Trump Is Hosting a Very Weird Social Media Summit at the White House
Plus: Air-launched rockets, the GOP becomes the party of Trump, and Pelosi feuds with AOC.

Our very online president is hosting a very online social media summit at the White House today.
There's no public guest list, but such pro-Trump online personalities as Bill Mitchell and an anonymous person who goes by the handle "CarpeDonktum" have announced that they will be attending. More conventional right-of-center groups such as TurningPoint USA and the Heritage Foundation will reportedly be there too, as well such Trump-friendly politicians as Rep. Matt Gaetz (R–Fla.) and Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R–Tenn.).
Every president is trailed by a cast of eclectic characters, some of them odder than others, but typically the strangest are kept at arm's length. And as The Daily Beast reports, some of the fringiest Trump-era personalities weren't invited. Still, the guest list shows how the internet has changed political influence in recent years, allowing weirder and less mainstream voices to stand out, an effect that has probably been exaggerated by the particular quirks of President Donald Trump.
One topic expected to come up is online bias against conservatives.
https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1149279675660869632
This is at least a little odd, given how well conservative media is doing on social media these days.
Yesterday, Axios reported that right-leaning media outfits dominated news coverage following the first Democratic primary debates, with sites such as Fox News, Breitbart, The Blaze, and The Daily Wire publishing many of the stories that generated the most shares, likes, and interactions. For former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Kamala Harris (D–Calif.), Sen. Cory Booker (D–N.J.), and former Obama Housing Sec. Julián Castro, the most-engaged-with story came from a conservative site. Whatever else may be happening on social media platforms, these outlets and their stories haven't been suppressed.
This morning, Trump bragged about "hosting a very big and very important Social Media Summit today," even while insisting that he would probably have become president without social media. His choice of venue for the remark was typical, but still telling: He said it on Twitter.
The White House will be hosting a very big and very important Social Media Summit today. Would I have become President without Social Media? Yes (probably)! At its conclusion, we will all go to the beautiful Rose Garden for a News Conference on the Census and Citizenship.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 11, 2019
The question of whether social media platforms are actively discriminating against conservative figures will probably go unanswered today by the organizations most in the position to really know: Facebook and Twitter reportedly won't be at the event. (In the past, major social media companies have denied any direct bias against conservatives.) Like so much Trump-era politics, this is a party for the president and the strange collection of figures who adore him.

How did Republicans, initially wary of President Trump, come to embrace an outsider president? A new book—American Carnage, by Politico reporter Tim Alberta—tells all. Via The Washington Post:
The book is filled with vivid details and on-the-record quotes from prominent Republican officials and includes an interview with Trump, who gleefully takes credit for the GOP's shift while standing over the Oval Office desk and waving a poll that shows his approval numbers as soaring from his State of the Union.
"Can there be a question?" Trump says, smirking, when asked by Alberta if he is transitional or transformational. "Honestly, can there even be a question?"
"The tea party still exists—except now it's called Make America Great Again….The Republican Party was in big trouble. I brought the party back. The Republican Party is strong. The Republican Party is strong," he says, before pausing, according to the book. "They've got to remain faithful. And loyal."

Private space company Virgin Galactic has successfully launched a rocket dropped from a modified 747. Via Wired:
The advantages of an air-launch system have been known for decades, but only recently has the space industry started to show interest in the concept. The exception is Orbital ATK, which became the first company to use an air-launched rocket to deliver a satellite to orbit, in 1990, and continues to use that system to this day. The last decade has seen a resurgence of interest in the concept, attracting new space companies like Stratolaunch, XCOR, and Generation Orbit, as well as old guard contractors like Boeing and Lockheed Martin. Even SpaceX briefly flirted with the idea of an air-launch system for a modified Falcon 9 rocket before abandoning the project in 2012. But among the new guard, only Virgin has brought its air-launch system to fruition.

Suderman??? How the mighty have fallen.
These sex links suck
But the picture is great. Look how bored Trump is getting to third base.
Suderman's regular "Honest, I sympathize with all the establishment right think and censorship, and I refute the Trump and all his works. Please don't unperson me just because I work with Robbie." column.
For instance, Suderman tries to insinuate that because Twitter hasn't shut down the account of the President of the United States of America, that they aren't targeting conservatives in general.
Mind-blowingly lazy demagoguery.
Joe Biden, the nominal frontrunner for the Democratic primary nomination, is feeling pressure to campaign more aggressively.
"Our top campaign advisor suggests we stop being so sleepy."
Before his dad's death, Ross Perot's son donated to Trump's re-election campaign.
Can he finish? Can he finish?
Problem solved.
Before his dad's death, Ross Perot's son donated to Trump's re-election campaign.
Does that mean I can’t go to the funeral?

I didn’t like the food they served, but Suzy said it was good.
A big subject today at the White House Social Media Summit will be the tremendous dishonesty, bias, discrimination and suppression practiced by certain companies.
Don't be so coy, Mr. President. Name names!
The President announced his summit about censorship of conservatives on Twitter. Didn't you know that the President is Republican? If he was allowed to announce on Twitter, there must be no censorship at all!
We have prices on medical insurance in the U.S. Didn't you know that prices indicate a free market? The U.S. healthcare insurance system is clearly a free market!
Like so much Trump-era politics, this is a party for the president and the strange collection of figures who adore him.
Tim Pool was invited and he doesn't even support Trump.
The question of whether social media platforms are actively discriminating against conservative figures will probably go unanswered today
Suderman thinks that it is a question, a big mystery, or perhaps just a wacky conspiracy theory
Poop said last week he understood why Democrats would vote for trump. hes a heretic now.
And given the behavior of the "real" press, he should replace them. When social media types are more professional than "reporters", you have a major reason why the media is held in such low regard.
Nice seeing Jim Acosta, as the media is wont to do, sending out wildly manipulative videos.
Haim Saban, a billionaire who gives lots of money to Democratic politicians, likes everyone in the primary except Bernie Sanders...
Painting himself into an uncomfortable corner when Sanders gets the nod.
You know who else painted him or herself into a corner?

First rule of infight club.
Tell AOC to never side against the family in public again.
That's really what it is. Consider Pelosi's comments about Schumer not being able to keep his people in line regarding the passage of the money for the boarder in the Senate. It's as if once elected you are no longer beholden to your constituents, you are beholden to the party.
Is it possible to get a "Fredo" meme going that AOC will never understand?
Nintendo announced the Switch Lite, a new, handheld-only version...
So stop putting it in your pants.
Don't forget that Nintendo is now ruled by Bowser. True story.
"Haim Saban, a billionaire who gives lots of money to Democratic politicians, likes everyone in the primary except Bernie Sanders, who he called 'a communist under the cover of being a socialist.'"
"Communist" is a bit strong. But it's true that Bernie Sanders' biggest weakness is his tendency to criticize billionaires. I still haven't completely forgiven him for saying "Open borders is a Koch Brothers plot to import cheap labor and depress wages." I mean, that's just preposterous.
#BillionairesKnowBest
So what's your take on Epstein? Since he is not a billionaire?
Regardless of Epstein's net worth, his legal troubles signal a tipping point for Drumpf. The walls are closing in. It's the beginning of the end.
True, the end of Trump’s first term is coming.
Pro use of "tipping point". Occasionally, you still got it.
The tipping point towards Trump’s second term
Louisiana braces for slow-moving possible weekend hurricane
Dollars to doughnuts that Trump gets blamed for flooding.
There fucking people move back into a flood zone that was shown to be super dangerous in 2005. I just don't have any sympathy for them. They are retarded.
Heh, I saw on Derpbook where people were blaming Trump for the California earthquakes.
Screenshots or it didn't happen. 'cause that's a level of retardation I just can't believe exists.
Of course, there's Tony for a counter example.
LOL I'm too lazy for that. The posters seemed to be trying to tie it to global warming somehow. I don't recall hearing that global warming causes earthquakes but it seems to cause damn near everything else.
As the planet heats it expands. Duh!!!
Maybe fracking?
It's occurred to me that if we've passed the tipping point on AGW, then we need to stop the babbling bullshit about carbon trading and electric cars, and immediately start working on mitigating the damage. We need to ban any development along the seashore, start moving however many people we can away from the seashore, and build dikes and barriers around everything we can't move inland.
And yet, I don't see this happening. Hell, Oregon is trying to remove a law banning building in the tsunami inundation zone. They are going to allow the building of schools in an area guaranteed to be wiped out by a tsunami. And they're not even desperate clingers in flyover country (most of which is safe from rising sea levels...)
I don't get it.
IF you understand that AGW is a gigantic fraud perpetrated to justify central control of the economy, it all makes perfect sense.
It's not, though. Most of the proponents are true believers.
Just because the fraud has a mark doesn't mean it isn't a fraud.
Indeed. Andrew Fastow truly thought Enron was making money.
Being a mark doesn't make the crime less of a crime.
If by 'true believers' you refer to their belief that government imposed solutions are the best solutions to any problem then yes, you are correct in your assessment.

evidence of an empty rant. Nice use of Oregon tsunami terror, though.
Seems like a reasonable observation that people are not behaving as if they really believe in the worse predictions about global warming.
"people" is also a flag.
BTW, have you seen the "worse predictions about global warming" lately?
The best way to mitigate the damage is to cut back on the number progtards polluting our country. The key is to reducing the progtarded population to a more manageable number, say a few hundred thousand.
Marvel Studios is set to finally start revealing its next slate of superhero movies.

Good thing Obama's pallets of cash got us peace with Persia.

A lot of libertarians are counter tribalist. Like the progressives.
Private space company Virgin Galactic has successfully launched a rocket dropped from a modified 747.
Chemtrails 2.0.
So Trump invites the people who are claiming to have been discriminated against to an event in the White House to examine that discrimination. Weird. How could he want to do that and not just take the social media company's word?
Maybe reaching for something negative and snarky to say about Trump and his loathed supporters isn't the best idea. Just saying.
Reason's blurb also tries to insinuate that, since Trump can use Twitter to publicize the event, there is no censorship of conservatives. If I were a censor that wanted to convince people that I was not censoring, I wouldn't try to shut down the Twitter account of the fucking POTUS.
Dishonest. It's so dishonest.
Suderman is the most dishonest reason writer. Dalmia is the craziest but she honestly believes the stuff she writes. Suderman likely doesn't believe in anything or has forgotten what it was if he ever did.
You don't think Suderman believes that AOC makes great cocktails? How dare you.
Suderman has a lot of pressure from his wife who could kick his ass and his cocktail buddies who could smear him out of progressive existence.
that being said, kudos to him for being honest about healthcare
Yeah, Subhumanman is a one trick pony.
Suderman isn't dishonest he's a amenable "technocrat" who believes in hierarchy, incrementalism and credentialism.
True but very ironic given the fact that neither Suderman nor his wife have any actual credentials.
His wife is far smarter than him. And a much more interesting thinker, although that's not saying much.
"believes in hierarchy, incrementalism and credentialism."
This. He's a textbook progressive.
As is the comments about how the big-name conservative news isn't impacted. As has been repeatedly pointed out by those actually impacted, this is not just discrimination against conservatives but against non-mainstream or smaller news sources (the vast bulk of whom tend to be conservative).
Mind you, this same site bitched RELENTLESSLY when Gary Johnson did not qualify for the 2016 debates. And those requirements were known WELL in advance.

Its a mystery. No one knows. Some suspect Satan.
Wait. What?

yes. Who do you think killed the Tsar and his ministers while Anastasia screamed in vain?

It was Oswald and Sirhan.
pleased to meet you
Him being popular among Republicans and being the first Republican since Reagan to actually deliver on his campaign promises has nothing to do with it. It is just a mystery. More strange magic powers by the bad orange man I guess.
That and Trump's strategies for success are 100% random.
If somebody could just trick Melania into cutting that orange hair off he would be shorn of his powers!
Its the magic toupee.
No toupee looks that bad.
And that's the best part - the guy's vanity actually prevents him from using one and probably looking better for it.
Frankly I think it is one of the reasons the nomenklatura find him so unacceptable. Couth being a higher consideration among their ilk.
he would probably look like a James bond bad guy with a shaved head. i think he should do it right after he wins the next election. it would be hilarious

Yes and change his name to Pullmyfinger.
I like to believe that When Trump beat The Hag, at least one vile progtard offed themself.
As somebody pointed out, he was, at BEST, a moderate on social issues yet has done more for social conservatives than the "true believer" Bush family. He's done more for conservatives and libertarians than any other President since Coolidge.

Precisely. Once the progressive / libertarian alliance has permanently defeated the alt-right white nationalists, then we can debate our differences on economic issues. But for now, it's #ImmigrationAboveAll.

I doubt I'll read anything stranger than that today.
Trump holds a conference for conservatives who've been discriminated against by social media, and Suderman says that one of the topics these strange people might discuss is bias against them in social media?
To take Suderman earnestly, here, you'd have to assume that he's retarded. I don't suppose Suderman read Soave's post earlier this morning about Google inflicting political correctness on the world, but citing that obliviousness isn't even necessary to see what's going on here. If Suderman isn't retarded, not understanding what this meeting is about or why certainly makes him a laughing stock.
Maybe he's really earnest! In that case, i he's hurting the cause of free speech by throwing his own intellectual honesty under the bus, and it's probably because he doesn't give a shit about free speech, persuasion, or how he might translate those things into public policy with a libertarian microphone. Is there a better explanation? If that's the case, then I guess he really is a special kind of retard.
"Weirder" voices? Is he saying this is a bad thing?
Well, obviously, we shouldn't take people with views that are outside the mainstream seriously. Because being a libertarian is so mainstream, I guess?!
When far left voices are given amplification it is diversity
When opponents or targets of far left voices are given amplification it weird.
I always figure weird is at least interesting and often good.
And it is true that presidents have generally kept their more far out supporters at arms length.
To take Suderman earnestly, here, you’d have to assume that he’s retarded.
Like most journalists in Washington he likely is somewhere on the Autism scale. I doubt, however, he is this stupid.
The more I read, I'm not so sure
" If Suderman isn’t retarded, not understanding what this meeting is about or why certainly makes him a laughing stock."
I don't find any bit of this article out of character for Suderman.
Of course, it just might be 30 years in the healthcare industry has given me a slightly different perspective of him and his rhetorical style. The lack of intellectual honesty displayed in his commentaries on Obamacare being entirely of a piece.
RC Dean felt the same way. I believe he's the staff attorney for a major hospital group.
I worked reimbursement in an acute care hospital for years and then was the QA Analyst for the division of a software company that writes the groupers, payer, billing, etc. software for some of the biggest hospitals and hospital chains in the country.
You've been working in healthcare for 30 years, and you think Suderman is full of shit, too?
What do the three of us know? Suderman's got "experts".
Yeah, my experience has been more front line to departmental management and back again. But I think that has also given me a better understanding of what it all means to the consumer.
Suderman strikes me as less full of shit and more as systematically dishonest.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are feuding, with Pelosi telling House liberals not to tweet about disagreements within the party.
Don't stop there, you forgot to mention that Lt. Horseteeth was bitching that Pelosi was "singling out newly elected women of color." Take note, folks, criticizing PeeOhSees for anything is racist, even if they're genuinely acting like retards.
The fact that a certain person says someone is racist does not make it so. It is the same as when that certain person says the world will end in 10 or 12 or some other number of years.
That is, demonstrably false.
"Acting"?
In this case, as a state of behavior rather than just LARPing.
http://www.commentarymagazine.com/american-society/womens-soccer-and-the-equal-pay-canard/
As one woke Buzzfeed editor admitted in a bizarre piece about the World Cup winners, “I don’t closely follow most sports, soccer included—I still barely understand what offsides means, no matter how many times my friends try to explain it to me—but this World Cup, as with the last, I was drawn in by all these incredible lesbians.”
These Incredible Lesbians is a band name if there ever was one. But wait, there is more.
It is also misleading to compare the men’s and women’s teams’ pay because each team has a completely different pay structure. The women’s team collectively bargained for and won a pay structure that guarantees them salaries, severance pay, medical benefits, and some performance-based bonuses. The women’s team wanted the security of salary-based pay rather than purely performance-based pay, and they wanted to guarantee a salary even for players who were on the roster but didn’t play.
By contrast, the men are strictly pay-for-play. They do not receive a salary or additional benefits like health insurance or severance pay. Their pay structure is performance-based. As Michael McCann, who directs the Sports and Entertainment Law Institute at the University of New Hampshire School of Law told Minnesota Public Radio, “The two systems [for paying women and men] are designed differently . . . The men’s system pays players when they play, through bonuses, whereas the system for women’s players has guaranteed pay and also pays for certain bonuses as well. But it’s structured differently.”
They took security over performance rewards and now want to renegotiate the deal after they performed well. They are rich white girls and everyone knows the rules don't apply to rich white women.
That was what struck me. Apparently these women, who I'm assured are far smarter than us hoi polloi, didn't grasp the implications of the contract they signed.
I also wonder if the common comparisons of the mens vs. womens pay takes the benefits into account. Likely not.
According to that article it doesn't take the benefits into account. The men don't get benefits. The women do. And that makes sense. The men get benefits from the club teams they play for and don't need it. The women do.
Regardless, if they want more money, they need to strike. If they really are that valuable, the USFFS will pay up. If they are not, then they won't get paid and won't deserve to be paid.
Regardless, if they want more money, they need to strike.
Exactly. Making a big public thing out of it won't help; you and I can't do anything about their salary. But I guess they see the brouhaha as a reward in itself.
Rapone or whatever her name is does. And she is probably right. She is on her way to being the country's most marketable woke butch. There is good money in that. I doubt the other players on the team who have been completely ignored as she hogged the entire spotlight feel that way.
LOL, yeah, I guess it's her retirement plan. Better than a 401(k)!
She is the worst stereotype of the butch lesbian. She is trying so hard and is so transparent it is more sad than anything. Milo Yianoppolis can't hold a candle to her in the "I am going to live down to every stereotype about queers" competition.
John makes a good point. All the progtard shows will be lining up to get her in and the other bulkdykes will be salivating at the opportunity to scissor her.
""These Incredible Lesbians is a band name if there ever was one.""
Make it an all boy band and watch the heads explode.
I love it.
Shannon Keating's going to be shocked when she finds out that a lot of the women's soccer team actually likes getting fucked by dudes.

http://www.theepochtimes.com/jeffrey-epsteins-ties-to-clinton-and-his-questionable-source-of-wealth_2997016.html
Clinton’s statement may be factually correct, but it also appears to be a potential lie by omission. Note that Clinton’s statement only addresses flights on Epstein’s jet that took place in 2002 and 2003. Clinton states that he’s not spoken to Epstein in “well over a decade.” In other words, the Clinton statement leaves the years prior to 2002 and the period from 2004 to 2008 notably unaddressed.
In a 2016 article, Fox News reported that, based on a review of flight logs, Clinton had made “at least 26 trips” aboard Epstein’s private jet, which has been called the “Lolita Express” in media reports. The flight logs indicate that Clinton flew without a Secret Service detail for at least five of the flights.
The Fox article specifically mentions 2001, a year not covered by Clinton’s statement, as being a period in which Clinton traveled aboard the Epstein jet:
“Trips between 2001 and 2003 included extended junkets around the world with Epstein and fellow passengers identified on manifests by their initials or first names, including ‘Tatiana.’ The tricked-out jet earned its Nabakov-inspired nickname because it was reportedly outfitted with a bed where passengers had group sex with young girls.”
It’s possible that the former president is correct in his assertion that he has never been to Little St. James Island, Epstein’s private island. Indeed, Fox reported that flight logs do not show Clinton aboard any flights to St. Thomas, the nearest airport to Little St. James.
What does seem clear is that Clinton was a frequent traveler on Epstein’s 727 jet. According to the article, these same flight logs “show Clinton flying aboard Epstein’s plane to such destinations as Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, China, Brunei, London, New York, the Azores, Belgium, Norway, Russia and Africa.”
The article also notes that those regularly traveling with Clinton included “Epstein’s associates, New York socialite Ghislaine Maxwell and Epstein’s assistant, Sarah Kellen, both of whom were investigated by the FBI and Palm Beach Police for recruiting girls for Epstein and his friends.”
During one 5-stop Asia trip that took place in May 2002, no Secret Service agents were included in the flight logs. Fox News attempted and failed to force the Secret Service to answer requests under the Freedom of Information Act regarding the lack of agents on this trip.
Clinton’s repeated presence on Epstein’s plane also is noted during an Oct. 15, 2009, deposition of Epstein pilot Larry Visosky:
Q: You had Bill Clinton on the airplane ten or twenty times, right?
Visosky: Yeah. He’s my main focus. I remember him being on the aircraft, sure.
Clinton was down there selling timeshares in the Clinton Global Initiative. Epstein was contracted to provide the free gifts for attending.
You want a really weird story--have you guys been keeping up with the Merkel story about her shaking in public?
For the third time in a month, yesterday, Angela Merkel was seen shaking uncontrollably during a public appearance. It looks like she has Parkinsons or something that makes her have these shaking fits. She finally responded to questions about it, and her explanation makes it sound as if the shaking is a psychological problem.
"Pressed by a reporter for more of an explanation, Ms. Merkel said that the shaking on Wednesday was part of the psychological trauma she suffered after experiencing uncontrolled trembling under similar circumstances on June 18, while appearing with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine in the full afternoon sun.
“I was clear in saying that I am doing well and I think that can be accepted,” the chancellor said on Wednesday. “I said that I’m trying to come to grips with standing out there shaking while Mr. Zelensky visited and I think it’s going to blow over sometime soon.”
She added: “I’m not yet there yet, but I’m convinced that I am quite capable of doing my work.”
----New York Times, July 10, 2019
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/10/world/europe/merkel-shaking.html
Can you imagine what would happen if Trump said this?
I'm sure the press would go, "Oh, a psychological issue that makes you have an uncontrollable shaking fit in public? Okay. We'll just give you some space until you've had the opportunity to get the psychological help you need. We hope you feel better soon".
It is just Satan coming to collect his debt.
I finished reading the Kurt Cobain biography recently, and while I'm not a religious person, I wouldn't be shocked at all if it turned out that he made an actual Faustian bargain to gain permanent fame in exchange for his soul and an early death.
The most interesting part about that book was the contention that he was actually the one in his relationship with Courtney Love that drove a lot of their drug addiction issues. She would make serious efforts to get sober, but Kurt would always fall off the wagon quick and she'd get sucked back in to using because he was using. Looking at her now, it's pretty clear she would have been a lot better off if they had never become a couple.
I will have to look that up. Cobain was a strange guy. Other than maybe Robert Johnson, he is by far the strangest member of the infamous 27 club. The rest were just hedonists who either got unlucky and or didn't understand how heroin worked.
"Heavier Than Heaven" is the biography. The author traces a lot of Cobain's issues to the trauma of his parents divorcing and subsequent fallout from that. It's a pretty interesting read on a clearly emotionally disturbed individual.
I met Cobain a handful of times in the 80’s, before he was famous. Kind of a dick.
His music defined a new genre of music.

"The White House will be hosting a very big and very important meeting today. People will tell me I am right. At its conclusion, we will all go to the beautiful Rose Garden for a News Conference where I will tell the world I am right." — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 11, 2019
That would be the right thing to do. I don't have a problem with the president using the bully pulpit to shame misbehavior with his speech. What's the worst that can come from that? He might say something with which I disagree? I can live with that.
If the president uses this spectacle to introduce legislation calling for regulation of speech on social media, I'll have a big problem with that.
And if we libertarians don't recognize the line between the president exercising his free speech rights and the government violating the First Amendment, why should we expect our non-libertarian fellow Americans to recognize the difference?
Excellent point!! And rarely considered by the media who go batshit crazy at every tweet. The bully pulpit lives on Twitter.
Accidentally flagged you. Apologies.
They need to have a confirm button, like they used to.
an anonymous person who goes by the handle "CarpeDonktum" [has] announced that they will be attending.
Well, how will we know if they *do* attend?
Still, the guest list shows how the internet has changed political influence in recent years, allowing weirder and less mainstream voices to stand out"
I would say the internet is no weirder than the people we have seen on the mainstream media for decades if not forever, they are just weird people who made it to the "approved" outlet sources.
That has been the one great thing about Twitter; it has shown the world what broken, stupid, and strange people journalists are.
The ability for everyone to give their opinion on anything a journalist produces has really hurt the influence of the Cathedral. Which is why conservative and right wing websites dominated after the democrat debate
I don't know. I think that the internet cultivates weirdness. There have always been weirdos, but now it's much easier for them to find each other.
When it's done, we can compare it to this:
Free Speech and the Threat of Tech Regulation
This is at least a little odd, given how well conservative media is doing on social media these days.
Sure, if we ignore the demonetizing and deplatforming. And yes, conservative media does do well online, just like it did well on AM radio 20 years ago. It has trouble getting a foothold elsewhere, so it tends to be a more grassroots industry.
Funny that.
So, I clicked on the Quick Hits link to the piece on Obamacare, then saw it was on Vox and knew it would be retarded. It was, but the trip wasn't a total waste, because while at Vox I saw a link to what apparently is their weekly discussion on the current episode of The Handmaid's Tale. Their take on the episode and the series in general was very amusing. The allegorical content of the show goes right over their lefty feminist heads.
Pete, you fucked up here, old friend. You are perfectly capable of writing interesting and meaningful pieces when the inspiration strikes. Sadly, inspiration seems to strike you with less frequency and severity of late.
You completely fucked the dog on this one, and while I don't hate you for it, I am ever-so-slightly insulted that you couldn't be bothered to even attempt to hide the fact that you gazed upon your fields of fucks and found that it was barren. I am only slightly insulted because you've pretty much exhausted my field of fucks in turn.
If you'll promise to deliver better work, I'll promise to care more about what you do. /head pat
Who's a good boy?
"giant sucking sound" is a great legacy.

New York endangers free speech by investagating flag burnings as a hate crime.
https://newyork.cbslocal.com/2019/07/08/rainbow-flag-again-burned-outside-harlem-gay-bar/
I will be following this story.
Its okay to burn the US flag but burn an appropriated rainbow flag and New York politicians and bureaucrats shift into high gear.
New York's reigning ideology must be protected and enforced.
I should set up a public flag burning, and invite all the local traitor groups. Then pull out the rainbow flag at the last second and burn it. While cackling triumphantly.
Their anger and vitriol would be pure heaven
Oh you thought that burning the fl... yeah, people thought that.
What's the crime? Uncontained fire in the city? Does the hate crime law allow any crime or violation to be treated as a hate crime? Would hate-jaywalking be a possibility?
Going by the quote from Cuomo, sedition against the values of New York State.
I'm pretty sure being honest is against the values of NYS.
Would hate-jaywalking be a possibility?
That would be a good term for the habit of young Black men showing their ass by walking down the middle of the street obstructing traffic, Michael Brown-style.
An arrest has been made.
https://newyork.cbslocal.com/2019/07/09/harlem-gay-pride-flags-burned-arrest/
Actually, it seems quite reasonable to lay a charge of vandalism here. The flags were the property of the owner of the bar they were flying outside of.
That would be an actual crime, if so. That is not what seems to animating Cuomo and his ilk, rather the speech component is explicitly what they want to publish.
So is this summit weirder than the upcoming Koch+Soros Big Tech summit?
I'm going to say it probably is. Trump is a pretty weird guy.
And that's not a dig. The weirdness is one of the things I like most about Trump being president.
People wanted change? They got them some change.
A lot of people have said that "those who can't do, teach", but I disagree. One of the best ways of mastering a subject is having to teach it (this is more true when it comes to practical skills - which is why women's studies teachers are so stupid).
I honestly believe that "those who can't do, write/complain about those who can." Journalists. This is why whenever you read an article about something in your chosen field of work or hobby, they invariably get half-to-all of the story wrong. Once you've mastered a craft, I encourage you to read any article a journalist has written about that craft. I guarantee you, you will be upset at how poorly educated they are on most subjects that they write about. It puts all of their other work into serious doubt.
If they can't get basic facts correct about subjects that I understand, how can I trust them to report accurately about anything that I have little-to-no knowledge about?
Meant to be a reply to one of John's posts above... eh fuck it.
I once had a subscription to Flying magazine and there was an article about how journalist get things wrong a lot about aviation. It said something like the more technical the subject, the more likely journalists will get it wrong.
I'd be willing to bet on that.
I stopped talking to my local newspaper after experiencing this.
