Ultra-Hawk John Bolton Fired From Trump Administration
He got the boot before managing to start any new wars.

National Security Advisor John Bolton is out. President Donald Trump tweeted today that the stridently interventionist Bolton was asked to resign this morning over continued policy differences with the president and other members of his administration.
"I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration, and therefore I asked John for his resignation, which was given to me this morning. I thank John very much for his service," the president declared in a tweet. Trump said a new national security advisor would be named next week.
….I asked John for his resignation, which was given to me this morning. I thank John very much for his service. I will be naming a new National Security Advisor next week.

The public nature of his White House departure seems to have come as a surprise to Bolton. The outgoing national security advisor tweeted that he had offered his resignation last night but was told by Trump that they'd discuss it today.
I offered to resign last night and President Trump said, "Let's talk about it tomorrow."

Trump's mention of differences between Bolton and "others in his administration" appears to be a reference to the conflict between Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Pompeo has been overseeing peace negotiations with the Taliban as a prelude to a U.S. drawdown of troops in Afghanistan.
According to reporting from The Washington Post, Bolton had opposed these talks, preferring a unilateral, partial withdrawal of U.S. forces.
This was not the first disagreement between the ultra-hawkish Bolton and the occasionally more intervention-skeptic Trump. Time and again, Bolton has appeared to undermine the president's efforts to scale back U.S. interventions abroad.
In April 2018, for example, Bolton seemingly attempted to sabotage his boss's peace overtures to North Korea by suggesting that the U.S. would pursue the "Libyan model" of disarming the country. (The U.S. helped to overthrow Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi after he had agreed to give up his country's nuclear program.)
Bolton also helped to stall a U.S. exit from Syria. In December 2018, Trump announced that the U.S. would be withdrawing military forces from the country, only to have Bolton condition that withdrawal on a Turkish agreement to not attack Kurdish forces in Syria.
To be sure, Trump himself has been—at best—an erratic and fair weather dove. He suggests troop withdrawals one day and then makes bellicose threats the next.
Trump has certainly needed no encouragement to take a hostile line on Iran. Nevertheless, Bolton clearly helped to raise tensions with that country during his time in the White House. In May, for instance, Bolton made a very public show of dispatching an aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf in order to send Iran "a clear and unmistakable message" of U.S. resolve.
Bolton's departure from the White House is being greeted with a collective sigh of relief from non-interventionists everywhere.
John Bolton never should have been hired. I hope the president's next national security adviser will focus on securing peace, not expanding war.

It's unlikely that Bolton will disappear from the scene completely. Having been unceremoniously let go from the Trump administration, he may well become a professional Trump critic on cable news.
Still, the fact that Bolton will no longer have a direct role in setting U.S. foreign policy is a huge win for those who think the U.S. should be fighting fewer wars.

Fuck off Bolton.
At this point I think Trump brought Bolton on just to humiliate and eventually fire him.
Trump knew that Bolton is a warmonger Neo-Con and that does not fit into Trump's foreign strategy.
I suspected this just like Trump did to Tom Price.
trump also loved firing Comey and McCabe. McCabe was days from his retirement pension qualification. That was an awesomw fuck you.
Let's start with where I agree with loveconstitution1789's wack-a-loon post :
Yes - to the degree someone as ignorant, oblivious, and self-absorbed as Trump can have knowledge of anything, he did know that "Bolton is a warmonger Neo-Con and that does not fit into Trump’s foreign strategy."
Then lc1789. goes completely off the rails. He seems to suggest Trump hired Bolton as NSA purely for the pleasure of firing him. Whether he believes something so imbecilic is difficult to judge (people have that problem a lot with loveconstitution1789's posts).
But, of course, love's theory is hogwash. Yes, Trump appointed a National Security Advisor who bore no relationship to his supposed foreign policy. But that's because DJT has no foreign policy excepting three things : Posturing, Pandering, and Tweets. Bolton's beliefs were irrelevant to those three "core principles", so his views were irrelevant to Trump. So why pick him? Because he polled well with the Fox crowd (note "pandering" above). That he was useless as a adviser didn't matter to a president who believes nothing.
Then lc1789. goes completely off the rails. He seems to suggest Trump hired Bolton as NSA purely for the pleasure of firing him.
Did you miss the part where he said he suspected that this was Trump's plan all along? I can only assume his failure to link to any post wherein he's even remotely broached any such suspicion is due to his well-known disdain for doing our work for us. If we don't believe that he's suspected this all along, it's up to us to prove that he never suspected any such thing, not his job to prove that he did.
We're linking opinion now?
You better get busy bitch. You have a bunch of your nonsense comments that you need to link.
Jerry is usually very much the silly bitch.
If you post “wack-a-loon” then you’re the fucking loon.
Why in God's name did you think that a post by a (poor quality) parody account required even a one sentence rubutal, let alone a wall of word salad and derp?
All the poor troll socks are out today.
You might be a troll when youre backing up known trolls.
GRB, you are a tiresome bitch. Truly. A total follower, and a wannabe totalitarian. It will be good when your kind are swept aside and thrown away.
I've been I've been gone for a bit. Whose sock is "grb"? Tony? Chipper?
No. I do think GRB, NYP, and ‘Peter Duncan are the same moron. Or,just similarly retarded.
Crazy as it seems, I give it a fair likelihood that as president (not for his own business) Trump does like hiring people just to fire them. But I doubt that was the case with Bolton because it's 2.5 years into Trump's term already. He'd've done it earlier.
No, I think Trump was just fed up to here.
I can see where Trump thought it might be good to have a team of rivals, and then just got tired of the actual bitching. His Apprentice work was an apprenticeship for being Prez.
Uh huh. A president notorious for throwing blue-faced temper tantrums when aides bring up subjects he wants to avoid was looking for a "team of rivals". I bet poor Abe Lincoln is spinning in his grave over that one.
(1) Trump has no core beliefs, principles or ideas when it comes to foreign policy. "Brown people are bad" doesn't count, because that's just domestic pandering to his base. You might make a case for "international trade is a zero-sum game", but that's blind folly inherited from a lifetime of business bungling. (Trump is good at inheriting, I'll grant him that)
(2) Trumpian "foreign policy" can best be described as erratic bizarre incompetent flailing - and that's being generous. Look for any central theme and you come away frustrated. But reduce it to twin goals of pandering to GOP constituencies or looking for the surface sheen of PR "triumphs" and - Bingo !! - mystery solved.
(3) If you see foreign policy as somewhere to produce scripted reality-TV-style "victories" (however phony) then it doesn't matter if your National Security Adviser has no advice you're willing to hear. Might as well please the Fox News crowd with the appointment. I'm guessing John Bolton didn't understand his limited utility when he took the job.
(4) Trump's foreign policy: Posturing, Pandering, Tweets.
Lefties cannot admit that either:
1. Trump is far smarter than any of you Lefties and outmaneuvering you at every turn. His strategies for governance are mostly part of plans and are working well,
or
2. You are being defeated by a moron, which means that you Lefties are dumber than a moron.
It's number 2. He's a moron. However, he's a moron with a singular talent for manipulating other morons. Kind of like an autistic savant.
Poor lester224. Does not want to admit that his Team cannot beat Trump.
MAGA
And you’re a fucking loon.
Hmm... What if his strategy is just "this hasn't worked for decades, let's try something different"? It worked for George Castanza.
That would be consistent with a pragmatist with decades of experience in business.
“that would be consistent with a pragmatist with decades of experience in business”
Your description of Trump, huh? This “pragmatist with decades of experience in business” is the same guy who blew through the scores of millions Daddy staked him, was restaked with scores millions more, and blew every dime of that. Your “pragmatist” is the same dumpster-fire who ran two casinos into the ground, started & crashed his own jokey airline, owned a farce of a football team & left a string of business failures named after him (Trump Magazine, Trump Mortgages, Trump Steaks, etc). Somehow I think a “pragmatist with decades of experience in business” wouldn’t even bother with a grifter scam like Trump University. Despite DJT’s “decades of experience in business” he’s really developed only two talents :
(1) Branding : Putting his name on anything someone pays him to front. In branding I concede, Trump as-good (or even better) than the average Kardashian.
(2) Inheriting : Without Fred’s hundreds of millions Trump would be running a three-card monte on some street corner.
If Trump was truly the “pragmatist” you claim, he would have abandoned all delusions of competence and taken Daddy’s money to the local suburban office of Charles Schwab. He would have made out better than his own clownish results.
Everything you said is a distortion or already disproven bullshit. You are as lying unoriginal Marxist piece of shit who should on trial for sedition at a minimum.
GRB is his usual stupid cunt self.
Then, why did he hire him? Trump ran on a platform of ending these IMMORAL & ILLEGAL wars, so why hire a War Criminal?
Do you not how much money & how many jobs America's IMMORAL & ILLEGAL War on Terror & THE BULL-$HIT NATION-BUILDING has created for the Military-Industrial Complex & Our corrupt FED BEAST Pols since 9/11?.....If Trump tries to end that, he might very well end up dead like JFK who wanted no part of Vietnam!
I agree with you about the wars being immoral. Seems Trump is picking what battles he will fight, and when, which is why Trump hired Bolton IMHO. Bolton did more of the same (exactly what the military industrial complex wanted) with the same lousy results. Trump fires failures and replaces them. And to see what an arrogant statist neocon Bolton is, search for the episode Tucker Carlson did on Bolton - Tucker called him a failure.
Perhaps Trump will now start bringing the troops home. He was going to have some negotiations with the Taliban, but at this point he, like Reagan and Lebanon, may just wash his hands of it, and let the Afghans fight themselves and the other militant Muslims. The military has been Trump's only real friend in DC and he's been battling the Russian hoax and coup attempt.
Which really shows a lot of people in DC are legitimately guilty of sedition at a minimum.
It is more the BS corrupt Nation-building that goes on for years than the wars themselves!
People need to better understand the neocon/neoliberal NWO scheme of things. loveconstitution1789

You can begin by reading most any article here:
https://www.globalresearch.ca/the-rise-and-continued-influence-of-the-neocons/5649583
Bolton and Hillary work for their respective side of the same coin. Trump is simply not a neocon and he let us know that during his campaigns. But he has been manipulated into Likud/Netanyahu exceptionalism by his in-laws. Trump is not a fool, just an inveterate opportunist and business flake.
Trump is willing to fire those who fail in their jobs more so than any president since Reagan - you can find articles about it on the internet. Business Insider says "His Cabinet turnover exceeds that of any other administration in the last 100 years."
Holding government officials accountable is something that's been sorely missing for decades, and is an indication of how the political class protects itself, at our expense. This is a positive for Trump, and for libertarians.
That dictator-wannabe FDR never bothered to fire anyone; he simply left them in a post absent any authority and invented a new position to do the same work, gave it a new name and hired someone to fill it.
He was criminally negligent in leaving Truman in the dark concerning much of what was in process, knowing full well he was circling the drain, but his rep should probably suffer more as a result of his supposed 'administrative' skills.
Possibly for his institutional knowledge initially would be the only reason I can think. Glad he is gone. At least Trump seems to have the right instincts to lesson our foreign military involvements. Let's see if he will deliver.
AMEN TO THAT!!!
It is time we get out of all these IMMORAL & ILLEGAL wars, which have not made us any safer, & have killed, maimed & displaced hundreds of thousands of innocent people & destroyed stable nations & their infrastructure while enriching the Military-Industrial Complex & our FED BEAST Pols!!!...ENOUGH ALREADY! BRING ALL THE TROOPS HOME TODAY!!!
"Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few. In war, too, the discretionary power of the Executive is extended; its influence in dealing out offices, honors, and emoluments is multiplied; and all the means of seducing the minds, are added to those of subduing the force, of the people. The same malignant aspect in republicanism may be traced in the inequality of fortunes, and the opportunities of fraud, growing out of a state of war, and in the degeneracy of manners and of morals engendered by both. No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare."
—James Madison, Political Observations, Apr. 20, 1795 in: Letters and Other Writings of James Madison, vol. 4, p. 491 (1865)
I suppose Madison's words were accurate in his time. If he had seen how the unconstitutional domestic welfare, health and education bureaucracies have dwarfed military spending and are now the primary tool for bringing the many under the domination of the few, that quote would be much different.
Military spending is nearly 60% of Federal budget. Welfare money is spent domestically. Military industriual spending is mostly welfare that has large % spent overseas. Give a poor family food stamps and it is welfare for agribiz; spent immediately at home. Manufacture a rocket and it sits on a shelf unless it is fired and explodes; contributing no secondary effect to benefit economy.
Economics 101
I stole this comment here below, but it is worth repeating: It is time we get out of all these IMMORAL & ILLEGAL wars, which have not made us any safer, & have killed, maimed & displaced hundreds of thousands of innocent people & destroyed stable nations & their infrastructure while enriching the Military-Industrial Complex & our FED BEAST Pols!!!…ENOUGH ALREADY! Military spending is NOT 60% of the federal budget.
Social security and medicare are over 50% of the federal budget.
Where do people get nonsense like that?
Ridiculous claim that military is 60% of the budget.
It's clear from the quote that war itself isn't the problem, but that it allows the evils of standing armies and taxation.
The US government class no longer needs war to tax their way to totalitarianism.
Thank you !!!
Senator Chris Murphy (D) explains why this is bad:
I’m legitimately shaken by the grave instability of American foreign policy today. I’m no Bolton fan, but the world is coming apart, and the revolving door of U.S. leadership is disappearing America from the world just at the moment where a stable American hand is most needed.
It's yet another example of Drumpf's "Russia First!" foreign policy. Which Mueller proved with his report.
#LegitimatelyShaken
#WorldComingApart
Chris Murphy is a racist who dislikes Trump's continuation of the first black President's most libertarian policy, leading from behind.
the world is coming apart
Someone needs to read Steven Pinker. It's sad that these politicians see themselves as the glue that holding a ceramic world together when really they are a hammer desperately smacking a lump of clay, demanding that it become a pot.
If everything was as fragile as many people seem to think, it would have fallen apart long ago.
I wonder what these people think the world is "coming apart" into? What is their vision of a world that completely "come apart"? Do they honestly think we're on a path to World War 3, or Armageddon? Or are they just envisioning 4 more years of Trump as the end of all things?
Good point. For some, having a president who says dumb stuff on twitter seems to be all it really takes.
Mueller intentionally proved nothing by his report and could not defend it even if he had written it at his hearing. The neocon/neoliberal Deep State sided with an evil Hillary after the engineered dumping of Sanders. Trump is not neocon, but easily misled. He is easy to hate, but he us our only hope to reclaim Constitutional government after the presidencies of Clinton,Bushes and Obama. Comey, DNC, et al. conspired to rig the election, not Russians. Cognitive dissonance at work with you? How do you deal with the 'puzzle' of Uranium One sale by Clinton's State Dept. and Hillary Foundation getting paid for teh favor. MSM is neocon/neoliberal and you are snowed by MSM propaganda and omissions or any semblance of real journalism. This is the real narrative: All countries spy and try to influence elections in USA because the outcome so effects the world. Likewise, how hypocritical for any Democrat (should know betters) to manufacture yet another "ënemy" adversary when CIA and NSA and Mossad, and MI-6, etc. intervene in every election of every 3rd world government in the world? Furthermore, WTF is Hillary/Obama's foreign policy by assassination and wholesale failing of elected Libya? That is not tampering with elections? Frosting on this cake is the record arms sales to literal butcher of human flesh, Prince Salman Saudis; the proxy genocide in Yemen! Come to think of it, your comment is insideous and probably paid troll inspired extension of the most ill inspired conspiracy theory in world history, with exception of Napoleon. The only Russian conspiracy was Clintons and Biden's. Biden for President are you? Do you know Hunter Biden??? Buddies?
Gotta give credit to Trump. He was not against listening to differing opinions from his own. But in the end he calls the shots. Erratic or not, this is refreshing in contrast to the mushy "I heard about it in the news " attitude of the last prez.
This is like when dimwits wanted to give Trump credit for not killing 150 Iranians in cold blood. Man gets graded on the retard scale.
Whoops. Looks like Kamala used my account again.
+10
GO TRUMP! Now hire Tulsi Gabbard in his place.
Lol... that would be funny.
Yeah! Let’s put some half commie from Hawaii in the White ahouse!
Whoever around her watches Fox News, please let me know who the next National Security Advisor will bee.
Around her - Tulsi?
Judge Napolitano?
Nikki Haley would be a good choice but I doubt she would take the job.
Nikki Haley, adored Bolton and comes in #2 satan after Bolton. She was fired for insubordination also, remember.
Exactly! Trump hired Bolton because he saw him on T.V. It wasn't anything he put much thought into.
Credit to the Orange. Today he be good.
Giving him credit for firing the guy he hired, in spite of his "ending endless wars" rhetoric? The retard curve sure is getting a lot of mileage.
Dang it! Kamala used my account again.
Well, use a password other than ‘causticcunt123’. She already knows that one.
What do you do when you make a mistake - double down?

Firing Bolton has to be near the top of the list of best things Trump has done. Kudos for admitting this guy is bad news.
Is an ultra-hawk bigger than an eagle?
Similar size, but bigger mustache.
Ben Shapiro is mad today.
Not a surprise. Hos always be mad.
Ben Shapiro and Max Boot are fuming. The 4F IDF brigade is on the warpath.
This alone should allow them to roll back the armaggedon doomsday clock from 11:58 to at least 5:30.
They won't because....Trump!
Does the clock have a snooze button or are we still stuck with the same analog POS from 1947?
They just don't realize the battery ran out decades ago.
And the world actually ended in 1978.
Concern for the doomsday clock certainly did.
Heh...I'd like to see one day they set that clock for slightly after noon/midnight.
Trump shouldn't have just fired Bolton - he should have offered to nuke a random mountain outside of Kandahar, on the condition that Bolton Slim Pickensed the bomb down. Bolton would have taken the deal.
Of course, I should admit that, at the time, I thought hiring Bolton as NSA was a brilliant move on Trump's part. If you want to know what to do in any particular instance, just ask John Bolton what he would do and then do the exact opposite. A broken clock is useless for telling you what time it is, but it's fairly reliable for telling you what time it isn't.
To whatever extent we believe the allegations regarding Bolton's hand in fabricating the bogus intelligence that rationalized the invasion of Iraq, the timing of his firing in relation to the breakdown in talks with the Taliban may also be telling.
There aren't any facts about Bolton that would make me think he didn't want those talks burned to the ground.
Bolton has bigger fish to fry.
We "won" in Afghanistan as much as any other country can and now not going after Iran is upsetting Bolton.
I could see him wanting a peace deal with the Taliban so he can focus the USA on Iran. Secure rear lines and all.
(1) This past Sunday the Miami Dolphins "won" as much as any team on the wrong side of a 59-10 score. I'm sure that was a great comfort to them.
(2) Trump was never "going after Iran". All he ever wanted was to force a slightly different treaty which he could claim was the "greatest deal ever". The Iranians know that, mainly because Trump has repeatedly told military force is off the table. It's a wonder Supreme Leader Khamenei doesn't just play Trump for a fool like Dear Leader Kim.
(3) Everyone (and I mean everyone) knows the proposed Taliban deal was just a face-saving way to exit. Like the Paris Peace Accords of Vietnam, it's good only until the US is gone, and then the Taliban will ignore it. Can there be someone so laughably naive to believe a treaty with the Taliban would "secure rear lines and all" ?!?!?
Sigh. Apparently so.........
Everyone (and I mean everyone) knows the proposed Taliban deal was just a face-saving way to exit.
No shit, you left-wing cumstain. That's been the inevitable result when Obama didn't immediately pull out all of our troops from there after Bin Laden was killed, which was the sole reason for our being there in the first place.
What exactly are your excuses for him?
Six months after 9/11, Bush said Bin Laden wasn't a top priority for his administration in a press conference. Asked whether he thought capturing Bin Laden was important, Bush scolded those who cared about the terrorist for not “understanding the scope of the mission” because Bin Laden was just “one person,” whom Bush said, “I really just don’t spend that much time on”, There are a good score of quotes saying Bin Laden was not the purpose of the U.S. presence in Afghanistan, much less the "sole reason". That was the case years before the Obama entered the White House. That was the case years before George W. Bush dramatically increased troop numbers in the so-called "Surge".
Why are you so damn ignorant?
Nothing you wrote there refuted what I said. In fact, it only reinforced the fact that Obama is just as responsible for this perpetual occupation as anyone.
And you do realize that Afghanistan has gone through two "surges" since Bush, right, you ignorant left-wing fantasist? In fact, the American death toll there dramatically increased when Obama's took place.
I realize that, as a left-wing cumstain, you are biologically wired to not ascribe responsibility for anything bad happening on the watch of Democrats. But don't others "ignorant" when you're simply gaslighting from your own disingenuousness.
You’re not very bright, are you? I’ll walk you thru this slowly, as I would an educationally challenged small child.
You claimed :
(1) Afghanistan was Obama’s fault
(2) Because we were in Afghanistan to chase Bin Laden
(3) And Obama didn’t withdraw forces after killing him
That argument makes zero sense on the face of it, but with its general meaninglessness came one verifiable fact : The U.S. was in Afghanistan for the “sole reason” of pursuing Bin Laden. But anyone who knows ANYTHING about recent history recognizes your claim as bullshit - easily disproved, as I did. So your attempt to give Obama sole and special blame was likewise bullshit. Yes Obama could have pulled troops, but the same is true of Bush or Trump.
You change your tune in your latest response, saying “In fact, it only reinforced the fact that Obama is just as responsible for this perpetual occupation as anyone” Now, I all in favor of a fool (such as yourself) walking back his bullshit once he realizes he stepped in it, but please don’t think no one will notice the strategic retreat. In fact, as BSL1 points out below, there was a very clear cut-off point where a U.S. withdrawal could have been cleanly done. The person who blew that opportunity was George W. Bush. Instead, he launched an even bigger clusterf**k idiot foreign policy catastrophe, Iraq. Why don’t you figure some way to blame Obama for that?
Don’t worry; I’ll stick around to correct you……
(1) Afghanistan was Obama’s fault
(2) Because we were in Afghanistan to chase Bin Laden
(3) And Obama didn’t withdraw forces after killing him
Jesus, you're even dumber than I imagined.
I never said "Afghanistan was Obama's fault." I said that a face-saving way to exit Afghanistan was inevitable when Obama didn't immediately withdraw our troops after killing Bin Laden--and if you think we were in Afghanistan to "bring democracy" to the region, rather than putting a bullet in his head, you're exceptionally stupid.
The U.S. was in Afghanistan for the “sole reason” of pursuing Bin Laden. But anyone who knows ANYTHING about recent history recognizes your claim as bullshit – easily disproved, as I did.
You didn't actually disprove it at all. In fact, your boy Obama directly claimed that we "took our eye off the ball" when we diverted resources towards Iraq instead of finishing things in Afghanistan. And if there was a "clear point" that we could have pulled out during the Bush years, as you claim, then why didn't Obama take that opportunity during his eight full years in office?
Don't worry, I know you don't have an answer to that one that wasn't concocted out of thin air, but I'll be here to correct you.
We won in Afghanistan after just a few weeks. The problem is that we didn't leave when we won. Mr. Powell had a lot to do with that, using his "if we break it we own it" philosophy. Result: Two more decades of spending tons of money and getting good Americans killed in that S Hole.
The Powell Doctrine is the worst piece of foreign policy the US has adopted in its history. It's neocon garbage that justifies endless military occupation.

Last week Bolton was sacred. He was Trump's pick and how dare you criticize any of Trump's picks! Today we learn that we've always been at war with Bolton.
I'm glad he's out. I did not him before Trump picked him, I did not like him after he picked him, and I still don't like him. The man is evil.
But what the frak was Trump thinking when he picked him? It's not like he was a blank book, he was well known as a rabid hawk. So why pick him when Trump didn't want a hawk? Did Trump just pull his name from a hat?
Last week Bolton was sacred. He was Trump’s pick and how dare you criticize any of Trump’s picks! Today we learn that we’ve always been at war with Bolton.
Do the voices that tell you these things speak English or does everything come in its original Klingon?
Abraham Lincoln surrounded himself with people had very different opinions.
You can always tell a critical person "no". It's harder to figure out if Yes-men are giving you good advice that might be contrary to what they think you want to hear.
Lefties love Yes-men around them, so this Trump leadership tactic makes no sense to them.
Trump, the new man's lincoln.
He’s working on the...
Fornication Proclamation!
Lincoln was one of the worst Presidents.
He suspended habeas corpus, invaded Maryland to prevent their Constitutional state right to a protected Republic and be protected from invasion, and violated the 1st Amendment to go after dissenting newspapers.
But hey, his strategy won the Civil War and he got Congress to start the process to pass the 13th Amendment to end slavery except for prisoners.
(private). Wish there were a way to talk directly about Lincoln.
Have you read Wm. O Douglass book, Mr. Lincoln and the Slaves? It was out of print but an excellent place to find the real story of the Civil War by reputable SCOTUS and scholar. I say Civil War was entirely avoidable and about taxation of cotton, not abolition. Abolition began just as an excuse to enter the bloodiest war in American history.
Yeah, there's plenty of evidence that Trump likes to be told "no".
Like Bernie Sanders, Trump and his family are directly threatened by Deep State; tow the line or else. This firing must have been done with consent for fear of another Kennedy.
Umm..John Bolton is extremely annoying. The Deep State had nothing to do with him getting fired. Take your shiny hat off.
Waiting quietly for the blue-checkmarks to find a reason to be outraged.
Bolton is a responsible and experienced foreign policy hand who is being run out of government by an increasingly unstable Trump!!
The talking points are so stupid and obvious I am not sure they even need to be put out on the journolist anymore.
The unstable Trump line is exactly what they're running. Who can possibly deal with this white house when you never know who will be in what chair next week!?
I agree with your opinion on Bolton, but this isn't evidence of Trump becoming increasingly unstable. They just don't agree on much, and the ultimate direction is up to the POTUS. If Mr. Trump doesn't believe he can move forward in his chosen direction with Mr. Bolton, he needs to get someone into the NSA chair he can work with. Pretty simple.
"Bolton is a responsible and experienced foreign policy hand who is being run out of government by an increasingly unstable Trump!!"
The walls are closing in, this is the beginning of the end, and it's the tipping point!!!!!
The POTUS gets to pick his team. It is that simple. Sometimes, the chemistry is just not there. Hope the Senate does not drag their feet confirming the next NSC.
Another reason to keep Lefties focused on Hurricane Dorian trajectory predictions rather than new Trump nominations.
"Last week Bolton was sacred. He was Trump’s pick and how dare you criticize any of Trump’s picks! "
That's not anything I've seen on this site. Do you have a reference?
Or is it just the voices in your head?
Do you have a reference?

Countdown to the media suddenly beginning to praise John Bolton . . . .
Best thing ever to happen to Bolton. He'll be offered several plump book deals, CNN will make him a regular and he'll get invited to the Georgetown cocktail party circuit.
Nor really sure this is an unqualified good thing. Primarily because we are not clear on who the replacement will be.
If Bolton was capable of leading Trump into a war I suspect we'd be there already, so maybe we'd have been safer with the devil we already know.
Trump's personnel decisions remind me of the melding process in pinochle.
It's almost impossible for anybody to be worse than Bolton. Seriously, could anybody be worse? Dick Cheney maybe?
That is overly simplistic. It is not simply a matter of who they are, it is also how Trump views him/her and how that person interacts with the entire state apparatus.
Thankfully he's not about to pick Hillary, so we got that going for us.
Rumsfeld
Shudders...
Bolton resembles a Captain Kangaroo-Colonel Sanders hybrid. Such a mythical beast would be infinitely preferable to him...

Hillary Clinton.

Jane Harmon, Wilsonian harpy cunt extraordinaire.
I mean, if Bolton is going behind Trump's back on things, that would be a pretty good reason to fire him, considering how much of that bs he's had to handle since day one.
Yup.
I think like any business manager, Trump hires people and delegates tasks. He's not micromanaging every decision but the primary task is to further his agenda. Bolton is a creature of the deep state and he, like Comey, honestly believes that he can set his own agenda for the greater good. Once Trump begins to notice that they're not doing what he hired them to do, he fires their ass. But yeah. It would make a lot more sense to just hire like minded people in the first place.
Lefties don't even understand that Trump has interns doing some of his Tweets.
Lefties think Trump is on Twatter 24/7.
Worst Bolton: John vs Michael. Discuss.
Micheal Bolton the musician or Micheal Bolton from Office Space?

the fuck does that mean?

Well yeah but he got to be on the same stage with Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder.
So he’s got that going for him.
Wait, which Bolton are we talking about?
The other one has a great mustache.
"Naga... Naga... Not gonna work here anymore!"
Its good to be a gangster
"You shall not pass!"
No, sorry, wrong iconic movie.
God damn it! Leo likes Office Space, like I do.
Nah, nah, nah, nah
Hey, hey hey
Goodbye now!
Good riddance. Most sensible thing Trump has done in months.
Mr. Bolton called Pres. Trump and Press Sec. Grisham liars today.
Some people seem dumb enough to believe Trump and Grisham.
Well if you can't trust a guy like Bolton, whose foreign policy opinions mirror liberal/libertarians like Hilary Clinton, who can you trust. I'll bet he went to one of those liberal/libertarian universities we've heard so much about.
Kirkland always believed Bolton
Is there, like, any amount of nuance you people are capable of tolerating?
You're definition of "nuance" is "tribalist demagogy", so no.
Compared to whom? Pre-Trump Democrats? Republicans? He's got to be the most dovish POTUS since...uh...Carter? Eisenhower?
Reagan.
The 1980s, AKA the Pax Reagana.
In 8 years, he bombed Libya and knocked over a taco stand with an aircraft carrier in Grenada.
Not bad considering what followed.
And by "bombing Libya" it was a few fighter jets that lobbed a hellfire through Khadaffi's bedroom window-- which caused Libya to become a quiet neighborhood for the next 30 years. Say what you will about old Mohamar, he responded to incentives.
Negative Reinforcement via bombs can work wonders.
Speaking of "what followed", recall what Osama bin Laden said he found instructive about Ronald Reagan. Not a twelve minutes of bombs dropped on a few tents - and certainly not the frolic in Grenada.
Instead, recall WHY we invaded the flyspeck Caribbean island in the first place. Two truck bombs had just killed over 300 people at a barracks in Lebanon, including 241 U.S. Marines. The decision to completely withdraw came immediately; the frou-frou in the tropics was just a lightly entertaining diversion a few days later.
But Bin Laden would remember Lebanon, not Grenada. He would later say that Reagan’s failure to respond convinced him that America was a weak nation that could be attacked with impunity.
The decision to completely withdraw came immediately; the frou-frou in the tropics was just a lightly entertaining diversion a few days later.
Stop getting your history lessons from Counterpunch.

Lefty 'tards must spend entire days inventing shit like this.
F-111s aren't fighter jets.
Technically, F-111s were called fighter bombers. Or long range interdiction and tactical bombers.
They were a preview failure of the F-35 debacle.
F-14 was one of the best fighters in the US arsenal. Making a bomber variant was stupid as that version sucked.
F-18 is a decent fighter and a decent bomber.
A-10 is one of the best tactical bombers in the US arsenal. The Air Force hates it because they think its beneath them to provide tactical air support to ground troops.
We learned the lesson of Vietnam. By the 90s we had forgotten.
What's A Vietnam?
We learned the lesson of Vietnam.
That you can make hundreds of billions of dollars selling arms and equipment for a war we have no intention of winning?
Only if you don't pay attention to all the bombs he's dropping on civilians, which you may be forgiven for since the media don't talk about it.
Barack Obama?
Yeah he murdered two Americans without a trial.
I think the thing I like the least about cunts like you is how willing you are to whore out corpses for cheap political zingers. You don't care about dead people if they are killed by Republicans. That's the moral rot at your core. You believe in nothing, so don't bring the dead into it.
And if you think I approve of any aspect of the continued War on Terror, including its lackadaisical approach to civil rights, no matter which president is continuing it, you are mistaken.
Poor Tony he wants people to talk to him so bad.
Bolton seemingly attempted to sabotage his boss's peace overtures to North Korea by suggesting that the U.S. would pursue the "Libyan model" of disarming the country.
Libya would have gone smoothly if it wasn't for that unknown filmmaker.
And that stupid dog of his.
Because Libya turned out so good.
But we're to believe Barry and Hilary were playing chess.
GTFOH.
No Lefty will ever admit that they say Hillary and Barry eating the chess pieces.
Why isn't Trump doing this The Apprentice style and firing Bolton on live TV?
YOU'RE FIRED!
"He may well become a professional Trump critic on cable news."
Most definitely! Orange man bad!
Bolton, no doubt will be hired at $665 thousand by CNN to partner with Rachel Maddow ! MSM is neocon/neoliberal. They are just alike except Rachel is a fledgling in New World Order.
Fucking MAGA! That is all.
+100
I was never crazy about the guy in the first place, so this comes as good news, as far as I'm concerned.
"To be sure, Trump himself has been—at best—an erratic and fair weather dove."
Who was the last president who didn't get us involved in a new war/policing action? Carter? Ford? I'd say Trump has been a pretty effective dove so far, and all signs point to him actually trying to get out of Afghanistan, without it just being a rout. And at the same time, he's making it clear that just because he doesn't want to start a new war doesn't mean he'll be pushed around either. I can respect his foreign policy a lot more than Obama's & Bush's.
Gerald Ford. South Vietnam collapsed the first year of his Presidency but he didn't start any new conflicts.
Fun Fact: Jimmy Carter actually started the arming of the Mujahideen via Pakistan's Intel services.
Rand Paul for National Security Adviser
No more neocon Trotskyites in the White House
Yes, yes Rand has been excellent in Senate Forign Relations with bi-partisan support working with Mike Lee. Rand would be excellent person but he is needed more as a Senator. How about Tulsi Gabbard who is nominally Dem but neoliberal Dems hate her.
No. *Ron* Paul.
What President Trump needs to do now is tell Iranians that the Nuclear Treaty is back on as far as he is concerned and ask them work to deescalate tensions in the region.
This is an idiotic idea.
Go sit in the corner
It is an excellent idea. The rest of the world want to work with the Iranians and is very happy with the treaty. The only reason for opposing it is because President Obama's Administration negotiated the treaty. Basically Trump is willing to take us to the edge of war to deny that Obama was successful in his negotiations. Success President Trump has yet to achieve.
"...The only reason for opposing it is because President Obama’s Administration negotiated the treaty...."
Lefty ‘tards must spend entire days inventing shit like this.
Yes, excellent idea, of course.
Is this the same rest of the world that thought overthrowing Quadafi would lead to peace in North Africa?
#MemoryHoled factoid
Well.. er.. uh.. maybe they learned their lesson??
...
...
AHAHAHAHAHA. Nah, I'm just kiddin' ya. OF COURSE they didn't learn their fucking lesson!
ask them work to deescalate tensions in the region.
Hahaha. What a great joke.
Are you really stupid enough to think Iran's going to do a single thing to "de-escalate tensions" when their primary goal is creating an Islamic version of the Persian empire?
Um... this is stupid.
Iran isn't interested in de-escalating tensions, but the game they're playing is the same one that Russia is playing in its "near abroad." They're maintaining strategic instability in order to counter their regional rivals, the Saudis.
The way you stop them from doing that is (i) stop being on the side of the Saudis, (ii) re-establish a dialogue on the nuclear accord that can set the tone and a template for further negotiations on other regional concerns, and (iii) give the Iranians a real alternative to being a cornered international pariah.
Trump tore up the only progress we'd recently made with Iran and put us on the path to the status quo when Ahmadinejad was in power.
"Russia = bad.
Iranian theocracy = good."
-progressive gospel
And they don't even know why
Glad to see some agreement that while Iran is a bad actor it is still better to be in an agreement with them and talking. This site spends a lot of time decrying the conflicts we are entangled in around the world. We should not seek conflict where it is not needed.
Iran isn’t interested in de-escalating tensions, but the game they’re playing is the same one that Russia is playing in its “near abroad.” They’re maintaining strategic instability in order to counter their regional rivals, the Saudis
I didn't argue otherwise, you dumbshit.
The way you stop them from doing that is (i) stop being on the side of the Saudis, (ii) re-establish a dialogue on the nuclear accord that can set the tone and a template for further negotiations on other regional concerns, and (iii) give the Iranians a real alternative to being a cornered international pariah.
You literally have no understanding of the complexity of Middle Eastern politics, beyond what you see on the news. That's why you think these are serious suggestions.
"You literally have no understanding of the complexity of Middle Eastern politics"
Please enlighten us as to the state of politics in the middle east. I see nothing in your post other than being contrary. And I see no reason to take sides and get involved in wars in the middle east if we can help it.
Please enlighten us as to the state of politics in the middle east.
Saying "just stop being on the side of the Saudis" is exceptionally stupid. The Saudis are currently acting as the primary check on Iranian ambitions in the region, which is the whole reason we're helping them with their proxy war against Iran in Yemen, among other things.
Furthermore, the US is trying to keep the very fragile coalition in the GCC from completely falling apart, which isn't helped by the fact that Qatar continually walks a fine line between trying not to piss off its Arabian peninsula neighbors too badly due to its hosting of Muslim Brotherhood activists, criticism of Saudi/UAE/Egyptian policies via the Imam's media mouthpiece at Al-Jazeera; keeping up good relations with the US despite these same policies; and sharing the world's largest natural gas field with Iran, which Iran only indulges the Qataris because they know they can use Qatar as a cat's paw to SA and the majority Sunni GCC countries. Read up on what Erdogan, a MB sympathizer, did when the Saudi-allied GCC countries cut off diplomatic relations with Qatar back in 2017.
Kuwait is essentially the mediator for the GCC folks whenever disputes break out because of their extremely vulnerable geographical position. That's not even getting into everything that's happened in Iraq and Syria during the rise and fall of ISIS in the region, which would take pages to go into.
There's a lot more I could discuss, but most of it is classified. Suffice to say that Simon's hot take and your passive-aggressive posts don't even scratch the surface of the political dynamics in the region.
And I see no reason to take sides and get involved in wars in the middle east if we can help it.
Hey dumbshit, no one here is advocating more wars in the Middle East. Now fuck off back to the left-wing sewer you crawled out from.
Sorry, but nothing you said here suggests that we can not work with Iran. We had a working agreement to stop their work on a nuclear bomb. This agreement was a start and would give us time to work with Iran on other issues. All that was thrown down the drain and now President Trump wants to talk with Iran. He should have started talks when he had a starting point. You may call me any names you want, but I have been alive long enough to know that wars should be avoided at all cost. Men like Donald Trump and John Bolton don't bear the price of war, the people on the ground soldier and civilian do.
Sorry, but nothing you said here suggests that we can not work with Iran.
Nothing that you've posted suggests that what Simon proposed was realistic either.
You may call me any names you want, but I have been alive long enough to know that wars should be avoided at all cost.
No one is calling for more war, you dumbfuck. Try learning how to read sometime.
"He got the boot before managing to start any new wars."
oh, brother..stop the over affected headlines, Christian
That is no exaggeration at all!!! Bolton's nickname is not
Dr. Strangelove for nothing.
Fuck off, neocon.
Which would win in a fight, Bolton's mustache or Stossel's mustache?
which do the chicks like better?
Bolton's mustache would send in some much younger, poorer mustaches to do his dirty work for him, occupy Stossel's mustache for countless years, and then claim victory on an aircraft carrier.
I legitimately surprised Zion Don fired such a blatant Israeli double agent as John Shabbos Bolton.
Valid point and are not the Clintons also double agents of Israel and Debbie Wassermann-Schultz? 24 members of the House are dual Israeli citizens and Likudists.
"...Zion Don..."
A Misek sock, or just a new anti-semite trying to be clever?
Fuck off, scumbag.
jonn warmonger bolton: "b-b-b-but mr. president... we HAVE to maintain a constant state of war or we'll appear weak"
$trump2020: meh... no thanks. we'll figure a way to end it soon.
$trump2020
So is the Taliban summit back on?
Obligatory: imagine if Obama floated that one!
Why have a Taliban summit if you could just withdraw unilaterally and declare mission accomplished, and no one in your base will give a shit? No way the Taliban will spawn another major terrorist attack until well into the next term, right?
The Taliban didn't spawn shit. The Taliban are evil theocratic assholes we don't want in charge of Afghanistan, but they didn't do 9/11.
We're only still there to keep a military presence near Pakistan anyway.
The summit is off.
A Taliban breakfast brunch is planned.
Menu?
"Why, Hakim, you haven't even touched your ham and eggs! Did our protocol guy screw it up again?"
I'm guessing not the Buddha bowl.
He fired Bolton. Great. Fewer wars.
Now, instead, we get bad deals. End drills in South Korea and shrug off missile tests by the DPRK in exchange for a shuttered facility they didn't want anyway. Float loans to the Iranian regime in exchange for a photo-op with Rouhani. Invite the goddamn Taliban to Camp David and sign over Afghanistan for a bunch of empty promises.
Bolton was a dangerous warmongerer, but he had the sense not to be blinkered by the many adversaries who know exactly how to play Trump (and his idiot base). Flatter his ego. Offer him one-sided deals. Get it done by the 2020 campaign season.
Y'all were complaining about Obama sending billions of dollars to Iran in order to get them to freeze their nuclear activities. Now Trump wants to give them a lifeline while they're amping them up. N-dimensional chess, except we're the losers.
Not a surprise that a left-wing cumstain like SimonP is acting as an apologist for Bolton now.
Trump hires garbage fox news war hawk as national security adviser...
Trump cucks: "He's a genius! Team of rivals! Different perspective than trumps totes libertarian non interventionist policy! MAGA!"
Trump fires said garbage hawk after he gets sassy and disagrees with him a couple times...
Trump cucks: "He's a genius! Stickin it to the hawks! Next level chess to own bolton! He did it because he doesnt want interventionalism! MAGA! Taliban in the white house is sweeeeeeeet!"

Poor LC wants his ration of borscht so bad.
“Gluten is in everything”
Not borscht though.
My grandfather came from Russia. He made a borscht. It was the beef variety. He also hated American bread. He made his own. Got up in the morning before my parents to send me off to school and give me a slab of it with butter and jam. Cup of orange juice. The bus pulled up he would slap my shoulder and say “rabotayetz”.
can totes win twice.
Nominating the corpse of McNamara would at least give us some Weekend at Bernie's style hijinx that our foreign policy is surely lacking.
Actually, he captured LoveC's inane post quite well.
In all the years of reading Reason, LC has gotta be the goofiest poster of all time from the crazy Right. He's got a long way to go before challenging the leaders of the Crazy Left, like Mary, White Indian, tony, et al.
Why not? Elliot Abrams was recently removed from his sarcophagus to serve as envoy to Venezuela.
This troll doesn't know what Libertarianism even is, so everyone to the Right of his Socialism is "Right".
You calling yourself Libertarian is like Satan calling himself Christian, lol!
Nice troll job, Republican statist
He did those birthday card things, which were actually pretty funny in an over-the-top self deprecating sort of way.
Satan is central to Christian scripture so I'd say in a way he is fairly Christian.
Peter duncan sockpuppet. Hahaha
He's a fallen angel, for christssake!
Y ah, he always pops out around GRB and NYP who may also be the same person.
Progtards are always pathetic faggots.
