Kamala Harris Says Trump Advocacy for A$AP Rocky 'Needs to End'
Plus: Section 230 saves Facebook from Russian trolls, Trump vetoes Saudi arms bill, and more...

Harris breaks from other Democrats on A$AP Rocky's release. It's not unusual to see senator, former prosecutor, and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris arguing to keep people incarcerated. So it's no surprise that she hasn't joined fellow Democrats in protesting Sweden's questionable detainment of musician A$AP Rocky.
Nor is she simply sitting this one out. Harris apparently sees this as an opportunity to score points against President Donald Trump, who has been fighting for Rocky's release.
The entertainer has been detained in Sweden since July 3, following a physical altercation that he claims was self-defense on his part. "Video of the incident posted to Instagram does show [A$AP Rocky] and his entourage repeatedly telling two men to leave them alone," notes Vice.
Authorities in Stockholm have yet to bring any charges against Rocky and his friends—but they also are declining to let him go, and they reportedly have held him in solitary confinement part of the time. A court hearing to determine next steps is scheduled for today.
In the meantime, everyone from Kim Kardashian and Justin Bieber to members of Congress have been advocating for A$AP Rocky's release. Several Democratic members of the House of Representatives even put out a formal statement expressing concern. "The widely circulated video evidence clearly show that these men were accosted, harassed, and followed, all while maintaining tremendous poise," it says.
"This is not justice and this particular instance sheds light on how men of color, particularly black and brown men, are often detained, targeted and incarcerated despite their innocence, including in European countries," said Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D–N.Y.) at a press conference earlier this month. "We're concerned that there is a deliberate and premeditated attempt from the prosecutor to indict these young men, who were victims themselves, not the aggressors."
But when Harris was asked about A$AP Rocky during an NAACP presidential forum on Wednesday, she had nothing to say about the potential misuse of power by Swedish prosecutors. Instead, she used the opportunity to slam Trump for his advocacy on the musician's behalf.
"There's no question that this White House is, has been playing politics with his role of leadership, and it has to end," Harris responded.
"So you're saying this is another piece on the rap sheet of Donald Trump, this misuse of power in the A$AP Rocky case?" moderator April Ryan followed up.
Harris agreed. Then, asked to speak up, she pivoted away from the actual issue at hand and try for another rah-rah viral clip moment. Mediaite reports:
"Okay. All right, say it loud," Ryan said.
"Yes," Harris said, louder this time, then added with a laugh "And I'm black and I'm proud!"
"Wait say that again, I didn't hear you. What did you say?" Ryan said.
"Say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud!" Harris replied.
"Alright, then," Ryan said.

Hello.
Harris is serious bad news.
She's not black. She's black inside.
This is very telling about Harris. She is against bail pending charges (he's been charged in the last few hours).
She needs to have a sit-down with Ayana Pressley. We don’t need black faces that don’t want to be a black voice.
What an awful comment that was. Pretty much telling black people that there is one right way to be black. If that's not racist, I don't know what is.
This.
They proved Trump's point.
People who went all faux-outrage did so on four people who actually are odious characters.
No sooner he said that we got Tlaib pimping BDS, footage of Ilhan saying white people should be feared along with Pressley's despicable nonsense and of course whatever idiotic drivel comes out of the mouth of that twit from the Bronx.
They're illiberal and they absolutely are anti-American in its current form. That they ever mention the Founding Fathers and values of America is enough to induce vomit.
And that's the simple, plain truth. /stick tongue out.
when people have every opportunity available to them how do politicians stay in power, by dividing people into groups of hate
Kamala Harris really is far more authoritarian than the rest. Good heavens I hope they don't nominate her.
I was hoping Marianne Williamson would win, I think it would be fun to watch her debate Trump. But now I want Harris to win because I want all the lefties who promote the victimhood narrative of women and minorities to defend a black woman that's imprisoned more minorities than Trump could ever dream to. Cognitive dissonance should short circuit most of the beltway fools that got us here.
You give them far to much credit. They will ignore most of her past, and find a way to justify what can’t be ignored.
Yea you right
Problem for them is who do they nominate?
Scratch her off. You have Warren, Sanders and Biden.
The only normal one in Gabbard (maybe Gravel. Heck even Buttegeig is somewhat saner) and they ain't touching her/them.
HUGE deficit of talent and reasonable choices there.
I don't think anyone has ever called Gravel normal before. He's also 90.
As much as there is to dislike about Biden, I suspect he would be least awful as president. Maybe Gabbard too. But she doesn't seem to be getting anywhere.
The primary season next year is really going to suck.
Sorry flagged your post trying to close that stupid video.
I'm so excited to see who the Democrats nominate: A geriatric white dude who imprisoned thousands of people, many of whom were non-violent, or a race-baiting prosecutor who imprisoned thousands of people, many of whom were non-violent.
The latter has celebrity support.
Which goes to show....
Yeah, but Biden has Ukrainian support and I've been hearing how good that part of the world is at electing our presidents.
I wonder who A$AP Rocky will support?
Trump vetoed a bill that would have stopped the U.S. from selling weapons to Saudi Arabia.
Probably not a good idea.
Sen. Ted Cruz is asking the FBI to investigate Antifa as a criminal enterprise.
Probably not a bad idea.
Problem: Antifa isn't organized enough to be an "enterprise" criminal or otherwise.
Neither are Juggalos yet they investigated them.
And all they do is enjoy shitty rap and like shitty soft drinks.
That's a reason why they shouldn't then. And if they to use that same tortured logic then fuck that.
But I'm sure they could get cells that conspire to commit acts of violence and other crimes without assuming everyone at some lefty protest is antifa because they are also present.
Yeah, those people all show up in the same city at the same time in the same uniform shouting the same slogans and using the same tactics by accident.
But the KKK is....
Well, I have seen an "Adopt a Highway" with the local KKK on it, but I have never seen an Antics one.
I guess maybe they're more civic minded as well.
"Russian trolls can't sue Facebook for booting them—thanks, Section 230!"
Good. As Mueller definitively proved, Russia hacked the 2016 election and installed one of its intelligence assets as President. So the least that patriotic tech companies can do is get rid of Russian trolls and bots.
And when a Democrat is back in the White House, we'll respond to Russian aggression in a much more forceful manner.
#LibertariansForGettingToughWithRussia
And when a Democrat is back in the White House, we’ll respond to Russian aggression in a much more forceful manner.
But that Democrat will have more flexibility after getting reelected, amirite?
Ugh, are you seizing on out-of-context quotes Obama made in 2012?
The fact is, Obama's position with respect to Russia was 100% correct based on what was known. He is the greatest President ever, but he doesn't have a time machine. He could not have predicted what Putin would do in 2016.
#LibertariansForObama
#StopMakingFunOfHis1980sAreCallingQuote
Freddy Pounces!
actually Obama did know what Putin was doing but all Obama felt like doing was telling Putin to Stop. For some reason the media lambasted Trump when he mockingly referenced Obama when he told Putin the same thing, only Trump had the Balls to do it to his face in front of the media.
I know OBL is a sarcastic commenter but I think some do take him seriously
I thought DEVGRU took out Osama Bin Laden???
"So you're saying this is another piece on the rap sheet of Donald Trump, this misuse of power in the A$AP Rocky case?" moderator April Ryan followed up."
So you're saying *you* are using this for some grandstanding?
Gee, I wonder why she didn't get asked that question.
So, April Ryan ALSO opposes the President trying to help an America get freed if he is black?
Is this April Ryan or the reincarnated corpse of Woodrow Wilson?
More bad economic news.

men of color, particularly black and brown men
As to what? Red and purple? We know what "people of color" means. This trend of clarifying "black and brown" is annoying.
You have something against the red man, paleface?
Not Asians.
It's to exclude Asians. Can't have them confusing people by suggesting that there's some nuance in American race relations.
"The Baltimore Sun is apparently under the impression that libertarians want children-accessible vending machines to be stocked with "oxycodone, packs of Camels and cans of Miller Lite.""
Miller Lite!? Screw that, we want some 22oz Colt 45s in there.
Whoa there Skippy! I dunno about yours, but my orphans cannot hold their liquor, and are worthless after a single can. Stick with the Miller Lite please.
Maybe in slack-jawed towns. In modern and successful America, most young people want Dogfish Head, Bell’s, Troegs, Sierra Nevada, New Belgium, Stone, etc.
...and getting hit on by women in Cambridge bookstores.
Yeh. You're a model of good taste I bet.
I guess NYC isn't modern, successful America. Too many people drink Pabst Blue Ribbon beer.
This proves how old and put of touch Kirkland is those IPAs were popular 15 years ago. Young people are preferring local breweries you doddering ignorant fool.
How dare you argue against his superior education you uneducated bigot.
This proves how old and put of touch Kirkland is those IPAs were popular 15 years ago
IPAs used to be popular? Just goes to show things are better here in the future.
If kids are drinking those beers they are getting to much allowence
Fuckin' LOL at your dumb hicklib ass becoming the "how do you do, fellow kids?" meme.
If you measure "success" by the extent to which people are cowed into following the herd and don't even consider making their own choices, sure.
Ridiculous! Obviously we want the vending machines stocked with semi-automatic rifles, ammo, magazines, and copies of Atlas Shrugged.
And monocles. Oh, and orphans.
Discount the semi-autos and the orphan shortage will take care of itself
Authorities in Stockholm have yet to bring any charges against Rocky and his friends—but they also are declining to let him go, and they reportedly have held him in solitary confinement part of the time.
A$AP Rocky charged with assault after Stockholm brawl
According to Communist News Network, he was charged with assault.
I do believe that Trump was requesting bail release for A$AP not dropping of any future charges.
The State Department requests release of Americans abroad as a common practice, so Trump doing this is not unheard of. Its also not like Obama chiming in with the Travon Martin/Zimmermann case.
I just find it amazing that libertarians aren't happy to see a President working to get a black guy released from jail on sketchy charges. I guess prison isn't SO bad because, you know, O.M.B
The Baltimore Sun is apparently under the impression that libertarians want children-accessible vending machines to be stocked with "oxycodone, packs of Camels and cans of Miller Lite.
Nevermind the fact that all of these and more are readily available to teenagers NOW.
Yesterday's hearings could not possibly have gone better for #TheResistance. Mueller and the Democrats made the case for impeachment stronger than ever. Here's legendary journalist Dan Rather's analysis:
This exchange between Schiff and Mueller, just the facts, are a damning indictment. That these facts are known should not minimize how serious they are. The press now has another chance to frame this story correctly.

So...Sweden can imprison people not only without bail, but without charge?
Has the European Court of Human RIghts heard about this?
They can also charge Americans with assault because TDS, even with a video that seems to show some Swedes throwing the first punch.
I don't know if he's guilty or not, but it seems Sweden is on the cutting edge of Bail Reform. Maybe the ACLU should adopt their system.
Well, in their defense, the punch was thrown by a modern Swede. Toddlers have more dangerous punching.
You figure other countries should be interested in pointers from the enthusiastic proprietor of Guantanamo?
Good luck with your other expectations and preferences.
I wasn't aware that rappers were waging a terrorist campaign against Sweden. I was under the impression that this A$AP guy was a peacetime defendant, not caught up in the controversy of how to deal with alleged enemy combatants.
But I'm sure Sweden gives individualized, full-dress civilian trials to everyone arrested in one of its wars as a Prisoner of War.
Even by your pathetic standards today has been a disaster Artie. Maybe sit the rest of this one out.
Federal court blocks Trump asylum rules hours after judge ruled to keep restrictions in place
So here's how much of a joke Lefty Federal District Court judges are. A Federal District Court judge for the DC District allowed the asylum ban to continue then a District Court judge in California blocked the asylum ban.
The Lefty CA District Court judge thinks his/her decision should trump the same level judge from DC.
This is why ignoring these district court judges thinking their districts cover the entire USA is so important. Then let a federal circuit decide.
Not only that, but the d.c. circuit is the correct circuit to hear rules implementation like this suit is

All Democrats are terrible people. It's Science.
I am pretty sure that the federal government advocating on behalf of an American being abused by a foreign government is within its authority. I am not how Harris thinks Trump is abusing his power in this instance.
Trump sticking up for a black American while the Swedish government is accused of racism is a twist I did not see coming.
Haven't we heard, for days, that Trump is a racist?
Is advocating for a rapper's release more evidence of this?
Because there's nothing that Harris loves than a black man in jail.
It's the only way to keep them submissive so she can have her way with them.
You know we’re in strange times when the clingers are arguing against abuse (real or imagined) of a black guy.
It must be unpleasant for you to have your paradigm shifted without a clutch.
Trump has no power in the Swedish justice system. So how is he going to abuse it?
Shhh. The Germans are attacking Pearl Harbour.
Let the little shit wallow in his delusions. It's rather entertaining.
Ask Harris, I am just as confused by what she is saying as you are.
April Ryan proffered that it was 'abuse'
I hope A$AP and his friends pay close attention to who wanted him left in jail
"Nor is she simply sitting this one out. Harris apparently sees this as an opportunity to score points against President Donald Trump, who has been fighting for Rocky's release."
Trump --- worst white supremacist ever.
The soft bigotry of low expectations - he thinks people charged with assault should have the right to bail. What a chum, amirite?
The Baltimore Sun is apparently under the impression that libertarians want children-accessible vending machines to be stocked with "oxycodone, packs of Camels and cans of Miller Lite."
That's ridiculous. The vending machines should have only good beer.
Beer? Heck with that, they should dispense Jack Daniels.
Maybe outside of Walmart's. Get better whiskey.
Forget it, Jesse. It's a vending machine.
A year ago, The Baltimore Sun was also under the impression that the Republicans in Washington are the slaves of the Koch Brothers and do whatever the Kochs tell them to do.
Which is why the Republicans currently in Washington oppose tariff increases and trade wars, support free trade, are reducing deficits, are liberalizing immigration laws, support asylum, oppose deportation, support free speech without reservation across the board...
How about child vending machines?
You'd need to keep the machines out of the sun so the children don't wilt too fast.
children-accessible vending machines to be stocked with packs of Camels
Wait, are their any cigarette vending machines left in the country? I haven't seen one in a while. I know it was one of my go-to sources of cigs when I was in high school.
Yeah. There's one in a local bar here in Fernandina Beach. After inserting your $7 for a pack, you have to wait for the bartender to push a button before the cigarettes are dispensed. In theory, he/she could ask for ID.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/customers-outraged-after-forever-21-included-diet-bars-in-their-clothing-orders/
Good for her for losing weight, bad for her for having bad faith in free promotional items.
Maybe they sent free food to get her back up to a size 21. They are Forever 21 after all.
I was thrilled last year when the Supreme Court ruled in Janus v. AFSCME that non-union members working in the public sector couldn't be compelled to pay union dues. It was the right decision, but it only appears to apply to public sector workers and the decision only seems to be about their freedom of speech--rather than speak directly to their freedom of association. In other words, the government can't compel their own non-union, government workers to finance the union's political advertising. That's all great, and everything, but it doesn't do anything for us in a case like this:
"U.S. senators are gearing up for a battle over how to fix the pensions of about 1.3 million retirees and workers in trucking, mining and other industries.
These workers are covered by what are known as multiemployer pension funds, which are maintained under collective-bargaining agreements between a union and several different employers. The plans in the worst financial condition are short an estimated $100 billion to pay out retirees.
Late Wednesday, the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives approved a $48.5 billion package that offers forgivable loans to the most troubled plans. "
https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-plan-to-save-truckers-and-miners-pensions-is-running-out-of-time-11564053282?
So, to put it succinctly, these unions were able to squeeze pension demands out of various mining and trucking firms that those mining and trucking firms couldn't cover--so to cover those union pension obligations now, the Democrats in the House have decided to make Ken Shultz and the taxpayers pay.
I'd rather eat mud than join a union. Why am I covering their pension obligations? This is socialist to the core. The appropriate solution to this problem isn't to make Ken Shultz and the taxpayers cover pension obligations that never should have seen the light of day in the first place. Does the term "moral hazard" mean nothing anymore? The appropriate solution is for the unions that negotiated those pensions to be decertified.
The next time you see one of these scumbag union types claim that the world would be a better place if only it weren't for international trade--because then we'd be forced to pay through the nose to cover their ridiculous pensions--remember that international trade isn't the only means they have to suck the blood out of your back. There's Congress, too!
And make no mistake--these unions and their members are blood-sucking, socialist parasites. Companies go bankrupt in the private sector and leave employees, suppliers, and customers high and dry all the time. If a union's demands are so egregious that they destroyed their host, the solution isn't to let them suck on the taxpayers' backs. The union should go through bankruptcy proceedings like everyone else--and then be decertified.
I just read the same WSJ piece, and I think the ultimate logic rests (as it often does) on the "I was too stupid" defense. The company reps were too stupid to see how believing unrealistic investment predictions might not work, the investment consultants were too stupid to see how markets would do anything but increase at the highest range of predictions, the union reps were too stupid to see how promised benefits would exceed pension fund contributions (and investment returns), and the union members were too stupid to see how their elected reps were just lying.
And in the great human tradition, if someone is proven too stupid, then others have to step in and make things better. (A human behavior learned by almost every child, but not unlearned by most adults.)
Amen, brother!
Defined benefit pensions are just a bad idea in general.

Profiling is evil unless it is white men. Make no mistake, if you are a white male, the Democratic party hates you.
Yeah. That's something. Is that supposed to be some kind of turnaround on people working to stop young Muslims from radicalizing?
I thought cancer and heart disease caused most of the deaths in the country.
Perhaps the correct solution is to abolish racial profiling entirely. Gee what a thought.
Do you intentionally try to miss every point or are you just that dumb?
Fine, have it your way.
The Democratic Party hates white men because Ilhan Omar wants to profile white men.
Then I suppose by your logic, the Republican Party hates Muslims because Trump wants to profile Muslims.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/face-the-nation-transcripts-june-19-2016-trump-lynch-lapierre-feinstein/
Both points are true. Except Trump, representing the white people, has been trying to create a place without muslims, while Omar, representing the muslims, was desperate to get into the majority white people country, leaving an area that is majority muslims
Oh, and one of those people talks shit on said majority white country, while the other constantly calls it an evil awful place.
Side note: you can be a white muslim, not sure what they're supposed to think...
"Oh, and one of those people talks shit on said majority white country, while the other constantly calls it an evil awful place"
Freudian slip?
No, they hate white men because Omar wants to profile white men and doesn't get any pushback on it. So, it is fair to say they do as well.
And perhaps Republicans don't like Muslims. You and every other Democrat claims they do. Thanks for making my point for me.
Or they are terrified of being called racist if they call her out. Woke posturing is a powerful force these days.
But I agree that it's a bad thing (for the Democrats and possibly for the country if the crazies ever get any power) that Democrats aren't doing anything about the crazies in their party. Much of what Omar and others say is outside of what should be acceptable politics.
Didn't John Stewart go to Congress to lobby for money to compensate people for injuries caused by Muslims?
Not that I'm a believer in the generalization fallacy, but since it's now the core of the anti-Trump crowd, I figured I would run with it.
Or guilt by association.
There must be a way to blame 9-11 on Trump.
Some of these people seem hell bent on trying to create the very world they claim to be against. They are trying radicalize and create a monolithic white coalition. Seems like they want it as much if not more than the most ardent white supremacist. Their politics are very similar.
The logic of racial profiling dictates that white men SHOULD be profiled for right-wing radicalization, since most instances of right-wing terrorism are committed by white men.
If John doesn't like that result, then good - he shouldn't like it, nor should anyone. Racial profiling is wrong, and Ilhan Omar's comments are just illustrating that one more time.
f John doesn’t like that result, then good – he shouldn’t like it, nor should anyone. Racial profiling is wrong, and Ilhan Omar’s comments are just illustrating that one more time.
God you are fucking moron. If you think it is so wrong, you need to leave the Democratic Party because no one in the party has said word one about this. She has received no criticism about this. Omar is who you are dipshit.
One other thing, Islam is a religion not a race. You assume it is a race because you are ignorant and racist
Prediction: Because of all the backlash, she's going to stop talking about the Jews and coincidentally start talking about "white men" in the same way.
"Jews are evil and they must be stopped!"
Democrats: shhh!
"White men are evil and they must be stopped!"
Democrats: *applause*
A lot of Muslims are white men, so ...
Eh, nothing a little math wouldn't solve.
That's like comparing bees to sharks. Bees cause more deaths each year. There's a lot more of them, and in close proximity to us. But are you more afraid of a bee than a shark? Which should you be more afraid of getting close to?

"The Baltimore Sun is apparently under the impression that libertarians want children-accessible vending machines to be stocked with "oxycodone, packs of Camels and cans of Miller Lite."
Where's the lie? I've been called a slaver for suggesting you shouldn't let kids gamble online, and most Reason articles about drugs, cigarettes and booze are about more freedom, not less.
Depends on which libertarian. There is a pretty good debate about the rights of children among libertarians and not much of a consensus. I suppose purists wouldn't ban such a machine, but to say they want it is probably a stretch.
Libertarians hardly think alike, which would probably be ENB's beef with the article. But if there's one group of people who think long and hard about these topics, its libertarians.
The Baltimore Suns take does not seem far off.
Yeah, that is where a strict application of libertarian principle gets you. And ENB isn't that kind of libertarian.
The difference is between "what parents ought to do as good parents", and "what the state ought to do to force parents to be good parents".
I don't think anyone really opposes parents telling their kids not to do 'bad things'. The problem arises when the state wants to take on the role of parent.
And my response, like last time, was that I could target children with ads for candy heroin and make a ton of money. And no one hear liked that idea. And then I turned it around and called you all slavers.
And here we are again.
I’ve been called a slaver for suggesting you shouldn’t let kids gamble online
And you're correct! Parents shouldn't let their kids gamble, period. Oh, you mean you want the nanny state to get involved in parenting? Fuck off slaver.
Hmmm. I'm imagining a world with ATF/DEA vending machines, vs. a world with no drug warrior.
Yeah, I'm going to go with the vending machines. Beats the gulag archipelago we call "justice".
I imagine a world where I sell your kids drugs online and you just have to suck it up and deal with the consequences while I get rich.
Oh right, one more thing... when you try to sue me I laugh because what I did is legal and then I call you a slaver.
Ba dum chhhhh
We live in a world right now where kids are thrown in jail for carrying around unapproved plants, starting a life that probably won't turn out peachy keen.
I know, right? fucking slavers. And they won't even let me put my heroin smoothie commercials online... so fucked up.
"fucking slavers."
Well, when they throw people in cages for possessing unapproved plants, and their prison labor is for a fraction of what they would expect on the market, with no negotiating power, or ability to spend it freely, and it's all enforced by threats of violence...
That world already exists. How can you be so confused?
You sure about that? I'm pretty sure you can't sell heroin online...
There's not a single teenager in America who wants to do some drug and can't get it. What planet are you living on?
Oh no, we're talking 8, 9, 10. Old enough to use devices, not old enough to know what drugs even are. Well, they're going to learn, I've got a bevy of info online detailing how tasty my heroin smoothies are. But don't worry, every parent is an upstanding attentive parent, surely I wouldn't be able to sell anything like that.
Fuck off slavers
the usual drug hysteria.
"Russian trolls can't sue Facebook for booting them—thanks, Section 230!"
I strongly support Section 230, but this is not an excellent example of why we should support Section 230.
The excellent reason to support Section 230 is because of what would happen to free speech everywhere online if third parties were inundated with lawsuits over the nature of content written by other people.
This high-five is a bit like repealing the Sixth Amendment and then pointing to the fact that the next mass shooter never gets a trial as an excellent example of why we should be glad no one gets a trial now that the Sixth Amendment is gone.
Section 230 isn't about denying people a hearing because they're trolls. Section 230 is about protecting third parties from frivolous lawsuits --because third parties cannot possibly be legally responsible for content that they did not write.
As long as we agree some arbitrary person gets to set the definition of russian troll... right? Fuck off.

The one about Scott Brown winning the election over Coakley was good.
Yesterday, I mentioned that Trump's new asylum rules, that require asylum seekers to apply for asylum in the first safe country they set foot in, were refused an injunction by federal court in Washington. I also mentioned that there was another case that was to be heard later, yesterday, and that Trump's rules--sans a Safe Third Country agreement--were unlikely to survive the scrutiny of the courts. Predictably, the California judge in the second case slapped Trump's rules with an injunction. Now that there are two opposing rulings on the same issue from two different district courts, the case will head to the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court is like a box of chocolates: You never know when you're gonna get a "penaltax" or a Kelo. That being said, I wouldn't expect Trump's rules to survive the scrutiny of the Court. I want to see those rules implemented as a function of treaties we've ratified and the constitutional laws that have been enacted, but according to all that, you need a Safe Third Country agreement.

P.S. I keep seeing the left claim that Safe Third Country agreements with Guatemala and Mexico are unconstitutional because those countries aren't really safe, but this argument should only be persuasive to ignorant people. Asylum is for people who are escaping persecution. If the government of Honduras is trying to kill you because you criticized their president, are you safe from being arrested for that in Guatemala or Mexico? That's the question. The question isn't about the crime rate or the chances of amoebic dysentery if you drink water out of the tap. Read a book and get a clue.
Yeah, asylum isn't supposed to be a ticket to a new life in a nicer country. It's supposed to protect people from immediate and serious danger.
And not even that, it is meant to protect people from immediate and serious danger *from their governments* due to either their ethnic/religious/racial identity OR to non-violent political activities. Not because their country is having a civil war or because they live in a territory controlled by gangs/warlords or because they can't find a job.
Knowing Epstein, he was probably involved in an auto-erotic mishap.
I blame the Clintons. It's Vince Foster all over again.
Mueller hearing yesterday was a huge reminder that the USA is 3 years into a widespread POTUS coup attempt.
It is the only interesting and important part of of the saga, and is completely ignored by the libertarian herald known as REASON.
"everyone from Kim Kardashian and Justin Bieber to members of Congress"
I'm not seeing a big gap of coverage there. "everyone from attention whore to attention whore to attention whore'. You might want to work on your descriptive phrases.
> "Say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud!" Harris replied.
It's one thing for a Whitey with one drop of Black blood to call themselves Black. Because being White don't count. But Harris is 50% Indian. She has some small amount of Black heritage, on her Jamaican side, but she's mostly Indian. She's a person of color but that color is not black.
"Say it loud, I'm High Caste and proud!" doesn't have quite the same ring to it.
Harris is 50% Indian
Barrack Obama is 50% white.
Yes, but as I side, white don't count.
The Baltimore Sun is apparently under the impression that libertarians want children-accessible vending machines to be stocked with "oxycodone, packs of Camels and cans of Miller Lite."
Libertarians don't care.
Tulsi Gabbard is suing Google for freezing her ad account after the first debate.
Good for her. Are we still going to pretend Google isn't a problem for our elections, but Russia is?
even douchey hipsters know better than to mention some of his choices, New Belgium? Really?? They were overrated like 8 years ago, now they're just a sad shadow of their former selves.
Well, the great thing is, in a libertarian world, you can both have your own vending machines, and the market will decide which brand of beer the children prefer.
Embellishing? That literally happened. I think it was you haha.
Overrated AND now passe and over-the-hill?
Damn
There wasn't much of an internet 1996, that's for sure. Netscape didn't go public until 1995, and, circa 1996, most internet users still thought that the entirety of the internet was contained within AOL's website.
And, yeah, Section 230 meant that the same standards would be in place as have always been there. Print media and broadcasters can not be legally responsible for content that they didn't print or broadcast either.
And for 8 years the seas stopped rising. "Chocolate Jesus" was not an exaggeration.
Pretty sure that’s what got him the Nobel
Yes, the creation of a new form of media that allowed third parties to create content on other people's platforms necessitated clarification that the standards haven't changed.
And there's no good reason why the standards should change. Certainly not just because people hate Mark Zuckerberg and want to destroy his company by either forcing them to moderate every post beforehand in real time or never take anything down.
Section 230 is as it should be.
It's like gun rights. Yeah, mass shooters at schools, armed robbers, and violent gangbangers use guns to do all sorts of terrible things. Some people might even hate them more than Zuckerberg! That's not a good reason to ban guns or make rules that effect people who aren't mass shooters, aren't armed robbers, aren't violent gangbangers, or aren't Mark Zuckerberg.
The Fifth Amendment is used by all sorts of terrible people to escape conviction for crimes they've committed, but that's not a good enough reason to get rid of it. It's also used by innocent people to protect their rights. It's also a necessary precondition for justice.
Instead of trying to find new ways to undermine free speech online and various forums for it--many of which, like Reason's, have nothing to do with Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube--I suggest you go after Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube specifically. You can start by denying them your participation in their businesses. You can start using competing platforms and invite all your friends and family who use social media to join you on that competing platform instead. This might be a good place to start:

Trying to make me responsible for what third parties say on my site, however, isn't the solution to any problems associated with Facebook, Google, Patreon, Paypal, or Twitter. Actually, they all seem to be begging for exactly the kind of intrusions you seem to wanting--because it would hurt their less established competitors.
Injustice is rarely the best solution to anything--unless you're one of those who just wants to watch the world burn.
Dont tell baby Jeffrey about world wide polling of muslims who support terrorism in general. It was over 15% last time it was done, so just 150 million global muslims. But baby jeffrey will continue to be scared of the under 300 current KKK members on the US instead.
One was a hoax.
Overrated is a much better place to be than passe....they wish they were still overrated
All I know is that any time you try to stop me using the government that makes you a slaver. That's what you taught me.
Targetting kids with algorithms to get them to gamble online? You're fine with that. So why not drugs you fucking slaver?
Yes, you parent well therefore every parent is attentive to what their kids do on the internet and now Ryan can sell his heroin smoothies. Thank you for supporting my small business.
