Will Twitter Derangement Syndrome Kill the Democrats in 2020?: Reason Roundup
Plus: a radical remembering of the suburbs; support for sex-work decrim in NY; Bret Easton Ellis on Mueller and media

Democratic Party polarity, social media, and suburban misconceptions. The Extremely Online wing of the Democratic Party diverges significantly from Democrats overall. And both progressive activists and traditional liberals are overrepresented on social media compared to the party as a whole.
"Today's Democratic Party is increasingly perceived as dominated by its 'woke' left wing," write Nate Cohn and Kevin Quealy at The Upshot. "But the views of Democrats on social media often bear little resemblance to those of the wider Democratic electorate."
How do they know? They looked at the data:
The outspoken group of Democratic-leaning voters on social media is outnumbered, roughly 2 to 1, by the more moderate, more diverse and less educated group of Democrats who typically don't post political content online, according to data from the Hidden Tribes Project. This latter group has the numbers to decide the Democratic presidential nomination in favor of a relatively moderate establishment favorite, as it has often done in the past.
Take a quick look at these charts:
"The relative moderation of Democrats who are not sharing their political thoughts on social media, and therefore of Democrats as a whole," could help "explain why recent polls show that a majority of Democrats would rather see the party become more moderate than move leftward, even as progressives clamor for a Green New Deal or Medicare for all," write Cohn and Quealy.
In one sense, this misalignment is irrelevant. The party's priorities overall don't matter if elites are disproportionately influenced by the more vocal, media-friendly, online-savvy, and left-leaning segments of liberal America. But of course, Democratic candidates and campaigns do this at their own peril come election time.
Unfortunately, "the rest of the party is easy to miss," note Cohn and Quealy. "Not only is it less active on social media, but it is also under-represented in the well-educated, urban enclaves where journalists roam. It is under-represented in the Northern blue states and districts where most Democratic politicians win elections."
Perhaps of interest to libertarians and those interested in independent and third-party candidates:
Less engaged and less ideological voters tend to be cynical about politics. One might think cynicism would translate to support for outsider candidates, and it probably could against an establishment favorite with enough flaws. Instead, it has more often meant skepticism of ambitious, idealistic, pie-in-the-sky liberals and progressives who offer big promises with no record. It has meant an appreciation for well-known, battle-tested politicians who have been on their side or even delivered in the past. This election cycle, Mr. Biden might be the beneficiary of such sentiment.
A good companion read to the above is "A Tale of Two Suburbs," in which Clare Malone at FiveThirtyEight explains why "white Democrats' culture clash has been long in the making." Using her home turf cities of Shaker Heights and Parma, both just outside Cleveland, Ohio, Malone writes:
The two cities, one racially mixed, the other homogenous, have become my reference point for a cultural fissure in the Democratic Party that gaped open with the election of Trump. White Americans have split politically along class lines, and their alienation from each other following 2016 seems utter and complete. But the split that's happening isn't just between residents of rural and urban places. It's also apparent in some suburbs, among people whose lives aren't, at least on the surface, all that different from one another's.
While we're rethinking suburban politics: "Radical" and "suburbs" aren't usually two words that go together. Amanda Kolson Hurley would like to reconsider that:
Clichés and misconceptions still define suburbia in the popular imagination, and it drives me crazy. I live in Montgomery County, Maryland, outside of Washington, D.C. I'm a suburbanite, but my life doesn't revolve around manicured lawns, status anxiety, or a craving for homogeneity. My suburban experience is riding the bus as people chat around me in Spanish and French Creole. It's having neighbors who hail from Tibet, Brazil, and Kenya as well as Cincinnati. It's my son attending a school that reflects the diversity—and stubborn inequality—of America today.*
*
Hurley's new book doesn't dispute the post-industrialization, post-war white flight narrative of suburban sprawl so much as built beyond it. "Radical Suburbs is about waves of idealists who established alternative suburbs outside of Eastern U.S. cities, beginning in the 1820s and continuing through the 1960s," she writes at CityLab.
These groups had very different backgrounds and motivations, but all of them believed in the power of the local community to shape moral and social values, and in the freedom provided by outskirts land to live and build in new ways.

Devin Nunes "has no idea how Twitter works," as Intelligencer succinctly puts it. And yet he's bringing a second defamation lawsuit centered largely on tweets that he feels were unfair to him. The first lawsuit, filed last month, names strategist Liz Mair along with a fake cow and an account calling itself Devin Nunes' mom. The new lawsuit also names Mair, along with McClatchy Publishers, over a story run in the The Fresno Bee about a lawsuit against a winery Nunes' is invested in. At one point, Nunes accuses Bee writer Mackenzie Mays of having bolded specific words in a tweet, a function that Twitter doesn't support. As Intelligencer explains:
The bolded words in the screenshot included in the lawsuit are there because Twitter's search function bolds the search terms when displaying results. (An example: If I search for "donald trump traitor" on Twitter, the site might show me a tweet that looks like "Donald Trump is not a traitor.")

"I want to state that I am not a Republican, I am not a conservative, I am not part of the right wing, I did not vote for Trump, I am not part of the alt-right, I am not interested in politics." That was author Bret Easton Ellis' preamble on his podcast yesterday. Ellis said he doesn't "care enough about" Trump to defend him against allegations of Russian collusion, but his beef is with "the crazy dishonest press" and "being lied to" by members of it. "There is no way to get around the fact that the mainstream media misled the country for the last two years. Period," Ellis added. "I'm not saying that as a conservative, or as a liberal. I'm saying it simply as a witness." These outlets "should be humiliated by what they were perpetrating."

Trump is seeking to shut down the bloated and inefficient Office of Personnel Management.
TOO SOON AND WITHOUT DUE CONSIDERATION JUST LIKE SYRIA.
If the OPM disappears, do the personnel disappear as well? Because that would be the awesome.
Hello.
Those fuckers deserve it after they let hackers steal my info (I had been off my dad's insurance for over 10 years before this happened) and then said tough titties we are not going to compensate you because your not a dependent of the employee anymore and you're over 30.

I don't get Reason. They should be cheering Trump on. They should be putting pressure on him to cut bloated agencies.
Instead they weirdly tend to mock him and write weird articles defending Obamacare and open borders. Weird.
Two reasons. First some of the staff like Welch and Dalmia are just progs pretending to be Libertarians, and sometimes not even that, for paychecks. Second, a lot of the staff, Suderman in particular, went so bat shit insane during the 2016 election about how horrible Trump was, they can't now back down and think rationally about him now that he is in office without admitting what complete fools they were.
I know, it's a real brain-stumper!
I don't think they should cheer him or hate on him. Somethings he does are good and others suck IMHO. He's a mixed bag like all politicians. I for one am against his border policy; but I am for the status quo until an actual legislative policy is presented. I am for getting rid of Obamacare so if he can do that great. I hate his tariffs but am for his de-regulation agenda.
Yeah, praise what he does well and criticize what he does that isn't good. They shouldn't be cheering anyone on, but reporting and commenting on what they do.
They should praise the act, but understand the nature of Trump. The only reason Trump hates "big government" is because big government hates him. He has never expressed any libertarian principles, nor does he have any. He simply shares the hatred other conservatives share for the bloated state. Not because it's big, but because it was built by their political enemies. But Trump, just like other conservatives, would happily rebuild the state in their own likenesses. That's why libertarians should understand that they aren't conservatives. They may currently walk many of the same paths, but conservatives don't share the same commitment to the NAP, liberal fundamentals, or the nature of rights.
Did your dad get some compensation?
...because I didn't.
He said they paid for him and my younger brothers credit protection. Wasn't direct compensation but they did try to protect him from fraud which was all the compensation I wanted.
Will the government still be able to close for inclement weather?
We'll never be able to decide for ourselves without a huge government agency to tell us after the first foot of snow has fallen whether to get on the road or telework.
Think of the jerbs!!!
Texas is advancing a bill to make women who get abortions guilty of homicide.
The police procedurals are behind this. The Law & Orders and CSI's are running out of sensational ripped from the headlines scripts.
One crime, six trials, three tossed convictions, two hung juries, a lot of prosecutorial misconduct, and a man on death row.
Criminal justice business is booming!
"Attorney General William Barr has formed a team at the Justice Department to examine the origins of the counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign's possible ties to Russia's interference in the 2016 election, according to a person familiar with the plans."

Comey publicly admitted that he knew the provenance of the information in the warrant application to writetap the Trump campaign was all about partisan opposition research.
Letting the FBI get away with perpetrating surveillance on political campaigns using information from highly dubious sources is a terrible thing--no matter your favorite side of the fence.
Let's hope a special counsel is appointed.
They don't need a special counsel. The AG can gasp do his job and conduct oversight of the organization he is paid to run.
Barr's testimony was great--a huge "fuck you, you don't know what the fuck you're talking about" to the Dems across the board--but the funniest part about it was when he revealed that Mueller had been asked to provide feedback on Barr's report digest, and he declined.
I told psychotics like Ordinary Person that Mueller was going to break their hearts again, and I was right. Maybe I should get one of those Mueller candles and a Mueller Time coffee mug for providing me with so many lulz the past few weeks.
That just mean Mueller is a Putin mole Red Rocks. You don't understand how deep the conspiracy goes.
"...I told psychotics like Ordinary Person that Mueller was going to break their hearts again, and I was right...."
I'm surprised that POS isn't here this morning whining that someone else is 'HIDING TEH TRUTH!!!'
There was a Mary Stack outbreak yesterday in the immigration thread. No kidding. It was the kind of crazy you can't fake and that only Stack and Hihn posses. Creepy as hell.
I enjoyed your onslaught there, John
Thank you. I should learn to ignore her. She is a legitimately troubled person.
Was that the one who claimed to have been assaulted five times before she was . . . ?
She was the one claiming the guy from Hondurous was lying.
The Mueller investigation was a Republican investigation. Trump appointed Rosenstein. Rosenstein decided to appoint Mueller. Y'all just ignore reality so it's difficult to reason with you. The media had nothing to fucking do with it. You had people like Kevin McCarthy and Paul Ryan wondering and believing that Trump was on Putin's payroll. Of course the media is going eat up that type of supposition. We haven't seen the Mueller report. We know Trump lied about trying to do business with Putin's regime. Trump was so fucking dirty that his own appointee appointed a special counsel.
""The Mueller investigation was a Republican investigation."'
So now Mueller was on the inside for the republicans? That's how you are going to spin it after two years?
Pathetic.
God damn man. Trump appointed Rosenstein to the DOJ under Sessions. Rosenstein appointed Mueller. Republicans decided to investigate Trump.
So. No one had a problem with it for two years.
I thought we were talking about the FBI investigation of the Trump campaign--initiated under the Obama administration.
"I was told at some point that it was-- the effort had originally been financed by a Republican source to develop-- material-- opposition research on Donald Trump. Then after the Republican nominating process ended, the effort was taken up and funded by a Democratic aligned group trying to get opposition research on Trump. I never knew which-- who the groups were, but I knew it started with Republicans paying for it and then Democrats were paying for it."

Why change the subject?
Rosenstein must had his own suspicious of Trump to have appointed Mueller. I don't have access to the information that Rosenstein relied upon when he appointed Mueller because Barr hasn't released that information. Barr knows what Rosenstein was thinking when he appointed Mueller. I know enough about Carter Page to not be surprised that he was under surveillance. Page had been involved with Russian spys in the past and then he winds up with Trump. So thing with Manafort. Barr needs to release the Mueller report so we can better understand why the President was under criminal investigation.
Ah, you've reached the point where you engage in rank speculation.
Lol, nothing you wrote in this thread has any connection to reality.
You bet on the wrong horse and got cleaned out, and I couldn't be more gleeful.
I seem to recall Democrats telling us Russia wasn't a big issue. It was what 2012 in the way back machine.
If the law was broken in this way, then someone needs to be prosecuted.
My understanding is that the FBI ran warrant application past the FISA courts three times--and it was rejected (rare occurrence) the first two times.
It was only when the information from the Steele dossier was included in the warrant application that the FISA court finally relented and granted the warrant to do surveillance on the Trump campaign.
My understanding is that the provenance of the information in the Steele dossier was not disclosed to the FISA court in the warrant application.
I do not understand whether it was illegal for the FBI or the individuals involved to withhold the provenance of the evidence in the warrant, but I know what the Fourth Amendment says.
"no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation"
If somebody supported the credibility of the evidence in that warrant, by oath or affirmation, knowing full well that it was about as credible as opposition campaign research is likely to be, and withheld that information from the judge at the FISA court, then if I'm on the grand jury, I'm voting to indict.
Yes. a lot of people need to be prosecuted. Nunez has sent 8 criminal referals to DOJ. The names of those referals are supposed to be released sometime this week last I heard.
My understanding is that the provenance of the information in the Steele dossier was not disclosed to the FISA court in the warrant application.
You watch, this is what's going to get Flynn's sentence either thrown out or dramatically reduced, because the FISA warrants are what were used to get the information on his activities.
I agree. The fact that Flynn has yet to be sentenced despite the Special Counsel ending its investigation is highly suspicious. What exactly are they waiting for? The investigation is over. There is nothing left for Flynn to cooperate with.
I told Ken Dopehat White that the Flynn plea was likely deeply flawed and stood a good chance of being thrown out and he called me insane and blocked me on Twitter for my trouble. White is just open minded and civil liberties sensitive that way.
From what I understand Flynn is set to testify in another criminal trial and that's why he hasn't been sentenced for lying to the FBI about his interactions with the Russian govt.
I haven't read that. Where did you see that? I can't find any mention of it on the web.
There's a Fox News story from Dec 2018 about a federal judge tearing into Flynn accusing Flynn of damn near treason and delaying the sentencing. There was mention of a criminal case involving the Turkish govt where Flynn was cooperating with Mueller.
Show me a link to that. Which case? You are going to have to do better than something you pulled out of your ass.
From what I understand, Flynn was bullied into pleading guilty to protect his son from the Mueller investigation.
"Former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn has expressed concern about the potential legal exposure of his son, Michael Flynn Jr., who, like his father, is under scrutiny by special counsel Robert Mueller, multiple sources familiar with the matter tell CNN.
Flynn's concern could factor into decisions about how to respond to Mueller's ongoing investigation. The special counsel is looking into Russian meddling in the 2016 campaign as well as the business dealings of key campaign advisers to President Donald Trump.
Flynn's wife, Lori, shares his concerns about their son's possible legal exposure, according to a person who knows the family.
http://www.cnn.com/2017/11/08/.....index.html
----CNN November 9, 2017
Why would anybody want to subject their kid to a prosecutor desperate to put scalps on the wall to justify his continued investigation?
I suspect Flynn is the kind of guy who might plead guilty to murdering Nicole Brown Simpson if you threatened to drag his kids through the mud in public and throw them in prison.
Mueller didn't need to justify anything. Mueller was appointed and was answering to Rosenstein alone. Rosenstein would see for himself if the Flynn prosecution was baseless.
Barr is now responsible for the prosecution Flynn by the way. Barr has been responsible for awhile now. If Flynn was such an innocent man then Barr would have presented evidence and intervened in the justice.
From what I understand Flynn is set to testify in another criminal trial and that's why he hasn't been sentenced for lying to the FBI about his interactions with the Russian govt.
Wrong.
Additionally, there's some reason to believe that they went out of their way to make sure that they got a different FISA judge each time around, to make sure nobody was connecting the dots.
And they implanted a mind control device into Rosenstein making him appoint Mueller. And Mueller was the face of evil for two years but he's an honorable man now.
There was never an investigation.
There was a composition.
It was an attempted set up the whole way, with Trump and Russia as the targets
Do you know what Barr hasn't said? He hasn't said the investigation was a baseless. He hasn't attacked the credibility of Mueller or Mueller's methods. Barr has only said that Mueller's investigation concluded without criminal charges against Trump.
I read where it's possible that Flynn was the actual target, because he was critical of the "intelligence community" for inefficiency and many failures including Benghazi, and he was going to be in a position to make major changes in the agencies. Basically the went after him to protect their phony-baloney jobs. Who knows the ground truth when you're dealing with professional liars?
I think they felt Flynn was the most dangerous in the short term, so went after him immediately, but the plot began before Flynn was really in the picture.
Good look into the deep state.
Small circles, lots of front companies.

There really is a bipartisan fusion party. And faced with a true outsider possibly taking office in Trump, they lost their minds.
Also, I have read in several places the whole thing was really a hit on Flynn. Flynn actually stood up the IC when he was in command in Iraq and they never forgave him for it.

(75) The Treasury's OIA actions were most likely carried out with approval from S. Leslie Ireland, who wore two hats - she was Assistant Secretary For Intelligence and Analysis at the Treasury, while also the National Intelligence Manager for Threat Finance at the ODNI.
(76) The ODNI is responsible for the Presidential Daily Brief, which by 2013 was being seen by roughly 30+ people in the Obama Administration. Obama personally read his on an iPad disconnected from the internet.
(77) Michael Isikoff - Chalupa's associate - drops the article "Trump's campaign chief is questioned about ties to Russian billionaire" on April 25 about Manafort, while Papadopoulos starts sending e-mails to try and set up a meeting between Russia and Trump. And failing.
(78) On the same day - April 25 - Obama For America begins paying funds into Perkins Coie for "legal services". This is the same month that Perkins Coie had hired Fusion GPS, who hired Orbis Business Intelligence, ran by Christopher Steele.
(79) On May 10, George Papadopoulos met with Alexander Downer in London - in a meeting arranged by Downer - where Papadopoulos brought up the possibility of Russia having damaging information on Hillary.
(80) A few days later, on May 17, Sidney Blumenthal had a book party at John and Christina Ritch's home, where he met with Rep. Jamie Raskin. On the same day, Sen. Grassley sent a letter to FBI's Comey about Clinton's server.
(81) Two days after this, Judge Rudolph Contreras was appointed to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court.
(82) While Papadopoulos was still sending e-mails to try and set up that oh-so-sweet meeting between Trump and Russia (and failing), Nellie Ohr was grabbing herself a licence for a ham radio on May 23.
(83) In June, Steele was flying to Rome to meet with FBI's Michael Gaeta to discuss the dossier, while Natalia Veselnitskaya was granted permission from the US Government to come to the US on a B-status non-immigrant visa.
(84) Now, at this time, Rob Goldstone began setting up the Trump Tower meeting on orders from Emin Agalarov (Goldman's only client), which led to Trump Jr, Kushner, Manafort, Veselnitskaya, Rinat Akhmetshin and Anatoli Samochornov in the same room
(85) Veselnitskaya was working with Fusion GPS on the Prevezon Holdings case, Akhmetshin did not like the Trump family, and Anatoli Samochornov had both FBI and State Department connections.
Theres a lot more, but I'll stop posting at this point.
Take a look for yourselves

If nothing else comes of this, I hope all of the names of the journalists on these people's payroll become public.
There is no way in hell Trump was the first person they did this to. At this point, they will be lucky if their spying on Trump is all that is revealed. There is a chance everything will become known and I think the full truth would shock even the most cynical.
The full truth is far too horrifying for most, including the Reason commentariat cynics and skeptics.
Trump was just the catalyst for revealing some of this stuff, but a recent article by Bailey is something to take note of.
As is the climate change movement and migrant promotion
What recent article by Bailey?
The gene one
(110) The day after the Aspen Security Forum ended and all of these people met up, CROSSFIRE HURRICANE opened on July 31.
(111) Things start to ramp up. Crossfire Hurricane opens, so now it is all hands on deck for... CIA's John Brennan, who sends an "eyes only" envelope straight to President Obama, Denis McDonough, Avril Haines and Susan Rice via courier.
(112) CIA's Brennan then got on the phone with Haines to discuss "Russia", then later pulled Susan Rice aside after a meeting. Then after this, directly briefed President Obama, Rice, Haines and McDonough in the Oval Office.
Obama wanted everybody on it.
(113) Now, this could also have been the point where Brennan made his task force (or legitimised the one from April). Analysts from the CIA, the NSA and the FBI would report to two groups: Obama and
(115) The Secret Situation Room Squad then sent secret envelopes out to Secretary John Kerry and Secretary Ashton Carter, among other Secretaries.
(116) You see, these secret Situation Room meetings were so secret that NOTHING could be discussed until everybody was sat down, and not only that, but normally NSC members can visually see who is in the room. These meetings? Cameras off, NOBODY was allowed to watch.
(117) And not only that, but oddly enough, the Secret Situation Room Squad never thought about inviting their good friend Admiral Mike Rogers of the NSA to the team, instead leaving him out in the cold. Just like the Hannigan-Brennan meeting.
Bad cut.

Michael Hinson is no longer charged with animal cruelty and abandonment. He says fish aren't protected under related statues that define "animal" as amphibians, reptiles, bird and mammals, excluding humans.
Based on the batshit-crazy attempt to define his way out the charges, are we sure they didn't misquote the name of Michael Hihn?
He defined nothing, the legislature did when they wrote the law. The specifically left fish off the list of what constitutes an animal for the purposes of animal cruelty. If they hadn't defined it narrowly, bug spray companies would be out of business.
But yes Michael Hihn is batshit crazy.
Troy McClure sleeps with the fishes.

the mainstream media misled the country for the last two years
Seems like a bit of an understatement. They have been and remain full-on propaganda.
Unfortunately, "the rest of the party is easy to miss..."
Hence Trump?
Quite the opposite. With their gradual embrace of open borders, reparations for slavery, and elective third trimester abortion, Democrats are guaranteed to win in a landslide in 2020.
Maybe I am being obtuse, but wasn't white folks forking out cash for their ancestors the problem in the first place?
Unfortunately, "the rest of the party is easy to miss," note Cohn and Quealy. "Okay, racist!" the woman, who is white, retorted.
LOL. These people are beyond parody.
They really are. All you can do is laugh at them. Getting angry just feeds their sense of victimhood and there is no reasoning with them. So, all that is left is to laugh.
What's the opposite of an Oreo?
Trump is seeking to shut down the bloated and inefficient Office of Personnel Management.
And when you read "inefficient", remember this.
Morgan Freeman (not the actor) explains what's at stake in Drumpf's continuing war on immigrants.
We are witnessing the deliberate reincarnation of Adolf Hitler right before our eyes in Stephen Miller, who will stop at nothing to preserve some BS pure white bloodline. We should be very scared, and must stop Trump from empowering this evil & hatful man.
OK, fine, he misspelled "hateful" as "hatful." Otherwise he's right on.
Steven Miller is Jewish. God really does have a sense of humor sending Hitler back to earth as a Jew.
The ultimate irony would be sending Jesus as a Jew!
That is why you shouldn't eat Italian food. It was the food the Romans made Jesus eat.
Jesus got the last laugh and made his followers eat HIM!
We're in the middle of the longest bull market in history. Public pension plans are heavily invested and have benefited greatly from the long bull market, so why have their liabilities continued to grow faster than their assets?
Is it because Wall Street is run by banksters?
No.
"The amount owed to retirees is accelerating faster than assets on hand to pay those future obligations. Liabilities of major U.S. public pensions are up 64% since 2007 while assets are up 30%, according to the most recent data from Boston College's Center for Retirement Research."
A 30% return over that period is damn healthy for a retirement system that's meant to fund the proverbial "widows and orphans". They're not loading up on leverage and going after options on tech.
Higher returns won't fix the problem if they to more than double their total return to meet obligation anyway. We need to restrict government hiring and have massive layoffs. We simply can't afford all these public employees.

Blacks are far more likely than whites to view their melanin as central to their identity. In the poll, 52% of blacks said being black is extremely important to them while 22% said it was very important as to how they think of themselves.
Whites? Just 15% of whites said it was extremely important or very important to them as to how they think of themselves.
This information can be found at Pewsocialtrends.org
Blinded by privilege.
False consciousness for the win.
Blinded by the light.
Black people are also far more likely to be praised for identifying with their pigmentation, whites aremore likely to be condemned such an attitude.
That double moral standard cannot continue. It has to give, one way or the other.
Well duh, being white is racist
Trump is seeking to shut down the bloated and inefficient Office of Personnel Management.
I await the Reason article detailing how this is a reckless affront to responsible government.
Ten bucks says Suderman is drafting that as we speak after somehow managing to wrestle the assignment away from Welch.
Easy article. Orange man bad.
Hit submit.
Can someone let Liz know that the "T" in TDS doesn't stand for Twitter?
She's attempting a stealth 'appropriation'.
Lizzie talking about Twitter Derangement Syndrome is pretty hilarious. I doubt that she could survive so much as even one day without it.
Maybe a Thai prostitute holds the keys to her insanity?
Jonathan Greenblatt of the ADL is a staunch ally in the fight for the Koch / Reason immigration agenda.
Especially as Jews, we know the consequences of the US turning people away b/c of the fallacy that "our country is full." This rhetoric, especially from our highest offices, is harmful. We are a nation of immigrants & we're stronger because of it.

Indeed. Which is partly why he has never been my first choice for 2020.
There is no way to get around the fact that the mainstream media misled the country for the last two years.
True, but you need to understand Mr. Easton that those of us who are legitimately well-informed (because we don't get all our information from merely the New York Times, the Washington Post, CNN echo chamber but from other sources of information as well) were never really fooled or misled. Some of us (like yours truly) knew almost from day one that "Russiagate" was a complete hoax manufactured by the Negro Nixon and his top minions in the intel agencies!
"This latter group has the numbers to decide the Democratic presidential nomination in favor of a relatively moderate establishment favorite, as it has often done in the past."
If the centrist candidate is Joe Biden, he's polling at about 30% of the Democrat vote.
Is there a centrist in the rest of the field?
If there is, aren't we talking about "centrist" for a Democrat?
If one of them is supportive of the Green New Deal and Medicare for All but hasn't yet signed off on reparations for slavery, does that make him or her a centrist?
Is a centrist someone who wants the government to break up Amazon, Facebook, and Google and wants to eliminate all cows in ten years, but isn't completely on board with reparations for slavery?
"The Extremely Online wing of the Democratic Party diverges significantly from Democrats overall. "
Now do Republicans.
I'd like to see these stats too
It may be that the "Extremely Online wing" of the Democrats don't represent Democrats overall.
But what are Democrats overall willing to do to rein in the "Extremely Online wing"? If their response to things like the Gangrene New Deal, gun bans, etc. is to silently acquiesce, I don't know that the difference matters.
The Democrats have always owned the media and thus never had a need to reign in their lunatic fringe because media just didn't cover them. So, most of the public had no idea they existed. Twitter, bless its heart, changed that and let all of the nuts have a platform.
And everyone learned that the media and the lunatic fringe are basically the same group of people.
Yes. Twitter was a honey pot designed to appeal to reporters' egos and expose them for who they are.
Correct, sandwich.
The Ds follow, and will continue to follow, the lunatic "fringe"
You guys know how progressives are always using mass shootings as an excuse to come after our constitutional rights?
Well now they're in good company:
"Chinese authorities defended the razing of Muslim neighborhoods and the mass use of digital surveillance in the capital of China's Xinjiang region, saying the measures are designed to promote development and security for locals.
The Xinjiang government's information office . . . . justified the installation of digital cameras at Urumqi's more than 300 mosques by evoking last month's mass shootings in New Zealand"

They are also harvesting and selling organs from jailed Muslims. Funny how all of the good Progs in the west who spend so much time rendering their garments of Isreal and the US's treatment of Muslims has nothing to say about this.
An totalitarian ideology does not brook a competing faith? Who knew?
In international news, our friends in Israel re-elect Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yet again, and a despairing "mainstream" media laments that >there is no left left in Israel.
A country that has no left left is what I call one of the luckiest countries in the world. God willing that will be true here in America as well someday!
I don't know enough about Israel to comment specifically about them, but one party states are usually not for the best. Left and Right, their terms and definition vary wildly from nation to community. Hell, Left and Right are inherently relative terms, both in politics and also directions.
One party states tend to turn into themselves, Ken wrote some good commentary on this, and of Israel truly is that, it should inspire at least minor concern.
That's a big if though, the media tends to exaggerate.
I live in Montgomery County, Maryland, outside of Washington, D.C.
Stop right there. You don't live in a typical suburb.
And her "Kenyan and Tibeten" neighbors likely all work in good jobs for the international do gooder industrial complex. She is about as exposed to the culture of those countries as someone who checked out a library book.
A lot of us live in political/social bubbles in modern America, but I'm always astounded how many people are completely unaware they live in a bubble.
Me too.
They are fewer people more provincial than people who imagine themselves cosmopolitan.

It's beautiful to come here every day and see how aggressively ignorant the editors and staff are concerning the lives of the average American
Taking a bus and hearing french? Give me a fucking break
I live in Monkey County Maryland and I can't remember the last time I heard someone speaking French in public. I am sure I have at some point but it is hardly routine. Spanish? All of the time. But not French. That woman is lying and virtue signaling.
She said "French Creole" which probably actually means a language she neither understands nor recognizes.
Someone from Louisiana?

"Texas is advancing a bill to make women who get abortions guilty of homicide."
This is a pretty disingenuous characterization of a bill which forbids doctors from denying medical treatment to a child that survives an abortion. If you need to be this disingenuous in the name of your God then maybe you should find a new religion.
The article is nothing but propaganda. But it does separately mention the bill already going through about having to try to save the life of a child that survives an abortion. So is this a different bill?
From what I have found, the bill that was referenced does outlaw all abortions except for those in which the mother's life is threatened due to complications from the pregnancy. And it does apparently remove the exemption of women who have an abortion from Texas penal codes, so it sounds like it does have the potential to put women up for murder who have an abortion.
Not that the bill has any chance of passing or even getting a floor vote. But I think this bill is a press from the full on Socon wing.
Assuming you're talking about HB 1500, no. It doesn't apply to abortions prior to detection of a fetal heartbeat, which means about six weeks.
Which, yes, means a lot of abortions, but well short of "all".
Also, from the bill: "(b) This subchapter may not be construed to authorize the
initiation of a cause of action against or the prosecution of a
woman on whom an abortion is performed or induced or attempted to be
performed or induced in violation of this subchapter."
So I'd say that's a negative on putting women up for murder who have an abortion, too.
This appears to be a different bill. It has no chance of becoming law. It only got a hearing because the Chairman has pledged to give *all* proposed bills a hearing.
"Trump is seeking to shut down the bloated and inefficient Office of Personnel Management."
Damn he keeps getting better and better. I say this as someone who didn't vote for him and expected it to be a disaster. But he just keeps on making me like him more with moves like this.
"It's having neighbors who hail from Tibet, Brazil, and Kenya as well as Cincinnati. It's my son attending a school that reflects the diversity?and stubborn inequality?of America today."
Those things have no inherent positive values. Ethnic and cultural diversity have no inherent positive values. They are neutral, and praising it as a positive thing is no different than praising racial homogeneity as a positive thing. It is two sides of the same coin.
No they don't. Also, the people she knows from those places are likely international elites whom she shares a common culture. She thinks she is living in a diverse environment because people look different. She is not.
Fan-fucking-tastic. Absolutely spot on.
And in lying for two years they did more damage to people's faith in the government and caused more division in the country than any Russian intelligence operative could in their wildest dreams. While looking for Russians under every bed, they were doing Putin's bidding better than if they had been on his payroll.
Rather like the NZ government doing exactly what the mosque shooter wanted.
There's a giant problem with your position and your brain. Trump appointed Rosenstein. Rosenstein appointed Mueller. Even Kevin McCarthy thought Trump was on Putin's payroll. Republicans controlled the govt during this grand conspiracy against Trump. It was Trump's lying about doing business with Putin, lying about contacting the Russian govt during the campaign, lying about meeting the Russian govt to get the emails, parroting Russian propaganda, surrounding himself with useful idiots and paid off con men like Page and Manafort and more that convinced Trump's own appointee to hire a Republican Mueller to get to the bottom of it. Now we need to see the report. I think the evidence supports my suspicions and I welcome further inquiry into all of it. Release everything.
Well said.
#TheWallsAreClosingIn
#MaddowWasRight
#OlbermannWasRight
You're in luck then.
There was no evidence Trump ever colluded with the Russians. There wasn't any found by the Mueller investigation. Not some evidence or not enough evidence but no evidence. The media lied and accepted the lies of the IC and the Democratic party and did grave damage to the country.
And yes, lots of things are going to be released. Good luck with that.
lots of things are going to be released
I can't wait. But I am too cynical to think anything positive will come of it.
There was no evidence Trump ever colluded with the Russians.
AFAICT, outside more conventional definitions of vote tampering and electioneering, there's no definitive agreement on what constitutes illegal collusion. I fail to see how you could convict a private businessman of colluding with foreign powers and exempt a former Secretary Of State for the exact same actions except to say that nobody from the private sector (who isn't even more rabidly nativist) can run for the Presidency.
Again, back to what I was saying about the open borders issue yesterday, in a global economy, we just have to accept that foreign powers are going to meddle in our democracy. The question is will we allow foreign powers to influence them at the level of fundamental rights and/or do so unilaterally? Because, the way I see it, we consider it a terrible crime when Russia tries to push its gay rights policies or abortion policies on American voters but we *also* consider it a crime (somehow) when we try to project our 2A values on the Russian political system.
This whole thing is so fucked at so many levels it gets hard to comprehend sometimes.
There's a giant problem with your position and your brain.
Lol, talk about projection.
Nothing you write is accurate. Nothing you write is real. It's proglydyte fanfiction to soothe your delusions of importance.
You and your fellow psychotics are one Presidential election from lighting yourselves on fire, because you can't deal with reality at all.
Come on Red Rocks, you are talking about someone who just recently was saying Mueller was going to produce something on Trump yet now decides that Mueller didn't produce something on Trump because of republicans.
After two years of supporting Mueller, now thinks something was up because he didn't get the outcome he wanted.
We all see who has the problem with a brain.
useful idiots
Look in the mirror. Or have another glass of msm koolaide. Idc.

You're a fucking lefty ignoramus incapable of thought.
You lost, loser and you keep on losing. Fuck off and quit bothering the adults.
He thinks...
Yet also claims no one can know what Barr hasn't said. Which should include himself.
Therefore he doesn't think.
Maddow is this you?
Fan-fucking-tastic. Absolutely spot on.
It's accurate and pretty scathingly honest but I'd say it doesn't go far enough. Politicians lie. They have *always* lied. We may want them to speak the truth but it's long been understood that they're faulty humans who lie both as individuals and as a group.
The media, OTOH, has demonstrated that both as individuals and as a group despite being auspicously devoted to objective truth are abjectly devoted to the same manner of lying and deceit at all levels. One represents a systemic failure of power structures, the other represents a fundamental failure of humanity.
The abortion homicide link is a gem.
"it faces steep odds of becoming law"
"The legislation is the brainchild of state Rep. Tony Tinderholt"
"The Air Force veteran, who has been married five times, argues that the measure is necessary to make women "more personally responsible." "
"A number of hurdles stand in the way of the legislation, including the reluctance of the committee's chairman, Republican Jeff Leach, to bring it to the full House. Even some antiabortion groups, such as Texans for Life, oppose the severe changes to the state's criminal laws."
"Leach, who represents a swath of Collin County in North Texas, said he was committed to giving each bill introduced by a member a hearing before the committee. "
Is there any indication that anyone other than the sponsor supports this bill?
Texas prolife groups have been pressing the legislature to pass good prolife legislation - obviously the mainstream prolife movement's caution in penalizing women opens them up to concern-trolling, but so far they're focused on effectiveness, not pleasing prochoice trolls.
Bwaahahahahaha!
From the Hidden Tribes website on the Democratic electorate:
A range of major issues splits the country
And the tabs:
Immigration Impact
White Privilege
Sexual Harassment
Islamaphobia
Oh, dear God, I would suggest the only real major issue is over whether or not you're batshit insane for thinking these things are actually major issues instead of clickbait outrage generators for the media who are only too happy to feed you bullshit instead of addressing actual substantive issues.
The party's priorities overall don't matter if elites are disproportionately influenced by the more vocal, media-friendly, online-savvy, and left-leaning segments of liberal America.
This right here is why Twitter keeps going, no matter how much damage it does to the people on it.
It's odd looking at that graph on SW Border Patrol apprehensions, the numbers dropped sharply about the time the economy fell into the toilet and never recovered during the unprecedentedly long economic boom of the Obama years and yet as soon as Trump comes along and kicks the economy back into the shitter, the numbers start spiking up. I would have thought illegal immigration numbers might track the US economy and the availability of work - seems intuitive to me - and yet the economic miracles Obama wrought don't seem to have translated into illegal immigration figures.
"...Trump comes along and kicks the economy back into the shitter,..."
Leave it to OBL.
" I live in Montgomery County, Maryland, outside of Washington, D.C. I'm a suburbanite, but my life doesn't revolve around manicured lawns, status anxiety, or a craving for homogeneity. My suburban experience is riding the bus as people chat around me in Spanish and French Creole. It's having neighbors who hail from Tibet, Brazil, and Kenya as well as Cincinnati."
I rarely think of anyone from MoCo as "suburbanite", any more than I think of NoVA residents as "suburbanite". those areas are far more dense than suburbs traditionally were, so it never came off as terribly "suburban". there are plenty of oases, and green spaces, and such, but those are in fully urban cityscapes as well. not sure that anything inside or immediately outside the Beltway counts as "suburban" in any real sense anymore.
In NoVa -PWC and Loudoun are very suburban in the traditional sense, so is MoCo north of Rockville. Until relatively recently, you wouldn't find many proggies in any of these places but they are being pushed out that way it seems because inside the beltway is too expensive.
I think 2020 will be a replay of either 1972 or 1984, or 2004 for the dems. If they pick someone to radical like McGovern, it will turn off the moderates. If they go with a traditional dem or moderate (Biden or Klobchar), the lefty kiddos won't show up to vote.
If they nominate Biden or Klobchar or someone like that, I bet some lefty goes independent and torpeodos the candidate. In some ways, they might be better off running the biggest lunatic possible. Unless there is a war or the economy crashes, they are unlikely to beat Trump anyway. So, instead of running a moderate and having to listen to the left claim "we would have won if we had just nominated a real Progressive" give them what they want and then let the resulting landslide be a lesson in reality for them. That would set the Democratic Party up for 2024 better than nominating a moderate.

John Mcafee is not just a humorous crank. He seems to be a full fledged monster.
That post is from 2016. I've been telling people about that for years.
He just got sued over that, too, and that's why he's been in the news a lot lately.
Meanwhile, I guess he can't come back to the U.S. anymore either--and winning the LP nomination without being present at the convention seems unlikely.
Regardless, that was never the guy we wanted representing libertarianism to the masses.
But if OPM is shut down then how will my personal information be sold on the dark web to identity thieves? Think of all the economic activity that would be lost. What a tragedy!
Start working at home with Google! It's by-far the best job I've had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this - 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link, go to tech tab for work detail.\
