Brickbat: Don't Call Us

A spokesman for Chicago's Office of Emergency Management and Communications says the agency will discipline and retrain a 911 operator who hung up on a road rage victim. The victim says a man in a van cut her off and yelled slurs at her. When she drove off, she says the man followed, so she called 911. The operator told the frightened woman to stop yelling at her. The woman hung up on the operator because she thought the operator wasn't helping. She called back and got the same operator. She asked for someone else, but the operator said "Bye" and hung up on her.

Oh... It is a terrible attitude to work and the performance of duties! The woman got into trouble and needed understanding and help. My opinion that it is a mistake to try to discipline or retrain such workers because it is their life position and they will not change! When I read this article I remember a joke from the pin that I saw on ResumesBot Pinterest Two hunters are in the woods when one of them collapses. His hunting buddy immediately calls 911. “My friend isn’t breathing,” he shouts into the phone. “What should I do?” “Relax,” the operator tells him. “I can help. First, let’s make sure he’s dead.” There’s silence, and then a gunshot. The guy gets back on the phone and says, “OK, now what?”
Always good to start the day with a laugh.
Now this is how you spam correctly.
What will happen next? I predict this:
The black-lady victim of road rage will take her case all the way up the law-enforcement chain, to the very top!
And then Our Finest POTUS will tell her, "Go back to where you came from!"
"FuckOffAndDie.com"
Isn't that what they call this place?
Similar thing happened in Philly decades ago - 911 operator hung up on a heart attack victim who later died. Made national news, and got a skit on SNL with Roseanne Barr as the 911 operator.
911 operators need training BEFORE they start on their jobs, not after they fuck up.
At the same time, I have had occasion to hear a woman screaming about petty or senseless shit and concluded that hanging up, if an option, was probably the best one. I assume men do the same, but I'm not a 911 operator.
A model for government-run health care?
Nobody died?
The woman was, in fact, yelling at the 911 operator?
How is this news?
More noteworthy, IMO, is both the narrative drift from CBS to Reason (the operator contacted the victim back) as well as CBS's shitty editing.
The victim says a man in a van cut her off and yelled slurs at her.
You mean the caller alleges a man in a van cut her off and yelled slurs at her? So, the guy cut her off, bringing both cars to a stop, in order to yell slurs at her? Or could she have possibly committed a moving violation for which the other driver would/should/could be rightfully pissed? I mean, it is Chicago and Jusse's attackers are still on the loose but it seems like this retelling is exceedingly one-sided.
Have you ever tried to be the other side of a BAP conversation?
