanese during WWII were also especially racist. We live to talk about how racist US propaganda was against the Japanese but people rarely talk about Japanese racism. Much like how they love to point out the German crimes against humanity, and ignore the Japanese crimes. Not excusing either behavior BTW, before ChemJeff or DoL claim that I am.
When did they stop teaching that in China?
I don't know that they have.
Even to this day, Japan has one of the most closed societies in the world - nearly impossible to immigrate there, or especially gain citizenship. They have an immigration policy that makes Trump look like an open borders advocate.
But they are on the State Department "approved list" (meaning they are lackeys) so we don't hear about that.
If Russia or China had the same policies, it would be all over the MSM deriding the racist xenophobia of those counties. The only way to reverse that would be to become as obsequiously subserviant to our corporate machine as other "allies".
And yet we have all these people who believe that western/US culture is the most racist thing ever and somehow uniquely horrible. Really profound ignorance. The US defeinitely has a pretty racist history. But so does every other civilization ever and many have been and still are much worse.
It's especially funny when people try to paint Chinese or Japanese as victims of cultural appropriation. Those are two historic empires built through conquest and colonialism far more brutal than almost anything done by western powers.
Heck, to this day Japan largely fails to acknowledge Nanking, or the shit they were doing to the Koreans. They also applied that to the Chinese after they retreated because only inferior men would flee before inferior numbers (nevermind that Chinese had shity weapons and basically no ammo). The German ambassador to China, a literal hardcore fucking Nazi, was horrified by the Japanese dehumanization of Chinese civilians.
DoL?
Is that seed still around?
Did you have a twice notarized form recognizing him as Chinese? Or did he just say he’s Chinese?
The Chinese nationals I’ve known are the most unapologetically racist/sexist/elitist people I’ve ever known, especially towards black people and Japanese people.
Don't know many Koreans, do you? They pretty much believe they are literally the master race.
What's the Chinese word for snowflake?
Asshore?
Baizuo
It literally means white left. It's a derogatory term for the US progressives
I love it.
Such foul language is highly discriminatory to denizens of the Negaverse. However, those evil motherfuckers deserve it.
IKR? I mean, saying it that many times? Sounds like this dude went all Michael Richards on his class, but was trying to be clever about it.
All the seeds involved, and even those not involved need to be cancelled. Hard. And everyone in a 50 mile radius, just to be safe.
Anyone who is this prepared to be bothered all the time needs to turn down their outrage dial.
Anyone who is this prepared to be bothered all the time needs to move to the top of a mountain and become a hermit, like the good old days.
In other news...
Just to avoid even the possibility of a mispronunciation ...or, more likely, a mis-hearing of any given pronunciation...USC announced today that it was banning any and every word that contained the letters "n" and "g". This culturally-sensitive correction has been named "CLARIFYING".
Unfortunately 'clarifying' itself contains an "n-g" combo and has itself been clarified to become "CLARIFYN".
Unwoke faculty in the English (sorry....Enlish) department objected, saying that the Administration was butchering (sorry...butchern) the language (sorry....lanluale (this uses the common 'double-l' substitute rule). But the Administration responded by saying (sorry...sayin) "Ha Ha Ha where we're goililg, we don't need no steeeenkin Enlish!"
Ask your doctor if CLARIFYN is right for you...
Academic freedom and free expression for faculty? I guess that only applies selectively.
Freedom of expression for those who agree with us!
/prog
This professor is now ruined. There will always be a segment of the population who will always believe he is a racist that used the n-word.
We should excise that portion of our population.
The worse part is that every time this sort of lunacy pops up the administration doesn't tell the complaining students "Shut up and get back to class. You're being ridiculous."
Instead, they place the accused on suspension (paid or otherwise) and perform "an investigation," followed by promises of retraining, sensitivity classes, hiring more minority staff, creating minority colleges, etc. They grovel before outraged 19 year olds who think the world began the day they were born and that they are the vanguard of a new civilization that will teach inferiors (anyone older) the proper way of living.
Patton "agreed to take a short term pause while we are reviewing to better understand the situation and to take any appropriate next steps."
Which would be the left hand in a fist, thrust up until the inside of the bicep at the elbow is captured by the right hand.
I remember the first time I was engaged in a translated conversation between our Chinese speaking suppliers and my team of English speaking engineers and the chinese speakers were using the auditory pause "nega". It made me sit up for a moment until I realized (since I have an IQ above 90) that they were just saying "um" in Chinese. It would have been nice, back in day, if I had been taught it before I heard it. Cause, knowing things makes you better. Too bad for the students that they will graduate without any real world lingual experience. Because if they have dealings with anyone that is native Chinese speaking they will hear this word 100s of times a day.
Nowadays you're taught that you should be hurt and offended by such things. Maybe if you were you could've run out of the room crying and looking for a safe space.
Learning is apparently violence now
I earn 150$ in one week by working online.this job is very benificial easy and helpful for those who want a money in no time and for jobless persons, to get more info about this job check this website HERE? <a HERE? Read More
Nigger is a positively delightful word to say if you’re black.
Don’t all my niggahs agree?
What did you say? I’m a racist if I’m not black.
What a positively racist thing to say.
Haha.
Go lick another dick, Misek. You unfunny piece of shit.
No thanks, more for you.
"Nigger is a positively delightful word to say if you’re black."
Why would anyone be interested in a comment from a Nazi who is thrilled with killing Jews and then lying about it?
Fuck off, Nazi scum.
What could a self proclaimed bigot like yourself who doesn’t value truth possibly have to say that anyone needs to hear?
I lived in China for several years and I speak a bit of Mandarin. I have used the phrase "na ge" more times than I can possibly count. I guess I need to be sent to PC Jail forthwith.
This is always the best part. "USC is now "offering supportive measures to any student, faculty, or staff member who requests assistance." The school is "committed to building a culture of respect and dignity where all members of our community can feel safe, supported, and can thrive."" Just how old are these students or how sheltered have they been? Who's been raising these children to be these spineless jellyfish?
IOWs: Grow up! Couldn't agree more.
My (CA) company has no employees; the products are supplied by contractors, none of which are in CA.
I rely on the contractors to weed out such scum, and it is not a difficult process: employ whiners of that caliber? Your quote is likely to be rejected.
HERE► Brilliant article. I had wondered how future generations would view the mind boggling hysteria that is currently gripping the whole world, especially Europe and the USA. We look back at past centurhysteria can be – like a stampede. Thought the writer was a historian, his analysis is so sharpies and wonder how they could have been so stupid. I guess it shows how powerful mass . He has seen through the Emperor’s new clothes!Go to link.
So no one can say "negative" at USC now?
Beautiful.
...he was discussing public speaking patterns and the filler words that people use to space out their ideas...
"He, um, like, totally made me, like, feel all unsafe and, like, whatever."
Well done.
Years ago in Geography class, Klaus, a friend of mine whose father worked for the I Been Moved company pronounced the country name Niger with a hard g. The scene that erupted as the barbarians in class stood up ready to riot while everybody else was laughing hysterically was classic. It took a a minute for the teacher to *splain to the barbarians something about Deutsche. Nowadays of course, the barbarians would have an actual riot, beat up the foreign student and the teacher, and none would laugh.
Beat up?
They've moved up to murder now.
Now do Uranus!
USC is so niggardly anyway in the salaries for professors...the guy should resign and go elsewhere.
But I'm just being niggling...
N I G G
We're losing for two letters.
Horshack: I'll solve it!
""In China the common word is 'that, that that that,' so in China it might be 'nega, nega, nega, nega,'" Patton explained to his class. "
I suspect Patton is wrong. I've studied Chinese on NHK (Japan's version of BBC) educational broadcasting, spent a year studying it at Taiwan's Normal University, and lived on and off in various parts of mainland China and Hong Kong. I'm not familiar with 'nega.' It may be a regionalism, it may be that Patton is full of shit, and should stick to clinical business communicating.
Or, more likely, YOU are full of shit; you quite often are.
No, in this case it's the professor. He shouldn't be lecturing on things which, at best, he only vaguely understands.
It's actually "nèige". A quick google search shows it seems to be a well known issue.
https://resources.allsetlearning.com/chinese/grammar/The_filler_word_%22neige%22
I figured as much some time after commenting. They use the word zheige meaning 'this' in much the same way. It's evident the professor knows very little Chinese, giving us a good example of how a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
I lived in Beijing for several years and I can 100% confirm this is real. It is an extremely common word. However, the northern Chinese dialect is the one that pronounces it "Nay-ge." Other dialects pronounce it more like "nah-ge," which might be why you didn't encounter it studying Taiwanese Chinese.
"I lived in Beijing for several years and I can 100% confirm this is real."
I understand, but we have no way of knowing how the professor pronounced the word, given that no Chinese would say it as it was transcribed.
" you didn’t encounter it studying Taiwanese Chinese."
I didn't study Taiwanese, but Mandarin in Taiwan. The faculty of the university were an amazing bunch. They were overwhelmingly refugees from the mainland, old, and spoke with impeccable Beijing accents.
"I didn’t study Taiwanese, but Mandarin in Taiwan"
Which is Taiwanese Chinese. Like he said.
"Which is Taiwanese Chinese."
Incorrect. Mandarin is standard Chinese, essentially the Beijing dialect. In Taiwan, the locals speak something they call Minnan Yu, among other terms. It's similar to if not the same as the dialect spoken in Fujian, which is a mainland province opposite Taiwan. I only know a phrase or two of the Minnan dialect.
"spoke with impeccable Beijing accents."
And now this gweilo an expert on the accents of a language he doesn't know.
I'm also an expert on languages I do know if that makes you feel any better.
If the sound of a word you don't like bothers you that much, you should seek help. Even if he was saying "nigger" in class, unless he is applying it to a person or group of people, it's ridiculous to be offended.
Making certain words taboo only gives them more power. You can completely take that power from racist assholes by just not giving a fuck. I get that that is difficult for some people, but it should be the aim. Don't treat racist idiots like they have any power, because for the most part they don't. Ignore them of mock them like the idiots they are.
"Making certain words taboo only gives them more power. You can completely take that power from racist assholes by just not giving a fuck. "
Taboo means giving a fuck. It's a form of social control where people are compelled to police their own speech.
Using another culture's language is obviously cultural appropriations as well. USC needs to up their game and make sure he learns he can't do that either.
Unless you are using the English language, in which case you are a victim of colonialism.
Like the so called 'American Indians.'
"Using another culture’s language is obviously cultural appropriations as well."
That is nonsense. But using another language poorly in a university lecture is something every professor should avoid.
I quit working at shoprite to work online and with a little effort I easily bring in around $45 to 85 per/h. Without a doubt, this is the easiest and most financially rewarding job I’ve ever had.ESd I actually started 6 months ago and this has totally changed my life........CHECK MY SITE.
God help these poor children when they have to enter the adult world and try to earn a living.
I don’t think you understand what they’re doing.
They’re terraforming, changing the environment we all live in, into what suits them and their zealotry.
They don’t give a flying fuck about reality, truth that the greatest generation calls common sense. Some businesses have already kowtowed.
They will live as fascist bigots, declaring themselves “woke” and demonizing ANY concept or speech that exposes them. They’re out of control and they can’t stop without losing it all.
Haha.
I just value and share truth. That is all the opposition required to stop them and have civilization win.
I'm afraid you're correct. The whole point is they plan to get into positions and power and change 'reality' in their image.
Corporations are useful idiots.
The left is approaching the level of the certifiably insane.
Soon both sides will be certified insane.
I recall a city employee was forced to apologize and resign for using the word "niggardly" during a budget discussion. Even though the word has nothing whatsoever to do with the racial slur.
I got thrown off an email list for talking about "faggots", which are small bundles of wood.
In England I hear there are groups of homosexuals who hang out at corners sucking on faggots. Of course, in England a "faggot" is a cigarette.

To the social justice movement, it's not your intent that matters, but the potential offense to the minority. It's a stupid, self-destructive way of running a society, but it has its own internal logic.
See, they are not interested in what a council person has to say because those words represent the group.
However, if there is no loyalty test, it would seem that there is no document to uphold other than representation, maybe the mayor? If there were pledge to uphold the Constitution, then the Amendments would be upheld to, such as defense of freedom of speech.
I am going to start a new society for academics dedicated to the proposition that Woke idiots should be tarred and feathered.
I will call it the "Nega Society". Everyone will be required to chant "nega nega nega nega" at every meeting to start the meeting.
Nega nega
Twiddling of thumbs
I don’t see why this is offensive. By using this logic, the black students that complained should ask USC to fire all the profs teaching Spanish. After all, how do you say “black” in Spanish?
Which gender, if you'll pardon the offensive expression?
I'm sure saying "Hēi guǐ" is ok.
It's also what the Biden/Harris ticket is running on. Their supporters believe that merely hearing such a phrase, even if spoken unintentionally and in a different context, amounts to violence and oppression against blacks. In the new progressive world view, intentions or guilt don't matter, the only thing that matters is the psychological effect on any member of a minority that hears the speech, even taken out of context.
And it's what you enable, Robby, even if you find this particular manifestation of it "ridiculous".
Robby is NOT enabling it. Have you even read his posts? Jeepers Cripes on a Stick, don't shoot the messenger.
He may be one of them.
Yup, I have. He is not a full blown lefty, but he is enabling them even if unintentionally.
The Chinese word, "that"(那个), is pronounced as "Na Ge". It doesn't sound like "nii ga" or "ni ge" if you ask me.
If you speak Chinese, things will sound different to you that sound the same to English speaker.
I doubt our professor is a Chinese speaker. The 'nega' is a dead giveaway.
I was referring to Amaterasu's perceptions, not the professor's.
What makes you think a trained professor can't learn Chinese?
Crowds of children ran out to greet truckloads of G.I.s in Korea shouting "me gook, me gook!" Which means "American." And didn't someone in 'murrica get shouted to resign recently for describing a budget or something as "niggardly?" Bernie could distribute free dictionaries to good effect.

Very good move by the students. If the school is prepared to react on the bs and throw some $$ or benefits their way, only a fool wouldn't do it.
OK, so Chinese speakers use an expression that sounds like, but is not, an English language racist slur. Seems to me that if business students might someday interact with Chinese speakers, that fact would be important. They should be thanking their professor, not trying to get him fired.
It should be notable that there is no accountable Ministry of PC that will get back to us on whether the justice in this case justifies the end with the means. Unless someone sues or volunteers mea culpa.
The administration should be suspended for it's direct insult to the Chinese language.
I am very impressed to find a discussion forum where, if it is appropriate to use the word 'nigger' in a discussion, they have no problem with it being used, instead of having to use some weird euphemism...
We much using prefer offensive euphemisms to weird ones.
Just wait until these idiots find out that the Japanese word to escape is nigeru (逃げる)...
The thought police eating there own as they walk off the cliff continues..
Could be shock technique to get message across with minimum of casualties and just a little collateral damage to sail the point home that they still have options other than the Unibomb.
IOW, "Crude but effective."
Roger Stone used the word negro and the media was all over him using a racial slur. I was totally baffled and wondered when did this word become a slur? Someone said "In the 70s."
How can anyone stop using offensive language if it keeps changing every few years?
"How can anyone stop using offensive language if it keeps changing every few years?"
Adapt or die. The cruelest law of a decidedly leftist universe.
The Chinese could be some pretty sweet rap stars.
That said; the only word that I really can't permit is "Belgium"

Ho ho, hee hee. This isn't about African slaves nor ex-Brit imperialist slave farmers but rather about insinuating that Chinese people have nothing intelligible to say!

The Free Speech Zone over there looks a bit lonely, maybe everybody should get a bullhorn and see if anybody there can warm it up?
Go away.
