The Time for an All-Male Military Draft 'Has Passed,' Says Federal Judge: Reason Roundup
Plus: Silicon Valley is suspicious of media, Cory Booker calls for weed reform, and how to understand the "upper middle class"

"The time has passed" for an all-male military draft, a federal judge in Texas has ruled.
The Selective Service System assumes "that women are significantly more combat-averse than men" but presents no evidence to this effect, writes U.S. District Judge Gray Miller in his decision, issued late last Friday. He notes that "it may well be that only a small percentage of women meets the physical standards for combat positions. However, if a similarly small percentage of men is combat eligible, then men and women are similiarly situation for the purposes of the draft and…discrimination is unjustified."
The matter has made it all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court before, in 1981. In that case, justices called the sex-selective draft "fully justified," since women weren't allowed in combat roles back then. But now that women can join in combat too, the rationale for the draft no longer makes sense, the National Coalition for Men argued.
Judge Miller agrees. In fact, "the average woman could conceivably be better suited physically for some of today's combat positions than the average man, depending on which skills the position required. Combat roles no longer uniformly require sheer size or muscle."
In practical terms, the matter doesn't mean much, as the decision only provides for "declaratory relief" and not any action against the Military Selective Service Act. "Yes, to some extent this is symbolic," the National Coalition for Men's lawyer tells USA Today.
But it comes as some movement for reforming the draft is afoot. An "11-member commission is studying the future of the Selective Service System, including whether women should be included or whether there should continue to be draft registration at all," USA Today notes.

Upper-middle-class Americans don't follow top 1 percent or lower 90 percent in economic patterns. "Since 1980, the incomes of the very rich have grown faster than the economy," notes New York Times opinion columnist David Leonhardt. Meanwhile, "the upper middle class has kept pace with the economy, while the middle class and poor have fallen behind."
There's a debate among economists, social scientists, and advocates about whether the upper middle class, then, has more in common with its lower or higher wealth counterparts.
"Both sides have a point," writes Leonhardt. But "it's a mistake to divide the country into only two groups. To make grand pronouncements about the American economy, you need to talk about three groups."

didn't charlie rangel have a similar approach to reinstituting the draft? to address concerns about the racial disparity, i think?
However, if a similarly small percentage of men is combat eligible, then men and women are similiarly situation for the purposes of the draft and...discrimination is unjustified.
I blame video games.
Combat roles no longer uniformly require sheer size or muscle.
WRONG. The only thing that brings our enemies into submission is a Kung Fu Grip.
Why, no soldier has to carry gear in the field. That's just silly talk. I bet there are plenty of soldiers who'd love to carry the load for TWO soldiers...
Exactly damikesc.
I understand they even lowered the physical standards for men a bit, so the military was taking even weaker men than it was previously.
If they raised the standards for both men and women, more women would wash out and that is a good thing.
The military is for being prepared to fight not some social experiment to show that most women just wanna play warrior.
I think the point though is in non-combat roles (even when they are deployed to combat areas). Do you need to be able to pack 100 lbs if you are operating a drone from a carrier? Probably not.
Given the stats you choose, it is anywhere from .33 to 4 support personnel for each combat trooper. We are talking mechanics, cooks, nursing staff, etc. While they should all be able to defend themselves in a combat situation, the reality is that many don't need the physical strength to be successful.
If we really are getting to the point where infantry/etc are getting harder to find, then washing out people into support roles is a good way to make sure the tip of the spear remains strong.
Your point is valid that most military roles never require carrying 50% of your body weight in equipment...until it does. Nothing worse than drowning because a US Navy Chief Petty Officer cannot get his fat ass through a hatch.
The USA really needs to focus on being able to be ready for war. Ready for anything.
Finding that middle ground of getting fit young people, having experienced veterans as senior ranks, and smart recruits is the key.
Time and time again, the US military has triumphed over enemies with fit and professional military personnel, superior firepower, and technology.
Having more women just to have more women is not the answer.
Dude, you were in the Navy like 25 years before I was. Everyone can fit through the scuttle now.
In any case, you know if your fat fuck of an LCPO couldn't fit through the hatch some blueshirt would just gleefully stomp his ass back down and close it on him without a moment's hesitation.
That's good. They had physical fitness standards for most of us but old people (40+) were mostly exempted.
So we had some fat Chiefs.
Having better physical fitness standards is one of the good changes for the US Navy.
Shitty training (USS John McCain & Fitzgerald collisions) and not being to blow off steam like we used to, during liberty ports, are some of the bad things.
Additionally, rotations for infantry types is important too.
Weak people should not get all the easy jobs. Infantry types sometimes need a change of pace and there needs to be billets available for them to take it easy at a desk job.
The USMC has everyone as a rifleman first. Might be something good to that.
You know there are General Duty billets. I know you know this. And that those are different from MOS/Rating billets.
So an infantry MOS is never going to get a drone operator's billet - because they're different MOS'. Both are going to have equal shot at the GD billets. No one's going to put the infantryman into the drone operator's seat to 'give him a break'. Same as he's not going to take an S1's billet in the battalion HQ either.
I was a Navy guy, so we had shore duty billets and sea duty billets.
The rotation was shore duty after so many years of sea duty. Off the top of my head, I cannot think of single rate that was only shore duty. Even Seabees had to serve overseas as their "sea duty".
As an MM rate, On shore duty I did very different jobs that had nothing to do with ship board machinery and nuke spaces.
You're correct about an infantryman pulling an easy tour of duty as another technical position like drone operator. An Marine infantryman might pull a junior staff position or embassy position as shore duty.
Yeah, about that. See, that's more . . . guidelines. Than actual rules.
My point was that the Air Force does not have that kind of infantryman ethos like the USMC does.
Anywho.... a fit military is a ready and capable military.
So, let me see if I have this straight.
You want to be able to ensure that the people you enslave are *strong* slaves. No point in enslaving the women because they're weak - just stick with the men.
The military is enslavement now?
Get your train derailment fixed.
The draft is enslavement, yes.
I said military service, not drafted military service.
Carry one with the outrage.
Should we be worried about this giant iceberg breaking off Antartica?
We should be concerned about that c that apparently broke off Antarctica.
have we considered its just an anti-art project meant to make us think about what art really is?
I heard art belonged to the people.
If you're working on the ice near where it broke off, you need to check if your area is stable. You don't want to be on one of the next pieces to break off, especially if it's one of the smaller pieces that turns over as soon as it has enough room to do so.
Otherwise, this is far from the biggest iceberg this year or any other year.
That's disappointing. I learned in college a fetus is a clump of cells with no rights at any time before birth. Therefore abortion at 8.5 months is no different from abortion at 8.5 days.
#ProtectThirdTrimesterAbortionAccess
#(OtherwiseItsLiterallyTheHandmaidsTale)
Yes, New York just "passed a law allowing abortions after 24 weeks if the mother's health is at risk or there is an absence of fetal viability," Snopes notes. But "the law does not allow for unrestricted abortion up through the normal term of pregnancy."
Why is there a "but" between those statements?
I would ask if "health" includes "mental health", which tends to be the loophole big enough to drive dumptrucks through.
And citing Snopes is silly these days. Seriously, ENB.
I mean, I'm glad they aren't fact-checking SATIRE sites this time (Babylon Bee fact checks? They've done it MORE THAN ONCE, for fuck's sake)...but come the fuck on.
Fine... The DNC and Planned Parenthood both agree.
There... Happy now?
In reply to the accusation that it allows late-term abortion on broadly-termed mental health grounds, they quote a supporter of the law. In reality, who is going to second-guess a "medical professional" who enters a note on the patient's chart that they giving birth would impact their mental health? Under what circumstances would "prochoice" prosecutors or medical boards dare to "second-guess" such "professional judgment"?
Because there is a minor 'restriction' in that the doctor has to say "I think the mother's health is at risk.".
And who uses Snopes for a fact check, anyway?
It includes mental health and the impairment doesn't (AFAIK) have to be irreversible (like in the law they tried unsuccessfully to change in VA). Very broad.

Maybe he has a smoking wife. And if he lies to her, she puts her cigarettes out on his skin.
Is he saying droning brown people 40 hours a week requires patience and concentration, something (most) men are not famous for?
"the average woman could conceivably be better suited physically for some of today's combat positions than the average man, depending on which skills the position required. Combat roles no longer uniformly require sheer size or muscle."
Yeah, this is wrong. The job is fight, plus other stuff. Not other stuff, and maybe some fighting. The assumption has to be that everyone can fight, period, and make preparations accordingly.
There is no job in the military that women are better suited physcially for. There are certainly plenty of Remington Raider jobs that women can do as well, assuming the shit never really hits the fan wherever they are, but there are no jobs women can do better as a group. The judge is a fucking moron.
Sorry, "Remington Raider"?
It is an old school term for clerks and people at the rear. The reference is to "Remington typewriters".
Used to be called "rear echelon pukes" as I recall.
Handjob hangouts.
Ass kissers.
Persons Other than Grunts or POG, pogies, etc.
REMFs is the exact, technical term.
REMFs (Rear Echelon Mother ...) was the most common term in the 1970's. Now it's POGs (Personnel Other than Grunts). In earlier times, and I believe overlapping REMFs, it was Remington Raiders (referring to the typewriters that filled every office until the services changed from paper forms to computer data entry).
Wow, look at gender expert John. He has a whole spreadsheet at home with all the military jobs and ratings for the effectiveness of men and women at each job. He developed each rating personally through years of observation and assessment.
He has a whole spreadsheet at home with all the military jobs and ratings for the effectiveness of men and women at each job.
I dunno if John does have a spreadsheet, but it's not hard to find a military budget year-over-year and see that more and more roles are non-combat operations.
He probably does have a dictionary with which to rectify the terms 'military' and 'non-combat operations'.
All that aside, the right to vote means that even mouth-breathers like yourself get a say in justifying more spending on a military that engages in ever-increasing non-combat operations.
But he's not wrong...
Actually yes. I have over 20 years experience in the actual military. Not everyone is as stupid and gnerally ignorant as you are.
Chipper has no links or other supporting material.
His opinion rates higher than John's for....reasons.
The only female-dominant militaries in history are the Amazons and the Valkyries--in other words, two complete fantasies.
Except for all the jobs that are other stuff - with no fighting. Which are the majority of the jobs in the military.
That is true. But you know men would like some of those jobs too sometimes. Have an equal number of women and they will take all of those jobs.
The last baby boom came from the GI's coming home from the war. The next baby boom will be from women not wanting to get drafted during the next war.

Hack those results, find those slightly more than half and destroy their careers.
That result is shocking - in that environment, admitting to be a cis-gendered heterosexual on a survey would be mildly surprising , let alone espousing any political opinion that might be out of lockstep with the progressive culture.

Damn, Cory Booker. Why you gotta go saying intelligent shit like that?
He had me up until the part about "reinvest"
Yeah, ultimately he can't he can't be a Democrat without promising to spend other people's money.
Would he accept that the areas hardest hit by the drug war include all the taxpayers who have been forced to foot the bill?
Would he support clawbacks from police and drug warriors?
He'll accept and support almost anything depending on how it polls with the base, at this point.

Depends. Is it in a caravan, or is it a Muslim iceberg? Trumpistas may want to know!
It warms my heart knowing that Trump's Presidency is causing you stress and shortening your life.
Biggest story going right now is Trump delaying the tariff increases that were set to hit China on March 1st.
If Trump managed to negotiate something substantial about China's joint venture requirements (and, thus, forced technology transfers), this will have been less than a completely futile exercise. Some real intellectual property enforcement would also be nice.
I don't really care about the rest. I suppose that's another way of saying that if Trump fails to end China's join venture requirements, this really may have all been a completely futile exercise.
Yes, New York just "passed a law allowing abortions after 24 weeks if the mother's health is at risk or there is an absence of fetal viability...
I think we can all agree that any fetus with anything but blue eyes or who is gay is not viable.
+1 progressive eugenicist.
Will any Democrats address their vote for their FOSTA votes?
Will the answer have anything to do with how they treat their staff or what Halloween costumes they wore?
http://dailycaller.com/2019/02.....cut-track/
Boys pretending to be girls take one two at Connecticut indoor track high school state meet. People dismiss this but winning a state title in something is a big deal. It is something people remember for the rest of their lives. And those girls were robbed of that because of virtue signaling adults.
This is disgusting. And we feel so smug about other cultures but is even the most backward primitive culture any worse than this?
And read the ACTUAL girls' quotes. They train and say that the results are already known before the race even starts. Title IX is going to be killed by progressives, which is moderately ironic.
And the justification of the sub-par men who "won" was laughable. "Well, some of the kids' parents could be super rich to pay for super good training to make the girls run faster". Which, while true, still puts them at disadvantages against MALES, you moronic cunt.
One understated thing is that since Trump's election, there has been massive push back against PC culture. This led to push back of the SJWs and now they are pushing so hard that they are the one pushing their Nanny-State programs off the cliff.
Good riddance!
Did anybody else see Martina Navratilova getting excoriated by the SJWs for criticizing this kind of thing last week?
"To put the argument at its most basic: a man can decide to be female, take hormones if required by whatever sporting organization is concerned, win everything in sight and perhaps earn a small fortune, and then reverse his decision and go back to making babies if he so desires," she continued. "It's insane and it's cheating. I am happy to address a transgender woman in whatever form she prefers, but I would not be happy to compete against her. It would not be fair."
---Martina Navratilova
http://www.nbcnews.com/feature.....nt-n973626
Unlike most SJWs, Martina knows that even average males in any given sport are bigger, stronger, and faster than the top females. She competed in mixed doubles long enough to see those advantages on full display.
I think she can also see what this trend will do to women's sports.
If the women's championship in any given sport is no longer attainable for natural born women, then we're talking about fewer women participating in professional sports.
Women's sports depend on separation of men and women AND forced funds disbursement to subsidize women's sports.
I have never paid for a women's sporting event. They are boring.
I have paid for men's sporting events like hockey, football, and baseball.
Much of America does the same thing.
Certain sports are more interesting the way women play them.
Women's beach volleyball, big in Beach Cities/Los Angeles, is a whole lot more fun to watch--and not just because of what they're wearing. The relative lack of power makes the women's game more about finesse, strategy, getting your opponent off balance, etc.
The development of rackets made men's tennis much less entertaining to watch. It just became about power. Today, women's tennis is more entertaining, when you have to players that don't grunt. Between the grunting on the women's side and the lack of finese on the men's side, tennis became pretty much unwatchable at the turn of the century.

"Women's beach volleyball, big in Beach Cities/Los Angeles, is a whole lot more fun to watch--and not just because of what they're wearing. "
You're welcome to your preference but I don't agree and I played in college and briefly overseas. I am also a nationally certified referee, meaning I can and do ref matches up to contests between Olympic squads. I was a women's coach at my alma mater (setters coach) before I left Long Beach.
I don't hear your sentiment expressed much by my fellow players or coaches either. The women especially prefer men's matches.
All of the things you tout are actually negatives to people who look for high level volleyball. The women's game looks plodding and unathletic. Attend a beach match like the new AVP tour or an FIVB beach event, and the difference in attendance between mens matches and womens matches is stark. .
Most men watch women's volleyball for the titties and ass.
I also mentioned paying events.
If I am at a beach and women are playing volleyball, I might watch but would never pay.
If I was into volleyball as a sport, I might pay for men's volleyball for them being at the top of their sport.
To each their own anyway.
Fact is that women sports dont pull in revenue like men's sports do for a big reason.
If you're ever in LA when a beach volleyball tournament is happening in Hermosa or Manhattan Beach, I highly recommend it.
And then go home.
Alien,
I agree. People like women's beach volleyball because the women can be hot and they barely wear any clothing. It is pure cheescake.
I remember when in the late 90's the FIVB standardized the indoor uniforms and required the women to wear the tight compression shorts they have now. There was NO outcry from women, because they knew what side their bread was buttered on. It was a cynical appeal to sexuality, and everyone involved accepted it because it was in their interest to do so.
Isn't Cal State Long Beach like the Harvard of volleyball? I had a really good friend who was on the US Olympic team twice, and he seemed to be well connected to all the other Olympians in the area--a number of whom seem to have come from Long Beach. When you've been in the Beach Cities since the '80s and know a few surfers and Olympians, seems like there's two degrees of separation between everybody, max.
I guess we're getting into the psychology of sports spectators. I admit, I watch the women's volleyball and haven't paid as much attention to the men's game. For that matter, I don't find men's figure skating anywhere near as interesting as the women--but that's for different reasons.
I played hockey. When I watch my team play, it's like I'm playing vicariously through them. Fantasy football leverages how every guy thinks he should be his favorite team's general manager. When I watch a fight, I usually pick a guy and imagine what I'd be doing if I were him in that fight.
When I watch women play, I don't think of myself as being in competition with them. Emotionally, I'm not invested in any particular side--unless it's the Olympics when I'm always rooting for the USA. Point being, I can probably appreciate the strategy and the nuance better when I'm watching women play--because it's not like it's happening to me.
Like I said, maybe it's about what's going on in my head, but I maintain that every red-blooded, American man think himself the world's greatest driver, the world's greatest lover, and the world's greatest fighter, and they're all wrong--except for me.
I don't think I'm distracted by the skimpy. There's as much of that to see in the stands or on the Strand. Rather, because I don't instinctively think of women as competition, perhaps that lets me see them more clearly (the strategy, the finesse, etc.) than I would if I were watching the guys--thinking about getting my own ass kicked. Maybe that's the part that doesn't interest me.
For whatever reason, I don't imagine myself as a male figure skater either.
The top women's tennis player in the world makes tens of milions of dollars. The number 150 man is lucky to make a middle class living. Yet, the number 150 rated man could wipe the court with any woman in the world. It is just a matter of time before some middling male professional decides he is really a woman and destroys women's tennis.
I suspect that the big pro-sports organizations won't let it get that far as it would destroy women's competition. But we shall see.
You would think so, but never underestimate the power of the cry bullies.
And that goes for all the other single women's sports, too.
If a man taking hormones can hit a golf ball a 80 yards further down the fairway then the natural born female competition, then what?
What about Olympic events like skiing? The first guy to take the hormones will get a ton of positive attention for being brave and new--and get Nike endorsement contract. Limitless!
What happens in MMA? You think Ronda Rousey getting her ass kicked when women athletes started pouring into MMA, what happens when the men decide they're sick of fighting to be the 20th ranked guy, when they could be the controversial champion of the women's division like Gorgeous George?
What happens when third tier guys realize they could have a free ride to Stanford and edge out natural born women for sports scholarships?
This will make the argument for women's sport extremely complicated.
It will destroy women's sports. The radical lesbians who are fighting this bullshit are right. It is terrible for women. They only people who support it are gay men like Shackford, who just don't give a shit about the mysogyny of it and virtue signallying Progs whill say or do anything to look tolerant.
I just never understood why men and women cannot embrace our differences and similarities and be fine with them.
Anyone who says a guy like Mike Tyson and the strongest woman boxer in the World are 'equal' are insane. Mike Tyson in his hayday would have been able to kill a woman with one punch. I have never heard of a woman being able to kill a man with one hit.
Just throwing this out there, but it may be because a certain variety of people takes words to be true and literal without nuance, so "equal" is believed to mean exactly that in all cases.
Its how our American English works. We have agreed upon definitions to understand each other.
In America, we use a bunch of slang because its cool to not use words already in the dictionary.
Equal means this:
e?qual
/??kw?l/
adjective
1. being the same in quantity, size, degree, or value.
2. having the ability or resources to meet (a challenge).
Many women could easily kill a man with one punch if they punched him in the throat
No woman would do that. They prefer much slower ways to kill a man.
I just never understood why men and women cannot embrace our differences and similarities and be fine with them.
I think that most people do. At least if you look at how people behave and not just what they say.
It has already happened. Fallon Fox was a man who was "trans" and fought women. He lost once. He also severely injured some women he fought. UFC harshly punished male fighters who called him sick for wanting to beat up women so badly. So, he COULD lose to a woman (he was not very good, legitimately) but he had a massive advantage.
It's already happened in MMA. The biological woman got her *skull fractured* by the, ah, non-biological woman.
And John's comment is factually correct.
Serena and Venus Williams, in 1998, after boasting they could beat any man ranked outside of the top 200. So, during the Australian Open, they played the 203rd ranked man in the world. After finishing a round of golf and 2 shandies, Braacht, the man, beat Serena 6-1 after leading 5-0 and THEN beat Venus 6-2.
Hell, fine months before he "lost" to Billie Jean King, Bobby Riggs beat the #1 women's player in the world (for her seventh straight year) 6-2, 6-1. It's a big reason why there is heavy suspicion that he threw his match against King.
The US Women's National Soccer Team lost to a Dallas, TX U-15 boys team 5-2. And our women's team is amongst the best in the world. Women's national hockey teams have similar problems.
Remember Bobby Riggs and BJK? She was, by far, the top women's professional tennis player at the time at 29 years old. Bobby was 55 years old FFS. He was a top player. In the 1940s! He retired 1951. Their Battle of the Sexes was in 1973.
And he had beaten Margaret court a few months before. Court was a better player than King. It was revealed after Riggs' death that he confessed to one of his kids on his death bed that he threw the match in a deal with gamblers.
Basically. He played poorly and throwing a match in tennis isnt that hard. He was always a finesse player so age would have not ravaged that like his power game. The Court drubbing is why I buy the thrown match theory,
I remember watching those matches. Bobby Riggs was over the hill. He could hit as hard as Chris Everts and King, and put the ball exactly where he wanted it, but played like he had no wind and couldn't run.
He beat Everts with precision and psychology. He knocked the ball to just inside bounds at the farthest corner, and when she just barely reached the ball, she sent it straight back to him 90% of the time. He barely had to move to make most of his returns, and would let any that were more than three steps away go. So by the end of the match, Everts was exhausted and playing poorly, and unless he'd really let himself go, he shouldn't have even been breathing hard.
Billie Jean King was ranked just below Everts, but she had the advantage of watching the Everts-Riggs match. Probably she watched the tape over and over. She came to the match prepared for Riggs's tactics, and did not let him rattle her. And like him, she knew when to lose the point rather than desperately running across the court and barely getting the racket on the ball. But she could take a few more steps than Riggs without wearing herself out or losing her ability to choose where her returns went, and that was enough to win easily.
""I think she can also see what this trend will do to women's sports."'
She remembers what the East Germans were doing in the Olympics. The people calling out Navratilova don't even know about East Germany.
To be fair, some juco college basketball player claiming to be a woman to play in the WNBA would be hilarious. Hell, Brittany Griner might as well be Juwanna Mann, her voice is deeper than John Wayne's.
California just passed a law requiring all corporate boards to have a woman on it. I'm waiting for the old rich guy in a suit to claim he's a woman with a straight face and dare them to make their next move.
+10
Males make better girl athletes than females. Who could have predicted this?
but is even the most backward primitive culture any worse than this?
Yes, I think there are a lot worse things than this. It's pretty fucking insane, though. The only reason separate women's sports exist is because men are better at pretty much every athletic activity. It's because of physical reality, because women want to and should be able to compete and have a chance of winning, not some idea of acceptance and social justice.
There might be things that are morally worse but I challange you to come up with anything more seperated from reality as this.
Separation from reality is a luxury that only prosperous cultures have. Primitive cultures are pretty well forced to work with actual reality, even if their interpretations of it might seem a little odd.
The cognitive dissonance between the original intent of Title IX as it applies to sports and the transgender dogma is incredible. It is funny to watch it unfold if were not hurting real people.
Women scholarships are involved among other real world consequences for this Title IX bullshit.
Its like weakening our military just to brag about how many underqualified women they can pack into submarines.
brag about how many underqualified women they can pack into submarines.
Get out of my head LC. I had this very dream just last night.
Oh, and the answer is 869.
What's long, hard, and full of semen?
NOT a feminist's version of an attack submarine.
I have a particular animosity toward Title IX because it crippled many men's sports.
They siphon off revenue from men's sports to give to women's sports.
Plus, there is a fundamental change in America to give every participant a trophy instead of celebrating real physical fitness talent.
Why would you try hard when people who don't excel get credit too?
From the DC article: "Yearwood acknowledged being stronger than female runners to the AP, but compared it to advantages other athletes might have from perfecting their form or doing extra training sessions."
These other girls just need to learn to regulate hormones differently and sprout a Y-chromosome. What are you, a science denier?
This is about as legitimate a comment from the tranny as an NFL washout demanding to be allowed to try out for high school football. Sure, they may be bigger --- but those kids have better techniques...
The only fair and equal answer is to eliminate all sexually bigoted sport designations and only have one group of all individuals wanting to compete. No "mens" or "womans" teams, just a team. Fair and equal. No more testing for various hormonal or genetic traits, just show up and compete. This will also address the political issue of individuals who wonder about what they are. No stigma, just straight up competition.
May the better/best competitor win, and may the odds always be in your favor.
I would pay money to see that.
Its like all the NASCAR guys smashing Dana Kirkpatrick into the wall.
Its entertaining.
You're going to get kicked out of the Georgia Republican Redneck Society if you keep missing names of NASCAR drivers. It's Danica Patrick.
I'll bet you wouldn't have missed it if we were talking about Dick Trickle.
I dont watch NASCAR, so there you go.
But Jobn, only the proles care about something so d?class? as high school sports and who cars what they think.
Seriously though, I love high school hoops and the local girls and boys teams both play on the same night (the girls before the boys), so I am just waiting for the tranny movement to destroy the girls game.
My latest, for @broadly.
Every Democratic 2020 candidate in Congress voted for a law that decimated my community - will any step up to answer for it?

Will you cast a vote for Donald Trump. (NOTE: Not voting for the Democrat nominee counts as a vote for Donald Trump.)
Reading the tea leaves on the Mueller probe . . .
The bullet points of Mueller's report are so important to so many powerful people (from the Speaker to the Democrat primary candidates), that I expect they're already well known to the people the matter.
With Mueller's report said to be delivered to the AG later this week, I expected those powerful people in the know to either go big and make headlines by piling on Trump over the weekend calling for his impeachment or, if it's all a big nothing-burger, to go more or less silent so they don't make a fool of themselves.
Judging by that windsock, my bet's on "nothing-burger".
You know there is nothing there. These people leak everything. If they had anything, we would have heard about it a long time ago.
John is 100% correct.
Lefties have been leaking anything about Trump to see if it sticks. They have no discipline to wait because they cannot afford to wait. Almost every week, Trump does something to set back Socialism in the USA by years.
You don't expect the House to spend the next two years picking fly shit out of pepper? They will drag Mueller and everyone else involved before hearing after hearing. Maybe the Senate needs to reply by RICOing the Clinton Foundation?
Should we be worried about this giant iceberg breaking off Antartica?
At least it wasn't a giant romaine. Those have E. coli.
More like E. cold-i. Am I right, people?
Um... no. No, you're not right.
I like Elizabeth Warren, but she might be making a mistake here.
Elizabeth Warren Says She'll Reject Big Money Fundraising Events
If Warren becomes the nominee, billionaires like the Koch Brothers will obviously prefer her to Drumpf, if only because of immigration. She might regret this pledge.
You need to take your shtick to HuffPo, fake trans.
With Robert Kraft getting busted in a case that involes actual honest-to-god human trafficking, I don't think your tweet about the impact of FOSTA on the sex worker community is going to get a lot of traction.
Donald Sterling had to sell his team because he was tapped telling his girlfriend to stop dating black guys. He said this in a private conversation not even in public. If it is the case that Kraft was patronizing what amounts to a slavery operation, how is not a hundred times worse and how can the media which gleefully ran Sterling out of the NBA not demand Kraft be run out of the NFL?
He actually only wanted her to stop posting on Instagram. Facebook was okay. Just not Instagram.
She could bang "them"....
In the recording from September 2013, a man confirmed to be Sterling was irritated over a photo Stiviano had posted on Instagram, in which she posed with Basketball Hall of Fame player Magic Johnson. Sterling told Stiviano: "It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you're associating with black people", and, "You can sleep with [black people]. You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want", but "the little I ask you is ... not to bring them to my games" -wikipedia
The sports punditry world hated Sterling already for other reasons. That issue was just useful for the coup de grace. I don't think Kraft is despised like that.
True. Sterling was a shitty owner --- but his loss of his team will always bug me. Nobody should be punished over an illegally recorded conversation.
It's not enough to just legalize marijuana at the federal level?we should also expunge records of those who have served their time, and reinvest in communities hardest hit by the failed War on Drugs?which has really been a war on people.
? Cory Booker (@CoryBooker) February 23, 2019
No time like the present, Senator.
I love the "SOMEBODY should do SOMETHING!" line from somebody who, in fact, could do something.
^THIS. WTF Booker? Do it.
What is the Senator trying to hide?
T-Bone loved the pot.
And Booker's cock.
But mainly the pot.
Barring the question whether there should be a draft, if we have one should be on purely utilitarian means to get the military the kind of personnel it thinks it needs. Judge Miller is far beyond his expertise on what sort of draftee the military should have to sort through to get to what they want. That is time and resources we likely cannot afford to waste if we are in such an emergency that a draft is required.
The cynical anti-feminist roots of efforts like these make it hard for me to applaud what they are trying to do. Not that I agree with third-wave feminists on... well, anything... but this *hah, hah, see how they like this!" approach just ends up further entrenching the most destructive aspect of modern feminism - the idea that there is no difference in any way between men and women.
From a practical standpoint, not drafting women makes sense logistically due to the one single, biggest difference between the sexes - women get pregnant. The only way to enforce this against draft dodgers would be forced abortions or punishing women in the military (or who are drafted) who get pregnant and then you get a whole other can of worms.
Another scheme is to force the military to accept women and then women get pregnant in the military.
The military picks up the tab...POOF... free medical.
Same type of scheme with the transtesticals...POOF...free medical.
Pregnancies and live births among female service members, active component, U.S. Armed Forces, 2012? 2016
Women in the USMC seem to be the only group taking military service seriously instead of a taxpayer funded baby-factory.
That's not really a scam, just a natural result of allowing women to have careers in the military. The birth rate for military vs. non-military isn't that different (64.9 vs. 60.2), especially if you recognize that they aren't counting exactly the same age range. The stats you link to state that the percentage of live births is highest among women who are married, in non-combat roles, and 30-34 years old - all of which suggests career military. The stats do not seem to support the idea that career military women (or those doing a stint for college) are any more or less serious than their male counterparts.
I have no issues with women serving in the military. I think the draft idea is stupid primarily because women can't be held to the same level of enforced service as men without draconian control over fertility.
I guess I didn't clarify enough.
I knew a surprising number of women who wanted to avoid 6 month ship deployments so they got pregnant.
I am against the draft anyway. Its better to have people serve that want to serve. After Pearl Harbor nearly every adult male signed up to serve. The one's that tried to get out of serving or had medical issues felt public pressure.
Besides, voluntary sign ups allow for people to pick roles that better suit their desires.
Well, seems like the military has already been forced to accept women. I really have no idea if that's good, bad or neutral. But it's not as if changing the draft law is going to make any difference on the sex breakdown of the actual military today.
Just get rid of the draft. Violates the 13th amendment anyway. If there is an actual war that needs to be fought, people will sign up and a draft can be put together if necessary.
http://www.politico.com/magazi.....ump-225192
hen President Donald Trump tweeted, on January 20, that he had reached 50 percent approval among Hispanic-Americans, most fair-minded observers reacted with skepticism, if not outright disbelief. Trump was, after all, still the same man who announced his candidacy by accusing Mexico of sending "rapists" across the border, the same man who ordered refugee children separated from their parents, the same man who has made building a wall to shut out migrants the focal point of his presidency. Yet here he was, crowing characteristic bravado: "Wow, just heard that my poll numbers with Hispanics has gone up 19%, to 50%. That is because they know the Border issue better than anyone, and they want Security, which can only be gotten with a Wall."
So, when even the pollsters responsible for the data Trump was touting?Marist Institute for Public Opinion, for NPR and "PBS NewsHour"?cautioned of the high margin of error for that subset, and a possible over-sampling of Republicans, many on the left promptly dismissed it as an anomaly.
Hispanics are the ones most adversily affected by illegal immigration.
They were sceptical because the Democrats are typically oversampled.
At least 40% of Hispanics want border controls and object to illegal immigration. When the Republicans under Bush and McCain ran on open borders they gave those Hispanics no reason to vote for them. Why vote for Republicans when you can get open borders already from Democrats. Meanwhile, the Hispanics who support open borders tend to be very liberal and won't vote Republican anyway So, all going in on open borders did was deprive the Hispanics who were open to voting Republican of the primary reason they would do so while gaining zero votes from those who support open borders. It is no surprise that Trump did better among Hispanics than Romney did and will almost certainly do even better still in 2020.
Even I'm skeptical.
I'd point out that Cubans and Puerto Ricans may identify "Hispanic" and yet both have trended Republican for a long time, or so I've read in the past.
I'd also point out that third and fourth generation Hispanics may identify as "Hispanic", but they're no more offended by talk about illegal immigration than fourth generation Irish and Italians.
I suspect a lot of blue collar Mexican-Americans like Trump for the same reason that other blue collar people like Trump. The last two years have been great for them, and they may see questions about immigration as a proxy for support for Trump.
Among first and second generation immigrants from Mexico and Central America, I think Trump's name is "mud".
You mean Mexicans have jobs and lives and might vote on issues other than open borders? Has anyone told Old Mexican this?
I am not skeptical at all. Having spent a good part of my life in Central Texas, I found the Mexicans who had been here for generations to often to be radical about borders. Also, the fact that illegal immigration is now coming from Central America not Mexico makes Mexicans even less disposed to support illegal immigration.
I didn't say it wasn't possible or that it wasn't true.
Just color me skeptical.
It doesn't have to be entirely trup for it to be very bad news for the Democrats. If Trump gets even 40% of the Hispanic vote in 2020, which is not unreasonable given that he got 32% in 2016, the Democrats' path to the White House becomes nearly impossible.
That and add in more and more Black Americans are leaving the Democratic Party. I don't think its fully clear if they are voting GOP, Libertarian, or what, but they are not voting straight Democrat.
If the old adage is true that Americans become more conservative as they get older, then the Democratic Party needs a lot of new blood every year. The conservative vote, automatically gets new voters at some point as they age.
Hispanics that are Americans that came here legally, followed the rules.
Europeans that are Americans who came thru Ellis Island, followed the rules.
Its not racist to want immigrants to follow Americans rules for Naturalization.
But "it's a mistake to divide the country into only two groups. To make grand pronouncements about the American economy, you need to talk about three groups."
You don't necessarily need a choice of three economic classes when children are hungry in this country.
Children in this country are fat!
So switching genders the day before won't fly... damnit.
"A strong law is needed "to rid our state of the underground economy, which goes hand in hand with misclassification," she added. "Workers need access to a minimum wage and overtime, to sick leave and paid family leave, to unemployment insurance and workers' comp, to Social Security when they retire.""
Please. They only thing they care about is getting their cut. The reason Sacramento goes after contractor classification is because they want their employer tax.
The "underground" economy is a pretty big part of the economy. Too many people not being shaken down.
There is a limit to the value of having the security of doing something legally. Most people would rather not risk going to jail or dealing with someont that they have no recourse other than violence against if they don't have to. But, if you raise the price of doing something legally high enough, people will be willing to take the risk to avoid the taxes and you end up with what amounts to prohibition by taxation. In short, every golden goose can be killed. Politicians are so stupid and greedy they don't realize that.
I didn't watch; was Lee's the designated "Trump is a big poopyhead!" speech or was he just one of many?
He had trouble, as he often does, of putting subject to predicate to object without bumbling and stumbling - just like Obama.
Apparently Maher said something stupid. Ah-gain.
They should do a show. 'Stupid Smug Shit Maher Said Again'.
He said Blue states have Wolfgang Puck and red states have chef boyarde. That joke fails on so many levels. First, it is not even good snobbery. No real foodie would list Puck as a great chef. They guy runs airport restaurants for God's sake. And all real foodies know that the New York food scene is passe and the real action in places like Nashville and New Orleans and such.
Then of course there is the fact that it is totally at odds with reality. People flee blue states to go live in red states by the millions every year.
I was disappointed in the restaurants in Nashville to be honest.
with
I have never been there. I am generally disapointed by the hipster foodie praised restaurants. So it doesn't suprise me. The DC food scene sucks ass as far as I am concerned. Yet, DC is a big deal to foodies. I have been to Rose's Luxury, which everyone praises out the ass, and Tail Up Goat, another one that got a Michilin Star for God's sake and they are total medicroties both of them. Neither of them have any soul or any real identity. It is just over thought hipster fusion bullshit that manages to be just boring. Everyting is about "breaking the rules" and being innovative, But it ends up just being an excuse to not know the rules and sell mediocre food as something different.
Like that molecular nonsense.
I agree.
I've been to Michelin star restaurants including in Paris. Nothing memorable.
To think Chefs kill themselves over a stupid star/point system.
I love really fine dinning. There is a place in Montreal called the Bonapart in the old city that is fabulous. But, it doesn't pretend to be anything other than old school French awesomeness. It doesn't get cute. Everything they make is wonderful and done to an amazing standard. You really have to appreciate that.
Places like Tail Up Goat don't do that. They can't meet such a high standard. So what should be called lousy Greek or Italian food becomes "Mediterranean Fusion". You end up with shit like this, which is a real example from their menu
cavatelli, pork + hazelnut ragu, burnt orange, sherry breadcrumbs
No Italian would eat hazelnuts in a ragu. That is not fusion. It is poorly executed Italian you beardo loser.
Couldn't agree more.
Yes, Montreal has a lot of fantastic unpretentious French food.
The city has gotten better with the Italian.
Inside tip: We also don't like chicken with pasta.
Mediterranean-California fusion. I'm sure it exists.
I hope the world ends in 12 years just for that.
The very high end of any kind of luxury good is always like that. Got to think of ways to get people to pay the ridiculous prices that they are willing to pay to signal their status. It's a lot like art or fashion that way. And I think that's fine. A lot is just weird and complicated for its own sake, but some people want to pay for that. Some is actually really good.
Most chefs just want to have a successful restaurant.
I had a great southern meal in the Outer Banks a few years ago. That we enjoyed because it was authentic.
I particularly dislike 'nouveau Italian' hipsters seem to like.
Yeh, Nashville was just trying too hard. Plus these places need to learn about the /concept value of memorable service.
The owner of the the southern place sat and talked to us after finding out we were from Montreal. Turns out he had been many times and loves hockey.
Atlanta has some awesome food places. Georgia in general has a wide variety of food choices since we have almost every ethnic group in the area. Japanese, Asian, Caribbean, European, African, Hispanic, and Canadian 🙂 foods.
Kevin Rathbun's chophouse in ATL has some of the best steak that I have ever had. Beats Texas, Chicago, and Kansas City.
Another interesting thing is that Georgia does not really have a BBQ flavor, like Memphis flavor or Texas flavor, so we end up with a bunch of delicious varieties.
I agree. Atlanta has some great food. And yeah the barbeque there sucks.
+Chambodia
If you want great food it's hard to beat New Orleans. The town is miserable on many levels but damn they have some tasty noms.
LOL yeah, DC is the world capital of overpriced garbage trying to pass as the best shit in the world.
But I found plenty of good food in Nashville, but that was also 12 years ago. Wow. Time flies.
Historically ignorant, to put it mildly. Chef Boyardee was Chef Boiardi, a chef who suffered calum ny for daring to 'go popular.'
They difference between Puck and Boiardi is solely one of time.
So like when Dylan went electric.
Hey man, my mother used to make most things from scratch but when we came back home for lunch from school she wasn't against popping open one of those Boyardee cans. And we enjoyed it while watching The Flintstones. It's worth keeping pretentiousness in check when it comes to food.
Also, Boiardi got his start in NYC.
The time for the draft was "NEVER". The day Lincoln chose to enslave some americans to fight other americans who enslaved different americans was a travesty that should never be forgotton.
If Lincoln hadn't, America would be at least two separate countries today. But maybe that wouldn't be a bad thing?
You can't know that.
The Selective Service System assumes "that women are significantly more combat-averse than men" but presents no evidence to this effect
"Sucking chest wounds are *icky*!"
All though I'm against conscription, I will not be able to stop the chicks from perhaps getting drafted and getting orders from our beloved DI.

I didn't watch the Oscars but somebody told me that they had to fire the original presenter because SJWs, and then they couldn't find another one who could pass SJW muster--so they went without a presenter this time?
How bad does it have to get before they wake up?
"How bad does it have to get before they wake up?"
They're already WOKE!!
The Hollywood movie guild are some of the least interesting people on the face of the earth, and I feel sorry for anyone who would waste even ten minutes of their life paying any attention whatsoever to them.
If you want to know how irrelevent the Oscars are, consider this; other than Return of the King, the Departed and Argo, name one best picture winner since the turn of the century that is ever on cable. I can't think of a single one. Best Picture winners were not always the best movies but they were almost always relevent movies that were liked and had lasting popularity with the public. No more. Now the Best Picture Winner is forget by the Tuesday after it wins. Seriously, when was the last time anyone actually watched Slumdog Millionaire or Crash or 12 Years as a Slave? I am not sure anyone anywhere actually watached The Shape of Water start to finish. If someone did, I have never met them or at least anyone who would admit to it.
Carpenters, strippers, dog walkers, and may other California workers are struggling to deal with the state's new rules on independent contracting.
They are not legal workers, they are business owners.
What the socialists hate about independent contractors is the 'independent' part. And as individuals, they are a species the socialists must exterminate.
^This . Exactly.
Who is killing race relations in modern America? The scummy, lying vermin in the JournoList with their hoaxes and fake stories:
This one is a must-read. Some of the assholes here at Reason fell hard for this bullshit too, if you'll recall!
Trayvon Martin isn't dead??
Yes, he is dead. He was killed after attacking and trying to murder someone. Sucks when your victim has a gun. Zimmerman didn't get the memo that it was his duty to die for the sin of being a "white Hispanic".
Not even Zimmerman alleged anything like this, you horrible person. And only you despicable assholes could turn a guy acquitted for killing a kid into victimhood.
Zimmerman claimed he was in fear of his life. If he hadn't, he woudl never have been aquitted. You are a horrible human being Tony who lies about virtually everything.
I still think Zimmerman was kind of an idiot and overzealous. But his acquittal was appropriate. "Reasonable doubt" means what it says.
What is JournoList?
This whole draft thing has be vexed. In 8th grade civics we did a mock Congress, and I was speaker of the House. We each introduced our own legislation, and were actually graded on how far it got through the process.
My legislation was expanding the draft to include women. I dunno, I had some kind of libertarian-esque gender grievance thing going on at the time.
But now it's actually a thing. I deserved a better grade.
