The city council of Saonara, Italy, has voted to make it illegal "to blaspheme against any faith or religion," including taking the Lord's name in vain, or to use foul language in public. Those found guilty of violating the law face fines of up to €400 (about $445).

The blasphemy ban is part of a far-reaching local law aimed at tackling uncivil behaviour. It includes 75 articles with hefty sanctions for those who mow the lawn outside designated hours, walk their dog without a leash or dump their rubbish in public places.
Is it per offense or am I only fined once if I can combine multiple offenses in one act?

illegal "to blaspheme against any faith or religion," including

conducting exorcisms or even saying Satan is "bad", right? RIGHT?!

  9. Quo Usque Tandem   6 years ago

And there seems to be a burgeoning plurality of persons in the country who want nothing more than a government empowered to make us behave according to their beliefs. And, like Tony, only believe WASPs are capable of being evil.

Jesus, Joseph, and doggy-style Mary! All religions and religious "people" should ESADIAF!

  12. EscherEnigma   6 years ago

The Church of Satan needs to head on over there and cause some ruckus, I think.

Or does the law only count "religions" they approve of?

Finally Pastafarians will get some respect in Italy. They must have been touched by his noodly appendage.

  14. MelvinUpton   6 years ago

    Uh yeah this is tyranny.

  15. MelvinUpton   6 years ago

With this law you will not be able to cause offence to any religion, we have to respect the faithful

No, we have to refute the faithful.

"The mayor, a practicing Catholic, said it was not designed to protect only Christianity, but all faiths. “It is valid for Allah, Buddha or Mohammad,” he said."

One difficulty is that one religion's blasphemy may be another religion's bold truth-telling.

And is blasphemy against atheists banned?

  17. Ben of Houston   6 years ago

Come on, y'all. It will be useful when you can't figure out the seashells.
