Brickbat: Now, Who Was Misbehaving?

In Florida, officials at Love Grove Elementary School had Martina Falk's 6-year-old daughter Nadia involuntarily committed to a mental institution for two days for an evaluation after the girl allegedly threw a tantrum at school and threw chairs. Body camera footage shows the two deputies called to transport the child were skeptical about the assignment and that the girl was well behaved and chatty with them, with one of the deputies even calling her "very pleasant" and questioning whether school employees were provoking the child. That didn't stop them from taking her to the mental health facility.

'How can you say what my best interest is'
What are you trying to say, I'm crazy'
When I went to your schools, I went to your churches
I went to your institutional learning facilities'
So how can you say I'm crazy"
Your crazy. See, it's very easy to say it.
"All I wanted was a Pepsi! Just one Pepsi!"
Bloomberg says you are an evil person for that thought.
I only wanted a can! Not a Big Gulp!
Serves you right for not drinking Dr Pepper
"I'm a pepper, you're a pepper, he's a pepper, she's a pepper, wouldn't you like to be a pepper to - be a pepper - driiiink Dr Pepper."
I would die first. Seriously. If the only thing left to drink was Dr Pepper I'd shoot myself. Shit is disgusting. Only thing worse is Moxie (yes as a Mainer that's sacrilege, but I don't care).
Gross.
I've actually got some personal experience in this. My child has some serious behavioral issues. While she's escalated and having an episode she is completely out of control. Then it's over. It's like a light switch. On or off. No in between. So this story makes total sense. I would guess that the girl had a similar episode and when it was over she was back to being her sweet self. I just hope they don't drug her into foggy compliance like they did with my daughter. Probably will. Once the system gets its claws into a child, it never lets go.
The fact that the school's story might be plausible does not mean that involuntary commitment was the right answer. Why wasn't she simply turned over to her parents? And, if the outburst really was that bad, told she wouldn't be allowed back until the parents had an evaluation completed?
The school didn't call the cops on my kid, but they did kick her out. And they wouldn't let her back unless she was on drugs. Since we couldn't homeschool, and were legally obligated to educate the kid (not saying that's a bad thing), the only choice was drugs. Words can't describe how much I loathe the system.
This is simply a ruse to assure she cannot exercise her second amendment rights if they let her grow up.
I did some research on that and from what I could tell it doesn't apply if the person was a minor when involuntarily committed. You only lose your 2A rights if you are involuntarily committed as an adult. From what I could see. I'm not an attorney though.
And the dems have a decade to retroactively change that.
Which they will. After all, what sort of monster would want to leave the "lunatic minor loophole" open?!
Red flag!
There is better place for sure so check out https://sexsunshinecoast.com/
"Mental health assistance" = punishment with a thin veneer... Our educational system is cribbing from the old USSR!!! And I had thought that the educational system was supposed to be ADAMANTLY opposed to plagiarism!
Florida mental institution? Is that where they lock up sane people?
Is there a rule or law that says a school can have a child committed to a mental institution for two days, over any objections from the parents? Whatever happened to getting sent to the principal’s office, and then maybe getting suspended for one day for misbehaving? Is it easier for the school to call the cops and have the kid on a Ritalin/Adderral drip?

The Baker Act allows for the involuntary institutionalization of a Floridian and it can be for up to 72 hours. It is supposed to be " initiated by judges, law enforcement officials, physicians, or mental health professionals.". Not sure who initiated it in her case. I am neither a fan of medicating children for normal behavior or institutionalizing them but based on the linked article my guess is this is more complicated than it seems.
I have to agree. In fact, I'm going to go further. Publishing this article in such an abridged fashion is a violation of ethics. It's propaganda, not news.
I remember reading a study back in the 1970s that said that school administrators were more rigid about rules than prison wardens.
Makes sense. If you're an overbearing prick about the rules in prison, well some of those guys are lifers. Maybe they decide whatever punishment they get is worth it.
School though? Total power trip, without the need to watch your back.
Take my kid and find out how quickly that changes.
