Brickbat: No Good Deed …

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo says that healthcare workers who volunteered to come to the state to help fight the coronavirus pandemic will have to pay taxes on any income they earned while in the state, even on income paid in their home state. "We're not in a position to provide any subsidies right now because we have a $13 billion deficit," Cuomo said. The issue came up in regard to Samaritan's Purse, a Christian organization that set up a field hospital in New York City. "What we're even more concerned about than the money is the bureaucracy, and the paperwork," said Ken Isaacs, a vice president of Samaritan's Purse. "I think that once that's unleashed…once you start filing that, you have to do that for like a whole year or something."

When asked for further comment, Gov Cuomo could not be reached. He was busy taking the pennies from the eyes of
the dead.
Welcome to liberal land. And NY will pursue you long after you move away.
Yep, you file the one time that you're required to, and the next year, when you have been far away and have 0 tax liability, they just assume that you do, since you filed last year. Sometimes they will make up an 'estimate' for how much you owe and send you a bill. I'm sure some people pay it rather than trying to fight it.
What a douchebag. Anyone volunteering in New York is there to help their fellow man, not to pay your fucking bills or line their own pockets. Fuck off, Cuomo!
Good luck getting volunteers next time, genius.
Won't be his problem; he'll be president.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
Remember, the government owns 100% of the results of your productive efforts. If it lets you keep some, it's called a "subsidy."
Oh, c'mon - it's not Cuomo's fault that the law requires the tax. His hands are tied on this, just because there's a pandemic going on doesn't mean that he has any authority to just change the law as he sees fit. I'm sure it causes him a great deal of personal anguish to have to do this, but there's really nothing he can do, the law is the law and Cuomo must obey the law just the same as any other humble public servant.
Nice
He seems somewhat selective about causing himself personal anguish. If the anguish comes from his desire to exercise power, he will endure it; if the anguish comes from increasing government revenue, he will endure it; If the anguish comes from letting people live their own lives, the pain is to great to endure.
Just one more in a long list of reasons I never, ever, took a contract or assignment in New York City.
More than one company where I worked or contracted eve had separate corporations just for the New York business, because of the insane rules and regulations.
Eve, of course, never worked there either.
It was her sister even.
Adam had threesomes?!?
Reminds me of an OT experience I had with my brother. Real angry asshole, born again in the worst way, hated everybody. Stopped by to visit once and he had a book laying on the couch, basically an "FAQ for non-Christians".
Q: How did Noah get so many dinosaurs, elephants, etc on the Ark?
A: Cryogenically frozen sperm and eggs.
Q: If incest is a sin, how did Cain have children with Eve?
A: We had pure genes back then because we hadn't overpopulated the earth yet.
That second answer is based on the Book of Jubilees, which is considered canon in Ethiopia, but nowhere else AFAIK
I'd be more interested in how Noah got millions of species of insects onto the Ark, and millions more species of arachnids, worms, and microscopic animals. It's not just the size of the Ark that would have been needed; not even Methusaleh lived long enough to collect all of these.
Also, the Bible doesn't say anything about seed repositories and aquariums on the Ark. If land animals were all Noah collected, the post-Deluge world would have been nearly void of plants and fish. Most ocean fish will die if the salinity is reduced a little. Most fresh-water fish will die from a little salt in the water. What would happen when God mixed those waters? Then, all the land was covered with brackish water, which would have left salt in the soil. Few plants will grow in salty soil, even if seeds survived being submerged for a long time.
> separate corporations just for the New York business, because of the insane rules and regulations.
That and the unions and the corruption.
I heard Chicago that was founded by a bunch of New Yorkers who all decided "Well the overcrowding and rudeness are fine but it's just not cold enough in winter."
NY state and city income tax instructions:
1. Have you ever been in or near the city and state of NY?
2. How much money did you earn last year?
3. Send it to us.
My stepmother had lived and been married in NY but divorced and moved out. Her Ex died some years later and left a tax bill. They came after her for the unpaid taxes, she would send them a letter explaining in detail why she did not owe the tax and they would just send another threatening letter. One morning she just so happen to see a legal advocate on a morning show explaining what to do, do not send long letters explaining the issue, just send back two sentences, “ I do not owe this money. I do not intend to pay it “ they will either drop the issue or come after you in court. She never heard from them again.
You have to use small words and short sentences when dealing with bureaucracy.
He's just self-quarantining your money. What's the problem?
My company closed its Western sales office in Torrance, CA when the state tried to tax all the sales made by the western sales rep while traveling in Nev, Ore, Wa, Id, Az, etc. They still get the rep's income tax but zero corp. income tax. Suck it, Newsom.
Basically what he is saying is because I can’t get the federal government to take other people’s money and give it to me I am going to take it from people who volunteered to help us when we needed.
So, who monitors all the conventions and other business meetings that take place in New York with people flying in from all over? After all, they're "working" in New York.
What a load of crap.
